i've listened to the hadestown soundtrack so much over the past month and still it took me ages to realise that when orpheus is referred to as a 'poor boy' it's because he is. literally dirt poor. and that hermes is not calling him a poor little meow meow.

I have such mixed opinions on hermie- like I like him but people like him SO MUCH that I feel like I’m missing something and then it makes me take two cautious steps back. he'd always be bound to sirius, in a way or another. regulus was leo's, while leo was sirius'. the lion, a symbol of bravery that sirius wore with pride, and regulus wore it like a chain around his neck, tucked under his shirt, cold against his skin, a reminder that it's there, whether he can see it or not.

toujours pur was what they lived by. toujours pur, and ne jamais tomber amoureux; love doesn't exist, only upholding the name does. they'd never do anything out of love. if they would decide to marry someone, they'd be chained forever, loveless and alone, despite having someone to fall asleep next to.
