Iceland

View of Keflavik airport inside
A few years ago, before COVID-19, me and my family had a day layover in Iceland when we were traveling to visit family in Europe. We used this opportunity to explore the small country a little bit. This wasn’t my first time in the country as we used the same flying route last year, but I always found Iceland to be a fascinating place to visit because its landscape was just so unique.
Tumblr media
Map of the Golden Ring Road in Iceland
That year, me and my parents decided to explore the Golden Ring Road which covered 4 main unique natural wonders in Iceland caused by the geothermal activity on the Island. All in all, this road was one of my most favorite places to visit in the world because it showed the weird and powerful the nature in Iceland which was unlike any other place I visited. Otherwise, we visited the following 4 places on the Golden Ring road.
Tumblr media
Thingvellir National Park
When I think of national parks, I always think of big areas full of forests and maybe mountains, maybe because I visited so many in Canada, but Thingvellir National Park is a relatively big area, but there were no trees, just fields, some bushes and rivers. The main part of the national park is a valley of tall formations of rocks in a weird mozaïk kind of way. There was more you could explore of the national park such as hiking trails through hills and crystal clear rivers. The place itself was quite impressive and felt like I had reached some kind of a different world because it was so unusual and this would be a theme for all the landmarks on the Golden Ring Road. After exploring the national park for a short bit, me and my family continued to check out the Geysers.
Tumblr media
Geyser Geothermal area
This was probably my favorite place to visit on this ring road because it was fascinating to look at how the water from these small pools called geysers just explode up to 30 meters above the ground and all from natural phenomena. Me and my family, once we got there, explored several different geysers, the big geyser, the original geyser, the little geyser among others. What I loved most about this place was when I experienced the first geyser eruption I saw from the original geyser. I waited a little bit until it would erupt and then unexpectedly it made this loud popping sound and water flew at least 20 meters high. It was a fantastic thing to watch, especially all the water becoming a puffy white cloud and feeling the warmth from it knowing that it’s from a heat source underground. I’ll be honest, the thing that is most sad about this place is the big geyser. It used to erupt very frequently, but, during the last few decades, it only erupted a handful of times due to tourists throwing rocks into the pool itself. I advise you to not do that if you visit that place because it would be nice if it's kept preserved since when it erupts, the water flies more than 50 meters in height, the tallest geyser eruption in the world. When we were done exploring the geysers, it was hard to leave because it was so lovely being there, but he continued forward to the Gullfoss waterfall.
Tumblr media
Gullfoss waterfalls
The growling noise was the first thing I heard when we approached the waterfalls. I could hear the power within the moving water and didn’t think much of it when we approached, but once we got out of the car and I looked at the falls, I was kind of in shock.  The amount of water moving through the waterfall was powerful and the only similar waterfalls I ever saw were the ones in Niagara Falls all though the latter is bigger. The heavy streams of water vaporizing while hitting the rocks was just mesmerizing to look at for the next hour. Once we were ready to leave the falls, I just had to take one final look before going to the destination where we would wrap up our Golden Ring Road trip.
Tumblr media
Kerið lake
We were running low on time because we had to be at the airport soon so we made a quick stop at Kerið (pronounced Kerith or Kerid lake). We hiked out the parking lot and we looked over at the lake inside its volcanic crater. It was impressive, but it wasn’t as interesting as the other destinations. What I liked most about it was its color being vivid aquamarine unlike any other water source I’ve seen during my stay in Iceland, but I think it wasn’t worth more than 10 minutes of my time.
After we visited Kerið lake, we went back to the airport, returned our rented car and we passed through security to wait in the terminal for our flight. We boarded our flight to mainland Europe in a few hours.

View of Keflavik airport from the outside
Before I wrap this blog up, I have to add that the Keflavik airport really looks out of place. What I mean by that is it’s a huge building, and runway, in the middle of nowhere and only a few kilometers before the next town.
I have to say that Iceland is a completely different world and I would love to return to the country to drive the complete circle around the island. I recommend you, my dear readers, to take the time to visit the country if you have the chance. It's really one of those places where you realize that our Earth takes many shapes.
Stay tuned for my next blog about my most recent trip!

Season of Storms: Interlude X
Ha, even the book admits that Coral didn’t know Geralt at all, although it’s in a completely different context than what I was talking about in the last chapter. Doesn’t make it any less true, though.
We also see the final vindictive things Coral does. She doesn’t want to admit that she got dumped by Geralt, so she uses Mozaïk and her also short-lived relationship with Geralt as a proxy. That way she thought she could get both the positive outcome of having had relationship with Geralt, and the positive outcome of not having had a relationship with him, when talking to Yennefer.
Unfortunately the “positive” side of someone having had a relationship with Geralt was trying to make Yennefer jealous, and… their relationship has never been exactly monogamous when they weren’t actively together, I think we’re at the point of the timeline where Yennefer is used to Geralt getting new girlfriends from time to time.
And I don’t even think she managed to fool Yennefer into thinking that she’s a good friend who doesn’t steal the boyfriends of others. And I think that’s because she was so clearly jealous of Mozaïk that she must have at least tried to get on with Geralt.

Coming here from gayregis just now bc I took break from tumblr but I'm so glad you have whole new blog (blogs?) I can now binge read at 2am 😳 kudos for still producing content, ahhh I'm glad you keep sharing your thoughts and art!!!
In preparation before I read Season of Storms (last book left in my 2nd reread): is there anything positive you can say ab this book, maybe any characters or plot points you enjoyed? Most people focus on the worst apects and I too have some very negative memories attached but I'm hoping there is something good I can find/wait for 😥
aahhh so glad you could make it!
the only things i liked about season of storms were:
the worldbuilding around cidaris / kerack. previously this part of the world was mentioned/explored a little in a little sacrifice, but not really expanded upon.
dandelion (descriptions, dialogue, interactions with geralt). he's funny and bright as always and it feels like not much changed with his character from the short stories.
i found mozaïk interesting as a character but couldn't really gauge her since she doesn't get that much elaboration
i disliked the plot with sorel degerlund, but i found the exploration of the practice of goetia interesting, if extremely dark!
the wedding chapter + the murder of belohun and usurping of the throne (especially because i'm pretty sure that ildiko's necklace is an inversion of the medea myth; instead of murdering the young girl betrothed to an older king however, it murders the older king :))
the aguara was mildly interesting but not very much so because she only gets interesting scenes at the very end
the last chapter where geralt and dandelion are in the inn eating kasha with pork. the last lines they share: "time to ride, dandelion." "oh yes? where to?" "isn't it all the same?" "yes, by and large. let's go."
nimue's journey and epilogue. it was nice to see a connection between the small village girl we see in baptism of fire and the sorceress we see in lady of the lake.

“Mozaïk!”
“Yes, madam.”
“We’re going to have a guest. Everything is to be suitably prepared and elegant. But first bring me a gown.”
“The tea rose? Or the aquamarine?”
“The white one. He dresses in black, we’ll treat him to yin and yang. And sandals, select something matching, make sure they have at least four-inch heels. I can’t let him look down on me too much.”
“Madam … That white gown …”
“Yes?”
“It’s, well …”
“Modest? Without any ornamentation or furbelows? Oh, Mozaïk, Mozaïk. Will you ever learn?”
god how much do i fucking love that coral knows EXACTLY how to play geralt
she’s such a masterful manipulator!!! they haven’t even MET yet and she’s done enough research and understands him well enough to know exactly what to do to play him like a fucking fiddle

Season of Storms: Chapter 19
“Geralt! Let’s get out of here! More waves are coming!”
Wow, Coral really doesn’t know Geralt. But She’s the kind of person who will ignore other people in danger, while running away into safety by herself. I doubt it even crossed her mind to help anyone else, before she left. And on top of that, she left Geralt and Mozaïk to fend for themselves, showing us that she never really cared about either of them that much.
Meanwhile, Mozaïk was the one who not only stayed and helped, also jumped into the water to save people, driving in that all this time she was the better person. And I mean… We have seen Coral be abusive towards Mozaïk, and we haven’t seen Mozaïk be abusive towards anyone, so it makes perfect sense.
Geralt also lost yet another sword. I’m starting to think that the swords are symbolic of something. I mean, Geralt did get this sword from someone who he pinged as Coral’s ex, in the chapter where he decided to stop pursuing her, and now he lost it in the chapter where they had their final, irrevocable break-up. And Yennefer, his great love, was the one who got him his normal swords back.
But the other sword, the one he broke, he got from Dandelion in an interlude where nothing else happened, except Dandelion getting swindled, and the sword didn’t break in a chapter that had anything to do with swindling or Dandelion.
I don’t know, it might just be that at this point of his life, Geralt needed these particular swords.
