Yosemite National Park, CA (No. 2)
Yosemite National Park is a national park in California. It is bordered on the southeast by Sierra National Forest and on the northwest by Stanislaus National Forest. The park is managed by the National Park Service and covers 759,620 acres (1,187 sq mi; 3,074 km2) in four counties – centered in Tuolumne and Mariposa, extending north and east to Mono and south to Madera. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, giant sequoia groves, lakes, mountains, meadows, glaciers, and biological diversity. Almost 95 percent of the park is designated wilderness. Yosemite is one of the largest and least fragmented habitat blocks in the Sierra Nevada.
Its geology is characterized by granite and remnants of older rock. About 10 million years ago, the Sierra Nevada was uplifted and tilted to form its unique slopes, which increased the steepness of stream and river beds, forming deep, narrow canyons. About one million years ago glaciers formed at higher elevations. They moved downslope, cutting and sculpting the U-shaped Yosemite Valley.

What a February
Well...what a great couple of days to be stuck in the office, amiright? (I work mostly from home but on occasion I have to go into the office and of course some nice little royal bombs get dropped when I can't be here.)
I've gotten some anons about what's happened but I won't be posting them (sorry, everyone!). Because so much has happened, I think it would just be confusing to rehash some of it, and other asks were also sent to Empress and Sassy (nothing wrong with that! They were doing answers in real-time and they've said pretty much the same things I'd have said).
So to recap recent events:
2/5/24: Buckingham Palace announced King Charles has cancer. Fortuntely it was caught early, Charles is doing/feeling well, he's beginning treatment immediately.
2/6/24: Harry catches a last-minute flight to London. Clarence House puts out a story "business as usual, nothing to worry about, King can still work and he is still working" (i.e., Harry go home).
2/7/24: Harry arrives in London. He goes directly to Charles, who is delaying travel to Sandringham to see him. Harry's PR says they met for an hour, Meghan wanted to say hello/wish him well via Facetime but Charles declined, and Harry went to BP for the evening. The Daily Mail tracked the comings and goings from Clarence House and realized the meeting lasted less than 15 minutes, from the time of Harry's convoy entering the grounds to Charles's helicopter leaving. It is further revealed that Harry spent the night in a hotel, William didn't return Harry's calls, Harry didn't want Camilla involved in the meeting, and none of Harry's "friends" offered to host him for the night. Also, William makes his first public engagements since mid-January when Kate's treatment began; Tom Cruise is there.
2/8/24: Harry flies home. He's papped at Heathrow entering the VVIP suite (as one does). Wait, Harry's not at home! He's in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl (or the Superb Owl) and makes a surprise appearance to present the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award. Sussex PR immediately begins telling everyone that Harry and Meghan will be attending the Super Bowl.
2/9/24: Lambrook School begins half-term break and the Wales family travels to Anmer Hall/Sandringham estate. Harry's appearance in Vegas gets picked up by the media.
2/10/24: Meghan's PR starts walking back their own rumors that they'll be in Vegas for the Super Bowl, citing the need to prepare for their Canada IG trip.
2/11/24: Super Bowl Sunday. No Harry and Meghan to be seen.
2/12/24: Meghan's PR reveals she spent the weekend cooking with Afghan immigrants in an Archewell initiative.
2/13/24: Harry and Meghan launch their newest rebranding effort with their new Sussex website with Meghan's coat of arms (rather than their joint coat of arms). Meghan announces a new podcast deal with someone no one has really heard of.
2/14/24: Harry and Meghan arrive in Vancouver for the "one year to 2025 Invictus Games." Meghan coordinates a photoshoot with outdoor activities; merches two outfits; and virtue-signals their "we're still royal" demands with Kate cosplay, a coat called Kensington, and a 'you can call us Sir/Ma'am' exchange caught on camera. In the evening they're papped going to a super-romantic Valentine's Day dinner date.
2/15/24: Day 2 of the Vancouver IG kickoff visit. They visit wheelchair basketball. Meghan gives her signature full-body contact-hugs. Sussex PR announce that the family has changed their surname to Sussex (from Mountbatten-Windsor) and this is the first time all family members have the same surname. Meghan also claps back at mounting criticism by saying "We will not be broken."
2/16/24: Day 3 of the Vancouver IG kickoff visit. Harry gives an interview to GMA's Will Reeve (son of the late Superman actor Christopher Reeve and his wife, Dana) in which he blabs about Charles's cancer and reiterates how much he loves his family, hinting that he's available to come back. Sussex PR also drops an article in the afternoon (with BP collaboration) announcing Harry and Meghan's plan to return with half in/half out; this is very clearly one of Charles's trial balloons from Clarence House.
(Today) 2/17/24: Backlash to the trial balloon is swift, so Clarence House backtracks immediately and does damage control. Kensington Palace announces that William will attend the 2024 BAFTAs tomorrow. Half-term break for Lambrook School ends on February 19th so the Waleses are traveling back to London/Windsor this weekend. And Hollywood has fought back by leaking about their Netflix deal, which contradicts a ton of Meghan's PR from 2020/2021.
Since some of you have asked for my thoughts, here you go. I am warning you now it's probably going to be my usual essay.
On the new website:
The new Sussex website is a problem. It conveys a legitimacy to the public that Harry and Meghan do not have, which The Queen and Edward Young made very sure was publicly known back in 2020. In particular, it's the use of Meghan's coat of arms, which signals palace support or endorsement. IMO, Buckingham needs to force them to take the coat of arms down.
I suspect they are using Meghan's coat of arms because a) Meghan believes it was personally awarded to her and is hers to use as she wants, whereas Harry's coat of arms probably comes with strings from the BRF and b) it's CYA if ever there's a divorce - if you look at it from a business standpoint, this is nothing more than Meghan branding the company with her name so she can prove ownership when they're splitting assets in a divorce, increasing her chances of getting the "company."
What about Archewell?
They're probably phasing out Archewell. It doesn't have the same visual connection to Harry and Meghan that Sussex does. I think they struggled so much with Archewell and were never able to get it off the ground in terms of a brand or an identity, in part due to the COVID-era launch. Sussex is a much stronger association for them and connects them more tightly to the royal identity. Archewell will probably be either their nonprofit arm or their content creator arm but it won't be as important going forward as it's been in the past.
Frankly, I would be surprised if Archewell v Sussex branding didn't come up in the brand analysis that WME did when Meghan first signed with them. We know they did a brand analysis because there was a ton of PR in August 2023 about Harry and Meghan becoming separate brands, which didn't work at all and they were back together as a "Sussex" brand in September 2023 with Dusseldorf Invictus Games. Seeing the success of "Team Sussex" in Dusseldorf definitely informed the website and the rebranding attempt.
What about the timing of all this?
They're taking advantage of the quietness from the royal family. They do this every year like clockwork when 1) the BRF is on summer holidays (July through early September) and 2) the BRF is on winter holidays (late December through early February). What is unusual about this timing is that it's taking place in mid-February and possibly well into March, which is a clear signal that it's the Sussexes taking advantage of Kate's absence to draw attention to themselves because Kate isn't there to steal their headlines.
And that it was a whole week of Sussex PR is not unusual either. It's their usual pattern when they have something big they want to promote and dominate the news with. It's cyclical at this point: first is a reminder of their royal status (Harry flying to Charles's bedside), then it's a reminder of their celebrity status (the Super Bowl appearance), then it's a big announcement (Sussex website), culminating in a set of public engagements/appearances (Invictus Games) with media attention. And to keep the attention coming, they drop breadcrumbs about the royal family to look like they're still "in," which buys them a few extra days of coverage because Charles falls for the bait every time.
The more interesting bit of timing in all of this is the Netflix article. Netflix wouldn't randomly give comments like this, so something must have happened behind the scenes for them to be pushed to this particular breaking point. I feel like perhaps the Sussexes may be trying to renegotiate their deals - maybe they asked for more money or maybe Meghan is trying to get more out of this 'Meet Me at the Lake' production than was agreed - and this is Netflix making it clear that it's over and done. I also have a niggling feeling that it might be connected to the upcoming film awards (BAFTA Film Awards tomorrow, Oscars on March 10th) - maybe they're trying to score tickets to parties using Netflix's name?
Are they really going to come back? Will Charles let them work again?
Analytically, the evidence points to 'no.' The trial balloon failed quickly faster than any other I've seen recently, which is and isn't surprising. It's surprising how quickly Charles backtracked since it had his implicit endorsement. It's not surprising that Charles pulled it down - he's as thin-skinned as Harry and Meghan both are when it comes to criticism.
But it's also more than just the trial balloon. It's everything else.
Charles wants them back on the family side. That's always been pretty clear. I think he waffles on having them back on the "work" side: on the one hand, the BRF needs the help since 10 of The Queen's 14 working royals are elderly (all 5 Kents, the 2 Gloucesters, Charles and Camilla, and Anne) and 2 of the remaining 4 are dealing with a signficant health issue and are temporarily out of commission - in the business sense, this is unsustainable and untenable succession planning. But on the other hand, no one wants Harry and Meghan back, for a litany of reasons including how much shit they've talked about the family (collectively and individually), the petty PR games they play for attention, and the Sussexes' general toxicity. And by 'no one,' I mean family members, courtiers/staff, others in the aristocracy (not getting invites to the Grosvenor wedding is a huge reflection of what "their kind" thinks of teh Sussexes), and the at-large general public.
Charles probably has entertained the idea of half in/half out now that he's in charge and the Sussexes are now lovebombing him (vs in 2020 when they were lovebombing The Queen) but his biggest opposition is public support - it took Charles 30 years and 4 significant deaths (Diana, Queen Mother, Philip, and her own forthcoming death) to get The Queen's support for Camilla to become 'Queen Camilla and, in turn, the public's support or the public's indifference.
Charles doesn't have that kind of time to get the institutional and public support to bring Harry back. He's got 10 years at best, which is now handicapped by a cancer diagnosis.
Beyond that, he doesn't even have Harry and Meghan's cooperation the same way he had Camilla's cooperation. Camilla cooperated with a 10-year wait to be liked well enough that no one would object to her marrying Charles. Camilla then cooperated with a further 17-year wait to be liked well enough that the institution would support her becoming Queen.
Can Harry and Meghan wait that long? No. They can't. They couldn't wait an extra year to get engaged. They couldn't wait to have their first child. They couldn't wait out the criticism from Fall 2018. They couldn't wait out the criticism from Summer 2019. Harry couldn't wait for the phone-hacking settlement. When they want something, they want it now. They buy completed projects and slap their branding on it vs. developing their own programs.
Can Harry and Meghan cooperate with anyone? No. They can't. They couldn't cooperate with William and Kate on the Royal Foundation. They couldn't cooperate with the courtiers for Archie's birth. They couldn't cooperate with the family on Megxit. They couldn't cooperate with the rota for tour coverage. They need to be totally and fully in control of absolutely everything. Their idea of cooperation is 'I tell you what to do, you do it.'
And because they're too impatient and because they refuse to cooperate, there's no way they'll support a 10-years long PR drive for Charles to rehabilitate their public image and get William's support. Heck, they can't even last a 3-month media rebrand. Charles knows that, which I suspect is why he may be trying to fast-track it but 1) when has fast-tracking something ever gone well for the BRF and 2) William is the linchpin holding it all together. Charles can't do anything without William's support. Yes, William is that powerful now - the public does pay attention to what he and Kate signal and the public would support them more than they would support Charles. Charles can't risk losing William's favor any more than he already has.
The third reason stopping Charles from taking Harry and Meghan back as working royals is Camilla and that Harry doesn't want her involved. He admitted it last week when he didn't contradict her leak about it. IMO, this reveals Harry's hand: he wants to position himself (or Meghan and himself) as Camilla's alternate, the way Charles often stood in as Philip's alternate. They want Camilla to retire so they can take her place in prestige, wealth, and attention. It's the only way they can "be better" than William and Kate, and they probably think it's how they can get "more" in the inheritance than William. Unfortunately for them, Camilla is Charles's line in the sand so no way will Charles let that happen after he spent 30 years getting Camilla to be able to sit next to him, and on top of all that, Camilla herself didn't wait 30 years to be Queen just for a pair of narcisstic glassbowl shitheads to usurp her at the last second.
That's the "working royal" side of it.
When you look at the "family" side of it, we know that Charles is more accepting of allowing the Sussexes back as family members, albeit with two strict rules:
No Meghan
No royal work
We know these are Charles's rules because it's already been communicated to us, most especially in the events around the Queen's funeral and his own coronation.
We also know these are Charles's' terms because Harry is publicly fighting against them this week, which suggests that these may have been reiterated (or relitgated, perhaps) during the <15-minute visit on February 7th.
"We all finally have the same surname for the first time as a family" and "maybe I'll become an American' is Harry's way of telling Charles and the courtiers that all four of them are a package deal and they all move together (like Archie's salt and pepper shakers). Meaning that if Charles wants Harry back, Charles must also take Meghan, Archie, and Lili too.
The Vancouver trip being such a royal rip-off is Harry's way of demanding royal work. His position is that he and Meghan must have the exact same lifestyle now that they had back in 2018: a palace residence, glamorous patronages, military honors, gushy praising media coverage, carriage processions, and equal precedence to the entire Wales family.
All this to illustrate that the dividing line is over the work aspect.
On one side is everyone saying "no, they can't work, they're just family." On the other side is Harry and Meghan saying "we're not just family, we're also working royals." And Charles is there smack in the middle saying "don't make my last years miserable" begging someone to give in. It's clear that Charles hopes it will be the institution (i.e. William) that gives in so he can fast-track the rehabilitation.
So no, I don't think Charles and the Sussexes will succeed in being part-time working royals. I think we'll see a lot of negotiating in the coming weeks and months (like Sussex demands for Trooping) and it may get loud and it may look frighteningly real, but that's only because William and Kate are on leave from work and their absence lets Harry and Meghan play offense. Once the Waleses are working again, or a new picture of Kate is released (I'm still hedging my bets for something celebrating Mother's Day next month), the Sussexes go back to playing on defense, and playing poorly.
We only need to worry if William, Kate, and Camilla appear to be changing their minds. They represent "the institution" to Charles, as well as public support (William) and establishment media (Camilla). William continues to tell everyone he isn't speaking to Harry. Kate's body language at the Windsor Walkabout keeps resurfacing. Camilla has leaked that Harry doesn't want to see her when he visits Charles and that she doesn't support the Sussexes coming back. There's nothing to worry about for now.

Thanks to @numinousmysteries for tagging me! I had never checked these stats before!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
92
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
484,620
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I’ve written for Hannibal, Battlestar Galactica, The Fall, and The X-Files, but only The X-Files at this point.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Parting Glass (smut)
Animus Possidendi (dark smut)
The Common Fate of All Things Rare (casefile, cowritten)
Lacuna (casefile)
This Her Fever (cancer arc)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes and no. Not like I should. I am so deeply, truly grateful for every single one.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Well, I killed William in Inhaling the Different Dawn, but that wasn’t at the end.
Maybe Where The Vines Cling Crimson? Scully’s cancer comes back and her fate is ambiguous. And I had Scully kill Emily in Alabaster Stones. But I think that was the right ending for both of them.
As a mother? A Basket of Reeds, where Scully gives William away. I can’t even reread it without a lump in my throat, man.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Tent of Shelter is fluffy and lovely gets a lot of love, and was inspired by a STUNNING manip by @avocadoave but I personally think In The Gale. It’s the one that, to me, feels the most like a grownup relationship of two people processing some trauma. I think that’s an ending that’s happy and also real - like “I don’t love being broken, but I can survive being broken with you.” Two abeyances that lean…
Foxfire for similar reasons. I real love that little story, which I wrote thanks to @perplexistan
I’m 43. I’ve been married for well over two decades and let me tell you that young love is a gift and mature love is a craft.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Some! And that’s really great too, that people read words I wrote and felt so passionately that they left me words about those feelings. What a strange but profound compliment!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do. PWP isn’t my personal taste so even though I wrote a LOT of smut for the old pornbattles at LJ I wanted the smut to still tell a story.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I can’t say it’s especially crazy, but Fern Hill is a Mulder/Stella Gibson crossover. There are a few little ficlets with XF/Silence of the Lambs crossovers in my Inbox Prompts series.
Oh fuck! Wait! I wrote a Fall/Hannibal/XF crossover called Anthemoessa where Stella, Scully, and Bedelia all meet. Okay that’s it. That wins.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Years ago. God, isn’t that sad? To need positive reinforcement that much?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! It was SUCH a compliment!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have - The Common Fate of All Things Rare
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Mr. Virgata and me. Followed by Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who literally invented the word. ❤️
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The Fisher King
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I do pretty good banter and my education makes me pretty good at the sciencey bits.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I get too lost in descriptions and I try too hard to be clever. I do my best to self edit but sometimes I reread things and I’m like oh my GOD SHUT YOUR PRETENTIOUS ASS UP.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I’ve done it for Bedelia and Hannibal in Italian. I’m not sure I understand the question?
19. First fandom you wrote for?
TXF, my one true love.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
I don’t know that I have a favorite per se. I am most proud of the ones that challenged me to do something outside my comfort zone. Samson is one of mytop fives even though it’s Mulder/Diana. I think I did a nice job. I also wrote Pair of Aces/Double or Nothing which is Scully/Byers.
But I do really love the world of Petrichor and Singing of Mount Abora, and I like the cases.

Mosey On with the Mojave Desert Tortoise
Also known as the California desert tortoise, or more simply the desert tortoise, Gopherus agassizii is one of the few tortoise species native to North America. As its name implies, it is found only in the Mojave and Sonoroan deserts, from northern Mexico into the southwestern United States; there it is the state reptile of California and Nevada. Their habitat consists mainly of of desert scrub, where temperatures can reach over 60 °C (140 °F); however, in the southern reaches of its range, the desert tortoise can also be found in tropical deciduous forests.
To beat the heat, G. agassizii digs burrows where they can rest when its too hot or too cold to forage, and where they can aestivate during the hottest months of the summer and hibernate in the winter. These burrows can be quite extensive, reaching 10 m (32 ft) long, and up to 25 tortoises may share the same burrow. Individuals will often dig out several burrows in their territory, which can range anywhere from 3 to 25 hectares (7 to 61 acres). Many of these burrows will also become homes for other animals, including rattlesnakes, gila monsters, squirrels, burrowing owls, and quail.
Like all tortoises, the Mojave desert tortoise is herbivorous. Most of its food is grass, but due to the limited choice in the desert they may also consume wildflowers, shrubs, and cacti-- both fruits and new growth. Due to their hard shells, this species has few predators as adults, but hatchlings are vulnerable to foxes, coyotes, birds of prey, and gila monsters.
Very little rain falls in the desert, and so the desert tortoise is well adapted to do without; the species stores up to 40% of its body weight in water in its bladder, to be absorbed later. Individuals will also dig shallow 'watering holes' in the ground, to be visited after rainfall. G. agassizii also gets much of its water content from its diet, and can go up to a year without drinking.
Desert tortoises typically mate in the spring, from March to May, though mating can continue until autumn. Males seek out and fight each other for access to females, typically by ramming each other or attempting to flip each other over. However, this species is also one of the few known to engage in homosexual activity, particularly between males. Because this is not a species that mates for life, or maintains strict social hierarchies, the purposes of this intercourse is unknown.
Females can store sperm for up to eighteen months, and typically lay their eggs in the following year from May to July in clutches of 3 to 8. These eggs are laid in a deep nest dug into the ground, and take 90 to 135 days to hatch. Young emerge in the fall, and receive no parental care. If they survive, individuals may take between 10 to 16 years to become fully mature, and can live to be 80 years old.
Desert tortoises are well adapted to blend into their environments. The shell is typically a brown or dull yellow, while the body is tan or dusty grey. There is little difference between males and females, save that males are slightly bigger and have a concave plastron (lower shell) to accommodate mounting onto a female. The species is medium sized, ranging between 11 to 23 kg (24.23 to 50.66 lb) in weight and 25 to 36 cm (10 to 14 in) in length.
Conservation status: The IUCN has ranked the Mojave desert tortoise as Critically Endangered. Their primary threats include habitat fragmentation and loss, predation by feral dogs, and road mortality. The population is estimated to have declined by 90% since the 1980s. However, conservation programs are being implemented to preserve critical habitat, and several zoos and conservancies have captive breeding programs for the species.

Washington CNN  — Rifts between the United States and Israel spilled into public view Tuesday as President Joe Biden warned that Israel was losing international support for its campaign against Hamas and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly rejected American plans for post-war Gaza.
The divides, which until now had mostly been contained behind the scenes, reflected growing differences between the two staunch allies as the civilian death toll in Gaza mounts.
Speaking to Democratic donors in Washington, Biden voiced criticism of Israel’s hardline government and said Netanyahu needed to alter his approach.
“I think he has to change, and with this government, this government in Israel is making it very difficult for him to move,” Biden said, calling Netanyahu’s government the “most conservative government in Israel’s history.”
He warned support for the country’s military campaign is waning amid heavy bombardment of Gaza and added that the Israeli government “doesn’t want a two-state solution.”
Speaking ahead of Biden’s comments at the fundraiser, Netanyahu admitted Tuesday that he and the US president disagree on what should happen to Gaza after the war. In a statement, the Israeli leader said: “Yes, there is disagreement about ‘the day after Hamas’ and I hope that we will reach agreement here as well.”
The pair of remarks amounted to some of the most candid to date when it comes to the persistent differences between Israel and the United States, its top international ally.
Before the war broke out following Hamas’ terror attacks on October 7, Biden had been open in his criticism of Netanyahu’s governing coalition, which includes far-right parties. But he has mostly stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Netanyahu in public since the conflict began, despite mounting criticism of the Israeli campaign.
Netanyahu has been asked repeatedly for his vision for a post-war Gaza in interviews with international media since October 7, telling CNN’s Dana Bash in an interview last month that he did see a role for “some kind of civilian Palestinian authority,” albeit one that had been “reconstructed.”
But in his statement Tuesday before Biden’s remarks at the Democratic fundraiser, Netanyahu said: “I would like to clarify my position: I will not allow Israel to repeat the mistake of Oslo.”
Biden’s comments Tuesday – in particular, that the current Israeli government “does not want a two-state solution” — suggest major differences with his Israeli counterpart.
That idea – of a Palestinian state existing alongside the state of Israel – took off in the 1990s, with a series of agreements known as the Oslo Accords, which created, among other things, the Palestinian Authority (PA), which assumed partial control over the West Bank and Gaza.
The PA was effectively driven out of Gaza by Hamas in 2007 but the Biden administration has made increasingly clear it believes the PA should resume governance of the enclave when the war is over.
“After the great sacrifice of our civilians and our soldiers, I will not allow the entry into Gaza of those who educate for terrorism, support terrorism and finance terrorism,” Netanyahu said.
“Gaza will be neither Hamastan nor Fatahstan,” Netanyahu’s statement concluded, a reference not just to Hamas but also to Fatah, the largest Palestinian faction, which was instrumental in the signing of the Oslo Accords, and continues to control the Palestinian Authority three decades later.
Israel began its assault on Gaza shortly after Hamas’ terror attacks, which left more than 1,200 people dead. Biden has said Israel has a right and a responsibility to defend itself.
In phone calls, however, Biden has encouraged Netanyahu to do more to avoid civilian casualties in Gaza, and top administration officials have said there is a “gap” between Israel’s intentions and the realities on the ground.
Speaking Monday evening at a White House Hanukkah reception, Biden acknowledged Israel was in “a tough spot” following the Hamas attack on October 7 and the subsequent war in Gaza. And he alluded to differences with Netanyahu amid the current fighting.
“We’ll continue to provide military assistance to Israel until they get rid of Hamas, but we have to be careful – they have to be careful,” Biden said. “The whole world’s public opinion can shift overnight, we can’t let that happen.”
Biden and Netanyahu have a decades-long relationship that has at times been strained. At the Monday evening reception, Biden said he once gifted Netanyahu a photo and wrote at the top: “I love you but I don’t agree with a damn thing you had to say.”
“It’s about the same today,” Biden said, adding he’d “had my differences with some Israeli leadership.”
Biden administration officials have been pressing their Israeli counterparts in recent weeks to begin planning for what happens in Gaza once the military campaign ends, including insisting on keeping the door open for an eventual Palestinian state.
The US says it would reject any proposal that includes Israeli control over Gaza and has warned against shrinking the Palestinian territory’s boundaries.
The US is also pressuring Israel to open the Kerem Shalom border crossing to allow humanitarian aid trucks to go directly into Gaza on an emergency basis, US officials told CNN.
The Israeli government on Tuesday allowed aid trucks to be inspected at Kerem Shalom for the first time since Hamas’s attack on October 7, but those trucks must still drive back through Egypt before entering Gaza through the Rafah crossing. While the move doubles Israel’s capacity to inspect aid trucks, it does not resolve the bottleneck that is emerging at the Rafah crossing.
Biden raised the issue directly with Netanyahu during their last call last week, the US officials said. National security adviser Jake Sullivan also urged his Israeli counterparts to open up the Israel-Gaza crossing before he arrives in Israel for meetings on Thursday, the officials said.
“Rafah cannot absorb a sufficient amount of aid to meet the needs of the Palestinian people which are only growing as there have been more people displaced,” Sullivan told CNN in a phone interview Tuesday.
“We need the capacity that Kerem Shalom provides – on an emergency basis – to get more food, water, medicine and essentials in to be distributed to Palestinian civilians and we’re putting that quite urgently to the Israeli government to say, ‘We are asking you to do this ASAP because of the nature of the humanitarian situation on the ground,’” he added.
A spokeswoman for the Israeli prime minister’s office declined to comment on the US move. Israel has so far resisted the idea. It cut off all commercial and humanitarian aid traffic from Israel into Gaza since Hamas launched its surprise terrorist attack on October 7 and has vowed to sever all ties with Gaza.

Gaslight, Chapter 3/58
Rated X | Read it here on AO3
Dana reluctantly steps out of the passenger seat and follows her mother to the front door. Cal keeps his hands in his pockets, bobbing his head at her with a pained smile. They all stand there awkwardly for a beat until Maggie pushes the front door open and steps past the threshold, looking over her shoulder at Dana expectantly.
Dana steps into the foyer and looks around. There’s a staircase immediately in front of her with a hallway running adjacent. To her left is a living room, to her right a dining room. The floors are all hardwood, the walls bordered with crown molding and chair rails. It’s a nice house, one she might have dreamed about living in one day when she was a young woman just setting out in her career. She spots a stuffed elephant at the foot of the stairs and she picks it up, a flush of fear washing through her as she recalls the children.
“The kids are at the neighbors’,” Cal says suddenly, and she turns to see him standing near the front door. “I thought maybe it would be easier for you if they weren’t here right when you got home.” His expression is empathetic but also wounded, and his jaw twitches jerkily to one side like it did at the hospital this morning. One of his shoulders lifts spasmodically and his head tilts toward it, and she looks away.
“Why don’t you give her a tour, Cal?” Maggie suggests, and she can feel them exchanging meaningful looks behind her.
“Good idea, Maggie,” Cal acquiesces, and walks slowly into the room to their left. “This is the formal sitting room,” he says, gesturing around. There’s a small sofa across from an armchair, and a shelf loaded with books. “We don’t really spend much time in here.” He looks at her, clearly expecting some kind of response or recognition, but she feels nothing. He leads her through a set of French doors at the back of the room into another living room. “This is the family room. This is where we usually watch TV or whatever after the kids are in bed.”
She realizes that the we in his statement means the two of them: Dana and Cal. The married couple, working parents of two young children. She looks at the sectional couch and the TV mounted to the wall above the fireplace and tries to imagine them there, curled up with glasses of wine and network TV. She just can’t see it. On the wall beside the fireplace there’s a large family photo mounted in an ornate frame. She glances at it, but she can feel Cal watching her so she looks away.
The back wall of the house is covered in windows, and she can see a generous deck and well maintained yard. At the other end of the great room is a well-appointed kitchen with granite countertops and an island. She walks across the room and runs her palm over the cool stone, wondering how many times she’s prepared dinner here, or baked birthday cakes.
“That hallway leads back to the front door,” Cal says, pointing to a hall between the living and kitchen areas. “And this one over here leads to the dining room. The garage is just through here,” he says with a thumb hitched toward a door near the pantry. She meets his eye briefly and his melancholy tugs at her heart. She feels as though she’s stolen something from him, but she doesn’t know how to give it back. His jaw jerks and his shoulder jumps, and her doctor’s mind begins to wonder. He must see it on her face, because he looks down and sighs heavily. “I have Tourette’s,” he supplies, his tone defeated. “My tics get worse when I’m stressed.”
“Oh,” she answers, stopping short of adding a platitude. She realizes that this is information she should already have, that this is a disclosure he’s made to her already, years ago. She realizes that he went to bed a few days ago with a wife who loved and accepted him exactly as he is, and now has a stranger in his wife’s body standing in his kitchen gawking at his tics. “You have a beautiful home,” she says, trying to break the tension, and Cal lifts his head and looks at her like she slapped him in the face.
“Let’s look upstairs, Dana,” Maggie says, and Dana turns to see her hovering near the hallway that Cal indicated leads to the front door. Dana steals a glance at him but his head is down, so she follows her mother back to the stairwell. “You fell in love with this house the moment you saw it,” Maggie explains as Dana trails behind her to the second floor. “Cal felt like it was too big of an investment, but you insisted.”
The stairs turn and then end at a large landing, and to the right there is an open space that runs along the front of the house. The floor is littered with toys and a dollhouse is pushed against the far wall, and she infers that this area serves as a play space for the children. Maggie stands at the top of the stairs and watches her as she picks up a naked Barbie and smooths its hair down, then sets it in the driver’s seat of a plastic sports car. Dana wanders past her mother to the hallway that runs along the other side of the stairwell. She starts at the furthest room to the left, which hosts a queen bed and neutral decor. A guest room, she assumes, not one occupied by anyone on a regular basis.
The next door opens to a child’s room with green walls and a lofted bed. The floor is a carpet of Hot Wheels, LEGO, and action figures, and wooden letters mounted between the two windows read “Peter.” There’s a poster near the closet of a brown-haired man beside a blue cartoon dog boasting “We just figured out Blue’s Clues because we’re really smart.” She quietly closes the door and moves to the next, which is a bathroom that looks to be shared by the children. The next door is a girl’s room, much neater than Peter’s. The four-poster bed is hung with a white lace canopy, and a fleet of neatly arranged stuffed animals sits atop the carefully made blankets. On a desk near the window there are several sheets of paper with a child’s messy scrawl attempting the same message over and over.
Deer Mommy, I mess you.
Deer Mommy, kum home soon.
Deer Mommy, do not forgit about Jessis birtday.
Dana’s chest feels tight and she walks away from the desk, back into the hallway where Maggie looks at her with a concerned wrinkle of her eyebrows. Dana pauses, taking several steadying breaths, and looks from the final door at the end of the hall back to her mother.
“That’s the master bedroom,” Maggie supplies, and Dana nods.
She steps through cautiously, feeling like an intruder. There’s a king size bed on a maple sleigh frame in the middle of the furthest wall, and a matching dresser opposite. She approaches the bed, picking up a framed photograph on one of the side tables and inspecting it with clinical detachment. In it, she and Cal stand on a beach, sun on their faces and wind pushing her hair around haphazardly. Cal’s arm is extended and the photo is close cropped, indicating they took it themselves. He is smiling broadly and her lips are pressed to his cheek, her eyes closed. She stares at the photo, begging her mind to call forth a memory, a feeling, a sense of recognition. She feels nothing.
She returns the picture and looks over the rest of the items on the table: an alarm clock, a Dean Koontz novel, a set of foam earplugs. She crosses to the other side table and finds a dog-eared copy of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, a bottle of lotion, chapstick, and a pair of reading glasses. While the items are not familiar, it seems clear that this is her side of the bed. She carefully pulls the drawer on the side table open, and almost slams it back closed before she realizes that these are her belongings. A half-used box of condoms, a bottle of KY jelly, and a small egg-shaped device attached to a remote that she has to assume is a vibrator, though it looks nothing like her most recent recollection of such a tool.
She wanders into the master bathroom and feels her first glimpse of a positive emotion when she sees a large soaking tub. There is also a stall shower, and a large walk in closet. She runs her hands over the fabric of her clothes, gathering it up and bringing it to her nose. She does the same with Cal’s clothes, hoping for some kind of spark. It’s all just stuff, neither offensive nor familiar. Just things in a room in a house in a town. Things that could belong to anyone, but somehow belong to her.
She makes her way back to where Maggie is still standing at the top of the stairs. Dana flashes her eyes only briefly at her mother, long enough to watch the hopeful look fall from her face.
“It’s okay, Dana,” Maggie says reassuringly, though Dana can hear the tightness in her throat. She feels like a disappointment, like a letdown. She wishes she knew when she might feel something other than lost.
They find Cal in the kitchen, hunkered down at the island scribbling on a legal pad. He stands when they enter the room, and Dana averts her eyes so she doesn’t have to watch Maggie confirm that no memories were called forth while they were upstairs. She still doesn’t remember. She still doesn’t know who she is.
“I wrote some things down for you,” Cal says hopefully, sliding the legal pad toward her. “Just some basics about me and the kids. Michelle said it might help you remember, or at least feel less confused.”
Dana pushes her mouth into a smile and glances at the paper. At the top it says:
Calvin Michael Rose DOB 05/29/62
Abigail Margaret Rose DOB 12/12/93
Peter Calvin Rose DOB 03/29/96
Beneath the three names, squeezed in as a clear afterthought:
Dana Katherine Rose DOB 2/23/64
“I do remember my own birthday,” she says softly, then looks at Cal and attempts a genuine smile. “So at least I’ve got that going for me.”
Cal hesitates, trying to read her, and then a relieved smile stretches across his face.
“Damn, I was hoping maybe I could get away with forgetting it next year,” he quips half-heartedly, and something that feels a little bit like hope stirs in her chest.
There’s a screech from outside and Dana’s eyes widen.
“That’s the kids,” Maggie says with thinly veiled panic as she hurries to the front door.
Dana stays put, her heart leaping into her throat. Cal gives her a long look and then follows Maggie down the hallway, and Dana listens as they greet the children.
“Grammie!”
“Abby girl, did you grow again since I saw you last? I specifically told you to stop that!”
“I can’t stop growing, Grammie, that’s unpossible.”
“Grammie, I growed a million feet last night!”
“Oh my goodness, you’re right, Pete! How will you fit in your bed?”
A long pause.
“Grammie’s joking, bud, you’ll still fit in your bed.”
“Is Mommy home?”
Another long pause.
“Yes, she is, would you like to say hi?”
“Does she remember me?”
“You know what, kiddo, her brain is still working really hard to remember everything.”
“Mommy doesn’t know us?”
“Of course she knows you, Abby. Her heart knows you, okay? Her brain is just still a little confused from getting bumped on the head.”
The quick tramp of feet skitter down the hall, and Dana braces herself.
“Whoa, Pete, hold on—”
“Mommy, I finded a rock what looks like a dinosaur egg!”
A small boy comes flying into the room, looking around and then making a determined beeline toward her with an outstretched hand. He has dark features and big, protruding ears. She immediately notes how much he looks like Cal, though she’s unsettled by the familiar set of his mouth—one she’s seen in the mirror on many occasions. He steps right up close and holds out a smooth white rock that is speckled with black spots.
“It’s a egg from a T-Rex, Mommy! I finded it in Eric’s yard!” he says proudly, grabbing onto her arm for leverage as he pushes up on his tiptoes to get the rock as close to her face as possible.
“Wow,” she stammers, accepting the proffered rock and examining it. “This is really cool, Pete.”
She looks up and sees Cal and a young girl standing in the doorway of the kitchen. The girl is half-hidden behind Cal’s body, her cheek pressed against his hip. She has long, reddish-brown hair and a fair complexion, and her mouth is twisted into a suspicious scowl.
“Hi, Abby,” she says gently, her heart aching with the knowledge that a known and loved mother has been swapped with a changeling, that being herself. Whatever her own struggle to find her place in this life, she cannot allow these children to lose their parent.
Abby moves further behind Cal, only one of her eyes peeking out around his body. Cal reaches behind his back and tries to encourage her out, pivoting to make himself less useful as a barrier.
“Come on, honey, it’s okay,” he gently coaxes her.
“It’s okay, Cal, don’t force her,” Dana insists, and Cal drops his arms in resignation as Abby presses her face into his lower back and wraps her arms around his hips.
“Mommy, do you know me?” Pete asks, his face screwed up into a comically emphatic expression of doubt.
Dana crouches down so that she is eye level with the child and searches his face. He’s a cute kid: long, dark eyelashes, little chiclet teeth, a button of a nose. She has the distinct impression that she has never before seen him until this moment.
“Of course, you’re Pete!” she says brightly, and the child’s mouth springs into a wide, gummy smile.
“I knowed it!” he declares triumphantly, turning to address his sister. “Mommy knows us, Abby!” he tells her, but the elder child only tightens her grip on her father.
Dana stands and meets Cal’s eye, and he blinks at her somberly as he understands that she is just placating the children.
“Who wants pizza?” he asks with energy in his voice that does not translate to his body.
“Me! I do!” the children squeal, Abby emerging from behind her father to jump up and down with one arm raised.
“Sounds great,” Dana says, though she doubts that she has any room for pizza beside the rock that currently sits heavy in her gut.
-
“I’m only forty minutes away, Dana,” Maggie says as she lowers herself into the driver’s seat of her car.
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay for dinner?” Dana asks hopefully, glancing over her shoulder to the house—her house.
“I’ll end up stuck in rush hour traffic if I wait much longer,” Maggie explains.
“Oh…okay,” Dana says, taking one step back so Maggie has room to close the door.
“It’s going to be okay, sweetheart,” Maggie reassures her, and a sudden onslaught of tears thickens Dana’s throat. “I’ll call you in the morning, okay?”
Dana looks at the ground and nods, feeling like a fearful child.
She watches from the driveway until her mother’s car disappears around the corner and out of sight, and then slowly makes her way back into the house. She hears chatter from the kitchen as soon as she steps through the door, and she pauses to listen for a moment.
“Look how long my cheese can stretch,” Abby says with a full mouth.
“Very impressive,” Cal replies.
“What’s that, Daddy?” Pete asks.
“It’s a mushroom, bud.”
“Blech! That’s a-scusting!” Pete shouts dramatically.
“That just means more for me,” Cal retorts, following it with a series of yummy noises as Pete laughs heartily.
Dana makes her way down the hall, standing uncomfortably at one end of the island and surveying the scene. One box of cheese pizza lies open, and another with an assortment of meats and vegetables that doesn’t look especially appetizing. Cal is seated between the two children, and there is an open seat beside Abby that is presumably meant to be hers.
“Sit down,” Cal suggests with a nod toward the open chair. “I got half with no sausage for you.”
Dana takes a plate and selects a slice of pizza sans sausage, then moves carefully toward the seat beside Abby. Abby glances at Cal and he nods softly in reassurance. Dana takes a small bite, pushing it around in her mouth.
“How was your day today, Abby?” she asks, and Abby looks at her like she has three heads.
“Abby had soccer today, right?” Cal prompts her, and Abby stares at her plate.
“I can throw a ball really, really far!” Pete interjects.
“I’d love to see that,” Dana tells him, and the four-year-old beams.
“You’ve already seen him do it a hundred million times,” Abby grumbles.
“Abigail,” Cal warns her sternly.
“It’s okay,” Dana says quietly, giving him a pleading look over Abby’s head.
They finish their meal amiably, with Pete happily taking the spotlight and filling any gaps in conversation. Dana offers to clean the kitchen while Cal takes the children upstairs to get ready for bed, then spends the better part of fifteen minutes trying to find the recycling before she concludes that they must not recycle. Finally, she pads up the stairs and follows the sounds of voices to the half-open door of Abby’s room.
“It’s okay, honey, Mommy just needs some time for her brain to feel better,” Cal says gently, and there is a wet sniff.
“She doesn’t even know who I am, Daddy,” the little girl whines, and Dana’s heart clutches. “She keeps calling me Abby.”
“That’s your name!” Pete points out, and Cal shushes him.
“I know it is, bud, but Mommy always calls Abby her special name, remember?”
“She calls me Peter Peter Punkin Eater,” Pete says sadly.
“Only sometimes, Pete.”
“What if she never, ever remembers us?” Abby asks pleadingly, and there is a long pause.
“I think she will, honey. I don’t know how long it will take, but I know Mommy loves you so much, she could never forget you.”
Another wet sniff and a shuddering inhale.
“Can you read Animal Daddies and My Daddy?” Abby asks.
Dana waits in the formal sitting room until she hears a heavy sigh and Cal’s footsteps on the stairs. She stands abruptly and he startles, then rubs one hand over his face.
“They’re asleep,” he says, and she recognizes the domestic familiarity of the exchange.
“Cal, I’m sorry—” she starts, and he holds up his hand.
“Don’t do that, Dana. It’s not your fault. They’ll be okay, kids are resilient. And I can see—I know you’re trying.” She nods in agreement, and he gives her a long look. “I’m exhausted, I’m just going to grab a few things from our room and I’ll take the guest bed.”
Our room.
“No, please, I hate to kick you out of your own bedroom,” she says, though she is immediately relieved that he hadn’t been expecting to share a bed with her tonight.
Cal stares at her, and she senses that he is debating whether to say what he’s thinking.
“It’s your room too, Dana,” he points out with pain in his voice.
Dana closes her eyes briefly, wondering if she will stop stepping on landmines anytime soon.
“I know, sorry. I’d just feel more comfortable if I take the guest room, if that’s okay,” she tries.
“Sure,” he aquiesces with a sigh. “Why don’t you go up and grab whatever you need? You can use the kid’s bathroom if you want. Whatever feels…best.”
She slips past him up the stairs and rifles through her own belongings in search of what she needs. Thirty minutes later, she pulls back the covers on the guest bed and tries to get comfortable. She feels wrung out and overtired, but her brain keeps buzzing and buzzing, searching for something to hold on to. Something real.
_
Her hands move through hot, soapy water that nearly reaches her elbows. She feels around for something to wash, green countertops bordering her visual field. She’s comfortable, safe, a little bit excited. She feels like this is a place she’s supposed to be. Music pipes in from somewhere nearby and her hips sway along. Suddenly, someone is right behind her, touching her. Hands slide down her arms and beneath the water, fingers intertwining with hers. She steps back, and begins to turn to face the figure—
“Mommy, I finded the clue!”
Dana sits up with a gasp, her heart pounding in her throat. She scans the room, disoriented. Where is she?
“Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper didn’t find the clue before me!”
She looks to her right and sees Pete, clad in Superman jammies, clutching a stuffed blue dog to his side.
“Hey, Pete,” she croaks, her heart slowing as she places herself. “You found a clue?”
Pete scrambles up onto the bed and climbs under the blankets beside her.
“Yep, I finded the paw print what Blue left and they didn’t even see it. I figured out Blue’s clue cause I’m really really smart,” Pete explains proudly.
Dana looks down at him, tucked comfortably against her side. While she doesn’t remember him per se, she does feel a maternal tug towards his impish disposition and how readily he’s accepted her. She wraps one arm around his shoulder and gives him a half-hug.
“That’s really cool, Pete. Great job,” she says fondly.
“I’m gonna go see the rest,” Pete says, and just as quickly as he arrived, he disappears from the room.
Dana flops back onto the bed and stares at the ceiling. Her dream is already slipping away, and she tries to cling to the details. She was washing dishes, maybe. Someone else was there. It feels like a memory, but she can’t access the rest of it.
He. He was there. Him. She doesn’t know it by any factual measure, but she knows it in her heart. Where is he? Who is he? She wants to find out so badly it hurts.

Yosemite National Park, CA (No. 1)
Mount Dana is a mountain in the U.S. state of California. Its summit marks the eastern boundary of Yosemite National Park and the western boundary of the Ansel Adams Wilderness. At an elevation of 13,061 feet (3,981 m), it is the second highest mountain in Yosemite (after Mount Lyell), and the northernmost summit in the Sierra Nevada which is over 13,000 feet (3,962.4 m) in elevation. Mount Dana is the highest peak in Yosemite that is a simple hike to the summit. The mountain is named in honor of James Dwight Dana, who was a professor of natural history and geology at Yale.
Mount Dana is composed of prebatholithic rock that is mostly reddish metamorphic rock, which was composed by metavolcanics of surfacing magma from the Mesozoic Era.
Mount Dana's northern face includes a small, receding glacier known as the Dana Glacier. The Dana Meadows lie at the foot of the mountain. From the top, lakes throughout Dana Meadows, Mono Lake, Tioga Peak and many other mountains are in view.

Roadside Pullouts Along Tioga Road Are Amazing!

Roadside Pullouts Along Tioga Road Are Amazing! by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pullout along Tioga Road with a view looking to the west to ridges and peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains in this part of Inyo National Forest. Given the haze present in the skies above from nearby wildfires, I decided to compose the image by focusing on the meadow to my front as it led up to ridges and more distant mountains. I later used the ClearView Plus tool in DxO PhotoLab 5 to bring out more of the details present, given that haze, and worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and to make some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

My Mom Reacts To: wheel of time season 1 (this is mostly just a compilation of her commentary, but i do allude to a couple of significant book spoilers in my commentary on her commentary)
names she has called rand: brand, ran, land. she hates that there is one character named rand and another named lan. thankfully she didn’t catch tam’s name or she would’ve lost it.
for a while nynaeve was known only as “the woman who was cleaning the pool”
mom when nynaeve showed up at the end of episode 2: who’s that? me: nynaeve, the wisdom from the village mom: me: you know, that community leader mom: me: [sighing] the woman who was cleaning the pool mom: oh HER
me towards the end of episode 2: [pointing at perrin] what’s his name? mom: i have no idea
she loves egwene’s name because it sounds arthurian and she loves arthurian stuff. she’ll be pumped to find out about elayne, gawyn, galad, and morgase.
20 minutes into episode 1 she was like “there’s too many characters to keep track of” and there were 7 characters. what would she do if confronted by the 2,000 characters in the books.
mom: i’m gonna have to find a list of characters on the internet me: DO NOT GOOGLE ANYTHING RELATED TO WHEEL OF TIME
of course, this is the woman who intentionally googled history spoilers when we were in the middle of watching i medici. do you see where i get it from.
“hmph, i don’t like that he [lan] helped her [moiraine] mount her horse when this is supposed to be a world where women are in power” if THAT bothered her, then boy she would’ve hated the books jfkgh
mom when rand and egwene are kissing: are they gonna die :( me: [shrugs while holding back tears]
haha i think she thought one or both of them was going to be the Innocent Villager Casualty Of The Inciting Incident, she didn’t know they were the main characters! she also thought tam was dead after the trolloc attack, but this is a rare fantasy series where the parents are (mostly) allowed to live.
while nynaeve and egwene are listening to the wind: “now i’ll be scared to go for walks when it’s windy”
that shot of padan fain during the battle: “hmmmmm he doesn’t seem too concerned.............”
mom as the kids are leaving the two rivers after the battle: they must all have pstd! me: ptsd? mom: yes
she’s a little confused but she’s got the spirit!
me, who has never watched prime video on a tv rather than a laptop: i can’t figure out how to skip the recap of the episode we just watched 2 seconds ago mom: no no that’s okay, i need it
moiraine: there are more dangerous things than trollocs in the world mom: [visibly dismayed] i don’t see how THAT can be true
overall she is very concerned with logistics, i.e. how do they get enough to eat while they’re riding all day? did the horses have water to drink when they were camped in shadar logoth? while dana was chatting with rand in his room, who was running the bar? who will run the bar now with dana dead? how did rand get his coat back when he didn’t have it after dana chased him out of the room and then he left right away with thom? a woman after robert jordan’s own heart.
my dad: isn’t there a rope attached to the ferry that they’ll be able to use to get them? lan 1 minute later: [cuts said rope] dad: [approvingly] good
he will seem to be not paying attention and then randomly chime in with a prediction that is totally correct (he also called that dana was being suspiciously welcoming and buttering rand up in order to harm him in some way)
mom roasted rand for a) setting up his sleeping bag by himself away from the rest of the group when there are trollocs after them and b) just falling asleep after seeing moiraine take egwene off alone rather than being worried about egwene. she doesn’t know she needs to cherish rand being able to sleep while it lasts.
what she did not roast rand for: mistrusting moiraine! i was very pleased that she was still suspicious of moiraine despite the show making her the main character and less mysterious than in the books.
[camera shows lan during the manetheren song] mom: [chuckling] i can’t imagine HIM starting to sing
she was devastated by the horse dying in shadar logoth and spent the next two (2) episodes asking me repeatedly if the other horses made it out safely
dad in the 1x03 cold open: i thought they [trollocs] were afraid of water me: only deep water nynaeve: [emerges from the water and kills the trolloc] dad: well, looks like they should be afraid of shallow water too
rand: i thought moiraine was more your speed mom: did...........did he say................moi- me, hastily intervening lest she worry they’re trying to set up matraine: it was just a joke!
mat to rand: you’re the reason we’re in this shit town to begin with mom: well YOU’RE the one who stole that dagger!
she got so mad about mat (and rand) wandering off and touching things in shadar logoth after lan specifically told them not to touch anything
“rand chopped all that wood and mat served 2 drinks! 😤”
mom when the farmer says they’ll have to muck out the stables and the camera cuts to mat: he’s thinking “ugh i have to do WORK?”
i don’t think she’s a big fan of mat so far djfkjgh
oh no actually mat did get some points because when rand was hollering for perrin and egwene my mom was like “he’s gonna draw all the trollocs right to them!” and approved of mat saying the same thing a moment later
she LOVED dana’s bit about the horse trader with no horses, that got her biggest laugh so far. the runner up was nynaeve’s “i said you could ask, not that i’d answer.”
when lan says “stay there” to nynaeve and rides off mysteriously: “he’s gonna kidnap another aes sedai to heal moiraine” honestly he Would
thom to mat: what farmboy from the two rivers has met a trolloc? mom: a lucky one me: [kid with veins popping out as he tries to resist saying something meme]
every time anything even remotely unusual starts to happen she immediately goes “is this a dream????” and 90% of the time it is not a dream, but she’s in the right mindset!
she didn’t like the logain scenes because she thinks he’s “creepy” lmao
mom when the aes sedai are talking about the different color ajahs: oh, like those colorful women in the opening credits! me: [wiping away tears of pride]
haha i definitely am doing with her the same thing i always roast book readers for doing to show-onlys, assuming she won’t understand something but she actually did and explaining something she’d already figured out! in my defense, my mom is very much NOT a fantasy person and typically gets very very confused by many tv shows (she is the person constantly asking questions during the movie jdkfjg). but she did pretty well keeping up with the lore and plot etc, which tells you that the show did a great job making the story accessible for newcomers and casual viewers! all the different names and terminology tripped her up, but the actual concepts, she got pretty solidly.
she went “awwww i liked him :((” when lan was dying, i’m thinking he might be a fav (along with nynaeve, and she seemed invested in rand too especially in the last couple episodes)
post-episode-4 prediction of who is the dragon: either “the girl” (egwene) or “the red-haired boy, land” but not “the other two” (mat and perrin). i tried to get her to consider nynaeve as a candidate but she tossed that idea immediately due to nynaeve being too old. can’t fool her!
we watched the first 4 one night and the second 4 the next night, so before starting i quizzed my mom on names and she immediately called rand “land” AGAIN jkjfg but she got mat and perrin right, and she called egwene something that kinda sounded like egeanin lmao. but rest assured, by the end of the season, she knew rand’s name!
both parents were pressed about how long it should’ve taken rand and mat to reach the city judging by how far away the bridge across the river looked in that aerial shot when they were looking at the mountain, logistical concerns strike again
nynaeve: if i’m as powerful as you say i am, maybe it’s you aes sedai who shouldn’t underestimate me mom: i LIKE her!
she also really liked stepin and was so sad when he died, so take that, stepin subplot haters. it worked for new viewers!
loial is my dad’s favorite character, rightfully so. although he did ask if he was “the shrek of this show” when he first showed up jkjfg
mom when dad was blathering about something during the scene where perrin was telling egwene about laila: [genuinely mad] STOP MAKING SILLY COMMENTS!! THIS IS SERIOUS!!!
me at adult siuan’s entrance: see the tattoos? that’s the little girl from the opening scene, it was a flashback mom: whoa. good thing i have you to explain things
but then in episode 7 she figured out that the cold open was depicting rand’s birth right when tam first had the line to rand about finding a baby in the snow, before it actually went back and finished out the scene
dad, who used to work in local government, during the scene in the hall of the tower: this is just like town meeting
“so if moiraine swore not to return until the amyrlin seat called her back, what happens if someone else becomes amyrlin 🤨” my mom is thinking like an aes sedai! although i then pointed out that moiraine changed the wording to siuan’s name instead. still, good instincts!
egwene: what happens to the ones who aren’t the dragon if they go to the eye? mom: she’s the smart one
“i can’t believe they’re just blindly following moiraine in there. i wouldn’t be getting on this bus!” mat 🤝 my mom
both parents chose rand for their final dragon predictions. i guess he just has Special Chosen One energy despite the show’s best efforts to throw people off the scent haha
my dad’s reasoning was “i don’t like the red-haired one, so it’s probably him” betrayed by my own father! he did not have a reason why he didn’t like rand though lmao
the egwene-loial-rand exchange about loial trying to list things that are worse than falling into a bottomless pit brought the house down djfkg loial is very beloved here
min got quite a few laughs in her various scenes, i'll admit! she does have some good lines
“they’re both big and they both brood” was another hit lmao it’s iconic!
my mom when egwene is the only one arguing in favor of going to the eye just on the smallest chance that doing so could save the world: “she SHOULD be the dragon, she has the highest moral ground”
while lanaeve and randgwene are having their moments: “but poor perrin is all alone :(”
it was getting late but she insisted on watching the last episode because she couldn’t wait a whole day to see what happened, i think we officially have a new WOT fan! at one point she did say “i wish the books weren’t so long, i’d be interested in reading them but i don’t think i can do that” lmao Felt
she kept going “but who IS that guy???” about ishamael and i’d just shrug mysteriously haha i didn’t want to lie and say “it’s the dark one!” but i didn’t want to give away spoilers by saying he WASN’T the dark one. the struggle! i feel all you pre-show readers’ pain now.
at this point my dad had fallen asleep and spent the rest of the episode snoring and drowning out the show and not getting woken up by loud battle noises, so no more commentary from him. dads just be like that.
my mom was SO upset when she thought loial and nynaeve had died, i had to reassure her right away that they weren’t dead rather than saying Watch And Find Out (and loial’s alive status wasn’t confirmed in the episode anyway)
she kept being like “but how are there 14 books???” she really was thinking the eye of the world confrontation would be all there was to it
and then she still asked “does rand just wander forever by himself and go mad?” as if she didn’t know there were 14 books
when it showed The Western Shore she said “oh, this was where ships were disappearing” i was so impressed, man, i barely even remembered that throwaway line!
mom: do rand and egwene get back together? me: i’m not going to spoil you mom: no just tell me i don’t care me: okay. they’ll see each other again but they don’t end up together. mom: [as if i’d dealt her a mortal blow] NO!!!
randgwene shipper #1 i guess awww but she doesn’t even know elayne and aviendha yet! she has no idea what excellent ships are in store!

We should believe women, but we should not believe propaganda masquerading as journalism. This is sloppy misinformation at best and nefarious disinformation at worst.
Notice how quick @CNN's Jake Tapperis to say "Hamas lies all the time", to qualify his mere mention of Hamas.
Ask yourself would Jake or any journalist ever say that about Israel, although it's undeniably true.
It isn't the possibility of rape that should be questioned. It is the pattern of baseless propaganda being parroted and paraded as truth despite mounting evidence discrediting the claims.
The pattern is clear.
Maybe what isn't fully yet is the why behind WHY the NYT and CNN are doing it?
Well, in this clip, Jake Tapper is providing PR support for Israel's genocidal war in Gaza by interviewing Raz Cohen, an ex Israeli soldier who trains Congolese troops multiple times. and has changed his testimony
Did the New York Times take into account that certain quoted witnesses altered aspects of their testimonies or had previously made false allegations?
How might these changes or past inaccuracies affect the credibility of their statements in the current context?
Was there a background check performed on the interviewees?
Sapir is another witness who describes militants allegedly raping & stabbing 2 women to death.
But she also said elsewhere the victim was shot in the head in the middle of the act of rape "he didn't even pick up his pants"
Did NYT consider if there was a conflict of interests, between the many different witnesses and each of their different claims?
This is less about casting doubt on the possibility of rape, and more to wonder why the media is so sloppy and false?
Is this misinformation or disinformation?
Why do Jake Tapper and Dana Bash sound so convinced and outraged and eager to report these "angry screaming" Palestinian men raping, but when the US State Dept confirms rape of Palestinian children as Josh Paul explains, by an NGO, why are those stories missing or reported with the same fervor?

Dana Terrace recently posted this on her Blue Sky.
Tumblr media
Seems she prefers to do a new project over an Owl House revival and prefers to do adult stuff over kids. Thoughts?
I.. can't blame her. The show had a satisfying conclusion that ended in a way she can come back to it when and however she wants IF disney is ever intrested. I can't blame her for wanting to do a new show instead at a network that probably won't screw her over, or even going indy, as Godspeed has more than proven a creator who was badly screwed over can mount a comeback on their own. Dana can easily write her own ticket for whatever the hell she wants to do next, and I support that. I'd rather have her return to the owl house someday when she WANTS to and give us something else that kicks ass instead.
