Steller Peanut Bandit!! by Debbie Meader Via Flickr: A Steller's Jay grabbing two whole Peanuts in one trip! The STJA swallowed one in his gular pouch and picked up another in his beak. The Steller's Jays will store a cache of nuts and seeds to help them get through Winter.

A Shortie vs. Peregrine Falcon!
flickr
A Shortie vs. Peregrine Falcon! by Debbie Meader Via Flickr: As the sun was just dipping below the horizon, there was some action above our heads! I was very surprised to see an incoming Peregrine Falcon attempting to take on a Short-eared Owl. The Shortie flipped upside down and opened his talons to protect himself. Photo taken at Shillapoo Lake, Vancouver, Washington.

Where did all the birds go??
flickr
Where did all the birds go?? by Debbie Meader Via Flickr: All of the birds that were feeding in our yard took flight or cover from the Juvenile Cooper's Hawk! The Coop landed on our railing for a brief rest on a very foggy morning. It was very queit with no birds singing or chattering, until the Coop left the area!

Clash of the Titans!!!
flickr
Clash of the Titans!!! by Debbie Meader Via Flickr: Miss Penelope, one of our female resident Anna’s Hummingbird is challenging the female Rufous Hummingbird perched in her favorite spot! After our Yucca Plants bloom, I leave a few of the stalks in our yard as the Hummingbirds love to perch on them. The feisty little Rufous chased Miss Penelope around the yard for about a minute. I had to laugh as they each perched on different stalks about 100 feet apart from each other, no one was on the favorite perch!

Japan’s cherry blossoms usually get all the attention for their short-lived beauty. But equally ephemeral are Japan’s Nemophila, or Baby Blue Eyes. And once a year, around late April to Early May, an astounding sea of 4.5 million of these little flowers cover the land for a little over a week at Hitachi Seaside Park located on the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture.
