the isekai/transmigration genre really has progressed to the point where the main character can just say, "ah I've been transported into another universe haven't I?" and make this realization on their own within the first 12min of an episode

remember when kyou kara maoh came out and isekai wasn't an established genre with its own set of tropes yet and the main character had to go through other theories (such as: he was kidnapped into an elaborate amusement park where everyone is just a really good actor)

soooo has anyone thought of a mdzs x svsss transmigration au with shen jiu and meng yao?

i’m not going into detail over their similarities but most people get the idea— brothels, yqy/lxc, spite, villainous antagonists that didn’t deserve what they were put through as a child, late start in cultivation, cunning personality, etc etc

yea.

let me start: shen jiu, one day, is gifted a high quality book set from one of his brothel jiejies when visiting them. at first, shen jiu had no plans to legitimately read them (mostly due to a lack of leisure time), but he eventually got to reading it when he was on a qian cao-mandated break after a qi deviation.

he gets hooked. when SJ is nearing the end of the novel, his thoughts are as followed: JGS deserved to get castrated and his limbs thrown to the endless abyss— WWX, although he was absolutely shameless, he was at least competent— LWJ was a fool for being so in love, but he was moral and loyal— and lan xichen…

an ache forms in shen jiu’s heart whenever he thinks about him. lxc, a man with a gentle, pacifistic, amiable personality who believed in what was right all the way until the end. he wholeheartedly supported and trusted his sworn brother, jin guangyao, until he couldn’t anymore.

shen jiu was touched. lan xichen, that man, had wasted all his efforts on an irredeemable monster. in a similar fashion, yue qingyuan was doing the same.

as for meng yao… shen jiu resented him. he had a loving mother, one who worked so hard for his happiness, only to squander all her efforts. meng yao… had what shen jiu envied the most in the newest disciple he just brought in. luo binghe. imo, it would be a clear sign of shen jiu’s self hatred projected onto meng yao. he sees the two of them as the hopeless scum of society, too broken to be loved. they were “charity cases” that couldn’t be fixed, no matter what.

soon after shen jiu finishes the novel, he falls into a qi deviation (the very same one that shen yuan transmigrated into) and dies. through some time space dimension jumping, shen jiu lands into the body of one 14 yo meng yao. and that’s just the beginning of his story.

shen jiu starts out by practicing cultivation in secret. meng yao’s body, although he is no prodigy, would definitely benefit from practicing from a younger age. then he gets to planning. with how shen jiu is, he would not step a foot in the karp tower, with a system or not. like, just no. i believe he’d set JGS on fire if he ever had to see the guy. the only plot point shen jiu intends on fulfilling is saving lan xichen, and then living a comfortable life away from the jianghu.

but within a year of living with meng shi in the brothel, shen jiu grows attached to her. he *wants* to make her proud, even if he wasn’t her real son. he was a total impostor. but even so, he didn’t want her legacy to be tainted by the actions of jin guangyao— who was now still meng yao, who is now shen jiu. but he doesn’t want to go to the jin sect. after an arduous process of actual communication with someone for a long time, meng shi realizes that the jin sect wouldn’t be good for her son, and jin guangshan wouldn’t help her *or* meng yao. the night before meng shi dies, she tells shen jiu that she loves him, regardless of whether he may fulfill her dreams.

aaaand, after that, shen jiu buries meng shi. he makes enough money as an artist (in secret, with his skillset from qing jing) to give her the proper burial rites. after that, he runs away. shen jiu finds a job as an assistant to an artist who sold fans and paintings in caiyi town. through his job, he meets NHS first, when he’s on his first year of being st the cloud recesses. surprisingly, shen jiu and nie huaisang have a friendship that… isn’t too bad. shen jiu is amiable, shows off the different fans he’s painted, and nie huaisang eagerly buys all of them. nie huaisang also buys out shen jiu’s other works, like his poetry and short stories. that day, with shen jiu’s qiankun pouch full, he treats himself to tanghulu.

the second encounter with nie huaisang brought along jiang cheng and wei wuxian. at that point in time, they were investigating the waterborne abyss problem. shen jiu, a year older now, shows nie huaisang his “new” invention: the war fan. wei wuxian is absolutely delighted at the new invention, and jiang cheng, although less excited that WWX, is considerably impressed as well. as for NHS, well, words can’t describe his happiness. shen jiu, on a whim, gifts it to him for free— mockingly thanking NHS for being such a generous patron. nie huaisang, unable to contain his excitement anymore, jumps on shen jiu and embraces him dramatically. this causes such a commotion, lan wangji comes over. with his brother.

I think I made the list before but I can't find it. So I made a new one since I just finished reading Beidou/the Plough

The Slow Burn romance is really slow but I love every single little bits of relationship development in every ship so far. Also the payoff is so good! I also love the banter in every one of her books. Very satisfying to read!

Tsundere shou! ( Not always but I think Shen Qiao, Tang Fan, Cui Buqu are these types and also Ling Shu to a certain degree) Though they're under the same category, they're portrayed as very different in personalities and I can't get enough of them. Their respective gong are also very unique and cunning in their own way when it comes to making the shou admit their feelings!

Cross dressings! Hilarity ensues!

Solving mysteries! be it crime investigation, treasure hunting, political machinations, unmasking evil cult or even ruining evil cultivators plan to rule the world etc.

Strong women side characters. Also if they're among the very beautiful then they usually are either evil and end up dead or they find a way out of their predicament on their own.

Spoiler alert: the betrayal! We need at least one scene of either true betrayal (looking at you, Yan Wushi!) or it was just an act (Peerless, the Plough) or qi deviation (Shen Shang)

The last few chapters at least one or both of the main characters fight to the brink of death and yeah their love for each other is reaffirmed because of this but...that's not the true ending though! Go read that in the extras!

I've read 5 series of hers so far and I like them all very much.

I do not consider myself a cook, but I do know that cooking can be considered a survival skill because obviously food is essential.

And so, as I am in my early 30s... it is rather embarrassing that I find myself nervous of my cluelessness whenever aunts ask me to come help them prepare food in the kitchen during family gatherings.

Therefore, I have decided to attempt to learn the art of cooking!

This secondary blog will henceforth be a reflection of that attempt and the adventures I make herein! :)

That being said, this blog will mostly be about the recipes I have come across and attempted. So more of instructions and simple photos rather than blogging itself, most likely. And lots of quick notes about easy cooking stuff too. But, we'll see how it goes ;)

PS. I also post other related content on my TikTok and Twitter accounts.

PPS. As of January 17, 2024, I will also be posting my favorite chocolates and to-go food options from various restaurant menus. This blog will therefore be known as my personal food blog from here on out! :)

I’ve just started reading Thousand Autumns/qianqiu and I posted my first meta a few weeks ago on Twitter.

THE TITLE; Thousand Autumns

Thousand Autumns is a really nice and poetic name, but term 千秋 has three meanings. The first is, a long time, the second is a thousand years (lol it’s pretty similar to the first) and the last meaning is an elderly man’s birthday lmao (I think this is probably the least relevant meaning? 😅) . (The term’s drives from the poem “With Su Wu” written by an anonymous post but I’ll come back to it only if it becomes relevant when I read more haha.

Personally, the title reminded me of the idiom 各有千秋 when I first watched the donghua. This term means everything has its merits and strengths, which I thought was particularly fitting since Shen Qian and Yan Wushi are uh, very different lol

🐥HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Thanks to Meng Xi Shi’s amazing world building, it’s pretty obvious which period Thousand Autumns was situated in just from Chapter 1 alone. (Still, this is a fictional wuxia novel so please take this with a pinch of salt)

“After Yan Wushi’s entered seclusion

In Chapter 1, Yu Shengyu says, “Shortly after your retreat, Gao Wei, the new emperor of Qi Country, ascended the throne. (…) In ten years, Qi Country's national strength has declined sharply. The (Northern) Zhou Dynasty Emperor Yuwen Yong (aka Emperor Wu of Northen Zhou) is planning to attack Qi, I am afraid that the North will be annexed by Zhou State soon." ” (MTL by yours truly)

🦄 My Commentary:

Northern Qi was an imperial dynasty that ruled from 550-557AD. And as the novel says, it was eventually conquered by the, Northern Zhou Dynasty (the Northern Qi was particularly corrupt and the Emperor Yuwen Yong had been plotting it for sometime). This paragraph effectively puts the novel in the Northern and Southern Dynasty (420-589AD).

And lol, THIS is what I really love. Meng Xi Shi explains why Northern Qi was so corrupted in relation to the novel.

Chapter 2 (EDITED MTL)

“The Gao Family (Gao Wei’s family) of the Qi Country was absurd, and the emperors loved to be close to the demonic clans . Under Gaowei’s rule, he got very close to the Hehuan Zong, and the Hehuan Zong also grew in power in the Qi State”

🦄 My commentary

OKAY I LOVE THIS. If you’re familiar with the story, you’d know by now that there are 3 demonic sects - Huanye, Hehuan and Fajing. Lets now focus on the meaning of 和欢 (Hehuan). It doooooes mean happiness/harmony but tbh, it’s usually used to describe people fucking around LOL She’s basically implying that the Qi Country fell because its people were fucking around too much lol

Xichen tried to not give up. Coffee and energetic drinks weren't working anymore. He wondered why his didi and his (twice?) brother-in-law got cute sweet children like a-Yuan and tiny romantic Zizhen, meanwhile he got Jingyi and a-Ling. Just one of them was enough to make him keep the two eyes very open, but the two, together… a true nightmare. A-Ling would fight over his jiujiu's attention - against Jingyi AND against Xichen. And Jingyi would fight back because… well, because he was who he was: the less Lan of all Lans.

LXC: Sometimes I wonder if there's any chance of Jingyi being actually a Nie changed at birth…

JC: Sometimes I wonder HOW Wei Wuxian managed to raise such a calm son while a-jie's child is… this full-time upset baby Peacock…

JL: A-Ling is not a peacock!

JC: Your dad is a Peacock, and so are you.

JL: Mean jiujiu!

LXC: Wanyin, making them cry won't help…

JC: Helps me to get my revenge for what they've done to us.

LXC: They're just small babies… we have to love them.

JC: I love my peacock nephew.

JL: A-Ling is going to tell everything to xiaoshushu!

JC: Just like you, he's not a big thing.

LJY: Jin Ling is a coward!

JL: And you are what??

LJY: I'm a fucking badass NIE!

Next time they'd have to babysit, Jingyi definitely would stay with Mingjue and a-Yao, even at risk of learning at least five more bad words and cursing to Lan Qiren's horror.

It's been a while since my hand tremors returned and it's been rare for me to feel like painting - especially since I've lost a lot of motivation since Traditional Art has become underrated in light of digital art.

But then this wonderful Guardian fic by @the-marron left me overly emotional and I can't get out of my head everything I felt while reading.

So, Marron, a quick painting of someone who wished he had the talent to convey your impeccable writing on a canvas, but really just has a lot of feelings.

Fun fact: it's the first time in over twenty years of being part of fandoms that I've tried to paint something for someone else's fic.
