How about a mini car with a midship and a gull wing door
Autozam AZ-1
by Mitsuhiro Kunisawa Komiya
IIt's a different dimension sport!
A cute AZ-1 popped out onto the street. What kind of car is the AZ-1, which has been boiled down since the motor show three years ago? This time, I immediately checked it on a public road test drive. This is the AZ-1!
Controllable cornering power
The AZ-1, which made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show three years ago and received tremendous support along with the cherry blossom cappuccino of the same year, was finally announced as the AZ550). One year late for cappuccino!
Let's leave the explanations for later and take a test ride! I want you to think that the stage is the winding road of Hakone. The first check item is, after all, handling. First of all, instead of saying hello, I jumped into the corner with full throttle!
Then, how about it! When you release the accelerator with "Bang!" I was surprised, and at the same time, I was a little happy, saying, "Oh, I didn't escape from midship!"
After all, the comfort of a mid-engined car is that "when you turn the steering wheel, the direction of the car changes immediately." However, it is easy to exceed the sensitivity limit by doing so, so the response is usually dulled. Some cars, like the Beat, are running away from the start.
Let me explain a little more about the handling of the AZ-1. First of all, it is cornering within the limit, but it is straightforward from approach to exit. Lateral G occurs immediately when the steering wheel is turned. smoothly after.
The engine adopted for the mid is a water-cooled 3-cylinder DOHC turbo with an intercooler that squeezes out 64 horsepower.
There is enough space for a dedicated bag at the front. Well, it can fit tools and rags.
Sufficient in power. I need a little more torque for climbing, but if it's a 660cc, it might be something like this...
If you operate the steering wheel and turn on the power, you can throw in and fast out like a textbook. What if we speed it up? Understeer appears as you gradually increase the speed of entering the corner. However, this is a characteristic common to all midship cars.
Of course there is understeer, but that is not the limit yet. A well-set midship is the highlight of the Ude from here. Then, what should I do?
Use motion to increase cornering speed.
For example, when entering a corner, leave the brake slightly and shift the load to the front wheels while turning the steering wheel. By doing so, the grip of the front wheel is improved, and the underside is eliminated. At the same time, the rear is flowing, so the car changes direction.
So, if you apply a moderate amount of power to the rear that has started to flow, it will start to slide, so you can adjust the amount of flow with the accelerator control from here. If you use this according to the size of the corner, it will be a higher level corner.
The dimensions that a ring can be made. For beats, the progress of corners
The rear does not flow when entering. before that
Sloppy front wheel slipping out
It will flow to the top side. The reason why Beat escaped from handling is that midship setting is very difficult. Since the mid-engined car distributes more weight to the rear wheels than to the front wheels, if you overdo it in the corners, the rear wheels will eventually drift and you will lose control.
Even the NSX and Ferrari 348 become difficult to control when pushed to the limit. Honda knows this, so they made it impossible for the car to turn at a low level.
AZ-1 is good when you go there. At the entrance of the corner, if you turn the steering wheel with a “Hishitsu!”, the tail will flow easily. Moreover, the range of control is very wide.
The counter is a piece of cake. The NSX and Ferrari 348 do not accept the control when the tail drifts only a little. It can be said that the control range of AZ 1 is close to FR.
I can do it, but that level
I'm afraid without it. After all, while cornering on a downhill or something like that, when I hit the brakes with a feeling like, “Ah! If it's someone who can hit the counter, it's fine, but if it's an older brother who's practicing, I think it's a bit dangerous.
Moreover, as the speed increases, the suspension becomes softer. I have no worries up to 60km/h, which is the speed limit on mountain passes in Japan, but if you want to go beyond that, it might be better to go a little harder. Also, the roll is large. If the K car rolls to this extent, there is a possibility that it will fall over.
Well, if you enjoy gymkhana and circuit driving, you need to attach shocks that are commensurate with the hardness. Recently, it's been popular to do time attacks on kart circuits, but if you try to do something like the style of riding a hotch-running curb on a normal suspension, it's better to think that you'll fail first.
what about the engine? Magazines often say, "3-cylinder twin-cam turbo similar to cappuccino," but to be precise, it's a mistake. The 3-cylinder installed in the Cappuccino is vertically mounted and has undergone a large modification for FR. The AZ-1 is mid-shipped in the same state as the FF Alto Works,
It's a different engine than a cappuccino!
Well, the handling of the AZ-1 is really good, but sometimes it's not. If you have a certain amount of arm, you can freely hit the counter and run around.
The ring is also different from cappuccino.
The Cappuccino engine vibrates a lot below 2000 rpm, but the AZ-1 doesn't vibrate until near idling. In terms of engine characteristics, the AZ-1 has a higher rotation. Cappuccino emphasizes the low and medium speed range.
In any case, it seems that the power is sufficient, and if the tachometer needle is between 3000 and 7000 rpm, you can fully enjoy the thick torque unique to the turbo. Without limiter, surely 1
It will go around 80km/h. So how do I rate this car? As those of you who know me know, I have a beat and a cappuccino. Therefore, when it comes to comparison with the AZ-1, I think we are the most detailed in the world.
First of all, personally, I passed! It's narrow. Surprisingly, the beat has a lot of front-to-rear length, and even 183cm is fine. The cappuccino has both tilt and telescope.
The AZ-1 has a narrow front-to-rear length, which makes the legs cramped. In addition, if the handle is fixed, you can't help it. I'm sure there will be complaints after 175cm.
I don't think gull wing doors are more valuable than open bodies to me. The Benz 300SL may be a dream for the Yujiro Ishihara generation, who admired it, but it would be better if the roof could be taken off.
As such, the AZ-1 is unlikely to be a third collection, unfortunately. By the way, regarding the order status, unlike Beat and Cappuccino, which had to wait half a year before their debut, it has started as usual.
The tail can come out, but it feels like it's coming out slowly.
I really want to wear aluminum too. This price is ¥28,000(for one)
I would love to have the audio as well This is a woofer. Price 176,500 yen
★Manufacturer option, 4W-ABS (80,000 yen) ★Shop option LSD (79,000 yen)
COMPARISON BOX TRANSLATION
Where is the difference with rivals
This means that three 2-seater light sports cars have been released. Let's take a look at the difference between these three. First is the price. AZ-1 is 1.498 million yen, Beat is ¥1,388,000, and a cappuccino ¥1,458,000. AZ-1 is audio, no aluminum. The beat is aluminum-free. All cappuccinos are standard. If the AZ-1 were equipped with the same equipment as the Cappuccino, it would cost about 200,000 yen more. Simply considering the price, cappuccino comes out on top in terms of cost value.
However, the added value cannot be overlooked. The beat is fully open. Cappuccino is T bar, Targa open. AZ-1 is a gull wing door. Considering that opening is natural, AZ-1's gull wing door might be good. Quietness is also good for Danchi. Passengers can speak in a normal voice even on the highway. Beats can't even talk to Roku.
Full test in next issue
schedule. AZ-1 is cappuccino,
Hit the beat or catch up.
Please look forward to the next issue. (Editorial department)

Autozam AZ-1 "F40," 2024, by Liberty Walk. For this year's Tokyo Auto Salon the Japanese Tuner have revealed a bodykit for the Mazda/Autozam AZ-1 that takes inspiration from the Ferrari F40. The kit costs $22,660, and the wheels are an additional $14,300 and of course you need an AZ-1 donor car.

First version of the GReddyVI-AZ-1. This is the red version. This was later rebuilt as the white version. Pics from my book by Amemiya san. Translated text below by google with some corrections by myself.
Dream Mine Another dream machine! The compact monster is also my starting point!
GReddyVI-AZ-1 1996 Tokyo Auto Salon Domestic Complete Car Category Excellence Award
The GReddy series so far has been based on FC and FD but the body size is wider
It has turned into a monster.
However, this year, as I entered my last year in my 40s, I looked back on my tuning life up to that point, returned to my roots, and wanted to take on a new challenge. .
My starting point is a machine with tremendous power hidden in a compact body, and I wish I could tear apart a Porsche or Ferrari class hyper sports car from the outside! I wanted to revive the pleasure I experienced with Chante and Cervo.
The original gullwing used in the GReddy7-IIi, IV, and V is of course satisfactory in terms of construction and design, but it is still
PIC CAPTIONS (first pic)
A body that has originality in each part and incorporates every possible idea that is unique to the street and not found in racing cars.
2ND PAGE
The quality of the gullwings made by Kerr is high in terms of their high degree of perfection and durability. As expected, I have no choice but to say. Therefore, as I am particular about gullwings, I chose the AZ-1 as the base car, which I had been eyeing since it was first released. Sera's Gullwing was also a candidate, but I chose the AZ-1 because the shape of the windshield matched the image.
Although it is based on the AZ-1, only the door structure, roof, windshield, and some interior parts remain. Of course, the engine was replaced with a rotary one, and production began by making everything completely complete, from the body to the frame and suspension structure!
Since it's a K-sized car, I wanted to keep it as compact as possible by keeping it within the same size as the 80 Supra, with 20cms wider on each side, making the body as compact as possible but to allow Air to the 3 rotors loaded in the mid position.
PIC CAPTIONS
It is also my passion to not attach wings and to make it an integral part of the body. The rear of the bumper has a mesh pattern to vent air.
3RD PAGE
When it came to the body design, things like introduction, securing downforce, etc., ideas kept coming to me, and it was difficult but fun to turn them into reality.
The chassis and suspension took a lot of time and the know-how gained from participating in races. It is also meant to strengthen the body in order to obtain official approval, and it is stretched to the point where it can be called a pipe frame specification. The suspension has also been set up with an emphasis on handling so that it can ride smoothly around the bay. The locking arm type double wishbone has a stroke of 50mm compared to the standard 140mm. Well, as for ``how about actually driving it?'', it's a pity that I haven't been able to test it out since it hasn't been officially approved yet.
The important engine is a 3-rotor side port specification that uses the eccentric shaft and rotor housing for 20B, and connects three rotors for 13B.
PIC CAPTIONS
The mid-mounted engine is a 3-rotor using a 13B rotor. We also considered the weight balance and carefully determined the positioning.
4TH PAGE
The turbine is T78-33D, and it squeezes out about 500ps with a boost of 1.1k. However, this is also not set to the highest speed, but rather to focus on acceleration up to 300km/h by improving mid- to low-speed response. At first, I thought about having an NA like the GT, but since it's a mid-engine car, the sound would get really noisy, so after thinking about it a lot, I decided on a turbo version.
Actually, this car. I won the Excellence Award, but I missed out on the Grand Prix. Why? I heard from Dai-chan and other judges that it was because we were late for the delivery time! If the item is not delivered within the specified time, it will not be subject to inspection. However, I'm grateful that they decided to at least give me the Excellence Award because it's so amazing. I didn't create it just to win an award, but when I think about how it could have won the Grand Prix, I was a little disappointed. I was just so disgusted.

might be a bit of a boring question but how do you feel about the Mazda b series? and if you have nothing to say about that one then I'd love to hear your thoughts on the tacoma
So thoughtful of you to give me a backup question, but worry not! If I've got nothing to say about a car, I will find it, goddamnit, if it'll take me two months! Which it very nearly did. Sorry. Anyhow! In reverse order of generations:
1. 5th
Tumblr media
it would take state-backed effort to get me to care for -hell, care about- this last one, which did not excel in looks nor performance nor, from what I can tell, reliability nor comfort. It feels like it would be a very complex thought experiment to come up with the buyer this would be the best choice for, even in its time. (However, while the enthusiasts' metric of evaluation is competition, the owners' metric is their own expectations, so it is certain and valid and good that millions of owners were chuffed about their purchase and I love that for them and do not whatsoever seek to rain on their parade.)
2. 4th
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neat! Even beyond the spectacular decals, I just love Japanese pickups of this era (the ones yankees call "small pickups" and we call "pickups" because we don't have those useless fuck-off-gargantuan shit yankees love to pretend has any use). So much so that I want two of them. Neither are this (they're the Toyota Hilux and the Nissan D21), but objectively they're all about the same and my preferences are purely based on aesthetic minutiae.
3. 3rd
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First I see of it! The front is kind of unfortunate, but it reminds me of the Yugo so it's on my good side. The rear taillights also have a kind of Soviet quality to them, I'm sure there's some -az car with rear lights just like those.
4. 2nd
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HELL FUCKING YEAH *checks pronouns* SISTER! I love this thing. Especially the REPU, where PU stands for Pick Up and RE stands for...
Tumblr media
Yep :D, this was the time when Mazda was shoving rotaries left and right into applications they were comically unsuited for absolutely no discernible reason, and we're all glad that they did, because Lord knows no one else had the lack of sense to do it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes the ROTARY POWER* on the back of it is factory! *BITCHES
5. 1st
Tumblr media
Yeah, this is at the edge of car period that excites me. Not that I think it looks bad or is bad or anything, it just starts to feel too... historic for me to connect to? I guess a Mazda pickup from the early '60s is just not for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems I guessed wrong.
This Ghibli-esque little thing is the 1959 Mazda K360, being a kei truck with the then maximum of 360cc of engine. It was a popular taxi (taxi!) in Myanmar...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...where it kept being produced until the early '70s, when it got replaced by the other other truck Mazda was making by the early '60s, the B360.
Tumblr media
Wow I really was wrong there huh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These were probably a sort of "Eastern Europe getting Fiat's scraps" kind of deal, since while these were manufactured in Myanmar from '72 to the mid-90s (mid-90s!), by 1972 Japan had already long been getting the B360's replacement i.e. the Mazda Porter, which OOOO0000°°°°°ººººº⁰⁰⁰⁰⁰⁰⁰ my GOOOOOODDDD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OMGOMGOMG THIS IS THE CUTEST THING IN THE WORLD
Tumblr media
I don't even want to own one of these, I want to cuddle it. I want to protect it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OMG THIS ONE HAS TINY LITTLE HAYASHIS WITH TINY LITTLE LETTERING ON ITS TINY LITTLE TIRES
Tumblr media
*faints* *a feeble, wiggly speech bubble appears from below the table* Tacoma's good btw. Best of segment by miles.

Sok egyéb részlet a hirdetésben.
Reblogokért küldöm az áldást! Ha meg is veszed akkor meg majd megegyezünk ;)

1998 Suzuki Wagon R (Wolfgang's Garage #2)
[Drawn: September,6th,2023 // Progress: September,2nd - September,6th,2023]
The Suzuki Wagon R is the name of a japanese kei car that has been manufactured by Suzuki since 1993. The gen 1 Wagon R was produced from 1993 until 1998 and was also sold under the rebadged names Mazda AZ Wagon and Autozam AZ Wagon.
It is based on the Wagon R+, a 5-door Wagon R produced from 1997 until 2000. This version is larger than a standard Wagon R aside from spotting a roof rack and a different grille and vent design. It was an attempt at drawing a kei car. Its later 2nd generation would achieve notoriety through the video game series Gran Turismo. It has been the current best-selling vehicle in the japanese market for 20 years.
In my universe, it is a vehicle owned by Wolfgang. This used Wagon R is noted for not having one of the best handlings due to its small wheels, has a lower adherence, mediocre braking and an average acceleration. Due to the fact that it's a kei car, there is a chance of a fatal collision, mainly if driving in an intense high speed but does maintain an ok durability. However, there is a mild-to-moderate possibility of overturning due to its boxy appearance.
At least, it is not as slower than any city car he has owned and in terms of production quality.
The kanji on its custom paint job means speed in japanese.

The Unicorn Triple Rotor AZ-1 by RE Amemiya and GReddy.
Unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon in 1996, RE Amemiya showed this one of a kind, heavily modified kei car. Most people know RE Amemiya from their work with Mazdas and rotary engines but Autozam technically was a Mazda. During their economic boom in the 90’s Mazda developed a handful of brands that served different purposes and Autozam was their kei car line.
This little compact kei was not to be messed with though, weighing just under 2,500 lbs, the car was powered by a 20b triple rotor engine pushing 400 hp. The car utilized brakes from a Ferrari F40, transmission from a Porsche 962C, and Bilstein parts throughout. The only original parts from the AZ-1 were the iconic gullwing doors. Only one of these cars was ever made, originally painted red before it was sold and repainted white by the new owner.
