Today We Honor Marvin Gaye The magnitude of Marvin Gaye’s influence on R&B and soul music continues to influence and inspire singers and songwriters today. “Let’s Get It On” is considered one of the top romance songs of all time. “Sexual Healing” reached #3 on the Billboard singles pop charts, spent a staggering ten weeks at number one on the R & B charts, and won two Grammy Awards in 1982 for Best R & B Vocal Performance and Best R & B Instrumental. “What’s Going On” is listed as the fourth greatest song of all time in 2004 by Rolling Stone Magazine. The inspiration for the song came from Gaye’s brother Frankie, who told him stories of his service during the Vietnam War. The list goes on and on… One of the most talented artists in the history of music. Part 2/2 of soft SamSteve cuddles for @sammy-souffle
I come up hard baby, but now I'm cool
I didn't make it sugar, playin' by the rules
I come up hard baby, but now I'm fine
I'm checkin' trouble sugar, movin' down the line
I come up hard baby, but that's okay
'Cause Trouble Man, don't get in my way
Steve wasn’t sure if it was the soft sunlight on his skin or the subtle music playing that woke him up, but he couldn’t have been happier to wake up to the sight of his husband humming under his breath as he slid across the small kitchen in their studio apartment, singing softly and cooking an aromatic breakfast.
I come up hard baby, I've been for real, baby
Gonna keep movin', gonna go to town
I come up hard, I come up gettin' down
There's only three things that's for sure
Taxes, death and trouble, oh
Laying there for a little while, just watching Sam with the smallest smile on his face, he was finally caught. His beautiful man, stripped of his shirt and his sweatpants riding low enough to show he hadn’t been wearing anything underneath, sauntered over to the bed, still singing.
This I know, baby, this I know, sugar
Girl, ain't gon' let it sweat me, babe
Steve’s laughter filled the small space when Sam sang at him, having thrown the spatula aside as he took Steve’s face in his hands, leaning in for a soft kiss. He caught himself humming the familiar tune along with Sam, hands gentle wherever on Sam’s body they could reach.
These lazy mornings were what Steve kept fighting for. The days he ended up pulling Sam into his arms and kissing him over and over again, making sure the stove was turned off before he pulled him underneath the warm covers.
Sometimes they’d start the morning with more than just kisses and in less than their clothes. Other times, they’d just kiss and laugh together until Sam complained about their breakfast going cold. No matter how or when their mornings started, they always ended in each other’s arms.
I wrote this a while ago but never got around to posting it. What better time than half asleep in the middle of two finals? I hope you guys enjoy this :)

Marvin Gaye "Every Great Motown Hit of..." LP. Another one of my old man's records. A few years ago I was going through stock in the basement and found a small pile of his stuff I didn't want to sell since he'd died for one reason or another. This one was just because it's a solid compilation. For some reason me and Marvin have never really clicked. I think he had a great voice and none of his hits rub me the wrong way but I don't love him like most people do. On the other hand, I have nothing bad t9 say about the fella either. I guess I just don't appreciate his songwriting and/or voice as much as most other people? Regardless, this collection is very enjoyable. It sounds great and flows well. Since this was my old man's and a one-owner LP, it's basically mint which makes the playback even more enjoyable. I gotta say, the four songs with Tammi Terrell are my favorites. They made a great duo. #LP #Vinyl #Records #MarvinGaye #EveryGreatMotownHitOf #TammiTerrell #Motown #Soul https://www.instagram.com/p/Civdj_jufTg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Stays Krunchy in Milk Episode 533: Chinchilla Everywhere
Eclipse Prep had Tee on pins and needles. What celebrity would you want to hang out with? Women’s basketball is on fire and that is very dope. Ant had a poor customer service experience at a spot that’s usually all vibes. Ant also had a good volunteer experience. Tee catches you up on him and his including his now blind senior dog.  before the gang discusses our Easter experiences including us learning of Pineapple Casserole. We then of course head to Reddit for AITA before going into our entertainment recommendations for the week including a review in progress of Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter album. We’ll see you again soon.
Thanks,
Team SKiM

#MarvinGaye - my favorite musical artist of all time - was born 85 years ago today (April 2, 1939).
Gifted, flawed, spiritual, tormented, beautiful...

#OnThisDay in 1939, singer Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr. was born. The Washington, D.C. native developed an early love of music through the church, and by the 1960s came to be known as the #PrinceofSoul.
The son of a Hebrew Pentecostal minister, it was the Pentecostal Church that served as the context of his faith formation and creative musical genius. Gaye mastered the piano and drums as a child and caught the attention of Motown founder Berry Gordy, who hired him as a session drummer for the label working on songs for Stevie Wonder and The Supremes. Under the label, Gaye would enjoy a steady string of hits including “Stubborn Kinda Fellow” (1962), “I’ll Be Doggone” (1965), and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” (1968). As a major Motown artist, Gaye is credited as one of the sonic architects responsible for creating the label’s distinctive sound.
Described by Ebony as “intensely spiritual, almost mystical,” and seemingly in “pursuit of some ethereal other world” because of his preoccupation with religion and sexuality, Marvin Gaye’s artistry further complicated conventional notions of the holy and the profane. Alongside the strong religious and sexual sensibilities evidenced in later songs such as “Sexual Healing,” “Sanctified Lady,” and “Let’s Get It On,” Gaye’s 11th album, What’s Going On, is acclaimed for the socially conscious quality of his lyrical content. Themes explored on the album include an anti-war critique, ecology, love, sensuality, and community, all informed by his formative Hebraic-Pentecostal worldview.
