Reflections on the clickbait era — and the way worse one that's coming next:

Last week, an AI-generated image of an explosion near the Pentagon went viral on social media, briefly spooking the stock market. According the Bloomberg, the S&P 500 dipped by 0.3% in the minutes before the image was debunked, making the incident “possibly the first instance of an AI-generated image moving the market.”

What went unmentioned was that creating such an image has been trivial for decades. The AI technology that really made stocks flutter was the social media algorithms that showed the image to so many, so fast.

i remember literally being in the shopping mall and my sister was like go on twitter rn. and saw everything and heard the audio there and i swear my heart literally dropped and then her dad’s statement came out and i was like wtf

Unreal. I literally can't believe this actually happened.

So I was scrolling through Pinterest on my phone and set it down to go take care of the dishes. I come back and my cat is laying on my phone. Whatever, nothing new. When I picked my phone up I saw it was open to iFunny on the play store and figured there was an ad for it somewhere on my screen when I left and my cat accidentally clicked on it when his ear touched the screen. I backed out and went back to pinterest. But there's more! That was half an hour ago and just now as I was going to my texts, I see iFunny on my damn home screen!

Somehow, my cat DOWNLOADED a whole app to my phone and I didn't even notice! And it's so ridiculous that anybody reading this probably doesn't believe it! Like when Kim Kardashian posts a selfie and claims one of her kids took the picture by accident! That's what this sounds like! If anybody else told me this happened to them, I would absolutely call bullshit.

The only other explanation is there's a ghost in my house and I'm really not keen to go down that rabbit hole.

i think we need to understand the gravity of how quickly Percy blames himself and his disabilities for the way his world is. how he's been made to believe over years and years that he's weird, that there's something wrong with him. Percy saying he should've been paying attention. Percy saying there's something wrong with his brain. Percy calling himself broken.. he's just a kid man
