I want to ask, how do people in China actually view Lego Monkie Kid?
No doubt that Lmk fandom as a whole has a major issue with drowning out the voices of people in China and the fact that this show is based on genuine relfion and mythology that is taken, from what I've heard and seen, quite seriously.
Now I've been a fan of the show for a very long time, so much so that it got me into researching and learning as much as I could about it jttw and the religion and mythology behind it all, which led to some interesting things I've noticed about it and the show as whole.
For one, lmk killing the Jade Emperor so quickly and easily was a bold move, seeing as it's the equivalent, from what I've seen, of taking Jesus and easily disintegrating him by throwing him down a flight of escalaters so hopefully they have an explanation for that later on. There's other things that have been pointed out like it not lining up 100% with the book and some minor things here and there, and people not understanding things cause they never read the book or because some things were changed and it was misinterpreted. However at the same time there have been many jttw adaptions (with this one being unique as it's more of a 'sequal') with some made by America and some made by China that also make changes here and there, from what I've seen and heard that are also loved.
Which leaves me a bit confused and to genuinely ask, how do people in China view lmk? Is it good or bad? Is it respectful or disrespectful? And is it okay for one to like and enjoy the show like me and many MANY others have been? I know it might seem like a silly question, but to overthinkers like me and many others out there (Yeah I see you), it can be pretty draining to think about how you could be enjoying a show that is harming others without you realizing it. So now I created this posts to hear your thoughts on it ^^
I do ask that it is kept civil as it's meant to teach and educate, not offend others or tear people down. I hope to hear your thoughts and learn more about all of this ^^

Happy new year - mini comic☃️🎊
Beginning | page 1 | the end
Who does not know who Shan Dan Laozhen is, I will explain now. This is the Chinese Santa Claus, who has several names from which I chose from them: Shan Dan Laozhen, Dong Chen Lao, Sho Hin. He rides a donkey and brings gifts, but not under the Christmas tree, since the Chinese do not put up Christmas trees when the new year comes, they just decorate the house with garlands with images of animals. As gifts, adults receive envelopes with money, and children receive a red envelope with good wishes. I hope I was able to explain to you who he is..( ཀ ʖ̯ ཀ)

Monkey Cop rant
I find the cannon existence of Monkey Cop in LMK so funny because Sun Wukong was the most anti-establishment, ACAB, F the police, anti-government guy before the police were even a thing in China. He’s literally the opposite of a cop, a well known criminal who’s anti-discrimination.
and yet in a way it fits. Because monkey cop isn’t Sun Wukong it’s what most mortals thought the elusive Monkey King was like. MK thought Monkey King was this cool super hero who beat up bad guys, always saved the day, and did no wrong despite his cheeky rebellious demeanor. And this is partly because he hasn’t read journey to the west but partly because of how people in power will often change a myth to fit their ideals.
The many iterations of Nezha come to mind, mainly the ones that interpret Nezha giving his body to his parents as the ultimate act of filial piety when more likely it was originally a way of cutting ties (think giving back a birthday gift) based on how Nezha later gets in a huge fight with his father and tries to kill him. The story was changed to fit the moral of filial piety and Confucianism. Nezha is willing to give everything to his parents including his own body, so should you. Monkey King is a cop and he’s super cool and respectable, cops are super cool, respect cops.
Or I’m reading to far into this and the LMK crew just wanted a stupid action movie series for Sun Wukong.

Egypt-China Underworld Book PDF
I recently received an email about this book:
The Netherworld in Ancient Egypt and China: An Imagined Paradise (2023) by Dr. Mu-chou Poo.
It discusses the similarities between the New Kingdom Egyptian and (pre-Buddhist) Western Han Chinese underworlds. I figured it might be of interest to some of my followers, especially since the Chinese underworld appears several times in Journey to the West (1592).
The book is not supposed to be out until December, but I managed to find a PDF online. Click the link to download the PDF.
Here is the book blurb
Considering the striking similarities between the treatment of the dead and conceptions of the netherworld in ancient Egypt and China, how can we compare the two traditions? Mu-chou Poo considers this question, and provides a new perspective on archaeological materials, including tomb structures and funerary texts, by addressing them in the context of universal human problems such as death, the future of the dead, and the search for happiness in life. Poo chronologically reconstructs the emergence of the idea of the netherworld and its evolution in both ancient Egypt and ancient China. He explores the relationship between religious beliefs and social ethics in these civilizations, considers why similar social and material conditions could have produced varied expressions of the afterlife, and what such variations reveal about each culture. Poo argues that a comparison between both visions of the netherworld and their relationship to life experience gives further insight into the nature of each civilization. Through this analysis, Poo shows that thematic comparison of ancient civilizations is not only possible, but also relevant to modern society.

Since S4 hinted that Nezha, Erlang Shen and Princess Iron Fan used to be some kind of elite warrior trio... Do you think Nezha and Erlang were invited to DBK and PIF's wedding?
No... not invited. Tricked.
I'm willing to bet my head that when PIF ran away to be with DBK, no one in Celestial Realm realised what had happened. After all, the mere idea of a Celestial Warrior falling in love with an enemy is just way too absurd to even consider. They probably assumed that she had lost a battle and DBK had captured her. As a trophy, so to speak.
And who would the Heavens send to rescue one of their greatest warriors? Naturally, the two other warriors who are equally as skilled!
So Nezha and Erlang are sent to rescue their sister-in-arms. But instead of a battle, they find very annoyed looking PIF waiting for them at the gates of the DBK's lair.
"What took you two so long?"
"Of course, you managed to rescue yourself... Well, let’s draw a teleportation circle and go ho-."
"The only thing you two will be doing is getting in and change. We are already late."
"... Late from what?"
"My wedding. We have already been postponing it over a day because you two were taking your sweet time. Do you have any idea how embarrassing it would be to get married without any of the bride’s family present?”
"Wait… You are getting married?! With whom? The Demon Bull King?"
"Naturally. Now chop-chop. My beloved is getting impatient."
Their presense probably made it the most awkward wedding in the history (not that DBK or PIF noticed) but thankfully no one got killed.
(And even though both Nezha and Erlang would rather die than admit it; they actually had pretty good time.)

Happy New Year everyone!! <3<3
I love Lord Shen from kfp and you know, he's the son of the peacocks who invented fireworks, and ofc will know how to make them and stuff, while Wukong is the one who loves to see them, so I think this was a perfect opportunity to make a crossover with my two fav characters of all time

you know what I don't get? why they choose to make macaque have read jttw over mk. the joke would have work if mk had said it to macaque just as well if not better then cannon. in fact it would have been better because it would have been consistent with the level knowlege mk claimed in S4 proper and it mean when or if the show dives into what happened to wukong we can have macaque feeling guilty for his part in it which would be the perfect way to lead into an apogy.
like serously people it could have been mk telling the story to macaque helping him see another perspective on those events and sparking that little bit of something that lead to him smiling at wukong and encourging him. Mk doesn't need to laern that wukong isn't perfect or wasn't always a good person he knows! Wukong was fucking mass murderer for crist sake! You know a point that does need to be made to atleast the westen fandom? that despite his flaws and mistakes wukong isn't all bad. he always even at his worse had his reasons. he was never evil was sake of evil nor cause harm for sake of harming. it was because needed something or was retallyating.
