Why do a solid 7% of wordle players use "adieu" as their opening word. It's coward behavior. It has no personality. It's unoriginal. It's not even a strong opening word. It will rarely if ever tell you where the vowels go, which means it's useless considering you already know there will be a vowel or two involved, and there are only five to choose from. I don't even think it should count as a word for this purpose because it's not even really a loan word. It's fucking French.

not a Candela post but I was actually thinking about The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K Le Guin w/r/t Liliana. Spoilers for a 50+ year old book, but it centers around a man who unwillingly has the power to alter reality to match his dreams and who retains the memory of the world before he changed it. He is required to see a psychiatrist due to his drug abuse, since that suppresses the ability, and the psychiatrist believes him - but uses him to try to fix the various ills of the world. This becomes a monkey's paw-like exploration of various dystopias - to solve overpopulation (really popular theme in the early 70s) his dreams create a world where most people died of a plague; racism is eliminated by the concept of race being eliminated thus eliminating a number of people and a good deal of art and history; world peace is achieved via an alien invasion that unites the people of the world against an external threat rather than each other (a la Watchmen). The man (Orr) who has the dreams becomes more and more insistent that this is wrong, but the psychiatrist does not listen, and things spiral out from there.

I really do think Liliana believes she is doing the right thing, but the fact is, waving away people's legitimate question of "what will happen if you get rid of the gods" - particularly since pretty much everyone not directly within the Ruby Vanguard, including one of the major representatives of planar stability from the natural side (Keyleth) and her wizard counterpart (Ryn) and like, every other wizard who isn't directly under Ludinus's sphere of influence is like "I think that ends in disaster" - is such a massive red flag. Treating geopolitical problems as neatly fixable by One Change that definitely won't make everything worse (source: trust me) is, even in fantasy, a fantasy.

Please don't imagine Solas succeeding in his task and having to bury the only woman he ever loved with his own hands.

Don't imagine him building a temple devoted to Lavellan over her tomb, filling it with murals depicting her deeds and devotion to her people. Please don't think about how he would make this temple the most awe inspiring building in the whole of new Arlathan, putting everything else to shame.

Oh and don't you dare think about how he would include every member of the inquisition in this temple's gravesite. Please, don't imagine him making sure that every single one of them had their own resting place inside this building, along with their stories painted on the walls with intricate detail because he refuses to let them rot in obscurity and all alone.

Spare yourself, don't imagine him dedicating his life to this project to bring honor to his dead lover and his dead friends, and once it is done, years later, he ends up in the final tomb because he ended himself over the crushing guilt that's eating him alive from the inside out.

Don't do that. That would be torture.

I love how much he clearly loves romanced Lavellan. It breaks his heart to leave them, but he clearly doesn't want to wrap them up in the nonsense he's starting. He wants them safe, and to remember him as Solas, not Fen'Harel.

I don't doubt Solas' love for a second, even though I can see why some people question it. But all us Solasmancers know how deeply he feels about everything - he fell so hard. He gave them a home he once loved, painted his old walls with their story so everyone who saw it would know the truth (because the stories were not kind to him). Immortalised them! still very upset about the regret demon And even post-Trespasser, he can't stay away. I'm sure if the devs had had more time we would have gotten a lot more romance material too, so I keep in mind that there were more little things we didn't see (shhhh let me dream, let me hope)
