Tumblr media

authors note: had a request to write a callux fic awhile back so here it finally is <3 i’ve been a little busy recently, but i’ve been trying to crank out these fics in my free time. currently working on yet another chrismd one and a stephen tries blurb for a request — stay tuned lovelys x
word count: 1.5K.
THOUGH YOU HAD SWORN YOU WERE NOT THE PARTY TYPE, that is exactly where you found yourself that friday evening. with some convincing and bribery, your friend, talia, had successfully dragged you along with her. she told you it was a get together with friends — only 20 or so people would be there — but she had lied. as you entered the doors of the club, your eyes scanned the crowd. instead of the 20 she promised, there was at least 50 sweaty, drunk people in your view. “you’re not serious, are you?” you spoke, your voice sounding irritated as you glanced over at talia. in return, you received a look of fake sympathy, “looks like todays the day you’ll have to get out of your comfort zone!” you rolled your eyes. though talia was a good friend, she wasn’t afraid to push you into uncomfortable situations. you sorted of thanked her for that though — without her you would have never met most of the people you were friends with. an introvert being friends with an extrovert sure has it ups and downs — talia knew exactly what she was doing by pulling you along.
talia had introduced you to a lot of her friends over the course of your friendship. harry lewis, her boyfriend, simon, calum airey — the list of them went on for a bit. because of her, you had created a lot of bonds that would last a lifetime. you had to admit, some of the men she had introduced you to were gorgeous — others not your type. one in particular you had your eyes on was lux, and knowing he’d be there that night made talia’s bribery easier.
as you pushed through the waves of drunk people, you scanned your surroundings for a particular man. before you had spotted him with your other friends in the corner, talia had taken your hand and began to pull you into the crowd. you staggered on your feet, almost tripping on your heels as she guided you. after getting ahold of yourself, you and talia crammed into the small circle your friends had been talking in. “hello ladies, a lil late, don’t ya think?” chip teased from across the way, winking at you in the teasing manner he always used. you rolled your eyes sarcastically, meaning no harm. “took me practically hours to drag this one out the door,” talia sneered, tapping your back in a reassuring way. as much as you loved her, sometimes you wished she’d stop embarrassing you. “well she looks lovely!” your eyes darted across the circle, landing on callux, as a dark red hue flushed your cheeks. you knew he was absolutely battered, in fact, you could barely make out what he said through his slurred words. still, you could not help but smile a bit — drunk words were sober thoughts are after all, right?
it had taken you a few to adjust to your surroundings; the once painfully loud music feeling natural to you. the group had dispersed, leaving you with lux as simon pulled talia away. you couldn’t help but let out a little sigh as you leaned against the back wall of the club, lux standing to your right. he was very much gone, it was clear to see. his body swayed slowly — whether it was to the music or because he couldn’t hold himself up, you couldn’t tell. a hint of sadness hit you as you realized all of your friends had ditched you. you knew it wasn’t on purpose — some of them were too drunk to stand — but you couldn’t help feel alone in a crowded room. “y.n,” lux began to speak, making you turn you head over to him. you wished you were more intoxicated than you were as your vision only blurred a bit, the tipsy-ness making you slightly dizzy. “mhm?“ you responded as you sat your empty pint glass on a nearby table. his body inched closer to you, leaving little space in-between, “can i kiss you?” lux’s drunk spoken words poisoned the air and you could not help but let out a little laugh. “you’re drunk.” you spoke, a slight huff escaping your lips; one of anxiousness, not of disappointment.
to admit, you would have kissed lux. like you had thought earlier, you had always seen the boy as handsome. his personality, his looks; it was a whole package deal for you. he was drunk, and if anything, you wanted your first kiss with him to he sober at least. lux huffed, setting his now empty pint on a nearby table. “please?” again, you laughed. out of most of your friends, lux was one of the worsts drunks. he wasn’t mean or sketty, moreso clumsy, out of it and needy. “ask me when you’re sober.” you didn’t want to leave him alone, but that’s what you found yourself doing. looking back at him once last time, you disappeared into the crowd to find talia.
the rest of the night went by swimmingly. you didn’t get too drunk in order to spare yourself from a hangover the next day, but you still let yourself let loose a little. the next morning you were awoken by the sun hitting your skin; peeking through the blinds as it raised from the horizon. your eyes stung slightly as you let yourself sit up, only a slight headache present. you praised god for sparring you from a hangover, especially on a day where you had to film.
today you had been invited on a sidemen shoot, which probably wasn’t the best idea to hold considering most people had been sick from last night’s events. “SIDEMEN BRUTALLY RANK YOUTUBERS” was the main idea of the video — you being one of the youtubers who will be ranked for various things. the shoot had concluded within the span of two hours, a lot of the shots having to be cut out due to the group descending into madness. though a lot of the shoot included poking fun at theo and taking the piss out of chris about his breakup, it was fun nonetheless.
though it was only half past four when the shoot concluded, you were already exhausted. making your way to the back, you grabbed your bag as you slung it over your shoulder. as you began to walk out, you were stopped dead in your tracks. leaning against the frame of the door was lux, looking a lot less disheveled than last night. “no hangover?” he teased, receiving a nod from you. “nope, im spared. you must be having a rough day though.” you clicked, stuffing one of your hands into your jean pocket. “lucky you! it was a harsh recovery this morning. i’m still feeling the consequences.” lux hummed unsatisfied, walking his way into the room more. “do you remember what happened last night?” he added as he approached you, leaving enough space for one more person between you two. you thought through the events of last night, and probably unlike him, you remembered everything. “which part? the part where you said you wanted to kiss me and i told you you were drunk?” a teasing manner escaped your lips as you sat your bag back down onto the table, knowing you’d be there for a bit in conversation. lux laughed, putting his head down a bit in embarrassment as his pale cheeks turned red. “well,” he took a step forward, “im not drunk anymore.” your breath hitched, your bodies now closer than before. a dark hue flushed your cheeks as you stayed stunned in your place. “i—“ before you could get out a word out, his mouth came down on yours. you didn’t let yourself think about what this meant to him; for fun or for feelings. you just gave in. lips locking onto each others, you let your body melt into his as he pulled you closer by the waist. what if someone walked in? what if he didn’t mean it? you let the thoughts drift away as you focused more on tangling your lips with his. you let your hands travel up to his hair, tangling your fingers in his slight curls. a breath escaped your lips as he pulled away, looking down at you with swollen lips and red flushed cheeks. a noise erupted in the hallway, causing you two to pull away from each other fast. as simon entered the room, he looked back and forth between you too, a smug look on his face like he had known something happened. he laughed slightly as he grabbed his phone off the table, slipping it into his pocket. “thank you two for coming, the video should do well.” he smiled an awkward smile before slipping back out into the hallway, leaving you and lux alone once more. you sighed, earning a questionable look from lux. “someone knows something he shouldn’t.” you stifled a laugh, once more grabbing your bag. “goodbye, lux. i’ll see you later, yeah?” as you approached the door you turned back to look at him, the red hue still prominent on your face. “you will.” he shot a wink in your direction as you exited, the butterflies in your stomache still remaining as you left.

Hey so about where Hooke is buried - it's mentioned on page 72 of Michael Coopers' book on Hooke "A More Beautiful City" that it's most likely that Hooke's remains are in the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium in Wanstead. Here's the exerpt:
In late 1891, almost two centuries after his death, a start was made on lifting the floor of the church of St Helen, Bishopsgate, prior to repairing the nave pavement, but a Home Office order was quickly issued on 7 November directing certain measures to be taken to prevent the church "becoming or continuing dangerous or injurious to the public health". According to a journal kept by the Rector, J.A.L Airey, on lifting the floor a "horrible view" was revealed of "loose, confused and intermingled bones with which the ground was filled to several feet in dept...... effluvia from the decaying remains below was free to rise from the floor of the church, and pollute the air". Out of the intermingled remains of "700 - 1,000" persons only about ten individuals could be identified. The coffins had been crushed under the weight of successive burials and re-burials over the centuries.
The remains were removed "with utmost reverencr and decency and care... no vulgar or mere wanton curiosity at any time", place in seventy cases and taken to a cemetery at Wanstead where they were reburied in a vault alongside the remains of parishioners of the amalgameted parish of St Martin Outwich. The mortal remains of Hooke, Sir John and Lady Lawrence and Grace Hooke were not among those that could be identified, so it must be assumef that they now lie at the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium, Wanstead, in a mass grace (square 222 Grace 3833) paid for from the Parish Poor Fund. An inscription on the memorial figure (Figure 2.5) at the site reads:
Sacred to the memory of many generations of parishioners of St Helen Bishopsgate in the City of London who died in the Lord and were buried within the walls of the parish church and whose remains were removed to this cemetery and decently and reverently re-interred in a vault hereunder by the Order of the Queen in Council A.D. 1892 ... "The Lord Knoweth them that are His."
Thanks for the clarification. I knew about the relocations and the mass grave, but didn't know Bishopsgate was such a biohazardous mess to begin with. I just wish they'd had the foresight to be a bit more organized.
What I guess I was trying to convey earlier was that we know where Hooke is an a collective level, but not an individual one.
It's just sad that his remains are lost somewhere among a hodge-podge of other people's, with no hope of ever being separated. My hope was that identification could still be possible from some extant scrap of DNA (like a piece of hair) but it's probably too remote.
But in the end, I guess it doesn't really matter, does it? Everything returns to the Earth eventually, in spite of our vain attempts to delay the inevitable with embalming and fancy coffins.
And when I really stop to think about it, I'm sure there's no place Hooke would rather be at rest than with Grace.

In flashbacks, the audience is shown a young Margaret Roberts working at the family grocer's shop in Grantham, listening to the political speeches of her father, whom she idolised (Bang Bang) – it is also hinted that she had a poor relationship with her mother, a housewife (Living In A House Divided) – and announcing that she has won a place at Oxford University (I Found Someone). She remembers her struggle, as a young lower-middle-class woman, to break into a snobbish male-dominated Conservative Party and find a seat in the House of Commons (Woman’s World), along with businessman Denis Thatcher's marriage proposal to her (The Shoop Shoop Song). Her struggles to fit in as a "Lady Member" of the House, and as Education Secretary in Edward Heath's Cabinet are also shown (Half Breed), as are her friendship with Airey Neave, her decision to stand for Leader of the Conservative Party and eventual victory (Take It Like A Man), and her voice coaching and image change (All or Nothing).
Further flashbacks examine historical events during her time as Prime Minister, after winning the 1979 general election, including the rising unemployment related to her monetarist policies and the tight 1981 budget (Love Hurts), the 1981 Brixton riot, the 1984–1985 UK miners' strike, and the bombing in Brighton of the Grand Hotel during the 1984 Conservative Party Conference, when she and her husband were almost killed (Heart of Stone). We also see (slightly out of chronological sequence) her decision to retake the Falkland Islands following the islands' invasion by Argentina in 1982, the sinking of the ARA General Belgrano and Britain's subsequent victory in the Falklands War, her friendship with U.S. President Ronald Reagan and emergence as a world figure, and the economic boom of the late 1980s (The Beat Goes On).
By 1990, Thatcher is shown as an imperious but aging figure, ranting aggressively at her cabinet, refusing to accept that the "Poll Tax" is unjust, even while it is causing riots, and fiercely opposed to European integration (Save Up All Your Tears). Her deputy, Geoffrey Howe, resigns after being humiliated by her in a cabinet meeting, Heseltine challenges her for the party leadership, and her loss of support from her cabinet colleagues leaves her little choice but reluctantly to resign as Prime Minister after eleven years in office (You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me). A teary-eyed Thatcher exits 10 Downing Street for the last time as Prime Minister with Denis comforting her (I Hope You Find It). She is shown as still disheartened about it almost twenty years later (If I Could Turn Back Time).
Eventually, Thatcher is shown packing up her late husband's belongings, and telling him it's time for him to go (Strong Enough). Denis' ghost leaves her as she cries that she actually is not yet ready to lose him, to which he replies "You're going to be fine on your own... you always have been" before leaving forever (Song For The Lonely). Having finally overcome her grief, she contentedly washes a teacup alone in her kitchen (Believe).

New interview with Don Airey!
Jeb: I have major respect for you as an artist. I am excited to hear you have a new album coming in May of this year. It is called One of a Kind. And Don…you’re one of a kind. How did that name come about?
Don: It was from a jam in a local rehearsal studio with Carl Sentance and Simon McBride – listening back to my recording afterwards I heard Carl sing “One of a Kind” over the chorus section. I think he was referring though to a glamorous young lady rather than a crusty old keyboard player.
Jeb: Your last album in 2014 was called All Keyed Up. That one rocked and was not at all what I expected out of a keyboardist. Will this one be similar?
Don: Its very much in the nature of a band album and it’s not so “prog” as the preceeding albums have been. Eleven songs, lots of soloing, melodies, riffs, something for everyone hopefully.
Jeb: Tell me about how writing differs when writing One of a Kind and writing Deep Purple music.
Don: The main difference is the time factor – you have a couple of days to get things together rather than a couple of months. Same with the recording sessions. I just take all the ideas that come tumbling out of the jams and try to turn them into songs.
Jeb: You’ve played with some of the best hard rock guitarist on the planet…how does Simon McBride hold up against them?
Don: Its very hard to compare one with another. I met Simon six years ago. We became friends after he played at my biannual fund raiser in the village where I live. I got him in to play on “Keyed Up” and then into doing some of the gigs. He’s one of the nicest people I have ever worked with a fund of ideas. He has a fluidity in his playing I haven’t encountered since working with Gary Moore. Incidentally, Simon is from Belfast, almost from the same district as Gary. But he is nevertheless very much his own man, and just hope I can hang on to him for one more project before he hits the stratosphere with his own.
Jeb: All are the 11 new songs….new compositions? Or have some been lying around?
Don: They are all brand new. Carl and myself are fairly dutiful about getting together for writing sessions and having Simon involved added a welcome new dimension and immediacy to our output.
Jeb: This is slated to come out May 25, 2018 on earMUSIC as 2CD release. The bonus disc is live from a live concert you did. They are classic Deep Purple, Rainbow and Gary Moore tunes. Which of these was the most fun to look back at and play live?
Don: Without a doubt “Still got the Blues.” Simon just nails it and I don’t know of anybody else that has, or could. And of course, on a personal level, it honors the memory of perhaps the greatest musician I ever knew.
Jeb: Here is a hard one…there is no real music business like there was back in the day you came to prominence. Why bother doing this type of stuff? Isn’t it easier to just play the hits and collect the checks?
Don: Stuck in my ways, I guess. My publisher and good friend Stuart Taylor used to say “If you want to be in the music biz, you have to make music. What you got?” Collecting checks in the music biz is a good trick if you can do it though.
Jeb: You like the Hammond. I’ve heard you even play at your church in your local village. Is that true?
Don: Yes, I am officially deputy organist at the local church, the only proper job I have ever had. If I am around and needed it’s a privilege to play there, but not the easiest of gigs, I have to say. The organ dates back to Victorian times, and is a splendid instrument, and of course you have really to be on your toes…keeping up with the choir…and not missing the many service cues…and remembering the important part dynamics and phrasing play in hymns, anthems and psalms.
Jeb: Get specific on what I am going to hear in May with these songs. What can your fans expect?
Don: Well, a large helping of English classic rock – perhaps more Rainbow-ish than DP.
Jeb: Are there any you think the fan base will find particularly exciting?
Don: Yes, its quite “heavy” in parts
Jeb: I want to do an in-depth follow-up interview when this album drops. But…I also want to end this sucker with a few self-indulgent questions as I am a huge fan of your work. Let’s start with a biggie…is Deep Purple close to retiring?
Don: With DP the watchword always is “Expect the Unexpected” but, obviously things are winding down though ever so slowly.
Jeb: How big of an influence was Jon Lord on you? Do you remember hearing his playing for the first time?
Don: First heard Jon on “Hush.” I had actually seen him play a couple of years prior to that with the Flowerpot Men at Nottingham University. I thought his playing was astounding; he was loud, driving, technically adept, and made it all look so easy. A good friend over the years to so many of us as well.
Jeb: Where I grew up we were not aware of Colosseum II. You were on their album in 1976. Tell me what that was like and what I missed?
Don: It was one of the many fusion bands that emerged in the wake of the Mahavishnu Orchestra’s success, lead by one of the greatest pros I have ever known drummer Jon Hiseman, and featuring the youthful genius of Gary Moore. We never quite captured it on record, but live the band was absolutely explosive, maniacal even.
Jeb: You were on Never Say Die by Sabbath? I heard that band was a drug infested mess at that time. What was that like?
Don: I remember walking into the session meeting Tony and Ozzy and them offering me a cup of tea. The control room was as though we were in a family’s front room. The two days of sessions were cool, calm and collected. Bill Ward did say to me at the end that he was getting a bit worried about Ozzy though. They couldn’t have been nicer to me, or more professional. I love that album.
Jeb: How did you meet Cozy Powell? I think you played on a solo album of his before you joined Rainbow.
Don: I was in Cozy’s band Hammer that had three hit singles in 1974. A lifelong friendship ensued. He was an amazing musician, especially in a recording studio. He was multi-talented as well and could have made a career as a racing driver, or at show jumping – an incredible horseman apparently. We recorded Over the Top his first solo venture, in London, immediately after finishing recording Down to Earth with Rainbow in France. Great days ay!
Jeb: Michael Schenker is a great guitarist…but another strong personality.
Don: Michael was one of the first people I knew in the biz to give up drinking – astonishing in 1975 – partaking only of sparkling mineral water. Trouble was, the gas turned to acid in his stomach over the months and put him in hospital with a severe bout of peritonitis.
Jeb: I want the untold story of writing the intro to “Mr. Crowley.”
Don: It was recorded in half an hour on a Minimoog and a Yamaha CS80—one of the first polyphonic synths—two hours into the Blizzard sessions. I thought little of it at the time.
Jeb: We all know the story that you flew in that plane only moments before Randy did. He was a friend to you. I think I saw where you played at a tribute to him recently.
Don: I just played at the “Remembering Randy Rhoads” event in Anaheim in January. It was a wonderful evening commemorating the man’s playing and composing. They even very graciously gave me an award. There is not a day goes by that I don’t think of Randy. He truly was one of a kind.
Jeb: That tour with Brad Gillis stepping into being Ozzy’s guitarist had to be emotionally hard…yet you guys killed it musically.
Don: Brad gave his all on his first real professional engagement and kept Ozzy afloat. Not very sure that Brad enjoyed his time in the band though. When I bumped into him recently in Nashville he couldn’t have been less pleased to see me.
Jeb: Gary Moore was another one…I’ve heard you were very important to getting Gary to start recording blues. Is that true?
Don: I mentioned to Gary that I had done a gig with a band called The Hawks in my local pub, featuring the twin guitar work of Mick Grabham and Ray Minhinnet. I said how impressed I was not only with their playing, but the whole measured blues feel of the band. Gary must have got hold of their album, because several of the same songs figured on Still Got the Blues. He also got hold of their rhythm section, bass player Andy Pyle and drummer Graham Walker. It definitely is the album where he found himself.
Jeb: Gary was a fast living guitarist. There has to be a couple tales of Gary and Don sucking down suds on the road…
Don: There are quite a few, but I can’t tell you them!
Jeb: Who am I missing? Oh…Glenn Tipton…Baptism of Fire. I think you played on the title track. Sad news about his health…
Don: I have worked on six projects with Glenn including three Priest albums. He is a gentleman and a scholar, and the real godfather of English heavy metal. Yes, very sorry to hear his news.
Jeb: Andrew Lloyd Webber…wow! Tell me about working with him.
Don: It was with Colosseum II. We were on the same record company. He’d heard War Danceand asked us to participate in the making of Variations. The recording lasted a week. Andrew was very charming, full of ideas, and before we knew it we were number 2 in the album charts. Still get the checks from his office 40 years on.
Jeb: Last one…what is up the rest of 2018 and next year? Will there be solo shows? More DP? What’s next?
Don: Just finished a three-week club tour of Europe with the band that plays on One of a Kind. Getting ready to do a four-month summer run of festivals with DP starting in Mexico in May, with perhaps a UK tour in November with my own band following up on the release of One of a Kind.
Jeb: Okay…really last one…you play with great guitarists…Are you really a frustrated guitarist?
Don: No, I’m really a frustrated keyboard player.

Fatuma Ndenzako and her sister Laurinda make up Collective Closets, a clothing label that brings together their Australian upbringing, and African roots.
Angola born and Altona-raised, these days, Fatuma splits her time between her store in West Melbourne and home in Coburg, which she shares with her husband Ryan and their two year old son, Arlo.
Fatuma doesn’t do anything by halves, and neither does her sister.  I’m no mathematician, but I think that means together they equal… infinity? Their clothes are made with bold prints in exuberant colours… and family Christmases consist of seven course meals and dancing until 2am.
Fatuma’s  parents are third wave African immigrants, who moved here in the 1980s to a house in Altona in Melbourne’s inner west, where they played the role of ‘Only Black People in the Area’. Growing up was a balancing act of African and Australian culture. Fatuma has fielded her share of awkward questions about where she’s from, to which she answers, ‘Melbourne,’ to which people have responded by noting her uncanny Australian accent. Like, duh. Altona, mate.
Collective Closets is a reflection of the way Fatuma lives her life, blending traditional culture with freshness, joy and family, fastidiously put together and bursting with heart, somehow at the exact same time.
Hey Fatuma – thanks for chatting with us today! How do you and Ryan share the parenting load, and how has this been through COVID-19?
Things are a little bit different at the moment because of COVID-19. My husband has Type 1 diabetes, so we’ve really had to lockdown. Ryan’s got the more demanding job and mine is the more flexible one. I’m with Arlo three days during the week and he’s in daycare for two. Then Ryan does most of the parenting on the weekends while I’m working in the store. Even though it’s a little bit fiddly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. And I like that we’re showing Arlo there’s not just one way to have a career.
What was it like growing up in Melbourne?
We had an African-Australian upbringing, but apart from African school on the weekends, we did the same things as the other kids. The exception was watching Neighbours and Home and Away. My mother banned these shows because it showed kids talking back to their parents, which definitely wasn’t allowed in our house!
My siblings and I played a lot of sports, which we loved, plus it helped us to fit in. We were the only black people in Altona at the time, and most of the Western Suburbs.
What was that like?
I’ve been reflecting on it a lot in relation to Black Lives Matter. We felt like zoo animals a lot of the time. There were plenty of people who had never seen black people before, and who thought it was okay to stare or interrogate us with all kinds of questions. My skin colour was a real focal point when I was out and about until sometime in my late teens, early twenties.
And what changed then?
I’ve built a strong community here, where colour isn’t at the forefront. I wear my dual cultures proudly, but, I mean, all you have to do is look on our website to see that we’re a business that celebrates women of colour. I love sharing the stories of the traditional African fabrics we use. We use a lot of shuka, for example, which is a checked cloth worn by the Maasai people of East Africa. Educating people about different cultures is a big part of what we do.
How has parenthood differed to your expectations?
I’d always been told that having a child grounds and settles you. I watched my mother find a lot of joy in motherhood, even the more mundane aspects. It’s really beautiful to be there and to watch this person learning and growing. But I discovered it’s really important for me to strike a balance between who I am as an individual and who I am as a parent.
My son has astonished me every step of the way. He was walking at 7 months and talking early. I’ve been surprised by all of his milestones so far. So that was another discovery: that my son was actually going to guide me a lot of the time, and at times I wasn’t going to be in charge.
I’m still getting my head around that bit. How have you been able to relinquish that control?
I wasn’t enjoying the feeling of being disappointed when things didn’t turn out a certain way. It was bringing a lot of unnecessary chaos into our lives, during a time that was stressful enough. We found it beneficial to not try and control every aspect of life and understand when to go with the flow.
What advice would you give to anyone juggling a business with a baby?
Do what you can when you can. Not everything is going to be perfect when you first start out, especially the little things. Know that a work day can be whatever you make it. It’s your business, so you need to make it work for you. That’s the joy of being your own boss. When Arlo was little, my hours were 7pm until midnight, or often just whenever he was napping. That worked for my family and kept me sane.
Family Favourites
Date night spot?
We love going to Marion for a great pasta and wine whenever we can.
Sunday morning breakfast?
Oats, eggs, toast, fruit, coffee, the works, but that’s not just on Sundays. It’s a really important meal for Ryan because of his diabetes. It needs to set him up for the day.
‘Me time’ activity?
Watching really bad TV and hanging out with my friends.
Weekend getaway?
Aireys Inlet, hands down.

Deep Purple-Drummer Ian Paice in Bebra: Besser als das Original?
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Zu hören gibt es Deep Purple Klassiker wie „Child In Time“, „Black Night“, „Smoke On The Water“, „Woman From Tokyo“ und „Hush“. » 5. Februar 2020, Ian Paice feat. Purpendicular, Lokschuppen, Bebra

Fond of you. [calfreezy]
“Babe” Cal was standing on the other side of the door. “I want to see my godness.” he sounded a bit nervous. “Almost there.” I said while I looked in the mirror for one last time. I was wearing a red dress. Cal’s favorite one. I had kept my make-up simple and Classic me sneakers as shoes. Cal deserved this evening to go well. He worked so hard lately and I was happy to have my boyfriend for myself because after three years I was still as fond of him. Cal’s mouth fell open. “Y/n, I look like a fool next to you.” He said in the most beautiful way ever. “Are you sure about that?” I watched him from head to toe. “This is why we are a power-couple.” He laughed. I hooked in his arm. He took me to the car and opened the door. “My lady.” He said charmingly. I stepped in and had the biggest smile on my lips. “I know you do not like fancy things but dear y/n you deserve it.” He said as he grabbed my hand. I looked into his eyes and for a moment I forgot the world around me. I was Completely in love. Cal had thought of everything. In the background, Elvis’s song can’t help falling in love was playing. When cal and I got to know each other, we had nothing in common but every time we met the other, it soon grew to something so beautiful that I would never want to give it up. We sang softly with the music.
“Voilà. My lady.” He said while parking the car. We had stopped at the most fancy restaurant ever. I was surprised. “Cal, babe. This is too much.” I looked at him. “The best for the best girl in my life.” Cal said.
We were spoiled by various types of cuisine and beverages. “Y/n, tell me how you do that get more beautiful than the day before?” I looked shyly at my shoulder. my cheeks turned red. “I mean it! Your eyes sparkle every day more than the day before. You laugh gets bigger every time. And those little things you do when you’re shy. Or That thing When you raise your nose. All those little things y/n. "He went on and I could only see how fantastic he was in everything he did. "Says Mr. Perfect.” I laid my hand in his and I felt his thumb make circles in my palm. “I love you, freezy.” I said softly. “And I love you, L/N.” He smiled at me and Drowned in his eyes again. We talked and talked. My eyes wandered to an older couple sitting at the table next to us. “Y/n, look. We over 50 years.” A future that contained Cal was all I needed. “Promised?” “Promised.”
I kicked my shoe off. I had not let Cal’s hand go for a minute. He suddenly picked me up in bride style and took me to the bench. A kiss was pressed on my forehead. “Lovely, I have a surprise.” He waved his eyebrows. “First, I want to slip into something more comfortable. Then I’m totally yours.” I quickly walked up and did my pajamas on. A t-shirt I had stolen from Cal. I demolished down. I was attacked by kisses in my neck. I was lifted up and thrown gently into the bench . “Because they haven’t got your favorite ice cream, I’ve bought it.” I laughed from happiness. I sat between Cal’s legs and wormed me in his arms “Cosy.” He said playing with my hair. I took a shovel of ice cream and pretended to stop it in his mouth, but instead I rubbed it on his nose. I heard his laughter and the ice cold ice hit my cheek. “Callum Airey. You just did what?” I pushed my cheek to his other one who was still clean. “Couple goals!” He shouted. I kissed his lips and before I knew I fell asleep in his arms. I did not even have to dream. The reality was already pretty Damn good enough.

JOURNEY- CALFREEZY FANFIC PART 2
This is pretty short and a filler between more stuff. Enjoy! ------------------------------------------ "She's pregnant and she's mad." Cal shouts at his phone over snapchat and I glare at him. "She's mad because I'm finalizing stuff for the secret stuff I'm almost ready to announce and we got in an argument about certain things." He ends the snap and start to film me. "Yeah because I'm about to pop in two weeks. I have a baby boy in here who is very antsy and likes to kick. Anyway yes there is a special project we are going to announce and we will be announcing that in about an hour but here's the thing, I'm involved, Cal is involved and a lot of people you love will be involved, so watch out for that announcement." "We will announce it in a very short time." I wave goodbye to the snapchat and I turn to Cal. "I can't believe you're trying to get on the field less than five weeks after giving birth. I mean I expect nothing else from you but it's crazy." "Well we have a crazy team and they know I'm really happy even though I can't practice too much. But we have Sarah, Cal, Marcus, Wizzy, and the other rebel boys and they can play really well. Not to mention we have other youtubers who played at the last match. My post-pregnant ass will kill it because even my pregnant ass has been killing it. I walk more than five miles a week even with this bowling ball attached to me and I jogged up until I couldn't anymore and was told not to. I kill it. I'm a dope mom." I laugh and he smiles. "You are. I mean you're killing it." "Okay so Simon should be over with Fangs for the announcement since she got here yesterday so I'm gonna throw on my rebel jersey and you find something that fits." He jokes and I can't help but laugh along with him. I stand up and walk into our room and he throws me a rebel jersey. "I knew you'd outgrow all of the jerseys I sized up for you at a certain point, so here's the final one." I look at the back and it says Baby Momma with his number. "Very funny." I pull off my current huge tee shirt and before I can even put on my other shirt Cal places his hand on my stomach. "He's gonna be the cutest little footballer." "Lucas Aiden Airey." I mumble and he smiles even more. "Okay I think that's the door." I mumble as I hear a knock sound. "Go get that." I push him towards the door and he jogs out of the room. I pull on the jersey and I walk out to see Simon and Jessie. "Oh look at you. The last time I saw you, you were barely even pregnant." Jessie hugs me and I nod. "Its all just happening really fast and he is due very very soon. He's due March 21, but the match is April 30th, so trust me I'll be running back and forth on the field." I assure her and Simon smiles. We all take a seat and Cal turns and faces Simon. "Okay we've had two sidemen charity matches in prior years but this year we have the Rebel FC and Youtube Allstars coming together to face off against the Sidemen FC. We have trained crazier than ever, we have even added new additions to teams including girls." Simon starts off and Cal. "Yes you heard right. We have some ladies who will be killing it out in the pitch right alongside the rest of us. Those ladies include Jessie aka Fangs, Freya who is Josh's girlfriend, and Emily who is Ethan's girlfriend on the Sidemen FC. We also have Sarah Close on the opposing side along with my beautiful girlfriend who will have given birth by the time of the match so she will be playing. We also have Maddy who is Caspers girlfriend." "And we actually had one dilemma while coming up with this match and it was what to call the other team. We have members of two teams coming together and we didn't know if we should still call it Rebel, but the youtube Allstars don't mind being on rebel, so it will be Rebel FC versus Sidemen FC." Cal fills everyone in and I nod. "The match will take place on April 30th at 2pm and tickets are on sale on the 15th of this month at 12 noon which is in a few days. All proceeds are going to charity. This year they will be going to the Manchester Young Lives People Center." Jessie adds and I smile at the camera before trying not to mess up my part to all of this. "It's gonna be crazy and it's gonna be the first time we have the guys and girls on the pitch together so go get your ticket on the 15th and we will be giving more information as we get closer to the match." We all wave goodbye to camera and I just continue to sit because I'm trying to be an in shape pregnant lady, but I'm fucking lazy. "Okay so I have to get to practice for the Rebel game in a few days so Si, I'll see you at that match right?" Cal asks and Simon nods. "I will get the cargo there safely as well." He looks over at me and I smile. He doesn't know it but I want to make him Godfather of the baby with Cals sister as Godmother. However I could also do Cal and Sarah or Josh and Freya. That's honestly been tougher than deciding a name which we agreed on pretty easily. "Yes Si said he'd pick me up since you'll be there much earlier than me. Also Jessie, if you're still here you should come, don't be hesitant to come along. I know Sarah is gonna be there, and you haven't really gotten to meet her that much, along with Freya who's on your team." "Yeah that'd be great." She nods and everyone seems to just end up filing out of my flat leaving me all alone. "Well you leave me here along and expect me not to continue online shopping for cute baby clothes. Jokes on you Callum Airey." ---- That's part two!!!

When Housing Was A Prior-ity
In 1924, much of what is now Prior Park was merely land belonging (probably) to the Bonarstead Farm (latterly a pub until the building of Farmfoods).  According to the 1847 tithe map, it was occupied by James Bonner, hence Bonner’s Stead[ing].  Shielfield Terrace is late 19th century and there was a smattering of buildings, some 18th century, around the Grove pub.  Dominating the area was the Allan Brothers sawmill and woodyard (I remember that!) which stood on the Homebase retail park site.

There were a number of quarries in the area.  The King’s quarry and Queen’s quarry by the cemetery had been major sources of building material for Berwick but by the 20th century were disused.  Another was at the junction of the Etal Road and the road to East Ord.  Just off the south end of Dean Drive up the hill, is a small row of obviously older buildings which made up Brickfield Lodge.  The name gives a clue:  local clay here (and Scremerston) was used to manufacture bricks and pantiles.
Tumblr media

In the 1930s, much of the housing in Berwick along Walkergate and behind Marygate was squalid and a programme of new house building was instigated.
Tumblr media
Weatherley Square, part of the rabbit warren of alleyways between Marygate and Chapel Street that were deemed unfit for habitation in the 1930s.
The council house estate in the West End of Tweedmouth had been completed by 1932 and in Berwick, Highfields was built by the end of the decade.  WWII halted the building work which was resumed after the war. In January 1946, Berwick Council outlined its plans for capital expenditure in the forthcoming financial year.  Of the nearly £1 million pounds on new roads and footpaths, street lighting, and sewers, nearly £78,000 was to be spent on the construction of 80 new houses at Shielfield Terrace.  They were of two types.  The “No Fines” house, was designed by the Ministry of Works and produced by George Wimpey.  They were built with a ten-inch (254mm) concrete shell cast in situ. The concrete for the entire outer structure was cast in one operation using reusable formwork.  ”No-fines" refers to the type of concrete used - concrete with no fine aggregates).
Tumblr media
A typical “No Fines” house in Braeside.
The “Airey” house was designed by Sir Edwin Airey for the Ministry of Works.  They were pre-fabricated and consisted of concrete columns reinforced with steel tubes recycled from surplus military vehicles!  A series of shiplapped concrete panels were then tied to the posts.
Tumblr media
A typical “Airey” house in Dean Drive.  Many have had pebbledash render added, but the example still shows the original shiplap concrete slabs.
The Housing Committee had hoped the first 40 houses would be ready by August 1946 with the remaining 40 to be finished in October.  However, constant (and understandable) shortages of building materials meant long delays.  In June the following year, the Berwick Advertiser reported that 22 houses had been occupied with the remaining 58 well under way.  Notwithstanding, 100 more “No Fines” houses had been ordered and the foundations cut.  Eventually, the work rate picked up; a Council minute records the building of one house a day. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Etal Road, there was much excitement as the Mayor, Mr Fred Stott (the artist’s father) opened the first temporary prefabricated bungalows at Valley View.  One new tenant was James Frizzell with his wife and 10 year old son.  He described their previous home,
“…an antiquated building lacking modern conveniences and overtaxing the occupants.  Fourteen people shared a lavatory.  Water had to be carried from outside—typical of many houses in town.”  The paper enthused, “The fittings were novelties to the Frizzels—the bath…hot and cold water…and the all-electric kitchenette.” “The ‘pre-fab’, equipped with furniture, seems quite spacious.  There are two bedrooms, a living-room, and kitchenette.  The lavatory is in a separate compartment to the bathroom.  Ample cupboard accommodation is available. “It is estimated that rent and rates will cost the tenants approximately 15s[hillings] (75p!) a week.  Whether the all-electric kitchenette will prove to be within the means of the average wage-earner is considered debatable.”

A perennial question asked is, why is it called Prior Park?  It is oft said there was a priory on the site.  Prior Park was originally called the Shielfield Estate.  The new estate name and the street names were announced in the Berwick Advertiser following the Council’s Housing Committee meetings to discuss this thorny issue.
382.  With reference to the proceedings on 14th January 1947, the Committee considered suggestions for naming the permanent housing estate at Tweedmouth, and the streets therein.
RESOLVED:  That consideration of the matter be deferred pending enquiries as to names of the fields upon which the estate is erected. 22nd January, 1947
448.  With reference to the proceedings of the Committee on 22nd January, 1947, the Town Clerk reported the land purchased from Lady Francis Osborne was known on the title as “Etal Way”. Moved and seconded: “That the estate be known as ‘Prior Park’.”..  Amendment proposed and seconded: “That the estate be named ‘Etal Way’.” On a division, there voted for “Prior Park”, 4, and for “Etal Way”, 3. 11th February, 1947
So it’s named after (presumably) Prior or Priory Field.  A reminder of this comes from the names of two properties on the Etal Road either side of Springhill Lane; Priory Hill Farm and Priory Hill Cottage.  There is no record of any priory having been on the site.  The name will derive from Lindisfarne Priory which owned much of the land on the south side of the river—hence the district, Norham and Islandshire, part of the County Palatine of Durham.  This ownership, arguably, goes back to the 7th century.   The estate was extended south forming Springdale, Hawthorn Crescent, Braeside and Hillside, in July, 1949.
As an aside, Lord and Lady Osborne are remembered in Osborne Road and Crescent.  Blanche Ruth Brooke Tatton Grieve was married to Commander Lord Francis Granville Godolphin Osborne a younger son of George Godolphin Osborne, who from 1872 to his death in 1895 was 9th Duke of Leeds.

The Tories are set to be hoist by their own petard as ‘Labour uses Tories’ IRA jibe to target Lady Brexit, Claire Fox.’
This has to be strangest political appointment since Caligula tried to make Incitatus a consul. It annoys lots of Tories as well as Red Wall Tories who were put off by Corbyn's associations with Sinn Fein and the IRA.

Today’s Sunday Times has an intriguing story which shows why Sir Keir Starmer is an automatic improvement on Corbyn, he doesn’t have the baggage that Corbyn has.
Labour is set to weaponise Boris Johnson’s decision to award a peerage to a controversial former Brexit Party MEP who has been accused of defending the IRA.
Claire Fox, 60, who was a member of a far-left party that defended the IRA’s terrorist attack in Warrington in 1993, will be used in anti-Tory campaign literature by the Labour Party.
Last night an advert was being circulated online among Labour groups that featured an image of Fox and Johnson under the banner: “What does Boris Johnson offer a defender of the IRA? He put her in the House of Lords.”
Labour, whose former leader Jeremy Corbyn was criticised for being an IRA sympathiser, will attempt to turn the tables on the Tories amid a backlash against the appointment last month.
The party intends to exploit the controversy in marginal northern seats in the “red wall” as well as those in the London commuter belt.
The development comes as Lord Tebbit, who was seriously injured in the Brighton hotel bombing of 1984 and whose wife Margaret was left paralysed, condemned the prime minister’s decision. The former Tory cabinet minister said he was “surprised” by the appointment, which came just days after the 30th anniversary of the murder of Ian Gow, the Conservative minister and close ally of Margaret Thatcher who was killed by a bomb placed under his car outside his home in the East Sussex village of Hankham. Tebbit added: “I don’t know what got into Boris Johnson’s mind about it. I have got too many friends who were murdered and I think of Ian Gow and Airey Neave [killed in a car bomb attack at the House of Commons in 1979] and, of course, I wake up to see my wife every day who was so seriously injured.” Lord Lexden, the Tory peer and official Conservative Party historian, accused Johnson of showing “indifference to the memory of all those who died” in the atrocities, including prominent members of the Conservative Party, who “paid the ultimate price”.
I’d hate to be a Tory MP in places like Guildford, Warrington, the West Midlands, and other places that were scarred by IRA attacks during the troubles. A savvy Labour party (and others opponents of the Tories) will be able to use appointments like this hurt the Tories. This appointment hurts the Tories a lot and gains them very little. As we saw with Corbyn these things have a tendency influence the views of the voters.
Lord knows what Lady Thatcher would have made of the ennobling of Claire Fox. If you want to know why people are so enraged at the ennobling of Claire Fox this article and this article will give you an idea.
