I just really wanna talk about eggs in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
SPOILERS for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes below.
Tumblr media
Ok, so ya know how in the beginning Noa has to find an egg of his own for his hunting ceremony the next day?
But unfortunately, as Mae tries to escape, she shoves against him and she breaks his egg?
Spoiler images below. You have been warned!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eggs have a lot of symbolic meanings. They often represent life, fertility, and rebirth.
Broken eggs can also have different meanings, both good and bad. It can be considered a bad omen. A loss of life.
But they can also mean a sign of change and new beginnings. Noa's broken egg is the reason why he goes out in the middle of the night, which leads to him finding Proximus' apes, which leads to them finding his horse, which then leads the apes to Noa's village.
A broken egg can also symbolize a transformation and breaking out of one's shell. Think of a baby chick breaking out of its egg for the first time and transforming into something new.
Oh, and do you guys know what Lightning calls Noa?
"Welcome home, baby bird."
And I think it's interesting that it's Mae who breaks his egg. She is the start of his change. She shattered the protective shell around him and his world, and yeah, it sucks and it brings a lot of pain, but this breaking of his shell means the ending of one chapter of his life and the start of a new one. Their paths are intertwined and they will be each other's catalysts.

Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes comes out next month…
Please let there be female ape characters with speaking roles/actually are involved in the plot! We didn’t get that with Cornelia or Lake and Bright Eyes hardly had much screen time despite, arguably, being the one to start everything in Rise.
This will also be the first Planet of The Apes movie since Disney bought the franchise along with other Fox properties so I’m really hoping it doesn’t suck (or at least much, much better than Wish or other movies they’ve made lately).

KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: Several generations after Caesar's rule, apes became the dominant species, living in harmony while humans are forced into the shadows. A new tyrant, Proximus Caesar, established his empire near a military bunker he seeks to breach and make the technology his own. Noa, a young ape, embarks on a perilous journey when Proximus Caesar's scouts destroy his village while searching for a human. Noa's quest to reunite with his tribe and bring them home leads him to question everything he knew about the past and make decisions that will reshape the future of both apes and humans.
REVIEW: Under the helm of director Wes Ball and the creative guidance of screenwriter Josh Friedman, a new chapter in the "Planet of the Apes" saga unfolds, transporting audiences back to the familiar world. This captivating tale builds upon the events of "War for the Planet of the Apes," setting the stage for a captivating narrative that takes place several generations later.
The film begins by tying up loose ends from 2017's "War for the Planet of the Apes." It establishes how Caesar's legacy will shape the new saga, paying homage to the films of the 60s and 70s. The narrative merges the classic hero's journey with the "Planet of the Apes" universe. Consequences for the hero's actions are strictly enforced within this framework. Rather than providing a backstory through dialogue, the film cleverly uses visuals to convey necessary information. The film's logic is meticulously crafted and thrillingly executed, revealing that Noa's tribe raises eagles. This unexpected element is employed for its implications later in the story. The narrative revolves around contrasting characters. I found Raka, an orangutan who might be the last of a priestly order dedicated to preserving, though flawed, Caesar's original message, to be a particularly interesting character. The film establishes context and raises questions about the events leading to Proximus Caesar's rise. A human character, played by William H. Macy, reads to Proximus and appears to be an engineer. While intriguing, this character felt underdeveloped and lacking depth, resembling a Shakespearean jester who meets a predictable demise.
The narrative concludes Noa's tale, but it also poses questions that hint at potential story arcs for future films. Multiple storylines remain unresolved and will likely be explored in subsequent installments of the film series.
The narrative pays homage to the entire "Planet of the Apes" universe by adeptly utilizing dialogue, visuals, and musical score. There are several remarkable moments that I'll refrain from spoiling here. Unlike the iconic moment at the end of the original film, the filmmakers subtly incorporate familiar landmarks into the backgrounds, evoking a sense of location, the passage of time, and a touch of surprise as nature has reclaimed the landscape. One particular scene, in which several elements seamlessly converge, embodies the universe in a way that truly gave me goosebumps.
The production values in the film are closely tied to the current advancements in technology. Compared to the 2017 film, the motion and facial capture techniques have improved significantly, allowing for more nuanced and expressive performances from the actors. Additionally, the environments in the film are a hybrid of physical and CGI elements, creating breathtaking and photorealistic visuals. While I appreciated the production design overall, there was an aspect that I found questionable: the saddles on the horses appeared to be technologically more advanced than what would be expected of Noa's tribe or the other apes in the story.
The film "KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES" showcases a stellar ensemble cast. Owen Teague's portrayal of Noa captures a troubled innocence, torn between his commitment to the apes and the conflicting revelations he encounters outside his village. Freya Allan's performance as Mae surpasses anything seen in her previous roles, such as "The Witcher" series or "Gunpowder Milkshake." Allan brings a complex and surprising depth to the character. Peter Macon's creation of Raka is a standout, presenting a simple, kind, and naturally humorous cleric whose expressive moments leave a lasting impact. Kevin Durand, a seasoned actor, delivers a larger-than-life performance as Proximus Caesar, a character that is menacing, calculating, and captivating. While William H. Macy's performance is solid, but it feels underutilized compared to roles like Raka. It serves more as a functional character within the narrative rather than a fully developed role like the one Raka presents to Noa.
In the realm of the "Planet of the Apes" universe, KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES introduces a captivating epic tale. Approximately 50 years after the novel and film, the story deftly weaves contemporary and logical elements as it hints at a potential new film series. Unlike earlier installments, there are no atomic bombs, mutants, or time travel (at least not yet). Instead, the film skillfully incorporates elements from the entire "Apes" universe to deliver an emotionally resonant and satisfying cinematic experience for fans. The visuals are breathtaking, the action is pulse-pounding, and the performances are stellar. With the artisans from WETA, the same team behind the "Lord of the Rings" films, crafting this universe, it is no wonder that the result is a dazzling spectacle. Here's hoping the next installment will be equally impressive!

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (12): In Search of "Instant E-VO-LUTION"!
#onemannsmovies #filmreview of "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes". #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes. Superior monkey business. 4.5/5.
A One Mann’s Movies review of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” (2024). I always thought it would be a good pub trivia question: name the films in the latest Planet of the Apes trilogy in the right order. Many would probably correctly name “Rise of…”, “Dawn of…” and “War for…” but would they get them in the right order? To me, “Dawn” intuitively comes before “Rise” so I would probably get that…

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Trailer
Tumblr media
A new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has been released, revealing more about the new sequel movie in a world without Caesar. The new sequel will follow the former ape leader's son, Cornelius, on a new journey throughout post-apocalyptic Earth. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
youtube
The new movie in the reboot franchise will seemingly continue exploring the conflict between apes and humans as the former become Earth's dominant species. In the previous film, War for the Planet of the Apes, it was revealed the Simian Flu Pandemic had resulted in humans becoming more animalistic. This change in the dynamic between apes and humans will be further explored in the upcoming sequel. The rise of a tyrannical ape also underscores a possible conflict between Cornelius and this new ruler. Since the young ape has a lot to live up to given his father's leadership in earlier installments, this movie may reveal his own rise to power. This sets up the possibility of a future film that remakes the original Planet of the Apes, bringing the franchise full circle.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Review. More like Rambling and Word Vomiting.
I saw it last night. Finally. After so long!
Tumblr media
I personally thought it was good, and a solid addition to the POTA franchise. I don't think it's better than Dawn or War, but I'm willing to bet that by the time the full trilogy is out, Kingdom is gonna be looked back upon as a good beginning to Noa and Mae's story, the same way Rise, despite being most people's least favorite of the Caesar trilogy, is still an amazing intro to Caesar's story.
Some nitpicks. Despite the movie being 2.5 hours long, I felt like the final act came too fast? Like, I understand what people meant with the pacing issue. Suddenly we were in the 3rd act and I was like "Wait, we're here? It's done?"
Now, onto the characters! Let the fangirling commence!
Noa
I loved seeing how his journey and character started and where he ends by the end of the movie.
Tumblr media
Him going from "That is the law" to "That is the law. But the law is wrong" was so satisfying.
And him being able to call the eagles to him by the end was great to see. By the way, THE SINGING SCENE WITH THE EAGLES???? LIKE???? It could've been so corny but I LOVED IT???
I'm so glad this movie answered the question of whether apes can sing. Yeah, I know they are only humming, but I'LL TAKE IT. APES CAN SING. YESSSS!
He was just a really nice character to follow. I can't wait to see how he'll be like in the next movie after the events of this one transformed him.
I also think he is the kind of protagonist we need after Caesar. I love Caesar, but Noa is....hmm, I guess you could say softer? More naive? I'm sure he'll get tougher as the movies progress like Caesar did, but I like this change.
Mae
I am a Mae defender. Yes, she did betray Noa in the end. I expected her to tbh. And I understand why she did it. She was right in that Proximus getting his hands on those weapons would've been disastrous.
Tumblr media
She has probably been taught all her life nothing but bad things about the apes. She was not going to switch sides just because she met Noa. We still got two whole movies after this. She probably won't have her "redemption" until the 3rd movie. I can honestly go on rambling about her, but I'd rather save that for another separate post.
Raka
I really like him. He's great and funny. I love seeing how he talks about humans and his hopes for humans and apes.
Tumblr media
Right before he dies, he reminds Noa "Together, strong." His final words and his necklace as a gift to Noa serve as a reminder. A reminder of a hopeful future where apes and humans can coexist. (And then Noa passing along that same necklace to Mae? Bringing a reminder of that hope for peace into her world? Ugh. So good.)
Also, "He was my village." LIKE. DID HE LOSE HIS PARTNER? MY HEART.
Proximus
Tumblr media
I thought he was cool. He gave my mother and I a jump scare at the dinner scene where he slams his fist. Also, the way he was just in awe of the gun after Lightning dies. He has his priorities.
Soona and Anaya
Those two were so cute, and I loved their friendship with Noa.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anaya broke my heart. In the beginning at the tunnel scene, he's all like "Anaya is not scared." But at Proximus's kingdom, he looks terrified at the dinner scene, and before he goes on the mission to climb the wall, he goes "Anaya is scared" and didn't want to go. Poor guy. He pulled through in the end though.
Although *puts on tinfoil hat* this makes me wonder if this foreshadows how his fear will lead him to make a big mistake in the future movies. Similar to what happened with Winter.
Soona was so sweet. Although I'm disappointed we didn't get more of her with Noa. I saw an interview where Soona's actress described a moment where after they are reunited, they kind of make known their feelings for each other or something like that. But...it didn't happen?
Mae and Noa
Alrighty, I'm gonna briefly put on my shipping goggles on, bear with me, because one has to be a teensy bit delusional for this type of stuff, BUT....
Tumblr media
I sensed a....vibe? Not a romantic vibe. They are nowhere close to that yet. But I felt like there were tropes and scenes between them that simply imply a romantic path is a possible direction for their relationship. I will make a separate post about them. I wanna wrap this up, lol.
The ending
I liked the ending. It has me so excited for the future of this trilogy. Now that the humans are able to communicate with others, what will this mean? How will Mae be torn between her people and the apes? Same with Noa? I need to know naooooo
8.5/10 stars (I ain't done rambling about this movie yet. But it's my birthday, and I gotta go out and have some dinner, hehe).
