#Jules movie review

Tumblr media
I saw “Jules” - a new movie starring Ben Kingsley. It’s about an old man who discovers a flying saucer has crashed in his back yard. He tries to report it to 911 and even the town council, but no one believes him. Even before this, he has had issues with memory loss, and being one of the town’s old cranks. So that makes it difficult to get anyone to believe him.
Kingsley’s character befriends the alien that emerges from the ship. Soon two other town seniors learn about the UFO (and they argue whether to call him Jules or Gary).
The alien doesn’t talk, one of the women (played by Jane Curtin) thinks he has kind, understanding eyes. All three of them find themselves telling the alien stories about their lives, and opening up to him in a way that they can’t with anyone else.
But this isn’t a big scifi space invasion movie. The setup is to allow for an exploration of getting old, loss of independence, and friendship.
All three main actors do a great job. I particularly liked Harriet Sansom Harris. She doesn’t have a household name but you’ll recognize her from her many film and TV roles. In one scene she tells Jules about her lesbian daughter, who she openly accepts, but feels forgotten. It was very touching. As was a later scene when she thanks Jules for saving her life.
Oh! I forgot to mention… this wouldn’t be a scifi movie if the alien didn’t have some unusual powers. And you’ll never guess what Jules needs to power his ship!
You may not catch “Jules” in a theater, but if you notice it on a streaming service, check it out.

OBJECTUM MOVIE REVIEW: HER (2014)
Tumblr media
this movie is an insane fucking emotional rollercoaster, but it's really good at showing the relationship struggles of having a non-human partner like that. in this world, os / human relationships are normalized, but there is a short scene where theodore is being berated in public for his relationship. i do really appreciate how this movie shows relationships like this as not an insane concept though. theodore also shows a lot of growth in the movie. the ending is not awesome but no spoilers except for saying that the ending doesn't end with the dude forming a human relationship (which is GOOD.) this film also touches on objectophilia a little so if that makes you uncomfortable, either skip those parts or dont watch. 7/10 ⭐️
content warnings for the film if needed

Cinderella II: Dreams Come True (2002)
Tumblr media
Believe it or not, Cinderella II: Dreams Comes True ranks among the better straight-to-video Disney sequels. It does not belong in the same category as the original. Not even close. The animation is good - for a movie never meant to go to theaters. The voice actors sound enough like the cast of the 1950 movie to fool young viewers. No adult has any business sitting down and seriously watching this but if your kids LOVE Cinderella and they want a little bit more, for the low-low price of $0 - which is essentially what you pay for a movie on Disney+… - yeah, I’d recommend it.
Following her wedding to Prince Charming (voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes), Cinderella (voiced by Jennifer Hale) has moved inside the palace. There, her mice friends decide to put together a storybook of their favourite post-scullery maid adventures.
Though the film doesn’t appear to be an attempt to recoup losses following a cancelled television series, it's essentially split into three episodes with a wraparound story. The first chronicles Cinderella’s first official job as a princess: planning the annual banquet. Anyone who’s seen their fair share of children’s television will know the entire plot as soon as the story begins but it makes good use of the character. Cinderella isn’t like Ariel or even Snow White. She grew up knowing NOTHING of palace life. If anything, fancy gowns make her uncomfortable. She’s much more at ease in simple clothes cooking, cleaning and relating to common-folk rather than snooty royals. The fact that the film knows this and maintains it is refreshing.
The second segment is by far the weakest. In it, Jaq (voiced by Rob Paulsen) realizes he’s now of little use to Cinderella and gets her Fairy Godmother (voiced by Russi Taylor) to turn him into a human. Once again, you can foresee every development far ahead. What somewhat redeems this story is the amusing reversal. Before, the mice kinda-sorta took care of Cinderella. Now, they’re like little kids who want to impress mom and often get in the way. Though the status quo is inevitably re-established and this might make you think that the story has a message that counters the “Cinderella” story as a whole, it isn’t meant to. The moral is instead that even if you’re small, there are certain things you can contribute, certain things only you can do. Children will appreciate this lesson.
The final tale is easily the best. Actually, it’s the only reason to recommend the film. In it, Cinderella’s stepsister Anastasia (Tress MacNeille) falls for the town baker. Despite her mother’s objection, she allows Cinderella to help her pursue her heart’s desire.
What makes this story good is how much you can expand from it, even with how little we’re shown. If this were a traditional Grimm’s Fairy Tale, Cinderella would resent her stepsisters and stepmother. She would never dream of helping them out. This is a different Cinderella. She’s over what happened in the past - obviously, she came out on top in the end - and decides to do what she always does: respond to others with kindness. In her interactions with Anastasia, we get a lot to unpack. The sister complains that Cinderella always had it easy because she’s beautiful. Could it be that all of the mistreatment Cinderella faced before was caused by jealousy and insecurity? Is this the beginning of a redemption arc for a villain? In the scenes where Lady Tremaine (voiced by Susanne Blakeslee) scolds her daughter for pining after a commoner, we get hints of what life at the manor is now like. With her favourite target gone, Lady Tremaine takes her anger on her daughters and they’re too spoiled to ever make it into the real world. The upbringing she’s given them has had the opposite effect of what she wanted. Again, a lot of this is the viewer extrapolating what’s on-screen, but the beginning of those trails are there.
If someone took Cinderella II: Dreams Come True and really worked hard at it, they could make a great film. This is a true sequel, not simply a rehash or an uninspired rip-off of a story we’ve seen a million times. While there are dumb moments only the kids will like, this movie is for them. Actually, the audience isn't even that broad. It’s made for kids who specifically love Cinderella. For that demographic, it’s got enough sweet and funny moments to make it worth checking out once the grown-ups have finally gotten sick of seeing the same movie 30 times. (May 7, 2021)

Jules (2023)
An elderly man suffering from memory loss finds a UFO in his back yard. Slow paced quiet kind of movie starring Ben Kingsley and featuring Jane Curtain.
It's a nifty little film that I enjoyed. It would be a good one to watch with parents. Older children may enjoy it too. The one violent scene is very brief and mostly off screen.

"By what right are you holding me here?" "We have bigger guns, Sir."
I liked the part with the blimpcycle.
An entertaining story, chock full of tongue-in-cheek depictions of ridiculous Victorian-era sci-fi machines. Not to mention all the fun things like underwater cyclists ringing their handlebar bells, giant octopi attacks, and news reels about rollerskating camels.
The plot was a straightforward blend of different Jules Verne stories, but it kept up a decent pace, and there was rarely a dull moment. The whole thing was tied together nicely by a dramatic score, with some very pleasant melodies to accompany the gorgeous visuals.
I cannot stress enough how fantastic every single thing in this movie looked. All the sets, costumes, stop-motion, and traditionally animated effects were just incredible. Everything was done up in the style of a meticulously detailed line engraving, as though illustrations from the novels had come to life, and the payoff for this extraordinary effort was immense.
A fun, stylish adventure. I had a great time with this one.

Sunday | Week In Review I
Tumblr media
So in order to try and be consistent with this, I’ve kept a running Notes page open to keep track of my week.
As I mentioned last week, I don’t expect this every week, I am me. But I am going to keep trying to make an effort to support my fellow creators.
If there’s something you’ve enjoyed this week, please feel to reblog this and tag me so I can check it out and share 💙
Also, not that I feel it needs to be said, but this is a reflection of what I have personally read and enjoyed.
B x
Truly Betty Updates This Week…
New York Part I (Marcus Pike x f!reader)
Fics I Enjoyed This Week…
Conversations with a Movie Star | Chapter 1 by @gnpwdrnwhiskey Even if you’re not a fan of Dieter Bravo, the dialogue in this alone is worth checking out this opening chapter for this new fic. Ava is an OFC down on her luck after being fired, from her families paper no less, and has stumbled across the Bravo Inn… I’ll let Lellen’s writing do the rest
Stripper Jack Trilogy | P. III by @psychedelic-ink The conclusion of maybe the definitive trilogy of trilogies? I don’t think anyone had Stripper Jack on their 2023 bingo cards, but he’s earned his space and I won’t have any arguments on it.
Hungry Hearts | Chapter by @atinylittlepain Not many Joel AU’s I’ll jump into, but Bruce Springsteen and Joel Miller? Signed myself the fuck up for that as soon as it was announced. The unfolding of Joel and Cherry's relationship in the summer of '86 against them running back into one another 17 years later is such a great dynamic.
Fall Apart Again | Chapter 1 + 2 by @wildemaven Heidi spoiled us this week, with not one, but TWO chapters of her new Joel fanfic. I don’t think I’ve gotten so emotional over an opening chapter to a fic before like I did with this one! Then the second chapter? Just bury me now… but actually don’t, I want to see the end of this fic first!
The Layover | Chapter 9 by @goodwithcheese How did Megan describe her fanfics? Hallmark movies with smut? She's not wrong. This whole series so far has been a rollercoaster of emotions and keeps delivering each week without fail. Not only are you rooting for Reader + Frankie, but Jules and Santiago anyone? Or maybe just Jules herself because she's just the boss.
Late Night Texts | Chapter 9 by @mvtthewmurdvck I think it's safe to say it's fanfics like Late Night Texts that have got me back in my rom-com/hopeless romantic era. I don't want to give too much away if you've not had the pleasure of reading this - but it has all the hallmarks of a good rom-com set on the backdrop of the early 2000s and with Javier Peña. If you're like me and still trying to make your way through Narcos or haven't watched it yet - please don't let it stop you, you won't be sorry!
A Little FaceTime by @stardustandskycrystals I’m still thinking about this fic days later and may have gone back to read it again. Trust me, just read this - you don’t need an explanation or reason, just read it. Even if Javi isn’t your jam (wasn’t on my list before, that’s all changed now) - it won’t disappoint!
Things I’m Looking Forward to Starting…
Decoherence by @prolix-yuy Westworld and Jack ‘Agent Whiskey’ Daniels crossover, yes, please! It is also reminding me that I never finished season one and should do something about it…
Pleased to Meet You by @intheorangebedroom This is a constant on my dash and on my TBR pile for a while with so many good comments - also getting into my Frankie era, so it’s perfect timing!
The Pilot & His Girl by @avastrasposts Been waiting to savour this one! So you’ve got the Last of Us and you’ve got Triple Frontier, two of my favourite things… what happens when you mush them together? You get a wild ride through the outbreak with Frankie & Reader - I cannot wait to get into this!
Visiting by @ladamedusoif This is another regular on my dash and on my TBR that I’m hoping to get stuck into this week. A college AU of Mr. Ben from the SNL sketch. Fully fleshed out and on the backdrop of New England, I’m ready to get swept away with this promise of a slow burn.
The House by @gemmahale A Jack Daniels x OFC (Best Friend) series coming soon focusing on a long-lost friendship, an inheritance, and Jack sounding like the scallion he is? Cannot wait.
Posts I Enjoyed This Week…
@rhoorl’s announcement of their Triple Frontier AU, Delta Landscaping with mood board and logo! The residents of Tumblr won’t know what’s hit the neighbourhood when they roll into town!
Thanks to @gnpwdrnwhiskey I will never look at baby hippos without thinking of Dieter Bravo
Tumblr media
Everyone’s participation in the WIP poll tag game, it was so fun to see my dash just filled with so many creative people and so many amazing ideas! It was a neat peek into everyone’s draft folders!
Things I’ve Enjoyed This Week…
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - FINALLY got to see it this week, and it did not disappoint. Have not stopped thinking about it since!
My rom-com era has returned, and I’m deep into embracing my forgotten love of a good rom-com. So far this week it’s been The Lake House, You’ve Got Mail & Always Be My Baby. Also it gave way to a Keanu Reeves appreciation post, come share your favourite Keanu!
This Week’s Song… Went waaaayyyy back for this one, an amazing album too - the Sterephonics are one of my favourite bands of all time 🩶
Hope everyone has a great Sunday & here's to a new week!
Please feel free to share your own favourites from the week or what you're looking forward to this week - not a tag game, so no pressure for you to share if you're not feeling it ❤️ xx

Kaiju Week in Review (February 19-25, 2023)
Tumblr media
Those of you who've been around here for a while may recall the Kickstarter campaign for a documentary called Kaiju Gaiden, which aimed to interview directors of underseen independent kaiju films. I stress the campaign because despite clearing its $25,000 funding goal, the documentary was never completed. Director David Hall apparently took the money and ran, and while producer Mark Jaramillo vowed to finish the film, his last update was in 2018. Jaramillo also stopped posting on his personal Facebook page the same year. Myself and pretty much everyone else who gave the project a backwards glance figured he had simply given up and withdrawn from fandom to avoid further embarrassment. Or perhaps something had happened in his personal life that was more pressing than chronicling the adventures of a wolfman and some funny lizards. Kaiju Gaiden entered the (alarmingly voluminous) annals of kaiju vaporware, alongside the likes of Godzilla Zero Hour and Colossal Kaiju Combat.
Well, something did happen in his personal life. Fucking hell, did it happen. As Jules L. Carrozza revealed last Saturday, Jaramillo was in prison until recently for distributing child pornography online. I've been in touch with someone who's looked into this horrid story beyond what's available through Google (i.e. PACER), and they've confirmed that this is no case of mistaken identity. They also shared excerpts from the sentencing report. I will spare you the vile details. Suffice to say the man is a monster of the kind I wish only existed in the movies. He had started posted on Facebook again in October like nothing had happened, and I'm extremely grateful Carrozza came forward before he could stage some triumphant return at G-Fest or another con.
I aim to have Wikizilla's Kaiju Gaiden page updated by early next week; I feel bad for taking so long, but I want our citations to be unquestionable and can't search PACER myself until Monday. I also regret not including all this in the last week in review, since it did fall under its scope, if only just. Truth be told, I didn't know how the hell to present it alongside more routine kaiju news, Godziban especially.
I also wanted to give good old @kaijusaurus time to complete his Edward Snowden act. Back at G-Fest XXIII in 2016, Jaramillo transferred to him a bunch of indie tokusatsu obscurities and asked him to keep them to himself. Well, suffice to say that promise is off, and he's deposited the lot on archive.org and (when possible) YouTube. Give them a watch and let their lo-fi simplicity remind you why you fell in love with this stuff.
I'm glad they can be out in the world. Kaiju Gaiden ultimately made many of them less visible than they could have been until now. If you couldn't make it to G-Fest, you were shit out of luck. For those of us who could, those memories are thoroughly tainted. Mark Jaramillo didn't make any of them, and they don't deserve to be associated with him. His most enduring contribution to the kaiju genre will be playing a CIA agent in the excruciating God Raiga vs. King Ohga: War of the Monsters... alongside David Hall. Good fucking riddance.

I am BEGGING you to watch Strange World. It’s a really great movie - funny, gorgeous, creative, fantastical, engaging characters. Its low reviews are literally just because the main character is gay. That’s not an exaggeration, I spent 20 minutes scrolling through the audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and literally every single negative review is a variation on “not appropriate for the cHiLdREn”.
If you haven’t heard of it - because Disney didn’t market it - it’s a takeoff of old adventure novels and comics, classic Jules Verne type stuff. Lots of fun imaginative steampunk tech, lots of cool creature design. It’s basically Journey to the Center of the Earth but with cuteness and funniness and interesting familial relationships and also the main character is a hardcore board game nerd. Also the end will make you tear up. If you liked Treasure Planet or Atlantis: the Lost Empire, it’s very much like those.
Cannot recommend it highly enough, please watch it.

Femme 2023 is described as a queer erotic thriller, a violent sexy revenge story. It's rated 18 in the UK and absolutely deserves the age rating for sex, violence, violent sex and plenty of blurry lines between. Definitely look up doesthedogdie or unconsenting media first.
The problem with comparing it to the 90s erotic thrillers like Fatal Attraction or Basic Instinct is you don't know if the reviewer's going from the mainstream understanding of those films or the queer or feminist reading of those messy relationships, those complex women.
[ side note: the string of sex scenes was a LOT even by eurotrash/netflix-cut-to-thrusting standards, I mean that in a "Dude, that's an awful lot of thrills mistaken for exhilaration without realizing this might not be great" way. But it had been a while since i've seen an erotic thriller and that framing might be par for the course. I'm not watching 50 Shades to compare any time soon.
Then again, there are an awful lot of straight movies/shows with lots of banging and not much crackle. Especially for me: if there's no character development in an intimate scene it's really obvious to us aces. ]
If we are taking those women as far more interesting than simple villains, if we are interested in revenge as a motivation and not necessarily a resolution, then this film fits the genre. It's quite the addition.
-------------------
Let's just say that for me, this film wasn't about two protags, it was about one man's journey to reclaim his sense of self and that path was as messy and uncontrollable and hard to understand as real life often gets after a traumatic event.
Sometimes the beginning of healing is as much about reclaiming the narrative on a social level and on a personal level as it is about reclaiming your own self from your internal multiverse of 'what if's and 'if only's.
Jules tries on many personas and desires for size, fumbles the classic hollywood revenge plots, but the open ending is very much The End... and also the beginning of Jules, who now knows who he is and what he wants.
----------------------
Absolute white-knuckle ride of a film, disturbing and relatable, great examination of the performances of masculinity and how men relate to other men. I really appreciate that the film didn't try to 'both side' it and gave us some layering to the characters.
Nathan Stewart-Jarrett is electrifying and if you don't know his work that well, assume Jules/Aphrodite is in his late 20s.

OBJECTUM MOVIE REVIEW: ELECTRIC DREAMS (1984)
Tumblr media
okay so i’m starting by saying this movie is Awesome. its awesome as fuck as hell. if you’re here for any sort of formal review, then i’m so sorry bc it’s not gonna be. yes, this movie is a cheesy 80’s rom-com. no, i don’t give a shit. it’s silly and real as hell! my only complaint is that i wish the computer got a happy ending. i really recommend this movie to anyone who is techum because it shows good romantic and platonic attraction (it’s only platonic if u don’t realize miles and edgar are gay). 8.5/10 ⭐️

Back to the Future: The Animated Series, s01ep03 "Forward to the Past" Review and Commentary
Onto episode 3! Previous episodes linked HERE.
In this episode: Doc invents something a supervillain would love to get their hands on, Marty is hit by a car, and Doc wipes humanity off the face of the Earth.
As many of you know, we were cheated out of a portion of Real Doc content last episode–due to the segment at the beginning being cut. This time, though, we get to see him right away. :) He's hanging out in 3,000,000 B.C. with the dinosaurs, and he's—he's doing great, everyone. He is cool, calm, and collected.
Tumblr media
Doc begins to tell us about another time that he, Jules, and Verne were almost "dino snacks," which brings us into the cartoon portion. Goodbye for now, Real Doc. I'll be counting the minutes until I see you again.
Cartoon Doc is showing the boys his "proprietary subatomic ultrasonic molecular redistributor", which is basically a vacuum that breaks down the molecular structure of an object and disintegrates it. Which. I dunno, sounds dangerous to me. You could destroy a person with that thing. Just rip them apart molecule by molecule. Terrifying invention, Doc.
His intention is for it to be utilized at landfills, however, NOT to annihilate people. Jules wants to test it out, but Doc is worried about causing an accident if it malfunctions. He reveals that, in 1961, an experiment gone wrong caused him to accidentally break "every window in the Greater Hill Valley-Medfield Basin." And I know this is just a silly cartoon and not necessarily in line with any canon happenings of the actual BTTF universe, but this is a fun one to imagine as actually having happened. What in the world was Doc working on? How did he break every single window in that specific area?
Anyway, he decides a safe place to test it would be prehistoric times. And as SOON as the DeLorean busts out of the garage and takes off at full speed into the yard, Marty is suddenly there. Pinned to the windshield.
Tumblr media
Doc screams in horror and slams on the brakes, sending Marty flying several feet away.
Tumblr media
There he goes. See ya, Marty. I love this show.
So, turns out that Marty was on his way over to the lab and got no warning that Doc was about to come flying out. Yes, he was hit by a speeding car. No, don't worry; he's completely fine. (This is Marty, after all) He immediately gets up and tells Doc that he needs to honk or give him a hand signal before he takes off like that. No biggie.
Marty hands Verne a videotape of a movie Jennifer has apparently filmed, in which Marty is the star. And that's–that's it. Doc tells him they don't have time (yes you do, Doc. You're in a time machine) and catapults up into the sky via a very large slingshot. I assume this tape will come into play later.
Literal seconds after arriving in the Cretaceous Period, Doc and the boys are chased by a T-Rex and then carried away by a pteranodon.
Tumblr media
There was definitely a better place to test out your molecule destroyer, Doc. If you'd tried, you probably could've thought of like 10 other options before visiting the dinos. You just like to complicate things and cause chaos.
Thankfully, the dinosaur is friendly and just takes them for a little ride before safely depositing them back by the DeLorean. Doc is just about to take the boys to test his atom-destroyer when they spot a giant meteor headed straight towards Earth!! After a brief moment of panic, Doc realizes his molecular redistributor might be able to disintegrate the meteor, but he needs additional power. 1.21 gigawatts, to be exact. He's able to get this power by rerouting the Mr. Fusion through the car battery. And just like that, he zaps the meteor and saves the day! The whole crisis lasts like 20 seconds, honestly; they figure it out pretty quickly.
So...Doc just prevented a major meteorological event from happening. They're surrounded by dinosaurs, and he stopped a giant meteor from hitting Earth. This will come back to bite him.
As they return to the car and prepare to leave, they discover that the battery is dead. It's not because of the Mr. Fusion thing, though, it's because Verne was sitting in the car and watching the videotape Marty gave him.
Tumblr media
I have no clue what is going on here.
Also, can I talk about how weird it is that Marty is in this show so little so far? He was in a good deal of episode 1, but only had 5 seconds of screen time in episode 2 and only about 30 seconds so far in this one. Where is he? Where is my Mart-Mart? Also, where is Clara again?
Doc decides they can try to power the car using lemons. No, really. There is a convenient lemon tree grove nearby, and they connect copper, aluminum, and wires to hundreds of lemons and then run it all back to the car. Upon arriving back to 1991 Hill Valley, they find it to look almost identical to the Cretaceous Period. Surprise! Preventing a huge meteor from wiping out the dinosaurs actually had consequences!
Except. Um. They're not exactly the consequences I would have assumed would happen. Instead of dinos just sort of running rampant all over, they've evolved to the point of wearing clothes and driving cars? But they still look exactly like dinosaurs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a screenshot of the DeLorean next to the tire of a dinosaur car and one of a bunch of dinos wearing clothes.
It's all very silly. You know, except for the realization Doc suddenly has that everybody is dead. Or rather, they never even existed in the first place. Doc has literally wiped out all of human existence because he thought prehistoric times would be the perfect place to test out his molecular redistributor. May I remind you that Doc was against testing it in present-day because he didn't want to cause another incident like whatever happened in 1961 that caused all the windows of everybody's houses to break. Now he's gone and created a timeline without any people. Thumbs up, Doc. At least you didn't break any windows!
Tumblr media
Here is Doc, sadly staring at a photo containing three of his loved ones whose existence has been obliterated. I do think it's cute that Marty was included in the family photo, though.
Obviously, Doc, Jules, and Verne must go back to the Cretaceous Period moments after their other selves have left and use the molecular redistributor (set to reverse) to put the meteor back in the sky. They complete their mission and leave mere seconds prior to impact.
We return to present day, where the car appears just as Marty is delivering the punchline of a joke to Einstein (he told the first half of it right after Doc and the boys left earlier in the episode. It's the classic, "Why'd the nerd throw the clock out the window? Because he wanted to see time fly," joke lol) Doc and the boys are reunited with Marty and Einie–still an alarming lack of Clara, though–and that's the end of the cartoon portion. BACK TO REAL DOC!!!
Real Doc makes a joke about making sure to bring his running shoes next time he visits prehistoric times. He's wearing an absurd amount of watches and an awesome shirt. Look at him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, this scene led me on a mini-quest to find the origins of the "___ went to ___ and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" thing. Because this is a really specific joke that relies on being aware of the trend of these shirts being sold as souvenirs. My research was inconclusive, though it seems that it may have started somewhere in the 1970s. Interesting! Now I'm curious: tell me in the comments or tags if you've ever owned or seen one of these shirts being sold at a tourist destination.
That's all for now. Join me next time to see Marty accused of witchcraft and put on trial.

I am so absolutely and completely exhausted with Disney right now. This disrespect to animation as a medium is so frustrating.
The fact that and I 100% believe they did sabotage Strange World is so incredibly disappointing. Because they’ve done it before! They did the same with Treasure Planet!
I don’t know about you but I know nothing about the movie! I’ve seen no advertisements. The only thing I’ve seen was a banner on Disney+ telling me it was out in theaters!
Where they afraid to promote because of the representation? Looking up reviews is annoying because it’s filled with people who have religious views that don’t align with the fact that the main character is gay which I didn’t know until after the movie came out.
Im genuinely curious to see if this movie is good. After seeing trailers. It has an interesting vibe. I love adventure movies and it’s giving me Jules Verne!
Still! They did this to the Owl House, Treasure Planet and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did the same to Atlantis! I’m not saying every movie that does bad was sabotaged but I do feel something is up.

Blue Velvet & The Goth Song That Was Going To Feature Its Soundtrack
The scene in Blue Velvet where Jeffrey and Sandy slow dance together to the beat of Julee Cruise's hopeful yet heart-wrenching dream pop song "Mysteries of Love" is probably one of the most beautiful scenes in the movie. However, it wasn't the case originally.
In late 1984, gothic dream pop collective This Mortal Coil would release their first album "It'll End In Tears". This Mortal Coil was a collective of artists signed to the alternative music label 4AD in the eighties, and it would mostly cover folk and rock songs from other artists (from Big Star to Talking Heads).
The second track of It'll End In Tears is a cover of Tim Buckley's "Song To The Siren", performed by Liz Fraser and Robin Guthrie of gothic dream pop group Cocteau Twins, who also covered Roy Harper's "Another Day" in the same album.
David Lynch had particularly grown fond of This Mortal Coil's version of Tim Buckley's classic, and it was his favourite song around the time Blue Velvet was filming in 1985. They even rehearsed the dance sequence with This Mortal Coil's cover during the filming of the movie.
However, the rights to This Mortal Coil's cover of Song To The Siren were particularly expensive, something Lynch couldn't afford due to the small budget of the movie.
So instead, Lynch and Badalamenti composed Mysteries of Love with Julee Cruise (who also made the french horn cover of the instrumental for the movie!), giving it a completely different feel than This Mortal Coil's. Instead of something haunting and sad, it gave something heavenly and pure, which only intensified Sandy's prediction.
Lynch finally ended up using This Mortal Coil's Song To The Siren eleven years later in Lost Highway. Though one could say the gothic elements of Blue Velvet are not all gone if we just take a look at Jeffrey's black wardrobe throughout the movie!
