Mama
Summary: Jesper calls Morticia 'mama' for the first time during the Addams Family Christmas Gala
Warnings: Hurt/comfort, panic attack, social anxiety, loud noises trigger
A/n: Jesper Addams is my own personal OC and insert character. He is 15 in this work.
Morticia kissed her husband before floating away from the dance floor, shooting him a playful grin as she went to retrieve a blood red wine. She took a delicate sip, humming as she listened to the blaring music and laughing.
The decorations sparkled brightly overhead, a large christmas tree at the corner of the room. This was one of her favorite times of the year, when the family would come together to give gifts and celebrate another year.
But looking out over the ballroom, she failed to notice a certain face she was looking for. Her and Gomez's eldest son, Jesper, was nowhere to be seen. She had been so excited to have him at the party, to finally be able to introduce her first born after years of separation.
He had been stolen from her and Gomez when he was a baby. He had only returned to them after he had taken a genetics test and sought them out. And of course, the Addams family welcomed the long lost son with open arms.
But now, he was nowhere to be seen. For a moment, panic overtook Morticia and she looked helplessly around. Her anxiety was only lessened when she spotted the raven haired, brown eyed boy sitting in the corner. She noticed, painedly, that he looked upset.
"My dear," Morticia said as she walked over to him, sitting down next to her son. "What's the matter, my little rat?"
"N-nothing, mother." Jesper whispered, leg tapping rapidly. "It..It's just a lot of people. And very loud..." He scratched the back of his neck.
"You have your father's nervous habits." Morticia noted, a faint smile gracing her lips as she recognized how much her son had turned out like Gomez.
Jesper nodded rapidly, "Mother, I believe I'm having a panic attack."
He had gotten better at expressing his emotions since he'd joined the Addams clan. At first, he'd never tell her anything, burst into tears at odd times and turn to rage at others. But slowly, he had opened up about his anxiety and fears. So when he told Morticia he believed he was having a panic attack, she just nodded and lead him out the door.
Gomez intercepted her before she followed her son. "What's going on...?" He asked quietly, worry furrowing his brow.
"Jesper is feeling overwhelmed, darling." Morticia explained, "Do you remember where he might've left his headphones?"
"I believe they may be in the kitchen, he was helping Grandmama cook this morning. The stove was in a bad mood." Gomez said, nodding softly.
Morticia gave him a quick kiss, smiling at the smudge of lipstick on his lips. "Thank you, mon sauvage." She smiled before turning and following Jesper out of the ballroom.
He was standing in the hall, hands shakily and leg tapping as he hyperventilated under his breath. Morticia walked past him and down to the kitchen, returning a moment later with his headphones. Jesper took them happily and put them on, trying to tell himself that he was safe. His mother joined in the soft murmuring, rubbing his shoulder and encouraging him to calm.
"I've got you, my little rat..." She said quietly, now noticing what must've triggered this. The trumpets would screech every so often, blaring in contrast to the soft Christmas tunes.
"T-thank you, mama..." Jesper leaned into her arms, calming so much he hadn't noticed how the name had struck her speechless. "C-can we go back to the party? I feel ok now..."
Morticia nodded, cupping her son's face and admiring his eyes. "..Of course, my boy." She leaned over and kissed his forehead. "Go on, I'll be right behind you."
"O-ok...I love you, mama!" Again, Jesper didn't seem to notice the tears welling in Morticia's eyes.
As Jesper ran to join the festivities, Gomez exited to check on Morticia. "My darling, you look radiant...Rrrravishing!" He purred, snaking his arm around her waist. He examined her face and noticed the tears welling in her eyes. "Cara mia, what has happened? Why are you upset??"
Morticia pressed a hand to Gomez's chest and looked up at him in awe. His brow furrowed in question as she rested her head on his shoulder. "I'm not upset, my love."
"Then why are you crying?" He asked.
"...Jesper called me mama." She said quietly. "Not mother...Not Mrs. Addams...Mama." She smiled brightly and sniffled, leaning into her husband as he smiled softly.
"He's settling..." Gomez hummed, kissing his wife's head. "Cara mia, let us go for a walk, hm?? We can join the festivities later."
It was as if her husband had read her mind. Mama. She smiled brightly at her son through the doorway, speaking with cousin IIT and Uncle Fester. Then, she and Gomez made their way outside.

for people who haven’t read the shadow and bone/ six of crows books, but have seen the show:
- inej ghafa is a survivor of childhood sex trafficking. she has ptsd and reacts in a panic attack at even walking past the menagerie
- kaz’s trauma isn’t just pekka rollins being responsible for jordie’s death, and waking up on the barge. he had to swim to shore, age nine and barely alive, using jordie’s body as a float
- the darkling has done far worse things than are shown on screen. he is not a ‘lost man’ and alina is not his ‘balance’
- alina was seventeen upon the darkling being nsfw/ romantic with her
- matthias helvar did not lead drüskelle, that was jarl brum- matthias is only just barely an adult himself
- the crows are not their own separate gang, they are part of the dregs, who per haskell leads and kaz takes over from haskell after haskell sold out his lieutenant (kaz) to pekka rollins
- zoya, genya, and alina have personalities outside of either being traumatised or hating each other
- alina never wanted any of the power and fame and idolatry, and in the end of the books is stripped of it all. she is very happy about this
- jesper is a gambling addict and somebody who watched the death of his mother

I mentioned this vaguely a bit ago but I think each of Inej's six knives can be argued to all match up to one of the crows. You can probably swap a few of them and some are stronger than others, but:
Petyr: archers, reknowned for his bravery = Inej; 'the heart is an arrow', 'lovely and brave and better...', and it was her first knife, a gift from Kaz
Lizabeta: flowers and gardens = Matthias; the yellow tulips, laid out in the Van Eck garden
Alina: orphans and undiscovered gifts = Nina, who was raised in an orphanage and fought in the Second Army like Alina, and has a very new and undiscovered gift after parem alters her power
Marya: those far from home = Wylan, the runaway; plus his mother's name is Marya!
Anastasia: the sick = Jesper; there are many kinds of sickness, and both were grisha in hiding with their father after their mother's death
Vladimir: the drowned, unlikely achievement = Kaz, birthed (...) in the harbour, emerged to repeatedly achieve the impossible
