also, im pretty sure the devs forgot Ammy is a girl™️ halfway into the game bc they have her salivating after at least half the women that Issun is and im here for a bisexual (and bigender side eyes Shiranui) goddess that becomes a wolf on the regular, good for him

ok i dont know why it never occurrd to me that issuns legs would be hella strong
Poncles are really strong just in general, but Issun's particularly ripped 'cause he travels a lot, a year of which he did so on his own, so without Ammy as a mount. It's probably like that for all the Celestial Envoys since they get out the most.
#Okami#Okami Issun#btw I'm also pretty convinced that Ishaku functioned primarily as basically moral support for Shiranui#'cause I just passed the first fight with Orochi#and Ammy seems genuinely shocked that Issun is able to lift (and yeet) that sake jug#which implies she either forgot what Poncles are capable of physically#(which is very likely she was stone for a century)#or that Ishaku wasn't as hands-on during their journey as Issun is#I'm figuring it's the latter because it's not revealed that Shiranui travelled alongside a Poncle until you get to Kamui#which means very few people actually knew about Ishaku#(even Issun seems shocked to learn this when you go through the spirit gate which also means Ishaku just never told him :/)#whereas Issun functions basically as Ammy's voice#I feel like if Ishaku functioned that way for Shiranui it would've gotten mentioned *way* before Kamui#either in the form of how Oki describes it (wolf and pint-sized warrior)#or in the form of the villagers from 100 years ago having assumed Shiranui could talk#which I feel like would've gotten mentioned in the retelling of the legend if that were the case#as a talking fucking wolf is kind of a big deal lol

im playing okamiden for the first time since 2011 and oog I really loved it back then and I still do enjoy it but now that I’ve played okami several more times in the years since I do now get why people didn’t like it
like I got to the part with shiruanui and it really is just a clusterfuck lmao, ishaku introducing them as shiranui even though it was made clear in the last game he knew that wasnt her real name, and the whole grandson thing??? insinuating that shiranui is ammy’s father?? what??? why??? shiranui is consistently referred to ‘you in the past’ when issun speaks to amaterasu so how does that make sense???
#sorry im rlly into okami again#i actually did a bunch of art im gonna post here in a batch once it's all inked#there's more stuff i don't like about it now tho like the sense of exploration is gone#and the story/characters/dialogue feels like such an immense step down#like take the scene with raiden where he just#randomly revives a guy and then decides he's now at peace and can move on#it happens in all of 20 seconds and you're shoehorned into going into the scene instead of just organically coming across it#the childhood nostalgia hasn't entirely saved this game for me but i am still having fun fdshfjdas

Do you have any favorite Okami character pairings? (Platonic or romantic, whichever!)
No romantic ones, but my favorite platonic pairing is Ammy & Issun. I have read,,, wayyy too many fics of them in my time. They took up my brain 24/7 for SEVERAL months back when I first finished the game hgfwehjkh. I ADORE them. Issun is my favorite in general so I'm biased by oh my GOD I love them.
Similarly I'm also obsessed with Ammy(/Shiranui) & Ishaku, especially because they seem to have a similar dynamic except with the added bonus of the reuniting-after-100-years-but-one-doesn't-remember-the-other emotions.
Aaaand I'm also soft for Ammy & Chibi if we're including Okamiden because 1) you just KNOW Ammy would make a fantastic mom and 2) adorable mother and child pairing is adorable mother and child pairing.
