My Encanto AU where Isabela finds a little imperfect runty male lion cub with the same birthmark under his left eye, the same as Isabela. (Haha coincidence lol) She named him Etel! Which means “loyal friend” in Spanish.
The story starts when Isabela finds him in her flower garden, a day before the movie plot starts and takes him in and gives him a bath. She kinda avoided Abuela because she didn’t know how she would react to this little guy.
But, as they were walking down the hall they had accidentally crossed paths with Abuela. Abuela told her that Isabela couldn’t keep him and Isabela had to do what she was told, so she put Etel in a basket with a blanket and walks to were the forest was. Then Isabela started to get second thoughts on whether this was a good idea or not to abandon this cub.
Isabela decided that it wasn’t right to leave him all alone in a forest where there was a possibility of other, bigger animals that might hurt him or even kill him. So she caught him and picked him back up before he could run off and explore and put him back in the basket and covered his entire little body to hide him so she could sneak by and hide him in her room and from Abuela.
She hated how she had to lie to her Abuela to protect the little lion cub but she knew she had to do it, do to how little Etel was.
So, Etel was hiding in Isabela’s room while she brought him food. But, after Antonio’s gift ceremony, Isabela let him have a little more freedom to explore around more since there were other animals in Antonio’s room, so no one, especially Abuela wouldn’t bat an eye on Etel, Even if he was following Isabela all the time.
Etel helps Isabela cope (like a therapy animal) from her pressure of being perfect all the time and to cope for that fact she has to marry Mariano, who she doesn’t like and has no interest in at all. (Isabela is aroace in my AU)
My AU’s message is that platonic love is still around and always will be, and that you don’t need romance to still be loved by your family.
