Hey guys I need Indipop and Bollywood recommendations. It’s for a character playlist and the only criteria for it is “cursing is allowed but pls keep sex stuff to a minimum this character is young” and “something she can dance to.” inspirational “you can do it” songs and songs for #girlpower would also be good

A-T-3 257 The Ganges Orchestra - The Dream
Steve Coe's band Monsoon, with his wife and former Grange Hill star Sheila Chandra, released their sole album Third Eye in 1983. Due to dispute with their label Phonogram by the time their album was released Monsoon had already been dissolved. Coe's first release after Monsoon was this one, The Dream by The Ganges Orchestra, it was essentially Steve Coe's studio project that put out occasional releases with changing line-up of personnel performing on them. Sheila Chandra would emerge as a solo artist in 1984

Music Meme
I was tagged by @celebkiriedhel, sooooo.....
🎶✨ when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to, and publish. then, send this ask/tag 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool)✨🎶
I've been in a bit of an…eclectic…phase lately, so here's some stuff that's gotten a lot of "airplay" in my house lately. I'm cutting it because I babbled, but before I do that I'll tag: @anamoon63, @enable--llamas, @hazely-sims, @batsheba, @lilleputtu, @echoweaver, @nectar-cellar, @erasabledinosaur, and whoever else might want to do this. Of course, feel free to ignore for any reason. No pressure at all from me!
OK, here we go...
The Gladiator score. The whole thing. I so wish I had played on this one, because it's awesome. Plus, I love Lisa Gerrard. But, on the other hand, I can totally understand why Gustav Holst's estate sued Hans Zimmer's ass because that battle theme sounds an awful lot like Mars, Bringer of War from the Planets Suite. Maybe it was intentional, what with the movie being set in Roman times and Mars being the Roman god of war, but if so you'd think they could have gotten some permission. Apparently not!
Prem Kavita/Wings of the Dawn - Monsoon This is Indipop from the early 80s. No, that isn't indie pop. It's a fusion of Indian music with Western pop. Monsoon sort of pioneered it, and it never really caught on, but as I understand it, it's rising in popularity again. And I love it. Y'all can have your J-pop and K-pop. Gimme all the Indipop. I linked to the Hindi version of the song because I like it better, but there's an English version, too.
Also, I love Sheila Chandra, Monsoon's singer, as a solo artist. It's just a tragedy that she has burning mouth syndrome and is now basically mute. :( Also also, I would love to learn to play the sitar.
Cafe de Anatolia Keeping with a world music theme… This is a 24/7 YouTube stream from a small record label based in Turkey that specializes in a fusion of ethnic music (mostly Middle Eastern and south Asian) with house music, two things that I love. The music is at once meditative and something that you can dance to. I do belly dancing for exercise (it's amazing for your core), and this stream or something else on the same channel is great music for practicing.
Ojos Asi - Shakira Speaking of belly dancing…Ah, Shakira. This is a long remix of my favorite song of hers. Great for belly dancing.
And finally, for something completely different...
One - Apocalyptica Who needs electric guitars to play Metallica songs when you have four Finns from the Sibelius Academy with cellos? I challenge you to tell the difference from about 3:30 to the end. (Also, I have very fond memories of an impromptu jam during a looooooooooooooooong recording session for the first Transformers movie, when we were waiting eternally for Michael Bay reasons, and one of the cellists just started playing the opening pizzicato arpeggios for Apocalyptica's version of "Nothing Else Matters," and the rest of us just started playing the rest. Then the brass players joined in. Good times.)

February 2023 Mix: Rahman Magic Orchestra
Tumblr media
February 2023: 2 of 12 mixtapes connecting the music of my childhood (Tamil pop) and the music that influenced me (sinophone indie) to the music of my new home (The Netherlands). This month: A.R.Rahman to Das Wettbüro, via Nazia Hassan and Agnès Gayraud's theory pop. Also: Themes for Great Cities.
Tracklist: A.R. Rahman - Chandralekha (from Thiruda Thiruda, 1993) Yellow Magic Orchestra - キュー "Cue" (1981) Nation of Language - Wounds of Love (2021) Nazia Hassan - Telephone Pyaar (1987) Julia Holter - Everytime Boots (2015) 亲爱的艾洛伊丝 Dear Eloise - 她的歌 "Song for Her" (2012) Yuvan Shankar Raja - Jalsa (from Chennai 600028, 2007) La Féline - Dancing (2022) Folie 2 - SG Suprasound (2022) A.R. Rahman - Kannum Kannum (from Thiruda Thiruda, 1993) Das Wettbüro - Ungerade 19/36 (2022)
Notes:
A.R. Rahman - Chandralekha (from Thiruda Thiruda, 1993) A.R. Rahman - Kannum Kannum (from Thiruda Thiruda, 1993)
'Thiruda Thiruda' was the first music album I remember being impressed by, and some of the earliest music I remember acknowledging as good. I've never seen the film the music was written for.
Yellow Magic Orchestra - キュー "Cue" (1981)
For me, YMO was the band (after Linkin Park) that only access to the internet made visible. For me as a (not upper class) teen in India, there was no local circuit of record shops or alternative radio where I'd pick up on something like YMO. Early dial-up and Napster changed that.
Nation of Language - Wounds of Love (2021) The most important concerts I saw in 2022 were Nation of Language in Amsterdam, and Nation of Language in Iceland.
Nazia Hassan - Telephone Pyaar (1987) I was too young for the "indipop" wave of the 90s but, like Japanese city pop, its the stylistic predecessors of the buzzword that deserve wider recognition, like the extended discography of Nazia Hassan or the work that labels like Naya Beat and Discostan are doing.
Julia Holter - Everytime Boots (2015) I was part of the team that toured Julia Holter in China in 2015, and I was the band's local tour handler in Beijing. The group left a huge impression on me - one of my fondest memories of Beijing is the band singing acapella on the Great Wall under a crisp, blue-skied Beijing winter day. I like to think i left an impression on them as well....Julia did tweet about me once 😳
亲爱的艾洛伊丝 Dear Eloise - 她的歌 "Song for Her" (2012) For two years, I made the daily playlists at Jing-A's bars in Beijing and the only time I've seen someone break down in joy at a song coming on is when this Dear Eloise song played at midnight on a Saturday. Yuvan Shankar Raja - Jalsa (from Chennai 600028, 2007) This song lent its name to my brother's extremely-popular blog, and was really of an era when I learned that the power of the early Internet was its uncanny ability to take the cringe errata of our pop culture and turn them into lasting friendships.
La Féline - Dancing (2022) I love this song so much. I also love that La Feline is the musical project of Agnes Gayraud, a theorist whose Dialectics of Pop is one of my favourite music books. Folie 2 - SG Suprasound (2022) Das Wettbüro - Ungerade 19/36 (2022)
Two extraordinary albums discovered on a recent trip to Dusseldorf, courtesy of local labels Themes for Great Cities and Candomble.
Thanks for listening!

I'm just ..I just wish I could have a big happy vacation I'm so stressed and tired these days😭 life keeps on getting harder and harder.. where's those Kdrama tropes when I need those?? sending lots of hugs to you TT💖
Hi hi friend!
I just went and saw the promo of Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha, and the aesthetics ARE really nice. It's giving Indipop music video from the 90s vibes.
I'm not watching Alibaba, but Mais keeps me up to date on it, and I can't deny I love that kinda relationship vibes. She's a lil disappointed there isn't more romance (and that some characters have just gone missing outta nowhere, lol.)
Being a caretaker is really hard, and I hope you manage to get a few days off to yourself where you just chillllllll and just give yourself what you need. Sending you lots and lots of love and healing positive vibes, cyootoo. 💖💖💖💖💖😽😽😽😽😽😽

Female-fronted February #7 (Alisha Chinai)
Tumblr media
Alisha Chinai - Kamasutra/Alish A Lisha
Released: 1990, India/Gujarat
Genre: Pop/Indipop
Duration: 33 min.
Links: Spotify Youtube Apple Music Tidal Amazon Music
So, a few disagreements on the title, apparently - it’s the same album, just two names. And I’ve managed to hit a streak on albums not on Apple Music, it seems (linked is the artist page where most of her other albums appear, however.)
But here it is nonetheless, straight from the Indian pop queen herself! Short and sweet, carried by some strong 80′s beats. Really took the concept of ending on a high note to heart, if you ask me, because Hai Gum Humdum is probably the best track. It’s an album filled with bangers, though.
As a bonus, she also made an album of Madonna covers in 1989, if you’re into that sort of thing ;)
If you liked this, you might like...
