I've been wanting to do this forever so why not now
RATING SPYRO'S MODELS IN EACH GAME (these are the models themselves, not like his designs outside of the games in like promotional materials and stuff. That may be a later post idk yet)
Spyro 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The classic Spyro design. The small line of blue scales. The little yellow gradient on his cheeks and snout in cutscenes. The brown horns and big, expressive eyes. Oh yeah, this is prime Spyro right here. Will take points because the wings are very small and awkwardly shaped, which to be fair it is 1998 playstation so like. What can you do.
9/10
Spyro 2/3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this? This is perfection here. Takes everything the Spyro 1 model does and does it better. Still has the little blue scales I love so much and the brown horns, but with much better wing shape and size. Top tier Spyro model. Might be my favorite of all of them, even.
10/10
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like how they decided to texture in more scales during the jump from ps1 to ps2. Sadly this may be the only thing i like about this model. It's not the worst thing i've ever seen, but it looks so... gummy? Some of the details look kind of odd to me, like the yellow claws and unevenly spaced lines along his chest. This also removed the blue scales lining around his underbelly and adds the yellow horns which I'm not crazy about. A few points for still trying to be mostly loyal to the ps1 designs shape wise.
5/10
Spyro: A Hero's Tail
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this is a pretty good improvement from the enter the dragonfly model. I'm not crazy about the snout shape, looks a bit too round and i think the nostrils are a bit too high on his face, but overall a good spyro! the introduction of the purple eyes is cool too (personally im a red eyed spyro truther but still)
7/10
Spyro: Shadow Legacy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA HOLY FUCK HAHAHHAHA. okay okay okay to be fair this one is a ds game and spyro himself is suuuuper small on the screen so like. of course he'd be low poly. does get some points for spyro having sharper and more mean features. though you probably wouldn't notice in the game
4/10
Legends Spyro New Beginning/Eternal Night
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Might be nostalgia talking but I actually still really like this design. I like his snout shape and more lightning bolt shaped horns, and i find his head and back spikes kinda cool, even if i like the classic shape of them better, it works for this design. His horns are a tad bit more brownish (it's more visible in the game), which you know I love. This spyro is overall very cute!! Maybe a bit too cute, but I enjoy him
8/10
Legends Spyro Dawn of the Dragon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't. like him.
the back legs look fucked up, the wings are way too thick at the base by the shoulders and then they're so small but then get so long by the end. i like the little added scales along his underbelly. that's about it. you would think taking the previous model and making him older would be easy but i guess not. a point because you can tell he's older and if you only look at his head the model is nice. not the rest though. god.
2/10
Skylanders
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This might be controversial but i dont care. i actually like the skylanders spyro design. he leans more into the cool factor than cute, which i can appreciate, and he kinda reminds me of a pug a little bit and i really like pugs. he's got kind of a beast/monster factor i really like. i love love love the horn shape and the big claws, and the yellow claws dont even look awkward here!! the red eyes really pop too! i think he's really fun
7/10
Tumblr media
side note i also LOVE spyro's design in the skylanders show too ESPECIALLY HIS COLORING LOOK HOW NICE HE LOOKS it takes the best parts of the game model and improves it. i know this isn't from the game but it's too good not to include.
9/10
Spyro Reignited
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do really really really love this model, it's near perfect. perfectly balances the cute/coolness factor. the shapes are all good, the wings are small but not too small. love the darker scales across his body. his little thumbs are so fun too. honestly this is the best they could have done for a remodel of the first 3 games. only taking off a point because im not crazy about the colors, i prefer the darker purples and brown horns.
9/10
BONUS: CRASH ON THE RUN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Im so torn on this one because on one hand the cartoony stylization really works in these models. i love the bigger snout, i think it's fun, and i LOVE LOVE LOVE taking his head spikes and kind of splitting them up like hair. that's so fun! but on the negative end I HATE THE WAY HIS FEET LOOK SO MUCH OH MY GOD. they're like wretched lumps of clay with little claws jammed into them. granted this was for a mobile app BUT STILL. the feet really just fuck me up a lot
6/10
Okay that is all thanks for reading <3 maybe next time i'll rate spyro renders or something <3

Guide to that elusive “PS1-pixelated-lowpoly”(but not really)
With the videogame playing population growing up we've finally broke from pixel-art nostalgia into the broadly called "low-poly" nostalgia. On closer look this broad categorization gets further described as “PS1 pixelated textures low-poly”, which is a bit better, but still is a really broad and a pretty wrong description of this style that’s so dear to a plenty of game-playing and game making individuals these days. I’ll try to dive into some of the technicalities and examples of this style in the attempt to find it’s characteristics and some actual technical requirements to meet this style.
Let’s start with the obvious, calling it PS1 low-poly is wrong, mostly because the same games were release on Nintendo 64, Dreamcast and PC. More so, games released later can be put into the same category, plenty of NDS or PSP games fit into the same style and adhere to the same economy principles. The only real surface level thing unifying these games is the game size, that is, the games came on CDs. The advent of a DVD format really changed up how the games look, so the graphical style we’re talking about here is called CD-3D in smaller circles.
Tumblr media
First let’s look at the games that fit the criteria would give you some information to describe the style, textures are obviously small enough to have visible pixelation (hidden by texture filtering) and models are obviously low-poly (that is around or less than 500 triangles for a character), but let’s see what doesn’t seem so obvious. Here’s Spyro and Crash, fan favorites
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both games check both points we’ve noted before, but what’s not obvious to an untrained eye is that these games both extensively use Vertex Color, the thing you’ll notice more and more in other games we’ll talk about. Vertex Color is absolutely simple, each vertex of a mesh can be assigned a RGBA value and they’re then linearly blended with other vertex colors. Notice how in Spyro the yellow and purple light is placed on places where texture is repeated, following that you can eyeball where the wireframe is and then you’ll see that the vertex color is used to simulate lighting. Crash himself is filled with Vertex Color, it’s a cheap way to avoid using textures, while having some control over the color of the thing, instead of it being a solid chunk. If you search-engine around you can also find some really fascinating notes on the development of the original Crash and the tricks they’ve pulled! The more ingenious way to use Vertex Color is to take a look at Spyro skyboxes:
Tumblr media
Notice how the clouds are diamond-like in shape and are linearly gradiented to the next point in the wireframe.
Vertex color was used extensively and fell off with the increasing complexity of the meshes, delegated mostly to technical masking of stuff like foliage, it’s still a powerful tool for lower triangle counts.
Textures
Now, let’s talk about the textures. Pixelated textures look nice and crisp these days, at the age of 1080p being the norm, turning texture filtering really makes the games look crisp and feel right
Tumblr media
Quake 1 is a perfect example of CD-3D style, often undeservingly forgot in discussions about this style.
But this makes us forget that the textures were often authored with texture filtering in mind. Careful step gradienting to make textures seem smoother after being filtered is a craft in itself.
Tumblr media
Texture filtering is not bad in itself, some games look better without it these days, because of the display resolutions, but it’s still a valid tool to apply, it can help push low-res texture a bit higher and produce a softening effect make those 4 pixels into a round circle or improve a visual effect.
Of course, some games took a deliberate approach of avoiding smudged look, like Megaman Legends, for example.
Tumblr media
Via a very deliberate texture economy and unwrapping the developers were able to produce very crisp and pixel perfect textures (slightly warped by the infamous PS1 rendering), that look absolutely astounding when you render the game in a modern resolution. Pixel-aware UV Unwrapping, is being used in most games that are considered the pinnacle of CD-3D style, this technique is so powerful, that it was used to great effect in PS2 era games, PSP games and even modern games like Guilty Gear (for a different effect though). Let’s take a closer look,
Tumblr media
As you can see, our character is unwrapped in square pieces in such a way that a straight line on a texture will produce a straight line on a model. While Vagrant Story is an absolutely perfect in execution of this technique, it’s also used in a same way in Megaman Legends
Tumblr media
While I couldn’t find a reliable tool that works with modern 3D modeling software to allow pixel perfect alignment, just using a UV Checker will produce great results. This method also requires some thought put into your topology before unwrapping, but it’s strong point is that you can make changes into your unwrapping and geometry easily, making little tugs won’t break the whole thing.
As you can also note, Vagrant Story textures are authored in a single atlas, while Metal Gear Solid separates this atlas into smaller chunks like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Allowing for easier unwrapping, since you can unwrap into the full UV space and then change the size of the texture to scale your results. The other important thing is that you probably want your characters in a T-pose when you’re unwrapping, since this allows for easier use of normal based unwrapping, considering your model would be authored with 4 to 8 sides for limbs and torso it could be box unwrapped and then tweaked for optimal results.
Tumblr media
Silent Hill 1 used the same technique, and is also regarded as one of the best looking PS1 games.
While this is the best practice for this kind of look, it’s absolutely not required, Quake 1 used a really loose flat unwrap:
Tumblr media
But it’s still looks bloody amazing in the end.
While the topic of using UV Unwrapping for crisper result is endless I’d also love to bring your attention to a certain Jet Set game
Tumblr media
It also uses the same technique as Megaman Legends, but it tops it off with some cel-shading, producing crisp, stylish and iconic look.
Here’s some technicalities: Character textures are usually 256x256 for main characters, 128x128 for other characters, character usually have ~100-120 colors per full atlas. MGS breaks down the atlas into chunks so each chunks is usually 8 colors. So when authoring textures, make us of Indexed Color image mode or Save for Web.
Now let’s move from character textures to
World textures
Tumblr media
Universally regarded as best looking CD-3D games share the same trait, not only the characters look amazing, but the environments too. Despite hard limitations, the environments look very much affected by lighting. A lot of the times this is achieved with this one simple trick that was only improved with modern technology. That is, a lot of the lighting is baked into the textures
Tumblr media
While this limits you on the amount of lighting scenarios or makes you produce more same-ish assets this certainly elevates the look. While nowadays baked lighting is not something that exciting, it’s also being done on a separate “layer”, so there’s no need to make a separate texture for every lighting scenario, however the resolution of a lightmap should not be higher than your texture, to not produce a cheap and uncanny effect. You still want to bake some fake lighting into your texture, which contradicts the rules of PBR, but since you’re not using normal maps, rules of PBR should not apply in the same way.
Tumblr media
The other important tool to use, is the one we’ve talked about, that is, Vertex Color. Vagrant Story uses to great effect, while it’s environment textures don’t have lights baked, they use vertex color extensively to create a variety of moods and lighting scenarios.
Tumblr media
Using best texturing practice, Vertex Color and making sure your lightmaps are matching resolution to your textures will produce the best results.
Now let’s talk why I don’t advise using a lot of normal maps for this style. The simple answer, it’s somewhat difficult to produce a normal map that will work with an unfiltered look, but it’s somewhat manageable to do it if you’re using texture filtering. The issue arises when you try make your normal maps unfiltered, this will make your result either a mess or a bunch of visual noise. If you’re trying to make sharp pixel-perfect textures and then will try to make normal maps to match you’ll get very harsh results. The only way I can see it working somewhat nice is to make a normal map that’s less detailed and then use it texture filtered to give some volume to your objects, while not trying to chase pixel details.
The suggested method is to do a rough sculpt -> bake it down -> use ambient occlusion and other masks to author a texture map with more details. Then use a detailed texture and less detailed normal map for optimal result.
As a closing thought, let’s talk about the
Meshes
Tumblr media
A lot of the time you can visually trace the wireframe of things, this makes it easy to pin the style as “low-poly”, but how lowpoly it really is?
Tumblr media
Characters in Vagrant story average 500 triangles per character. Characters in MGS go from ~450 for minor characters to ~650 for major characters. So 500-600 triangles is a solid baseline for a main character in a third person game.
This limit brings out some great restriction for every aspiring 3D artist. You have to know your limb deformation techniques (search-engine “Limb Topology” and browse around the polycount wiki to find some great examples and deformation ready examples), but as you might’ve noticed, some games decided to not wrestle with skinning and deformation and straight up detached the limbs or even made their characters out of chunks. This is perfectly noticebla if you compare the OG Grim Fandango and the remaster, where they botched the shading and you can see the bits in all of their glory.
Tumblr media
Another easy example is Metal Gear Solid. Characters arms are separate from their torse, but this is covered with other geometry or they’re of the same color and shaded closely.
Tumblr media
This way of doing it was used in a number of other games and allows for unlimited range of motion, while not looking weird.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of adding more triangles and loops, but if you’ll follow the rule of “if it doesn’t add to the silhouette, you don’t need it”, you’ll keep to the style. Zoom out often and if an edge doesn’t add anything from the distance and is not critical to the deformation in a character, you really don’t need it.
These principles are so solid they’ve been alive for decades, in fact, one of the best looking PSP games “Peace Walker” sticks to these principles very closely, for example this soldier is just around 1500 triangles
Tumblr media
Spilling out of the “low-poly” territory it’s still made with the same economy principles used in CD-3D style, making use of every bit of texture and every triangle available.
Here’s another game of Metal Gear variety, Metal Gear Solid 2 is a direct heir to the design philosophy of MGS1, perfectly pixel-aligned unwraps allow for crisp detailing:
Tumblr media
Another honorable mention goes to Animal Crossing on Nintendo 64
Tumblr media
Animal Crossing combines meshes and sprites masterfully, uses pixel-aligned UV unwraps and makes up their own trick when creating landscape.
Tumblr media
By unwrapping the repeating texture on each triangle of a hexagon they create these smooth patches of sand without the need for big or unique textures. It’s only 64x64 and 9 colors, but the mileage you can get out of it is insane!
And this honestly sums up the CD-3D style perfectly, it’s the style governed by economy. There’s no need for insane textures for sharp lines, and millions of colors for smooth gradients. Now of course all of these are not rules, but recommendations, you can certainly bend the rules and improve on some aspects. Before we go, here’s some more pictures to get you inspired.

Survey #371
“some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses”
What is one song you feel as though you sing particularly well, if any? Probably none, lol. What was the last lengthy task you completed? I love these unique questions I've had lately, but damn, are a lot of my answers "I don't know," lol. What type of photography do you enjoy looking at? Do you take any photos yourself, and if so, what types of things do you prefer to photograph? I love floral and wildlife photography. Landscapes, too, and I have a great fondness for boudoir for reasons I've mentioned in previous surveys. I like taking nature pictures, mainly. Have you ever gone out for the Black Friday shopping rush? Did you enjoy it, or not so much? Or, what’s the busiest shopping day you’ve ever experienced? Hell no, that's a hard pass. I'm sure the busiest shopping experience I've had was like at the mall or something around Christmas, idk. Do you enjoy reading diaries or stories you wrote from when you were younger, or does it embarrass you? If you’ve kept them, was there a particular reason for hanging on to them so long? NO. I DON'T. BECAUSE I CRINGE INTO ANOTHER DIMENSION. I keep a lot of it for memory's sake, but goddamn, is it always embarrassing. What would you say was your first true hobby? What about your most recently developed one? Um... the first thing I really remember is video games. I played Spyro like, a LOT, along with other childhood games. I was just really into gaming at a young age. Is there one thing that throws off your mood more than others, whether it be lack of sleep, lack of food, heat/cold, etc., and when was the last time you felt especially cranky? THE HEAT. I become so irritable. I was needlessly cranky a few days ago for whatever reason. What kinds of things are you likely to complain about? My legs hurting, more than anything. Also being hot. Do you like to put any extra effort into your food in terms of presentation, or do you prefer to just put it on a plate and eat it as it is, no frills? Ha, no. It's not gonna look fancy in my stomach, so whatever. Have you ever dated someone who had kids? No, and I very much doubt I ever would. Are there any candles in the room with you? No. Does the last person you kissed have tattoos? No, but I tell her all the time that dainty nature tattoos would be THE most beautiful on her. When was the last time someone called you pretty? I think when I last updated my Facebook profile picture. Do you like the color pink? It's my favorite! Does your cell phone have a case on it? What color? It came with this thin purple one. What was the last song you had on repeat? "Moon Baby" by Godsmack. Ever kissed someone your parents hated? No. Your most recent ex says he/she hates you, you say? I wouldn't *say* anything, I'd break down sobbing. Would you feel hurt if your last ex was in a relationship? No. Have you ever had to choose between two people? Yes: Jason and Juan. Juan and I dated for less than a day not all that long before Jason and I got together, and Juan was pretty upset. He was nooot a fan of Jason due to a shared ex-girlfriend. Jason, meanwhile, just didn't care. What is the saddest thing that has happened to you? What about the happiest? I think the saddest thing has to be my breakup, especially when you know just how madly in love I was with him and had endless trust that he would never leave, and then he was gone in a flash one night. The happiest is, in turn, my recovery from said split. I found strength in myself and felt hope for once as I learned coping mechanics and got a psychiatrist that was worth a shit in my partial hospitalization program. What was the last new drink you discovered that was delicious? *shrug* Do you have a YouTube channel? Yes. I don't make videos anymore, though. Were you happy as a teenager? God no, my depression was awful. What do you do for your mom on Mother’s Day? Sigh. Not enough. I just tell her happy Mother's Day, give her a hug, and try to be an extra good daughter. Do you know anyone who follows a raw vegan diet and lifestyle? No. Can you go see a doctor alone or do you like to take someone with you? I can do it alone (but only have once), but I like to bring my mom with me still. Would you have sex with someone of the same gender as you? I'm bi, so. Have you ever had a concussion? One or two, I can't remember. How many dresses do you own? Zero. Do you know anyone who has a pet gecko? Yeah, my friend Summer has a darling leopard gecko. I want oneeeeee. They look so damn derpy and adorable, and their chill demeanor is something I really like in pets. Would you ever go bear hunting? No. Absolutely never. Do you prefer drawing or painting? Any particular reason why? Drawing, for sure. At least you can erase stuff, and paint is just so messy. Do you like raisins? NO THANKS MAN. Do you remember your locker combinations from high school? Nope. Do you forget to flip the page of your calendar at the start of each month? I don't have a calendar. Are you racist to any race? Nope. Have you ever intentionally hurt an animal? I've given cats and dogs a small pop on the rear, but nothing more than that. I hate doing even that, but with the language barrier and all, sometimes it's the only way to get your point across. Do you own any autographed memorabilia? No. Have you ever dated a twin? No. Oreos or Chips Ahoy? Oreos. Have you ever considered being a cop? Yeah, no thank you. What’s your favorite superhero movie? Maybe Logan. I thought it was very emotional and just overall a good movie. Name somebody you know who deserves a better life than they have: MY MOM. Name something that you’re good at but don’t like: uhhhhhhhh Name something that you’re bad at but DO like: Dancing, maybe. Which is worse: Stale chips or flat soda? Stale chips, for sure. It's certainly not my preference, but I can drink flat soda. Who’s the hottest guy and hottest girl out there? M-Mark Fischbach. :') Girl... let's seeeeee... maybe Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy. GodDAMN what a WOMAN. ❤_❤ Do you ever trip over your pets? Yes, because he just looooves to follow me at my feet. What’s your relationship like with your exes? Aaron, Juan, Jason, and Tyler: nonexistent. Sara and Girt: great. What was the last thing you turned down doing? Going to my nephew's t-ball game. I always feel bad when I say no when Mom asks if I wanna go... but at least the kids know I just don't handle the heat well. Are you a party animal? Faaaaar from it, my friend. Who are you the biggest fan of? m-m-m-mMARKIPLIER You’re DJ for the night - first track to get everyone going? Uhhhh maybe "Party Hard" by Andrew W.K.? Have you ever been hit on by a pushy person? I think Juan was kinda pushy, but not to an uncomfortable degree. He respected what I felt. What accent do you find attractive? Most attractive, British. But I also really like Scottish and Irish. Also French accents in women I tend to find very beautiful-sounding. Have you ever had feelings for a friend's partner? Yes. What’s your favorite thing to do that doesn’t cost much? Drive around take pictures, maybe? Let's, uh, ignore the whole gas crisis in this answer. When in danger are you more fight or flight? Flight. Do you feel self conscious about a certain body part? *gestures to entire body* Have you been accused of being manipulative? Yes. Have you ever considered violence to solve your problem? No. Are you romantic? I personally think so. If you are a smoker, how long does a pack typically last you? If you aren’t a smoker, does anybody you are close to smoke, & if so, are you against the fact that they’re a smoker? I don't smoke. To answer the next part, yes, like my dad and stepmom. I wish they would stop so badly, like it's literally going to kill them both. Do you have more subscribers or more people that you are subscribed to? On YouTube? I'm definitely subscribed to waaay more people. Is there anything that has been drilled into your brain since you were young & you finally decided to stop listening to? How did it feel once you decided to listen to yourself over what you were told? Yes: "finish your plate." Teaching your kid to eat beyond their comfort can be very destructive, and I'm glad I never stuck to that once Mom stopped enforcing it. If you are currently in a relationship, what is one thing that seems to be unique or different about your relationship with this person, compared to other relationships in general? If you are currently single, is this more of a choice or is it more just the way things are going, not really something you chose? If you are neither “single” or officially in a relationship, what are your feelings on your current situation? I'm single, and it's just how it is. I know realistically I wouldn't tell what felt like the right person no, but it really is probably better that I stay single and keep figuring my shit out. Think of somebody famous that you have a lot of respect for. What is something that you really admire them for? To name just one thing I admire in Mark, his relentless "I'm going to do this no matter what" attitude is very inspirational to me. He lets like... n-o-t-h-i-n-g get in his way. If somebody were to leave a harsh comment on a survey you took, judging you on one of your opinions, how would you react? I'd get pretty self-conscious, just because I in general take judgment quite poorly. I obsess over "what if they're right, and you're just an idiot?". Are there any other sites you use to find surveys to take? What sites do you use? I mainly use Tumblr and LiveJournal, but in times of great desperation, I'll use Bzoink and just google surveys as well, haha. Have you sent or received any friend requests on Facebook lately? Not sent, but I got one from someone I had no mutual friends with the other day. Safe to say I declined it. Can you recall the last time you turned down an offer, of any kind? Uhhhhh no. Which fruit would you say you eat the most often? Apples. What was your pet’s last vet visit concerning? Roman has been to the vet once to get neutered (and I think shots?). I took Venus many years ago because I thought she had a respiratory infection. Thank god, she didn't. Which animals do you tend to go check out first at pet stores? The reptiles, snakes in particular. Have you ever been a victim of a house fire? No. What’s the longest you’ve ever had to wait before being seated at a restaurant? Like, over an hour. Have you ever had a cavity before? How about a root canal? A tooth pulled? Braces? Cavities and braces, yes. What is your favorite zoo animal that you would like to set free? Probably polar bears. Like especially here, it gets so hot in the summer, and the poor things sometimes only have a bit of snow in the shade. Like... they can't be very happy. Especially when you see those videos of them playing in snow, and then you think about situations like our zoo here... ugh. What kinds of artifacts fascinate you? I really think old figurines built with like clay and stuff are cool. But all artifacts I find to be very intriguing. It's so interesting to see that the desire to create has always been with us as a species. Is there anyone that you’ve visited in jail? No.

Spyro: Reignited review 2.5
The Dragons of Artisans World! Let's have some words on all of the dragons while I'm at it~ Why not :2 Nestor - God I love his design. It's so good. It really does fit him and the idea of him that I had as a kid. Truly the image of 'he leads these dragons' with the very first glance. And I love the voice too, is the good stuff~ Kind and very welcoming sound coming from this dude. His colors are great too. Is it biased or boring to just, like the first fella you see a lot? Because I do like him a lot. I imagine many people like Nestor though. Shoot, I like his name too. This dude, perfect. Super good. Great job everyone Delbin - Artist boi~ As a kid I saw him as an angry aggressive kind of dude. Somehow he just, came off as being very angry when I was a kid. Maybe his voice actor had that kind of vocals or something? Anyway, he seems like a kind fella to me now. Yes he might have a deeper raspier voice, but those thick eyebrows and the effect they have, making him look like he's going ÓuÒ I kinda like him a lot more now. He's great, I'd love to just sit down and paint with this dude. I dunno what if anything we'd talk about, but just doing some painting with a chill buddy would be nice Tomas - I've shared my thoughts on him already earlier like a year or 2 ago. He was my fave as a kid, but now he's not at the top anymore. I still loooove his energy and attitude, the jokester feel I get from him & the emoting he does with his hands and body. Tomas is still great, don't get me wrong! My expectations were just suuuuper high and I didn't expect the beard etc. Nothing bad with beards, sometimes they're really cool and nice~ It just wasn't part of my own vision and nostalgia, so that's why it takes points away from my own personal ranking. He's still great with his smile and grin! But ye, I like the little musical note sound as he jumps up Argus - I love his watermelon. I love he. Also the first moment where I immediately went 'oh god he sounds so nice, I could listen to him speak for hoooours' the voice is that good. Soothing and soft, tell me a story I'll listen. Also he just looks really friendly with his glasses and all. Not to say that glasses make you automatically friendly or anything, but just, story teller, let me grab a pillow and a snack and let's craft up some silly stories
Lindar - A favourite design boi here we go~ Not my absolute fave, but certainly up there~ I feel like many people like him, and for a reason xD I love his colors, the blue and yellow here are really great~ And clocks are cool, lots of work goes into them. Also love his goggles and goggle horns. That stuff is cool and nice and yeeees. "Not that you ever run into trouble, Spyro" yeah maybe not Spyro, but yes, yes I do, me, the fella who died in Artisans homeworld. Me. Lindar, I am baby, I fail, a lot. Don't have high expectations on me Astor - Magical portal fancy vortex thingamajiggyr, love the enthusiasm in his voice. He's pretty great too overall, a nice fella. I do like him Gavin - This boi got tattoooooooos and he a barista, he's Really cool~ Also I think he had all those elements from one of the artists who worked on the designs, yes? I also love the work of said artist, I'm bad with names, I feel the name started with Co- or Col- but it's not quite at my grasp. Either way, we love Gavin in this household, he's great and his design is great and now I want hot chocolate but it's 3am and others are sleeping so I can't (QuQ) Gildas - Gildas my man! Honestly at this point, if it weren't for him I'd not have gotten all that far at all in the game. That hint on gliding, as simple and small as it might be, has saved lives - or at least attempted to. I'm as enthusiastic as Spyro when listening to this fella. He certainly sounds and seems like the kind of fun art teacher who is super kind and understanding and just great to be around. Such supportive energy from this man. And I love his design too~ Paint splatters everywhere, he's definitely an artist because we messy. The big paintbrush is also very great~ And the little pose and smile at the end of his speech, also great~ Alban - I forget if I wrote about him before, I think I did (I think I wrote about a bunch of dragons years ago, but I'm not going back to that post until I'm done with the game just to see if I feel differently now). There was that whole 'this is Spyro's dad' thing when I was a kid, with him being purple and all that jazz (and the whole 'oh it's you'). But that aside, I like this dude~ Can't imagine how strong that tail of his has to be to support him and his whole weight, but that does make him kinda unique when compared to most other dragons~ Is a cool pose :2 And I like the blue... Frills or scales he has, gives off some slightly aquatic feel in a way Oswin - My first feeling on him is some sort of memory about a recolor or model. Like there's a green Oswin or such somewhere. Anyway though, I think I liked him as a kid too, just something about telling secrets and getting to feel special or something. He aight, I do like secrets, and the room he's in is cool Darius - Many comments made on some Shakespeare references I bet. I'm not one of those kids who were forced to read those books as a kid. Not English native, no such experiences. The skull and reference is cool though, even if mostly lost on me. Also the note on the big Gnork using 'Her' pronouns, big ladies, that's cool honestly and refreshing Nils - Nils Nils Nils Nils, snakey long boi, he gets me hyped. that one camera angle of him as he's bowing, polite tall man, it's kinda hilarious in a way but I love it so much! The way he poses after stepping away to look at the statue he's working on. His long thin moustache. The green and cream colors. The red scarf. God I love everything about him, voice and all. Even the fact he knocks over his sculpture at the end. Oh no baby oh nooooo it makes me laugh a little on the inside I can't help it xD It's tragic and sad, but it just adds so much personality and life to the character Devlin - Same hint as Gildas, so it doesn't hit quite as hard here and my brain didn't really grasp it, but honestly, good on them for doing it twice, it's what my brain needs because understanding that gliding thing took me a moment. But ay, that aside, he sounds so friendlyyyyyy I love that~ The Rs in his words~ Also cake, yes, I want to bake, let's bake something sweet,
like cake or pancakes. I've never actually baked a cake on my own, maybe one day. Alvar - Ok I like
him a surprising amount. The food stuck on his tail, the way in which he just throw-jabs stuff on the ground all angrily, yeet the scewer, yeet the knife, the way he runs out of breath when rambling. This dude's got an attitude and I respect him for it. The drama, the energy. Also I. I want barbecue, I want grilled food. It makes me hungry. I could say he's one of my favourites too, very memorable for sure! Thor - Older sorta fella, the name always makes me think of the God of Thunder, so it's quite the different feeling when seeing this dude. He does have some braids which does give off a small bit of Norse energy. And right, the words, on the guidebook. I've not yet mentioned it in these reviews but I'll certainly get to it. I had figured it out before talking to Thor, but it's a fine addition. I don't have a lot to say on him, but as many others, he looks friendly too Nevin - I like his voice~ Another painter fella. Smug expressions. And I'm now noticing that he has some big wings, there's size to those, like daym, I almost got used to the smaller sized wings but when he jumps and flaps his to be off, kinda nice and impressive. Spyro kinda steals the show here though, him saying 'barbecue' is just, niiiice

My The Legend ofSpyro Headcanons!
1- Ignitus is the biological father of Spyro. (semi-canon, said by Jared Pullen)
2 - The dragons of water and air exist, only that they are very few in comparison to other elements, due to the war against malefor it reduced their numbers and they are, the majority hidden.
3- There are cities besides Warfang, including the abandoned underwater city of water dragons, Watertails, and wind dragons.
4- Water dragons are usually blue and those of wind between light gray, dark gray, white and light blue (not common).
5- Wind dragons have wings with feathers (Complete or semi) and feathers in different parts of the body such as, head, neck, legs, body, tail, tip of tail, are of different colors generally, tend to have legs, neck and longer tails, elongated head, to be thinner in physical contexture and very large wings, are generally more made for speed.
6- Royal wind dragons have feathers similar to peacocks.
7- They have a kind of language based on the state of the wind or the weather.
8- The Chronicler, when he was alive, was an earth dragon.
9- If Spyro was not a purple dragon, it would be a fire dragon
10- If Cynder had not been corrupted it would be a dragon only with the element of Air / wind.
11- If Malefor had not been a purple Dragon it would be an Earth dragon. This is because comparing it to Terrador because of its physical apereance in face and body type they looks very similar.
12- (Theory) In the past, the predecessors of dragons were giant earth Serpents and there are also water Serpents, which still exist, which, like crocodiles or sharks, have not undergone many changes in their appearance throughout Of the hundreds of years ( Skeleton in a ANB  and TEN are the proof!) and there is also there are sky Serpents.
13- The water dragons have gills to breathe underwater, but they can go to the mainland and their fingers have membranes to swim faster.
14- Water dragons and sea Serpens have a long time enmity, by territory.
15- Water dragons are more agile under it and in combat they have more advantage if they are in it. Their weaknesses are being in dry or slightly humid climates or places.
16- It has an advantage against elements such as fire, but weakness against elements such as electricity.
17- The city of wind dragons is more hidden, near and in the middle of the mountains, at high altitude, because it is on a mountain, and it is actually a sanctuary protected by an air snake, this place is perfect for Warm currents and the great space.
18- The Elements of fire, earth, ice, electricity, water and air comes from pure Ether, and the elements of fear, poison and shadow come from the dark Ether.
19- Dragons of fear, poison and shadow exist, on another planet, in another dimension.
20- between ANB and TEN  (6 months) Cyril and Volteer ensure that Spyro and Cynder have complete educacion so that they can insert the dragon society in the best way, teaching culture, writing, science, history.
21- Food: for the river of silver they must eat fish, and like other things like in the valley of avalar like some kind of deer? Sheep? Fruit?
22- The Chronicler is the Father of Malefor.
23- Malefor is not his real name, he adopted it after he was currupted.
24- The Dark Master and Malefor are not the same dragon / creature because Malefor was actually used or corrupted by the Dark Master.
25- Cynder was only a tool, so She grew up without love, Gaul just raising her for his interests and she wanted to please him.
26- Cynder learned to fly alone.
27- Cynder and the guardians are malnourished by the condition of the war, they can be seen in the ribs in the game models (and in the guardians even in the conceptual art) ,Cynder because they surely gave him little time to eat between mission and mission and for the dark ether, and the guardians, Ignitus for having to go unnoticed so they don't find him, Volteer, Cyril and Terrador for being captive.
28- Cynder before the first show of affection after ANB, by Spyro or the guardians would not know how to react by not being accustomed to genuine and pure affection, or worse would attack them by reflex or have nightmares of their past.
29- Terrador is the paternal figure / adoptive father of Cynder, between ANB and TEN both get closer,  Terrador approaches her because she looks a little refected in her, due to the way of Being of Cynder, the aspect of the war, and her past ( and nightmares).
30- Spyro (and Sparx) Between ANB and TEN go to visit His adoptive Dragonfly Parents , Flash and Nina, Spyro Invites Ignitus, Who go happy and thank the dragonflys so much For taking care of His son all these years. ( New!)
31- Spyro training of each of the Element take him days or weeks to máster them, unlike what little Time it appear to happen in the game, bit Is Still faster that a normal dragón would do, Sinse he Is a Purple Dragon and Because the Circumstances. (New!)
32- Same as Flying, he sure must need More Time to Acquire strength In the Muscles of His wings sinse he only use them to Glide, so Ignitus teach him exercies and flaps so he can do it , and must then assure himselft that Spyro it ready to fly long distants and teach him some acobatics.
33- Usually Is the Air Guardian who teach young dragons to fly that aré brough or born in the Temple. (New!)
34- There Are Dragón knights! ( As Indicated in one of the Flashbacks of Malefor) ( new!)
This are all the Headcanon I have for now! this post can be edited as I see further.
There are more info about Whater dragons that I did’t include here, but it becuse I feel it deserve a full post about them and there City, that I worked hard last year to think about! so stay tune for more info about them!

lalisa manoban, demi girl, she/her & they/them. — you know khun mae win, don’t you? they’re the twenty year old sophomore who’s studying elementary education & art and living in thayer hall. they used to be addie’s bullying target, but now they are feeling relieved that addie wont be around to hurt them anymore, though they feel guilty as well about that.
trigger warning for a car accident and teenage drinking.
khun mae is the youngest of three kids. they has an elder sister ( mayuree ) and a twin brother ( sakda ). while her and sakda are twins they can. it’s always playful and they try not to come off as a whiny brat. khun man and their sister are extremely close, as she is only two years older than the twins.
home life was fine as a kid, nothing to report about or worry about. both parents were present and loving, extremely supportive of their children and the varied interests they had. mayuree really loved music and started her talents early in life. sukda became the sports fan of the three and was on nearly every sports team that would have him in middle school and high school. he currently attends the university of michigan as a second string quarter back with a full ride.
khun mae found her passion in art and dance. painting really became her thing, soon spending as much money as was allowed on new supplies. they started winning awards for art and it really made her want to continue this as much as they could into adulthood. while they knew they might not be able to make a living off art all the time, she agreed to go to school for something to fall back on. so she started earning a teaching degree as well as her art degree in order to teach art to others, wanting to perhaps bring the same passion to kids.
her second love had always been dance and they were great at it. able to pick up steps almost instantly and follow through with a new idea until completion, kun mae was a force to recon with on the dance floor.
her life was always easy, her friends said. her siblings and her got on famously, her parents were amazing and not the least bit over bearing- until the accident. the accident was honestly her own doing, she was out late and making horrible decisions. “but what else are teenagers meant to do?” she asks herself, thinking there was no way she’d actually suffer for this.
until she was. her friend had lost control of the car, who shouldn’t have been driving in the first place. while they’d all had some to drink, the group figured he would be the best to drive them home safely from the party. sudka had stayed to close down the party and take his girlfriend of the time home later so khun mae got into the car.
she doesn’t remember much of the accident. the doctors said that wasn’t surprising with the amount of trauma she’d sustained. they were shocked she was conscious at all. days in the hospital turned to weeks turned to months when they learned the extent of what the car had done to her. unable to walk for months, khun mae still struggles on worse days. while most of the time they can walk without aid, they do have crutches as well in case.
they refused to walk the stage at her high school graduation, instead staying in the crowd to cheer on her brother. never once did her smile fade through her struggles, instead she internalized the struggles she faces so that no one else would have to suffer with her.
it took a lot of convincing for khun mae to think about college again, her admitting to mayuree  and sakda one day she might not go now because she doesn’t want to be that person who struggles to get around campus now. while they couldn’t help her, they did convince her to try and she enrolled as a full time student.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy Review: How To Re-Train Your Dragon
Tumblr media
It’s 1999, i’m 7 and i’m at my friend CJ’s house, we’re passing the controller back and forth as we play the hottest new game two Playstation owning kids could want: Spyro 2 Riptos Rage.  It’s 2018, I’ve just come home from a grueling day of college classes but I’ve got it, I’ve got the hottest new game a Playstation 4 owning adult could want: Spyro 2 Riptos Rage.  The more times change the more they stay exactly the same, and thankfully in the case of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy that ends up being a good thing.
The Good:
The Fulfillment of an Imagination:  Looking back on the visuals in the original three Spyro games can be a rough time, in fact I’d say that entire generation of video games has aged incredibly poorly in the visuals department.  Spyro Reignited Trilogy however, uses the same imagination that developers asked people to tap into back in the day to create absolute wonderlands of spectacle and color that 5th gen consoles couldn’t even dream of producing.  Levels that were once unclear and painted with broad ideas and concepts are now all incredibly distinct.
For instance, in Spyro 2 the level Hurricos was always presented as this odd clifftop society, the closest thing it came to the title, obviously named as such to be close to the word “Hurricane”, was the fact it was raining.  Today though, Hurricos is a small island, locked in the middle of an endless storm and surrounded on all sides by whipping waves, with the grass being violently blown in the rain and the science loving people living their suddenly making sense for choosing this chaotic place as one in which to do research on the wind!  Every level in the trilogy has a loving amount of detail put into it, if there was something you always imagined being a part of the Spyro games but was never really there, well I have news for you, chances are it’s there right now waiting for you to see it.
Tumblr media
The updated world designs extend beautifully to the mid level homeworlds, which all feel ripped straight out of an animated movie you get to play!
Spyro’s Just A Little Airborne, He’s Still Good!:  Last year when the Crash Bandicoot remakes came out, there was a fervor of questions raised about the originals in relation to the remakes.  Were these games always this hard or was I just really patient as a kid?  Has the “Sonics Ass” game franchise always been this linear?  I didn’t find myself asking any of those questions about Spyro.  The Spyro games gameplay were always very simple, it’s all about finding a way to glide to that far off platform or hunting down that last gem you missed in a level.
In this way Spyro has aged leaps and bounds better than Crash before it, because the mechanics were just the right kind of simple and laid back for the time that they’ve translated incredibly well to our modern era.  I was almost never stressed out playing these games again, and while you could argue they’re maybe too easy in retrospect I’d say that relaxing pace and lack of roadblocks is a feature we all always loved, even if we didn’t realize it at the time.
An Adventure Reborn:  All three of the original Spyro games are present in this collection and if you have a favorite character or moment in any of those I feel I can guarantee you that it’s here and it’s been redone in loving detail.  Spyro the Dragon has unique models for every dragon in the game, a far cry from the repeating six or seven we saw on the PS1.  Spyro 2 lovingly re-designs all the supporting cast, from Hunter the Cheetah no longer looking like a Muppet and Elora still looking exactly like a Faun you dork.
The cast of Spyro 3 gets the same treatment, with all the new playable characters sporting looks that are clearly updated but evoke the same classic feeling they gave off in the original release(Except, unfortunately, Sheila who comes across as massively over designed).  The Homeworlds in Spyro 2 still exude a sense of peace, The Gnorcs still moon you for some reason in Spyro The Dragon and even the Skateboarding mini games in Spyro 3 have aged about a hundred times better than you’d imagine.  It’s the small details that really decide whether or not a remake team got the spirit of a game right, and i’m glad to say all of those are here in the Reignited Trilogy.
Tumblr media
The remade Autumn Plains absolutely took my breath away, it’s always been one of my all time favorite environments in a game and with it’s new level of detail it’s going to keep that place for a long time.
Copeland Plays The Hits:  I’ll readily admit that I was worried for the music in this game, Stewart Copeland of the police turned in incredible soundtracks for the original three games.  Not only am I happy to say his tracks are here and undisturbed if you want them that way, but the remastered versions of them are incredible as well.  They all feel just like you’d want them to in these updated versions of the games that were all so driven by their tunes, with new wrinkles like a soft thump tone being added into the peaceful tracks of the Spyro 2 home world and new instrumentation adding a layer of depth to some of the first games more simplified tracks.  Honestly as it stands, it’s the choice given to you the player to listen to the new stuff, or just go back to the originals you love that puts this game over the top in regards to the music.
The Bad:
Tumblr media
Well, for one, Jack here looks like someone used voodoo to bring a Funko Pop to life, does that count as bad?
Supercharged Past That QA Huh?:  Much like the Crash remakes last year, it’s not only clear these games were made on a very tight time frame, but that they were made sequentially and their quality decreases the further you get into the series.  Now to be fair, I encountered nothing game breaking, but I did notice that bugs, visual quality and other smaller details tended to fall by the wayside the further you get into the series.  Where the original Spyro seems to have got the most attention, Spyro 3(Ironically, much like it’s original release) had a fair amount of bugs waiting to rear their weird looking heads.  During the skateboard races, for example, the enemy A.I would sometimes just seem to switch off.  Only to reactivate at random intervals and jerk back into place, suddenly shutting down any lead you may have gained due to their non action, even if you were still playing properly while they were freaking out.
Where levels in Spyro one and two mostly escaped this, you could see the beginnings of a reliance on re-used assets and quick production in Spyro 3.  Like Crash before it, the third game in the franchise seemed to get the least amount of attention, which is a bummer because that one has always been my second favorite.  The game was delayed once, last minute even, and I’m very glad it did, because despite what I’ve written here the game never stops functioning or is ever unplayable, if anything these bugs are just minor annoyances, but i’d have definitely hated to see what a version of Spyro 3 even more rushed out the door would have looked like.
Tumblr media
Didn’t stop me from platinum-ing the thing!
Spyro Reignited Trilogy, despite a couple nagging issues, is a damn near perfect way to bring back our favorite purple dragon’s original three adventures.  The games not only look great with their fresh coat of paint, but have aged beautifully in both gameplay and general tone.  I’d heavily recommend The Reignited Trilogy, not just to Spyro fans, but to anyone yearning to feel like that 7 year old kid again.  Holding that dualshock and completely enraptured by the 10 or so polygons making up that little purple on the TV in front of you.  Welcome back Spyro, I hope we can look forward those wonderful words showing back up the future “An Adventure Begins”.

Spyro: Reignited review part 3
We're moving onto Peace Keepers~ And getting ever so closer to the point of where I've never played myself. In fact I feel like we are at that point now, but I have still seen other people play a bit further, to Ice Cavern I Think, as the first realm from here, but I'll talk about that a bit later on. So, Peace Keepers! The music over here, it's very atmospheric and I love it a lot. It really gives off that military kinda feel. These people are the fighters, they're tough etc. etc. The place itself looks fairly basic, but that's alright. It's a new place, there's not like, a huuuuuge amount to explore, but the first area does become very familiar really quickly. Especially because of..... That jump. Oh my God that jump. Behind the portal to Toasty, you have to use a cannon to topple some rocks and then jump to get to the other side of the ravine to another area. It's a lot smaller, but you do need to get to that area. Oh, and if you fall? You're dead. No recovery, you're just dead. God. So many lives lost to that jump. It was so hard. It made me go to youtube to see how it was done because I just wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong or if it was about the switch or what. But it was because of that jump that I figured a handful of helpful things. Firstly, Peace Keepers is super good for life farming. Since you get one of those orbs everytime after you kill an enemy you've already defeated before, and Peace Keepers has a ton of easy to defeat enemies right at the start of the level, it works out great~ Another thing is that I could press a button to go to the menu or guidebook or such, and select to travel to another world whenever I failed the jump to the other side and was about to fall to my death - because this way I don't lose a life~ Hahaa! I cheated! But seriously, do you blame me? That jump. It was really freaking hard. The last thing I got from that was that charging & then jumping usually gives me a little bit of extra height so that's been great and helpful. Now I can make that jump relatively constantly (although not 100% of the time still), but I'm not looking forward to when the jumps become more and more precise, I'm kinda scared for when that happens. I already know I'm threading some of the levels that others mentioned as being hard, so.... Oh boy...
Night Flight! Ok so my first thought after getting to the other side of that ravine was to enter any and all levels that were on that side of the jump (which ended up on just being 1 singular level) as I didn't want to have to make that difficult jump ever again if I'd somehow fall and die or something and be forced to struggle with that jump again. So Night Flight it is! And.... Oh boy... the controls. The controls are my enemy. I never completed any of the Flight levels as a kid I think. It was always my brother, he completed all of them. So I'm a complete amateur here. And I suck. Left and right? Yeah I can kinda manage that. Up and down? But the buttons are kinda reversed? Oh shoot Oh no oh my god uhhhh. It takes a bit to get a hold of these. Sometimes I manage, but sometimes I don't. And good lord. I don't know if the Flight levels are supposed to be easy or hard, but I'm struggling. That 3rd box is such a pain. And I don't always even make it to it. I think the longest I've lasted and managed on that stage so far is completing the first 2 sets of things. I keep missing stuff, the up and down controls feel weird and disorienting, turning is stiff and I keep accidentally pressing the turning around button and sometimes stuff just, happens and doesn't happen. It's not easy. I've only gotten like a 24% on that stage so far I think and I'm glad that they're not mandartory to proceed to the next world, so far at least. Pretty sure they're required for the 100% and Gnasty's Loot, but for now. I'm. Just gonna put the Flight levels to the side and.... trying to not stress over them Dry Canyon! First of all! I love the purple sky! It's a very nice color and I looooove it. The level itself is pretty nice too, I can handle it pretty nicely. Enemies aren't bad, I'm finally getting a hold of the jumps and gliding... Things are good~ Until they're not. Some jumping and gliding, we've got issues and hard times again. We struggling. It's good that I absolutely adore the music here, (it was my first time hearing it I think) because by god would I be hearing it for a looong time. The jump to Maximos, I nailed that on the first try~ Somehow, with some magic~ Niiiiice~ But then I died, or left the level. Either cheated and traveled to another level to avoid dying on the last minute, or accidentally stepped on the 'warp home' portal when trying to make the same jump that proved to be super difficult - but the point is that I lost the key next to Maximos and had to struggle after failing to repeat that miracle and it wasn't exactly fun. Running through the level over and over again, this is when I opened the controls and setting menu, either for the first time (or I think I had looked at them before with the PK ravine) and deployed the map just so I had even a little slight tiny idea as to where I was going. In the end we did make it. And with the help of Sparx and youtube, we found the side cave and the last gems were added to the counter. The level ain't bad, it just took a bit for things to work out. Mostly those jumps and gliding. Boris: "Dry Canyon rewards good gliders! You Are a good glider, eh Spyro?" Me: "No." Spyro: "I was.... Born to Glide!" Me: "No Spyro, I suck at that stuff. I'm not good at it bro" I think this level was my first interaction with the fireworks too, I forget but either way, my first interaction with them was dummy. I just stood there next to them like 'I was supposed to stay here right, so that I'm right in the middle to catch all the gems, that was the plan, right?' Wrong, buddy. When the fireworks/explosives go off, the thing pushes Spyro back, obviously. Don't stand next to explosives kids, we learned to step away today. Peace Keepers 2.0 So we back at the mine homeworld to finish stuff up after the whole key fiasco to figure out the key stuff with Peace Keepers. There was a key here and because of shenanigans like leaving the level or dying I no longer had the key. So a couple struggles with the ravine jump, entering Night Flight, failing and returning to the necessary side of PK through that, I
kept failing the jump needed to get to that cave the key went to and either cheated and traveled away to not die, or indeedly died. Kinda sucks how you place such punishments at the proximity of hard jumps eh? Yeah. Anyway, struggle, but we made it, we got to that cave and - oh right did I mention I lost the key? Well I didn't actually realize that until I had already made that jump and was in the cave and didn't have the key anymore. So I had to do it all, again. Not a good time. Nope. But in the end, we got 100% in PK, good stuff, we can move on

An Analysis of the Five Dragon Types in Spyro the Dragon
Classic Spyro is back! Spyro the Dragon was the first video game I ever played, and it cemented my love for collectathon platformers, dragons, and the color purple. It’s the video game I hold every other video game up to. And seeing it in glorious HD is a dream come true.
Something that bothered, me, though, is that dragon that shows up briefly. While we only have one example of a dragon, he looks so generic, and it makes me worried that Toys For Bob didn’t pay attention to the detail Insomniac put into designing the dragons of the five worlds. Because, while they did re-use the dragon models a lot, they put detail into each that made each land unique.
Without further ado, here’s the dragons (all images from darkspyro, because you don’t want me taking pictures of my PSP):
Artisans
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Artisan dragons are probably the dragons you think of when you think of dragons from Spyro the Dragon. They have square-ish, protruding snouts, two horns with horizontal lines going through them, a simple color that is often bright for their main color with only some texturing around the spines, and a generally tan-ish belly that often has horizontal lines but the ones in Town Square tend to have a more pebbly pattern. These dragons tend to have ridges coming out of the back of their head and down their chin that looks like a beard and old-powdery-wig hair. Also, something I am noticing looking at basically all of them at once, is that nearly all of them have red-tinted wings. They also have cartoon eyes that are black with no other color to them.
Spyro is clearly of this dragon type, given his red wings, simple purple scales and tan belly, and two lined horns. He’s younger and has some distinguishing properties that don’t quite match, though, such as his very prominent crest.
Peace Keepers

Most Peace Keeper dragons have spots along their main coloration, and their main coloration is a more muted color compared to their Artisan contemporaries, with generally being browns, swampy greens, and pinks (for some reason). Their belly scales generally are a similar color to the dragon’s main scales to fit in, and while the wings do still often have reddish colors, they are just as often another color in the dragon’s main color scheme.
Peace Keeper dragons have smaller eyes than Artisans, and instead of the beard-type protrusions, they have fin-like ones on the backs of their heads. This homeworld is also where the bulkiest dragons are.
Magic Crafters
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whew, a lot of these guys look similar. Seems that the middle dragon is the most common version of the Magic Crafter. Anyway, these guys tend to have branched horns and pastel color schemes. Their bellies kinda melt into their main color and tend to be white or cream (or a brighter version of their main color). The way the scale and belly textures work, Magic Crafter dragons seem to have fur rather than scales. They also tend to have beards like the Artisans, but they may be actual hair beards given the texture.
Something very distinct about Magic Crafters is their eyes - they are small with a solid color - no whites. It certainly gives them a mystical look! They also have no eyebrows.
Beast Makers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot of these guys look like the top one. I’m starting to think that that model was their default. But hey, since this model is in all the lands, it shows the differences between each specie nicely!
Beast Makers have a similar color scheme to Peace Keepers, and have a scale (or wart?) texture all over their bodies. Their bellies almost always have that wavy/gloopy pattern to them. They tend to have very thick horns, and wide sideburn-type beard protrusions. Their eyes all have this cat-like quality to them, with the iris being small and thin. They also, much like Spyro, all have some sort of mohawk-type crest on their heads, but they don’t stand out as much as Spyro’s does. Of note, there’s a couple of dragons who have a very similar color scheme to Spyro’s here!
So, is Spyro an Artisan? Or is he a Beast Maker? He seems to be some sort of mix between the two.
Dream Weavers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dream Weavers have a bright pastel for their main color, with clearly-defined scales. Their nostrils, similar to Artisans, are very clearly defines, as are their belly ridges. The bellies tend to be cream- or white-colored, too. Their horns are generally long, thin and brown-ish (like Spyro’s!), and they almost always have an additional horn on their snout. They have fin-like protrusions from their heads, except more wavy compared to Peace Keepers’ rounded.
Dream Weavers tend to have thick eyebrows made of their head that their eyes are set underneath. the eyes themselves are human-eye-like, with the color surrounding the iris, and taking up a large portion of the eye space but not all of it. The eyes tend to be yellow.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
So how does this guy hold up? Uh, plain scales in a solid color? Check. Tan, lined belly? Half-check (it’s tan at least). Protruding square snout? I’ll give it a pass because that might not look that great in high polygon counts. Black, cartoony eyes? Well, they might just be black, it’s hard to tell. Beard/hair-like protrusions? None to be seen. Red-ish wings? Big fat NOPE! Seriously, I knew something was wrong with the wings. That must be it!
Is this bad? Well, it’s hard to tell without any comparison. If they make each dragon even more unique than in the Insomniac game, then this could very well be a good thing!
It’s probably too late in development to make any large-scale alterations to each and every individual dragon, so I’m just going to have to hope they did their research and these differences are intentional. What I really hope is that clothing isn’t the only difference between the different dragon types. That would be a definite downgrade to what Insomniac did to make each dragon seem distinct despite having only a few models to work with.

Spyro Reignited Wishes; then Skylanders Academy Predictions (Then More Game Stuff)
I decided to do something really stupid, and try and post about three different things in one post because I guess a really long read is something that nobody has complained about yet. I am sorry in advance for the nightmarish amount of text you will see, and tell me not to do this in the future if you’d prefer one thing at a time. I will probably avoid doing this again in the future. I am sorry in advance, and I tried to mark the transitions from one topic to another heavily so you could just skip to what you want.
1. ———-With the Reignited Trilogy coming closer to being just around the corner; everyone who isn’t an original series Nazi — an original series fan that believes that just porting the original series to the PS4 is the only thing that can be done with this series that isn’t punishable by murder — is really exited to get their hands on the Spyro that predates all other Spyros. With that exitement however, many people have come to hope for and even beg Toys for Bob for any reveals on any of the new features they could’ve added, and hope that the Reignited Trilogy is getting all of the love that the N’Sane, and from what we’ve seen so far; from being in development for over two years longer than the N’Sane Trilogy because it was actually being developed at the same time if not early than the N’Sane Trilogy started to having revamped cutscenes and a reactive development team that gives what the fans ask for through hard work, the Reignited Trilogy seems to be receiving more love than the N’Sane Trilogy.
This love that is being given to the Original Spyro has given many of us a list of things that we may have come to hope for or expect (or hate the idea of if you are an Original Spyro Nazi). My list of wishes are as follows:
•Playable Cynder and/or Ember: First thing, because Crash had an extra playable character added for after the game was beaten, this is then followed by the Original Series having had done this before in later installments, and is made more likely through being probably THE MOST REQUESTED THING OF THE REIGNITED TRILOGY BY FANS OF THE LEGEND SERIES. So yeah, may actually be a thing.
•The addition of deleted content: Crash obtained his stormy ascent, and Spyro likely had many worlds that were removed due to either difficulty or time constraints, and as much as all files on the original series were lost by Insomniac, it’s original developers could definitely tell them about deleted content and abandoned ideas.
•A Crash Easter Egg?: Spyro and Crash were best friends after all, so having him show up in an Easter Egg or level could be pretty fun.
•Keeping the Adaptive Difficulty Algorithms: This one is more so one of my hopes for this Trilogy. The Original Spyro Trilogy was technologically ahead of its time in way more ways than one (outside of being two years late to the 3D Platforminng Genre), one of these wonders of technology that this game boasted was how its enemy AI would actually adapt to how good you were at the game, making it absolutely brutal for the pros of the series, and extremely easy for those who struggled with it more often, so every player would actually witness different levels of difficulty for each boss and enemy.
Even though Crash Bandicoot is difficult to start with and understand the full extent of its physics, all of its characters and bosses followed set paths, and for someone who is experienced at playig Crash Bandicoot, and has memorized the boss-paths; it is actually really easy to do a zero-deaths run of any level, boss, or even the entire game after having had played it before. Each of the Original Trilogy Spyro games would actually become more difficult the better you bacame at the game; requiring a more in-depth knowledge of characters and levels by a long-shot if you plan on beating the game without a single death, each of the enemies starting to react within periods of time that aren’t possible for some random player to just pick up and play against. So as much as people talk about how hard Crash is for them, they’re forgetting that the original Spyro trilogy was only easy for them because they sadly (and bluntly) weren’t probably that exceptional at playing it, and also probably because it does begin at an average difficulty level that was designed for anyone to just be able to play; so a lot of people probably didn’t have the difficulty raise too much for them. But yeah; I want the Reignited trilogy to show off one of its technological marvels that people today probably wouldn’t even try to develop or implement in the greatest of AAA games.

2. —————As one of the many people who enjoyed Skylanders Academy, and really payed way too much to the lore of it and similarities it showed to the stories of other Spyros, I have a few predictions for season three that I can pretty much guarantee and would maybe even be willing to bet money on with the confidence and evidence that I have for these. With the Third season being released a month after the Reignited Trilogy, the fall of 2018 will be the season of Spyro. But keep in mind that I have avoided leaks, so any of this could’ve been leaked or disproven without my knowledge.
•A Bloodlines Episode: As much as that episode will not be called Bloodlines, their will most-definitely be an episode where Malefor and Cynder will be having some father daughter time (in the middle of Cynder being pissed); while Eon reveals the truth about Spyro and his history to the rest of the Skylanders; all while Kaos tries to have some father-son moments with Strykore. This episode will entail why Malefor hates purple dragons so much, and him telling that story to Cynder (which will 100% reveal that Cynder’s mother was a purple dragon; who probably died protecting the core of light from all of the dark-form purple dragons, or became corrupted as well. I can guarantee this because of Cynder’s color, her retaining her dark purple scales even though Malefor never corrupted her with Aether in this series, he’s just a black dragon who cares deeply for his biological daughter; so with him being black; Cynder’s mother would have to be purple. So that is definitely a reveal to look for). Though this reveal of Cynder’s mother will likely then be followed-up by a Dark Spyro visit (just because individual episodes tend to have themes that they stick to, and Spyro is convinced that Malefor knows how to find his family, and will definitely show back up to find out).
Stealth Elf and the other Skylanders will probably end the episode determined to find a way to either bring the purple dragons back so they could save Spyro (knowing how he’ll be looking for them), or they will either abandon Eon and his cause for having had lied, or forgive him and prepare to fight Strykore and Kaos to the bitter end. This may also include Eon revealing his relations to Kaos, but if so then this episode may be the forst or second one of season three.
Kaos will likely fail in trying to have his father spend time with him, and will hold that deep in his heart to be triggered later; pushing him to turn against his father when it is needed of him most; either making him worse than his father was, or and antagonistically-neutral character at the end of season three (which may be the last season)
•Saving Spyro: This one is the more complicated part of predicting season three, and that is because there are several ways in which it could play-out; each with similar or different saviors.
Cynder saves Spyro: The case behind Cynder being the one who saves Spyro can be seen heavily from all of the similarities that their relationship in Skylanders Academy has compared to the relationship that The Legend Trilogy Spyro and Cynder have with each other. But there is a twist in that, in every similarity in this relationship, the roles have been reversed between them. So Spyro’s because you have left me nothing to fight for scene can become Cynder’s; since he was the only thing that really gave her reason to be a Skylander. There is also the fact that she is likely a half-breed purple dragon, meaning that she would actually have light to give/bring to him in his darkness. Making her the most-ideal character to save him if the stick to their legend series references and self-established lore of how light works in their own series. Their is only one other character who could fit this role as well as Cynder could, and that is before considering how Cynder is the only character who has lived on both the sides of bad and good, and she learned and accepted how she could be a Skylander in spite of being groomed to be evil. She of all characters knows that anyone could be saved, and if they really want to sell the reflections of the Legend Series; they would have her stop at nothing to save him, this may force her to face both the Skylanders and Strykore though. Hell; she may even join with Kaos for a time just to try and get close enough to be able to reach Spyro.
Cynder saves Spyro when he visits Malefor: So dark Spyro will eventually visit Malefor in season three if not the other way around. Cynder will be in Malefor’s custody when that happens; meaning that she will definitely play a large role in the endgame. So how this will go will be; Spyro likely gets violent, one way or another it becomes a duel between him and Cynder in which she either loses or refuses to fight, does either the inversion of the Legend series Dark Cynder Spyro fight from DotD, or she uses her light to purify him knowing that she’s a half purple dragon now, or a mixture of both. This will either leave Cynder in a weakened or ill state forcing Spyro to apologize and find some way to bring her to the core of light, or she’ll be fine and the story will continue.
Cynder saves Spyro when he his fighting at the core of light: Similar to the last one, just theyre all at the core of light and Spyro and Cynder end up alone in the battle one way or another, repeat all thr stuff from the last one and bam, Spyro is himself again.
Cynder and Stealth Elf save Spyro at the core of light battle: Since Stealth Elf is Spyro’s best friend in this series, just pair up her value of Spyro and desperation to likely save him with the stuff from earlier revolvin Cynder and you’ll have a saved Spyro with two of the most important if not the two current most important people to him there by his side for him to apologize to and finish the final battle.
Stealth Elf saves Spyro: Stealth Elf is Spyro’s closest friend, so with that being a main theme; Stealth Elf alone is a candidate to save him, not as ideal as Cynder and Eon, but she can. She might use water from the core of light, but otherwise the power of friendship is all I can really say.
Stealth Elf at the core of light: Just read the one before, and You’ll know why this is the only location that Stealth Elf alone will be able to save Spyro, because the core of light is the only place where she can restore his light, her not being one of the three beings that just has pure light within them.
Spyro’s Skylander team saves him: Because of the themes of family within this show, the team that traveled with Spyro throughout Skylanders Academy is really the most expectable group for the show to use for anyone who doesn’t Overdose on researching and studying the lore of series like I do. They are a great candidate provided Skylanders Academy wants to just plot-armor the word “family” over all of the lore and character forshadowing that the developers did throughout the first and second seasons. It will still fit the themes of Skylanders Academy though.
Spyro’s Skylander team saves him at the core of light: This is the only area where the team detailed earlier could save Spyro in a lore-friendly way without the help of Cynder or Eon.
Eon saves Spyro: A lot like why Cynder will probably save Spyro, Spyro’s internal struggles are 100% Eon’s responsibility, and he is one of the three characters that we have seen who is a being that contains pure light (Spyro, Cynder from her mom, and Eon); so he would be a great light-giving candidate, but there would be a price to that. Master Eon (as we saw in season one) cannot expose himself to darkness on a great scale, and cannot expend his light without falling deathly ill. So if we wanted an Ignitus in Skylanders Academy who wanted to do right by Spyro even if just once, Eon would likely sacrifice himself to restore Spyro.
Eon is killed: This doesn’t need an explanation, Eon either dies from sacrificing himself, or he is killed by Strykore or Spyro.
What I believe will happen: Knowing the themes of family and friendship; while also keeping all of the Legend Series themes and concepts that are apparent and repeating in Skylanders Academy. Spyro’s team will likely try to save him, but will either fail or give up thinking that he may be too far gone. So they will likely start to relentfully view him as an enemy. Then will come the involvement of either Cynder or Eon to save him; I can almost guarantee Cynder will be the one to save him, because Eon likely shouldn’t die, and also because Cynder is the only character in the series outside of Spyro who has walked on both the dark and the light, and possesses a very unique knowledge of how one can choose to be evil, and can be saved from that, so she will likely either give him her light (some or all, either could happen), after having to either face him with the Skylanders, or face the Skylanders to be able to get him to open up to her enough in his dark form. But yeah; she’ll definitely be saving him; I want to go out on a limb and say that she’ll have to abandon her father and the Skylanders in the process; while also facing Kaos. Of course this series may not go that far, but I’m going to say that will happen, because that will enable Spyro and Cynder to save all of Skylands with Stealth Elf and the rest of the team helping as needed if they aren’t incapacitated, but it will also reflect a very specific condition that I will explain right below this.
•A large part of Skylanders Academy was how it had its own twist on the Legend of the Purple Dragon, in the Legend Series, Malefor and Spyro were Eternal (meaning cannot die at all), and in Skylanders Academy spyro had invulnerable scales, and both Spyros are said to have many more powers. But there is one confirmed power of the Legend Series Spyro that is known by fans as Convexity, and by the game files as Aether. It is one of the many powers that Spyro possesses in the Legend series that makes him as rediculously powerful as he was at the age of fourteen in Dawn of the Dragon (that and being unable to die), but his Aether powers had one twist to them; they were able to be accessed through a balance between dark and light; his dark form being a result of losing himself to the darkness of his heart and emotions and being overcome by dark Aether (along with his critically untreated depression that he only had a hold over with Cynder), but there was no real side-effect of being overcome by light and light-related emotions, unless if love overcoming him with light is what roided his heart into repairing the planet. It was also this power that he used to purify Cynder and restore her at the end of A New Beginning. Meaning that Cynder in Skylanders Academy could maybe even unlock this power; if not use it to save Spyro.
If Skylanders Academy was to use a twist on that power to defeat Strykore, then they would be bringing a lot of their lore full-circle, most of Spyro’s lore in Skylanders Academy being a modified version of the Legend Series Spyro’s lore after all, but the only question is; what would they change about Spyro’s Convexity/Aether powers before revealing them in Skylanders Academy? Cause if they kept them how they are now; then Spyro himself would never be able to use them outside of a few set circumstances; with Aether powers requiring a balance between darkness and light where Spyro is always either a being of 100% pure light or 100% darkness he would never be able to use them unless if he was able to becoming a being of both dark and light. Though with Aether being the one superpower that by its own nature should be able to accomplish anything; it will likely be required to save the Skylands. But there is one gem of a character who fits the requirements for Aether as they were in the Legend Series, and that gem is Cynder; with her mom being a Purple Dragon and her father being the ruler of the underworld; she would be a being of perfect balance between darkness and light by birth and nature. That would make her the perfect candidate to save the Skylands or even Spyro with her Aether powers. She could even try to restore Spyro with her light, which would then place either both of them at 75% dark 25% light, or she will abandon all of her light to save him; leaving Spyro at the perfect balance needed to save the Skylands, but then he would have to clutch a Cynder as she either falls to darkness, or fights desperately to remain herself; then Eon could show up and sacrifice his light to both restore Cynder to her perfect balance and bring Spyro back to 100% percent, or he could leave spyro and cynder at perfect balances and stay at a 50% light 50% neutral state, and then the series will likely end with Spyro either rejoining the Skylanders with Cynder, bringing Cynder with him to save the purple dragons if not going alone, or leave the Skylanders and become a guardian figure of perfect balance between darkness and light either along or with Cynder who shares the same description. Who knows; I’m just babbling on about what’s possible with the lore of the series.

3. ——————GAME STUFF: I said I would like input on game names and stuff, so here I am asking. The game that you’ve all been seeing some random map sketches from is the second game on my development list, but it hasn’t been named yet. The inspiration for the games initial idea was actually my frustration with the pokemon series... I was frustrated with all of the limits that the game series placed on everything, from levels to training to even relationship development; so I started to create a Bestiary that had creature stats and growths plotted out heavily, and I have been trying to design personality types and creature interaction concepts. With creatures ranging from single-stage to five-stage creatures with each one being able to train their stats infinitely in their final stage. I wanted all of the evolutions to be locked-out be relationship level requirements at certain stages, and I wanted there to be main character creatures that would be with you throughout the entire game. So I started designing a creature game that will do all of that. I’ve gotten most of the story concepts down and rough story guidelines for individual characters and main-character creatures, but the back-of-game-case-summary will be a little like this: “Join Xavier on his journey through an alternate world with his otherworldy dragonling Fry as he befriends creatures, slays fiends, and tries to discover his purpose in discovering Fry and traveling to Alterium” or something like that. But yeah, it will feature befriending characters and creatures (no capturing); Xavier and all of the player-characters will actually participate in combat with their creatures; even though they will be significantly weaker than their creatures, and you all should expect concept art for this once I’m confident enough to start posting it. So please send me any name ideas that you come up with for this game, and I will ask for approval on any that I may come up with.
All of you have a wonderful night, and tell me what you think about any or everything I may have said here. You should even feel free to comment as you see fit.
