#I liked the way it integrates her culture into the game in a really cool way (though I would have liked more detail there)

Walking In Two Worlds & The Everlasting Road
YA sff set in the near future where an opensource augmented reality is commonly used like social media, and there’s also a completely virtual fantasy game version
follows an Anishinaabe girl who who’s the top player in the VR game, and is constantly fighting to keep her place against the misogynist neo-nazi group in second place
as well as her real life, dealing with being a shy and self-conscious teen growing up on the Rez, and her brother having cancer
and a Uyghur boy who’s moved to her community from China after finding acceptance in an online community (even when he doesn’t agree with their more extreme views) - but when he gets to know Bugz, he has to decide who truly deserves his loyalty
great mix of sff and culture, the future while also very real community traumas of the past (and present)
#walking in two worlds#the everlasting road#wab kinew#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#This has some REALLY interesting and important concepts!#I just think it could have used some more development… Obvs this is YA and I’m an adult I know I’m not quite the audience!#There’s a lot of depth in the setup of the characters but I feel like it skips a lot of the progression#I think there could have been space for more development in a lot of places to make the story feel more dimensional#- but also has so many plot threads that maybe that would have bulked it out too much#It does also jump around quite a bit between the different parts but I think that makes sense with how juggling with irl / online life.#she’s got a lot of internalised fatphobia at the start (and the love interest going “I don’t think you’re fat!!” when people call her fat..#then in book 2 suddenly she’s okay about it - again I wish there was some progression!#her brothers cancer journey is. basically all offscreen lol mostly as set up for plot in book 2. so it doesn't have the emotional impact it#could have..#I liked the way it integrates her culture into the game in a really cool way (though I would have liked more detail there)#also having auto language translators but they regularly don't translate quite right / still run into issues - realistic!#the parallels drawn between his being taken from his family and put in a state education school and Indigenous residential schools#the way that a future world will never be as separate from the past as ur average sff future often portrays#but yeah anyway lots of good ideas execution not so much for me..

yeah really the more time goes on and the more I'm like, Aria T'loak is genuinely one of the most evil characters in the Mass Effect universe, and it's pretty wild the games don't ever really reckon with that in any meaningful way
like when you encounter almost any batarian (except the one who thinks you're cool for very superficial reasons) it's fair game to gouge their four eyes out of their skulls and bomb them to oblivion and back, but Aria T'loak doesn't even get a light tap on the wrist for hosting and profiting from the biggest slave trade hub outside of batarian space, not to mention owning slaves herself (sorry Omega DLC: indentured workers 🙄 because that changes everything) (my conspiracy theory is that "indentured workers" line comes from a rewrite that realized just harsh it would sound if she was just ousted out as a slave owner given Shepard's general hard stance on the matter, and so it was "softened" instead to maker her more approachable and "gray" instead of straight up the actual worst)
Like. I know she's hot and cool, psychologically fascinating (if you ignore all of the non-canon material) and says very interesting things about being an asari and all of the ways power is barred from you (in spite of your species supposedly being the leaders of the galaxy even if there are basically very little proofs this is actually the case culturally and politically speaking beyond what the Codex says) and how to take it anyway, and she is all of these things, but she also easily finds herself among the worst this universe has to offer by a long mile. She takes the boundless abuse and profit that comes with preying on systematically-enforced poverty and disempowerment, and then mixes it up with the acceptability of integrating Omega in the global economy (covertly but still, it's undeniable the connexions are there) and tightening relationships with the proper little politicians of the Citadel who are supposedly against everything she represents. Everyone is to blame in this arrangement of course, but she is the one maintaining it for her own benefit. And then she goes on to say "this is just how things work, I'm just a rebel following my own path, having to maintain a tight ship in a cruel cruel world I'm the only one shrewd enough to come on top of". And we believe her for some reason!!!! And I wish the games (especially in Mass Effect 3 + Omega DLC) would see that manipulative little charade for what it is!!!!

RIGHT! I'm going to judge everyone with their doppel choices!!! Get ready for long post
In all seriousness, you're entitled to your own opinions and this is just a bit of fun. I'm genuinely interested to see the most popular doppels and I KNOW there are no set rules for the votes as the account has stated so peoples choices may be for gameplay etc etc. So, no meanness, right? It's all in jest (m-mostly...)
Tumblr media
Giovanna time! I agree very muchee, I'm not a big fan of swimsuit Giovanna. Yeah she's cute but I dunno I just don't like the sail and that's such a big part of it. I understand why og and anime are equal cause anime Giovanna was FIRE and the new take on it in-game works well. Og deserves well because duh, its the og and anime deserves well too cause it's on par. But Infinite Giovanna ough, left the girls in the dust. Beautiful colours, beautiful combination of Giovanna and Shitori Egumo. She's beautiful and she knows it!
Tumblr media
The first disagreement. Tanabata Campanella falls into the 'its too busy i dont have a clue whats going on and thats not a good thing' camp for me. Yes the colours are pretty but damn there's too much going on. And the colours on her spine bit are way too much overall. I get it but it's not for me. I'm glad my choice is second though. Historia Campanella is.... is not Campanella that's the eiffel tower and anime Campanella is just ugly. They removed the lantern which is such a good part of the og. the hint of red works so well and the ugly four shoes are a) large and ugly and b) dont fucking fit! The only thing i like is the hat but do i like it more than og? Not really, its on par
Tumblr media
Alright THIS is my first 'um hello, what are you guys doing?' Tiracchana is awful, what are you on? I definitely feel the magis are affecting choice here cause I know Yuna is popular. I'm sorry but her doppel is shit. So ugly and such a mishmash of bad aspects. I'm sad Merkava is so low in comparison cause her theming is cool and she actually looks good. Done dirty... But like, how the fuck is halifax winning? She's just a fucking guillotine for petes sake... Im not a fan because it irks me but come on this is not the best design. Lakehurst done dirty waaa... she's such a cool mix of animal and machine and she works so well. Not too busy and has a clear theme. I suppose the only thing that isnt so great is the tongue since its colour sticks out so much. Very disappointed in everyone...
Tumblr media
W-Why none of y'all like Marguerite?? What's she done wrong?! She'd be my second choice. I think Cuauhtitlan is fine but I struggle judging her since Im not knowledgable on the culture. But she does look very nice and the colours are good. I like Marguerite for her kinda castle/tank-y feel. The colours are nice and the structure is interesting! She kinda falls into 'this doesnt look like a witch and moreso an object' bracket but its not that bad... im so sad she's unpopular... Now im surprised at Halomonas. Its just boring man... and she's definitely 'this doesnt look like a witch and moreso an object'. Just nothing in it is particularly fun or cool, I just find her so boring. I suppose Alexandra's integration is good though, but otherwise... Unbased. But I'm very happy with Vlastenske! I looooove clowns!!! And she's super creepy and fun! You should be winning, sweetie
Tumblr media
Sigh. Hepialidae is shit, what are you on? Moths are so important to the theme and story magireco and yet this rando has a moth witch? It's so out of left field and doesnt suit her theme as far as I know. I wanted her to be a vampire witch so bad back in the day... The colours are ruined by the leg parts too. Like hello? Where do those ugly purples and greens come from?! I suppose Kushu's integration is nice though. I understand Henrietta's low score. She falls into the object category but at least she's pretty. Sad about Don Rocinante though... I get she is a little boring but I do have metal bias... (looking at my fave Gisela... ) But compared to the others I still think she should be higher And man, I know Konomi is popular but... it... it's just flowers... c'mon...
Tumblr media
Yeah, shitty magirepo deserves to be last... I think all (not you rena-chan) are very good here and deserve to be equal. A little surprised Elfriede is lower... I suppose her theme is a little all over the place... the fingers at the bottom kinda come out of nowhere and the head is a little out of place. Cendrillon is very good but feels a tad like a number of things patched together. I think the neck and headpiece could be improved. I must admit I have a bias for Zola as Ive rather fallen in love with her (heehee oops!) I think she's so spooky and cool and the colours are great! It was kinda hard to choose out of three great doppels Oh uh, Cendrillon-chan... I forgot you were there... yeah Magirepo doppels are just lazy and awful, NEXT!
Tumblr media
Kogetsu winning as she should be... im furious the shitty Blot is not losing though... Komatsu falls into the mishmash category and there's a little too much going on. I wish she was more insect-like. I love Kogetsu though, the dragon is super cool as well as Chizuru's integration. It's just so satisfying to have such a circular silhouette too, she pulls it off well. Drekka Minni... sigh... does not deserve to be second. ITS A FUCKING BOAT. The only part I like is the dragon head but even then it doesnt fit in with ANYTHING else on the witch. I can barely even call her a witch... ugh... Oh and dear sweet Blot. Her witch is pretty good! But the doppel... The doppel is like 1/6th of the witch and they didnt even choose a good bit. Ugly, boring, lazy, and Gunhild has a shit utilisation. If you voted for her we are not friends.
Tumblr media
Cassandra deserves to be first for sure and I totally see why Vimala is low. Im not a big fan of Apebis but the design is still pretty good, deserves to be high. I see why Vimala is unpopular as she really just looks like an object. A very pretty object but just an object. Everyone is pretty good here so Im glad most are pretty equal. Magatsu is spooky and cool and so is Cassandra. Maybe they can be spooky gfs from across time
Tumblr media
What do you fucking mean no one likes Gosirsa??!! I'm mad Oaji is high hissssss Tara is very pretty and I love a Yokai cameo but she's a little too busy for my liking. Oaji.... Oaji is an object c'moooonnn... she's way too simple why is she top??? There are aspects I like like the reflection and stark red but not enough there. Marita is beautiful so im glad she's at least second. The theme is creepy and the colours are so pretty. But why no love for Gosirsa?! She's teetering on mishmash but I dont think she's that bad! The colours are nice and I love the mechanical bull theme! I get the wheels look a bit weird and not great but that's only one part... Poor girl...
Tumblr media
No Aztekium love... yeah, she's not great... the cactus rail gun is not made very well. It's just two objects splortched together... Glad Abigail is high cause she's super fun. Nice colours and fun theme. I'm surprised 9daime is so high since she kinda falls into mishmash... at least the colour scheme is pretty good. I dont like how most of the pieces just don't really go together. Makes sense that Oxford is second cause this isnt a very strong bunch. I hate Miyuri's shitty feet theme but at least Oxford has nice colours and although the legs are busy, I think its pretty okay and the mass of patterns are fun.
Tumblr media
WHAT ARE YOU ON JING IS BEAUTIFUL!!! Very unbased. I think the magi chose this one... >:( But... most of these are pretty good... but that doesnt mean Jing can be so low! Catacombe is very cool and has a good overarching theme and colour scheme. Im not so fond cause her colours are a little drab. I think Totentaz is a little boring, not enough going on I suppose and I dont think the wispy arms work. Otherwise she's fine, pretty but a little boring. But mannnnn Jing is so beautiful! I dont understand... the Chinese opera theme is BEAUTIFUL! I love her flowers and the trailing parts and how creepy she is when you look close... sigh... Casuarius is my least favourite here. Dunno, just don't get with her. The colours are very good and I love the symmetry and how Mikage is framed but I don't know if I like how the head part is put together, feels a little like separate things smooshed together without much thought.
Tumblr media
When I first voted Frederica was so high and I was SO mad. She's awful, one of the most boring witches. It's just eyes and a jpeg of flowers man... I'm so glad she's at the bottom now. I like the patterns of Hevelius but she is just a lump so I get why she's low. Etteilla is super pretty but I definitely prefer her witch. She's on equal par to Gibdaughter to me. I only chose her cause of my silly metal bias :)c heehee I love Gibdaughter, the metal punk bird is great and I love Kanae's unique hood. These two deserve to be equal
Tumblr media
This was a hard pick between ED Catacombe and Totentaz. The first two definitely fall into 'too detailed' for me. Like, man, look at Catacombe she has a whole party going on on her. Dunno if Elfriede deserves to be so low but they're all good. I like her pumpkin theme. I only chose Catacombe because Im not so fond of Totentaz. Does she deserve to be so high..? Eh, no... I think she's only so popular because she's the one that hurts your eyes the least. I think she's good, I LOVE the head cage thing but her bone scythe is too ugly and lumpy looking. I know ED Catacombe does look a little silly with her Papyrus Undertale skulls but I just love the colours and theme. She just works better for me.
Tumblr media
These are all pretty equal to me, no idea why Nenemu is so low. Do people just not like Nemu lol? Nolde is pretty, love her colours and matchstick theme. So is Nenemu though I get that she feels a little more busy. I love the eye hands and head, she's more spooky. I dont think Shitori Egumo deserves to be so high. She's nowhere near as cool as her witch but she's still good. Maybe my least favourite? But otherwise they're still pretty on par. I chose Sukhavati because I love her patterns, especially when she opens up. It's a bit of a disservice not showing that aspect. Plus I love a rafflesia lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hmmmmmm. You want some controversy? Charlotte's doppel isnt that good guys. You know what the best part of Charlotte is? Her face. Her eyes and her huge mouth. And here..? Um... tiny mouth and no eyes. They took away her best parts! So sorry not sorry she isn't that good. Doppel Oktavia is way too stout for me. Why did they make her so fat? (not fatshaming at all, a plus sized oktavia would be beautiful but she usually isnt) Her head is so iconic why did they remove it and totally change her visor? I just think they ruined such a good witch. And Candeloro absolutely does not use enough of the witch. Its so painful cause I love Candeloro and Mami... She does not need to be that small and insignificant. I chose Ophelia cause um, the witch is actually there!! And I think the horse utilisation is actually smart! This definitely looks more like a witch popularity contest and no one actually looked at the doppels...
Tumblr media
Ehh... swimsuit doppels are hard... They're just always so... busy... Meh... Why does no one like Ophelia though??? You're lame... Oktavia is fine. I like the surfboard and colours. I think the different kind of fish is cool but she barely looks like Oktavia anymore... Swimsuit Candeloro is pretty and has nice colours but MAN its way too busy. Swimsuit Ophelia is a bit all over the place. Some colours dont fit in and the turtle looks kinda bad. Swimsuit Charlotte is probably my second fave cause the colours are nice and the mishmash theme kinda suits her but man, some of the pieces look so out of place. Stick with a consistent art style...
Tumblr media
Why is Luca so high? Egh... I think Luca's shape is overall so ugly and not good looking. The decorations a kinda okay but way too messy to see what you're looking at. I find her so hard to judge cause I know there's a deeper meaning I dont quite get so she's always on the fence for me. Im a Breadman hater. Why is she so unique? Why is she separate to Sudachi? What makes you so special??!! Too weird, feels like they're trying too hard to be cute. Gothel is pretty. Love the colours and the rapunzel spin. And I love me a set of ribs!! Valentines Breadman is a little better to me, I think a mishmash really suits the chocolate theme. Should be higher than regular Breadman.
Tumblr media
Naomi is one of the first doppels I saw so maybe im biased lol. Broiderie is too grey and complex for me. But otherwise she's very beautiful and suits the mushroom theme very well. Not a fan of her weird foot though. Sigh... Heide Jekyll (shit name). I get it, I really do. But you could have made the design better!!! I know its a sensitive topic but you've still gotta make something that looks good! Naomi is beautiful, beautiful colours, I love the dual heads and stark red between the bodies. I kinda wish the arms matched the rest more but otherwise a clear winner. Yeah, Ganni deserves to be last. It's just a helmet man... A very beautiful helmet but just a helmet.
Tumblr media
Theresia at the top like she deserves! I LOVE how awful and grotesque she is! You go girl! Go torture someone! Yu Hong is good but a little boring to me. Wish there was more than just the balloon. Beatrice is very good but I kinda hate the bright purple and fleshy pink. Ouch that hurts the eyes. She's a little tooo weird for me (not a good overarching theme) but I like how grotesque she is (wow second time saying that, gross girls forever!) Also how was I today days old when I realised Beatrice-chan is differently coloured... fake fan... but still not great... Theresia sweep is deserved.
Tumblr media
Hrrnngghhhh Old Dorothy isn't that good guys.... It's just a bunch of circles c'mon... and the Nightmare-esque creature is so out of place. Why does she have it? You know, the things Homura made in her isolation field? Eh... Sad McDougal is so low, she was my second choice. How dare you put her next to the shite that is Hund Balou. But... she isn't great... very object-y and what is going on with that pink thing? I think Im biased cause i love her magical witch. Winchester is a great translation of the witch. Love her, no notes (well...) Only critique is that the colours are boring but that's obviously her shtick. Hund Balou... is like one of the only doppels that just look so badly drawn. The hands are awful, the hair is awful and the headpiece looks stuck on. BUT... the colours are very pretty and I love her dress. Oh and Hanna's utilisation is so unbearably lazy.
Tumblr media
This was kinda a battle of the worst for me... Only chose Winchester cause I like main Winchester. Old Dorothy is too busy, Yu Hong is just green with barely any additions, Cuauhitlan is WAY WAY too busy (but aside from the centre she is very pretty). Man, no one served at this party...
Tumblr media
Huh, another battle of the worst... Can we please not have a variant doppel that is unbearably busy? I chose Oktavia cause her colours are really pretty as well as the additions. But... w-why is she fat again??!! (see before, nothing wrong with large Oktavia but she... she isnt in the anime so where has this come from?!) Totentaz is finneeee... but its just a little boring... The green is ugly and the arm bits detract too much from the rest of it. (though i like the repeated red stripes). Tara is just WAY too busy and so is Henrietta. It's so hard to see what's going on... They are pretty but man... tone it down a bit!
Tumblr media
I hate Carola so so much its unbelievable. Its such a bad doppel... I need the full description to tell you how awful she is. I am so passionate about how much I hate this doppel (this is from a wip doppel ranking)
Tumblr media
Final Carola is... better... I wish this was her usual but im so weighed down by its previous shitness that I didnt vote for her... The colours are pretty and so are the patterns. Caterina isnt a win for me. I have no idea why she has a butterfly theme and I wish it was more like a book. Its beautiful... but not Umika. Im biased for Antonio cause I just think he's so cool???? It's... it's not Kaoru (like hello?? Where is the football theme?) but I just like him aaaa... this was kinda another battle of the worst. I think Final Carola is the best here. (Kazumi Magica you deserve so much betterrrr)
Tumblr media
I LOVE SYLVIIIEEEEE! :) ah, where were we... Im very on the fence with Vayu. My opinion changes every time I look at her... I like the shape and the utilisation of Shizuku makes sense but Im not so sure about the colours and the uhhh bag head..? Doesnt make sense to me. Her main witch works so much better. Gela is high for me cause I love cloowwnnnsss! Just kinda wish she wasn't 60% huge beige bag. Love a dual jester hat and two faces but the colours juusstt dont match so well. Tongue and wings dont work so great with everything as a whole. Mmmm heehee Sylvie!!!! I love wind up monkeys, I love maids, I love body horror, I love purple... hello? This diva has no flaawwssss! Why is Paparazzo so high.... its pretty lame... The colours are alright and I love the repeated circles theme but eh the camera body isnt doing it for me. And the eyes feel a little lazy. She's just a little lazy overall...
Tumblr media
Forget battle of the worst this is battle of the best! A-and Kriemhild-senpai... Doppel Kriemhild is sooo good... it is a total shame she kinda isnt Kriemhild but a Portable reference wins brownie points in Kit's book! Original is great! No notes. Swimsuit is also very good but it wasnt the winner for me cause she is just a liiiiittle too busy... otherwise the colours are GORGEOUS and she is very good. Haregi Kriemhild is also so beautiful. I think the green is integrated well (they could have fluked that so easily) and the circular background works so well with her overall. Deserves to be on par with the other two, not that low :( And uh Kriemhild-senpai..? Oh look, we've run out of time!
Tumblr media
Hrrnnnnnn...... okay Homulilly is great, very good interpretation of Portable Homulilly. Only gripe is that she's kinda one-note on colours. She could've used the red of Portable homu. Now... guys... cool Homulilly isnt that good... Rebellion Homulilly is such a good design and what did they use here?.... oh... oh uh... n-nothing... Where's the spider lily? Where's the gramophone? WHERES THE SKELETON?! It just doesnt do it for me, champ (and i know, this isnt specifically Rebellion Homulilly but c'mon! They were going there with everything else, why not go the whole way!) I think the Lotte are way too busy, if you were gonna do the Clara Dolls, do the fucking Clara Dolls, you have ALL the assets for them! No, she does not deserve to be top y'all are liars and skanks Swimsuit Homulilly... COME ON THE COLOURS ARE LOVELY! This was before variant doppels were stuffed to their britches with too much shit. She's so cute, I love the contrast of the blue and the cute spotty arms aarrghhh y'all are missing out... Haregi Homulilly is too busy and the colours are kinda wack. The 7 Gods of Fortune Lotte just don't work for me... it's too messy and ugly... very unbased here...
Wow that's all up to date! So? Did this make you hate me? I dont really mind lol Im half looking-forward-to, half nervous about what the rest of the results will be...

2.
Th€yne? Thram$ay? Gre¥$now? Nah man, let's Stan the true unproblematic hot Ironborn x thirsty Mainlander OTP:
Captain of the Myraham's daughter x Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter.
I want them to hook up. Let the captain of the Myraham's daughter live her erotic saltwife fantasy with the one (1) woman in Asha's crew that we know of, the one ironborn hot murderous pirate who would actually understand the struggle that is to act as a narrative prop for some authorial entity to showcase one of the Greyjoy's siblings lack of ideological integrity.
I have been marinating in my own theories with little to no contact with the fandom since 2016. I have a lot of weird non-sensical thoughts that might be overreaching in their significance but you know that already and the worst possible thing that could develop from posting this is that people will laugh at it.
I think that Kyra and Urri serve as similar narrative props for Theon & Aeron, I think Jeyne & Falia also serve as similar narrative props for Theon & Aeron and I also think that the Captain of the Myraham's Daughter & Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter serve as similar props for Theon & Asha.
In Theon's case the concept of the captain of the myraham's daughter has already been discussed countless times and in all honesty I don't have much to add to it. Yes, he does treat her rather disrespectfully, he does take advantage of her in a way, he doesn't really care for her physical pleasure, he is dismissive of her uneasiness and has a few unkind thoughts about her which made him so loathsome, but all in all I wouldn't call him abusive or violent. Just disappointing.
There is something unbelievably funny about how bad that sexual encounter goes though. The captain of the myraham's daughter is endearingly enthusiastic about the concept of thraldom and salt wives and even begs Theon to take her with him, something he denies her.
Why though? He has been romanticising the Old Way (Or what he thinks he understands about this idolised and romanticised view of the Old Way) the entire journey and if he truly considers himself to be one of the exemplary Ironborns who would take what they wanted with no qualms, why does he leave her there? She could have even served as an example of virility or status, a mark to say "I am Ironborn. I haven't forgotten our history and culture."
But no, he just leaves her there to the mercy of an angry father.
I know she has been read as a narrative vessel hundreds of times and she is one, but the message behind her presence varies depending on interpretation and, to me, this could be (among other things) a way of displaying Theon's subconscious lack of ideological compromise, which we see often through the text (his reaction to the raids on the stony shore, his disappointment at how commonly the other Ironborn treat him, Smiler, etc.)
To me Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter is also evidence for an ideological divide concerning Ironborn culture and tradition, but she is there to signify Asha's, not Theon's.
Ironborn culture is so interesting to me and I tend to think of it more fondly than I'm probably supposed to because of hundreds of reasons I've already told you about and one of those is that it allows women more liberties than most of Westeros but still chains them to a place of submission compared to men. A woman might be the captain of her own ship, which would make her a queen if going by Theon.
"If every captain was a king aboard his own ship, as was often said, it was small wonder they named the islands the land of ten thousand kings." (Theon | ACOK)
I think on the video games they could even become priestesses for the Drowned God, so if going by that as canon world-building (we shouldn't but it would be cool) they could also find a place in religious organisations. They can be stewards. The only two female stewards we have met in asoiaf are Iron Islanders (Manifesting for Noseless Jeyne to become Pyke or Harlaw's steward at the end of ADOS).
And yet...the most gender-non-conforming Ironborn woman we've met, asides from Asha...doesn't even get a name.
It seems curious to me how Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter is only known as that: "Hagen's daughter" and this coming from ASHA out of all characters who is actively struggling with her culture's sexism in order to get the seastone chair for herself.
Most Iroborn characters are referred to by mentioning some physical feature or disability accompanying their name, but in her case, instead of her name, we get her father's name used with a possessive apostrophe.
The main difference between Asha's character archetype and Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter's, is that one of them is lowborn and the other not, which could be a way of highlighting how class differences still exist among Ironborn, who consider themselves to be equals in their superiority of other races but still have a feudal hierarchy, but in all honesty the class issue is (in my opinion) overshadowed by how both characters identities are so depending on their fathers.
The text often remarks on Asha as someone who was "groomed" (the very use of that word in fanon text already has some unconscious troublesome connotation I don't agree with) into her personality by her father.
This girl forgets herself. Balon let her believe she was a man." "Balon’s sons are dead. All I see is Balon’s little daughter!" (Aeron | AFFC)
Never do they ever speak of her as "Asha" when it is about her wanting the crown; it's about Balon's daughter. (In a way it reminds me of the Northerner's going to save Arya and also not referring to her as such. They speak of "Ned's girl")
But anyway, I never really expected them to refer to Asha as Asha, but I would have hoped Asha would have been conscious enough of her struggles to recognise her fellow warrior woman as more than just her father's shadow.
Whenever people speculate on how Asha's interactions with other gender-non-conforming women (ex. Brienne, Arya) might look like, I just think of Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter. and wonder whether this comes from a place of class privilege or unconsciousness against the thing she is consciously fighting against.
I have no idea what Asha's endgame might look like and usually, I like seeing her as Theon's puppeteer, but if we have to witness her settling to be the unofficial ruler or perhaps not even a ruler at all, it would be sad to see her haunted by her father's shadow. It also makes me wonder whether she really ever had a chance at the Kingsmoot.
Whatever, another possibility I like to fantasise about is simply that Asha and Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter hooked up, dated, had a messy breakup and now Asha is trying to distance herself from her.
That's a funnier alternative. Would also add angst and maybe some comedic potential to the nameless ladies OTP.
Ship, ship, ship, I ship.

Lmao funny-slightly-not-funny story:
At church retreat one of my friends came back to our cabin and mentioned that she and the rest of the group were playing a game where they guessed each others' ethnicities. She then proceeded to list hers in percentages: Irish, English, Scandinavian, one indigenous great-grandparent. I thought "Hey! This will be funny!" and asked her to guess mine, thinking she would try to suss out my non-white heritage.
She immediately began running through different European nationalities instead. Irish, Portuguese, Scandinavian. She kept saying "Hmm, I know one of these" and I was a little confoozled because...............she's met my dad..............who is not easily identifiable as anything particular but also visibly nonwhite............and I was thinking "Surely she can't be thinking that by asking for her to guess my ethnicity, I really meant 'guess what European country my ancestors are from', right?"
I eventually prodded her into guessing my nonwhite heritage and she weakly suggested indigenous peoples before I laughed and told her I was half Chinese. She was........surprised?? Idk I knew I looked white but THAT white???? Ig if you're not familiar with Asian features it wouldn't be automatic but we were literally at that facility with a Chinese cultural group comprised of several hundred people, with some of whom I resembled. I was pretty surprised at how sheltered she seemed.
But then that got me thinking: The only people I've ever heard talk about their ancestry in percentages or those ancestry DNA tests or ask people what ethnicity they are...........are white people. They talk about how they're mostly German with a little bit of Irish and an indigenous grandparent here or there (and the way they talk about that is 😬) or mention being part Spanish or Greek like it's exotic and interesting. I don't hear Asian, African, South American, etc. ethnicities being listed there often, it's usually just European nationalities with a couple "exotic" mentions here or there.
And don't get me wrong, it's cool and fulfilling to know where you came from. Knowing your family history can be a very grounding thing that I want people to experience! But it feels less like they want to know where they came from, and more like they want to find a culture they feel like they're missing in their white Westernerness.
Knowing your distant roots might help you make sense of pieces of family history you already have, but it's not going to automatically give you a new status or something. You could choose to research and integrate yourself into your family's culture, but just saying "I'm like, 13% Swedish," isn't the cool addition to your personality you think it is. The culture they already have is interesting and special and important, they just don't think it is because they see being white as the default and all other races as unique cultures.
It was rather comical to think of being nonwhite participating in those guessing games. They'd just skip over you if you're visibly nonwhite, and hem and haw over your Norwegian or English vibes if you're not. There were a couple mixed Indian fellas in the original guessing group, and I could only imagine how they must have felt!
Anyway. Sheltered white people things.

I and Q for Kou, T and N for Rach, and W for both ❤️
Omg thank you so much for so many asks!! Fluff Alphabet
Inspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?
Where is my clown nose because y e s.
The most notable moment was when Kou (along with me LMAO) was thinking that she is in a good place mentally, and it’s on her to help one grumpy bodyguard to recall how to live for himself. And well, she did. But later it turned out that she… wasn't really living either but surviving. So here we both were, being scolded likes school girls by my mental image of a certain pixel man xD
And also, there were some consequences of Kou’s old trauma we both counted as resolved, and they also got better with time. I don't really like to talk about all this problem complex, but thanx gowo for being patient and respectful to her xD
And ugh she kinda broadened her horizons because of him? Started to learn his language and study culture to understand him better (poor granny Wako who became her guidance lmao) I can’t say she always is a smart student SHE IS NOT she is a chaotic i-know-better-i-m-gonna-act type but she is trying and its priceless
Q uirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.
IDK really. Does the ability to be an adorable gonk count? It's a very special ability I INSIST and it's hella handy in a relationship.
W ild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.
Goro is the one who should be thanked for Kou keeping her old eyes in her new life. Well, the shape was similar originally, but when ‘saka modified Kou’s body they installed their own optic, of course. It was a no good because when Goro visited Night City in 2082 (??? I don't rember my dates sorry) he met with Vik and got from him Kiroshi with integrated old fashion lenses similar to those Kou used to wear, and he promised Vik that when Kou is back she will be looking at the world with her own eyes.
So, there was a problem. Goro wasn’t in the position to demand anything openly as he needed to play it like he had no personal motives in bringing Kou back to life. But he needed this done so he reached out to one of the medtechs responsible for her modification and basically forced him to change her eyes (using threats and personal info, it was a REALLY unpleasant scene) and to hide all the information about this surgery. So, she’s got her Kiroshi that seemed like Arasaka optics to the whole system
I just think it’s neat
and thank you so much for rembering about ms Vogelman :3
Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?
Routine kills! Actually, Rachel has a kind of open relationship with her partner. Partly because she sometimes needs something new, partly — because she isn’t really into BDSM stuff and Meredith needs to see someone else for it (but mostly ‘cuz they both are busy and stressed af and sometimes don't see each other for a long time and don't mind about little something on the side as long as it says one-night stands)
Nicknames - What do they call their s/o?
Rachel shortens Meredith’s name to “Mer”. Meredith sometimes calls Rach Birdie because of her suname (Vogel means birb in german) and because Rachel likes to sing (she love musicals and knows a lot of cool parts)
Wild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.
When they get togeter again (after their break up in 2077, not long before game events end) they invited a lawyer to create terms of their relationship and signed the contract. Yes, for dating. I think, it’s cute for them lmao.

just because today is a lazy day, another post.. about mass effect 2, which i just finished, yay for vacations.
the main cerebus/collector story is garbage and there are waaay too many moments where your character is handed the idiot ball to make certain plot points work. honestly infuriating compared to the main plot of mass effect 1. if i can’t blow up the illusive man’s stupid head next game i’m gonna lose it. also........ what the hell is going on with the reapers. the galaxy is doomed right.
you can kind of tell they don’t have a plan for the reapers and are leaving all kinds of things open. a few examples: the premature supernova thing to go with the classic “these guys are trying to prevent entropy!!”, but also the fact that during scans, the only planets with a lot of element zero (if bioware were smarter they would have integrated refueling stations with planets and allowed scanning planets to imply more lore in this vein, it would redeem the mechanic somewhat) are “garden worlds,” which establishes a link between life and eezo, and may also provide yet another explanation for why reapers reap: organisms provide element zero somehow.
but the loyalty recruitment missions are very good... which saves this game because they are the majority of your active playtime. here is a review of all of them, in no particular order. since it’s long i’ll stick it under a readmore, and let whoever is interested (nobody) read more.
legion: honestly good recruitment quest, very understated introduction and the repear indoctrination thing is really well set-up. too bad it’s connected to cerberus being braindead and starts a timer. i wish your character could have told EDI to hold off on trying to integrate it but alas.
his loyalty quest is also great, gives some depth to the geth and also hits you hard with a pretty tough moral choice. i love how the geth function in ways similar to the quarians (their consensus-seeking thing for example is very similar to how quarians function) and how peaceful they actually are. legion is great as an AI character because he’s suitably alien, and i love the N7 thing suggesting that maybe he’s a fan of shepard lmao. a nice lil bit of humanity
also one of the few quests that tie back into the reaper main plot. legion correctly points out that the geth don’t want to work with the reapers because they want to forge their own destiny; it would have been really cool in some other timeline where you could take this advice from him re: reliance on the mass effect relays and such.
tali: recruitment quest is... eh, especially since we already meet her on horizon in a similarish situation, but it’s passable with npcs and such. her loyalty mission is a lot better and you finally get to see the inside of a quarian flotilla. the politics is nice and convos with tally really hammer in how oddly isolated they all are, and why they’d be so desperate to return to their homeworld
her conflict with her dad and the various views on the geth  are  just... really good. all the competing factions make sense (the “assume control” lady, the “let’s go to war’ guy, the “geth peace” guy, etc.)
mordin: recruitment quest great, having a doctor who is also willing to kill to protect is the perfect introduction to this character. it establishes him as being kind but also extremely pragmatic and ruthless, which fits in with his background.
his loyalty mission is also great, showing him the effects of the genophage on krogan culture. i like how he doesn’t change his opinion here, it’s very realistic, and maelon is also a good counterpart to him. it also reveals a lot more dimensions to mordin himself, like his spirituality (which you wouldn’t expect from an intelligence agent/doctor.)
but mordin kicks ass as a character and is one of the greatest character in gaming. i don’t think there’s any more observations i can add here.
samara: recruitment quest is average in terms of mission structure but samara’s introduction is great, really gives a look into this vestige of asari culture and how this paladinesque character would act.
the loyalty mission... well the first part is good, the second part proves that bioware writers are shut-in nerds who don’t know how people actually talk in nightclubs because i was rolling my eyes the whole time. nice that you can choose to be a complete dick and fail this mission though.
(also i definitely feel like recruiting her daughter is a stupid enough decision that you should just randomly lose members of your crew if you do it)
jack: recruitment mission is meh, loyalty mission is decent. perhaps too on the noise (the guy is very explicit with “so many bad things happened here it must be worth it!” which... okay, could have been more subtle with that.) it reveals jack’s pretty messed up beackstory but also that her “the strong survive” and the “xyz made me strong” attitude comes from the same place of “this experience *had* to be worth something!” mentality, which is one way of dealing with it, and i definitely felt like the mission helped her find a sort of closure.
(this mission involves cerberus but i refuse to give the organization respect by mentioning how collosally stupid the whole thing is. WHY would they recommend to recruit jack? whatever.)
jacob: pretty meh loyalty mission that could have been an exploration mission instead
miranda: sort of contrived final conflict in her loyalty mission, but i appreciate that there’s more to her than just I’M GENETICALLY SUPERIOR and that she on some level feels she’s coasting along on good genes and maybe has something undeserved about it. definitely humanizes her a bit beyond her smug snake personality generally.
thane: good recruitment quest; nothing to say except it establishes him as an assassin quite well as well as the more spiritual side of him. also the drell and hanar history is really fasincating and i love that he’s just like a reminder of mortality. in a world of badasses where you can make everything go your way, it’s nice that the game doesn’t give you an easy out/cure with this.
loyalty mission is unique in that *he’s* the failed parental figure, not someone being failed by a parental figure (same with samara, but with samara the asari condition feels contrived while thane i feel is a Reality Ensues situation for his character archetype.) i liked it well enough and appreciate how realistic it is that his son doesn’t immediately change. i also like that it’s pretty unique gameplay-wise; in no other section of the game is there a tailing type scenario. like samara’s quest you can actually fail this one.
garrus: the recruitment mission is probably one of the best-designed recruitment missions in the game, there’s a lot of stuff to do, and the reveal that our space batman was garrus was totally expected, but i like it and it’s a nice contintuation from ME1.
the loyalty mission is very straightforward and offers an interesting choice with a few outcomes--you can kill the guy and be “HELL YEAH” about it, kill him and be somber about it, like a mercy kill, or you can let him go. garrus isn’t a particularly complicated character but he is a Bro, so it’s nice to help him out.
grunt: recruitment mission had a good twist in that he’s not the one you came here for, and he’s an interesting concept in that he’s a krogan who’s disconnected from his species and doesn’t know why he would care.
loyalty mission isn’t great, just fighting waves of monsters, but it’s a good look inside krogan culture, and i like the idea of him finding a place despite being tank born, even if it is ultimately sort of simplistic and doesn’t say much in terms of character-work.
(i know there are two dlc companions and some dlc stuff, but i played the original game on xbox 360 sans dlc)

So hey. Rusty Quill Gaming ended.
I finally got a chance to listen to the last episode a week or so ago.
And... that epilogue (at least the first part of it) has me feeling some sort of ways.
(spoilers for RQG end + Epilogue ahead)
Where to begin...
I think I’ll begin with - I really loved that campaign as a whole. I loved the characters, and I loved the progression of the story, and so of course I hated to see it end. I think that’s a common issue for many things, and it doesn’t reflect badly on the podcast itself, regardless of how negative my feelings may be.
At the same time I have to admit a weakness and say that ‘all the magic is now purged from the world’ is one of my least favorite tropes in magical storytelling. I understand why it may make sense thematically. I understand WHY people are drawn to that ending in some circumstances. I understand that jokes about how magic builds reliance have their place, and how it’s a valid reading.
And yet.
Tumblr media
The fact that the world went mundane and all the characters (save for Hamid) seem to have moved on relatively quickly and without issue feels like such a slap in the face.
I don’t mean ‘moved on’ in the technical sense. I understand that the epilogue dealt with many fallouts of the world having to adjust to loss of magic. I appreciated the details added into that - the fact that communication has slowed, the fact that mass production has slowed, the fact that travel without use of Elementals has become a problem... Those are all very cool things to see in a worldbuilding sense.
But I feel that, aside from Hamid, none of the players have bothered to draw any attention to the emotional fallout of removing magic from the world wholesale.
Magic, which is a historically powerful, well researched and well known study of energy and matter, and the interaction of the real world and those beyond. Magic, which was some people’s life work - and some people’s life blood.
Einstein was a Wizard, for fuck’s sake. This was his whole LIFE. Yes, he is a bit wonky at this point in his life anyway thanks to magic, so he may be adjusting to this on a skewed scale.
And yes, Azu is the most emotionally adjusted of all of them so I can forgive her dealing with her lack of connection to her deity in private.
Yes, Zolf has always been an emotionally constipated asshole, and YES, he has had AMPLE experience with loss and grief, and this is not his first rodeo, so he is probably better equipped to handle this than most.
Even Wilde, who is a powerful bard in his own right, used his magic as a support for his other talents, and has things to fall back on which are not built entirely on magic.
But Hamid? Holy fuck, Hamid. Magic was him.
He is the YOUNGEST of all of them. Before beginning to discover his magical abilities, he didn’t have anything to call his own except his family’s money. He didn’t have anything he could be proud of - indeed he was deeply ashamed of the person he had become. He built his whole identity, his whole pride, on the basis of his draconic bloodline.
Magic - his birthright, his connection to his adventuring career, his reason to keep going - was torn from him and now he is just. Existing.
And damn, that hurts.
Tumblr media
Maybe I’m reaching here, maybe I’m projecting my own dependencies onto this sad little character. But I feel like people often underplay the importance of magic in a world that has co-evolved with it for so long, as has become so deeply entwined with its history, its cultures, its way of life.
It’s not just a shortcut for lazy wizards - it’s something they studied, understood, worked years of their life into. It’s not simply something that makes their life easier, it’s not a deus ex machina generator for real-life problems. It’s something that has literally existed alongside physics, and something as integral to their world as gravity is to ours.
I am an artist, at heart. I don’t pretend to be particularly exemplary at it - I didn’t go to art school. I just loved to draw. It was something I connected with early on, something that I called my own, and something I would always come back to as a form of self expression.
I keep imagining a world in which I had gone on a quest to save everything I’d known - and had unwittingly sacrificed art in the process.
I think about coming back into a world devoid of art. I think about realizing I could not draw - would never draw again. I think about flipping open empty comic books, trying to remember what they looked like. I think about stores, and libraries, and museums - empty of illustrations. I think about caves where the paintings of our ancestors have ceased to exist - our connection of them forever lost to time.
What would that be like? To lose a part of yourself so integral to your identity that it feels like the part of you that kept you alive has been wiped blank? How would you feel if the world simply tried to keep going? Would you have the strength to turn to something else, to try to find something new? Or would the betrayal of losing decades of your purpose sting?
In the epilogue, there was a gentle hint that Hamid avoids drinking now. I would not be surprised if it was the result of turning to drinking early on in that first year without magic. I can very easily imagine him feeling lost and alone, and wanting nothing but the numbness.
And I am glad that a few others seemed to have noticed it somewhat, but I feel like the weight of that sort of thing is nowhere near done being discussed. I hope it isn’t. I hope we hear how the others may have dealt with it. I hope we hear how Wilde can no longer make illusions. I hope we understand how Azu dealt with losing her friend Topaz, and her god, and her healing. I hope we get a glimpse into that world, and the suffering that rift had caused.
Because damn, it deserves mention.

The Sims 4: Four New Create-a-Sim Tattoos Coming in March
The Sims team has released a community spotlight blog, highlighting the work of leading tattoo artists who are working on 4 new tattoos for The Sims 4. The artists have developed a collection of special tattoos named “More Than Skin Deep,” that will be available through the Sims Delivery Express later this March. Check out the blog below!
The Sims 4™  is bringing a new selection of quite possibly the oldest, purest and definitely the most permanent form of self-expression to the Base Game.
To proudly recognize leading women in the industry, we’ve worked with four amazing tattoo artists who are shaping the future of tattoos for You Make The Sims, a series that spotlights creators across the world who inspire us. These women have developed a collection of special tattoos “More Than Skin Deep,” for Create-A-Sim that will be available through the Sims Delivery Express.
There’s Young 02, a Korean, Seoul-based artist known for her abstract expressions, figures, and vivid colors; Crys, a Taiwanese, Brooklyn-living tattooist who specializes in blackwork and floral designs (and she’s a professional esports athlete!); Mani, a Brazilian immigrant to the UK whose art celebrates Black Indigenous cultures and matriarchy; and Genesis, a NYC-bred skater-slash-tattooist who enjoys creating ornamental pattern work as well as illustrating insects and botanicals.
We sat down with these inspiring women to talk about what they designed for The Sims 4, their individual styles, what it’s like being a woman tattooist, and why adorning your body with art is the ultimate form of self-expression.
Let’s talk about tattoos! What excites you most about tattooing?
Crys: The people! This industry gives you the potential to meet so many different types of people, and I have made so many friends through tattooing. I also am super thankful to have the ability to always be able to learn and grow. I am constantly inspired by new artists, and hope to always keep improving my work.
Young 02: That I can leave something eternal in a person’s eternity.
Genesis: Learning, and growing as an artist. I get excited when I see the reaction of a client when they first see their completed tattoo and having the satisfaction of knowing that my knowledge/wisdom in this craft is paying off.
Now, how would you describe your work as a tattoo artist?
Crys: I am very versatile in style, however as I progress as an artist, I especially identify with gaming culture, anime, and flora and fauna tattoos.
Young 02: By using abstract forms and vivid colors, I give people time to think and talk about their stories and feelings, and comfort their minds.
Genesis: My work is very multifaceted. I go back and forth between simplicity and complexity. Some days I do very illustrative/detailed work, other days my work is very simplistic in nature. Themes pertaining to my work includes natural archetypes, such as planets, the Occult, spirituality, and ornamental pattern work integrated with magic. I enjoy creating intuitive designs for my clients which assists them in fulfilling their desires and manifestations pertaining to their own spiritual journey.
We can absolutely see these styles come to life in the tattoos you created for The Sims. Can you tell us more about these designs and why you created them?
Crys: The designs I created were based mainly on the theme of anime and floral components. Recently, a lot of anime’s have female leads, but it’s really cool to see a surge in allowing these females to be powerful without the damsel in distress trope. Without being literal, the tattoo itself can represent the balance between beauty and power, and just how special that connection is.
Young 02: I drew it by comparing the beauty of women to nature. Just as nature is beautiful in any way it exists, I wanted to say that women are beautiful in that way. We all are perfect!
Genesis: The designs I created for The Sims are similar to the kind of designs I normally do for my clients. Tribal repetitive patterns along with some celestial serpent energy for The Sims! I tried my best to create designs that I felt would grant players the option of creating an avatar with a spiritual context. Some people like to be completely covered in tattoos; however I wanted to grant players the option of having simplicity while still being adorned.
We can’t wait to see players start experimenting with these tats! Now, let’s learn a bit about yourselves. How did you become a tattoo artist?
Crys: My love for tattooing stems back to when I was a child in Taiwan. I would go down to the boat docks where there were old biker dudes covered in traditional tattoos. My parents thought differently, but art on skin has always intrigued me, and I started drawing on people as a kid. Even though I did classical music throughout my youth, I came to New York for art school and through word of mouth I ended up getting a job at my first shop as a shop girl.
Young 02: I’ve always felt that tattooing is very attractive in that I draw on the body, not on canvas.
Genesis:  My love for tattoos began when I was 14 years old. I was always interested in art growing up, but it wasn’t until I started watching music videos that I saw some of my favorite musicians wearing markings on their skin. The idea of translating my artwork into a medium that can be worn on individuals seemed very appealing to me; as well as the idea of wearing my story on my skin. I met my first mentor in college, who was also studying the same major as me, graphic design; he was already a tattoo artist. A conversation was initiated between the two of us and the rest is history.
Because these tattoos are meant to celebrate what it means to identify as women, what makes you proud to be a woman in the tattoo industry?
Crys: To be a female artist is to embrace my ability to empathize and connect with my clients on a personal level. As we grow as women, we often realize there are many obstacles. However, these obstacles present themselves as opportunities for growth and self reflection. While many negative gender and industry stereotypes exist, it makes me proud that I am able to overcome challenges as well as create a nurturing and positive environment. For me, being a female artist is having the ability to embrace fierceness and fragility both in kind.
Young 02: Tattoos make people more themselves. Tattoos are a very powerful and permanent way to express people who you are. As a female tattoo artist, I’m very proud to help other females express themselves to be themselves.
Genesis: Just being a female alone in a male dominated industry and making strides in my career despite the obstacles that are purposely placed in this industry to limit women make me  feel not only proud of myself but very grateful to have made it this far in my career.  Through my experience alone I can inspire other women to go against the grain of what’s expected from females in this industry. I want to inspire women to refuse taking no for an answer, to stand firm in their convictions and not feel that they have to compromise their bodies, or freedom of speech or autonomy in order to learn this craft. I want them to know that if we aren’t welcomed to table in this male dominated industry, we’ll just make our own seating arrangements at our own table.
To close out our conversation, what do you hope people take away from you, your work and the tattoos you are bringing to The Sims?
Crys: I hope that people will be happy with whatever choices they make in life. I hope my tattoos are a reminder of the experience they had, whether it’s meaningful, or nothing, or everything. Ultimately. I hope my tattoos and my work are reminders to be happy for that person wherever they end up in life, and to always strive for improvement. There is so much room to grow.
Young 02: I draw/tattoo about peoples’ feelings and stories. I use abstract expressions, figures, and vivid colors so I can express stories, or feelings, of various spectrums and hide them if I want. I want people who look at my paintings (or getting tattoos from me) to feel and imagine whatever they want. I want them to make their own stories or feelings when they look at my artworks so they can have time to look into their hearts and take care of themselves.
Genesis: I hope players are inspired to get more body adornments in real life. I also hope that they are inspired to integrate their interests into different modalities.
The four Create-A-Sim tattoos will be available later in March in The Sims™ 4 on PC and Mac via Origin™ and Steam®, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One systems.

How about Jangobi, with 4, 16, 36, 37?
Thanks for playing!  This one is a little bit of a challenge because, as I noted before, this is a ship I don’t really think about unless a particular gifset reappears on my dash and then I think about it for like fifteen minutes.  Getting it to work requires changing the plot quite a lot, of course, and I prefer to get the changes going from the very start of their interaction.
4.  First impression of each other? Was it love at first sight?
Temuera Morrison has noted that at the beginning of the scene, his “hospitable Māori” impulse was to offer Obi-Wan a cup of tea, but since he wasn’t sure they have cups of tea in space he decided to just stick to the script.
So in my version, he does offer him a cup of tea and Obi-Wan accepts and so they sit down with their tea and it’s all rather disarming.  Obi-Wan is still highly suspicious of Jango (which is only sensible) and Jango is still playing everything very close to the chest, but the mood is slightly softened by the sharing of tea - and if they’re feeling lavish, biscuits too.  Obi-Wan’s head is full of questions, like “What sort of man is this?  Ruthless bastard, or perhaps not totally ruthless, given the little boy?  Was he involved in an assassination attempt on a rather good friend of mine?  What can I find out about all this cloning business from him without letting him know how little I knew in the first place?” while Jango has two main questions, “How much does he know?” and “Am I going to have to do something about him?”  And he’d rather not have to do something about him, because he likes the look of him and this kind of cagey verbal game-playing is his idea of a bit of light fun.  Then again, he is a Jedi and they generally spell trouble - but there’s no reason not to enjoy being around him while the opportunity lasts.
Oh, and while this conversation is going on, Boba is sitting on the floor nearby playing with his space Lego and every time Obi-Wan glances that way he’s looking daggers of suspicion at him.  Obi-Wan actually finds it rather amusing to be glared at like that by a cute little kid (he’s like an angry kitten) so he just smiles back and twinkles his eyes at him (Boba looks disgusted), and asks Jango how old his son is, and they agree that eleven’s a very nice age, before all the teen angst begins.
Jango says calmly, “I’m not expecting to have much trouble with Boba,” and Obi-Wan replies, “Ha!  I wasn’t expecting to have this much trouble with Anakin,” so that gets them onto the difficulties and rewards of bringing up a bright and adventurous boy, whether as his dad or as a sort of older brother figure, and sharing stories about things Boba and Anakin have said and done, and before Obi-Wan knows it they’ve been chatting for an hour and he’s got completely side-tracked from finding out about clone skulduggery and has slipped into flirting with Jango fairly shamelessly.  Which doesn’t necessarily mean anything, Obi-Wan will flirt with more or less anything that can talk back, but he’s realising that there’s an awful lot of charisma about Jango and he’s beginning to feel fascinated.
So no love at first sight, but in later years (because they do have later years together, Jango doesn’t lose his head) Obi-Wan likes to say, “You had me at ‘cuppa tea?’”
(but he really sealed the deal when he offered him a Tim Tam)
16.  Do they keep secrets? Lie? Cheat?
To start out, Jango is keeping all sorts of secrets and lies freely whenever he considers it necessary, or just convenient.  It’s only gradually, as he grows to like Obi-Wan personally more and more, that he begins to want to be honest with him.  For a while they have one of those “frenemies who encounter one another occasionally and engage in flirtatious banter and/or homoerotic combat” type relationships, but over the course of the Clone Wars as they meet again and again they get into situations where they need to trust and help each other, and Jango has cut ties with the Separatists because he prefers to be a free agent, and Obi-Wan begins to hope that if he had a strong enough personal reason, Jango might want to lay off the shady business and... and there he runs up against the fact that he shouldn’t be thinking in these terms, he can’t have that sort of relationship with Jango any more than he could with Satine, he just really really wants to.  And at least Jango doesn’t have a philosophical or ethical problem with violence.
Obi-Wan isn’t actually celibate, he squares it with himself that his flirtations and anonymous hook-ups aren’t deep attachments or possessive relationships and therefore they are within the letter if not entirely the spirit of the rules, and the first few times it happens with Jango that justification works, but it starts to wear thin when he realises how much he misses him after he leaves.  When Jango, thinking he’ll surprise Obi-Wan when he unexpectedly sees him in a bar, walks in on one such hook-up, he’s angry and upset and Obi-Wan is rather shocked and thrilled to realise Jango considers this cheating, that he cares  enough to have hurt feelings about it.  He’d been thinking of himself as emotionally compromised without quite realising Jango couldn’t just take or leave him.  That’s really the “Oh” moment for Obi-Wan.
So after a while they’re not keeping secrets from each other, but Obi-Wan is working very hard to keep the relationship a secret from the other Jedi, including his closest friends, and telling a lot of lies in the process (there is at least one comedy episode wherein Obi-Wan is trying to sneak away to see Jango and Anakin is trying to sneak away to see Padmé and each keeps getting in the other’s way without ever realising there is sneakiness on the other side).
Not to mention keeping it a secret from all the clones.  Boy, is that a weird situation.
36.  What’s their greatest strength as a couple? Their weakness?
They have excellent chemistry and both love sparking off each other, verbally and/or more physically.  They always find each other exciting and interesting.  Not so much a weakness as an obstacle is the fact that Boba still really doesn’t like Obi-Wan and doesn’t need a stepdad and thinks he has stupid hair (that part really stings).  He’s always been the apple of his father’s eye and never had to share his attention with anyone else he really cared about, so his dad actually falling in love with someone makes him feel insecure and jealous and grumpy.  Obi-Wan’s attempts to win him over are complicated by the fact that he can’t actually explain to anyone else why he’s trying so hard to be nice to snotty teen bounty hunting prodigy Boba Fett.  Boba really enjoys holding this over his head - but will never actually drop the blade because, as little as he likes his dad’s boyfriend, he is just grown-up enough to realise it would really hurt his dad if he spoiled things for them, and he doesn’t want to go that far.
37.  How much would they be willing to sacrifice for the other? Any lines they refuse to cross?
That’s the big problem, isn’t it?  Crossing lines.  Obi-Wan has a very strong moral, religious and cultural code, and he can’t sacrifice that without undoing his whole sense of identity.  He can be dangerously complacent about the rightness of the Jedi Order and the Republic it defends and persists in believing that if Jango only understood more about the Jedi he would accept that rightness.  From his perspective it often appears as if Jango doesn’t have a moral code at all.
From Jango’s point of view, yes he does, but it’s very pragmatic and based more on principles of loyalty and personal integrity than on adherence to any laws or rules.  If he’s true to himself and to the small circle of people he cares about, that’s all that matters.  He cannot and will not compromise on his duty to Boba as a father, and that comes before even all those complicated issues of Mandalorian politics - but those issues will inevitably cause problems for them too, particularly given that even if he’s been able to get over his romantic feelings for Satine as his feelings for Jango grew, she’s still one of Obi-Wan’s oldest and dearest friends and he doesn’t want her to be overthrown.  And of course Jango is far from the only person who might want to overthrow her.
Somehow all this is going to eventually involve a lightsaber/Darksaber duel between Maul and Jango in the Mandalorian throne room.  Holy shit that would be cool.  Fuck yeah!
uhhhh I don’t know whether or how any of this gets resolved but there’ll be ANGST and STURM UND DRANG and other German words for heavy shit.

He's Cool!
Movie/Game/Show: My Hero Academia (Heroes: Rising) Dynamic: Izuku Midoriya/Reader (Katsuma and Mahoro/Reader - Platonic) Warnings: alluded to manga spoilers (like big ones) Summary: Izuku walks the eldest Shimano home and is given a teeny reward. ~~~
“Hey, hey! What do you guys think you’re doing?” (Y/n) called out to her little siblings, who had run out far ahead of her on the sidewalk, “Get over here, you two.”
Katsuma was immediate to rush back to his eldest sister’s side, Mahoro stomping and trudging her way to (Y/n) as the teenager was carrying groceries. Reaching up, Katsuma tightly clutched to the girl’s skirt, nervously bringing his other hand into his chest while Mahoro crossed her arms.
“Geez, I know that not a lot happens here but I still worry, you know?”
“Sorry, (Y/n),” Katsuma timidly mumbled.
Pursing her lips, Mahoro grumbled slightly before relenting, “Sorry…”
Setting down her groceries, (Y/n) knelt down in front of her little siblings with a small smile, ruffling both of their heads of hair, “It’s fine, just don’t go running off like that again, okay? I’m in charge of you, and I love you, if something happened - I wouldn’t know what to do.”
“Call that stupid ‘hero’ you’re staring at all the time,” Mahoro rolled her eyes, fixing her pigtails.
“Huh?” an uneven grin slipped over the girl’s lips, “Deku? I’m not staring at him all the time. He just passes by and I glance at his cool costume - I wanted to be a hero, too! I can appreciate someone following their dreams!”
Katsuma wrings his hands together as his sister stands and picks up the groceries once again, following after her as she walks, “You do glance an awful lot…”
“Deku’s just really cool.”
Mahoro blew a piece of hair from her face, “Not really.”
“Whatever,” (Y/n) lets that conversation die before picking up a new one, “I’ll be at work tonight, so Ms. Yakunitatanai is going to be watching over you when I leave, okay?”
“I can look after Katsuma by myself, you know? We don’t need a stranger in our house…”
“Ms. Yakunitatanai isn’t a stranger, she’s been babysitting for us since I was younger than you. Dad trusts her and I do, too. Besides, Deku patrols here often enough, I could get him to check in on you, too,” (Y/n) rose a brow at her baby brother, “You’d like that, yeah?”
She knew Katsuma looked up to heroes, and specifically, Deku seemed to be an inspiration to him - it was evident in the way his face lit up at the mention of the boy. It was adorable, to see the way he carried such an admiration through his life even though their sister ridiculed it.
Though, she understood her little sister’s disdain of heroes as well. The entirety of hero culture was sickening to (Y/n) even aside from the popularity contests. But she wasn’t about to crush a 6-year-old’s dream on her own hatred.
As the trio of Shimano siblings came upon their home, Mahoro pushed the front door open and held it for her older sister and little brother. Watching as (Y/n) set the bags on the counter and beginning to put away their frozen goods first.
Katsuma rushed over to his eldest sister’s side, reaching up and pulling at one of the bags until (Y/n) grabbed it and pushed it further onto the counter, “Careful, Katsu, there’s heavy fruits in here, I don’t want you getting hurt, okay?”
“Sorry…”
“No, no, you’re not in trouble,” the girl leaned down to kiss her baby brother’s forehead, “Here,” she handed him a smaller bag, “Put those away for me, ‘kay?”
“Hm, okay,” he peeked down into the bag to see toothbrushes and deodorant.
Mahoro came over, smugly reaching up and taking the bag with much less struggle than Katsuma could, and began putting away the melons. She looked over to see if her sister was watching - see, she was mature, she could watch them both. No need for Ms. Yakunitatanai to come over at all or that so-called hero Deku.
She could handle herself.
“I don’t doubt that,” (Y/n) hung up her cashier’s apron as her boss spoke, “but really, if you want me to walk you home, I will.”
“Thank you, Ma’am, I appreciate it, I do, but I’ll be fine.”
“If you’re certain. Be sure to call me if anything happens, got it?”
“Got it,” (Y/n) called over her shoulder as she clocked out for the night.
Leaving her boss at the store to lock up, (Y/n) looped her purse strap around her arm as she went walking down the sidewalk to her home. Well, her father paid for it while he was working, but she ran it.
While father was away, (Y/n) was in charge. She was able to balance work and looking after her siblings - and she wouldn’t trade them for the world. And when the school break ended, she could balance schoolwork on top of it all. She was the closest thing to a present adult that either Katsuma or Mahoro consistently had in their lives. She had to keep up appearances.
Maybe if (Y/n) lived in the city, or really anywhere with any sort of crime statistics, she would’ve been more alert at the sound of footsteps clambering behind her.
It was probably just some kid late home from a friend’s house. Easy enough solution to the question of their source, right?
That was until she felt hands pull at her purse, not nearly strong enough to even actually take it from her grip.
Yanking her purse, (Y/n) wrangled it to where she could finally see who had the gull to give a noncommittal purse snatching. Of course, she noted as her eyes found the perp, some elementary kid who needed a few extra bucks.
The kid’s eyes widened at having been caught, they widened even more so when he felt a hand grab at the back of his shirt. Turning up, the kid panicked at the sight of one of their new local heroes, Deku, holding him.
Setting down the child, Izuku gave him a lopsided smile, “You can’t just go around taking things that aren’t yours, if you need help you can always just ask for it. If you need money, just come to me - it’s a hero's job to help citizens!”
Scoffing, the kid only kicked Izuku in the shin before dashing off, “Dick!”
“Ah, Deku, are you okay?” (Y/n) came to the boy’s side, hands falling on his shoulders as he leaned over and clutched to his shin, “I wish I had some ice or something…”
“No, it’s fine,” Izuku awkwardly chuckled, desperately trying not to show how mortified he was to have been kicked in front of the girl, “Are you okay?”
“Of course, it was just a little inconvenient, that’s all…” she stood up as Izuku did, giving him a small smile, “I know that’s probably the most action you’ll see here, but thanks for everything you do around here. We all really appreciate your work.”
“Oh, thank you,” rubbing the back of his neck, Izuku was thoroughly grateful for the darkness hiding his reddened cheeks, “My classmates and I really enjoy being here, it’s just peaceful enough for us students to handle.”
“Right, your classmates,” (Y/n)’s brows shot up in remembrance of 1-A, “I forgot they existed…”
There was silence until Izuku awkwardly cleared his throat, nerves burning at his gut, “Can I… can I walk you home? It’s fine if not, I totally get it, why would you want a virtual stranger to walk you home I mean- “
“Deku, it’s fine,” resting a hand over his bicep, (Y/n) restrained herself from showing how awestruck she was at his muscle, “If you want, I wouldn't be against you walking me home.”
“Great!” he cheered before shaking his head, “I mean, cool… that’s cool. I’m glad.”
The pair walked down the sidewalk side-by-side. Izuku’s heart thrumming roughly into his ribs at the presence of the eldest Shimano. It was a bad idea, in hindsight, to develop such a crush on a girl on Nabu Island when he knew he’d have to leave by the end of school’s break.
But then again, he didn’t really find himself caring all too much when (Y/n) opened her mouth to ask, “So, how’s the mini-agency coming along? The only thing I’ve seen about agencies are Hawks’ PR nightmares.”
“Ah, yeah, he has a lot of those…” Izuku chuckled before sighing quietly, “It’s not too bad, which makes sense. I’m pretty sure U.A wouldn’t put kids in danger intentionally.”
“I don’t know, hero schools like that kinda rub me the wrong way…”
“I can see why, U.A does have a lot of mishaps, huh?”
“I’ve read about some of those ‘mishaps’,” (Y/n)’s eyes drifted to her shoes as they walked, “I’m sorry about all of that, I wouldn’t know how to deal with a villains attack, let alone three all before I graduated high school.”
“We manage,” Izuku shyly mumbled. He understood criticisms of the school, sometimes he even questioned the integrity of the board himself. Shaking his head, the boy changed the subject, “How’re Katsuma and Mahoro doing?”
“Aw, they’re great. Mahoro still doesn’t like you guys,” she giggled at how Izuku deflated slightly at the statement, “But Katsuma adores you all. He’s always wanted to be a hero so your class is a real inspiration to him, especially you.”
“R-really?” he stammered, lips pulling up at her words, “That’s great! I didn’t think anyone would find me to be an inspiration to them.”
“Who wouldn’t? I don’t even wanna be a hero and you inspire me to just… I don’t know - do good around the town,” (Y/n)’s hands tightened around her purse, “Your kind heart, cute smile, and golden brain - you're just so cool.”
As the pair came up to the girl’s house, Izuku’s blush grew stronger, “What was that?”
“Golden brain?” she turned after stepping upon her doormat.
“Before that.”
“Kind heart?”
“After that.”
“Cute smile.”
“Oh, so I- I didn’t mishear you,” he ran a hand through his hair, looking away from the girl sheepishly.
“Sorry if that was forward, I just think you’re really cute.”
Izuku shifted his eyes between his shoes and the girl’s eyes before bunching out, “Thanks… I think you’re cute, too.”
“Maybe we could be cute together sometime, when you’re not busy with the agency?”
“I’d like that! A lot, actually… eh, I’m not sure when that could really be but- "
“We’ll work something out,” leaning over, (Y/n) pressed a kiss to his cheek, “See ya around, hero.”
“Hah,” he covered his face as the girl went inside, barely gathering the sense to return a ‘goodnight’ to her with his brain still stuck on the way ‘hero’ rolled off her tongue.
Everything just sounded so much better coming from her and he didn’t care to find an explanation as to why.

So I’ve been kinda dancing around my original story idea for a little while, and I got this idea in my head of ‘what if I release chapter 1 and then get feedback without telling anyone what the story is about first so it’s more of a surprise?’ But honestly? I’m realizing since I already released a preview-of-a-preview for chapter 1, and it might be a little while until I finish chapter 1, plus I honestly kinda feel like I’d rather work on sketches of my character designs than write at the moment, I might as well go ahead and tell you guys. X’3
So! I watched a couple anime recently both centered around the premise of... monster girls! These being Monster Musume and Monster Girl Doctor, but then I noticed there’s also Interviews with Monster Girls, A Centaur’s Life, and the infamous Interspecies Reviewers, and I asked myself... Monster girls are pretty popular right now, yeah? But where’s all the monster boys?! And that’s how I got the idea! I re-watched some of my favorite anime based on Otome Games, Kamigami no Asobi and Uta no Prince Sama for inspiration as well, and a few ones I hadn’t seen before like Dance with Devils and Magic-kyun Renaissance for inspiration as well.
So now I’ve got my premise that I shared earlier: This is the story of Millie, a young woman down on her luck who happens to live in a world where monsters aren’t just real, but commonplace. She started working as a maid in a mansion-turned-art-school whose students are a group of very attractive monster boys. The twist is that these aren’t just any monster boys; they belong to various rare and exotic species with deadly reputations...
Note that character and place names are technically place-holders for now and may change if I come up with better ones. Now, I don’t wanna spoil anything story-wise, but I think I can introduce my setting and some of the characters that you’re gonna meet. The story is set in a modern setting, though it’s vague if it’s actually Earth or just some generic world similar to it, as I try to avoid referencing real-world places or events. This is a world where humans and monsters live together after a Great Interspecies War happened in the past, but tensions have mostly relaxed by the time the story takes place. The war could be thought of as the equivalent of our own World War One, one in which there was a truce decided after many years of stalemate fighting.
The city everything takes place in is tentatively named Dullahan, and was built directly after the war to commemorate peace between human and monster kind. It’s considered an artistic cultural center, and it’s got a lot of interesting entertainment places to go to, arcades, theaters, aquariums, etc, that the characters can have a lot of different shenanigans in. The other main setting is the Beaufort Academy of the Arts, which was actually a mansion that was converted into a small private school. This is where all the characters live, and our main character Millie works as a maid there.
Before I go into the characters, I should start with the various monster species. There are 12 species, divided into 2 groups: common monsters and exotic monsters. The common monsters are centaurs, harpies, lamias (snake people), kobolds (dog people), ogres, and merrows (mermaids). These species are all pretty standard, and will be mostly background characters and npcs. The main characters, and love interests for Millie, will be of the exotic variety: arachnes (spider people), sirens (deep-sea mermaids), mandrakes (plant people), dragons, manticores (with a liontaur body-type), and scyllas (octopus people).
So what differentiates a common monster from an exotic one? Well, while the Interspecies War was between humans and monsters in general, some monsters were already at least partially integrated into human society, and the rest followed soon after the war ended. These monsters were almost as common as humans, and either herbivorous or omnivorous, with the exception of the carnivorous lamias who prefer to eat eggs over anything else. On the other hand, the so-called ‘exotic’ species were not only much more rare, but they had a very different food preference... one which earned them the now derogatory nickname... man-eaters.
Naturally, most ‘man-eaters’ weren’t exactly welcomed into human --nor common monster-- society with open arms, not that most of them wanted to. For the most part, species as powerful and dangerous as them didn’t want to play nice with those they had once --and in some cases still do-- regard as prey, and so hid away into the furthest reaches of the world. Which of course makes them perfect material for all our leading men and Millie’s various love-interests!! Oh yes, while all of these monster boys are perfectly civilized --well, for the most part-- they still belong to species that many both human and monster alike continue to fear to this day. While they aren’t exactly fish out of water (well, except for the siren) there’s still plenty of awkward misunderstandings and interesting scenarios that can be played out.
So! Let’s have a quick run-down of the characters, keep in mind that none of these names are final and could change later on. First there’s Millie, a hardworking young woman who’s had a recent streak of bad luck. Through a misunderstanding she gets hired as a maid in a mansion-turned-art-school. She’s very sweet and tries her best to help others, but she’s not as innocent as she appears; she’ll understand your innuendos just fine, even if she doesn’t really say any herself! Next is Richard and Lara Beaufort, a husband and wife who run the school. Richard is rather laid-back, yet he’s also a master of all kinds of art, painting, sculpture, photography, dancing, singing, you name it! Lara is his arachne wife, a rather boisterous woman who owns a high-class fashion company. The secret to her clothing’s success?? Arachne silk, of course! The school was her idea, a way to help better integrate exotic species into society. Will her mission succeed? Only time can tell.
Richard and Lara have a son named Simon, our first love interest and a human-arachne hybrid who takes almost entirely after his mother in the looks-department (hybrids tend to look like one species or the other, rather than a mix of both). He’s a bit withdrawn due to dealing with bullying as a kid; most people --human and monster alike-- are afraid of his spider-like appearance, so he doesn’t get out much-- to the point his parents worry about him being a shut-in for life! He’s also a gamer boy, and has a secret soft side for gothic poetry, although he doesn’t want to join his parents’ art classes. He actually disapproves of his mother’s exotic species integration plan, as from what he’s experienced he feels it’s a waste of time.
Simon’s best friend and Millie’s second love interest is Louis, a mandrake who lives in the woods behind the manor. Louis is extremely shy and more than a bit lonely, even more so than Simon, and he doesn’t speak very often out of fear that the sound of his voice will hurt others around him. Mandrake screams can induce insanity or even kill those that hear them, hence his fear. Being part plant, Louis has mild shape-shifting abilities and is able to transform between child and young adult forms at will, although he’s actually the oldest of the group. He also isn’t a student at the art school, although he has an interest in floristry.
Now for our actual students! Forrest is a manticore, which in this world means he has a body similar to that of a centaur, but with the lower half of a lion instead of a horse, and a scorpion-like tail tipped with a deadly venomous stinger. Despite his species’s name literally meaning ‘man-eater’, Forrest is extremely friendly and cheerful, and is very sporty too. His passion is photography, and he also loves eating food-- any sort of meat dish is fine by him! He’s also a fan of fantasy tabletop roleplaying games, and will often make references comparing them to everyday life; he always plays the knight who saves the princess!
Anthony is a childhood ‘friend’ of Forrest’s, though he’s loathe to admit it. Highly intelligent and highly snobbish, Anthony fancies himself an intellectual-- and he’s not exactly wrong. Being a dragon, he likes to hoard things-- in his case, knowledge. Anthony loves to read, and is most often found in the library. His skill is in drawing and painting, and all his paintings’ invariably morose subject matter worry Millie. Still, this haughty dragon could definitely learn to loosen up a little, and be a little more kind; perhaps his stay at the academy --and his interactions with Millie-- will open his mind to appreciating the feelings of others. He does, at the very least, greatly respect Master Beaufort as a master of the arts.
The other two students are denizens of the sea, and have been friends for a very long time. Emil is a scylla, and like all scyllas he’s a little eccentric, and just can’t seem to keep his tentacles to himself! While Forrest is obsessed with eating, Emil’s true calling is cooking, and he loves making all kinds of dishes, especially anything seafood and/or foreign. Emil also is highly appreciative of women’s fashion, and absolutely adores everything to come from Madam Beaufort’s clothing brand-- so much so that he actually wears them himself! His pretty-boy looks and penchant for wearing women’s clothing actually has Millie mistake him for a girl at first, though he’s very much unafraid to show her his romantic side, or at least what he interprets as romantic...
Keeping Emil’s pervy antics in check is our sixth and final monster boy, Oswald! As a siren, Oswald spent most of his life in the sea, and still has a lot to learn about humanity. He’s a pretty cool guy but gets a bit embarrassed about his species’s troublesome past as the cause of many shipwrecks at sea, and would prefer to not discuss it. His passion is rock music, and his main instrument is the guitar. He also loves to sing, but refrains from doing so due to the hypnotic effect it has on other species. His lack of legs, tentacles, or a snake-like tail means that like other merrows and sirens he requires a wheelchair to move around on land, and often feels frustrated that he can’t show off how adept he is at traversing water. He’s also easy to embarrass and obsessed with not allowing anything to ‘ruin’ his manly image, including allowing Millie (a girl!) to help carry him around.
So there you have it, all my monster boys! I left out a few things, as those would be major spoilers, but those are my ideas for the characters for now! I’ll try to draw and post some sketches of their designs later. Hopefully I haven’t forgotten anything, but this won’t be the last time I talk about monster boys. Any questions or comments would be very much appreciated! Nsfw questions are allowed (all the boys wear pants for a reason, after all), though I’m currently not sure if this series will be 16+ or 18+, if you catch my meaning. Lemme know how interested you are in this story, or if you’re not interested please let me know that too!

Frayed Knots: Urban and Marus
Wanted to play around with the sweetest boys from WolfCry, Oliza’s suitors Urban and Marus. Dunno what, if anything, I’ll do with this, but enjoy what I’ve got :P
Marus turned back for the third time, then turned around again. He’d started back down to the southern hills almost immediately after landing, temper cooled by the short flight. It hadn’t done anything to clear his head; his thoughts still swirled like so many dancers’ scarves-- not helpful. He needed to be calm, to pull himself together. He felt like such a sham, a pretender to the great avian reserve. Whatever trick his forebears had used to keep their emotions to themselves, they hadn’t taught it to Marus. Still, that was no excuse for his behavior. He owed Urban an apology.
But he wasn’t sure he was in any state to give one.
Oliza was right. She needed--deserved--a suitor who could walk in both worlds. He hadn’t even made it through a single dance lesson without losing his cool.
He sighed. If he’d been a serpiente…
Well, punching people was still considered impolite, but maybe it wouldn’t have come to that. Maybe he’d have some outlet for this frustrations, some way to let it all out, rather than shove it all down--
He turned back again. He was entirely too worked up to go back among the serpeinte now. Skies above, they probably wouldn’t even let him back in, radiating such emotions as he was. It was so unfair that Urban could read his every upset, his every spark of temper, and fan it to a whirling flame. No avian’s reserve could stand up against that sort of assault.
No. Assault was what Marus had done, striking someone for simply teasing him. He was in the wrong. He needed to apologize.
And maybe step down.
Urban was a good match for Oliza. He could keep up with her, no matter which paths she tread. He was quick witted, keen eyed, and moved with a grace that matched her wyvern’s keenness. They were splendid together, and Urban’s charm and poise would surely win over even the most skeptical sparrow with time. He was the right choice.
Steeled, he set off again for the southern hills, not looking too hard at the niggling thought in the back of his mind that it would be faster to fly.
-
The party was soured for Urban after the fight. The carousel of dancers that came and went--his friends, his family--trying to cheer him up, to draw him back into the dance… He should go. There was no need to let his disquiet bring everyone else down.
Far from the press of everyone else’s happiness, his dampened mood settled into a distinctly bad one. He felt bad. Guilty. Selfish.
The nest was home because everyone worked to make it so. The burdens of one, shared by many, were light. But his heart felt too heavy to place on someone else’s shoulders. More to the point, it belonged there. He should be down, should feel badly for his behavior. He’d pushed Marus, knowing he was close to snapping. It wasn’t fair to use his serpiente advantages against the easily flustered avian. He’d told himself his intentions were to show Marus for who he really was, to reveal the avian’s so fragile reserve. When it had felt like a game, when he’d felt like he was winning… well, it was easy to convince himself of his rightness. Now…
His wandering had taken him to the marketplace. He hadn’t been going anywhere in particular, half so much as just “away”. Away from the nest, away from the press of so many happy emotions… With a little snort, he realized he’d been drawn to the quieter side of town, drawn to the peace of the reserved avians.
How fitting, he thought, sketching a few steps of dance before the statue of the wyvern in the center of the court in greeting, that I wind up here. In the empty, silent heart of the wyvern’s court.
In the serpiente capitol, in the heart of their kingdom, the markets never slept. It’s energy ebbed and flowed, of course, but it was never entirely empty. Food vendors could find profit well into the night from the dancers, and once they’d finally gone to bed, the farmers were just rising. There was always lifesblood flowing through the heart of the serpiente market.
The empty, cold marble of the wyvern marketplace… it was haunting.
It made Urban wonder, having seen the Keep in full Festival just earlier that day, how the avians kept the night. He knew their scholars could debate long into the night, their acts of didactic logic truly beautiful in their elegance, their artistic simplicity. An avian orator could convince a cobra their scales were viper white, if given enough time. Were they at it even now, spinning their words to a rapt avian audience, weaving myth and allegory to a spellbinding cadence?
It had been the beats of their words that had given Urban the hopes that Marus could be taught to dance, truth be told. There was an obvious rise and fall to it, a sense of musicality that was clearly cultivated and integral to avian oration. That sense of beat had shown him the quiet heart of avian culture, had made him wonder if that beat could be stirred, heightened. Sped up to something danceable.
It had been worth a shot.
Then he’d blown it.
His footfalls grew more determined as he crossed the market, ready to be done with its ghosts. It was too young to have ghosts. And Urban was too young to wrap his mistakes around himself like ancient regrets. He could simply apologize. This didn’t have to be some great thing that weighed him down for the rest of his days. He was proud, a tu’adir dancer. He would shed this weight, and his heart and footfalls would be light again.

I.t.a (Identity thief anon)
I thought I had replied (if I did and you just hadn't post it it's 1000% fine ahshs)
I love Elliott so much!! And his crush is so cute (but also looking at the bigger picture is hilarious that I killed his would be father in law lmao) also awfullest thing pixelberry did was making me choose if I wanted to be his legal guardian or if I wanted him to be emancipated only to not have to do any of them since, you know, our grandpa was still alive...
Also I thought about it way too much for a choice (with no actual impact) in a game ahshshshhs, emotionally wise I'd have wanted to be his legal guardian but I think it'd make more sense (legally) emancipation because he would still get government help but there wouldn't be a risk of someone taking him away of in case I wasn't a successful guardian, and he could apply for scholarships more easily while I worked or something lmao I was just excited in that part.
I know there are some books in which you can be poly but the only I remember was moty (mother of the year) which was a better than expected book (to be fair I didn't goof have expectations) and in that one I started to date the three love interests <3
How far along are you in endless summer, who are you romancing, what do you think of the classmates + lila and what do you think about the story in general 👀
u hadnt replied!!!! hi i missed you!!
i didnt know u could be polyam in moty! i might try it out then, i never gave it a shot cuz i hate the idea of having kids 😬 but anything for rep i guess
and YEAH I KNOW DIDNDIDNDO i love elliot so much and him and robbie are SO cute together but damn his in law straight up tried to kill us huh. like robbie deserves better than bobert or whatever his name is and im glad to have killed him but
also okay im in the middle of the second book idnfidndidndo around the part where the arachnids show up for jake. my opinions so far are kind of messy but uhhh
grace and raj are my faves, hands down. craig is a close second
i like almost everyone except for jake because hes just military propaganda in a trenchcoat with that annoying wahh im too conflicted to care about anyone white boy complex, and aleister because he was a dick to grace. idc how much he simps for her now she deserves better than him. and Quinn is kind of whatever. like her whole personality is uwu and its kind of annoying but i dont hate her or anything
the story is such a fucking mess?? udndidn i have NO CLUE whats going on 😩 if they manage to make everything make sense by the end ill be REALLY impressed cuz damn wtf is going on
im romancing sean!!!!!! what can i say, i have a type and that type is self sacrificial idiot. he has a heart of gold and he deserves better and aaaa 😭😭 u idiot man stop putting ur life in danger as the instinctual reaction BLEASE. i just want to wrap him in a blanket and make him take care of himself for once
i also like estela a lot but im not really that interested in romancing her ig? i enjoy our moments together but my feelings for her are more casual ig
i rlly want to like lila but i cannot stand her simping for discount tony stark my god. please lord just make it end
i rlly like everyone's dynamics???? its so nice to see how the group has been growing together more and more. i love them ❤️
i LOVE the vaanti. every last one of them. my beloveds. if they tried to kill us it's cuz theyre valid
varyyn and diego are the greatest couple this game has ever given me i am SO grateful for them. i just got to their first kiss and aaaaaa it was so sweet. upset at choices for not giving me art of their kiss when i had to watch aleister and grace's but 😩 its fine im fine. holding onto hope that ill get art of them eventually but i dont want to look it up and risk spoiling myself
i actually like craig and zahra as a couple a lot too which i didnt expect. i still dont fully understand what happened between them but i really hope they work it out :(
on that note i love zahra. anticapitalist queen. cant believe she fucking hacked wall street. id die for this woman even tho she wasted tiramisu
tbh i dont wanna get off the island. like what for? to go to college? when i could stay with the cool vaanti culture and be happy and not have to worry about capitalism and have sick ass tattoos? lets just kill tony stark and stay there besties
really like how they made the MC's past a mystery? like yeah we have absolutely zero past and backstory as per usual but this time it actually is an integral part of the story that we dont know that we were born in la huerta or basically anything about ourselves truly (even tong stinky didn't so like?). and it was nice to see that being a part of the story rather than just this weird feeling of detachment from the MC
the MC is so stupid and i love him
sean and craig are gay for each other. michelle and quinn are gay for each other. i diagnose everyone with gay
i literally dont have a single theory as to what the hell is going on like not one. and i have gotten almost every clue/idol/file but like i literally have no idea how to tie all of this together. this is such a mess didndkdndkdndidn im kind of excited to see what happens because ES seems to be so popular in the fandom i can only imagine the plot is gonna blow my mind, but im kind of afraid of being disappointed
and thats all ive got so far i think? udndidjd god

How are each of the Azulaang kids like? (bending, personality, etc)?
sorry I left this waiting for so long. I‘m really passionate about these characters and I wanna do this right but I simply don’t have the time for it right now. So here’s a short sum-up for all of them, and I hope to do a more detailed version at some point.
Ursa
the oldest, firebender, and quite skilled, but she hates using it and will only do so in absolute emergencies like when her family is in danger, a peaceful soul and much more low-energy than the rest of her family, likes reading, culture and politics, is about the same age as Izumi and her best friend and later advisor, she’s very interested in airbender culture, but more involved in fire nation politics, her cultural heritage gives her a unique perspective on most matters and she’s made it her life‘s mission to improve the fire nation by integrating that perspective into her politics, she’s a big advocate for the merging of cultural ideas and especially interested in air nomad and fire nation unity, she’s a lesbian (like kya in the original) but I haven’t thought about who she‘ll end up with yet, she loves playing pai sho and other board games and is very good at it, also yes her name means Azula has reconciled with her mother, but it took a lot of time and effort on both sides, naming her daughter after her was azula‘s way of showing how far they‘d come and Ursa (sr.) could not have been happier
Zuki
the second oldest, airbender, suki likes to joke she was named after her but everyone knows it was actually after zuko, a bending prodigy, she’s basically a mini-azula but with aang‘s playfulness, an absolute menace who constantly keeps her parents and everyone else on their toes, I first wrote her mainly as a way for Azula to reconcile with her own past and also to show how she might have turned out with a happier childhood and better parents, but she grows into her own character later, she really picks up the air-nomad way of life, focusing on the nomad aspect, and travels all around the world on her bison-dragon (yes, Appa falls in love with Azula’s dragon and a new species is born, it’s Avatar, their animals are all like that) she really is that cool wine aunt and Idk if she ever settles down, Aang was obviously delighted to have an airbender and fostered and supported those ideas in her, but Azula made sure he didn’t push her into anything she didn’t want and that he never gave any of his children preferential treatment (because she knows all too well how that feels) this is also how Ursa came to learn all about airbending culture and customs, while Zuki mostly dozed off during those lessons, her sister often made Zuki play board games against her, which she hated at first because she hated sitting still and her sister would always win, but her ambitious nature drove her to continue trying and eventually she got quite good at it
Kuzon
third oldest, firebender (or maybe non-bender) here’s where it gets a little scarce, he’s kind of based on Bumi in LOK but I really haven’t thought too much about him yet, he’s a lot like Zuko in the sense that he’s not as naturally talented as Zuki and struggles to learn new things, at the same time he’s more naturally kind and empathetic, he still loves playing with his older sister and chasing after her but he often falls and can’t keep up, he also likes spending time with his other sister Ursa who at first is kinda annoyed by it as she’s in her teens, but essentially does a full 180 later and becomes the most supportive big sister, often reading to him and encouraging him even when he fails at something, he especially loves his uncle zuko and looks up to him, as you can see he spends most of his early childhood looking up to other people and chasing after his sisters, so it comes as a real suprise (and maybe much needed confidence boost) to him when his younger brother is born and seems to idolize him, again I’m passionate about all these characters so it makes me sad to have so little on him but I hope to develop him more later, maybe he joins the united forces when he’s older
Tenzin
I loved Tenzin in LOK so I really didn’t wanna change much about him, he has a great bond with Ursa since they share the same interests, and this bond continues later in life when they often work together on political matters like organizing the air and fire unity festival (the day of the massacre is a day of mourning in both nations, the festival follows the day after to celebrate their newfound unity, it’s a little weird the first years but quickly becomes an established tradition, I like to imagine that the air and fire nation grow to be closer than ever in the future atla universe) he and Zuki kind of represent the two sides of airbending culture, she stands for freedom and the nomad way of life, he is more concerned with repopulating the temples and the spiritual side of things, as said before, as a child he idolizes and clings to his older brother and they stay great friends all their life
That’s it for now, it ended up being much more than I expected. If you wanna learn more, @resplendentgoldenwings wrote another post that lines up with my ideas quite well, and is honestly just a great and heartfelt read. Find it here:

and you can read two short fics featuring the kids on my AO3 (link in bio) with another one planned rn and hopefully coming soon

Entry 22: Leo the Edgelord
I’ve been clearing out the Paralogues between updates, which means that all of my units are overpowered now. I actually ran out of Master Seals to promote them. This isn’t a big deal, though, because you can just buy them at other people’s castles. Really, there’s little reason to upgrade your own castle besides convenience, because with a little time investment you can get everything you need from other players.
Support: Hinata/Kagero
C: Hinata sees Kagero sneaking around. When he questions her, she runs away.
B: Hinata spots a sketchbook Kagero is hiding behind her back. Kagero’s drawings are nightmarish and surreal. Hinata says he likes them and recommends Kagero share them. Kagero assumes he is lying to her.
A: Hinata explains that he genuinely likes Kagero’s weird art. It’s a nice moment. Him telling her she should smile more isn’t.
S: Kagero, thanks to Hinata’s encouragement, has begun drawing more. The two of them love each other now I guess.
Review: Overall, not bad. Hinata is a bit womanizing at times, but him liking Kagero’s Junji Ito ass art is fun.
Support: Mozu/Ryoma
C: Ryoma finds Mozu making soup, She explains that she’s cooking because it’s the only thing she’s good at. Ryoma offers to train her.
B: Ryoma and Mozu train together. Mozu is in awe over getting personal attention from the goddamn crown prince, but Ryoma explains that social standing isn’t important. How progressive for a guy who also believes he should have absolute power because he belongs to a special bloodline. Ryoma also says that Mozu could become stronger than him someday, which sounds a bit shaky; Mozu has good growths, but Ryoma is notoriously broken in this game.
A: Mozu makes Ryoma some soup and says she wants to open a restaurant after the war.
S: Mozu makes a giant pot of soup, Ryoma offers to help, and Mozu says she can’t ask a prince for help. Ryoma says that he likes Mozu for her passion, despite their class differences.
Review: Not bad, but lacking a real oomph of drama or comedy. I do like the idea of Mozu marrying Ryoma and becoming queen of Hoshido like a Disney princess.
Support: Hana/Saizo
C: Hana skips breakfast to train and begs Saizo for food. He explains that he’s an asshole and tells her to go away. Hana keeps bothering him and he gives her a steamed bun he keeps in his pocket, which Hana enjoys.
B: Hana bugs Saizo for another bun. He explains that his buns are gross, bland battle provisions and Hana is weird for liking them.
A: Hana asks Saizo how she can repay him for the food. Saizo tells her to stop annoying him.
S: Saizo checks in on Hana, worried that she’s hurt because she’s stopped pestering him. Saizo asks Hana out; she says yes, but only if he gives her more buns.
Review: Not bad. Two things about this are weird, though: Hana acts differently in this Support than any other I’ve read, and it never confirms which of them has weird taste buds.
Support: Azama/Sakura
C: Azama asks Sakura why she’s so nice and selfless, pointing that, as a princess, Sakura could get away with being a spoiled brat.
B: Azama continues to mock Sakura until she snaps, yells at him, and snaps her staff in two.
A: Sakura gives Azama the silent treatment, so Azama gives her an expensive amulet to apologize.
S: Azama reveals that the amulet was actually a proposal, and that he’s tricked Sakura into marrying him. Now, if this Support ended with sakura telling him to fuck off for trying to weasel his way to power, I would like it. But no it ends with the obligatory “I was actually mean because I love you” bullshit.
Review: This game keeps giving me things that make me like Azama then wasting them. If this entire Support Line was him manipulating Sakura into growing a backbone, as a trickster mentor, I would actually really like it. But no, it goes with the classic Azama is an asshole but not really but also yes really.
Support: Hayato/Orochi
C: Orochi lures Hayato into a competition about who owns the rarest herb.
B: The two of them continue competing, this time in making potions.
A: After going 100 rounds and making too many potions to store, Orochi and Hayato call it quits. The two of them reflect on how having a rival pushes them to be better.
S: The two of them confess to one another. They argue about who fell in love first.
Review: Overall, not a bad Support. The S-Rank especially features the two of them bouncing off each other really well.
Birthright Chapter 18: Leo
As the gang head towards the capital through a dark swamp called the Woods of the Forlorn, Felicia mourns the loss of Flora. Corrin says that they’re all there for her and then Felicia doesn’t speak for the rest of the chapter.
Corrin and Ryoma come across a bunch of mysterious blue flames and realize that they’re standing in a graveyard. Faceless spawn in above the graves, because I guess they’re zombies. Ryoma realizes that the faceless are being controlled by someone and Leo walks out of a cloud of purple smoke. In an anime cutscene that is actually pretty cool, he says that the punishment for traitors is death. Leo, in a line that is both edgy and pretty cool, explains that he’s going to kill Corrin in a graveyard because the sister he loved is already dead.
Takumi threatens Leo, then almost faints because the poison swamp he’s standing in is poisonous. Shortly after, the rest of the royals begin to get sink. Corrin is immune to the effects of the bog, because she grew up in Nohr. In the actual map, Felicia, Jaob, Silas, and Scarlet are also immune to the bog, which is a nice bit of gameplay integration.
Leo whines about how he hates Corrin because Xander and Camilla loved her more than him, immediately destroying any coolness he built up. Leo is accompanied by his two retainers: a sadistic adventurer named Niles and Owain from Fire Emblem Awakening. If you fight Leo with Corrin, she asks if he really always hated her, because she loves him. He responds that there’s no point in answering her.
After Leo is defeated, Corrin refuses to kill him. Leo explains that if Nohr surrenders, the Hoshidans will destroy their culture and kill their families. Except, they won’t, because this is a game that tries to be morally complex but still has one side be cartoonishly evil and the other be annoyingly good. Leo tells Corrin that the Hoshidans will kill her the moment it benefits them, and again, no, no they will not.
Leo tells Corrin that she should execute him before he attacks her with magic and Corrin points out he could have done that at any time, meaning that he’s still a good person deep down. Leo tells Corrin to shut up. Corrin says that they’re still family and that she loves Leo.
Leo admits that he never hated Corrin. Corrin asks him to join her in ending the war and Leo says no. He justifies it by saying that he doesn’t want to fight Xander and Camilla, but also he attacked us five minutes ago which is a bit hypocritical. Azura gives Leo a weird crystal to help clarify his thoughts.
Leo asks if he and Azura are related and she says no, because she’s mysterious. Leo asks if she’s from Nohr and she keeps being mysterious.
Leo warns that Xander has grown far stronger and that the only way for Corrin to defeat him is to visit a nation called Notre Sagesse. There lives a man named the Rainbow Sage, who helped Xander reach incredible power. Because Notre Sagesse is a long way away, Leo gives us a convenient warp tome that he has for some reason.
