Some thoughts about the end of Jedi Survivor
Adding a cut because it’s long and obviously spoilers
I know the end of this game centered around Cal “embracing the darkness” but I don’t think he’ll fall to it in a third game. He’s not going to become a sith. It would actually be rather disrespectful of his character development so far and to Cere. In both games Cal has repeatedly seen what happens to those people who let the dark side take over. They forget themselves. They lose everything.
“This pain is yours. But it doesn’t define you, and you must not let it consume you.”
Merrin tells this to Kata, but it shows Cal while she’s saying it. This betrayal from Bode, the loss of his master again. It’s his pain, but if I know anything about Cal it’s that he’s a fighter. He’s going to fight through the pain. It’s not going to consume him. Plus he has Merrin and Greez and BD to help guide him back when it gets too hard to navigate the darkness on his own.
Cere’s force ghost tells Cal to “Guide her (Kata) through the darkness” Through it. They can’t avoid it but they also can’t get lost in it. She’s going to need help and so will Cal, but they have support.
Even Yoda knew of the power of the dark side he just didn’t let it control him.
Yes Cal can struggle with it, and he probably will in the third game, everyone struggles with darkness at times, but Cere taught him to overcome those feelings. He helped her overcome it in the first game and he connects to Cere via the force at the end of this game. Cal is a survivor, he’s not going to succumb to the dark side. His friends won’t let that happen. They have his back.
Bode had no one but himself. His daughter was too young to understand what was happening to her father. She lost her mother just as he lost his wife because of the Empire. At the end of the game on Tanalor Bode isn’t even with Kata. Bode might have been a survivor too, but he was alone. Cut off from his daughter and the light as he betrayed his former allies. The Mantis crew stands together. They are not alone.
At the end of the day I’m just saying Cal isn’t going to turn Evil and I certainly don’t think he’ll have to die or need to be killed off. (He’s the main character in a video game where the formula has been main story and then a ton of side quests for after I mean.. come on) Star Wars is about hope and if Cal loses himself completely then that hope is gone. It just doesn’t make sense for his character. Especially when he already worries he’ll become like the people he fights. That he’ll lose himself. Merrin said it best. Cal is stubborn but ambition doesn’t drive him. He genuinely cares about the fate of the galaxy and his friends, but he knows loss and pain are a part of life too. He is a true jedi at his core and in his heart. But most importantly he’s not facing the darkness alone.
I don’t even know if this makes sense, but this game gave me so many feelings and trying to articulate them is hard. So anyways there’s my two cents for now.

it's a pet peeve of mine when ppl frame Andrew as hating Aaron and being needlessly cruel to him... bc while yes, their relationship is fractured and strained, Andrew genuinely cares about his brother and wants the best for him, he just doesn't know how to show that in a normal way.
like he might not know how to express it in a healthy manner but Andrew LOVES Aaron, like he truly just wants Aaron to be healthy and safe. It's like, his whole Thing. Aaron is one of the most important people in his life. Andrew wants him around. He'd do anything to protect him.
I guarantee Andrew wants to be emotionally close to Aaron too, he just doesn't have the tools to do that and the thought of letting someone in terrifies him. He also has no concept of what a healthy sibling relationship looks like, so he has no frame of reference to work from.

So I tried to break up with Wyll and refuse his romantic dance and ask him about the tadpole, but why is the game SO CRUEL WITH ASTARION?
Like, if you want him to use the astral tadpole he straight up says no, So you can have a wisdom or intimidation check (if you fail them he is going to break up with you and be so mad).
But basically the wisdom check is trying to use one of his old memories (the worst possible memory) against him to remind him he is too weak, and he needs power if he wants to stay safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The intimidation is literally using his self hatred against him. If you play with the vampire lord ending you can break up with him and tell him you preferred him as he was, and he is shocked because he was "pathetic"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The thing is, to soften him/get the good ending (chosen by him without persuation checks) I think you need him to accept that he is who he is, and he is okay as he is. Coincidentially, trying to talk him out of the Cazador ritual is so insightful, both here in the video (this is before you get attacked by the other spawns) and later (after you get attacked) you have some options/dialogues about how he is so different now, he is not like "them"/his old pathetic self anymore.
This is the other post-attack dialogue:

When I played friendship Astarion, the most interesting part post ritual was the dev literally spells it out:

In the crypt you also find a book about Cazador's master and the rules he made for Cazador, and the abuse Cazador suffered before killing his master in revenge.
And of course:

thinking of the damsel route where the princess turns into an anime girl. thinking about how the mere act of questioning her autonomy made her lose it. because viewing her as brainless made her so. because our perceptions shape who she is, and by not believing her simple want we are not believing her existence as an original person. thinking about how she's a person until we decide she's not being "person enough"

Back to the regular programming. Have a wip! Still working on that thing. Things still progress as they were - sometimes I sit and draw a lot in one go, then I have to put it off for many weeks at a time; or I simply just don't have that much energy/focus to be creative - just life being life. But I'm forging ahead. With the help of my friend, all typos or grammar mistakes are now fixed, too, so that's one thing I thankfully don't have to think about anymore. Now I "just" need to keep and keep and keep on drawing, until it's all finished. Wish me luck.

Okay, it's like 10pm on a work night and I haven't had any coffee today so my thoughts are a little scrambled BUT. I WAS THINKING.
(About In Stars and Time of course I'm always thinking about that game)
A couple of years ago, at the height of Steddie -my sister was big into it and recced me some fics okay- I read this fic about Steve dealing with time loops ("The one in which a time loop is fucking exhausting" by badpancake) and there was this specific detail about the epilogue that stuck with me.
It was the idea that, once the time loops were done and over with, people would slowly start to remember bits and pieces of what happened in earlier loops. After being fractured for so long across dozens of timelines and experiences and outcomes, time was finally healing, and broken shards of lost memories would find their way back into people's minds.
And that got me thinking about a post-game what-if scenario where the same happens to the gang as they travel through Vaugarde.
Like they still don't remember everything -just bits and pieces. Experiences so emotionally charged that they found a way to cross the sands of time and reach them again.
The question is, what would those memories be? The first answer that comes to mind is some of Siffrin's deaths, of course. I can't imagine watching your friend get pancake-d by a boulder would be pleasant, nor witnessing them turning their own dagger to themselves. Or offering him a slice of your favorite snack only for him to go into anaphylactic shock in front of your very eyes, for that matter!
But there would be other instances too, wouldn't they? Death is not the only thing that shook them to their core. What about their first death to the King? Or Bonnie's fate at the end of Act 3? What about basking in the blissful feeling of victory against the tormentor of your land only to turn to look at your friend and know something is very, very wrong?
What about fighting through the House with a party of 4 instead of 5, bloodied, confused, staring in the face of the King knowing you're about to die and wondering why your friend left you all when you needed them most?
I honestly have no idea where I'm going with this, but I've been rotating this concept in my head since this morning and thought I'd get it out on here so y'all can suffer with me tehee

I’m back with yet another fix-it for TBOSAS! A very simple premise this time:
The district kids aren’t fed in the zoo, and the mentors don’t realize they’re their tributes’ only source of… everything. So despite their best efforts the kids’ performances don’t give them enough to feed everyone (they share what they can, because they’re all kids in the same boat who don’t want anyone to die). They look skeletal by the time the interviews come around, and their appearances remind everyone of the siege from the dark days. Especially the parents, who now see their own kids in these tributes, and it gets a ball rolling where capitolites realize they’re literally doing exactly what they demonize the districts for doing. Except they’re arguably worse because the war is over. They’ve won, there are no ends that may justify these “means”, the war’s already over. The capitol has no reason to do this outside of riding on their power trip to torment those they see as beneath them.
Only a few people are fired up enough to start protesting immediately, but these people encourage and convince others to join in until their numbers are so high not complying would pretty much destroy any chances of re-election for the president. If this is the movieverse, then possibly the president himself is swayed because he starts thinking about what if it was Felix who was standing on that stage, severely malnourished and clearly only conscious through sheer power of will, eyes hopeless and scared and desperate.
Idk I like the idea of complicated capitol people. They’re not monsters, propaganda and “us vs them” is just a hell of a drug. We see it in real life too, where being threatened by (and possibly losing loved ones to) the “other side” makes it easy to write them off as evil, so they deserve what’s being done to them. My main idea here is that the capitol citizens were particularly mad about the innocents who suffered, especially the kids. There’s a righteous fury, which is why seeing the tributes on stage in such a disheveled, dirty, famished state is so hard-hitting. Because the image that made the games “justifiable” is now thrown right in their face in the form of the same people they hold so much disdain for. It’s a wakeup call that they are at best no better than those they despise.
