I'm just SAYING that Our Flag Means Death Merribella AU basically writes itself because you have:
Isabela the Legend of the High Seas, a pirate captain to be feared and adored
Merrill, the smart yet sometimes foolish captain who's left home because she felt she had to and set out on her own
Varric as Spanish Jackie who runs the Hanged Man, Bran as the annoying bartender
Fenris as the Jim like character who wants revenge and would do anything to get it
Hawke as some kind of mix between Oluwande and Lucius who is trying to reign in Fenris the killing machine but also is just openly sassy and V Gay and also they can be non binary as a treat (maybe they have an arch like Jim's where they wear a fake beard to start with)
Aveline as a sort of Izzy Hands type character who is followed by Sebastian - both of whom think that Merrill will get them killed, is foolish and is bad for Isabela
Merrill who immediately thinks Isabela is the coolest person In The World
Isabela who is FACINATED by Merrill and her boat and her strange ways and how kind she is even while trying to be a pirate
Idk man I just think it could Work

Lujo’s Log #1
It has been several months since I last put quill to parchment, indeed it is unlikely I would be doing so now were it not for coming across this blank book lying by roadside.  I admit I was confused when I first opened the book as I had not thought of prebinding writings personal or commercial.  It seemed an odd conceit that whoever put the book together in the first place would know how many words I intend to put in it.  Still I have since been informed that most journals are like this, both to keep the pages together and to protect them during travels.  As my life has finally reached a point where my dayly activities consist of more than "Woke up, ate, walked, ate, walked, ate, slept.", it seemed a good idea to get back in the habit of writing, predominantly to prevent my skills from atrophing but also because there is a very real chance I might die in the near future, so I at least wish to leave more behind to answer what questions may arise than my Master did.
Today marked the day I finally arrived in the, for lack of a better term, town of Booty Bay.  I had been on the road for some time with intent to reach this place with intent on finding a commission out on the seas and oceans.  Upon arriving at a tavern I honestly can't recall the name of I found I was in time for a local event where all the privateers and pirates attempt to find more crew.  There were three captains that had hung up their colors for all to see and were asking for any and all to come forward if they had interest.  It seemed prudent to hang back for a trifle as on the roads I found many less familiar with my race who reacted...lets say poorly to my size "looming" over them.  The first captain was a blood elf who after only a few interactions I knew was not the right choice.  He was speciesist (no idea if that is an actual word, but I'm sure the definition would be clear regardless) enough to turn down any night elf, and while I have not had much interactions with the race, writing off someone based solely on ancient animosities indicated that meritocratic advancement was at least unlikely.  The second was a human.  I didn't really have much time to observe him enough to really make a decision, for that is when the third and final captain decided to say his piece.
Captain Coppershot is a goblin, small and excitable, but strangely willing to put true faith in others with little to no time getting to know them.  In these trying times I have come across few who expect loyalty and are also willing to give it freely of people they've known for perhaps a handful of hours.  The Captain proclaimed to the whole of the bar that he had a score that was destined to make him and his rich, and that any who were interested should step forward now.  The fact that the other two captains put little stock and this, and of a crowded tavern he got precisely five people willing to take him up on the offer makes me wonder as to what history he has with this region.  Still myself, an orc, two night elves, and a draenai took him up on his offer to follow him to his room and hear him out.  After what generously could be referred to as jokes the Captain quickly became all business.  He had heard of a quintet of pieces of a supposedly legendary sword in possession of a lush with far to much money on his hands.  We were to assume the identity of a buyer and his bodyguards/assistants to get close, find the pieces, and abscond with them.  The buyer we were to immitate was mostly unknown to us other than a name.  Shadowstorm or Stormshadow or something like it, I was facinated that the name spoke so clearly of trying with all ones might to sound impressive and dark that the Captain invented a new term to describe it edgelord.  Merely inventing the word wasn't what was so captivating however, it was the fact that all present in the room, without any prompting or questions, both understood the term and all the conotations behind it.  Such is the sad desperation of the mystery buyer.  While it took a brief time to hash out the details of expected payment, and also deal with an eavesdropper likely from one of the two other captains in a manner that could be described as no less than violently, we set out on the road with the Captain and traveled for perhaps an hour or so to a manor that stood in the midst of the jungle.  The Captain only accompanied us to the point where we would have to worry about guards or patrols and instructed us to deal with the remainder of the job as we saw fit before joining him on his ship.
Once the Captain absconded we were quick to discard his original outline of a plan, none of us really came off as great actors or deceivers by any of our estemations, and made our way up to the treeline near the manor.  We saw a group of Alliance soldiers in the company of a horse and cart and assumed that the buyer was likely early.  As none of us saw much challenge in the rather green squad before us we set to work on them quickly.  Of all the ways I can think of to die, being riddled by a handful of projectiles and concussive force isn't the worst way to go, though by the expression of their commanders face I don't think I would recommend it.  Seeing their leader perish half the soldiers promptly gave up on attempting to fight us, and after the remainder died in a what I can only call horrible fashion, they surrendered outright with no talk of terms.  Moving to the house we discovered that two more guards and the "lord" of the manor were fearfully awaiting us after witnessing the butchering we had commited.  While the "lord" was reticent to agree to hand over his property to us on general principle, the two guards saw reason and stood aside for us to do as we wished.  A large crate dominated the center of the room and we assumed it must hold the pieces of the artifact we were looking for.  We were mistaken, instead their was a chunk of azurite large enough to give any of us difficulty in moving alone.  We did still procure the original items we had been sent for after one of the night elves, who I am going to refer to as Spooky from this point forward, chose to flex at the now former owner.  I have no idea why her flexing her muscles seems so objectively terrifying, but I am just going to be glad of the fact that it is unlikely I will ever have to be on the receiving end of it.
After a brief incident where I found out the artifact pieces reacted extremely poorly to being handled with out proper gear, we loaded up the horse and cart, gave the remaining living guards a means of theoretically escaping their bonds before the jungle came for them, and made our way back to Booty Bay.  We were rather...surprised to find that not only does the Captain have a ship, it is brand new and seemed to be of a truely excellent quality.  After giving him a brief on what we had acomplished he chose to reveal his main goal in all this, we are going to go looking for azurite on the high seas and become wealthy beyond comprehension.  While his approach to this doesn't seem to have a great deal of forthought, he did bring up a decent idea as to looking around rather deserted islands off the coast where it is possible that no one had checked to see if any was to be found there.  Upon seeing the size of the chunk of azurite we procured he became more serious than I have ever seen him to date.  Asking only if we thought we needed to leave right now before someone came looking for it, he accepted our advice that we should take a sack of gold and hire enough vaguely capable crew as quickly as we could.
I believe I will stop this entry here.  I could use some sleep and my hand is beginning to cramp.  Seems my stamina for transcribing has lulled a touch.
