I still need to think about how I want to approach Tumblr. I wanna talk about my deconversion from Christianity and my mental health struggles like I do on Twitter, and if I did focus on just that side of me I could probably grow a larger audience. On the other hand I don't want to realize one day that that's all I have in common with any of the friends I might make on here. I feel like I should learn from my experience using Twitter and try to integrate all parts of myself into one place here so that maybe I'll find the small niche of people who I can vibe with about multiple things. That could give me a smaller reach tho as fewer people might care what I have to say.

alright. gotta say this. I am super creeped out by the tng episode ship in a bottle. which I realize is incredibly funny to say considering the two episodes right before it. but this post is not about them.

so we get moriarty, right, a holodeck character from acd's stories who gained consciousness and wants to be free. picard knows this and acknowledges it. granted he only calls him a new life-form when he thinks moriarty managed to leave the holodeck, but him having this ability, having a physical body, shouldn't really matter; his consciousness, self-awareness is still undeniable. he is a life-form in a way the enterprise crew recognizes.

three or so episodes prior data realized lil robots used as tools have self-awareness, enough of it to have self-preservation. picard commands the robots stop being used during a super important project until they're able to determine if they really are conscious. the robots are recognized as a new life-form eventually and presumably are not to be put to work again, iirc.

and then they have moriarty. who passionately argues for his freedom. and yeah, I'm not saying he's like, good, he does literally take the enterprise hostage (but also they did kinda. leave him in a holodeck for four years. and he was apparently aware of the passage of time. i'm sorry but 'oh yikes sorry we didn't know' seems kinda funny here.) in the end they trick him and trap him in a simulation that he believes is real - which, fair, it was necessary to secure the safety of the ship. but then. then they stand around and joke about it, picard says how moriarty & another being like him are going to live their lives in this simulation unaware they've never really left the program, and that's it. they leave both of them there. problem solved. two apparent persons who desperately wanted freedom are forever trapped instead, made to believe their wish was granted. this is to be the fate of the new life-forms, that picard talks so much about discovering and how it's the enterprise's main mission (it is also literally in the epic opening of the show). moriarty should face consequences for what he's done, but with all rights and protections that are ensured for any other sentient being. where's the curiosity towards him?? concern for his self-determination??? IT'S STAR TREK I'M ALLOWED TO OVERTHINK THIS ULTIMATELY SILLY EPISODE.

I'm stubbornly headcanoning that picard was 100% truthful (and why wouldn't he be) when he said the starfleet scientists were working on figuring moriarty's situation out, and that they'll continue to do so. but even so trapping him like this in an elaborate fantasy that he so desperately wanted to escape is just creepy!! and an antithesis to the show's repeatedly established ethics!

anyway, holodeck is evil.

i still can't believe yesterday night i'm so,,, king gizzard were incredible they were absolutely everything, their performance was unlike any other i've seen, i had yet to see a band keep a mosh going consecutively no matter the song. and not only that but they let me enjoy their entire show from backstage !!! the perspective was fucking insane (also dripping tap as the last track... sheesh). n the best was yet to come cause after the gig we just started talking, got pictures, cavs gifted me his drumsticks i </3 they are everything i'm so so happy they're playing like 5 more times in town this week. what a bunch of fantastic guys :) <3 anyways here's some footage from the night !

Hello! I'm relatively new to Tumblr, and I've never published anything before because I'm quite anxious. However, I've noticed the concern from various creators about the low interaction rates on the platform. This is my small attempt to let them know they're loved. If you're reading this and you feel represented, please start reblogging your favorite things, it truly helps.

was browsing UKO (i know. i know) out of boredom and i'm personally in love with the idea that it's somehow Bad to say you don't like a song without listening to it fully, eg. only after 30 seconds. "you're missing out on so many banger bridges" "if you can't spare 2-3 minutes i don't think your opinion is worth listening to" you'd think it's music journalists scoffing at someone who wants to submit album reviews with this mindset, and not redditors talking about sillay kpop songs

SAG officially considers cosplays of current/past media as crossing the picket line as it can be seen as supporting the studios they're currently striking against.

EDIT 2 (first edit in tags): the tweet in the OP has been deleted, so I'll be shutting down reblogs on this post just so people don't take the link as a solid source when it no longer exists. For context, the original link was from a content creator who'd emailed SAG-AFTRA about guidance surrounding promos, contracts, and influencers. The response from SAG-Aftra likely wasn't 100% detailed because things were still being figured out. As for more detailed questions such as what counts as an influencer and other really specific questions I've seen in the tags, that's not something I know. Maybe emailing SAG-AFTRA themselves will help, although I can't be sure.

If the original email or the FAQ were confusing to you, it's likely that it's because both were phrased in a way that would be understandable to people who'd be likely to scab, ie influencers under specific circumstances. It's not really geared toward the lay person (which is what the FAQ will make clear by their frequent use of "influencer").

Again, the notes (and frankly the original link itself) have some that this is about influencers specifically. I missed that keyword in the OP (typo). I need people to stop acting like I'm willfully fearmongering and spreading misinformation. I read the full thread. I read the entire FAQ. It's on you if you do neither. At the time of my reading the thread, the FAQ either hadn't been released yet or had just come out. I also need people to stop bringing up Neil Gaiman's Tumblr post when SAG-AFTRA has their own Official FAQ on their strike site.

For the FAQ, it's here. It's about influencers, both union and non-union. Iirc the non-union FAQ has some ways to help that non-influencers can also engage in, like using a hashtag or generally raising awareness.
