Reasons Why I want to nominate Claude's parents as the worst parents of the Fódlan characters
I know, I know, it's a pretty high bar (low bar?), considering the other contenders, especially since only one has a name and neither are seen in either Three Houses or Three Hopes.
However, I would not jump into this discussion without evidence.
Spoilers beyond the cut.
In Three Houses, during his B Support with Hilda, he talks about his parents, particularly how they would raise/punish him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In case you missed it, he discusses being dragged along behind a horse by his father.
His mother would laugh as it happened.
I know he rationalizes it as having been a brat as a kid, but there is absolutely nothing he could have done that would have justified BEING DRAWN, which was part of one of the most inhumane execution methods of the medieval ages and is only associated with torture historically.
Edit to add: Claude states that there is a trick to make the horse punishment less severe than it sounds. He doesn't state if he learned the trick himself after being drawn a few times, if he was taught the trick by an older sibling who went through the same thing, or another person. We also are given no context for how the punishment was carried out, whether it was on a soft grassy surface with no rocks, or a hard, rocky surface, or the duration of the dragging. Claude's first statement does imply that it happened multiple times ("He used to" instead of "one time he"). We do not know if Claude sustained serious injuries, but any combination of scrapes/bruises/rope burn are pretty much guaranteed simply by the nature of the action, and that alone is worse physical injury intentionally inflicted on a child in the game by any parent on more than one occasion, that I am aware of.
And as if that were not bad enough, we get this little gem in Three Hopes:
Tumblr media
Where Nader says that Khalid (aka Claude) was the favorite son of the king.
The favorite.
Let that sink in.
Favorites are generally given preferential treatment by the parents. Look at how Claude was treated again, and now look to his other siblings, like Shahid, who fights and dies trying to earn recognition from his father and to be acknowledged as a good heir to the throne. And Claude has more siblings.
I rest my case.
I will grant Count Varley and Margrave Gautier second and third place in the #1 Worst Father category, but King of Almyra tops the scale in a way that is almost impossible to imagine.
Patricia (Edelgard's mother and Dimitri's Step-Mother) may or may not beat Tiana (Claude's mother) for #1 Worst Mother, and Patricia may take overall #1 Worst Parent from King Almyra, depending on her ambiguous and not yet completely disclosed involvement with TWSiTD, the Tragedy, and what happened to Edelgard/Edelgard's siblings, but otherwise, I feel pretty safe with my nomination.
Edit for clarification: I would have loved to have actually met Tiana or the King of Almyra in either game. Most of the parents in the game are presented as good, but flawed, people. They just also happen to be terrible parents. Claude's parents could be great people, beloved rulers, and well-respected in Almyra. Despite my feelings on the matter, Claude seems to like his parents. That doesn’t mean they were good parents. In fact, I still believe they are the worst parents outside of actual villainous parents. Also, because this entry is a game with more fan engagement than what I usually discuss, I feel the need note that I'm not commenting on their parenting in relation to Almyra or Almyra's culture. I'm just commenting on how objectively terrible it is to drag a child along the ground behind a horse, and to laugh at that child in the process. I'll stand by that opinion.

Flayn's Instruction
Read it here on ao3!
A grin spreads across Flayn’s lips as she watches the students file in. They seem tired; midterm season was particularly gruesome this year, leaving even Flayn exhausted to her core. But it’s a new day, and with a new day, it means she can share more stories with the teenagers that take their places, their tired eyes glancing between their professor sitting on her desk and their study material. She watches as the last of them file in, the bell ringing as the doors of other classrooms shut. It’s going to be an interesting period.
Flayn hops down from her desk, bringing her hands together and redirecting the attention on her. Phones are dropped to the bottom of bags and pencil cases; all eyes are on her. She’s ready to put on a show, a fun class that might cheer up the sleepy eyes before her.
“So today we’re going to be talking more about the Great Fódlan War! Who can tell me what it’s about, in broad terms?”
Glances are exchanged amongst the students before a few shy hands come up. Flayn is happy to call upon her students, encouraging them as they give her bits of the right answer.
“Correct! It’s when the Empire lead a rebellion against the Church of Seiros! Anything else?”
A few more bits of information are handed to her: Edelgard von Hresvelg was the leader of the Empire rebellion, the victors were the army lead by Claude von Riegan, the first ruler of Fódlan was Byleth Eisner. The answers come more confidently as Flayn shows her excitement for every raised hand; it’s how she likes to teach, reinforcing her students’ participation. And knowing that they show even the slightest of interest in her class, well, what more could she ask for?
“Alright, so now that we refreshed ourselves on the basic of this war, we’re going to talk a bit more about the victors of the war: King Claude and Quen Byleth. And while I could go on and on about how they gained the high grounds against Empress Edelgard and King Dimitri, I think you’re all a little too tired for that this morning.” A smile pulls at the corners of Flayn’s mouth as she pushes herself back up onto her desk. “Who wants to hear about the relationship that united Claude and Byleth instead? It won’t be on your exam, but it’s a great fun fact if ever you want to tell someone a nice little anecdote from the past.”
There’s little that brings Flayn as much joy as watching the eyes of her students turn to sparkles. She loves watching the heads go up before being put back down on the desks, attentive ears turned to her. What more can a professor ask for?
“In that case, how about I start with the betrothal?” Grins appear like the first spring daisies. “In that case, we go back a thousand years, back to 1187, a few months after the war has ended…”
---
Byleth’s chest heaves as she watches the last of the enemies fall. It’s over. It’s finally over. Or at least, it’s over for now. For now, there will be a semblance of peace. For now, there is no one else that opposes Byleth’s reign. Which means…
Her smile grows as she watches the horizon. He’s right there. He’s so close. Byleth can almost feel him, his touch, his loving embrace. He’s right there, his wyvern flipping in the sky against the pinks and the purples and the oranges of the setting sun. He’s right there, so beautiful. He’s right there, finally back, just as he had promised.
Relief washes over Byleth as the shadow grows larger, the white wyvern making its way straight to her. She never thought she’d be this happy to see the giant beast, though saying her excitement was for it alone would be a lie. What truly has Byleth’s head reeling is the prospect of finally seeing him, the one who had promised to be back all those months ago. Claude, he’s finally back.
He’s gorgeous as he stumbles off of his mount. His smile, it reaches his eyes, something it didn’t use to do. And his eyes, so green, so beautiful, they crease at the corner from the happiness. And his lips, well… They find their way home in a kiss that Byleth is more than happy to return.
She never had envisioned their reunion to go like this. She had always thought he would walk back into the monastery one day, happy to announce that his work was done. It had always been a peaceful reunion in Byleth’s mind; it had never crossed her mind that it would come with more bloodshed. And yet, this feels perfect for them. The cuts and scrapes against her body still ache, and the blood that stains her skin feels crusty, but it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter because Claude is back. It doesn’t matter because Claude is here, kissing her under the sunset. Nothing matters; only Claude matters.
“Took you long enough.”
He smiles into yet another kiss, this one slower and more careful than the last three. This one, it tastes like love and victory. This one, it tastes exactly the way Byleth remembers their kisses to be. This one, it tastes the way every kiss from Claude should; it tastes like forever.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t become the king of Almyra any sooner. I’ll be faster next time it happens.”
A hand flies up to cover the snort that escapes Byleth. Her face falls against Claude’s chest as she openly laughs, something that has never happened before. And as Claude’s arms wrap around her, she feels safer than she ever has. Claude, how she missed his presence.
“Teach?”
Byleth hums, not bothering to lift her head away from Claude. She’s too comfortable there. He’s warm and safe; he’s finally home. And as his fingers cup her cheek, Byleth can’t help lean her weight into him. How is she supposed to leave the here and now? How is she supposed to risk losing him all over again? Though she knows this isn’t a dream, she can’t risk it. She can’t risk opening her eyes and watching him leave once more.
The kiss to her cheek is what it takes for Byleth’s eyes to flutter open. And they open to green; Claude isn’t gone, disappearing with the setting sun. He’s there, for real. He’s there, for her. He’s there, and by the sounds of it, all their friends are there too.
A content smile pulls at the corners of Byleth’s lips as she turns to the crowd that has started to form. First, it’s Hilda and her cheers. She screams louder than Byleth’s ever heard her scream as she jumps up and down. Then there’s Lorenz and his gasps. He seems surprised, but he soon eases himself into a content smile and a congratulatory nod. And then there’s Raphael and Leonie, both cheering, one shouting congratulations, the other screaming near obscenities. Not far off, there’s Lysithea, her mouth agape. She’s pointing at both Claude and Byleth, yet no words manage to leave her lips. And finally, there’s Marianne and Ignatz, both silently smiling at the pair. Everyone is there; the Golden Deer are finally back together.
“Claude! Why didn’t you tell me you and the professor were an item? I thought we were closer than that!”
Hilda grins as she dramatically leans against Lorenz, looking ready to faint. Of course, he catches her, though not without a bit of reticence. Lorenz, he’s never been good with Hilda’s antics. He’s always been too polite to play along with her. And yet, as the years go on, he seems to be more exasperated than uncomfortable with the girl. Perhaps that’s what happens when a group of people spend so much time with one another.
Claude grins at the rest of the group, but not without pressing another kiss to Byleth’s cheek. He wants to drive home that she’s his and that nothing can keep him away from her any longer. Or maybe he likes the attention, from Hilda’s squeals to Lysithea’s gags to Lorenz’s groans. Maybe he likes that everyone is back together, though this time in far less threatening circumstances.
“You’re so gross, Claude! Literally no one wants to see you doing,” Lysithea gestures in his and Byleth’s direction, “that. Like get a room or whatever.”
“I mean if—”
Byleth couldn’t help the smile that grows at the corners of her mouth as she smooths out her coat sleeve, which seemed to have magically smacked Claude in the face. And he laughs along; he always laughs along, but this time, his laughter is genuine. This time, Byleth knows he’s happy.
“Okay, okay, I guess I should make this official in front of everyone.”
Byleth’s head turns as Claude takes her hand in his. His smile, it’s soft, and it’s gentle. His eyes, they sparkle just as they did all those months ago, though this time, tears don’t well up at the corners of either of their eyes. This time, they’re not placed in a dire situation, one where even the happiest of outcomes left them in tears. This time, it’s real happiness.
She doesn’t resist as Claude turns her towards him. Byleth lets him take the lead on this; she needs a break from being the leader. And by the way he’s looking at her, she knows what comes next.
“Byleth Eisner, my Love who has already said yes to me all those months ago, my Love who has provided us with a new peaceful, happy world, will you do me the honor of being my queen and marrying me?”
Clapping and cheering echoes in Byleth’s ears as she pulls Claude in for a kiss. Of course she accepts; she’s already waited too long for his return. And as Claude lifts her from the ground, she can’t help but grin into the kiss. This, this is what true happiness feels like. It’s being surrounded by friends. It’s getting to live in a peaceful world. It’s being in the arms of the man she loves more than anyone else. This is happiness; Byleth is sure of it.
---
Small smiles pull at the corners of Flayn’s students as she wraps up her story. It did them some good to have spent a class not taking notes, but just listening to a story of Flayn’s choosing. She knows better than to make every class a potential exam question, facts memorized and regurgitated. Sometimes, kids just need a moment to learn without the expectation of repeating the facts exactly as they have been told.
She watches as her students get up from their chairs, stretching a little before filing out of her classroom. And Flayn grins as a few students come to her, prodding her for more details. She happily fills them in, though not without keeping a few of the information to herself.
Where did she get that story? Where can they read it for themselves? Well, Flayn tells them she had come across it during her university days, back when she was a student who had travelled to the ancient capital of Derdriu. The exact source, she can’t recall, but she’ll be sure to tell them if she finds it somewhere.
Why was it she seemed so familiar with people who had lived a thousand years ago? Well, that’s simple. She’s spent so much time on the subject, they almost seem like friends to her. She’s read so much about them, seen so much art about the victors of the Great Fódlan War; she can’t help but talk about them as if she were acquainted with them.
Did Claude and Byleth have children? Did they get to live happily ever after? That, Flayn has no troubling answering. She has no problem smiling as she nods: they did have children of their own, and they did get to live a happy life together, though not without their disagreements. Claude and Byleth, they were both headstrong, though it is said that the King more often than not conceded to his wife out of pure love and devotion. The only thing she could never win against him was the way wyverns were trained, not that she had any intention of correcting him on his way of treating the beasts.
But for more stories about the King of Almyra and the Queen of Fódlan, they would have to wait for another class with Flayn. Until then, she ushered them to their next class, reminding them of their upcoming reading assignment. Until the next time Flayn could tell them stories about Claude and Byleth, or perhaps of their friends, her students would have to get through their other classes.
It wouldn’t be long before Flayn would tell another story of her friends, not that anyone had to know that she had been there, standing behind everyone as horror and beauty filled Fódlan, during its destruction and its rebirth.

So apparently there is @fe-oc-week going rn and I almost missed it! So I am going to clump as many of the prompts as I can.
Day 1: Introductions
Her name is Elena von Riegan! The illegitimate daughter of Godfrey von Riegan and his mistress Setsuna. She was born in the year of 1153. When she was about six years old, her and her mother left the Leicester Alliance to get to another country, but they end up in Fraldarius territory where they stayed. When the plague hit, it took her mother, leaving her by herself with no family left to speak of. She is a dark flier and her pegasus was a gift from Lambert and was once his first wife's pegasus.
Elena is very energetic, cunning, and stubborn. She loves her pegasus, dancing, singing, purple butterflies, rose acacia flowers. spicy food. Here interests includes learning new tactics, exploring, new training styles, and scheming. She does not like her father, disorganization, heat, and swimming. Elena is one year younger than Glenn and she is 9 years older than Felix.
Day 2: Relationships
She was part of the next generation of Faerghun four which includes Glenn Govan Fraldarius, Colby Frey Galatea, and Miklan Anschutz Gautier.
Glenn: Her childhood friend who she bonded with instantly. Over the course of their lives, they became best friends and did everything with. Eventually the two did fall in love with each other, but never acted on it because of Glenn's betrothal to Ingrid. She is the one that Glenn trusts the most.
Colby: They are very close and are childhood friends. They are pure chaos with each other and have zero braincells when they are around each other. They do care about each other deeply and Colby trust her to the point that he told her that she is a trans woman and wants to go by Astrid instead of Colby.
Miklan: The two used to be so close, like brother and sister, and did everything together. They both trained in axes and war tactics under Matthias and magic under Miklan's mother, Raven. They always competed with each other to see who was best. Elena always won. But with the birth of Sylvain, that's when their relationship broke. They constantly fought and she did everything she could to protect Sylvain from Miklan's terrible behavior. With the way Miklan treated his younger brother, she lost all feelings towards him and felt relief when he left/died.
Holst: They are friendly with each other and get along very well. They usually train with each other or have a little tea party to catch up on life since they don't see each other all that often. Sometimes they are at odds with each other, but usually they come to an agreement.
Balthus: As much as Elena likes Balthus, she gets very frustrated with Balthus. Most of her frustrations come from cleaning up his mess with Holst. She constantly questions their friendship and wonders how is still alive most of the time.
Claude: Elena cares for Claude so very much. Whenever they are around each other, they get into so much trouble and have so much fun. They pull multiple pranks on people, especially on the Gloucester family. They constantly give Judith and Nader heart-attacks. Elena also is very motherly towards Claude.
Godfrey: Elena despises her father and can't stand him. She went no contact with him after her and her mother left Riegan Territory. From what she remembers of him, she didn't feel like he cared for her or her mother. She also felt like she was like she was never meant to exist and that she was a plight on the Riegan name. So she never cared to keep in contact with her father when she got older.
Amelia: Elena always felt loved from Duchess Fraldarius, as she was the daughter Amelia never got. The two of them are very close, and they treat each other with a lot of respect.
Rodrigue: Rodrigue is like a father to Elena. He treats her with such kindness, softness, and gentleness. If she had any opinion on how a father should be, it would be Rodrigue. He trusts her with a lot of information and has her as his advisory, not only for him, but for his wife and his son Glenn.
Lambert and Aisla: Elena is like a daughter that they never had. They are like a third family to her. They care for each other deeply and trust her with so much.
Dimitri: Elena is like an older sister Dimitri and one of his closest friends. She would do anything to protect him, even at the cost of her life and in turn he would do the same. She believes in him and the future he wants to create. She is also very motherly towards him.
Ingrid: Elena and Ingrid don't get along with each other at all. She wanted to befriend her and be nice to her for Glenn's sake and because she would become Ingrid's advisor in the event she becomes the next Duchess Fraldarius. But that always failed with Ingrid's jealousy and hatred towards her. Elena does everything possible to avoid Ingrid.
Day 3: Backstory
Elena was born the only, and illegitimate, daughter of Godfrey von Riegan and his mistress Setsuna. She is also the niece of Tiana von Riegan and cousin to Claude von Riegan.
Setsuna's and Godfrey's relationship was kept in secret, and when Elena was born, her existence was also kept as a secret. Shortly after Godfrey's relationship and daughter found out, Setsuna feared the worst for her and her child, she took Elena and left the Alliance Territory. Setsuna fled towards Duscur in hopes of saving Elena from her family and all the backlash.
On their way to Duscur, they ended up in Fraldarius, only hoping to stay the night. While they were there, Elena befriended Glenn instantly. After that, they stayed there. Setsuna became an advisor to Duchess Fraldarius, Amelia and Elena enjoyed her childhood in Fraldarius.
Because of her mother constantly traveling, Elena was able to befriend Colby/Astrid Frey Galatea and Miklan Anschutz Gautier. She was able to train in axe and tactics under Matthias and reason magic under his wife, Raven. She would also travel with Amelia and Glenn to the Alliance Territory, where Elena was able meet Balthus and Holst.
With her friendship with Glenn and the Fraldarius family, she grew close to the Blaiddyd family. She learned how to hunt, ride a pegasus, and light magic because of the Queen Consort, Seraphina. Once Seraphina passed away, Lambert gifted Elena with his wife's pegasus because he knew no one would be able to ride her and Elena would be able to take care of her.
Growing up with Glenn, she fell in love with him. He was always so kind, so gentle with her, and he gave her all of his trust. They always confided in each other. As they grew, it always pained her that he would end up with Ingrid to the point where she debated leaving the Fraldarius family. She stayed anyways with the family, coming to the conclusion that she was content being with Glenn even if he was going to marry Ingrid.
Much to her delight, Glenn decided that after his travels to Duscur, he would end his betrothal to Ingrid and truly start his relationship with Elena.
Day 4: Tragedy
Elena was cleaning some rooms in Castle Fraldarius for when Lambert, Matthias, and a few other visitors came for some business. While she did that, she found a notebook that belonged to Lambert's first wife. While she read through it, she thought it would be best if he saw it because it had some incriminating info about Rufus and what his plans were for the throne. When she went up to Fhridiad to discuss negotiations with Duscur, she forgot the notebook and Lambert, Glenn, and the small army to wait a couple days. If she wasn't back from Fraldarius with the notebook, to go ahead and leave without her.
When she was on her way back to Fhridiad, she was ambushed by the TWISTED. She fought off as many as she could, but she wasn't able to survive the attack. She ultimately died along with her pegasus. In her last moments, she wished Glenn all the happiness in the world and hopefully he loves someone as much as he loved her. Her body was taken back to Fraldarius Castle where she had a proper funeral. Her pegasus was taken back to Fhridiad to have a proper send off of her own.
Day 5: Joy
In another world, she gets to Fhridiad in time and saves her life and the life of many, including Glenn's and Lambert's. Because of this, Glenn was able to call of his betrothal to Ingrid and they began to date, eventually getting married. They ended up having two children, Akari and Hotaru. They had Akari when Felix went to the academy, right around the time he receives the Aegis shield. Then they had Hotaru during the five year war.
Day 7: Endings
She will only have one canon ending and that will be with Glenn.
"After the war had ended, Elena went back to House Fraldarius with her beloved husband. Both Glenn and Elena rebuilt and restored Fraldarius Territory to its former glory, even making it better than the previous Duke and Duchess. It was often said that the Duke and Duchess spent much time in the kitchen with their children, filling the castle with laughter and celebrations. The recipes that they had, were passed down from generation to generation and became pillars of what food that started a culinary revolution, setting a new trend in the culinary world."

Note
just someone following the discussion here, i wanna say i do love that the FE series has 100% improved with the colorism. engage featuring actual playable sincerely black characters who aren't ashen and aren't evil and are just Part Of The Good Guys at least shows the writers have learned something since engage. Having actual POC in the cast also makes Sombron being Purple a less worse design choice than whatever gangrel has going on. It's easy to harp on the ten year old game, and boy knows i criticize it myself (out of love) but it is heartening to see improvement from three houses to engage.
100% AGREEMENT
It really is easy to harp on Awakening for its failings and the stereotypes it perpetuates, but I think part of why we do it is because we love it so much and we can see how much better it could have been. We can see the damaging messages it inadvertently says and we want more from something that we love so much.
But at the same time, the series has come so far since then with its representation. Claude von Riegan, one of our main Lords in Three Houses, has mixed Fodlani and Almyran heritage, and he's open about the struggles he's faced because of it -- while still being one of the kindest and most thoughtful people in the series, despite his reputation as an untrustworthy schemer. He cares about his friends and allies and goes out of his way to avoid conflict and death wherever he can. He's incredible. Petra, Dedue, and Cyril may have some flaws in their individual writing, but overall they're wonderful, heartfelt characters with their own stories, personalities, and flaws that make them wonderfully human and engaging.
And then Engage absolutely shot for the stars with Solm: Timerra, Fogado, and their mother are legitimately some of the highlights of the game for me, with Fogado in particular ranking up there with Alcryst in terms of my favorite characters from the game (me and my archer lords, I can't help it). I was really worried that Fogado would stray into the 'shameless flirt' archetype that I hate, but instead he is so genuine and such a wonderful guy who cares about everyone and I love him so much. I'm honestly not sure where Zelkov falls because his skintone is on the odd side but also he is endlessly exploring hobbies and crafts and I love him, too, he has the exact creative spirit I want to cultivate.
I really am overjoyed to see how the franchise has progressed in terms of its representation over the years. I think it's still fair to criticize the older games (again, out of love -- it's definitely out of love), but I'm always delighted to acknowledge when they make strides to improve.

[ FE:3H ] 1000 Reasons
Title: 1000 Reasons Ship: Claude von Riegan x Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd Chapters: 2 of ?. Summary: Claude is having a great day. So good that even the barista who took his coffee order that afternoon had spelled his name right!
Absolutely nothing could ruin the day.
Enter Dimitri Blaiddyd. (His ex for the uninformed.)
Okay, so maybe one thing could ruin the day.
[Or the Dimiclaude romcom no one asked for but everyone needs. It'll be chock full of that good romcom trope goodness. Just strap in and get ready.]
It's not imperative to the story but if you want to get a musical feel for their relationship and the story, you'll want to check out 1000 Reasons by Caleb Hearn. I named the title of this fic after this song.
👔 1 👔 2 👔
•───────•°•👔•°•───────•
Chapter 2
Claude had never been more wrong than he had been to think that Dimitri moving back into town was going to really change anything.
For one, he hadn't moved back in with Claude and the others. He'd gotten a really fancy pad in the richer part of town. It wasn't until things like that happened that Claude even remembered the blond was rich.
That had been one of the many things Claude had loved about the blond—though he had money, and plenty of it, he never bragged or shoved someone's face in it. He dressed really nice but it wasn't ever too flashy or obviously expensive. Just really nice clothes. Dignified. Noble.
To a fault.
Just like the man wearing them.
The other reason he'd been very wrong in his assumption that Dimitri being back was going to cause problems, was the fact that while they were still very much exes, with clearly plenty of resentment still lingering, both of them had grown in the five years they'd spent apart.
Well. He'd grown anyway. He supposed he couldn't really speak for his ex, but he hoped for the best. Just because it hadn't worked out between them and they were no longer amicable with one another, didn't mean he wanted Dimitri to suffer. Far from it.
He actually wished him nothing but happiness and success. He just wished the big dumb idiot would do it far away from him so he didn't have to have a constant reminder of their failed history.
"—to Claude? Um, helloooo~ Earth to Claude?!"
The Claude in question blinked as he came back to both himself and the present. Hilda was staring at him with both expectancy and annoyance.
"There you are! Finally!" She grumbled under her breath and shook her head, raising her phone's mouthpiece to her mouth.
"Okay. He's no longer daydreaming, Holst. I swear, ever since Dimitri moved back into town he's been acting crazy."
Claude was still trying to focus on the here and now so while he heard Holst's gruff, loud voice coming over the speaker, nothing he said registered. A few moments later, the call came to an end.
"My brother is gonna call you. Be sure to answer it, dummy. I'm not gonna bail you out again."
Claude nodded. "Thanks, Hilda. You're my real ride-or-die," he said, meaning every word. Hilda just laughed but looked pleased all the same.
Watching her start to leave, something jogged in his memory.
"Oh, Hilda, wait!"
The pink haired girl turned back to him.
"Okay, but hurry. Leonie needs me to set the table. You're eating with us tonight, right?"
Claude nodded. "Yeah. So, the night Dimitri moved back. What did he want?"
Hilda shrugged. "To talk to my brother about something, I guess. I just told him I'd have Holst call him and that's when you came in and the two of you had a cat fight."
Claude glared at that but there wasn't much heat behind it. Honestly, her description probably wasn't too far off. He could totally see someone comparing his and Dimitri's squabbling as two fighting cats hissing.
"Right."
Hilda took off and Claude watched her go. A few moments later, his phone was buzzing. He answered the call quickly.
"Heya, Holst, buddy. Thanks for getting back to me. So what did you— uh… really? They're interested in coding for the app then. And they'll meet with us… us and our other investor."
A sinking feeling settled over him.
"So just one is not enough anymore huh? Where am I supposed to find another investor?"
Claude grinned at the answer he received. "You got us another backer! Now why didn't you open with that, asshole. Of course, you're hilarious. So any chance the other investor can make the meeting tomorrow?"
He was joking but pleasantly surprised when Holst answered in the affirmative.
"Oh my god. That's great. Well, I guess I'll see everyone tomorrow. Business casual—ugh, fine. I'll wear a suit. Don't say I never did anything for you, Goneril."
The call had come to an end. Which was just as well because a second later, Lysithia was screeching up the stairs at him that dinner was ready.
As he got up to head down stairs, he cursed himself as he remembered he had completely forgotten to ask Holst about Dimitri. Luckily, he'd be seeing him the very next day.
Claude made sure to get to Holst's investment firm thirty minutes early. He went over everything with Holst and then the two of them set up the conference room.
That done, Holst's secretary informed them that two out of three of the other guests had arrived. Once she had settled them in the room with water and copies of Claude's business proposal, Claude and Holst moved to join the two. Just as Holst reached for the door, Claude stopped him.
"Real quick, before I forget because of this meeting—Hilda told me that Dimitri had been looking for you the night he moved back. So what's up with that? What did he want?"
"Oh! That. That's—why don't I tell you after the meeting. It's a lot to go into and we should get in there before the other investor gets in."
Claude sighed. He wanted to know more now, not later. Unfortunately, Holst was already moving on. He opened the door and the two of them entered, greeting the app developers and getting settled in while they waited for the last guest to show up.
They didn't have to wait too much longer.
A firm knock sounded on the door and Holst's secretary opened it once the older man gave her the approval.
"Sir, he's here. Should I s—"
"Yes, please send him in."
Claude, who had been watching, was beginning to feel the tell tale itches that told him something was a little hinky.
Just what was hinky was answered a second later as Dimitri Blaiddyd walked back into his life for the second time in the span of a week.

i’ve seen people saying that they’re excited to see camila interacting with the boiling isles kids because she’s going to be such a great and supportive mom, and i absolutely agree that she’s going to be great, especially for those of them coming from less than stellar circumstances.
but... she’s also a single mom who’s been caring for a demon kid for months, scared sick not knowing how her own kid is doing, now being handed four more very traumatized kids. she’s doubtless gonna be stressed for a bit. she’s gone from having one kid to having a different kid to having six under one roof. that’s a big change. and it’s gonna take some getting used to.
all i’m saying is if things don’t start out fantastic, it’s entirely reasonable. camila is great, but she’s just one entirely human person. mistakes will likely be made. and that’s okay.

For the writing ask, gimme uhhh...
1. Is there a story you're holding off writing for some reason?
3. What order do you write in?
9. What, if anything, do you do for inspiration?
14. Do you make playlists for your current wips?
16. Are there any characters who haunt you?
20. Do you write in long sit-down sessions or in little spurts?
Okay, I'm keeping it short so other people can ask shit too. And I'm definitely not using this to procrastinate, it's because I think you're so interesting and am in love with u <3
I have like 50 things shuffling in my mind like those you'd find in a line at your local DMV or government official's office, all just milling about and waiting for their chance to get 200w dedicated to them and their amazing idea. The one who's been in line the longest is probably a long-form road trip story that has been sitting in my drafts for literal years now, changing fandoms and characters as one does a shirt during a pep rally at a very enthusiastic high school or perhaps a diaper on a very sick baby. Right now, literally, right now, I am trying to write a Splatoon story for my OC but I just cannot get a grasp on the world or where to start. It feels like suffocating.
I usually start with the intro of a story and then just jump around from there. I usually don't take away from drafts, only add to them. So if it gets written then there's a solid 70% chance it's making it to the final draft, albeit longer than originally planned or reworded to some minor degree.
I read! If in doubt consume better content. When I say read I mean actual published books. If that doesn't work (and it usually doesn't) I try to go to very stimulating places and just take it all in and rewrite what it felt like. That usually always works. It's tiring though so it's very much a last-case resort.
I don't make playlists for wips because I don't know enough music to make them stand out. It'll just be Anita Baker, Zack Fox and some classical music shuffled together to fit the headspace I was in while writing, not the actual tone of the story.
Haunt in the sense I wish I could do them justice but I cannot out of fear (spooky ghost) or just incompetence? Yes. Here's a list: Akira Kurusu (P5R), Claude Von Riegan (FE3H), Rock Lee (Naruto), Benji (Splatoon 3 oc), Anyone from fire emblem 3 houses that aren't Sylvain (FE3H), The guy who stared at me when I got gas once (circa 2022)
I have 2 writing modes. Casual and Freak mode. Casual is little 200-word bursts here and there. The most common way I write. Freak mode is unusual and scary and only happens when I have maximum motivation (attention or money) and maximum ideas (or money or attention). During freak mode, I can possibly get 2k down at once. Any more and something is wrong with me. call the fire marshal, please.

because @armatization and i don’t have enough threads yet....or enough pain
She’d had the ticket for a year and never used it.  It was more of a pass than a ticket,  so she could go whenever she wanted up until the end of the year.  The open-air museum,  what used to be Garreg Mach monastery,  was open year-round except for major holidays and terrible weather,  but Byleth had found almost every excuse imaginable to avoid going.
She didn’t want to take a tour or hear someone else talk about the war she’d fought in.  Heaving a sigh,  she fingered the ticket in her pocket as she stood diligently in the queue,  resigning herself to the fact that she would have had to do this sooner or later.  The attendant scanned the bar code and she stepped through the turnstile to get inside,  moving out of the way as a gaggle of high school students immediately swarmed the marketplace.
One of her friends had gotten her the ticket almost a year ago when the museum finally reopened after some renovations to maintain the archaic structures.  She’d meant well,  but Byleth dreaded actually going.  No matter where she looked,  all she saw were ghosts.  The classrooms had been recently repainted,  the banners for the black eagles,  blue lions,  and golden deer sewn anew  ;  they hung proudly in the same spot they’d always done.  The wooden beams had been replaced and painted. The restoration team had done a great job, honestly.
Byleth’s phone vibrated in her coat pocket  ;  Seteth had finally resigned himself to learning how to text.  Flayn’s influence,  no doubt.  But she’d respond later.  She hadn’t told them she was coming here.  This is my older brother and my cousin,  she always told people,  even though she’d found a hair dye that matched her old blue,  and maintained it religiously ever since.  She’d taken to wearing glasses now too,  a bright red pair that Flayn had picked out for her some time ago.
She wandered around the grounds for what felt like hours before she found herself up in the dormitories.  Each one was roped off,  but decorated according to records of the tastes of the most famous inhabitants.  Ferdie’s room,  she thought,  really did look almost as though he’d done it himself.  She missed him and his endless enthusiasm for life,  bright as the sun itself.  She missed all of them,  even now.
Her eyes caught one name in particular, one of the many on plaques detailing who had lived there during the war,  what house they’d been in,  which side they’d fought on.  His,  of course,  would have been one of the most visited. The famed King of Unification was a hero whose life’s efforts had brought about changes that were still in effect,  in some form,  today.
Her thumb and index finger on her right hand moved subconsciously to play with the ring on her left.  Older by far than most everything around her except the walls of the monastery itself,  she’d had it professionally cleaned and restored many times over the long years.  There were few things she had taken care of better.
The center of her chest began to hurt,  though her heart still didn’t beat,  and she stepped back,  tearing her eyes away from the name Claude von Riegan,  Golden Deer,  Leicester Alliance,  King of Unification … and immediately apologized with a slight gasp as she all but collided with someone who was walking behind her at the same moment.  “Oh,  I’m so sorry—“

Dimiclaude kiss prompt no. 55?
this turned out... longer than i intended lmao
also hope you're okay with a soulmate au, because this is the only idea i had for this lol! thanks for requesting <3 <3
(also a warning for spoilers about claude's backstory and maybe dimitri's a little bit but otherwise i'm pretty sure everything is spoiler-free!!)
--
His name is Khalid, is what Dimitri’s mind - wide awake from the searing sting of finally gaining his soulmark - says, barely a whisper while when Ingrid got hers, she screamed with joy the moment she found out her soulmate was Glenn.
That was a year ago, on the fourth of the Guardian Moon, precisely the day of her birth, which was celebrated with her family and friends.
It’s legend that you become of age to receive a soulmark from the day you turn twelve to the day you turn sixteen. Sylvain, two years older, had, unsurprisingly received his two years prior to Ingrid and Felix who both received theirs when they officially became of age.
Dimitri however, while not exactly a rare case, though not a complete normality, had received his a year later than which his childhood friends did, at age 13.
Her mark glistens a glittering gold on the inside of her left wrist, corresponding with Glenn’s which is on the inside of his right one. Dimitri remembers her gushing how when the first time they held hands, their marks shone when they touched.
He also remembers Felix gagging and glaring at the two lovebirds for the rest of the day, completely enraptured with one another and nothing else.
As of that day, their betrothal was made official, now that Ingrid had her mark to confirm the one Glenn owned.
That was a while back now, and today, an exact year later, is Dimitri’s birthday. The mark on his arm stings, but as his eyes really take in the word in beautiful script on his wrist, he begins to ignore the pain.
Exactly three hours later, he’s at the Felix and Glenn’s home, sitting outside on the grass with the two of them, having recently abandoned the wooden training swords. Glenn is a full four years older than all of them, except Sylvain, who is only two years older. Yet despite his age Glenn still treats them the same.
When Dimitri finally shows the two his soulmark after lots of nagging, he notices the way Felix bites his lip and averts his gaze.
But before he can question it, Felix teases “You’re going to have a boyfriend!” before bursting out into laughter.
Dimitri hadn’t even thought of that, fully focused on the fact that he has a soulmark and not on the fact that his soulmate has the name of a boy.
He… isn’t too sure what to feel about that.
“And you are too,” Glenn calls in a sing-song voice to his younger brother, only to get fiercely elbowed in the stomach. A scowl has found its way onto the bright-eyed boy’s face.
Dimitri doesn’t say a word. Felix has been oddly secretive about his soulmark ever since he got it a month after Ingrid’s, while she had been flouncing it around whenever she got the chance and wasn’t with Glenn. Though at the same time, even at thirteen, Felix has been secretive, spending more time by himself than with the group unless he was absolutely forced too.
“Shut up!” he snaps, folding his arms and pouting. “I hate you.”
“So kind, Fe,” Glenn teases with a grin, ruffling his younger brother’s hair.
Silently Dimitri wonders what it would be like if he was in Glenn’s shoes, and he had a little brother of his own.
The silence Dimitri’s indulged in gets broken with a familiar call, and Dimitri turns to see Sylvain, even taller than the last time he saw his friend, standing alongside Ingrid who immediately rushes to greet Dimitri with a hug before running over to Glenn.
“Happy birthday, Dimitri!” Sylvain hollers the second he closes the door, separating the kids from the adults indoors. He joins the group. “How does it feel to no longer be the only soulmate-less one?” He adds a wink as if the very phrase itself wasn’t terrible enough.
A collective group of groans reverberate around the circle they’ve formed.
“You’re an idiot,” Felix grumbles to the older teen, averting all eye contact and instead vouching for a heated glare at the grass. Oh, if looks could kill.
“Aww, I love you too, Fe,” Sylvain teases, still grinning merrily as if he nothing is wrong with the world.
Felix’s face flushes. “Why does everyone keep saying that?”
Ingrid laughs. “I can say it too, if you’d like.” She clears her throat, as if beginning some long and important speech. “Aww, I love you too, Felix.”
“Now that’s left is Dimitri,” Glenn notes, looking at him.
The younger Fraldarius looks just about ready to bolt as Dimitri says “Aww, I love you too, Felix.”
Instead, he just mutters “It’s your birthday so I’ll take it. Just this once though.”
Sylvain leans close to Dimitri and whispers in a not-so-quiet voice “A little birdy told me you received your soulmark!” Bold black cursive writing stares up at him with non-existent eyes and he feels his heart start to thud.
Thump. Thump-thump. Thump. Thump-thump.
He doesn’t reply, instead peeling his sleeve a little higher above and shows Ingrid and Sylvain his soulmark.
The taller of the two squints at it, as if it’s hard to see. Ingrid’s reaction is more surprised, by the way her eyes widen, and her jaw goes a little slack. She fixes it when she sees his eyes on her with a small smile. “That’s great, Dimitri! It’s so pretty,” she gushes in a very un-Ingrid manner, but the twinkle in her eyes is all the same. “I wonder when you’ll meet your soulmate…”
“Khalid’s not a Fódlan name,” Sylvain offhandedly comments. Dimitri frowns at him, and he hastily continues. “I mean it’s not a Fódlan name I’ve heard. Who knows? You could get some hottie from Duscur or Brigid.”
“Of course, someone from Duscur or Brigid would come all the way over for our Prince,” Glenn drily says, pecking Ingrid on the cheek at her wide-eyed smile. “We’re not getting rid of him that easily.”
--
His soulmark was something Dimitri was very focused on for a while.
Then Duscur happened and everything seemed to fall apart.
His family, his friends… everything changed. The mark on Ingrid’s wrist faded to a black splotch, and the golden writing had completely disappeared.
Felix had shut himself off completely, not leaving his room unless he was training and not talking to anyone unless he was yelling at them.
Sylvain… seemed more closed off – more subdued. Dimitri saw him less and less as the months ebbed on.
And Dimitri… Dimitri couldn’t sleep, couldn’t focus, couldn’t even think. His dreams being haunted by the dead, his father begging for revenge, Glenn hissing in his ear, taunting him, his mother, crying at his feet.
“You should’ve saved us,” they hiss. “Kill them for us. Kill them all!”
It’s not the first time he wakes to a cold sweat, a scream hanging on the edge of his lips.
He’s sent to live, along with the Duscur boy he met, Dedue, at Rodrigue’s place, and there Dimitri finds it frequent where he gets the full brunt of Felix’s verbal abuse. He wants to talk back, to say it wasn’t his fault, but he can’t find the words, can’t even find the motivation to speak. Instead, he just nods, silent, and Dedue finds him, concern lingering in his gaze.
It’s like that for a while.
Then the rebellion happens, and Felix seems to hate him even more.
--
It’s almost a relief when he arrives to the Officers Academy.
There he meets Edelgard von Hresvelg (or reunites, perhaps, if his hunch is in fact correct), heir to the Empire, and Claude von Riegan, heir to House Riegan.
Claude is… well… Claude is a lot of things.
In their audience with Rhea, he is stiff and stoic-faced, though the second they’re released from the chamber, he introduces himself properly to Dimitri. “So, you’re the prince,” he says with a wink. “Nice to meet you.”
“It is good to meet you too,” says Dimitri in return, dipping his head. He offers a small smile.
It’s not the only time they talk. As the year ebbs on, Dimitri gets to know Claude, should it be through sparring together, or even tea times Claude has insisted on. Claude is… well, first of all he’s nice and he’s kind, and he’s also very funny. He seems to bring a smile to Dimitri’s face whenever he’s around, and not only that but he’s…
…he’s beautiful.
Maybe it’s his smile, Dimitri supposes, his genuine one, or maybe those piercing green eyes. He’s also been good looking.
Sometimes when they train, Dimitri catches himself staring, and Claude’s caught him too, offering a wink and a teasing comment without any heat.
Not only that but Dimitri’s heart flutters whenever he’s around Claude, and he has to remind himself constantly that this isn’t okay because Claude is not his soulmate. The mark on his wrist proves just that much.
“You’re staring, your Highness.”
Dimitri flinches, almost forgetting that Sylvain is opposite him, lazily twirling his lance. He smirks at his childhood friend. “Got your eyes on someone?”
It would be great if he was immune to Sylvain’s teasing, but he is only human, and heat rises to his cheeks. “No!” His voice sounds a few pitches higher than it usually is. He clears his throat, averting his gaze from Claude who turns away from Hilda who he’s sparring with (how he got her to do so remains a mystery to the school) to offer a questioning brow. “I mean, uh, no. Of course not.”
“Sure, sure.”
Sylvain doesn’t sound at all convinced. He leans closer, whispering in Dimitri’s ear, “I mean Riegan is pretty hot. I don’t think even your soulmate would blame you for checking him out.”
Dimitri splutters, “W-what?”
“I have to go,” Sylvain says. “Pick up some of the ladies- oh, hey, Fe!” He runs off towards the direction of Felix who enters the training ground, and Dimitri doesn’t stop him, staring into the distance as his cheeks turn redder and redder as the seconds pass.
--
Nevertheless, Dimitri still goes out of his way to spend his time with Claude, pointedly ignoring his soulmark whenever he does.
“Your princliness!” Claude calls, waving in greeting as he runs over to him. Dimitri tries not to blush when he yet again winks.
“Claude!” He tries his hardest not to sound too surprised. “What-what are you doing here?”
He looks amazing. Dressed in a sharp suit he’s seen many of the other students wearing, his hair tousled and falling in front of his eyes. “I think the proper question is what are you doing here? Dedue’s worried about you. Says you haven’t even showed up to the ball and-”
Dimitri’s brain seems to shut off, his mind not listening as he surges forwards, closing the distance between them with a kiss.
It lasts two seconds. Maybe three.
Because immediately after their lips touch Dimitri lets go, eyes wide. “I- that was out of line,” he rushes. “I’m sorry, Claude, I shouldn’t have done that-”
But Claude pulls him back in, and Dimitri feels the mark on his wrist burn and-
He stares down at it, watching the white handwriting shimmer to gold. “What…?”
“I have been waiting so long to do that,” Claude breathes, oblivious to Dimitri’s confusion. He raises an eyebrow, clutching his hands. “Hey, what’s wrong…?”
“Khalid,” Dimitri breathes. Claude’s eyes widen. “That’s your name?”
“I-” Claude pauses, before nodding. “Yes. It is.”
Dimitri pulls him close, arms wrapping around him. He kisses Claude – or is it Khalid? – again, and again, and again. “It’s a beautiful name.”
“Mmhm.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Their night ends not in the ballroom, but outside under the moonlight, the memory of soft kisses and warm embraces never to leave Dimitri’s mind.

May I request an angst fic based on "There are no bargains between lion and men. I will kill you and eat you raw" for Claude x reader? Totally up to you whether or not you want to make it have a fluff ending or just be straight angst. Thank you!
no bargains
fire emblem three houses: claude von riegan
Tumblr media
i’m afraid i’ve long since given up on writing long fics, BUT i can try and do some bullet points instead!! (which is… literally just a long fic but written in bullet points….)
this is a very interesting quote + i didn’t want to pass it up lmao
Tumblr media
there are no bargains between lion and men - you’d remembered reading that in the library of the monastery, long ago in your school days.
now, as an esteemed member of the blue lion army, this quote seemed to make more sense; there wasn’t any mercy on the battlefield, friend or no friend.
killing off the people that you’d merely seen the faces of was easy and you’d yet to come across someone whom you’d actually cared about, but you hoped that there wouldn’t ever arise a situation like that.
well, you knew that there’d be some hard times in this war, but you had no idea it’d be this hard.
stood right in front of you was none other than your previous lover, claude von riegan himself - someone who, dimitri had said, had to go, due to not knowing what his plans were.
you knew what you had to do, but it was a question of whether or not you could do it.
the way he looked at you with the same eyes he looked at you with before - full of love, sympathy, and mercy.
it made your heart flutter, but your head filled with rage - there wasn’t any time for bargains, you reminded yourself.
claude seemed to pick up on your steeled nerves and smirked, putting his bow away and walking up to you with his hands up.
“i’m not here to kill you,” he tells you, “killing isn’t necessary for us. we just want your help.”
you stayed quiet for a minute, listening to what he was saying.
his smirk only seemed to grow as he spoke. “all we need is the blue lions’ assistance to take down edelgard. we can share fodlan, can’t we? fifty-fifty? - look, all i’m saying is that we shouldn’t kill each other over this. it’s stupid. can’t we just-”
he was cut off by you knocking him to the floor, digging your sword in the space just beside his neck. claude’s eyes widened in surprise - not quite fear - as you said,
“there aren’t any bargains between lion and men. i will kill you, and i’ll eat you raw.”
despite the fierce look on your face, it didn’t seem like he was taking you seriously. you pulled up your sword, holding it above his head, pointing the blade down at his neck
he only laughed. his hands raised again, and he whispered, “god, you’re beautiful even when you’re threatening to eat me. i know you won’t actually do it, so why don’t you-”
he stopped again, your sword dug even closer to his neck this time - “i mean every word i say. don’t underestimate me, riegan.”
claude’s smirk vanished, and he finally looked like he was taking you seriously. he had a habit of trying to smooth talk his way out of everything, and it was something you’d come to despise.
he sighed. “if only things were a little different,” he whispered, “if only we were on the same team. i wish we’d stayed together - i wish we’d stuck together throughout these past few years, and i wish that we could all just be happy.”
typical of him to spurt out some nonsense about living in peace and harmony, you thought, even though you could agree with him - things would be a lot better if this huge war wasn’t going on.
but the only way this was going to end was if you won, and there was only one way to do so.
and that wasn’t through bargains.
“you know, i really did love you. i still do. i have loved you for six years, and i’ll love you for sixty times six more years. say, perhaps when this is over, you and i could run off to almyra for a bit - for the rest of our lives! think of the family we’ll have, our family! imagine that! imagine us-”
slash! he was cut off a third time.
blood splattered everywhere - on the ground around you, pooling around your legs and around claude, and splashing up your armour.
you’d killed claude. that was one less house fighting in this war. you’d done what you had to do.
his eyes - his beautiful eyes - were closed for good, and a smile still frozen onto his cold face. the hands that held yours would hold no others.
you’d told him you meant it. why didn’t he listen?

Dimiclaude- arranged marriage ?
I had something else in mind completely, but then I saw a preview for "married at first sight" and decided to do a modern AU. Never seen the show, so I just made the rest up. Hope you like it!
Dimitri assessed himself in the ornate mirror again, acutely aware of the cameras capturing his every movement, every emotion. Even his wildest daydreams never once included a television camera crew filming his wedding. Yet, the chaos helped keep his attention far from the very real vows he was about to make to a man he had never met.
The venue was fantastic, he couldn't have selected something better himself. It warmed his heart to know the man he would be marrying found an outdoor wedding ideal as well, and where better than a vineyard overlooking a lush valley? So far, everything was perfect. Perfect venue, perfect weather, perfect suit, and, if all went well, he would leave with the perfect husband.
Sylvain's laughter announced his arrival, and Dimitri wasn't surprised to find the Producer, Manuela, fawning over him. "Heya, Dimitri! Whoa, Felix wasn't joking when he said you're dressed to the nines."
Manuela laughed, a practiced sound. "Of course, we couldn't have our star looking anything less than his best on his wedding day!" She clapped her hands together, "Alright, we need to film some camera confessionals to splice into the intro and before the breaks. Are you ready?"
Dimitri nodded, not trusting his voice. Dedue, his best man, had left to take a personal call. He was his rock through the whole process, by his side from the day he caved into Sylvain's suggestion and signed up for the matchmaking television show. Dedue's calm presence kept him centered while he waited months for a match to be made.
"Alright," Manuela clapped again, bringing his attention to the camera now in front of him. "First question: How are you feeling now?"
Dimitri inhaled and mentally repeated the general rules Manuela gave him for talking to the camera. He didn't want to redo the shots like he often had to at the beginning of the process. Being in front of the camera was nothing new for him, but filming reality television was very different from filming one of his movies.
"Right now… I am still in disbelief. I gave up finding love years ago, and to have this chance…" He looked away from the camera. "Knowing the man waiting for me at the altar is there because experts have determined we are compatible… Knowing he is not here because of my family name or my wealth means so much."
"Good, good. Question two" Do you think getting married will impact your career?"
"I hope not. My movies have been successful because of my talent, and while I am very aware of my… fan club… I believe they will be happy if I am happy."
"Question three: any pushback from your family during this process?"
"Only concern from my friends, but they support me going through with this. One of them is actually why I signed up for it- after a lot of cajoling. And some alcohol to calm my nerves."
Someone with a clipboard and earpiece grabbed Manuela's attention, and she motioned for him to walk around for some action shots as she disappeared out the door. He complied, but was disappointed to note Sylvain had slipped away during his interview. Typical; the man couldn't stay still on a normal day.
He walked to the window, looking out at the vineyard. Two small guest houses sat on the estate, built so couples could get ready for their wedding separately. There was no chance he would accidentally see his fiancé, and even if he did, how would he tell him apart from the other guests and crew milling about the property?
Would he like the man they chose for him? After so many interviews, personality tests, and various questionnaires, he sure hoped so. More importantly, would he like Dimitri? Was his custom Brioni suit too much? Would the non traditional deep blue be acceptable? His life was often a whirlwind when he was filming a movie, could his husband handle it? It was one of the most common relationship killer for him, and had been one of the first things he mentioned when he first signed up for the show. Had they remembered to take it into account?
"Good, good." Manuela's voice filled the room once more. "We can throw a voice over this, the audience will eat up that pensive staring out the window. Dimitri, are you ready?"
"Ready?"
"To get married, silly. We're about to start."
It was time already?
"Dimitri." Dedue's strong voice came from the doorway. He turned his gaze to Manuela, "May we have a moment?"
"Of course." She motioned for the camera to keep rolling and Dimitri sighed. Even with her out of the room, he needed to be camera ready.
"Dimitri," Dedue said again as he pulled Dimitri into a tight embrace. How in his head was he if he hadn't noticed Dedue crossing the room? "Breathe."
"Aww, are you guys having a moment I wasn't invited to?" Sylvain appeared at his side as he pulled away from Dedue. Immediately, he pulled Dimitri into a hug of his own. "If this doesn't work, then I had nothing to do with it. If you fall madly in love, then you're welcome."
Dimitri chuckled and pulled away from the embrace. Lingering just out of reach stood Felix. He knew better than to try and hug his prickly friend, instead he nodded towards him. "Thank you all. I could not imagine doing this without your support."
"Not having a change of heart, are we?" Manuela's head peeked into the room.
Dimitri forced a smile through his anxiety. "No. Let's go meet my future husband."
Manuela ushered him outside and into a covered golf cart. As they were driven up the hill to where he would get married, she double checked the microphone hidden in his Boutonniere. "Alright, so this venue is a tricky one since it's outside. There are two curtain boxes set up opposite each other. You will both step through them on cue and walk towards each other and meet in the middle at the altar. Got it?"
Dimitri nodded as the cart came to a stop. Manuela exited first then motioned for him to follow her. She pointed to where he should stand, and he strained his neck to catch a glimpse of anything before the white curtains blocked his view. A similar curtain was on the other side as she'd said. Chairs were set up for the few guests each brought with them, but were currently empty.
As he stood behind the curtains, Dimitri strained to hear what was going on. He couldn't see the chairs or the altar, but after a few minutes the sounds of soft chatter floated to him. The altar was just beyond a thin fabric. His husband was just beyond thin fabric.
Dimitri focused on his breathing. It was real. He was about to marry someone who's name he didn't know. While he thought he worked through his anxiety over it, he clearly had not. What did he do with his hands? What if he tripped as he walked to the altar?
Before he could continue to spiral further, Manuela was signaling him to walk out. He hesitated. His friends were out there, his husband's friends were out there. His husband was out there. With a deep breath, Dimitri pushed the curtain aside and stepped out.
He paid no attention to the people to his left, focused only on the man already standing across from him. Gorgeous did not do the man justice, and once Dimitri stepped out his face lit up, flashing Dimitri a wide smile. There was something familiar about him, something Dimitri couldn’t yet place as distracted as he was by the way his green eyes danced.
His husband stepped forward, breaking the spell he put over Dimitri. When they met in the middle, between the altar and their friends, Dimitri thought it was too good to be true.
Remembering himself, Dimitri smiled down and introduced himself. "H-hello, I am Dimitri."
"Whoa," the man said. "I thought my eyes were deceiving me, but it really is you." Dimitri's heart began to sink, afraid he was just another fanboy until he continued. "I'm Claude."
Oh- it clicked. Claude Von Riegan, lead singer of the band The Golden Deer. "This is really happening."
Claude smiled, "Yeah, it suuure is."
Dimitri wanted to talk to him, ask so many questions- touch him. But they were not alone up at the altar and a soft voice startled them both out of the moment they were sharing. "Welcome, everyone. I am Byleth, the officiant for this joyous occasion."
They paused to give Dimitri and Claude a moment to catch their bearings. Dimitri risked a glance to his friends, and was relieved to find them looking content. Annette gave him a thumbs up at the same time Sylvain wolf whistled. Claude's side was just as lively, and Dimitri recognized members of his band in the front row.
Byleth continued, bringing their focus back to them. "We welcome Claude Von Riegan and Dimitri Blaiddyd-"
Dimitri couldn’t focus on their speech, too busy getting lost in Claude's eyes. He had enough sense about him to respond to the vows when prompted, and was endlessly glad they didn't have to write their own.
"Now, I pronounce you married. You may now kiss your groom, forever sealing your union."
Dimitri was eager to do so, his nerves falling away when Claude's lips found his. He completely forgot about the cameras as he eagerly returned the kiss, and nearly groaned when Claude pulled away.
Cheers rang out from their friends. He heard Sylvain's shout of, "Power couple!" over everyone else.
They were ushered down the aisle, through their friends' congratulations and into another covered cart. Claude's hand found his as they were driven to where the reception was being held, and Dimitri squeezed it in silent answer.
"Hey?" Claude looked at him, a smile tugging playfully at his lips.
"Yes?"
"We're married," Claude said, nudging his shoulder into Dimitri's.
Dimitri leaned over, placing a chaste kiss on Claude's cheek. "Yes, we are." He brushed his knuckles along his husband's cheek before diving for his lips.
He couldn't be happier with the outcome, and looked forward to getting to know his new husband, and starting their life together.
Thanks for reading!!

Note
After re-re-re-re-re reading that tiny Claude note that makes me so happy I got such an urge to gush to literally anyone willing to listen about the OC I made for him.
Her name is Sohelia. She’s Almayran but when Claude came to Fodlan you best believe she was on her way in an instant. She may or may not have bribed Holst into letting her over the border. She may be crestless but that doesn’t stop her from being a total badass. She can use magic but her strong suits are axes, flying, and authority. Her and Claude were childhood friends. She would have fought the war after the timeskip but he wouldn’t let her. When the Deer(this includes all recruitable characters bc I wanna save them all 🥺🥺🥺) went to Deridru and won the battle there Claude though to check up on her(they got married around a year and a half before Byleth woke up). When he got there, there was a little surprise waiting for him. Their daughter. They decided ti give her a name that sounds like it could pass in both Fodlan and Almayra so she’s Celeste Von Riegan. Fast forward he wins the war and is best dad. They split their time evenly between Fodlan and Almayra. That’s really all unless I go and explain every single little detail about Emma as well. For now I leave you with this Emma drawing I made.
Tumblr media
I’ll go back and shade later that takes too much time 💀
Oh, Sohelia! That’s a nice name. Aaah, I love this lore though and yes definitely a Claude thing to not have her fight in the war after the timeskip. I think he’d never forgive himself if anything ever happened to her T^T  But oh my gosh... Celeste, that’s a name I really like too. I think it’s so pretty ; v ; but ooh! Very cute... Emma is adorable ; v ;

Claude shifted around in bed, being unable to sleep. Many dreams and memories flowed through his mind as he tried to sleep. Memories of his father and mother walking with him in the castle garden at night, dreams of what could happen after the war, memories of his brother trying to kill him, and even memories of a woman he hasn't seen in ten years.
He felt a twinge of pain in his chest as he sat up in his bed. He hadn’t thought about his cousin for so long, and remembering her was painful. Claude remembered the day hearing about her death and remembering being with Judith and his grandfather. He felt numbness when he heard about her death, and felt anger at the terrible words that his grandfather had said about his cousin. It only got him thinking more of what his goals were; the tragedies that befell Faerghus and Duscur were even more reason to end the war. To break down the prejudices that people have so he didn’t have to lose another person, especially someone like his cousin.
Claude rubbed his temple, hoping to release those bad memories from his mind. Not that it would go away anytime soon, they will always be with him. He looked out his window, seeing the stars shining brightly. Maybe a walk around the monastery would help. As he walked through the dorms, and down the stairs, he finally felt the exhaust set in.
He didn’t know where he ended up, but he was glad he was able to see the stars. Looking up at them, it brought even more memories into his mind. The stars reminded him of the stories his mother, his father…his cousin told him when he was a child. The one that stuck with him the most was one that his cousin had told him when she was helping him get through Fodlan.
"Elena..." Claude whispered as he closed his eyes. "I wish I could hear you tell me another story of the Star Lovers."
"Oh, there you are, Mister Leader Man," Hilda chirped as she walked towards him.
"Bah! Hilda, don't sneak up on me like that!" Claude gasped, as he turned around to great her.
"Hehe, sorry!" She joked.
"What do you need?" Claude asked.
"Oh nothing, just doing some rounds and making sure everyone is sleeping," Hilda replied with a giggle.
"Oh, the lazy Hilda is actually doing something," Claude teased.
"The last thing I need is someone tired for me to do more work," Hilda teased him. "Which brings me to you. Why aren't you asleep?"
"I had a restless night," Claude admitted, his voice becoming more somber.
"Ah," Hilda faintly smiled. "There is nothing I can do about that."
"Actually, there is," he smiled.
"And what would that be?" Hilda sighed.
"Stay with me for a little bit. It'll put me at ease." Claude said.
"If you're sure," Hilda sighed and groaned. "So, what's this story about the Star Lovers?"
Claude faintly smiled, feeling the ease in his heart as she stayed. "It's about two people. A commoner girl leaving her ruined village, going to a territory more bountiful than her own."
"Uh-uh," She said softly as she listened to every word of his story.
"There she met a nobleman and the two slowly fell in love with each other," he went on, recalling the memories of when his cousin told him the story. He remember the cool fields that they walked through. His fondest memory of that day was sitting by a tree, having lunch, and the both of them exchanging childhood stories. He felt bliss that day, that the pain he was feeling melted away, and that there were truly good people out there. "They eventually got married and had a child. But soon after they had their son, war broke out and they were no longer able to see each other."
"Hmmm," Hilda murmured out, placing her finger on her cheek.
"Hilda?" Claude asked, giving her a confused look.
"No, it's nothing. Keep going," she insisted.
"Very well," he nodded, taking a deep breath. His hands were shaking as he tried to continued to tell the story his cousin told him. "The man died in a war, unable to go back to his wife and child and became a firefly. Because of this, everyone forced the woman and child out of the territory. They traveled around, doing everything they could to make ends meet. Eventually the time came for the woman to pass away, leaving behind her young son. When she passed, she became a firefly floating around until she found her late husband. When they reunited, they traveled up into the sky, becoming two stars."
"Claude," Hilda whined. "That is so sad."
"It is," Claude agreed, holding out his handkerchief.
"What became of the son?" She asked, sniffling taking the fabric.
"I don't know,” he said, trying to repress his shaking voice. “It was a story my friend was going to tell me the next time we met in person.
Hilda wiped the tears she shed off of her face before speaking. "That sounds like a story that Holst told me as a child."
"Oh, really?" He asked, intrigued.
"Yes, really," she giggled.
"Please tell me," he said, softly.
"Are you sure? It's a sad story," she told him.
"Yes, please?" He insisted.
"Okay," Hilda agreed, taking a deep breath in and exhaling. "The story is about a woman that helped a man in a noble house. The two fell in love and had a daughter. But that love soon turned sour and the woman took her child and left. Soon she ended up in another nobleman's home and stayed there. Her daughter fell in love with the nobleman's son, but it was forbidden since the son was already betrothed to another woman."
Hearing Hilda's story, it reminded him of Elena and what she went through growing up. He could feel Elena's stabbing pain she felt not being able to be with Glenn as he closed his eyes. He could see her running to her room, climbing into bed, and crying because it hurt her to be around him and yearning for him. He could feel all of her feelings, and it pained him to the emptiness he felt.
"What did they do?" He asked, opening his eyes.
"They had to hide their love. Whenever they left the son's home, they both went underground and stayed together doing Goddess knows what," she replied. "When they got older, a war broke out. The son was sent to fight and he lost his life. During the war, there was also a pandemic. The daughter caught it herself and passed away. The son became a blue butterfly while the daughter became a purple butterfly and the two eventually reunited."
"What happens next?" He asked, smiling through his gritted teeth.
"They both floated around in the world until they came across two different mothers. They flew into their cups before they both had a drink," Hilda responded with a low tone.
"They were swallowed?" Claude gasped.
"Yes," she chuckled. "The two were hoping to be reborn into a new life so they could love each other openly. Or at least that's what my brother told me."
"Heh," he laughed.
"Heh," she laughed along with him. "He told me in Faerghus' culture when people die, they become butterflies and float around into someone's cup to be reborn again."
"That's very sweet and not too far from what's here in the Alliance," he added with a smile.
Hilda nodded in agreement. "The story is called The Tale of Two Butterflies."
Hearing the title to Hilda's story, Claude's smile grew bigger as he suppressed his tears. It pained hear that the story was much like the life Glenn and Elena had lived. It pained him even more when he realized that Elena didn't take his words to heart saying that they should eloped if they truly wanted to be together. But he knew that was childlike wonder thinking that everyone would be able to do that. It wasn't the same for his cousin like it was for his mother.
"Claude? Are you okay?" She asked, visibly concerned, as she handed him his handkerchief back.
"Yes, I'm fine," he stuttered, still trying to repress his tears, as he took the cloth back.
"It doesn't look like it," she disagreed as she placed her hand on his shoulder.
"I assure you, I am fine," he insisted, rubbing his eyes and face.
"Okay," she sighed. "Anyway, who is this Elena person? She sounds familiar."
Claude placed his hand on Hilda's, squeezing it softly. "She was a...friend," he whispered, softly so she couldn't hear the shakiness in his voice.
"A friend?" She repeated.
"Yes," he breathed, feeling a twinge of pain in his chest. "She was a good friend. Elena helped me get to Daphnel and we talked so much on our way there. After I got into Judith's care, we sent some notes to each other."
"Oh how sweet!" Hilda rejoiced.
"It didn't last long though," Claude shot down, feeling the numbness take hold of him.
"What? Why?" She choked.
"She died," he said, moving her hand off of his shoulder. He turned to face her to show her the tears that welled in his eyes.
"Claude!" She panted, squeezing his hand even tighter. "Are you alright?"
"Yes, I am fine," he reassured her, feeling the numbing pain in his heart turn to emptiness.
Hilda nodded, knowing that he was lying. "Do you know what happened?"
"No," he sighed out. "All I know is that she was found dead by her pegasus."
Hilda frowned and felt the tears start to roll down her cheeks. "This sounds so familiar."
"How so?" Claude asked, letting go of her hand and giving him his handkerchief again.
"I remember my brother had this friend in Faerghus," she sighed, wiping the tears stroll down her face. "Two actually."
"Really?" Claude asked, feeling his eyelids getting heavy.
"Yes," she reassured him.
"What do you remember," he asked.
"I remember a woman from Fraldarius would bring her son and I think her daughter to  Gonriel. They would often train and hang out with Holst and Balthus," she replied, thinking long and hard of what she remembered. "I remembered a girl who had brown hair and green eyes. She also wielded an axe. I also remember a boy that had blue hair and blue eyes. He wielded a lance."
Claude sniffed as she continued to speak. He didn't realize how close his cousin was to the Gonriel family, but it was nice to know she had friends like them.
"Oh, Claude," she whined.
"I'm fine," he sniffed. "What else do you remember?"
"I remember that they came less and less as we grew older. Then they stopped all together," Hilda replied, tears welling up in her eyes. "Then I remember Holst being holed up in his room and Balthus drinking endlessly. The worst I have ever seen him, the both of them."
"Hilda," he softly spoke.
"Yes?" She asked, trying to compose herself.
"Do you know what year that was?" He asked, looking her in her eyes.
"I believe it was 1176," she replied.
Claude went quiet for a few seconds. "That was the year Elena died."
"Oh Claude," Hilda said, giving him a hug. "I'm sorry."
"It's...alright," he reassured her as he hugged her back. "I'm glad, though."
"Why is that?" She asked, releasing him.
"It was nice to know that my friend was good friends with Holst and Balthus," Claude replied as his voice perked up. "And to know that there were other people that cared for her."
Hilda shook her head in agreement. "I remember it destroyed my brother and Balthus. They both cared so much about her."
"How did you react?" He asked.
"I don't remember. I just remember being really sad," she replied, crossing her arms and leaning her head against his back. "How about you?"
"I went numb," he replied, letting out a low sigh.
“I’m sorry,” she replied, hiding the tears that she didn’t want him to see.
Silence grew between them, and it was killing Claude the most. He was beginning to relive all the pain he once felt all those years ago, again. Not even the stars were calming him down. The silence was cut short as Hilda’s heels clamping against the dirt as she began to walk away.
“I’m going to bed Claude,” she said with a sigh. “I have had enough sadness to last this lifetime.”
“Yeah,” Claude muttered out as he watched her walk away.
Claude placed his hand on his shoulder, feeling a presence wrapping her arms around his neck.
“Elena, my dear cousin and friend, I know parts of Hilda’s and Holst’s story are true. I hope you and Glenn are reunited and love each other with all your hearts. You were loved,” he sighed out as tears finally rolled down his face.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So a couple of weeks ago I was talking to a friend about OC's and I was being angsty. In 3 Hopes it is stated that Claude has a cousin/Godfrey has a daughter and decided to roll with it. While I was also talking with my friend and I brought up how Claude (Holst's, and Balthus') reaction to his cousins death and how Hilda dealt with it. Just a lot of pain and nothing getting better.

Right now, Good Smile has so many rereleases and preorders that I could theoretically cobble together to make custom Nendoroids for Claude von Riegan and Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd. I am reeeeeeeeeeeally tempted, but I can't just haphazardly throw money at everything right now.
Yesterday, GSC announced rereleases for their Nenodroid Doll customizable faceplates, eyes, heads, and hands. I could get all the Cinnamon versions for Claude's skin tone. If I preorder the optional green eyes, I won't have to stress about drawing them myself. Additionally, the preorder for Rokuya Nagi opened and his hair looks almost like Dimitri's Academy look. Also, Good Smile US's shop's Available Now section has Nendoroid Tanjiro Kamado available, whose hair I recently realized looks the closest to Claude's hairstyle as I can find.
Though...It looks like Claude's post time skip hairstyle, and if Rokuya Nagi looks like Dimitri's Academy version...Then they wouldn't sync. They would be a teenaged Dimitri with an adult Claude... Oh no...Maybe I shouldn't get them at all. ;_; ---Nendoroid Doll Vampire Camus has hair like post time skip Dimitri! He doesn't have any preorders open and isn't Available Now, but maybe I could find him in stock at another store...? But even if I do, he's almost $70. x___x; Maybe it is better to wait for official Claude and Dimitri Nendos.
Even if an official Claude Nendo gets announced later, I'll probably still need a set of dark skin toned hands, since if Claude's official Nendo is his post time skip version, the official Nendo would have gloves. But I'll want to dress him up in outfits that don't have gloves. So the Cinnamon hands will come in handy no matter what happens. Unfortunately, I just realized that is the one color of Nenodroid Doll Hand Sets that they are not rereleasing right now. ;_;
I remember the last time I almost shelled out money to make a custom Nendoroid---almost bought Nendo TM Revolution or Hibiki Kuze for a custom Persona 5 Joker---I held off. And then a few months later, an official Joker Nendoroid was announced. So maybe I should just hold off.
Then again, I had my custom Nendo Kikyo for YEARS before she ever got an official Nendo. Then again, she did eventually get an official Nendo. So maybe if I just wait, I can get a better looking, official Nendo, for any character.
I just realized that if I had gotten the Swacchao Nendoroid Tanjiro Kamado, I could have gotten that hair for Claude at half the price. x_x; The preorder for Swacchao Tanjiro is already closed. ;o;!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, if I go ahead with getting the standard Nendoroid Tanjiro, I'll feel compelled to get Nezuko too. She's also Available Now. And I can't split up the siblings! ;o; I'm a completionist too. x_x. The problem being that each of them are at least $55 each. x________________x;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Maybe all these signs is the universe telling me to not make a custom Claude and Dimitri, and to just WAIT for official Nendoroids for Claude and Dimitri. Maybe they're coming around the corner. I mean, the results for the last "Next Nendoroid Survey" still haven't been announced yet. They announced the voted rereleases, but not the voted new characters. Maybe it takes a long time to get licensing for Fire Emblem? Maybe FE3H is having a long prototype approval process for some reason? Maybe I just shouldn't drop hope in official Nendos, vs buying all this stuff for custom Nendos that won't look exactly like Claude and Dimitri.
...But maybe I could get Nendoroid Doll Vampire Camus after he releases this August; hopefully he'll be in the Available Now section. And maybe I could get Swacchao Tanjiro when he releases this August too; he'll be half the price of the regular Nendoroid Tanjiro. So if I plan to do that in August, then I should right now buy the Nendoroid Doll faceplates and eyes. Or, look through my current facepate collection to see if I already have a Dimitri lookalike---but then he would make custom Claude's Nendo custom eyes stand out too much. I should get both the face and eyes for Dimitri, as well as Claude. And then just wait for August 2022, for hair from Vampire Camus and Swacchao Tanjiro.
It's really too bad they're not rereleasing the Cinnamon Nendo Hands set. I would have bought that either way.

can you make a rec list of your favorite fe3h fics? if that's alright?
OF COURSE I WOULD LOVE TO <3 always happy to give my fave works a shoutout <33333
Though mind u this is going to be a LOT so ill pop them under a cut
from the heart in exile
TLDR: platonic hubert edelgard fic that haunts me. It’s extremely good with really well written character voices and focuses on these two characters trying to find out who they are beyond the war with their friends refusing to leave them behind
Summary:
You can’t speak just yet to whether time—and age? experience? not that war or rulership have given you much of the latter, at least in the area of gardening—has made your thumbs any less brown, but the house in the Oghma Mountains is surrounded by so many growing things it hardly seems to matter. It sits at the edge of a forest, on the gentle lower slopes, and the people in the nearest town had all smiled to speak of it when they pointed the way for Hubert, the day you arrived. A number of them were old enough to remember what it had been like, years ago, in the warm and golden before, and to insist that it had not changed in the ways that mattered. It was still full of light. The air still smelled green.
In which Edelgard keeps a garden, Hubert learns to fly, and those they leave behind refuse to be left behind.
----------------------------------------------
Watchtower
TLDR: platonic fic and amazing sylvain character study. Like genuinely one of the best i’ve ever read. If you’re someone who really wanted a deeper exploration of Sylvain’s feelings about Dimitri this fic is for u.
Summary:
When Sylvain is six and a half and climbs to the top of a tower with no one’s hand in his, he realizes that each and every one of the people he loves has been born as a gift to something else. Dimitri was born for Faerghus, and Felix was born for Dimitri. Glenn was born for the royal family, and Ingrid was born for Galatea and for Glenn. He realizes, too, that what they’re for decides their future. Dimitri will lead them into a better world. Felix will guide his path, and Glenn will protect his life, and Ingrid will bind her future to theirs.
And Sylvain, who was born for the border, will stand in a watchtower. He will see the enemy before it comes, and he will keep Dimitri and Felix and Ingrid and Glenn safe.
Dimitri reappears after five years. Sylvain knows it's his role to fix the mess they're in, but he doesn't know how.
-------------------------------------------
little light
TLDR: really good exploration of flayn and seteth’s relationship (+ with his wife and flayn’s mother) pre canon (also post canon if i remember right) just a really good if heartbreaking family fic
Summary:
"She is beautiful, and she is perfect. It is foolish to say so, because the goddess herself says perfect beings cannot exist - but Cichol knows now she must have been wrong, because his daughter is perfect. They name her Cethleann. In the old tongue, it means 'light.'"
Cichol, Cethleann, what they lost, and who they became.
------------------------------------------
conjure the wind, ease my mind
TLDR: this author in general writes FANTASTIC work so pls check out their whole repertoire. a platonic fic between holst and claude w an exploration of claude’s past that’s just so good....found brotherhood i am WEEPING
Summary:
“I’d like to know what’s wrong. I’d like to help if I can.”
Calculating green eyes lock onto Holst’s own, but this time they’re laced with something a little bit like resignation
Many people call Duke Riegan a liar, but Holst feels like he knows the young man a bit better than that. To call him a liar is wrong, you see, because all Claude has ever really done is master the art of giving up as little of the truth as possible. He keeps truth close, treats it like a valuable commodity.
“I have three brothers,” he says. “Half-brothers.”
***
Claude won’t spar with Holst and Holst wants to know why.
----------------------------------------------
my fellow passerine
TLDR: same author as before and just...god this fic is so good. a platonic exploration of the relationship between Claude and Cyril. This fic has it all: found brotherhood, worldbuilding about Almyra, Claude character study, CYRIL character study. it’s just fantastic
Summary:
Then the Alliance delegation shows up, and their offering strolls through the gates of the monastery like he already owns the place.
A reminder, for those who need it: Cyril is not an idiot. He has good eyes and he uses them.
An observation, for those who want it: The Golden Deer house leader is Almyran.
~
Cyril knows a lot more than he lets on, Claude is far less covert than he thinks he is, and messing with the guy your parents told you was a possibly-unkillable demon-prince isn’t usually supposed to earn you a lasting friendship but hey… life is already pretty damn weird.
-----------------------------------------
Autotomy
TLDR: god this ferdibert fic just fucking...destroys me. i cannot get through it without crying at least twice and usually more. it’s basically a CF canon divergence with a heavy HEAVY exploration of ferdinand and hubert’s perspectives towards usefulness and how abelist thinking affects that in their efforts to find Shambala after Ferdinand loses his sight from one of Hubert’s experimental spells. All while falling in love. this fic is VERY fucking heavy, please mind the tags, it’s amazing but it’s subject matter is something you need to be very aware of. Also i would highly reccomend reading the prequel to this fic as it provides some critical context to Hubert’s actions that you don’t get through Ferdinand’s flawed pov. Basically this author is a master of character perspective.
Summary:
Ferdinand von Aegir's war record ends in 1182. The war does not.
Or, blind man's bluff.
---------------------------------------------
Coming of Age
TLDR: same author as before and god...just my FAVOURITE ferdinand character study. Takes place within the period Byleth is away. I don’t want to spoil anything but it’s incredible. Mines the fantastic character drama hook between Edelgard and Ferdinand that canon DIDNT rip
Summary:
Ferdinand was a general. In theory. Edelgard had promised him continued command of his battalion, and a general needed a certain measure of wealth to supply his horses, his servants, his armor and rations and lodgings and, she’d promised.
But his father sat rotting in a cell, or worse, and it could be nothing more than a fable they thought him simple enough to believe. What did promises matter?
When the house of Aegir collapses around him, Ferdinand struggles to forge a path forward. He quickly discovers he can't manage it alone -- and neither, perhaps, can Edelgard.
------------------------------------------
Another Life
TLDR: same author AGAIN (can u tell theyre my favourite fjsdhfk). Ferdibert fic, a man loving his partner and trying to figure out the best way to support them as they silently wrestle with questions about their gender identity is something that can be so PERSONAL and make u CRY god. also dark flier hubert my beloved.
Summary:
Ferdinand notices things. He cannot say what he notices, precisely, because he has no one to ask, and if he were to ask Hubert it would damn well result in every questioned moment up and vanishing forever behind a new wall of prickly austerity. Ferdinand cannot risk that. The things that he notices stick in his chest, and he thinks only, but.
Hubert wrestles with unasked questions; Ferdinand wrestles with a pegasus.
---------------------------------------------
Beneath the Sheets of Paper Lies My Truth
TLDR: Dimilix fic in my FAVOURITE fucking format of secondary in game historical sources exploring their relationship in retrospective.
Summary:
It was said that Duke Fraldarius’s grief at King Dimitri’s death was more potent than even the queen’s—but said by whom, and how, and why?
-----------------------------------------
A Fair Day’s Work
TLDR: Post CF Canon ferdibert where Hubert and Ferdinand’s overworked aides desperately try to get them together so they’ll be too busy being uhhhh AMOUROUS to give them so much work. Very much a romantic comedy with very fun OCs as our protags.
Summary:
“I may have some coffee in the place for you,” said Prime Minister Aegir. “Let me show you how much better I have become at brewing it to your taste.”
“If you insist,” said Minister Vestra but he sounded pleased. To Delarivier, who had literally made it her profession to attune herself to his tone (usually ranging from sort-of-murder-y to extremely-murder-y), Minister Vestra sounded very pleased indeed.

Ferdinand and Hubert's long-suffering aides figure out a way to work fewer hours.

TLDR: Dimilix post AM Canon with some pre canon moments. Basically an exploration of the complexity of their relationship with bird symbolism and extra Holy Kingdom lore. Gifting ur lover a vulture is something that can be so personal fksdhfsjkd
Summary:
Dimitri makes an affirmative noise. Then he takes a breath, voice leveling out into what Felix had long ago dubbed his 'future king voice', all steady explanation: “Long ago, the saying fledged right along with the nobles' and royal family's love of hawking, and it has remained a common phrase from one generation to the next. As adviser to the king, the duke is meant to be regal and strong, even deadly when required, from his place at the king's side. To always act as the most piercing, watchful eyes over the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and her sovereign."
He looks over to Felix as soon as his mouth snaps shut on the final word, as always seeking approval on his recitations.
Felix tilts his head, trying to look unimpressed. “I like eagles.”
A hand automatically comes up to cover the lower half of Dimitri's face, muffling the inarticulate sound of a snort of amusement. “That is good, since you are to be mine.”

A faint and faraway sound
TLDR: Ferdibert with an excellent Hubert centric character study....just so good...makes me warm and fuzzy...the mutual pining and ROMANCE of it all
Summary:
Hubert learns to be a person, with a lot of help and complication along the way.

In golden light
TLDR: A really REALLY good ferdibert fic with ferdinand centric pov that focuses on him reflecting on his life as he prepares the Aegir house to become a boarding school. Ferdinand sibling exploration is ABOUND here and it’s great
Summary:
When his family's summer home at Lake Aegir is set to be converted to a boarding academy, Ferdinand pays it one last visit and contemplates his complicated relationship with family, love, and legacy.

one three four three four zero
TLDR: the fic that actually got me into dimilix. VERY heavy character study and you NEED to mind both the general fic tags and the content warnings the author lists for each chapter but it’s incredible. Takes a very familiar trope and just. slams you in the face with over 60k words of amazing character study.
Summary:
“How are you going to get the One-Eyed Demon of Garreg Mach, the Boar Prince of Faerghus, smuggled past Dukedom soldiers? What plan could you possibly have to get a creature that incapable of even pretending it isn’t a bloodthirsty beast into Dominic without getting caught?”
The Professor gives him one of their steady, unreadable stares. They definitely do not and could not possibly have answered him, “You’re going to pretend to be married to him.”

Claude-or Khalid for that matter-keeps many things to himself.
Despite the years you two have lived together; seeing another war happen, slaying your friends, your professor housing a god inside of their body, and marrying your house leader.
Oh gods, marrying your house leader.
You could never imagine living a married life with the Duke of Riegan. You still remember the time you and Claude pranked Seteth rearranging his entire office or the time you spiked Lorenz's special tea blends with stomach poisons. That's what it just is-you thought-prank partners that just wanted to have fun in the stuffy halls of Garreg Mach. A close ally when the burdens of war were too much. A friend when he had slain an old classmate.
A spouse to the King of Unification.
You were sure that the times you two spent together had solidified your bond with the mysterious man. Even when you two are happily married, there were some secrets that he'd still kept from you. Such as his true name. It honestly surprised you that Nader was the one who, albeit drunkenly, stated that Khalid von Riegan was his real name. Not even the newly-appointed Archbishop would tell you, or rather that they don't have much to tell you.
Heartbreaking talk aside, you accepted that Khalid would let his secrets out when he wanted it.
Right now, you have your husband with you as he finally announced to you that he was going to bed.
Him being the new Duke would lead him to travel across different places where inequality of different races are still apparent. His hard work had taken too much of a toll on his sleep schedule. With bags under his eyes and a stiffness on his shoulders, you tried to coerce your husband to rest.
You tried to ask Judith and she had prepared a basket full of exotic bath salts, flower petals, and oils that seemed to be worth more than your life. With your husband now with you, your night can finally go how you wanted it to go.
If only he didn’t take up half the space of the tub.
You nudged the knees jutting out of the water with your foot. “Give some space, hun, I want to get in the tub with you.”
He pouted his lips at you, looking at you using those puppy eyes that he would always use when he was in trouble. “But aziz-am, I thought this was my night?”
You remembered the pet name he said as you huffed. Taking a bottle full of scented oil, you poured a few drops in the water. It mixed with the bath salts and the flower petals that you added. The yellow petals were highlighted against the shimmering water as the heat from the candles were giving a warm feeling across your body. Along with the pecs that were floating above the water, the water sure looks inviting right now.
Kneeling down next to the tub, you leaned towards Khalid as you kissed his cheek. “You don’t want your spouse next to you in the tub?”
You continued to repeatedly kiss his cheek before leaning down to plant kisses to his neck. “You don’t want to see your lovely spouse naked in the bath with you?”
Khalid groaned slightly from above you as his fists tightened at the sides of the tub. Before you knew it, he dragged you inside the tub, not even minding the water splashing over the tub as you gasped at your clothes becoming wet.
“Why, you shouldn’t have darling!” He said above your panicked splashing. “You know me so well!”
You stuck your tongue at him, flicking a flower petal towards his face before stripping yourself of your wet clothes. It was a hassle due to it clinging to your skin but Khalid's appreciative hum made it all worth it.
With you completely naked, you leaned against the opposite end of the tub and glanced at Khalid's expectant stare. You raise one brow before gesturing to the empty space in front of you.
Like a child, he immediately went over to your side, water splashing about as he nestled himself on your chest. "Now this is the night that I deserve."
You flicked some water at him before massaging his temples. The oils made your hands smoother so it was easier to glide over his skin. He gave a relaxed groan, inching further to your body. Once his eyes closed, you drifted down from his head to his neck and shoulders where you knew most of his knots were at.
Feeling the tension, you worked them away as Khalid moaned at the sensation. "Gods, have I mentioned how much I love you?"
Your heart fluttered at his words before planting a kiss on his temple. "Every time you try to weasel yourself out of my wrath."
What came out of his mouth was either a laugh or a groan as his hand pinched the inside of your thigh. "Ease up on the insults or else I might just start tearing up on my special night."
You scoffed, wrapping your arms around Khalid's waist. "Oh hush, you big baby."
"Correction," he said before his hands covered your own, "I'm your fawn."
You giggled at his deer-related joke of the week before leaning against the tub once more. He gently exited from your hold before leaning above you, trapping you against the side as you stared up at viridian eyes that were full of hunger.
"I thought I was treating you?" You asked, already feeling the arousal welling up within you.
"You are treating me." He replied before planting a soft kiss on your lips. Almost uncharacteristic of him before leaving a nibble on your bottom lip. "You're my feast for this evening."
A shot of arousal spiked through your abdomen. Before you could say another word, he kissed you fully, making sure you feel his tongue move against yours as he moved around so that you were sitting on his lap. You felt the hard press of his cock against your inner thigh as you moaned.
Thus the night continued on.
---
With your body still oh-so pleasantly thrummed with euphoria, you laid back against the soft sheets of the bed as you looked at Khalid. Well, the back of Khalid, but the fact that he was soundly asleep next to you brought your mind peace.
Your eyes honed in on the healed scars that littered across his back. Some were already healed and were left as pale lines in contrast to his skin. Others still ran deep (you tried to ignore the most recent ones courtesy of your nails), almost deadly when you realize that he could've died hadn't Marianne or the Professor got to him in time.
Some scars, you realized, that you weren't there to see.
You recounted the times that Khalid had scarcely stated his past. Most of the time, it was said in jest. Others, it was either in mysterious phrases that only Khalid seemed to know. You knew that he had a tough time as a child due to him being a half-Almyran, even more so as an adult. His dream of unifying the rest of the countries was a steep one but one that Khalid was determined to conquer. Even though he had left you after his proposal at the Goddess Tower, you had continued to support his dream where you are. Any help that you do to support his dream is enough for you.
Remembering those moments, you sighed happily into your pillow, happy that you were able to help his dream. You inched closer to his back, wanting to feel his warmth as you’ll sleep with your husband. You lifted an arm to wrap around his waist for you to feel his body.
The jolt that followed had you fully awake. Khalid was fully sitting up, body trembling as his hand searched for something underneath his pillow. Your arm shot out to try and calm him down but he didn’t seem to register that you were touching him.
You looked at his face, trying to ask him what was wrong until you saw his eyes. His verdant eyes that you’ve loved so much were shrunken and shaky. Looking at his arm, which was still busy trying to find whatever was under his pillow, you held his shoulders as you sat up. “Khalid?”
He didn’t hear you. He continued to shakily reach out for whatever he was searching under his pillow. You felt sweat running down his face and neck as your heart palpitated. With no other option, you struggled to sit on his lap as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders.
With your forehead pressed against his, you yelled his name. When he flinched, you yelled his name once more, shaking him off of his episode as tears welled in your eyes.
Is this what Khalid had to go through for so long?
How long had he had to protect himself even from sleeping?
The tears flowed freely now, crying his name when his shaking stopped. His eyes slowly became focused now as they stared back at your own. His hand was still under his pillow but his other hand was suspended in the air.
Your hand moved to smooth his cheek. “Khalid… You’re safe.”
His breathing was still uneven but he seemed to respond to you now as both of his arms wrapped around your body. He didn’t say anything.
You pushed back his matted hair and kissed his forehead. “You’re safe, Khalid.”
One last breath out of Khalid before he relaxed into your hold. He held that small moment of peace before he leaned back with you, his back hitting the bed. He held his arms tighter around you, finally relaxed from his trauma but not wanting to let go of you quite yet.
Your husband is safe with you.
“You’re safe with me, Khalid. Now rest.”
