#I also thought that having Numa as a “main” character was super interesting

Watched Society of the Snow with my (Spanish) best friend today.
I liked it. Kinda wish I could have watched it knowing nothing about the story but yeah, no chance. Whispering trivia to my friend and seeing what they chose to cut was interesting too.
I liked how Uruguayan the characters were. They say bo and ta, and the first thing they dream of eating is chivito. Payan to pass the time... That and an irrational hate towards Ethan Hawke was what made me like this movie more tbh
My 2 favourite things were probably the heavy Catholic imagery (I haven't been Catholic since I was 10 and was forced to go to mass in order to take my communion but. It's definitely a big part of the story) and the casting choice for Nando Parrado. A+ on that one even if the actor is Argentinian jaja

1rst question: Is there a word limit for this event. I thought there was one and now I can’t find it.
2nd question: Where would clone wars main or background charcters come in. For example, one of my pitches is Ton Phannan MD, and having him treat various pacients in the rebelion, between Hoth and his injury during the battle of Endor. If I decided to have one of his pacients be Clone Trooper Boil, whose wookiepedia history is split down the middle between canon and non - canon. (I’d like to know before I post it to the Waxer Boil discord group.)
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Boil/Legends
I was also going to have him be accompanied by Numa, both obviously older.
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Numa/Legends
3rd question: I’m assuming you’re not going for fixits for this event, but legends canon compliant stories. So as an example, Biggs Darklighter surviving the Death Star run would be to much of a legends canon divergence. So the charcter Waxer who died in the legends part of Clone Wars would be to much of a fixit.
First — thank you for the ask! We’re excited that folks are interested in this event and want to know more details.
First question: Yes, as mentioned toward the beginning of the Overview post, the target length for fics is between 5,000 - 10,000 words.
Second question: Clone Wars is, as you mention, a bit murky given that it sort of straddles Legends and new canon. In general, it’s fine to use Clone Wars characters from Legends in your fic as long as they were conceivably still alive during the timeframe for this event (six months prior to the Battle of Yavin through six months after the Battle of Endor). For our purposes, “Legends-era Clone Wars” would be anything from Clone Wars that was released prior to the establishment of the old EU as Star Wars Legends; if the character has a “Legends” Wookieepedia tab and was alive during the 6 months BBY - 5 ABY timeframe, they’re eligible.
In terms of character details, if you want to add flavor by using details we learned about them in new canon, that’s okay as long as it doesn’t contradict anything from their Legends characterization or backstory. So for instance, Wedge Antilles appears in both Legends and in new canon, but for this event you’d want to use the version of his backstory that we hear in Legends, not the version we see in Star Wars Rebels.
Third question: This really comes down to what is in the spirit of the event: to tell stories of the OT time period “from a Legends point of view,” that is, from the perspectives of Legends characters and events. In general, we’d advise being very careful with anything you’d think of as a “fix-it,” as the purpose isn’t so much to fix or change the story as it is to tell stories of the OT era from different perspectives (or to tell new stories about characters who only get a passing mention or moment in the OT, or who show up in later Legends materials but were alive and active during the OT).
As we mention in the FAQ for the event, some canon divergence for this event is okay, and we’re not going to be super strict about adherence to Legends canon in many cases, especially for those moments that happen in the books or comics that often contradicted one another. However, a fix-it where someone who clearly died before the OT in Legends is now back from the dead would not be in the spirit of the event. And we’re definitely stricter about events that we see onscreen in the movies; stories in which Biggs or Porkins survives the Death Star run, where Dak survives Hoth, where the Rebels don’t get caught in a trap on Endor the first time they try to take down the shield generator, would be outside the guidelines. There are ways to incorporate your faves that could still fit, however — If you want a surviving clone to remember their squadmate Waxer, or Luke and Wedge to swap Biggs Darklighter stories that happened before the OT, for instance.
If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to let us know!

Author Interview Game
thanks @kckenobi for tagging me!!
Name: Daisy
Fandoms: Star Wars
Where you post: Tumblr and AO3! I tend to post the same things to both.
Most Popular Oneshot: all things die
which definitely makes sense to me since it’s about obi-wan
Most popular multichap: as i have always been is the one and only i have, so that one! i haven’t updated in..... an embarrassingly long time, but who knows i might finish it someday.
Favorite story you’ve written: ooh, tie between all things die and ghosts. ghosts is about numa reflecting back on the clone wars and waxer and boil and it makes me super sad everytime i reread it, and idk there are some lines i wrote in that fic that i’m still in love with
Fic you were nervous to post: oh, for sure more than the dead. i was TERRIFIED bc it was my introduction into writing fanfiction lol. i was also really nervous about all things die because it was the first time i’d focused on obi-wan and i wanted to get it right.
How you choose your titles: two ways usually. one is i find it as i’m writing the story, ghosts for example. other way is a quote that i like/feel applies to the story—technically two of my fics are called let’s hang out sometime and in the hands of the enemy bc whumptober, but in my head they’re called “but i have promises to keep” and “and miles to go before i sleep.” as i have always been was unique bc it’s an episode title from a tv show i really like that i thought applied to the story, haha
Do you outline? not really. for the multichap fic i tend to write out a summary of what i want to happen as i start writing each chapter but there’s no overarching outline usually. although, for one fic i’m working on it has an outline of sorts bc it’s kind of a mystery
Complete: 6! all of my stuff is oneshot except the one multichap that i haven’t finished.
In progress: as i have always been is the only posted one that’s in progress, but i have a bunch of barely-started fics that i haven’t posted. the one i’m most excited for is look to your kingdoms, about the whole squad (anakin, obi, ahsoka, rex, cody, padme) plus HANDMAIDENS dealing with a crisis on naboo :)
coming soon/not yet started: i have a million fic ideas that i will probably never write, including one where padme goes back for shmi (i would read that one since i doubt i’ll ever actually write it!!). i also have a fix it fic that’s been started where anakin just kills palpatine instead of not doing it, and then i’ll probably focus on the whole squad but specifically rex and ahsoka going on “wrapping up the war” adventures! just talking about that one is making me excited so it’s probably moving up on my wip list now. i’ve also got one that’s going to be ahsoka and the clones bonding, i think it’ll be in oneshot format but i’m not sure yet.
Prompts: i’ve never taken prompts before! i just started writing and so i get kind of nervous about it (what if i just can’t get it to be good?) but i’m thinking about starting to do them soon! i love reading other people’s fics from prompts so
Upcoming work you’re most excited about: look to your kingdoms!!!!! it’s the crisis on naboo one. i’ve gotten really interested in the handmaidens lately bc i think they’re so cool, and while they won’t be the main main characters i think it’ll be a fun story. also, padme and anakin being disasters, rex cody and ahsoka bonding, obi-wan and padme bonding! i’m excited :)
no pressure tags: i’m super late and have no idea who’s done this already so tagging anyone who wants to!!

Shotaro Ishinomori - The Man Who Created Heroes My review of the biographical TV special about the life of the King of Manga, Shotaro Ishinomori! So, I woke up really early this morning to watch the Shotaro Ishinomori Drama Special. Since I already made the effort, I thought I should write a review about it. So what I was expecting from this bio picture? Something close to GeGeGe no Nyobo, an early morning soap opera about the life of Shigeru Mizuki's wife. Of course, once Mizuki is introduced, the plot all goes around him, even if the show is still told from the perspective of his wife. The show is not about historical accuracy, but it's an entertaining watch to get a glimpse of some of the most important aspects of a famous mangaka's life. In some ways, this Ishinomori special is not so different, but incredibly more fast-paced due to being more of a feature-length film instead of a year-long morning drama. While I didn't necessarily dislike the special, there was nothing new here for me to learn. And I'm almost sure the parts that caught me by surprise were purely fictional. For those who've never heard the Ishinomori story, maybe this would be a decent enough introduction. As a long-time fan, I would like something deeper, but I don't think this special was made only for fans like me, but for casual viewers as well. And what would most casual viewers think of Ishinomori? He's the guy who created Kamen Rider, of course. And the movie makes this sound like the absolute high point of his career. Which is something that bothered me a bit, since I don't like how it perpetuates this idea Ishinomori was the "super-hero" guy. Such a versatile artist and writer should be admired for mastering all sorts of different genres and for what a huge influential figure he was for manga as a whole. But maybe I was expecting a little too much for a special called "Man Who   Created Heroes"? Still, the omission of titles like Ryujin Numa, Sarutobi Ecchan, Sabu and Ichi (other than a very brief scene which is not even about the manga itself, but more like "Look, Shotaro's manga is in bookstores!"), the Ryu trilogy and other important landmarks of Ishinomori's career, titles which he held very close to his heart, is something I just can't look over. Instead, it focuses on the commercial success of his TV series, which is already being celebrated every year anyway with the Kamen Rider franchise and its many theatrical releases. To give some perspective, even Cyborg 009 is barely mentioned in the film outside of a few brief scenes like Ishinomori coming up with the characters and learning about cyborgs in Life Magazine! Now, let's talk about the positives, so I can end this review on a high note! Well, the acting is fun, everyone does a good performance and they all seem to having a great time! The drama is pretty soft, which is not a bad thing, this is mostly a "feel good" film, even if it depicts some of the most traumatic moments in Ishinomori's life like the disapproval of his father to his career choice and, of course, the death of his beloved older sister, Yoshie, who was his greatest inspiration for drawing. It was already mentioned in the movie's pre-production that the plot would focus on Ishinomori's relationship with his sister, which feels right when it comes to a bio-pic about Shotaro  Ishinomori. However, I don't really like how they tried to tie Yoshie somehow with the origin of Kamen Rider, but I already made my point about that. The other artists from the Tokiwa-So apartments are all great and the movie does a good job portraying them as this big family, especially one of Ishinomori's best friends, the king of gag manga, Fujio Akatsuka! Also, it makes sure you will recognize these guys by showing their most iconic creations right in front of you. Now, about my favorite part of the film. It's Osamu Tezuka's role in it! This is precisely the main reason I would like people getting into Ishinomori to watch this film. How secondary Tezuka's involvement was in Ishinomori's life. For many, it seems impossible to quote one without the other, and Ishinomori constantly lives in the shadow of the God of Manga, which I always thought it was very unfair, not including rumors like "Tezuka taught Ishinomori everything he knew". Well, this film makes very clear how Ishinomori learned to draw manga by himself and that's what made him get the a letter from Tezuka himself inviting him to come to Tokyo to help him with Astro Boy/Tetsuwan Atom. In these scenes, Tezuka is not even present, he's running away from his editors while Ishinomori is asked to do the job in his place. Whenever Tezuka is in a  scene, he's cold and distant, nothing like Ishinomori's Tokiwa-So companions like Fujio Akatsuka,  Hiro Terada and the Fujiko Fujio duo.  And it also ends the rumors about Tezuka ever living in the apartment at the same time as Ishinomori, and his presence there is always depicted as a huge event. Also, it shows very clearlly how Tezuka was in the wrong about the whole Fantasy World Jun incident, with Ishinomori's friends and admirers of Tezuka making clear what he did was wrong. The scene where Tezuka comes to apologize to Ishinomori is depicted similar to Ishinomori's manga retelling of the same story! Another interesting aspect I liked and would have liked to seen more is Ishinomori relationship with his family. It's no surprise Ishinomori was obsessed with his work and barely had time for his family, but the movie makes it clear that was it a struggle for Ishinomori himself. We don't get to see many interactions between him and his wife Toshiko, but his sons Jo and Akira are a constant presence in the film's final act. One especially bittersweet scene is when Ishinomori picks a book of Jo's school records and sees a drawing depicting him and his family going to the amusement park all together. He quickly realizes: "But we never went to an amusement park...". That was one scene that stuck a cord with me, and by the end of the film, Ishinomori takes his sons to watch the filming of a Kamen Rider episode. There's a very emotional scene that fans of Ishinomori's  heroes will certainly appreciate. Overall, these are my thoughts on this special. While it was not perfect, I'm happy it was made and I hope Ishinomori's legacy will live on for many decades to come!
