the fact that mike didn't let dustin touch will or let any of them even attempt to comfort him on halloween night is so telling... if he'd done that to just max that'd be understandable, because she's the new girl + outsider, but dustin and lucas?
the boys they've known since forever? the og party members? the other two guys who heard him out and helped him even when they thought he was just sick with grief after seeing will's body pulled from the river? he's going to say that to dustin, who stuck by his side and believed him no matter what? to lucas, who went to the gate on his own to find will, armed with nothing but his own bravery and his wrist rocket? lucas, who was so upset and angry that week only because he felt like mike was wasting time they could've otherwise used to find will? dustin and lucas, the two boys who stuck with him through everything and who almost died with him for it?
they're the other half of the party. if anyone is going to help him with will, it would be them! if anyone is going to understand and genuinely care, it's them! undoubtedly!
and yet... mike makes caring for will his role. his privilege. his duty. it's his thing that only him and no one else ever gets to do or share with him.
when lucas gets hurt, mike doesn't push dustin away—it's not something that even crosses his mind. he lets them both fret over him and instead turns on eleven to express his disappointment. when eleven gets hurt, mike tends to her, lets others tend to her, and asks others for help, too. when he's helping someone, he generally welcomes any extra hands and guidance he can get because he wants whoever it is to be well.
the same cannot be said for will.
he always goes after him. he always makes sure to permanently plant himself by will's side, like in the entirety of s2, in s3 when he always stayed near will in action sequences (excl. starcourt) or sat with him whenever the party was grouped up, and in s4 when he again held will back and put his arm over him in the shootout. (i can't even say that s1 breaks this pattern, because he spent that entire season looking for him and never losing sight of that.) he always keeps an eye on him, checks in on him, and wants to be the person that will turns to and entrusts with everything. he has always been this way, has never stopped being this way, and he has never once shown this level of care and attention to anyone else. this is specifically a will thing and it's different from the way that he cares about and treats others, including eleven.
he seeks help only if it's something he himself can't remedy on his own—like the d'art issue. he accepts help only if it's from one of will's family members, because obviously they take precedence. even then, however, judging by how he shoehorned himself into their home in s2 and stayed for the shed scene, it's safe to say that he still feels he needs and deserves to be there in some way, too.
we even have canonical evidence that supports this and suggests that mike views will as someone separate and special to him in a way that no one else is. recall: "the last year has been weird, you know? and i mean, you know, max and lucas and dustin, they’re… they’re great. they’re great. it’s just… […] it’s not the same without you.”
like... i just think it's so fascinating and tragic that everyone keeps pushing mike back to eleven, when his relationship with her makes him feel inferior to her, enough that he can't even call himself the lois to her superman, and like he's some random useless nerd with nothing to offer. he knows that she doesn't need him, knows that she's been lying to him - which suggests a lack of trust in him, and maybe even doubts that she even wants him anymore after "from, el". and he stays in this relationship! because he thinks it's what he deserves! he thinks this is what relationships are like! but will...
will makes him feel needed, understood, and loved. will makes him feel like superman. not because he has any powers, but just because of who he is, because of how fiercely he loves, and because of how brave and smart he always is. will loves his nerdiness, considers it his strength even, and paints him a portrait that shows just that—a reminder for if he ever dares forget. will looks at him and loves everything that he sees, and makes sure that mike knows it, too. will hears him without mike ever needing to say anything at all. he knows mike and he loves him and he makes it known. he doesn't let mike forget and he doesn't shut him down.
in turn, mike views will as his equal, his teammate, and his best of best friends. he cares about will not out of necessity, because this is a role given to him by others, or because the fate of the world depends on it, but because he wants to and it's how they've always been. they're the cleric and the paladin: will is forever going to do his best to heal the bruises on mike's heart and mike is forever going to do whatever he can to protect will.
mike gets upset when he thinks that will hasn't paid enough attention to him (see: rink-o-mania) and he gets upset when someone else tries to comfort will, because he feels that's his place (see: halloween). he wants that to be their thing and only their thing.
in s1 dustin says that lucas is mike's best friend. if mike is this devoted to will, to the point that others are worried about him at times, then what does that make will to him? if, as s4 showed us, going after someone without hesitation even when it's dangerous, stupid, and the odds of success are stacked against you, is a sign of true love, then... what is will? mike took it so personally any time someone slighted will to the point that he physically fought back for once. he almost died to save will multiple times. in s1 everyone thinks he's been acting weird or hurting because of him, but then they see that eleven is a girl and they chalk it up to that instead and inadvertently push him in that direction.
i'm not saying that mike knew what his feelings were in s1, especially since he couldn't even describe what romance was to eleven before he kissed her, but i do think that his feelings were there and confirmed tenfold by season four. whatever will is to him, "it's not the same" and we've always been shown that.

Do you think Mike was internally freaking out or filed with angst when he read El’s letter about Will painting a lot/being weird and maybe its for a girl he likes. I wonder if he thought about what she wrote when he saw Will carrying the painting or handing the painting to him.
See, that's just the thing! I don't know for sure. They start out the episode telling you this, showing you that Mike has read this letter and remembers its contents, and then when he gets to the airport he acts extremely weird about it. The expression that he puts on--purposely and intentionally devoid of emotion and extremely cautious--makes it seem like he's bracing himself for something. It's different to the one he had when he first greeted Will. It's deliberate.
On my first watch, I'd immediately assumed that he was acting that way because of what Eleven had said, but then Finn and the Duffers kept repeating that Mike is completely and totally oblivious so now I'm unsure.
They show you one thing on the show and then tell you another. Given how they backtracked with the whole "actually we were just kidding about Will being ambiguous lol he's been gay and in love with Mike the whole time hehe you were right<3" thing, it makes me feel like they're going to do that again next season with that scene. It just... doesn't make sense to me. We SAW him read the letter, then Will shows up to the airport with a wrapped up painting, and Mike is acting extremely sus about it. We're just... not supposed to think anything of it? I don't buy it.
I think Mike was definitely internally freaking out when he first saw it. He said that he felt like he'd lost Will and that the past year had been weird as a result because Hawkins just wasn't the same without him. We know that he's felt Will's absence terribly and that he tried to reach out but couldn't. Honestly, I think his heart started beating, and pounding, and threatening to jump right out of his chest when he saw that painting in Will's hands. Why else would he have gotten all choked up, nervous, looking at him like a deer caught in the headlights?
Will's artwork is hung up all around Mike's basement; he has a binder full of his drawings; we even see some posted in his room still. That isn't even mentioning just how awed and enamored he looked when Will did finally give it to him. Compare that to how easily and thoughtlessly he threw away what could've been the last thing El ever gave or said to him. In just a few seconds, they show you how much Mike values the gifts he receives from them both. We know how Mike feels.
Given how braced he was in that moment, I'm betting that Mike probably had a fleeting moment of doubt where he felt like maybe he hadn't lost Will after all, but when Will emotionally pulled away and didn't give him the painting, he closed himself off again, too, and that added to why he was so hurt and petty and angry with Will at Rink-O-Mania. He let himself have a glimmer of hope only for it to immediately be squandered. Again.
As for when he does finally receive it, I think we have to consider just how much Will had been reassuring him about Eleven and the fact that at that point it'd already been revealed that she was lying in her letters to him. He had no reason to believe that Will would ever lie to him, just as he had no reason to believe this would be Eleven's one truth. As such, I think he's so overjoyed and blown away by the painting, that he doesn't pause to consider that Eleven has never been interested in DnD (and as a result wouldn't know about this dragon that is a common figure in his drawings of their party, the specifics of their roles, or probably what a coat of arms even is).
It's an unfortunate situation all around, but one that's 100% going to blow up in their faces to give us that juicy, yummy byler drama. >:)

long list of funny things abt my experience doing emote commissions for mike
first of all I wasn't expecting to get commissioned at all (my commissions weren't even open, I just made an exception for mike) let alone by MIKETHELINK of all fucking people, so I had nothing prepared. I had no portfolio, commission sheet, nothing. I had never made any twitch emotes, so I had no examples to show either. meaning that when barbmine showed up in my dms asking if I took emote commissions, first I lost my fucking shit, then I panicked and rushed to find the most recent emote-like illustrations I had, including animation, and the most recent animation I had on hand happened to be a viewtiful joe one lmao. the animation in question 👇

I have some experience taking commissions but they'd always been for friends of mine, this was my first time getting commissioned by a real "client" and the client was fucking mikethelink tazercraft of all fucking people . I know he "found" me through Mine, she sent me a dm first asking for commission info, saying she would show it to mike later. the thing is that when she said that she also implied that she was in touch with other artists too, so I was like "oh ok I'll send my stuff but I probably won't get chosen lol" and then a few hours later I got two twitter notifs, one saying that mr. thelink tazercraft was now following me and another was his DM. to say I almost had a heart attack would be an understatement
later I found out Mine had made a tweet asking for artists to reach out/people to rec artists for mike's twitch emotes. that post had around 40 comments. many people had been recommended more than once. I wasn't mentioned by anyone once, and in fact, I had no fucking idea that post even EXISTED until way after the fact. I have no idea how I ended up getting this job
mike happened to contact me on a day where I was severely sleep deprived. our entire business conversation took place while I was half-panicking, half-almost-passing-out. I don't know how I survived
at many points during our conversation I gave a lot of leeway for mike to give up on commissioning me, implying multiple times that he would be better off commissioning a different artist. and it's not because I lacked confidence (though a bit of that too, of course), but because of my lack of experience. I was very open about that to him, so many times I expected him to second guess his decision to commission me. unexpectedly, he was really insistent. I think partially he didn't want to go through the trouble of finding and contacting a different artist, but also I guess he just liked my art that much (??!?)
I definitely undercharged him lol. it's not that I don't value my work, it's just that I was absolutely not prepared for any of this shit to happen and didn't have enough time to think
I use adobe after effects for animating mike's emotes. I already knew how to animate (though I had never animated anything big), but I had never used after effects before. I even told mike this before accepting the commission, but he just said it was easy and I could totally do it, and I was just like "fucking hell. fine". and look, I know my limits, I knew I'd be able to learn after effects with relative ease. if I thought it'be too much for me to handle, I wouldn't have accepted the commission. it just that to this day I'm still shocked that mike commissioned an artist who HAD NEVER USED THE TOOL NECESSARY FOR THE COMMISSION HE WANTED.
due to the point above I was pretty apprehensive about animating the emotes, but now I'm glad I got this opportunity bc it reignited my passion for animation that had been dwindling for a long time and I've been learning a lot while working. also with every new emote I figure out how to use a different feature of after effects and it makes the job a little bit easier
before giving my payment information I came out to him to avoid confusion with my legal name being different from the name on my socials. he was very chill about it and always used the right name and pronouns for me whenever he mentions me on stream
fun fact: I was reached out to by another big (brazilian, not in qsmp) youtuber for a commission but I had to refuse because I had too much on my plate already (still do..)

I made his twitch avatar and banner too! I'm really proud of the avatar. the banner was absolute hell

Funniest mileven arguments to why byler won’t be endgame
I’m sorry if there’s any grammar errors or mistakes, I wrote this angrily at 2 am when I couldn’t sleep.
1. “Its the 80’s”- as if there isn’t any movies that have happy queer endings that were made/set in the 80’s, yall are just lazy and don’t want to actually do any research.
2. “It’s a Netflix original”- ok? And? Like we literally get a new mlm/queer show on Netflix every year, byler is a mlm relationship which Netflix has a lot of, young royals, heartstopper??? Are you guys ok?
3. “Cuz it’s too popular” - we already have over two queer confirmed characters in stranger things, the show that’s about fighting forced conformity ?? The show that focuses on nerds, losers and people that don’t ‘fit in’ ? And y’all find it so hard to see ur two main characters being gay? Read the room respectfully.
4. “It’s one sided” - if it was one sided they would make Mike tell Will he doesn’t like him in s3 and give Will a new love interest in s4 (it has been confirmed that there will be no new characters in s5 and that the producers want every character to have their ‘perfect ending’) Will believed he was a mistake and thought he wouldn’t fall in love, because he is queer so he most definitely will have a queer love interest and it will be Mike.
5. “Mike is in love with el”- is he tho? He never actually said he loved her to her face without the world and her life depending on it, he’s been pressured to say it twice and when she told him she loves him back the man didn’t look happy but conflicted.
6. “Mileven endgame” - it’s really not, the amount of symbolism that points to their downfall (such as everyone calling them the ‘star crossed lovers’ which are basically lovers deemed to fail, and more) is HUGE, they have too many familial parallels it’s insane, why parallel the it couple with family themes and relationships? Another problem I have with this it’s the fact that it’s very rare for the first ‘original’ pairings to stay together till the end of the show (like with Bob and Joyce or Steve and Nancy)
7. “Byler wouldn’t make sense to the plot”- watch the show again, just because somethings more subtle, doesn’t mean it’s not there, y’all will always say that about queer relationships but whenever u guys see a straight relationship in these subtle moments you jump into conclusions that they might end up together, it’s called being a hypocrite.
8. “Mike isn’t gay” - it’s what he’s been telling himself too, the guy was obviously made fun of and called slurs like Will, everyone already thought and knew their relationship was ‘special’ and everyone suspected something, that’s why Mikes own dad was surprised and said “our son, with a girl?” Also your so called straight Mike has a room filled with pictures and posters of buff men, he’s never shown any interest in girls or women (except el who’s been said, looked like a boy in s1) not to mention the first song on his official Spotify playlist being “small town boy” (yk the song about a young gay man running away from his homophobic small town??).
9. Mikes love confession- if u call that a love confession I wouldn’t wanna date u brother, he was pushed to say ily by Will, the same Will that was in the frame of Mike lying when he said that his life “started” when he found El in the woods, which was obviously a lie because Mike called El a weapon and said he’ll “send her back to pennhurst or wherever she comes from” after they found her, also if the love confession was honest why would El be still upset with Mike and not talk to him after??
10. “El wasn’t upset at Mike but was sad about Max” - me when I’m in denial, she wasn’t sad about Max until she found the coke bottle underneath her bed, then we get the flashbacks of her and Max having fun in s3, she wasn’t thinking abt Max before that, its called common sense and logical thinking skills.
11. “There would be no time for byler to develop in s5” - it might seem crazy what I’m about to say, they were literally childhood best friends and it’s been confirmed that Will had a crush on Mike since s1, they literally started to build their romantic relationship MORE in s4, with all the ‘[emotional, tender music playing]’ and parallels between byler and jancy, also even if they haven’t started to build their relationship up in a romantic way in s4, y’all remember how in less than a season Jonathan and Nancy slept together or how Max and Lucas got together in a spawn of a season (mind u they met in the same season). Byler knows each other since little kids and always had potential y’all are just in denial.
12. “Why make Mike queer” - why not? Do y’all actually believe that one of the main characters plot line is just about getting with the girl at the end? Even if it was (which lets be so fr now) why would Mike get with El from the first season (they kissed in s1 and basically u can count that as they’re together wtv) if that was his main goal as a character? Well written shows have something called a “character development” which the producers of st love apparently, so why make Mike just a bland character that just gets with the main girl character, and why have El date the first guy she ever met, I just think it would be very shallow.
That’s all, this was written in a silly way cuz it’s basically me talking to myself, it’s okay if u ship mileven I just really don’t like disrespectful fans that yell at bylers and call the ship disgusting, I don’t care about what who ships as long as we all just have fun and not yell at each other 🫶🏻

you can count on one hand how many times carmy has called you by your real name. his go-to pet names are honey (he would say hon most often), baby (when he's trying to persuade you, when he’s whining about something, or when he feels guilty), and sweetheart (when he's feeling extra romantic and lovey-dovey). even when you two are fighting or on the very rare occasion that his anger's directed at you, he rarely uses your name
one time when you had stayed over, you left your shampoo at carm's place and he made mistake of using it just to try it out because the next day richie noticed
"did you rob a fuckin' hair salon, cousin?"
"what the fuck do you mean, richie?"
"the fuck do you mean? what is this shit, herbal essences?" richie says, sniffing carmy's hair.
poor boy would turn red from head to toe and never touch your anything of yours ever again
this one's sad but like- it's kinda important i think
obviously mike's death really fucked carmy up. you see him pushing away, detaching himself from the people who love him (just like mikey did). but you coming into his life really forces him to wake the fuck up. family is forever but you're something in carmy's life that isn't guaranteed and that he genuinely has to work for if he wants you around long-term
and he's so terrified to fuck it up but after you assure him over and over again that you don't intend to go anywhere he starts to loosen up a tiny bit and let you in
his family and everyone else at the restaurant can see the effect you're having on him, and even though they were a little apprehensive at first, they're so glad that carmy has you in his life
okay enough emotional stuff :,)
i know we don't see him read in the show but something in me tells me that he'd love a good library date. he raids the cookbook section, you clear out half of the romance section, and then you'd have a picnic in a park after and read each other's books and swap ideas
carmy dog-ears the pages of the borrowed cookbooks to make note of later. even though you've scolded him a thousand times not to fold the pages, he just can't help but forget, okay? old habits die hard
"look, baby, it's not my intention to hurt the book, okay? i swear. this is just easier than using a bookmark"
his favorite fruits are plums (with the skin on) or granny smith apples (also with the skin on)

speaking of sleep we all know this poor man barely gets any so on the rare occasion that he does he can be out for hours at a time no joke
when you first started sleeping over at his place more, sometimes it would scare when he woke up and saw you sound asleep next to him because you seemed too good to be real :,)
one time he was teaching you proper knife technique before you were officially together; he put his hand over yours on the knife and even though he looked calm on the outside, he was freaking the FUCK out on the inside but for the life of him he couldn't tell why (it's called a crush carmy look it up)
i know it's hard to imagine carmy having a least favorite food because he is a chef, but idk; i feel like it would be cornbread 😭 something abt it just makes no sense to him. he thought maybe it was because he's had bad cornbread, so he made it for himself once and still didn't like it. who would put corn in bread? what was the reason?!
he always keeps you on the innermost part of the sidewalk whenever you're walking together
this isn't even a headcanon bc we all saw it on the show but 😭 this man's EYE CONTACT. good lord. the best (and worst) part is he isn't even aware of the power it holds on you; he would literally stare at you whenever you would talk and you'd get all flustered and he would just be completely clueless as to why
he LOVES it when you grip onto his arms while you’re fucking and he constantly teases you for being so obsessed with them 👀 any time he feels like skipping a workout he just thinks about that and boom he’s motivated
“you sure you wanna go out to eat? i can just make us somethin’ real quick”
would definitely get a tattoo for you once you guys got serious! something cute and simple (idk much abt tattoos lol); would love it if you had a matching one on you in a place that only he could see 👀
neck kisses are his absolute favorite. especially from behind when he gets to completely bury his face in your neck and kiss it into oblivion
literally ever since i saw carm take those jeans out of the oven my brain has been stuck on the idea that has an odd but endearing obsession with vintage levis lol 😭 one time, after the bear had opened up and completely taken off, he stayed up all night on ebay and scored a vintage type ii trucker jacket after furiously bidding on it for over an hour like a mad man
this man's always using his hands so i can totally picture his fingers doing all sorts of weird things to fidget. absentmindedly drumming his fingers on your thighs, rubbing strands of hair between his thumb and pointer finger-- literally anything to keep his hands occupied
“is this too spicy or no?”
always insists that you don't have to come to the restaurant to help but is secretly over-the-moon when you do. seeing you help with the dishes, or scold richie, or laugh with tina just makes him feel all warm and fuzzy inside (and makes him wanna start a family with you oops)
if he sees you he has to give you a full hug. he’s not a side hug kind of guy when it comes you. even if he has to drop what he’s doing in the kitchen and wipe his hands! he always gives you an all-encompassing bear hug and kisses you on the forehead and the lips- it’s his signature greeting :,)

warnings : kind of heavy angst w/delving into mike's thought process, mentions of nightmares, otherwise fluff. partly proofread. SPOILERS! (but you guys... probably dont need the warning by now, right?)
mike's nightmares (dreams?) about garrett didn't really... go away after everything that happened at freddy's. sure, it gave him some ounce of comfort knowing that he'd found the man who took his brother-- one of his lifelines, away from him, and also knowing that the same man who took his brother was now dead. but regardless, it didn't take the memories nor the guilt away. mike is, and has always been convinced that everything bad leading up to now must've been his fault. starting with garrett, all the way up to vanessa's coma, no matter how many times you've told him otherwise.
and that lingering guilt seeps into his dreams, too. he's had less dreams about garrett, and he's slowly started to have actual stupid, brief, 'normal' dreams that he can't even remember once he wakes up ever since he stopped taking the ambien; he could now safely fall asleep to the sounds of your breathing, the soothing motions of your hands in his hair, and the crickets outside rather than the repetitive nature sounds on the walkman. but when the dreams about garrett happen, they're... different. they aren't the same sequence that would usually happen in his dreams like before. he can't even remember what happens in them anymore, his memory fading as soon as he wakes up as if he hadn't dreamt anything at all-- but he's always waking up with sweat condensed on his brow, his heart racing out of his chest, and a lingering feeling of dread tugging at his heart, always feeling like somebody was watching him. he'd often wake up with a gasp, or a brief shout. it brought an aching feeling like no ofher— and while he doesn't remember the dreams anymore, the aching feeling is still the same he used to get when he was searching for why, and who kidnapped his brother. and there's another overwhelming feeling of guilt too— how could he ever even think of trading his sister for garrett?
sometimes you wake up from his violent shudders or sobbing, sometimes you don't. and when you do, you're there in a heartbeat-- your body moving faster than your sluggish, tired brain to pull him close and hug him tightly into your chest as he sobs incoherent words, not caring about his cries moving through the thin walls. he'll always apologize no matter how many times you tell him that there's no need to. he woke you up. shouldn't he feel bad about that? he just doesn't want to inconvenience you anymore. but you're pulling him out of his thoughts quickly, comforting him before he even gets a chance to regret waking you up.
it doesn't take him long to calm down whenever you're around to hold him, just like how he needed. the both of you breathing softly, the only sounds audible being your heartbeat and the wind rustling the leaves of the trees outside. quiet, just what mike needed. just like what he craved, with you.
"'m so tired." he'd whisper, blinking slowly as he traced absentminded patterns on the skin of your collarbone, the repetition soothing him. he always liked doing that. and he liked when you did the same thing with him.
"i know." you'd whisper back— and he didn't need to head anything else to feel your overwhelming care for him. it was still so confusing for him to adjust to— the fact that you wanted him even after all of the fucked up shit he went through. no— you didn't just want him, you loved him. held him without a care in the world, and you'd do it in a heartbeat. you learned his body language— knowing exactly what he needed and when. you were his home— you and abby were his home.
one morning, he's waking up alone. not really something that concerned him— you had stuff to do. like work, taking abby to school when you insisted he stay home and rest. he rubs his eyes as he stares up at the ceiling for a bit longer before pushing himself out of bed— there's no use in dwelling on last night, anyways.
mike shuffles out of bed with a yawn, scratching at the skin riding up on his shirt before feeling something wrap around him at torso level. he looks down, and it's abby. he gives her a small smile, bending down slightly to wrap his arms around her, and she giggles. "i'm not supposed to say anything." she whispers, rocking back on her feet slightly. okaaay... secrets right when he woke up, just what he needed. but he smells something good— pancakes? that has him shuffling right into the kitchen, staring at you tending to the stove, the perfect image of domesticity.
as abby's shuffling into the living room to go watch labrynth once more, mike paddles behind you and wraps his arms around your waist, giving a small kiss to your collarbone as he's staring down at your perfect hands, watching you make breakfast. usually he was the one to make breakfast— what was the special occasion? "i'm guessing this is what abby was being secretive about?" he grinned softly, breathing in the warm scent of your hair. soft. you were soft.
"i told her she wasn't supposed to say anything." you replied back, giving a soft 'hmph' as you eyed abby from the kitchen with a soft smile on your face, turning the heat off to the stove before turning around to face your boyfriend. the eggs were done cooking, anyways. "just... thought i'd do something nice for you. let you sleep in a little." your voice was soft, held implications of last night's nightmares shaking mike violently awake. he... didn't get much sleep whenever they happened. his eyes fluttered softly at the feeling of your hands carding through his hair again, and he's already about to fall asleep right at the stove.
you're prepared for him to pout, claim that breakfast was his job and that you shouldn't have gotten out of bed so early with the fact that you had so much stuff to do. but instead— he gives you a soft, bashful smile as he grabs your hand gently, kissing your palm. "thank you. y'know I love you, right?" he whispered, giving you a gentle peck on your lips. fuck morning breath.
"i love you." you whispered back, moving to lean in another time before you're hearing a dramatic gag from the living room, coming from abby. you and mike are scoffing with soft grins as the both of you depart from eachother— but still never looking away.
he never really worried about his nightmares after that, anyway.

Can't stop thinking about this idea I've had in my mind for a while
What if Terry Silver was a Twist villain?
Disclaimer: I'm not saying it would be better this way or smth (in fact, we wouldn't get many scenes from the first half of the movie which is not cool) but this is such a funny idea for me and I haven't seen any posts abt this so bear with me
The main reason why I find this idea interesting is because we as an audience experience everything from Daniel's POV.
Daniel's first meeting with Silver is also the first scene where we meet him.
We have no reason not to trust this guy. He apologised to Mr. Miyagi and Daniel!
He wants to help Daniel!
Our poor Daniel is getting beaten up again, where's Mr. Miyagi-
Oh wait today we have this guy as a knight in shining armour for Daniel! *holding out for a hero starts playing in the background*
Look at their smiles! They're having fun! Daniel is having fun!
Even if at the beginning of the movie we could have some doubts about Silver "Who is this guy? Why is he here? Kreese had a good friend, really?" after this scene we want to believe Silver is Daniel's cool new friend.
And then Daniel starts training with him and everything obviously goes downhill.
What kind of training is that???
Personal space? Didn't hear of it.
Constant unnecessary touching?
Okay, there's something fundamentally wrong with this guy. What are his motives? He used to be Kreese's friend, is he avenging him? (like Zira avenging Scar in Lion King 2 my first thought idk).
He's mentally ill and Daniel had the misfortune to become his obsession! (we know from the previous movies that everyone wants a piece of our little guy).
And then we get to that scene™ and experience almost the same shock and betrayal as Daniel does.
Silver's connected to Barnes! Kreese is alive!
He has never been a friend, even here!
Basically this is just me rambling about these two and why I find them a little tragic and this way we could feel Daniel's betrayal.
Daniel wanted Silver to be his friend! He considered him his friend, he trusted him! Just like we did!
All of them - Johnny, Chozen, Mike - hurt him but he was never betrayed by them as he never considered them his friends, he always saw them as rivals, always knew he should be beware of them.
Unlike Silver. That's why I believe Daniel refused to give him a second chance (apart from other awful things he did, obviously, I'm not forgetting these) when Silver, this time genuinely (quoting Mr. Griffith himself), wanted to be his friend. (Oh, the turntables!).
He betrayed him, hurt him in a way others didn't. Even if he forgave him, it would be *much* more difficult for him to learn to trust him, and even more so to consider him his friend as Silver wanted.
Silver called Daniel "a hothead" when he's basically the same, acting actually betrayed (look at him!) as if he didn't see it coming, as if he didn't realise that simple "sorry" wouldn't be enough.
But then again, he knew that if he couldn't become his friend, he could always be Daniel's personal nightmare, the one that Daniel will never forget.
