I guess my compulsion has decided that I'm keeping some sort of ongoing character log while I play through this. because why not.
Not nearly as many fresh faces as the starting town, but three still feels like a lot for a random detour. It works for making me want to put a pin in the map to make sure i come back to recruit them all later. They are all surprisingly young travelers out here in the middle of nowhere by themselves, which is cute and also kind of makes Hugo's whole striking out as a young hero thing feel less like magic destiny plot privileges and more like an actual coming of age thing. Sanae is the daughter of some characters from the previous Suikoden games and I love that she's this tiny little thing out here swinging around a full size naginata. Actually kind of makes Hugo venturing away from home at his age seem a little overdue?
Oh and Kidd is of course a shameless Detective Conan pastiche, filling the role of boy detective. As with Suikoden II, our faction will eventually let us recruit the detective to dig up information on various characters, both to give us fun character lore as well as hints on how to recruit others.
This kind of reminds me but I really love that from the get go, in Karaya Village as well, the game has made abundantly clear in both design and some NPC dialog that travel and trade between the games different cultures is the norm. It really makes this whole world feel connected and alive in ways I don't always see anymore.
Even without having traveled very far or seen very much, it really helps gives the sense that there is still so much to this world to see.

All these years later, Queen’s still one of my very favorite characters. I would love to see more female video game characters like her -- cool; over thirty; caring intensely but only rarely being loud about it; being absolutely dependable to her loved ones while still having a past and identity separate from them. I suppose there are a number of characters like that in games, but Suikoden III puts Queen pretty close to the center. She could have been a flat, steady mentor to the younger characters, showing up in a few scenes to be cool and inspiring but only rarely participating in the story. Instead, she’s often right there on screen with the main characters, giving lines, putting the camera on herself. She’s a constant presence.
And we get into her story, who she is. We see her conflict in LeBuque as she re-encounters people enslaved by Harmonia. Most of her teammates are around her age, so she’s explored as a peer to Geddoe and Ace and Joker, not just as a mentor to Aila. Unlike some other older female characters, she’s never an object of fantasy to boys like Hugo or Thomas. And she’s written with some subtlety -- where Ace or Aila might get a big verbal reaction to a surprising plot point, Queen’s reaction is often read in just a look or a change in demeanor.
And while the ending sequence doesn’t tell us much about what she does next, it shows that her victory is complex. She’s not entirely reconciled to what she’s seen. That’s a very realistic ending (though Suikoden does pretty well there in general, showing that just because one conflict is resolved, other problems continue).
So I first played S3 in like 2003, and I liked Queen then, and I still love her now.

I feel like these are pretty normie type picks, but that's to be expected considering my start was in Maxvid
I recognize now there's a different term for Teen/Adult ships but I both don't remember what is was and don't care particularly about the difference, to me Cradle Ship just means Adult/Minor.
🧵 What are some themes about cradle ships that you enjoy?
All of my Cradle ships are pure fluff, everything fine and nothing is wrong sort of concepts, there's never anything dark or bad or twisted about most of them, the exception being Andrias/Marcy and Belos/Hunter, but even those have their soft everything's fine AUs
I like guilt in Cradle ships and the exploration of the Grey area between parental and romantic love, mostly in the sense that kids, especially young kids, don't have a Different Types of Love understanding, it's something that is taught instead of innate in human understanding.
Too bad I don't really have any Cradle ships outside of self ships where the younger is young enough for that. Still. Love when the older is agonizing over being in love with a minor. They think it's complicated, the kid thinks it's simple.
I think it's a funny dynamic

It depends on the ship for sure but honestly ever sense the porn ban of 2018 I've kinda fallen off on Ships being NSFW at all. Most, if not all of my ships, are SFW by default just cause I'm Ace and don't see a lot of nsfw art anymore.
Some of them I'm like "Oh yeah this guy's a massive pervert about this" but even then they're mostly just weird about it in their head and are too guilty to actually act on those thoughts.
Again. I think that's a really funny dynamic. Tortured Pervert X Teasing them on purpose.

First Impression: Who is this duck, any why is he dressed like this? Is he like a kobold?
Impression Now: He’s actually pretty awesome??? I enjoyed using him in battle and I really liked his interactions with everyone.
Favorite Moment: Probably most of the moments where he’s helping Hugo and just interacting with him as a mentor.
Idea for a Story: Sgt Joe tries to quit smoking so that he won’t influence the next generation?! Or him babysitting. I
Unpopular Opinion: Hmmm I’m not sure what people think about him, so I don’t know if liking him and using him in your party is an unpopular one.
Favorite Relationship: Hugo definitely! But in a mentor/student type of way.
Favorite Headcannon: He’s great with the ladies, both duck people and Dupa’s people

Unpopular Opinion: dunno if it’s unpopular, but I enjoyed hearing his dark voice in P5! Compared to the others.
Favorite Relationship: probably with Yu since you got to chill out in a limo and not a prison. Him and Margaret!
Favorite Headcannon: He takes trips outside and goes to Big Bang Burger. To this day, he still holds the record.
