[Minor early game Elden Ring spoilers in the next paragraph.]

[The Siofra River was one of the first areas I cleared in Elden Ring. The game presents you with quite a few ways into higher-level areas early on, but the Siofra River is pretty. And has what is so far my favorite boss in the game, the Ancestor Spirit. Came outta there with my favorite spirit summon, which is... this guy! His arrows do good damage, they stagger the heck outta dudes, and he's fairly capable in melee too. Still dunno what's up with their faces.]

Actions

Multiattack: The ancestral follower makes two attacks.

Jawbone Axe +6 melee weapon attack, reach 5 ft., 10 (2d6+3) bludgeoning damage

Hornbow +6 ranged weapon attack, range 150/600 ft., 8 (1d8+3) piercing damage and 4 (1d8) force damage

Mighty Shot: The ancestral follower nocks a large arrow and charges it with magic. The follower can’t use this action if has moved or used a bonus action on this turn. The follower must then concentrate, as though on a spell, until the start of its next turn, and it cannot take reactions until then. The follower’s concentration is automatically broken if it is grappled, restrained, knocked prone, or forcibly moved.

If the follower succeeds in maintaining concentration until the start of its next turn, it can make one attack with advantage using its Hornbow. On a hit, it deals 16 (3d8+3) piercing damage and 18 (4d8) force damage. The target must then make a DC 14 Strength save or be knocked prone.

Tactics

Use that Mighty Shot only if you’re protected, and be sure to describe the obviously dangerous magical energy coalescing around the guy’s huge arrow. Give the players a signal, “HEY! Interrupt this guy or it's gonna hurt.” And boy will it! Use these guys like snipers; put ‘em in a protected position with some dudes to run interference in melee, and they will do so much damage.

Speaking of damage, Mighty Shot can oneshot some squishier level 4 characters. Give ‘em some cover, yeah? Only sporting.

Statblock can be easily modified for a generic arcane sniper type. Swap the melee weapon, swap Ancestral Vitality for something more appropriate (or nothing), change some skills. Maybe switch Int and Wis.

Lore

The ancestral followers are large, gaunt-faced humanoids who live in harmony with the wilds. They eschew the use of metal and can sometimes be found tending to injured animals. They worship the ancestor spirits and await the end of the world, so that they might be there to welcome the new one.

So one of my buddies and I are planning on running the same build on different classes. He’s gotta finish up his Orc fighter, but already it’s been decided that the two are going to be twins and I’m living for it.

#personal #mine is an orc barbarian because of course he is #and they're both using a butchering axe and orc hornbow #because why no #so i'm looking at a minimum of 10 damage at first level #which is kinda ridiculous
