hey am i the only one hating the constant cutesy nicknames in cap's fic. all those ings dors little mons caspys and lysis. use their full name coward it's like three syllables. i get it he wants the characters to seem close (without actually writing it out lmao) but it's so grating is the black eagle strike force made out of five year old??? is shortening your friends' names something all ppl in their twenties do and i'm the odd one??? i feel like i'm losing my mind with this fic honestly

To be fair to Cap'n here that is a habit of the 3H fandom as a whole, and ngl it almost always annoys me. Yes, even Mitya and Dima for Dimitri, popular as they are. It's like since some nicknames from some characters exist, there ought to be nicknames everywhere, and... bleh. Call me a killjoy but it almost always seems forced to me whenever a fandom tries to make a non-canonical nickname happen 🤷‍♀️

You know how some shows do everything in their power to shock and surprise their audience? Our Flag Means Death also want to surprise the audience at all cost, but like. Pleasantly. Oh, I did not expect the two mains to actually get together and share an actual gay kiss. Oh, I did not expect the sunshine in our sunshine x malice couple to have this edge of occasional, well, malice. Oh, I did not expect Mary Read and Anne Bonny to be in a lesbian Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf. Oh, I did not expect the smartass soup stand owner to be the fucking Zheng Yi Sao herself. Oh, I did not expect Swede to find true hapiness in Spanish Jackie's harem of all places. Oh, I did not expect the curse of the suit to never manifest itself, and instead the punchline to be that Stede has to literally force his drip on someone else. Oh, I did not expect Buttons to turn to- Actually nvm that one's the most logical endgame any character in any show ever received. Obviously not everything always goes well, because that would be boring, but so many surprises in this show are actually nice or at least fun, one can't help but love it for that.
