Joe Joyce vs Joseph Parker is the on the banner but I’m there for Serrano-Mahfoud. Same with Hughes-Galahad and Harper-Rankin. RIZIN’s MMA card features the semis for the atomweight tournament and a Horiguchi fight with is great. And of course, we’re also getting Floyd vs Asakura (really, Nadaka Yoshinari).

Earlier this week friend of the fandom Allison McClain Merrill of Past Foot Forward had a chat with Whitt from the Duff Enough Podcast about Disney Channel Christmases.

In almost an hour they discussed pre-2000 Disney shows, non-Disney holiday favorites, celebrating the season at Disney parks, what makes a show Christmas or not, New Year's bumpers, collectible memorabilia, and VHS and DVD collections.
At one point Allison and Whitt touched on what made growing up so special for us.
Their conclusion? Disney intentionally made traditions for us with festive bumpers and shows that got us excited about the season. Even when they stopped being aired, we continued the tradition for ourselves by rewatching our favorites and holding onto that time in our lives. 🥲

Rebus unveils first look as BBC acquires reboot of hit crime drama
Outlander's Richard Rankin stars in the new detective drama.
Crime drama fans, the BBC has acquired another surefire hit of a series - and is bringing Rebus to our screens this spring.
The series, which was the first UK drama commission from Viaplay, will air on BBC Scotland, BBC One and iPlayer soon, and is based on the best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by award-winning author Ian Rankin.
Previously announced back in 2023, the show stars Richard Rankin (Outlander) as Detective Sergeant John Rebus.
It is, of course, not the first time that the Rankin novels have been adapted for the small screen, with ITV's Rebus adaptation airing between 2000 and 2007 and starring John Hannah and Ken Stott in the title role.
The new series, however, sees a younger Rebus drawn into "a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality".

Richard Rankin takes on the role of the famous Scottish detective
The BBC acquired the Scottish crime drama Rebus. Made by Eleventh Hour Films for Viaplay, and based on Ian Rankin’s novels, the series stars Richard Rankin (no relation) in the title role.
The detective has been previously played, as an Inspector, by both John Hannah and Ken Stott.
Rebus
The six-part series has been adapted for the screen by Gregory Burke who reimagines the character earlier in his career. Detective Sergeant John Rebus is drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality. Rebus finds himself torn between protecting his brother and enforcing the law to bring Michael to justice.
Gregory Burke To Adapt Ian Rankin’s Rebus Series as Eleventh Hour Drama Black Watch. Both adaptations, have Richard Rankin’s participation. Based on interviews with former soldiers, it tells the story of troops from the then Black Watch regiment serving in Iraq. The play toured around the world and went on to win four Olivier Awards.

The series promises to explore family, morality and class in an emotionally charged story, set against the Scottish landmarks that Rankin’s readers know so well.
Joining Richard Rankin (Outlander), the series also stars Lucie Shorthouse (Bulletproof), Brian Ferguson (The Ipcress File) and Amy Manson (The Nevers). Plus, Neshla Caplan, Noof Ousellam, Stuart Bowman, Caroline Lee Johnson, Sean Buchanan, Thoren Ferguson and Michelle Duncan.
Filming took place in Glasgow and Edinburgh last year.

Rebus will air on BBC Scotland, BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this spring.

Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne’s ‘Cabaret’ training includes weekly bouts of ‘torture’

Eddie Redmayne is doing all he can to keep in shape for his role as the Emcee in “Cabaret” — which includes weekly bouts of “torture.”
“It’s quite full-on,” he told The Post exclusively at the show’s opening Sunday.
“There is this amazing man named Greg, who is kind of a genius, body-work human being who punishes me once a week,” the actor, 42, explained. “My wife [Hannah Bagshawe] thinks it’s massage, but it’s actually a kind of borderline torture. But it’s keeping me upright!”
The Oscar winner confessed that he also gobbles down “every single sort of lozenge or tea or Chinese medicine.”
He added: “Or anything that anyone tells me is good for your singing voice.”
Redmayne has had plenty of experience playing the legendary role, originated by Joel Grey and then played by Alan Cumming.
He won an Olivier Award in 2022 for taking on the part in a West End revival, which has now transferred to Broadway.
The “Fantastic Beasts” star also played the role as a teen, and he joked that his mother has a video of his performance locked away.
“She’s holding me ransom to it,” he quipped.
“She cannot show anyone,” he went on, adding that taking the role to Broadway has always been “my dream as a kid, to do this, in this city.”
The Kander & Ebb musical, which is set against the rise of the Nazi party in 1930s Berlin, clearly has resonance in the current climate of antisemitism and fascism.
“What’s extraordinary about ‘Cabaret,’ it was written in the ’60s, 20 years after the end of the Second World War,” the Tony winner said. “It was relevant then, and now it couldn’t be more relevant.
“Yet what’s extraordinary about the piece is that it’s very specific to the moment in history that it happened, so you can read it in that way or watch these ripples across generations. Sadly it always seems relevant, and that is a testament to the fact that people perhaps are not learning from their mistakes.”
This production, which also stars “Glow” actress Gayle Rankin and Broadway vet Bebe Neuwirth, is not shy about portraying the decadence of the era.
Redmayne chooses to call it “hedonistic and celebratory.”
“It was an amazing moment,” he marveled. “There is a wonderful museum in New York, the Neue [Galerie] that I go to quite often, with all the Egon Schiele paintings and Klimt paintings. That’s a wonderful way to get seduced back into this world.”

Happy Birthday Kenneth Campbell "Ken" Stott, born on October 19th 1954 in Edinburgh.
One of my favourite actors, as hard-drinking Detective hero of Ian Rankin's popular book he was Inspector John Rebus to me. Ken's Father was Scottish and a teacher, his mum a Sicilian, he went to the famous George Herriots school before going onto to Mountview Theatre School, where the distinguished actor Sir John Mills was president. Fellow Scot Douglas Henshall was also a student of the school. Before leaving Edinburgh Stott had been in a band called Keyhole some of the members of the group would later join the Bay City Rollers.
Ken went on to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company but the pay was poor and he subsidised his earnings by selling double glazing. His first TV role was in Secret Army for the BBC, parts in TV shows throughout his career have included, Taggart (of course) The Singing Detective, London's Burning, Your Cheatin' Heart and Silent Witness. He was insome good films too, The Debt Collector (with Billy Connolly) , Shallow Grave, (with Ewen MacGregor) and Plunkett & Macleane (with Robert Carlyle).
My favourite shows of Ken's have been the brilliant BBC Scotland series, Takin' Over the Asylum in which starred as Double Glazing salesman, but aspiring disc jockey
with David Tennant and Angus Macfadyen,The ITV series The Vice was also a cracking series where he played DI Pat Chappel and The BBC show Messiah, where again he played a cop, DCI Red Metcalfe where he learned sign language for scenes with his screen wife,and Rebus of course, when the show was resurrected in 2006, Stott was a first choice for many as D.I John Rebus, John Hannah had the role in the first incarnation, mainly due to it being made by his own production company.
On film Ken is probably best known for his role as the Dwarf, Balin in The Hobbit trilogy. He is a popular choice for voice work, as narrator for series such as Trawlermen, a documentary following North Sea trawlers, and Send in the Dogs, following the work of Police Officers and their canine partners.
One of my favourite stories about Ken Stott echoes the no nonsense approach of Rebus, on stage during Arthur Miller's A View From The Bridge, he halted the play when a group of teenage schoolkids were misbehaving and disturbing the show, switching from his stage American to his native Scots accent he told the teacher responsible for the children to remove them, or the play would not go on.
The house lights were switched on and there was then a 15-minute stand-off as discussions took place with the offending youngsters.
The audience took the side of Stott and even resorted to chanting 'out, out, out' in extraordinary scenes. Eventually the three culprits and an embarrassed teacher was forced to creep away before the play resumed at the Duke of York's Theatre.
Recently Ken was in the TV series Devils playing professor Wade in the show. Look out for The Dig, a decent Netflix film about an archaeologist dig in England in 1938 also starring Ralph Fiennes.
Ken reprised his role as Chief Superintendent Bob Toal in the second series of Irvine Welsh's Edinburgh set cop show Crime.
Nominated for many awards, he was lifted two Scottish Baftas and a Laurence Olivier Award.

The musicians of the Prologue are Brian Russell Carey (piano & bass), Francesca Dawis (violin), Keiji Ishiguri (dedicated substitute), Maeve Stier (accordion), and Michael Winograd (clarinet).
Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club also features club, scenic, and costume design by Tom Scutt, and choreography by Julia Cheng.

My opinion:
I've read all the reviews, I'm just an Eddie fan blogger, so I absolutely can't give a technical opinion, but I know and know the enormous effort that goes into a show. Critics are critical as they should be, so let's not be influenced by the negative ones. I haven't seen the show in New York and I don't know if I 'll be able to see it, but I saw the one in London which completely enveloped me and immersed me in the 1930s like a vortex. If you go to see the show pls, don't think about the criticism, but listen to your feelings, which are worth much more!

It’s happened again :-\
Okay, would you like to know just how not-US-culture/media-savvy I actually was? Am.
Here goes. I’d learned about Sara Bareilles, how US colleges function, Waffle House, Denny’s, Frasier, Mama’s Family, Who’s the Boss, Family Matters, My Dinner with Andre, Dead Poets Society, The Breakfast Club, what GED is, what State bar association is and does, Ding dongs, Charleston chews, Traveling Wilburys, Rankin/Bass, the whole concept of stop-motion Christmas specials, M*A*S*H, G.I. Joe cartoons, Reading Rainbow, Roots, Blazing Saddles, Patton, Sixteen Candles, Animal House, National Lampoon, Apollo 13, Night of the Living Dead, Suicide Kings, Hannah Montana, The Right Stuff, Ken Burns, Law & Order, Cougar Town, and I’m sure I’m forgetting at least two dozen things — only from/thanks to Community. I had learned about Community by accident; someone insisted I watch it because it was ‘up my alley’; and it was. Needless to say, it was streets ahead (if you have to ask, you’re streets behind).
Sure, I’ve been catching up. For years. Right now we’re watching Frasier.
But I just wanted to say that if you leave a comment in the vein of, ‘omg this reminds me of *a piece of American media*’ and I reply with ‘what’s this, never heard of it’ — I promise I’m neither lying to you, nor ‘messing’ with you, nor being sarcastic or stuck-up. I promise. I replied with that because yes, I genuinely have no idea. I’ve never been to the US. I grew up consuming entirely different media; reading and studying different literature. Even my nostalgia, including radio— movies— shows— musicals— clothes— food—related nostalgia, and my ‘uuuuuugh goddamn boring crap can’t believe I have to read this’—adjacent school grievances lie elsewhere.
But if you’re in the mood for broadening your horizons, I’d always be happy to dispense a multitude of recommendations. :)
So, uh. Dear Americans, as today you celebrate Christmas and give each other presents, may I please ask you for a humble present. Not even for me personally, but in general.
Could you please not assume automatically that the person you’re interacting with online is from the US? In fact, maybe it’d be a good idea to assume, by default, that they are not. That’s all I ask for.

Hannah Rankin stops Alejandra Ayala in the 10th! - May 13, 2022
Scotland’s Hannah Rankin defended her WBA and IBO super welterweight titles tonight in a historic bout as she and Ayala were the first women to headline a boxing card at the OVO Hydro arena, Scotland’s largest arena. I also think it was the first women’s boxing match to headline any boxing show in Scotland.

Viaplay has found its Inspector Rebus and author Sir Ian Rankin is keeping it in the name.
Outlander star Richard Rankin – no relation to the source material’s scribe – will play the lead in the Nordic streamer’s debut UK original Rebus. He follows in the footsteps of fellow Scottish actors John Hannah and Ken Stott, who led the ITV version 20 years ago.
Viaplay’s reboot, which is planned as a returning series and will soon unveil more cast, follows 40-year-old Inspector John Rebus at a psychological crossroads following an altercation with an infamous Edinburgh gangster. At odds with a job increasingly driven by technocrats, involved in a toxic affair he knows he needs to end, and all but supplanted in his daughter’s life by his ex-wife’s wealthy new husband, Rebus begins to wonder if he still has a role to play – either as a family man or a police officer.

Richard Rankin, who plays Roger Wakefield in Starz drama Outlander and whose past credits include The Last Kingdom and Trust Me, said he “feels very lucky to be given the honour of bringing such an iconic Scottish character back to TV screens.”
Ian Rankin backed Richard Rankin to “bring the character to life,” adding: “He’s the perfect fit for the role, and not just because we coincidentally share the same surname.”
71 scribe Gregory Burke is penning the adaptation from Magpie Murders outfit Eleventh Hour Films. The project is a big UK bet for Viaplay, having launched in the territory just four months ago.
Viaplay Chief Content Officer Filippa Wallestam said it is a “privilege to have such a famous character spearheading Viaplay’s original storytelling in the UK.”
Rankin wrote 24 Rebus novels between 1987 and 2002. The TV series ran from 2000 to 2007 on ITV and saw first Hannah then Stott portray the main character.

Rebus reboot in Glasgow!

Richard Rankin was pictured on Byres Road today by our photographer Gordon Terris as production gets underway for the reboot of Rebus.
He was seen outside West End cafe Kember and Jones with film crews on Tuesday afternoon.
Based on the best-selling books by Ian Rankin, Rebus follows the central character, Detective Inspector John Rebus, as he solves various crimes in and around Edinburgh.
Outlander star Rankin will follow in the footsteps of John Hannah, Ken Stott Brian Cox, Ron Donachie and Charles Lawson to play a young Rebus.
The new series is said to be a "fresh and thrilling offering in the high-end crime genre" and follows 40-year-old Rebus as he finds himself at a psychological crossroads after an altercation with an infamous gangster.
The Scottish actor said: “I’m thrilled to be taking on the role of Rebus. I’m a big fan of the series and Sir Ian Rankin.
“I feel very lucky to be given the honour of bringing such an iconic Scottish character back to TV screens and will give all I have to do it justice.”
Sir Ian Rankin said: “Rebus has been a big part of my life for a long time now and to work with Gregory Burke to create a new story that sees him navigate life as a younger man in a contemporary (and ever-changing) Scotland has been a truly fascinating process.
"I’m very much looking forward to watching Richard bring the character to life – he’s the perfect fit for the role, and not just because we coincidentally share the same surname.”

Two Weirdos with a Dream

The dream began as wishful thinking in December 2022. It was the very end of the year when Annie and I whispered something into existence: What if we owned a bookstore? This was a silly dream we shared between ourselves to give us a break from our jobs and the chaos of the world. Every time work became too stressful, we could run away into the fantasy of a bookshop that was a safe place for queer people, that centered minority voices, that shared the magic of good books.
Early 2023, we turned it into a hobby. Books make us happy and we have a tendency to acquire a giant pile of dead, tattooed trees. We both went through our collections to see what we could part with and sell online. Initially we ended up with three large, black and yellow tubs full of books. We photographed every one and listed it online just to see what would happen.
The first book we ever sold was Citizen by Claudia Rankine and we were absolutely ecstatic. This was one out of Annie’s collection, and they had been meaningfully impacted by the book. We wrapped it up and they wrote a heartfelt note on it before we sent it off to a new home.
After that, it felt more tangible. We browsed yard and estate sales and took in generous donations from friends and families. And it quickly became apparent that we needed more space. Plastic tubs weren’t going to cut it anymore. So we got a little office and began to stuff it with bookshelves laden with books, all the while selling them online and doing a little happy dance every time we got to ship one.
Fast forward a year and some change and we are so excited to open our space up for in person shopping. We can’t wait to see what this change brings for our little business.

New Video: Joel Grey and Eddie Redmayne Talk CABARET and The 'Emcee' Legacy
Last night, the company and audience of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club celebrated Broadway legend Joel Grey’s 92nd birthday on stage at the August Wilson Theatre.

Last night, the company of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club wilkommened some very special guests to their immersive nightclub home!
Eddie Redmayne currently in previews as the ‘Emcee’ in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club celebrated Broadway legend Joel Grey’s 92nd birthday on stage at the August Wilson Theatre.
In the video Grey, who won Tony and Academy Awards for originating the role of the Emcee, reacts to the immersive new production now in previews on Broadway and its star Eddie Redmayne.
Redmayne described the feeling of performing for Grey and the show's composer, John Kander as "extraordinary, horrendously intimidating, as well, but joyful," and revealed a special moment he shared with the star during the performance.
Grey, who originated the role of the ‘Emcee’ on Broadway in 1966 and went on to star in the beloved film of Cabaret, took the stage as the entire cast, band, and creative team sang “Happy Birthday” while a custom cake, shaped like a giant pineapple, emerged from the stage.
During his speech honoring Grey, Eddie Redmayne said, “Tonight is an extraordinarily special night for us because we are in the presence of an extraordinary human being without whom none of us would be here.” After thunderous applause, Redmayne continued “Your performance in this part changed my life and it was one of the things that made me want to be an actor.”
The cast and Grey were also joined on stage by Cabaret composer John Kander.
Alongside Joel’s daughter Jennifer Grey and Kander, a star-studded crowd came out to fete the theater icon including Anderson Cooper, Candice Bergen, Jackie Hoffman, Jane Krakowski, Lin-Manuel Miranda, David Rockwell, and more. They were joined by numerous alum of Cabaret spanning the decades including Maude Apatow (Sally Bowles in London, 2023), Madeline Brewer (Sally Bowles in London, 2022), Joely Fisher (Sally Bowles on Broadway, 2000), Gina Gershon (Sally Bowles on Broadway, 2001), Mason Alexander Park (Emcee in London, 2023), Adam Pascal (Emcee on Broadway, 2003), Molly Ringwald (Sally Bowles on Broadway, 2002), Jake Shears (Emcee in London, 2023), and Brooke Shields (Sally Bowles on Broadway, 2001).

Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is now in previews on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). The musicians of the Prologue are Brian Russell Carey (piano & bass), Francesca Dawis (violin), Keiji Ishiguri (dedicated substitute), Maeve Stier (accordion), and Michael Winograd (clarinet).
For this production of Cabaret, the creative team have transformed the August Wilson Theatre into the Kit Kat Club with an in-the-round auditorium and custom spaces which guests will be invited to explore during the Prologue, the production’s pre-show entertainment. After purchasing tickets, guests will receive a “club entry time” to allow them to take in the world of the club before the show starts.
