Rumor Has It
Raphael Trevelyan, Lily Trevelyan
Words: 3,759
(Catching up, comfort, eating disorder, Cullen was somewhat of a butt, gossip)
Raphael checks in on Lily after he hears she had a falling out with the commander.
Hannah belongs to @kagetsukai. ________________________________
It was almost noon by the time Raphael was making his way back to Haven after a long morning of hunting. There was a moment where he thought the only thing he would be bringing back to the town was the sack of wild turnips and carrots he was able to dig up, but he got lucky just as he was about to call it quits. The large, dead deer that was draped over his shoulders, however, would most likely disagree.
The town was a lot busier and crowded since Lily’s arrival from the Hinterlands the previous night. Most of the mages that had accompanied her appeared to be unsure of what to do with themselves - some wandered about the town or remained inside their assigned tents, while a few others spoke regularly to the messengers running around the town.
There was no sign of Lily anywhere as he made his way towards the tavern, and he wondered where she could be. She usually spent this time of day taking horse riding lessons with Cullen or running errands for Adan, and the morning meeting in the chantry should have been over by now.
He carefully nudged the door to the tavern open before stepping inside and glanced around the warm and crowded room, wondering if by some divine miracle she had decided to show up for the midday meal on her own accord for once.
He frowned when he realized she wasn’t here either.
“Hello, Raphael!”
The sudden, enthusiastic greeting caught him by surprise despite the loud chatter in the tavern, and he turned to find Flissa looking up at him with a big smile.
“Do you need any help with that?” she asked, as she reached for the bag of turnips and carrots that was hanging from his belt.
“Uh, that’s okay,” replied Raphael, as he deftly stepped out of her reach and headed into the tavern’s back room to set down the heavy deer.
Even though he sensed there was an interest from her, he knew Flissa’s intentions were innocent - she was a sweet girl who wouldn’t hurt a fly - but that didn’t mean he was comfortable with her reaching for his hips without his permission.
“I think this should be enough for the rest of the day,” he said, as he surveyed the kitchen’s large stock, willing the slight warmth of embarrassment to leave his face.
“Oh yes, definitely,” assured Flissa. She was standing just outside the doorway, playing with a few strands of her hair as she smiled shyly at him, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. “All thanks to you, of course.”
Raphael was about to remind her that he wasn’t the only hunter in town, but decided to change the subject in case she decided to offer more unnecessary praise. He cleared his throat as he unfastened the bag at his belt and set it down on the floor with the rest of the vegetables.
“Have you seen Lily?” he asked. “I haven’t seen her since last night.”
Flissa’s flustered expression now had a hint of worry.
“Not today, no,” she replied. “I was going to deliver her morning meal to her cabin after her meeting, but… I… I didn’t catch her in time.”
“What do you mean?”
Flissa looked over her shoulder before stepping into the room, keeping her voice low as she spoke.
“Word around town is that she got into quite a row with the commander,” she murmured. “Some chantry sisters overheard the ruckus in the meeting room before the Herald stormed out, looking as if she was about to incinerate every single thing in her path. No one has seen her since then, as far as I know.”
Raphael frowned. He learned to take rumors started by chantry people with a keg of salt long ago, but he couldn’t help but feel concerned about what could have possibly happened for Lily to feel so upset with Cullen. He had seen with his own two eyes how well they seemed to get along together, enough so that he began to suspect a growing fondness between the two of them.
He was about to ask Flissa if she knew what the argument was about before deciding against it, not wanting to have anything to do with the harsh gossip that normally swept through the town.
“Do you know where she went?” he asked, as he quickly filled the basin with water and washed his hands.
“She might have gone into the outskirts of the town?” offered Flissa. “Probably getting herbs for Adan and such.”
Raphael briefly hesitated as he dried his hands on a clean rag. He didn’t recall seeing any sign of Lily while he was out hunting and gathering, but he wasn’t too worried - he knew the herbs she picked usually grew some distance away from the regular hunting grounds.
“Is it alright if I take a few things?” he asked, nodding at a few baskets filled with loaves of rye bread, goat cheese, and different kinds of fruit. “I have a feeling she hasn’t eaten anything in awhile.”
“Of course,” nodded Flissa, glancing back at the doorway when a few loud voices were calling her name. “Maker, I better get back. See you later, I hope!”
Raphael sighed as he left the back room a few minutes later, securing a small bag filled with food to his belt. He was about to head towards the entrance of the tavern with purpose when a familiar voice made him stop dead in his tracks.
"Fuck you!”
Dread settled in his stomach as he cautiously looked over in the direction of the insult he thought was meant for him, but instead found the woman known as Hannah engaged in what appeared to be a heated conversation with Krem.
“I’m stronger than I look and I can totally take you on!” she challenged.
“Oh shut up,” scoffed Krem, as he lifted a tankard to his lips. “You’re a pencil pusher, you’re no match for my strength.”
“Oh yeah?” asked Hannah. She moved her arm to rest her elbow on the table and offered her hand, wiggling her fingers expectantly. “Wanna bet?”
Raphael’s stomach sank when Krem suddenly met his confused stare and smirked.
“Hey Flissa,” he called, “get ready to add a round to Hannah’s tab!”
It was all Raphael needed to bolt out the door before Hannah turned and had another chance to unload her ire on him again. He had managed to avoid the woman since their falling out a few weeks ago, and he had absolutely no intention to come across her again.
He kept a brisk pace as he made his way out of the town, making sure he kept his ears open in case he heard any word about Lily. The usual comments and gossip were now tinged with concerned remarks about the allied mages, and he had no doubt the chantry was taking advantage of Lily’s decision to spread their bullshit propaganda.
He scowled when his eyes zeroed in on Cullen in the distance as he walked through the town gates.
The man appeared more tired and tense than usual as he shouted orders at the sparring soldiers, and the scout that came up to him with a message scurried away when all he received was a sharp, terse reply in return. Whatever words were exchanged between him and Lily that morning had obviously left him in a bad mood.
Raphael’s frown stayed put when Cullen spotted him walking by, and judging by the deep sigh that was released, Raphael’s presence had done little to improve his mood.
He huffed a sigh when Cullen turned away and continued his trek towards the small forest ahead, breaking into a jog as he neared the trees. There was no sign of Lily in the area where the medicinal herbs were usually found, and a knock on the abandoned cabin’s door yielded no reply. He took a deep breath as he glanced around, willing himself to remain calm. The druffalos in the hills nearby rarely ventured this close to the town, and they weren’t a danger unless someone was stupid enough to make them angry.
He was about to call her name when he walked around the side of the cabin and sighed in relief when he spotted a trail of fresh footprints leading down towards a small, hidden pier.
There was Lily, sitting at the edge of the dock, staring down at the frozen lake.
“Hey,” he said quietly, so as to not startle her. It didn’t work.
She jumped slightly as she whipped her head around, and the fear he saw in her face made him pause. It was clear that she wasn’t fully recovered from her recent trip to the Hinterlands, and his stomach clenched as he thought back to when he saw her last night. The distant, haunted look in her face wasn’t as prominent anymore, but the pallor and exhaustion hadn’t gone anywhere.
“Sorry,” he rushed out, as she visibly relaxed. “I didn’t mean to sneak up on you.”
Lily released a deep breath and shook her head, dismissing his concern.
“It’s fine,” she said, as she scooted over and gestured at the space next to her with a questioning expression.
Raphael hesitated for a brief second before walking over to her with a small smile. Even though she didn’t keep her distance from him anymore since their first meeting, he still decided to be careful as he sat down next to her, taking care to not encroach her personal space too much.
There was still an air of awkwardness around them despite the talk they had last night, and he wasn’t sure how to act around her. She was so different compared to when they were children - quieter, withdrawn, lost in her own thoughts, and the grins and laughter that were once so prominent were now mostly small smiles that didn’t quite reach her eyes. It was understandable, obviously, after all she had to endure through the years on her own.
It didn’t mean he was fine with it, though.
He knew there was no point in acknowledging the guilt that continued to gnaw at him, not when he was finally reunited with his little sister. What mattered now was to help her in any way that he could.
But… the problem was that he didn’t really know how.
Silence settled between them and he remembered the bag that was hanging from his belt. Well, making sure that she ate something would be a good start.
“I brought you a few things,” he said, as he unfastened the bag and shifted in place to face her.
Lily’s curious expression turned into wariness when the scent of freshly baked bread wafted from the bag, and she looked away just as she opened her mouth to protest.
“It’s nothing rich,” he assured her. “Just a few light things to get something into your system. Start with this.”
Lily hesitated as she eyed the small slice of bread he offered her, and much to Raphael’s relief, she accepted it.
“Thank you,” she said quietly.
He gave her a small nod and proceeded to lay out some fruit and cheese on a clean napkin as she began to nibble at her bread, taking care to leave the rest of it in the bag so it wouldn’t get too cold.
His mind tried to figure out what to say as he began to cut a small apple in half, wondering if he should ask about the so-called ‘row’ Flissa had mentioned. One look at her tired expression was all he needed to change his mind.
“How are you feeling?” he asked.
She hesitated as she picked at her bread.
“A little better,” she replied. She was about to say something else, but looked at him curiously instead. “How’d you know I was here, anyway?”
Raphael froze as he looked back at her, wondering if he should come up with some sort of a lie so she wouldn’t know about the gossiping townspeople, but decided against it. The last thing he wanted was to betray Lily’s trust with a lie, no matter how small it was.
He sighed as he set half of the apple next to her.
“I… I was dropping off some stuff at the tavern and asked Flissa about you since I hadn’t seen you all day,” he replied slowly.
He wasn’t really sure what kind of reaction he was expecting, but Lily rolling her eyes was not it.
“And I imagine she also told you about the exciting events that occurred in the meeting this morning?” she asked flatly, raising a brow.
The sarcastic bite in her voice made him raise his eyebrows in return. It was the first time he had seen that familiar spark since they were kids, and if he was being honest with himself, he was relieved and excited to see it.
Unfortunately, Lily seemed to misread his reaction and immediately turned her gaze down at the frozen lake again.
“I’m sorry,” she sighed, closing her eyes. “I - I didn’t mean to snap at you.”
“Don’t apologize,” Raphael quickly replied. “Trust me, I’m well aware that wasn’t directed at me.”
Lily looked up at him and searched his face for a moment before looking down at her half-eaten piece of bread.
“How much did she tell you?” she asked.
“The gist of it was that you and Cullen butted heads on something,” said Raphael, before biting into his apple. “The rest of it sounded like exaggerated rumors.”
“Of course,” Lily sighed. “I don’t know why I keep being surprised at how fast gossip spreads in small towns.”
That caught Raphael’s attention. She hadn’t yet mentioned where she had gone or what she did after leaving the Circle, and he was curious to know more.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“Me and a couple of other mages traveled to a town called Amaranthine after leaving Ostwick, and we stayed there for… maybe two years?” she replied, as she furrowed her brows. The look on her face turned pensive, almost sad. “It was more than enough time to learn about rumor mills.”
Raphael stared at her for a moment before forcing himself to swallow a mouthful of apple.
“You were in Amaranthine?”
Lily’s thoughtful expression turned into one of concern as she looked back at him.
“Yes,” she said hesitantly. “Is something wrong?”
“No,” Raphael quickly replied. Perhaps a little too quickly, judging by Lily’s slight frown. The guilt made itself known once again as he sighed and glanced down at the lake, which appeared to have fish he hadn’t noticed before swimming below the frozen surface. “I just… That was the first town I stayed in after I left Ostwick, too.”
Understanding flickered in Lily’s face before she gave him a small smile.
“Of course,” she said quietly, as she huffed a quiet chuckle. “There was an innkeeper there who asked me if I had visited the town before on the night we arrived. I apparently looked familiar to him.”
Raphael smiled as he remembered the man who was kind enough to help him after he managed to escape Ostwick. It never once crossed his mind back then that the same man would eventually help Lily as well.
Damn it, he should have stayed.
“Sounds like we missed each other by a couple of years,” he murmured, as he stared down at his lap.
Lily’s firm voice made him look back up at her in surprise.
“No,” she said, as she shifted to face him and shook her head. “Don’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“Don’t feel guilty over anything that has happened.” There was steel in her expression, and for a second Raphael was reminded of her mother. His aunt. “None of it was your fault.”
Raphael swallowed, but it had no effect on the lump that had formed in his throat. He wished he could believe her, but he didn’t want to accept the comfort she was offering, not when he knew she had also been living with guilt of her own for so long.
“It wasn’t yours, either.”
Lily’s face faltered at his words and she looked away, turning her gaze back down towards the swimming fish.
“I know,” she said quietly.
It didn’t take much for Raphael to realize she didn’t believe her own words, but he understood just how much it was easier said than done. They sat in silence for a little while before he noticed she was staring at the training soldiers in the far distance with a somewhat frustrated and downtrodden expression.
He scowled when he realized she was most likely thinking back to what happened with Cullen, and he inched her half of the uneaten apple closer to her in an effort to remind her to keep eating.
She glanced down at it and picked it up, though she didn’t make a move to eat it.
Raphael watched her for a moment before biting into a piece of bread topped with goat cheese.
“Whatever you two argued about, I’m sure he deserved it,” he declared, with a mouth full of bread.
Lily looked up from her apple, clearly amused.
“You don’t even know why we were arguing.”
“No, but he doesn’t exactly strike me as a reasonable type to begin with.” He hesitated when Lily’s face fell into a slight frown. “Do you want to talk about it?”
She sighed before taking a small bite of her apple.
“He just wasn’t happy about me recruiting the mages, and…” she trailed off as she chewed. “Let’s just say he seems to be… set in his ways.”
“That’s a very nice way of saying he’s a stubborn ass,” Raphael grinned.
“He’s very stubborn, but he’s not an ass,” retorted Lily, as she rolled her eyes. “I suspect he has his reasons for feeling the way that he does, but we’re going to have to clear the air since we need to keep working together.”
Raphael nodded in understanding.
“When do you think that’ll happen?” He asked.
“I’m not sure, but it needs to happen soon,” replied Lily. “There’s a lot of work to be done, and I can’t exactly push it aside just to avoid him.”
She sighed and rubbed at her forehead.
“I also need to not… yell at him this time,” she added.
Raphael huffed a small laugh as he thought back to when he saw Cullen shouting at the sparring soldiers.
“I suggest waiting a day or two, if you can,” he offered. “It would give the two of you some time to calm down.”
“I guess so,” said Lily. She took another bite of her apple before shifting in place to face him completely, and crossed her legs. “But enough about that. What were you up to while I was away?”
Raphael stared blankly at her for a few seconds, completely caught off guard by her question. He looked away as tried to figure out what to say so that Lily wouldn’t be upset about him shrugging off yet another bedrest order.
“Um… resting?”
Lily stared back at him with a flat expression.
“Really?” she asked. “So you didn’t take a tumble into some snow with a sack of potatoes, then?”
Raphael’s mouth popped open and he was getting ready to defend himself when he realized that there was no point in doing so. He felt his face warm as he thought about the day he had made an absolute fool of himself in front of Hannah, and sadly, it seemed like that memory wasn’t going to leave him alone anytime soon.
“How did you know about that?” he blurted.
Much to his surprise, Lily let out an actual laugh.
“Like I said before, word travels quick in small towns,” she said, as she reached into the bag for a piece of bread. “They also rarely shut up about things, too.”
Raphael shifted in place as he looked at her, not sure if she was about to give him a scolding for not listening to her.
“You’re not mad?” he asked hesitantly.
“I was never mad, I was worried,” replied Lily. “But I figured if you kept insisting to be up and about, it meant you were feeling better.”
“I am,” nodded Raphael with a smile.
They sat in companionable silence as they ate, and much to Raphael’s relief, Lily seemed to be having an easier time keeping everything down. The food he had brought with him was completely gone a little while later, and they both glanced over at the town when one of the afternoon bells sounded in the distance.
Lily sighed as she moved to get up.
“I better get these herbs back to Adan before it gets too late,” she said, as she adjusted the full pouch that was slung over her shoulder.
Raphael nodded as he stood and stretched his arms over his head.
“I’ll head back with you,” he said. “Flissa looked like she could use some help.”
He secretly hoped Hannah and Krem would be gone by the time he got there, but he wasn’t expecting luck to be on his side. He supposed he could just stick to the back room so he could avoid any other misunderstandings with her, but what if Flissa asked him to help her out front? What if Hannah was still there and -
Lily’s concerned voice snapped him out his spiraling thoughts.
“Are you okay?”
Raphael quickly nodded and waved a hand dismissively. It didn’t seem like Lily knew about his run-in with Hannah yet, and he didn’t want her to worry about it.
“Yep,” he replied. “Shall we get going?”
The look she gave him made it clear that she didn’t really believe him, but he was grateful that she didn’t pry. She gave him a small nod before slowly walking towards the hidden path back to Haven, and he fell into step beside her once they reached the small forest.
“Oh, I almost forgot,” said Lily, as she reached into her coat pocket, pulling out a small, glass jar filled with elfroot salve. “Adan mentioned you ran out a few days ago.”
Raphael was about to tell her that he was already completely healed and that it really wasn’t necessary, but Lily merely placed the jar in his hand with a small, cheeky grin before he could even get the words out.
“You should have it ready in case you decide to carry more potatoes around.”

“I love you. You enormously stubborn pain in the ass.” For Hannah and Raphael? (Can't imagine why, lol).
Thank you! OMG, this prompt just… went off on me. How dare. These were supposed to be quick prompts! *weeps* Anyway, have some post-Drops Raphael and Hannah having… a time. Raphael Trevelyan belongs to @out-of-the-embers
-
The commotion in the kitchen reached Hannah’s ears in a vague sort of way that she was able to ignore at first. She figured their serving girl had returned from the town with her purchases and was making more fuss about it than usual. Then she heard a choked cry of pain and her whole body ran cold.
Raphael.
She would recognize her husband’s voice anywhere so she was up and running before her mind could process what she had heard. The scene that greeted her chilled her even further: Raphael was sitting on one of the chairs surrounded by three of their stablehands - shirtless - his face screwed up with pain. There was extensive redness around his shoulder and streaks of grey that looked like rapidly forming bruises. She was at his side at once.
“What happened?” she asked in a voice that sounded shrill even to her own ears.
“Dislocated shoulder, ma’am,” one of the men supplied helpfully. “We set it right already.”
“What?” she said and pinned him with a glare. What was his name again? George? “How did that happen?”
“Hannah, I’m fine,” Raphael said from beside her and it only slightly alleviated her panic.
She rounded on him instead. “What happened?” she growled.
Raphael shrugged his uninjured shoulder, but the movement still sent ripples of pain through his body and he hissed.
“He was trying to ride that new stallion we got last week and the horse threw him off against the railing,” the man supplied helpfully. “Nothing too terribly scary, especially if Lady Rutherford uses her magic to speed up the healing.”
Hannah wasn’t going to correct George on how much healing magic Lily actually knew, not when she felt dizzy from relief and roiling frustration; she reached for another chair, pulled it closer, and collapsed into it.
There were many words she wanted to say to Raphael, all of them crowding to the tip of her tongue, but she refused to say any of them while the others were still around. Instead, she watched as the men put Raphael’s shirt back on, wrapped up his shoulder to immobilize it, and went back outside to finish their chores. Or perhaps they sensed that the upcoming conversation was not exactly for their ears.
Hannah didn’t waste any time.
“What were you thinking,” she said the moment the last footsteps died away. “You said it yourself: that stallion is too skittish to be ridden just yet. What possessed you to saddle him up?”
Raphael made a show of rolling his eyes, his jaw set at a defiant angle.
“I know what I’m doing,” he said evenly. “He was responding really well to my presence and I decided to take a risk. It didn’t pay off so shit happened, end of story.”
Hannah wanted to scream.
“You could have broken your neck!” she said, her voice rising momentarily. She needed to get a hold of herself. She took a few deep breaths and started again, this time sounding calmer. “Raphael, you don’t have to take these unnecessary risks. It would be really fucking stupid if you had survived Corypheus only to be killed by a bucking horse. And I’m not ready to be a widow just yet!”
A note of understanding finally flickered in Raphael’s eyes and his grumpy expression softened significantly. He reached out his uninjured hand to her.
“Come here,” he said.
Hannah considered grumbling some more, but decided against it. Instead, she moved her chair next to his and sat down, still trying to hold onto her pissy mood - and failing.
“Mi alma,” Raphael started, took one of her hands and lifted it up to his lips for a short kiss. “I know what I’m doing,” he repeated. “But I also recognize this has upset you and for that, I am sorry.” His thumb was rubbing gentle circles against her knuckles, the gesture calming her better than any words ever could. “I promise I’ll be careful in the future, alright?”
She sighed. Deep down inside, she knew that Raphael would continue doing what he felt best, regardless of danger, and that it was who he was as a person. Hannah didn’t want to continue fighting with him either, so she leaned in and placed a soft kiss on his cheek.
“I love you, you stubborn pain in the ass,” she said with rising humor.
A small smile appeared on Raphael’s face.
“Does that mean I’m forgiven?”
Hannah schooled her expression.
“Not a chance,” she told him. “You’re sleeping with the dogs tonight.”
Raphael looked at her skeptically and Hannah only lasted a few moments before she burst out laughing.
“Okay, fine, you’re forgiven,” she said and kissed him again. “But only because you’re cute.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“I’m glad I have some redeeming qualities.”
Hannah only laughed more in return.

Got tagged by @partsofthesamecosmicbeing and I’m a little... unsure of what was the last thing I wrote as I tend to jump back and forth when writing so have a bit of three things.
Dragon Age:
So when Duncan, the famed Grey Warden, shows up, Alex can’t help but hope that he will take him away from Highever, take him away from the family castle, take him away from being treated as a second rate peasant.
The Darkness Within:
Maria had been an excellent bartender since she was 15, even if it was only alcohol free drinks, Michael thought with a smile. He too had been at Mimi Deluca’s school of bartending once when they were 15, and Maria really did excel at it. He had no doubt that she would make an even better bartender when she turned 19 and was allowed to serve alcohol.
Mechanic Michael:
It’s a nice car but he knows the shocks have seen better days since the ride is bumpier than it should be. Serves him right for buying a car without taking anyone to check it out with him. Like oh, his mechanic boyfriend.
Tagging @lire-casander @andrea-lyn because you guys weren’t tagged in the other post and I’m curious okay.
Also, @hannah-writes. DRAGON AGE!

I finally got around to cleaning the calendar which I’ve used to keep track of our RP since like 10th campaign. It is pretty much as accurate I can get it, so I consider it canon-ish (also bc no one as far as I know, has contested me with their own one :P), but I might tweak it every now and then. I’m putting this out here now, mainly for the ease of accessibility for me and our other GMs, since it seems we have started to run into more questions of “when did this happen?” -kind as of late. I’ll try to update this at least once a campaign.

Spoiler free Ascension timeline.
Late Fall 8:77 Blessed: Loghain Mac Tir is born near Ostwick to Caitlín, a brewer, and the daughter of a carpenter, and Gareth, a third generation horse breeder and trainer, and former mayor of Ostwick, before the Orlesians did away with local elections. Both of his parents were freeholders.
5th Wintermarch 8:78 Blessed: Rowan Guerrin is born to Arl Rendorn and  Arlessa Marina Guerrin (nee Aurum) in Redcliffe.
30th Bloomingtide 8:78 Blessed: Maric Theirin is born to the Rebel Queen, Moira, in Carthal's Crossing. His father, Dermot was the great-nephew of Teyrn Voric of Gwaren, and died, of the disease which caused the Hundred Days Cough in Orlais, before Moira even knew she was pregnant.
Winter of 8:83 Blessed: Adaia is born in Denerim to Hannah and Jacob, both servants in the home of King Meghren.
5th Haring 8:84 Blessed: Eamon cursed the world with his presence.
14th Justinian 9:86 Blessed: Caitlín is murdered by Orlesian soldiers. Three days later, Gareth kills her killers, and he and Loghain flee into the woods, now outlaws.
Sometime during strawberry season in the Dales 8:87 Blessed: Fiona is born in Montsimmard, technically the first human city outside the Dales, but for all practical reasons part of the Dales, to Sara, a washerwoman and lacemaker, and Enasal, a servant in the home of a noblewoman of a middling rank. Because of the absence of people who knew her as a child, narrowing down her age beyond strawberry season is difficult; if her mother didn't make her pound cake with strawberries and cream every year for her birthday, knowing even this would be difficult.
Late summer 8:87 Blessed: Duncan is born to Arryn, a carpenter born in Ferelden, and Tayana, also a carpenter, though one born in Rivain, in Highever.
30th Bloomingtide 8:91 Blessed: On Maric's thirteenth birthday, Rowan's father and mother join the rebellion, and Maric and Rowan are engaged to be married. (I'm iffy about this? Rowan's father seems to have joined the rebellion after Rowan was old enough to stay with the camp and not be sent away with her brothers, but she and Maric are also childhood friends? Bioware's math is shitty to deal with.)
14th August 8:91 Blessed: Teagan is born to the Guerrins.
2nd Harvestmere: Thinking herself healed enough, Mariana arrives in Denerim and she and the boys begin their trip to the Free Marches to stay with her family until the boys are old enough.
Early spring 8:95 Blessed: Fiona's parents die. She's enslaved by Comte Dorian De Rais.
19th Solace 8:96 Blessed: Moira killed. Maric and Loghain's epic bromance begins.
7th Justinian 8:98 Blessed: The Fereldan rebels, led by the young Prince Maric, take the isolated port town of Gwaren, their first major victory since the death of Queen Moira. (except for the day and month copypastaed from the wiki.)
18th Cloudreach 8:99 Blessed: At the battle of West Hill, the Fereldan rebel army is devastated by the royalist forces. Survivors retreat to Gwaren. Maric is presumed dead.
14th of Kingsway 9:01 Dragon: Fiona kills the Comte and goes to the Circle.
18th of Kingsway 9:01 Dragon: Fiona is recruited by Kell to join the Wardens after Hafter runs away from him and he finds her in the dungeon. He insists she be trained and says he'll come to collect her after she is of age.
20th of Kingsway 9:01 Dragon: Fiona is harrowed, being given no training in the hopes it kills her. It does not.
20th Haring 9:02 Dragon: Maric kills Meghren. Ferelden is freed.
15th Guardian 9:03 Dragon: Maric is crowned.
Late winter 9:04 Dragon: Briala is born. Her parents names are lost to history, though a look at the Valmont's record of servants, Seth and Tasmin, a married couple who both worked for the family seem most likely.
5th August 9:04 Dragon: Celene is born to Princess Clarisse De Montfort and Prince Reynaud Valmont in Orlais.
18th Harvestmere 9:04 Dragon: Anora is born to Celia and Loghain.
4th Drakonis 9:05 Dragon: Cailan is born to Rowan and Maric.
9:06 Dragon: Fiona joins the Wardens
15th or 16th Kingsway 9:08 Dragon: Rowan dies.
9:09 Dragon: Duncan is forced to join the Wardens.
Late Haring 9:09 Dragon: Fiona and crew enter Deep Roads with Maric.
23rd Guardian 9:10 Dragon: River Dane Cousland born.
Drakonis 9:10 Dragon: Maric and Fiona deep roads and Chill.
Early spring 9:10 Dragon: Da'assan born to Adaia and Cyrion.
18th Haring 9:10 Dragon: Alistair born in Weisshaupt in the Anderfels.
Spring of 9:11 Dragon: Fiona and Duncan reach Ferelden. They give Maric Ali and Maric gives Ali to Eamon to raise. Duncan stays in Denerim to start up the warden branch there with Polara. Fiona returns to Montsimmard where she's made Warden Constable.

“Is that my shirt?” for Hannah and a partner of her choice :)
Thank you for the prompt! This was supposed to be quick and easy. Then things escalated and now I’m at like... 500 words. SORRY! Only, ya know, not :P Here’s some Hannah and Raphael, being cute and cuddly. Raphael Trevelyan belongs to @out-of-the-embers
-
Raphael was exhausted beyond all words, so when he finally found the doors to his quarters, he felt like weeping with relief. He had accompanied Lily and some of her Inner Circle on an errand that felt stupid in retrospect, but needed to be done anyway, so he had been gone from Skyhold almost an entire week. He missed his bed, he missed bathing, and he missed being with Hannah. Thankfully, she would be on the other side and he couldn’t wait to be there.
Knowing it was well past the change of nightwatch, he did his best to quietly open the door and slip inside. There was no light inside, only the dying embers in the fireplace giving a warm glow to the room, so it took Raphael a moment to get used to the dark. He took great care to silently divest himself of his clothes and put away his gear. Any time he heard a sound from the bed, he stilled, hoping against hope he wouldn’t wake Hannah with his shuffling. Once he was down to his sleeping clothes, he slid into their bed, taking care to not disturb the sheets.
He wasn’t careful enough.
He saw her shift around a little, still, then turn around with a questioning grumble. It took three long heartbeats before she rasped quietly, “Raphael?”
He immediately felt guilty.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you. I wanted--” he whispered and stopped, when he found himself getting tackled onto his back.
Hannah was warm and soft in his arms, her quickened breath a pleasant caress against his neck. Maker, this was exactly what he had missed and he pressed her even closer to his chest, relishing their reunion.
“I missed you,” she mumbled into his collarbone.
He placed a gentle kiss against her temple. “I missed you too.”
He trailed idle hands against her back, both to soothe her unspoken worry and to once again commit to memory the shape of her body. She was wearing a peculiar nightshirt, its fabric much coarser than he was used to, and it took him a moment to realize what his senses were trying to tell him.
“Hannah, are you wearing my shirt?”
“No,” she said immediately in an obvious lie. She paused. “Maybe?”
Raphael chuckled.
“I’m not mad. I’m just curious.”
Whatever tension his discovery caused in her body, it slowly melted away at his admission. She cuddled even closer, their bodies now impossibly melded together, and gave him a timid little kiss.
“When you’re gone,” she started in a still-rough voice, “I get incredibly lonely at night, so when it gets too much to bear, I will wear one of your shirts to bed and pretend you're right there with me.”
Something peculiar happened within Raphael’s chest, where his heart squeezed almost painfully while his lungs expanded more than his ribs could contain. He leaned in just enough to press his lips to hers and he kissed her; once, twice, three times.
“I’m here now,” he whispered. “And I love you.”
She hummed in reply and he felt her mouth stretch into a smile.
“I love you, too.”
And just like that, all was right in the world.

“What are you doing here? It’s late.” for the pairing of your choice! 😘
I swear, I know this came from a fluffy prompts list, but I am that extra bitch that can make ANY prompt angsty. At least there are cuddles. That’s fluffy, right? I was going to try a different pairing, but it didn’t work out. So, have some Hannah/Raphael instead :) This is before they start cohabiting in Drops of Satina :) Thank you for the prompt! Raphael was just about to crawl into bed for the night when a soft knock at the door made him pause. A quick glance out the window reminded him of how late it was and he wondered who in the blazes could be visiting him at this hour. He frowned. It couldn’t be an emergency; if he had been desperately needed, the knocking would have been much more urgent.
He was just about to open the door when he stopped to ask.
“Who is it?”
There was an audible pause and a very soft, “It’s Hannah.”
He almost ripped the door off its hinges, he opened it so fast. On the other side stood Hannah, wrapped in a shawl, looking around as if she was being watched. He tilted his head.
“What are you doing here?” he asked. “It’s late.”
His question must have triggered something unpleasant within her, because her eyes went a little wide and wild, and she took a step back.
“This was a stupid idea,” she murmured and turned to leave.
If he had wondered if something was wrong, now he was certain. Before she could go more than three steps, he caught up with her and wrapped his arms around her. She didn’t fight him - thank fuck - but she was stiff and unyielding in his arms; something he wasn’t used to.
“Hannah, what’s wrong?” he asked quietly and looked around. There was a guard at the door to the main hall and he looked eager to catch any gossip their conversation might provide. “Let’s go inside, alright? Let’s talk without anyone listening.”
He waited with a baited breath until Hannah nodded her consent and he ushered her into his room the moment she did. He had no idea how to proceed from here, but he figured that listening to her would be a good first step. He pulled a chair in front of the dying fireplace, gently pushed her to sit in it, and then squatted at her knees, eager to help in any way he could. At such a close distance, he could see the slightly swollen eyes and traces of moisture on the cheeks - she had been crying.
“Talk to me, mi alma,” he said softly.
She wouldn’t meet his eyes, which he hated because he couldn’t tell her thoughts by the blank expression she liked to wear. Instead, she sniffled a little and stared at her hands folded in her lap.
“I had a bad dream,” she started, paused, then scoffed at herself. “Maker, I sound so dumb. I shouldn’t be taking up your time.”
She tried to get up, but Raphael kept his hands heavy against her knees, keeping her in place. When he finally managed to catch her eyes, he bore his gaze into her with all the love and affection he felt for her.
“I am here for you the same way you were there for me when I needed it most,” he said slowly, with meaning. “I love you. What can I do to make you feel better?”
He must have gotten lucky and said the right thing, because instead of pushing him away, Hannah seemed to visibly deflate. She looked down at her hands again and sighed heavily.
“As I said, I had a nightmare,” she started, her voice brittle and soft. “I don’t get this particular nightmare often, but when it happens, I usually wake up screaming. And falling back asleep tends to be a really bad idea.”
A distant memory tugged at Raphael and he furrowed his brow.
“The darkspawn?” he asked quietly.
Hannah looked up at him, surprised he remembered, but then she shook her head ‘no’.
“Then what is it?” He paused, then reconsidered. “Do you want to talk about it?”
She shook her head ‘no’, again.
“Could I just stay here for the night?” she asked almost timidly. “I don’t want to be alone with my thoughts right now.”
“Yes, of course,” he said before she even finished talking. “Absolutely.”
He was on his feet and helping her up almost at once. A brief flash of an amused smile echoed across Hannah’s face and Raphael counted that as a small victory against whatever demons marred her thoughts. She dressed down to her night shift and slipped into his bed as he held the blankets up. Once he hopped in as well, it was a question of moments before he pulled her into his arms and wrapped her in the tightest hug he dared to give.
Slowly, gradually, he felt her body relax against him. His fingers traveled idly up and down her back; he hoped the soft caress further helped ease her troubled mind and with some degree of happiness, he felt her snuggle closer into the crook of his neck. A soft, tired sigh escaped her mouth and gently wafted across his chest.
Soon, she was asleep, and while Raphael stayed up as long as he could to keep watch over her dreams, he too succumbed to his body’s demands. As he drifted off, all he could think about was Hannah and her weight against his side.

Y. Tears for Hannah? Pretty please
Thanks! :D I got some serious grief for writing this, but oh well. ANGST AHOY EVERYBODY!
Words: 216
-
Hannah was practicing her trigonometry formulas when a shy knock on the door frame pulled her out of a studious concentration. When she looked up, she saw the old, wrinkled face of her teacher who stared back at her with pain and pity.
“Hannah,” he said slowly and lifted a hand holding a crumpled piece of paper. “There’s news. Out of Highever.”
The brief joy and hope of getting a letter from her parents quickly fizzled out as she watched her Master find a nearby stool and sit down.
“There was an attack,” he started, pinning her in place with his heavy gaze. “It is unknown as to who orchestrated it, but the castle was sacked and everybody within it were murdered in cold blood.”
Hannah stared back, her mind unwilling to connect the dots of what he was trying to tell her, though her eyes were already blurring with unshed tears.
“Have you heard anything about my parents?” she asked quietly. “My brothers?”
The Master shook his head.
“I’m sorry, child, but they’re all gone.”
The floor felt unforgiving under her knees on the way down, though the pain was nothing compared to the rapidly growing void in her chest. She wailed loudly and cried, grieving the family she was never going to see again.

J for mini fic
Thank you! This turned out extra fluffy :D I decided to go for Drops of Satina verse Raphael/Hannah. I hope you forgive me how much I leaned into this ;)
J. When words aren’t enough.
Words: 263
-
Hannah stared, speechless.
They were under her favorite tree in the Skyhold garden, but instead of setting up their usual spot for an afternoon picnic, Raphael had set all his stuff down, took her hands, dropped to one knee and spoke words that she still had problems processing properly.
“Hannah, mi alma,” he had said. “Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
She couldn’t move, her mouth didn’t work, and all she could do was look at him in shock, convinced she had heard wrong.
“You…” she started and then swallowed thickly. “You want to marry me?”
Raphael nodded eagerly and she noted the beginnings of panic forming behind his eyes.
“More than I can express with words,” he said.
A blanket of calm fell over Hannah as she realized what it all meant. Warmth bloomed inside her chest, great happiness that threatened to spill over and drown her on the spot, so before she let herself get carried away with emotions, she nodded and uttered a very squeaky, “Yes.”
Raphael was on his feet in the blink of an eye, his large, warm hands cradling her face with tenderness, and his mouth pressed to hers, wet and soft and smiling.
“I love you,” he mumbled against her lips.
Hannah laughed. “I love you, too,” she replied and went right back to kissing her gorgeous man.
“I have a ring,” he tried telling her, but she wouldn’t let him pull away.
“Later,” she breathed against him. “I want to kiss you senseless first.”
Thankfully, he was not opposed to that.

Lazy Afternoon - Raphael Trevelyan/Hannah
Tumblr media
It’s been a while since I’ve written my adorable dorks from Drops of Satina, so I decided to whip out some quick fluff. If you had followed along with the challenge, it fits neatly after Chapter 14. Also, this is dedicated to @out-of-the-embers, who desperately needed something happy after having written an intensely emotional story.
Rating: Everyone (this is fluff, just saying) || Words: 1,081 || Pairing: Raphael Trevelayan/Hannah of Highever - Raphael belongs to @out-of-the-embers
-
Hannah was spending her midday meal - two hours late, of course - sitting under her favorite tree in the Skyhold gardens with a book in hand and a small basket of scavenged food at her side. She wondered if she should have waited for Raphael, but after a brief conversation with Varric, she knew it could be hours before he’d be available. So she quietly munched on her cheese, crackers and fruit, and delved into the newest adventure story by the resident writer.
She wasn’t sure exactly how much time had lapsed when she heard the door to the Great Hall open and close with an ominous thud. Whoever had walked through was in a particularly foul mood, because the footsteps that echoed off the stone floor were loud and angry. It didn’t surprise Hannah in the least when she saw Raphael rounding the paved pathway, his face folded into the grumpiest expressions she’d ever seen him wear.
The moment he noticed her, his shoulders relaxed ever so slightly in relief and his mouth shifted into a soft, happy smile; the fact that seeing her made such a difference in his countenance had all sorts of butterflies take flight in Hannah’s stomach, her own face reflecting his expression. He bee-lined straight for her spot and sat down next to her.
“Hello,” he said softly.
“Hello,” she replied with a smile. She reached one hand to cradle his cheek and brought him closer for a kiss.
In all honesty, Hannah still wasn’t used to this kind of intimacy with Raphael. It had been two days since he had first kissed her on the dance floor and then proclaimed his desire to court her; it had felt like a fairy tale come true. He had spent a lot of his free time around her, talking, laughing -- kissing.
“How did it go?” she asked quietly.
He briefly dropped his forehead to her shoulder and lightly rubbed against it.
“Long. Frustrating. Pointless,” he counted out and lifted his head again. His eyes were a little red-rimmed and he looked exhausted. “Frankly speaking, I am so done trying to rehash everything that happened at the Winter Palace. Leliana and Josephine keep asking me the same questions, over and over again, as if my story might change from one moment to another. I even wrote a fucking report for them! Still, it never seems to be enough.”
Hannah kissed him lightly again.
“They’re probably just trying to be thorough,” she pointed out. “At least it’s over?”
He grimaced. “For today.”
To distract him from further dark thoughts, Hannah reached for her basket and put it in his lap.
“Are you hungry? I brought extra food, since I figured you wouldn’t have eaten during the meeting,” she said and pulled the napkin away. “There’s some cold chicken legs, cheese, bread and grapes. I had apples too, but I ate those already. Sorry.”
Raphael’s face lit up as he took stock of the basket and immediately grabbed one of the chicken legs.
“You’re the best,” he announced and leaned in to place a sound kiss on her cheek. “Thank you.”
That made Hannah laugh.
“You’re welcome.”
Hannah thought she’d let him eat in peace while she finished reading the current chapter of her book, but the speed with which Raphael was consuming his food was both distracting and awe-inspiring. She watched, mesmerized, while everything seemed to vanish before her eyes as he happily chomped away. Soon enough he was done, licking his fingers clean and wiping himself with the napkin.
“Do we need to make another trip to the kitchens to grab you more food?” Hannah asked, amused by his antics.
He shook his head.
“No need,” he said. “This should carry me over until dinnertime.”
Then he proceeded to lay down on his back and placed his head in Hannah’s lap. She stared down at him, surprised.
“Excuse me?” she asked. “What are you doing?”
A slow, lazy grin spread across his face as he carefully readjusted his position.
“Well, I ate and now I’m sleepy, so I figured I’d take a nap,” he explained. “And since I so rudely interrupted your reading time, you’ll be able to return to your book!”
Hannah gaped at him for a few seconds, gobsmacked, then burst out laughing.
“I was reading to pass the time until you showed up, you dork!” she exclaimed, then shook her head in exasperation. “I thought you wanted to spend time with me.”
Raphael sobered up at once, though his eyes remained soft. He gently picked up one of her hands and pressed her palm to his lips for a feather-light kiss.
“I did. And I am,” he said and shifted her hand to kiss her fingers. “I can think of no better way to spend my time than to gaze at your beautiful face as I drift off to sleep.”
The effect his words had on her was immediate; Hannah felt her face heat at a record speed, which meant she probably now resembled a tomato. She made a little indignant noise and tried her best to hide from his stare - and failed.
“You said that just to fluster me,” she muttered and looked away. She pressed the back of her free hand to her cheeks in hopes it would help cool them down.
“Said t’ truth,” he mumbled in response and fell silent.
Confused, Hannah looked down and saw that Raphael was well on his way to being fast asleep, while he held her hand captive against his face.
Seriously? This quickly???
As if hearing her thoughts, Raphael shifted a little, rumbled something incoherent, and went still against her.
Whether she wanted to be there or not, Hannah was stuck. She probably could have moved Raphael’s head out of her lap, but she didn’t have the heart to jostle him; once the Fade had claimed him, his face relaxed and all the worry lines smoothed out, leaving a peaceful expression that melted her heart. Yes, he was an attractive man, but it was in moments like these, when he completely let his guard down, that Hannah truly found him beautiful.
As soft snores started issuing from his mouth, Hannah slowly pushed her other hand into Raphael’s hair, caressing it. Perhaps this wasn’t how she had envisioned their time together, but she’d be a fool to complain. Instead, she enjoyed the quiet moment together as she traced idle shapes into his scalp.

Character Curiosity Tuesday! Did Hannah ever imagine she would end up in a relationship like the one she has with Raphael? What has surprised her?
Oh man, good question! :D
At the point that she meets Raphael in Drops of Satina, Hannah has almost given up on finding a relationship that might suit her - or at least she’s put all of that on hold. Being a part of the Inquisition was going to be a huge stepping stone in her career and she was really focused on keeping her head down and doing her job. I think she may have even low-key given up on men; she’s bisexual and she figured that if there was a person who could put up with her nonsense, it’d be another woman with a similar background. So yeah, getting into a relationship with Raphael was a ‘left field’ kind of a situation for her ;)
I think the biggest surprise was that Raphael actually respected her. It’s really depressing to think about, at the end of the day, but in her experience she has not been able to find an overlap in the Venn diagram between men she might be interested in and men who respected her. So to find a guy who not only was hot as fuck, but who gave her freedom and ability to be herself? It was a shock. Then, as she got to know him more and more, she learned that his grumpy exterior was just a shield against the shittiness of the world - very much like her own - and that he was actually a sweet and caring individual who liked to cuddle a lot.
And last but not least, the biggest surprise was that after having the WORST luck with men from nobility, she ended up falling in love with one. Later on, after she marries Raphael, she will occasionally remember that the name “Trevelyan” is attached to every major family in Thedas and her head spins for a little. It’s not a life she wants, but the possibility of it does sometimes tickle her fancy.
Thank you for your question! Sorry for getting wordy :P

I couldn’t stop thinking about Hannah wearing Raphael’s cloak ever since I read @kagetsukai‘s prompt so I decided to draw her being cozy and warm with it :3
