Guy went on continuing his dominance from the first set into the second set. Thanks to the combination of his anticipation and aggressive play, he came up with a timely lob from the middle of the court to break 1-0 before he consolidated the lead to 2-0. A game later, Guy took advantage of an erroneous service game with a forehand return ace to create his break point before doubling the break again (3-0), which was continued by a service game hold to 4-0.
Two consecutive games later, including Ali's hold of serve (while surviving a deuce at one point of that game), Guy's anticipative returns start to pay off: he started the game with a forehand winner, which pressed Ali's service game enough to finally serve the second set breadstick (6-1) due to a double fault, securing his path in the quarterfinals.

The Izzy Hands Is Autistic PowerPoint Essay
(this is the essay i submitted to the above all else zine (@izzyhandszines ), the exclusivity period of which just ended. enjoy!!)
Hello!!
I would like to start off by saying I’m absolutely fucking terrified to write this essay for a variety of reasons. But I want to express my love of Izzy Hands and how important he is to me, and the best way I’ve found to do so is to express the weird ways I relate to him as an autistic person. I’ve joked in a couple friend circles that I was going to make a PowerPoint presentation about why Izzy’s autistic (hence the title) but I decided to write an essay instead.
Disclaimer: I’m not diagnosing anyone, nor do I want this essay to be used as a diagnostic paper. This is by no means an academic paper, it cites exactly one (1) study, it’s based on my own experiences, light research, and the experiences of my fellow autistic friends. I’m just a dumbass who likes imprinting themselves onto the characters they hyperfixate on.
Reason one why I think Izzy is autistic: because I’m autistic and I said so. *cue end credits*
I’m kidding.
The real first reason comes from Izzy’s interactions with Stede FUKIN’ Bonnet. For one, Stede hates Izzy almost the second he meets him. Now, you could argue that it was because Izzy “stole” his hostages but we’ll set that aside for a sec. It’s been proven that people inherently don’t like autistic people if they don’t realize they’re autistic (Neurotypical Peers are Less Willing to Interact with Those with Autism Based on Thin Slice Judgements by Noah J. Sasson (2017)). Traits that are often put towards “untrustworthy” or “creepy” people tend to describe autistics too. It’s entirely possible Stede caught a vibe and hated Izzy because of it. Stede is kind of an asshole after all (and we still love him for it). Another reason is Stede’s entire existence throws a wrench in Izzy’s routines as a First Mate. He whisks Edward away to do pirate-y things while Izzy is left to deal with a crew who frankly want nothing to do with him because he’s introducing structure on a ship that didn’t have any to begin with. Sure Izzy came off as an asshole (emotional regulation is a bitch) but he’s just a lil guy trying to follow his routines so nobody dies. He has the worst case of sense of justice. He’ll complain that an ambush is “unprofessional”, he’ll play fair in a duel even if it’s to his detriment, he’ll chase Edward around asking for a plan because Bad Things happen without a plan, the list goes on.
I’d like to dedicate this section to his stimming/eye contact/other little habits that make me think he’s autistic. Izzy has a tendency to touch his face when he’s stressed. Not just that, he’ll wrap an arm around himself and rest his hand on his chin so he can fidget with his beard, as if to self soothe. When he’s talking to people, unless he’s threatening them or yelling at them, he doesn’t look them in the eye. Often he’s not even facing them. When he is facing them, he often looks down at their lips, as if he’s struggling with eye contact. He walks around with his hand resting on his sword either because he’s short and the sword will touch the ground if he doesn’t or because it’s more comfortable for him to have his arm up near his chest. This is often referred to as T-rex arms and a lot of us find it more comfortable than letting our arms rest at our sides. He’s a little pyromaniac, he seems to use candle fire to soothe himself. He’s done it at least twice, once while he was lying to Edward about Stede’s response to meeting Blackbeard and once while talking to Spanish Jackie about Stede in her bar. He sleeps in his underwear like a WHORE (affectionate) which could be argued is temperature regulation because a lot of autistics (myself included) H A T E being overheated. Then there’s the ooh daddy scene. From my little list I made prior to this essay, “ooh daddy scene (thank u conbert), yes i have an explainiation for this. a weird ass intimidation tactic? sure. however what if he can’t read social queues and doesn’t fully realize how fucking weird it was to do that”.
Then there’s his glove. I could dedicate an entire essay on speculation on that fucking glove. Is it hiding something? Is it just to look cool? Is it a sensory thing where he doesn’t like the texture of his sword so he wears the glove to make sword fighting easier? We may never know. Or we might in s2 who knows. Speaking of sword fighting it could be argued by me that because Izzy is supposed to be the best swordsman in the world, sword fighting could be his special interest. He probably spent hours perfecting every move until he got to the level of carving his name into a man’s shirt without leaving a single scratch on him.
We’ve seen Izzy have at least one meltdown re: the duel. He’s losing the duel, the crew are jeering at him, Stede isn’t helping, he finally screams at him before his sword breaks. We’ve also seen him have a shutdown where after Edward goes below deck after realizing his plan against the Spanish isn’t going to work because it’s a leap year, Izzy is in the foreground of Frenchie and Lucius staring off into space. It’s possible that after everything he went through that day and the realization that he’s going to die made him completely shut down.
I have no proof of this since we never really see izzy by himself but I don’t believe in the entire time Izzy has been subjected to the constant torture of being alive and autistic in the late 1600 early 1700s he has unmasked even once. When living in such close quarters with other people and being First Mate to the physical embodiment of ADHD he probably doesn’t get a lot of time to himself. Therefore he has to cope with his existence in other ways, as mentioned above. And the crew of The Revenge have ruined almost every way he uses to cope and manage his autism. We’ll have to wait and see what other horrors unfold for this poor little autistic man, but for now all we can do is pick him apart and see what’s under the hood.

Week 4 Blog
This week I read pages 150-190 of the book “Princess” by Jean P. Sasson.
The most important sentence would have to be on page 173, “All thoughts of a daughter vanished when my yawning son was placed in my arms.” This is an important sentence because this sentence is another turning point in the story. Sultana delivered her first child, her son. As much as she wanted a daughter she had a son. She said that later on in her life a daughter would possibly come and the moment she held her baby she was content with having a son. She said she’d raise him not to be like the guys in the previous generation, she would teach him not to be “backward in his thinking” and to respect his sisters. He would also learn to love his partner. She felt that with her son she could start a new path for Saudi Arabian Women.
When reading I felt very happy for her. I was rooting for her to have a daughter but when she explained how she’d raise her son and what she’d teach him, I felt that it was right for her to have a son. Like Sultana said, “A daughter would come later.” I love her mindset, I love how she wants to change the history of Saudi women for the better. Sultana could’ve lived her life listening to those who told her not to speak out and mindlessly respect men no matter how they act or what they say. Instead she constantly thinks about her future and the future of many other women dealing with the same thing. It’s inspiring to see her continue to fight for a better life without giving up. I hope that her and her son do end up influencing many generations that end up respecting women as much as men in Saudi Arabia.

NOTES: Two days before the show closed on Broadway. Good amount of closeups and good quality filmed from the mid-mezzanine; there is a railing issue for a while in Act 1 but the taper improves. 'Me', 'Gaston' and 'Be Our Guest' are all predominantly missing and recording stopped for some time after 'Gaston', which created a little jump in the timeline to where Maurice gets thrown out of the tavern. Still a nice video with great closeups of the last Broadway cast.

This is the first (and so far, only) video with Kiril Kulish in the role of Billy. Unfortunately about 15 minutes of the show is missing due to battery issues. What's missing is: Grandma's song "We Go Dancing", the scene between Dad and Tony, the beginning of "Deep Into The Ground", and the scene between Mrs. Wilkinson and Dad discussing Billy's ballet. It appears the filmer was trying to conserve battery power and was trying to focus on Billy's scenes. DVD has been enhanced with main menu and thumbnail images for access to the various songs. A-

A very solid and funny cast. Nikki does a fantastic job acting and vocally. On wide shots there can be heads on the sides, but nothing that really obstructs the action. During Broadway previews, less than a month before the official premiere. So there are differences from the Cast Recording. Very nice video of the show however a bar can be visible in wide shots but it doesn't interfere with anything.

Pierce is perfect as McKinley. Tallia also does a great job; she has a strong belt and does an endearing rendition of Sal Tlay Ka Siti. This is a very nice capture with no obstruction or blackouts, and only a bit of washout in superwide shots of high-contrast scenes. The video is very steady and the sound is excellent as usual. It’s filmed in 16:9 with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. Includes curtain call.

do you guys know of any wlw groupies or artists who had them? i feel like i remember reading stevie nicks had some female groupies.
miss lucy and miss mercy of the gto’s were bisexual and dated girls before they joined the group. janis joplin had female groupies and lovers, she was in a relationship with peggy caserta but they didn’t identify it as a lesbian relationship. dusty springfield was a lesbian who had relationships with norma tanega and lois sasson (her partner of over 30 years). janis ian is also a lesbian, currently married to patricia snyder. stevie was rumoured to have hooked up with sandra bernhard (who is bisexual) and even sheryl crow, but these are probably just rumours. she most likely had female fans and groupies but it’s unknown if there was ever any intimacy at this point in time
there were probably a lot of lesbian and bisexual groupies who had to be kept secret due to the rampant homophobia and sexism of the time, hopefully they’ll become more comfortable to share their stories now!

honestly everything was beautiful i’m so glad i got the chance to see it and i highly recommend if you have the chance!

TBV Tour Cast Experiences
I was fortunate enough to see The Band’s Visit on tour a little while ago. I got to stage door (I was literally the only person standing at the stage door for the whole time). Here are my experiences with the cast (those whose names I was able to match with their faces, anyway lol)
Chilina Kennedy (Dina): She was so sweet. I literally had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat when I met her and thanked her for her performance because I was still so emotional from the show. I think she was a little weirded out by that but she handled it with the utmost grace. She asked me my name, shook my hand, and thanked me for coming to the show with such sincerity that I almost started crying again.
Sasson Gabay (Tewfiq): Y’all. This man is seventy years old and KILLING it. Not only did he give a fantastic performance, he was so, so kind at the stagedoor. He asked me if I was studying theatre, and I said that no, I wasn’t, but I would like to do so. He just seemed genuinely interested and I almost started crying (you’ll notice a theme here). He wished me luck. If you ever have the chance to meet him, do it (at the very least, you can say you met a minor celebrity in America and a star in Israel). Truly, though. I have only positive things to say.
Sara Kapner (Julia): She gave me the warmest smile and asked if I was “totally freezing standing out here” (I wasn’t, even though it was ~30 degrees F). Our interaction was brief, but she seemed so genuinely sweet.
Ronnie Malley (Camal): Actually introduced himself to me, which is why I remembered his name (I feel awful for not remembering names, but signatures were mostly illegible). Also asked me if I did theatre. I told him that I wanted to perform professionally, and he wished me luck very sincerely.
Other: Okay, I feel awful for not remembering these men’s names, but their signatures were so so illegible and they did not introduce themselves (nor did I recognize them off the top of my head). One of them, bless his heart, signed my playbill and asked if I’d gotten to meet everybody yet. I said no, I was still waiting, and he literally went back inside to tell people that I was outside. Seriously, I almost started crying because he absolutely did not have to do that (I think he felt bad because I was standing on the street by myself haha).
The other was pretty much hanging out by the stage door the whole time (he had some people that he knew and talked to for a while). He signed my playbill, asked me how I liked the show and if I’d gotten to meet Sasson. He also said he would go inside and check to see if anyone else was there, but I told him that the other guy had already. He made light conversation with me pretty much the whole time.
Wow, that was long. ANYway, idk if that even mattered, it was mostly just for me to write these down and remember them.

british mark 4 tanker crews from the first world war sound fucking wild. just a crew of eight guys in a box made of guns and metal, breathing smoke and engine fumes at like 160 degrees. if you want to turn left the one guy who can see anything has to pound his fist on the frame to get everyone’s attention before turning off the differential on the left. you got portholes all over this horrible machine so if some son of the kaiser tries to jump on top you can shoot him with your sidearm. oh and youre wearing a chainmail mask the whole time because the thing is made of tin and stray rocks can send fragments into your face. really makes you appreciate where sigfried sasson was coming from when he said he wanted to drive one through a london garden party to “see how they like our tanks then”
really just a nightmare machine for everyone involved, both inside and out

The wheelchair actions commenced today, one of which featured the first-round matches of the Quad Wheelchair Singles sector between fourth seed Guy Sasson and Ali Ataman. It turned out that there were two types of Quad Wheelchair matches that was also the case in this match, which was a regular competitive one and a demolition, depending on how one's return game went.
Just first point into the match, Guy came up with a forehand winner to set himself one point ahead while trying to press Ali from the baseline. However, Ali's +1 forehand error created the break point several points later before Guy's forehand return ace caused the early break to 1-0. Guy followed it up by swiftly consolidating to 2-0, but Ali's commencement of the subsequent service game with a double fault did not help: once again, Guy was caught ending that game with a break (3-0) thanks to another forehand return ace that created his break point at that game.
This was followed up by Guy's quick consolidation to 4-0 even if Ali equalized the point somewhere with a swift forehand return, but this turned out to be a potential demolition as he controlled the flow (including with an ace in one of his points in this game). Somehow, Ali had an initial game point created from his serve+1 foiled out of a similar error, but the said erratic service game did not help anything except for Guy to triple his break to 5-0, asserting his aggressive game even further. The fourth seed then earned his opportunity to serve for the bagel, and he successfully did (6-0) to close the first set.

Espo is my all time favourite hockey player (Duguay was my second favourite. His hair was glorious to watch as he skated. Those were the days before helmets were required.) And it helps that Espo had played for Chicago (for the gentleman), Boston (for friends and neighbors), and New York, where I had the pleasure of seeing these guys play rather often (my boss at the time was in charge of the corporate box at MSG, and he’d let me have the tix when no one else needed/wanted them). Good times.

Week 3 Blog
This week I read pages 109-150 of the book “Princess” by Jean P. Sasson.
The most important sentence would have to be on page 144, “It was time for my new beginning, another life.” This is an important sentence because this sentence marks a turning point in the story. Princess Sultana was getting married. In the book, Sultana says that her husband is one of the good ones. He’s someone who cares about her welfare and someone who “wanted a wife who would share pleasure, not just be an object of pleasure.” (Pg 138) When Sultana was preparing for her wedding she started to think differently and became thankful that she wasn’t in a relationship where her husband treats her like an object like her sister Naura. She thought that maybe women of Arabia could find happiness.
When reading I felt thankful for her too. I felt content and relieved that Kareem was good to her and did not treat her like an object like most men did in Saudi Arabia. It was nice to read that Sultana was happy to get married and start a new life with her husband. I was surprised that she even married someone like that. I wasn't expecting her to marry someone who was kind to her, I didn’t even think a guy like that existed in Saudi Arabia. I thought that all men had to be strict with their wives and daughters after reading about Ali and Sultana’s father and how they treated her. I’m glad Sultana can wind down a little and have a little freedom. After Sultana and Kareem got married they had their honeymoon in America and Sultana got to speak her mind and I honestly thought she was going to be punished for it. Instead Kareem was amazed and wanted to know more about her thoughts. I don’t know if I trust him all that much with Sultana’s heart. I want to know more about him and see if he changes in any way.

I don't have anything substantial to say about the band's visit performance I saw, everything was well executed and about as expected so I don't have much to dive in on. I'd say joshua grosso (telephone guy) had the best vocal performance, sasson gabay did a slightly softer tewfiq than I'm used to but he's been in the show so long I imagine anyone who's interested already knows, I found janet dacal's voice to be almost too high for the part (and I still don't know why they keep casting women in their 30s as dina, she's meant to be too old to have children) but anything I disliked vocally she made up for with strong acting, I'd forgotten about the knee-massage-train in "haled's song about love" until the second before it happened which really boosted how funny I found it, and the lyrics continue to slap. musical good.
