(SPOILERS FOR THE LAND OF STORIES) okay so sorta outing myself as a Land Of Stories fan, but who cares the it’s a great book series. So we all know the potion that can make any work of fiction real, and this potion worked on greek mythology. Greek mythology isn’t collectively seen as fiction though, majority does, but accent Greeks, and some people nowadays, see it as real. This is the same as the bible. i think donald and douglas are much more compelling when analyzed as two halves of the same coin tbh

because neither of them are the "better" dad. they both messed up. they both had ample opportunities to do better by their kids and squandered every single one. I'm not interesting in framing one of them as a hellspawn and the other just trying their best, I'm not interested in comparing and contrasting their parenting styles to prove which one fucked up their kids least. they both failed at being dads to me, end of story.

I am, however, very very interested in the relationship they have with each other. a petty childhood rivalry taken to the extreme, a mutual inability to move on from old wounds. both of them spending their lives obsessed with beating the other.

Donald, who couldn't ever fully process his anger at Douglas because he was dead and what are you supposed to tell the rest of your family? that the son they're grieving did illegal, immoral experiments on the kids now living in your basement? so instead he comes up with the grand plan to make them into heroes, to mold them into everything Douglas didn't want for them as a final jab to the brother he thinks is six feet under. and he constantly, constantly tells himself that this is for the greater good, that he's doing this to help the world and not just to stroke his own ego and finally win against Douglas. Because you can't speak ill of the dead but you sure as hell can repurpose their life's work for the exact opposite of what they wanted

and Douglas, who hasn't had 15 years of grief to temper his fury, being fully driven by his hatred towards Donald. who sees everything that happened between them as a betrayal, who is willing to burn as many bridges as he needs in order to get back at donald. he fixates on Adam, bree, and Chase rather than just making more bionic humans because they're his. they're his and donald took them in a move that managed to both damage douglas's ego and trigger his childish possessiveness of everything (and everyone) he creates. so he plots, and schemes, and ignores the kid still in his grasp (kids, if you're willing to acknowledge Daniel's existence) because taking back Adam, Bree, and Chase and proving that he's better than donald is more important than anything else

and just that- the narrative of anger and grief and bitterness and refusing to move on - is the most interesting part abt either of them

I think Thomas should also be Not From Wonderland like CaterpillarOS is but. what species. I wanna make him a Demon bc there are no demons yet & that feels Strange to me lol. But I was also thinking, since the Tamagotchi AU is canon, that Thomas could've been....revived? sort of??

like he was killed by Glitch and/or Macbeth, Toby turned back time on his body and Jane and/or Rowan performed the Cambion Ritual so Thomas could continue living.

Then he'd be half a demon & get sick ass horns and his eyes would be all red n stuff (even tho they'd already be read bc he's a white/albino rabbit). It'd also be a good moment to show that Red Actually Cares about her friends/subjects bc I'd imagine she'd be pretty distrau over not only almost loosing her to-be husband, but also her closest confidante/friend at the time.

The ONLY problem with this is that Cambions don't have a full Soul due to being part Demon, meaning that Thomas needs something to substitute that missing part of himself. I'm thinking blood bc, well, Red, duh. Technically that'd make him a Vampire (which is a subset of Demons in Arcadia) but like whatever nobody cares about the semantics except for me. Plus wond is supposed to be "off-kilter" anyway.
