Embodying the Spirit of the Good Samaritan:
A Call to Compassionate Love
The parable of the Good Samaritan, shared by our Lord Jesus Christ, exemplifies the essence of Christian love and compassion towards others, irrespective of their background or nationality. As followers of Christ, we are called to embody the spirit of this parable in our daily lives.
In the narrative, a Jewish man, journeying from Jerusalem to Jericho, fell victim to robbery and violence. Despite his desperate condition, two members of his own community—a priest and a religious leader—passed him by without extending aid or comfort (Luke 10:30-32).
However, it was a Samaritan, considered an outsider by the Jewish community, who demonstrated true compassion. Moved with pity, he tended to the wounded man's injuries and provided for his needs without hesitation (Luke 10:33-35).
This parable challenges us to broaden our understanding of who our neighbors are, beyond the confines of familiarity or shared identity. As Jesus succinctly stated, "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:39), emphasizing the universality of compassion and kindness.
The Samaritans, though marginalized and despised by the Jews, epitomize the unexpected vessel of God's grace and mercy in this story. Their willingness to aid a fellow human being in distress serves as a poignant reminder of God's call to love unconditionally, without prejudice or discrimination (Luke 10:36-37).
Reflecting on this parable prompts us to ponder:
Do I extend compassion to those outside of my immediate circle, regardless of their differences?
Am I willing to inconvenience myself to alleviate the suffering of others, as the Good Samaritan did?
How can I emulate Christ's love in practical ways within my community and beyond?
In what areas of my life do I need to broaden my definition of neighborliness, guided by the teachings of Jesus?
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, grant us the grace to embody the love and compassion demonstrated by the Good Samaritan. Help us to transcend barriers of prejudice and self-interest, and to see every individual as our neighbor, deserving of care and kindness. May our actions reflect the boundless love of Christ, who gave Himself for the redemption of all. In His holy name, we pray. Amen.

In this episode I explain Mill's distinction between three spheres of liberty that should not be prohibited by law of social pressure. They are: Liberty of conscience; liberty of tastes and pursuits; and liberty of combination (association) among individuals. I will also explain Mill's distinction between compelling persons from doing harm and compelling them to do acts of beneficence for others.

You know what I miss? I miss kindness and respect. I miss people genuinely caring about each other. I miss solidarity and unity in our society. I miss when people could think and believe different things but still show love and compassion for each other. I miss a world where opinions didn’t determine how we treated others. I miss the days when people were held accountable for their actions and…

Jeff Allen was on his way to work early one Sunday morning in 2019 during a Kansas City snowstorm. Predictably, he would soon join many other cars stuck on the side of the road. It looked like Jeff Allen wouldn’t be making it to work that day, until Dave Cochran came along. Dave was hooking up a chain and pulling cars out of the snow with his Suburban, which was 20-years old. ‍ This wasn’t just any vehicle, though. This also happened to be Dave’s home. He was down on his luck and only had this old vehicle to live in. But because of Dave Cochran and his unselfishness, Jeff Allen thankfully made it to work on time, and the Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman helped his team to a playoff victory against the Indianapolis Colts. You see, Dave didn’t know that Jeff was a professional athlete. Dave didn’t thumb his nose, laugh, and drive by the BMW stuck in the snow. Dave also didn’t see the color of the person’s skin, get back in his car, and drive off. Dave just did what he would have wanted someone else to do for him. ‍ Contrary to what the news and social media would have us believe, the world’s full of people doing good things. Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” We can be kind to others, not because we get rewarded, or the person is kind to us first, or even if the person looks like us. Rather we can be kind as a reflection of our character. We can’t help everyone, but we can help someone. We can’t do everything, but we can do something. How is our character? Do you throw up your hands and say that it’s hopeless? Do you return wrong for wrong? ‍ Martin Luther King said, “It’s always the right time to do what it’s right.” Using the inspiration of a man living out of his vehicle, we can be the reason someone else believes in the good of mankind today. . . . #InspirationalStory #KansasCityChiefs #JeffAllen #NFLPlayer #HomelessMan #DaveCochran #SuccessIsAChoice #GoodSamaritan #MLK #DoWhatIsRight #BeTheChange #Gandhi #RaceRelations #CharacterCounts https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj8J-DXuBAL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#DailyDevotion The First Good Samaritans
Tumblr media
#DailyDevotion The First Good Samaritans 2 Chron. 28:9-15 9But there was a prophet of the LORD; his name was Oded. He went out to meet the army coming home to Samaria. “You see,” he told them, “how the LORD, the God of your fathers, was so angry with Judah He put them into your hands and you killed them in a rage that reached heaven. 10And now you intend to put the people of Judah and Jerusalem under you as your male and female slaves. But aren't you, too, guilty of wrongs against the LORD your God? 11Now listen to me and send back these prisoners you have taken from your fellow Israelites, because the LORD is furious with you." 12Then some leaders of Ephraim, Azariah son of Jehohan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai, got up to oppose those coming home from the war. 13“Don't bring the prisoners here,” they told them. “You mean to make us guilty of this wrong against the LORD and add to our sins and guilt. Our guilt is already so great that the LORD is furious with Israel." 14So the armed men left the prisoners and the spoil in front of the leaders and the whole congregation. 15Then the men mentioned by name took charge of the prisoners and gave clothes from the spoil to all the naked. They dressed them, put sandals on them, gave them something to eat and drink, and anointed them. Carrying on donkeys all who were exhausted, they brought them to Jericho (the City of Palms) near their own people. Then they returned to Samaria. Even when the LORD uses wicked people to punish other wicked people He still holds those He used accountable for their actions. Here we see through the prophet Oded, it was ok for the northern tribes to have slain their brothers in the south and to plunder them of wealth. This was the LORD's punishment for the evil things Judah was doing under the leadership of King Ahaz. Apparently, the LORD does not want them to take the women and children captive to be their slaves. We see the reason for this in Leviticus 25 where the LORD commands, 39“When your fellow Israelite gets so poor he must sell himself to you, don't make him work like a slave... 42They are My servants, whom I brought out of Egypt, and must not be sold as slaves.” An Israelite could sell himself as a slave to another Israelite but he was not to be treated as a slave and he was to be released in the jubilee year. The LORD here we see is just to the northern tribes by sending them a prophet to warn them about this action they were about to undertake. If they take them as slaves the LORD's anger would burn against them also. The Israelites were guilty of many sins against the LORD as well. It was good enough for them to be the expression of the LORD's wrath and to kill and plunder their brothers in the south for their sins. Now leaders of Ephraim (which is Samaria and Israel also) hearing the words of the prophet believed him and went out to the army returning home with the prisoners. The army listened to their leaders and put the prisoners and the booty in front of them. These leaders then clothed the prisoners from the booty, fed and gave drink to the them and even anointed them. They brought them down close to Jericho, near their own people, carrying on donkeys those too exhausted to make the trip. Then they returned to Samaria. Yes, these men, because they believed the Word of the LORD were the first Good Samaritans. We believing the Word of our LORD Jesus Christ should see their example, and the example of our LORD who was a neighbor to us and do likewise to those in need. Heavenly Father, grant us faith to believe your Word and to merciful and kind to those needing it. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

Kentucky Man Saves Kids, His Former Teachers From Flooded Homes
A good Samaritan rescues nine people from floodwaters in his Eastern Kentucky community. Nathan Day, a former coal miner from Hindman, Kentucky, got a call early one morning last week from a neighbor asking him to save her grandchildren. Up until that moment, Nathan didn’t realize that his community was experiencing unprecedented flooding and many of his neighbors were desperate to be rescued.
Nathan and his wife, Krystal, made their way to the neighbor’s house where they found five children and two mothers stuck on the roof and they helped them get to dry land. “I put a child under each arm and one around my neck and took them back to my house,” Nathan recalls. “The oldest child was holding a small dog."
After rescuing the children, Nathan went to find his former high school English teacher and his second grade teacher, who both live alone in the community. "I saw the water rising and I knew my two former teachers were probably trapped in their houses," he says. "It was heartbreaking." With the help of some of his neighbors, Nathan was able to rescue both women from their homes and help them reunite with their families. When asked why he was willing to risk his safety to make sure his former teachers were saved, Nathan said his teacher’s caring nature had stuck with him his whole life.
