I realized something amazing!
March 10, 2024: Yamazaki Takashi's "Godzilla Minus One" won the Best Visual Effects Award at the U.S. Academy Awards!
March 10 was the day of the Tokyo Air Raid 79 years ago in 1945.
And in the first Godzilla movie of 1954, Godzilla's entry route into Kanto was the same route as the bombers of the Tokyo Air Raid (also in "Shin Godzilla").
Whether it's evidence that the memory has faded after 79 years, or that the hard feelings between Japan and the United States have been resolved,
my late mother used to boast that she had wiped out an unexploded firebomb that had fallen into her garden in Chiba with a bucket of water.
RIP
"drop the mines!"
I have always loved Godzilla ever since i was a child (even if my introduction was the 1998 American Godzilla), and Godzilla Minus One did not disappoint. An amazing movie with a full cast who seemed to love what they were creating and I felt it.
Drawn on A2 paper, with prisma colour pencils.
Even though Monsterverse has probably already covered the niche, I wish Japanese Godzilla films went back to having a shared continuity between their films. Shared universe complaints are valid it’s just that imo the heisei helped define the Godzilla franchise. I think the Japanese films going back to that format would be cool as something that runs in parallel w/ Legendary.

"Godzilla Minus One" trailer has release, watch here
Toho is taking back the Godzilla mantle America borrowed for a brand new Japanese Godzilla movie, and it looks mouthwatering. Ever since the last roar of Godzilla echoed through the cinema halls, fans of the legendary kaiju have been eagerly awaiting any glimpse of the next installment in this iconic franchise. And now, the wait is over.
The first Godzilla Minus One trailer was revealed recently and it showed a blend of human drama and brutal monster destruction in Post-War Japan. The Minus One moniker and time period suggest a reboot where Godzilla appears earlier than his original 1954 debut.
"Godzilla Minus One" not only features the King of the Monsters but also brings back some fan-favorite creatures from the Godzilla universe. Expect to see Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah making a comeback, each with a fresh twist that's bound to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, this is the first live-action Godzilla movie from Japan since the stupendous Shin Godzilla in 2016, when we had the King of Monsters Western version appear a couple of times.
Godzilla Minus One is getting a Japanese release on November 3, 2023, with a Western release set for December 1, 2023. Given the creature’s modern prominence thanks to its Western outings, it’s good to see a Toho version getting a theatrical run.
