DANTE:
Making your way to Dante's room at last, you hope you didn't make him wait for too long now... You promised to spend the evening with him, but stopping by the kitchen to offer your compliments to Giulia for tonight's yummy dessert had turned into helping out with the cleaning, and then into getting caught up in idle talk with Leo who joined in as well... You know your Dante and he'd never get mad over something like that, but...! Lately, you both have been so busy. Maybe it's your own need for Dante that puts the extra rush in your step.
Opening the door to his room, the cheerful exclaim of your return stays behind your teeth as you're met with the sight of... a sleeping Dante?!
You do recall him falling asleep on his desk once; it was a little hard to notice at first because even when the heaviness of his lids had caught him off guard, he managed to keep his posture in his chair... This time, however, he's cushioning his head on the crook of his right arm that is folded on the desk.
It's a sight that would get burned into your memory for sure. The smile curling your upper lip is almost making your mouth hurt because you can't shake off the overload of cuteness this sight presents you with. The vulnerability of Dante is only rivaled by his nonchalantness, both so unusual of the fearsome Falzone capo. You hope he doesn't pull off some half-asleep self-defense technique on you for what you're about to do to him next.
Smooch. Smooch smooch smooch...
You kiss all of Dante's pretty features, mostly his exposed cheek, noting that even his hair got a little disheveled in the process; the untamed white strand of hair on top of his head now sticking out like an antennae. His fedora usually does a good job of hiding it...
"Mnnh... Carlo, stop giving me kisses... che cattivone..."
Dante is about to wake up in just another second, and only God knows which one of you would be more flustered than the other.

About twenty minutes later, Helena Marcovaldo arrived at the door. By then Alberto, Luca, and Harry were seated around the kitchen table, with their rather distracted hostess serving them cioccolata. Harry had ended up standing on the chair, looking rather precarious with his many legs tucked underneath him on the small seat, but he didn't seem to mind. He slurped at the chocolate in delight, and was looking around at other objects in the kitchen with a smile on his face. When Dorotea's mother let Helena into the kitchen, he was thrilled to be meeting a second human.
“Luca!” Signora Marcovaldo said, coming at once to give him a hug. “Santo Tallegio! What's going on?”
“We visited another world inside Rocco's closet,” Luca replied, hugging back tightly. He didn't want to let go. Signora Marcovaldo, with paint-spattered overalls and her unruly red hair so much like Giulia's, was so wonderfully familiar. After those horrible days in the monster world it was almost as good as being back with his own Mom and Dad.
“You did... what?” Signora Marcovaldo asked.
Reluctantly, Luca loosened his grip and sat down again. Signora Molinari gave Helena a cup of coffee, and the boys began to tell their story.
Signora Marcovaldo knew that Luca and Alberto had been missing for a couple of days, because Giulia had told her on the telephone, but nobody had any idea that they'd vanished into Rocco's closet. The two adults looked more and more astonished and skeptical as the boys described how bedroom closets were a portal to another world and the monsters who lived there used screams for electricity... but every time they looked about to protest, they would glance at Harry and say nothing. He was clearly real, sitting there stuffing bombolini in his mouth, and they couldn't argue with that.
“So now,” Luca finished, “we need to get Harry back to his own world, and then we need to help Curtis and Louise. I think we should go back to Portorosso, and then find somebody else who has a monster in his closet.”
“You can't use Rocco's again?” asked Helena.
The boys shook their heads. “His door got wrecked,” said Alberto.
“They'd have to recreate it from scratch,” Harry explained, “and they won't, because he's probably not even scared anymore.”
“It'll be easier in Portorosso,” Luca added, “because people there don't mind sea monsters, so they'll have an easier time getting used to Harry. I think anybody who saw him in Genova would panic.” Signora Molinari had certainly come close. “We need to find a way to get him to the train station without anybody seeing him.”
“I want to see the city!” Harry protested. “It's full of humans.”
“You can't,” said Alberto. “You can see Portorosso, but in Genova you have to hide.”
“I didn't keep you locked up in Monstropolis,” Harry complained.
“You kinda did,” Alberto said. “You put us in that tiny room for the night, and we were too scared to go anywhere.”
“That's your fault,” Harry humphed.
Signora Marcovaldo looked dubious, as if she suspected people in Portorosso would mind these monsters very much. “How can we hide him?” she asked. “I suppose he doesn't do like you two and transform as a disguise?”
Luca and Alberto shook their head.
“How much time do we have? Giada,” Helena said to their hostess, “when are Consalvo and the kids due back?”
“Any moment now,” Signora Molinari admitted unhappily. “I don't know what they'll think when they find him here. It took me years to convince Dorotea the first time that there wasn't a monster in her closet and if she finds out there was the whole time I might never get her to go to bed again.”
“Then we'll have to think of something fast.” Helena looked around the room, trying to get inspiration somewhere. “Do... do you have a baby pram?”
“We do!” Signora Molinari exclaimed, standing up. “Let me find it!”
She dragged the pram out of the attic, stirring up clouds of dust in the process, and found a blanket that could be draped over the top to conceal the contents. Harry rather reluctantly climbed in, and if he settled down with his legs tucked up under him, he just barely fit. Signora Molinari draped a blanket over the top, and the result looked surprisingly plausible. As long as Harry kept quiet, everybody would assume there was a sleeping baby.
They were just in time – when Signor Molinari looked out the window, she found her husband and children approaching the house. Helena grabbed her purse, and the boys fell into step behind her as if they were just leaving. Signora Molinari held the door for them as her family approached the house.
“Lovely to see you as always, Helena,” she said, her voice loud and false. “Oh, and here's Giovanni and the kids! Did you have a good day at the museum?”
“Yes!” Dorotea replied, running up to hug her mother. “Hi, Luca! I thought you went back to Portorosso for the summer.” She looked puzzled as she realized that Luca and Alberto were in their pyjamas, but did not immediately remark on it.
“We just came up to visit,” Luca said quickly, keeping the conversation off their clothes. “This is my friend Alberto. Alberto, this is Dorotea. She's the one who gave me the book about the tomb of King Tutankhamon. This is her little brother, Nino.”
Nino, six years old, waved.
“Piacere! Girolamo Trombetta!” Alberto shook the little boy's hand. If he continued doing things humans thought were weird, maybe they'd assume the pyjamas were just more of the same.
It seemed to work – but he couldn't distract them from the presence of the pram. Dorotea looked up at Helena hopefully.
“Can I see the baby?” she asked. “My friend Bella has a new baby brother, too! Is it a boy or a girl?”
“It's a boy,” said Helena, “but I don't think we should disturb him. He'll be very grouchy. Some other time, perhaps.”
Dorotea looked disappointed, but she and Nino waved goodbye as Luca and Alberto followed Giulia's mother out into the street. Helena breathed out, relieved.
“Are we outside?” Harry whispered from under the blanket.
“Yes,” Alberto told him.
The blanket moved.
“Don't!” Luca hissed.
“I just wanna see,” Harry whined.
“Here.” Luca folded a corner of the blanket back so that Harry couldn't accidentally drag the whole thing off in his attempts to peek out. One of the monster boy's many eyes appeared in the gap, and Luca dropped back a little so that Harry could get a better look around.
“Wow!” he heard Harry whisper.
The city of Genova was certainly very different from Monstropolis. The monster city had been built on very flat land, though with mountains visible on the horizon in the east and, according to one of the maps in the classroom, the ocean somewhere in the west. Genova had mountains to the north and the sea to the south, but the one butted right up against the other rather than the two being separated by a broad plain. The buildings Luca and Alberto had seen from bus and car windows in Monstropolis had been very similar to each other and generally very plain, as if somebody had decided to build as many of them as possible as quickly as they could. In Genova the buildings, arrayed in layers on the hillsides, were all different colours and different sizes, some of them with marker stones to show the date they'd been begun.
“It looks like a city made of Turkish delight!” said Harry. “Hey... is that ice cream?”
“It's gelato,” Alberto told him.
“Be quiet!” Luca urged. There were people around, standing outside shops and houses and talking to each other, or going about other business. Nobody was paying attention to Helena and the boys, but that might change at any moment.
As they passed, Harry turned to take in the freezer of brightly-coloured gelato flavours. The blanket moved, and Alberto and Luca grabbed at it to try to keep it in place.
“Is anybody looking?” Luca asked.
“I don't see anyone,” Alberto told him.
“Then it's okay!” Harry pushed the blanket aside and hopped out, scurrying up to the gelato counter. “Look at them all!”
Tumblr media
“Harry! Harry, come back!” Helena hissed. She, Alberto, and Luca gathered around him as he gazed at the frozen treat, trying to shield Harry from the view of the people around him. It was too late, though. The man running the gelato stand had stood up and was looking down at them through a pair of sunglasses, and his pet dog was standing stiff, growling a bit.
“Tino!” the man said. “Basta! Don't scare off the customers!”
The dog, a small brown and white creature with tight curls in its fur, whined and looked up at his master, as if to ask him how he could possibly fail to notice the little monster excitedly reading out flavours. Luca and the others held their collective breath, waiting for the moment the man realized what he was seeing.
“What can I get for you, young man?” the vendor asked.
“That one!” Harry pointed.
The vendor chuckled. “You'll have to tell me the name,” he said. “I'm afraid I'm quite blind.”
Helena leaned on the pram in relief, so heavily it actually tipped back on its wheels. Luca had to grab Alberto so that he wouldn't simply fall over.
“Strac... stracky a...” Harry frowned, sounding it out.
“Stracciatella!” the man said.
“Strachy-a-teya,” said Harry.
“Stracciatella!” the vendor repeated. “Try again.”
“Stracciatella,” Harry got it closer.
“Close enough!” The vendor put a scoop of it in a cone. “It's sweet milk with chocolate.” He wrapped the cone in a paper napkin and held it out.
Harry stood up on the tips of his many legs to take it. “Do you want a son?” he asked.
“That good, is it?” The man laughed. “I'm afraid I already have two, and that's plenty!”
Helena bought gelato for Alberto and Luca, as well, and was handing the vendor a banknote to pay when a father with two children came up to take a look at the flavours. Alberto and Luca quickly moved in between this family and Harry so that Helena could get him into the pram unseen. The father was talking to the vendor and the two girls were staring at the ice cream, so it looked like they might have a chance – until the dog barked as Harry got too close again and the smaller girl looked to see what had scared it.
“What is that?” she shrieked, pointing. Helena quickly spread the blanket over the pram with Harry in it. The girl's father and sister both turned to look.
“Oh, Tino's a lagotto,” the blind vendor said. “He's awfully nervous today, isn't he?”
Tino the dog lay down, putting his head on his paws with a frustrated snort.
“Thank you very much, Sir! Have a nice evening!” Luca called, waving as they hurried away. The younger girl was gesturing frantically as she tried to tell her father and sister that she'd seen a giant spider eating ice cream.
“Don't you dare do that again!” Helena hissed to the blanket. “You were nearly seen!”
“Yeah, but I got ice cream out of it,” Harry replied, his mouth audibly full.
“That was purely to save face,” she said crossly. “Next time it may not go so well.”
Luckily, the gelato seemed to satisfy Harry enough that he was willing to remain in the pram, just peeking out from under a corner of the blanket, for the rest of the trip back to Signora Marcovaldo's apartment. She lived on the fourth floor of a block of flats, and the pram was slightly too big to fit in the tiny elevator, so they had to drag it up the flights of steps while Harry complained they were making him seasick. One of Helena's neighbours paused and offered to help them, but they refused, not wanting him to realize how heavy the pram was.
Finally they manoeuvred the pram down the narrow hallway to number forty-four and squeezed it through the door. For Luca, it was a relief all over again. After living in this apartment for eight months, Luca knew it almost as well as he knew his parents' farm in Portorosso Bay. The little kitchen with the old coffee pot that sat in the middle of the table, the view over the bay, the side bedroom where his and Giulia's beds were. It was all familiar and wonderful.
Nerone the dog came bouncing up to greet them, then stopped short, his ears pricked up and his tail raised. His nostrils flared as he sniffed, and it seemed the corgi would have agreed with his lagotto counterpart in not at all liking what he smelled. The hair stood up down his back.
Luca tried to distract him. “Hi, Nerone,” he said, offering the dog a hand.
Nerone ignored this, and his lip curled as he growled at the pram.
“No,” said Helena sternly to her pet. “Harry is a guest. Luca, put him in the bedroom, would you?”
“Yes, Madame.” Luca took Nerone by the collar and led the little dog firmly into the room he and Giulia shared. Nerone did not want to go, and while he was far too small to actually stop Luca dragging him out of the room, he widened his stance and kept his snarling nose pointed towards the pram the entire way.
“There!” said Luca, shutting the door.
Harry took that as permission, and snatched the blanket off his head. “Whew! I couldn't breathe in there!” he complained, and climbed out of the pram to start exploring the kitchen. The view from the little window immediately caught his many eyes, and he scuttled over to climb up on a chair and look out. “What's that?”
Luca came to see what he was looking at. “Oh, that's La Lanterna,” he said of the lighthouse. “It's four hundred years old.”
“Really?”
“Yeah!” Luca couldn't help being eager to share the thigns he'd learned. “Do you have anything that old in Monstropolis?”
“No way,” said Harry. “The whole city's only half that old.”
“There's actually been a lighthouse there longer than that,” Luca added, “but it got old and fell apart, so they had to rebuild it. I've got a book about the history of the city somewhere.” He almost went to go get it out of the bedroom, but then he heard Nerone's nails scratching at the door. If he opened it, the dog would doubtless come barrelling out.
Signora Marcovaldo, meanwhile, had lifted the receiver from her telephone and dialed zero. “Hello?” she said. “Operator? Yes, can you get me Marsigliese's Drogheria in Portorosso? Thank you.”
Alberto and Luca both came a little closer as the phone rang. When Luca was in school, he'd arranged a time to talk on the phone with his parents every week, but calling unannounced was a little more complicated. Massimo didn't have a telephone of his own, so they had to call Signora Marsigliese, who had one in her shop that she sometimes allowed people to use, and he would go and get them.
“Hello, Carolina?” Signora Marcovaldo asked. “It's Helena in Genova. Good news, I've got Luca and Alberto!”
“What?” asked Signora Marsigliese. “How did they get there?”
“It's quite a story,” Helena told her, “but they're both safe and that's the important thing. Here.” She offered the phone to Luca.
“Hello, Signora Marsigliese,” said Luca, and his first question was, “how's Rocco?”
“Rocco? Rocco's fine,” Signora Marsiglese replied. “How are you? He told me his monster took you two away into the closet and that's all I've been able to get from him.”
“She did,” said Luca, “but it's okay, she's actually very nice.”
“Who is?”
“The monster. Her name is Louise, and I think she needs our help right now.”
“What are you talking about?” Signora Marsigliese wanted to know.
Harry had found Helena's birdwatching binoculars, which she kept in a drawer below the window, but was disappointed once he got a good took at them. “Do you have one with more eyes?” he asked.
“I'm afraid not,” she told him. “Two is pretty standard.”
Harry shrugged and fiddled with them, trying to match the spacing to one of his sets.
Tumblr media
“We'll tell you all about it when we get back to Portorosso,” Luca promised. “Can you please tell Massimo and my parents that we're coming?”
“Of course, of course,” said Signora Marsigliese. “They'll be so happy – your parents have been absolutely frantic, and the Pescheria has been closed the whole time you've been gone.”
“Really?” Alberto asked, leaning closer to the phone so she'd be able to hear him. “Why was it closed?”
“Because Massimo can't catch fish when he's out combing the bay for you,” Signora Marsigliese told him. “I don't think he's slept, either. I've never seen him so upset.”
Luca couldn't imagine Massimo being upset. Signor Marcovaldo was in very firm control of his emotions, rarely showing surprise or fear or joy even when everybody around him was freaking out. If he were worried enough that people outside his family could tell, he must be very upset indeed.
Alberto clearly didn't know what to think about that. Even after living with Massimo for a year, he still found it hard to believe that his adoptive father was actually that attached to him, rather than just putting up with his presence. He had often thought that if he were to vanish one day, Massimo would probably be relived to be rid of him.
Signora Marsigliese said goodbye and went to spread the news, while Signora Marcovaldo searched for something the boys could wear besides their stained pyjamas. She pulled out some of the clothes she'd bought Luca to wear in the autumn and winter – they were too warm for right now, but at least they were clean. Luca's things were too small for Alberto, so she knocked on other doors in the hallway and eventually managed to borrow something from a neighbour. This did not include shoes, but he was used to going barefoot.
“Do I have to get back in the pram?” Harry whined.
“I'm afraid so,” said Helena. “We can't risk anybody else seeing you.”
“But it was fine,” he complained.
“Only because the man at the gelateria was blind,” Helena reminded him. “If he hadn't been there's no telling what might have happened. Into the pram.”
Harry scowled as he climbed in, and Helena tossed the blanket over the top. She stowed her own bag in the basket under the pram, while Alberto opened the bedroom door just a crack so that Luca could get a hold of Nerone and put his leash on. The dog had calmed down a bit, but was still very unhappy with Harry's presence. The white was visible all around the dark iris of his eyes.
“Does everybody have their things?” Helena asked.
“We don't have any things,” Luca said. “We didn't take anything with us.”
“Sorry, force of habit,” said Helena. “Let's go.”
The area where Helena lived was a quiet part of Genova, and they didn't pass very many people on the street outside. First they dropped Nerone off with a neighbour who had agreed to care for him. Signora Marcovaldo and the boys all gave him some scratches and said goodbye, and Nerone whimpered as they walked away. He did not like that they were leaving him behind and taking away the intruder he was so angry about.
As they got closer to the train station the city became busier and busier, especially as it was starting to be late in the afternoon. Adults were finishing work for the day, and children, out of school for the summer, were running around shouting and playing. Harry, peering out from under his blanket, was transfixed.
“Look at them all!” he whispered. “Where are they all going?”
“Most of them are going home,” said Luca. “A lot of people in Genova work during the day.”
“What do they do?”
“There's museums, there's the trains and buses, all kinds of things,” Luca said. “Probably a lot of the same stuff monsters do when they aren't scaring people. Please be quiet.”
The train station itself was swarming with people, coming and going on the trains or visiting the little shops around it. Since it was hot out, Helena stopped to buy bottles of sparkling water for the boys. Alberto opened his, while Luca passed one under the blanket for Harry.
“What's happening now?” Harry asked.
“We're in line for train tickets,” Luca whispered back.
“There's music!” Harry squeaked as they neared the office. A radio was playing. “I didn't know humans had music!”
“Of course they have music. Everybody's got music,” said Alberto.
“Sssh,” Helena told him. She stepped up to the counter. “One adult and three children, for Potrorosso,” she said.
“The baby doesn't need a ticket,” said the clerk. She took the money and handed them the tickets, and they continued on their way. Luca stood up straight, trying not to look nervous. Alberto seemed to be doing alright, walking with what looked like a confident strut, but Luca recognized that as the other boy's attempt to prop himself up. Helena was not as good at pretending. She was looking around nervously, hunched over the pram a bit. Even when they made it to the platform and sat down on a bench, she remained bolt upright.
“Can I come out now?” Harry asked hopefully.
“No,” said Luca. “There's still too many people around.”
“You can come out in Portrosso,” Alberto added. “Like we told you, people there are used to us, so they can get used to you.”
Luca hoped Harry wouldn't be there long enough for people to get used to him. It would be one thing if Curtis or Louise or Sullivan ended up living there. They were grownups who could look after themselves. Harry was still a kid, and his mother was probably worried about him, just as Luca's parents and Massimo were worried about them. His father might be upset, too. Even if Mr. Waternoose was a jerk, Harry was still his son, right?
The train pulled up. People who'd been going to Genova climbed out, and the far fewer people who were headed east late in the afternoon trooped on. Once again, a man offered to help Signora Marcovaldo and the boys with the pram, and once again, they refused.
“We're managing just fine,” said Helena, false cheerful.
They found a compartment and sat down, and as the train chugged out of the station again, Helena leaned back in her seat, finally relaxing. As the train started moving, Harry pushed the blanket off and climbed out of the pram, standing on the seat to watch the station disappear behind them.
“I've never been on a train,” he said. “When we go anywhere that's too far to drive, we take Dad's private plane.”
“Your father has his own plane?” Alberto asked.
“Yeah. There's nothing to do and it's really boring,” Harry replied, watching the city pass by.
Helena got up and put her bag on the luggage rack, then shut the compartment door and moved the pram so that it would be in the way. It wouldn't actually stop anyone from entering, but it would hopefully slow them down enough that Harry would be able to hide. The train rounded the bay, and soon was chugging along the coastline towards Portorosso. There would be a couple of stops on the way at other small towns, but it would only be a couple of hours and then they'd be home.
Luca had been wide awake during his first train ride, from Portorosso to Genova almost a year ago. There'd just been so much to see along the way, all of it new and wonderful. When he'd gone home to visit at Christmastime, he'd been much more tired after the school semester, and had discovered that the rocking motion and rhythmic sounds of the train were quick to lull him to sleep. This had happened again on the next train ride, and again on the way back for the summer, even when he'd been very excited to get home. Now, after the last few exhausting days, Luca didn't have a chance. His head nodded, and his eyes drifted closed.
“What's that?” asked Harry, pointing out the window to something.
“That's a Vespa,” said Alberto. “Luca and I are going to have one someday. Right, Luca?”
“Uh-huh,” said Luca, his eyes still closed.
“How about that?” Harry wanted to know. “That looks like a scream station! Do humans use scream, too?”
“No,” said Alberto.
“That's a petrol station,” said Signora Marcovaldo. “It sells fuel for cars.”
“Where do they get it from?” asked Harry.
“I don't know. Hey, Luca.” Alberto poked him. “Where does petrol come from?”
“Out of the ground,” Luca said with a yawn. He moved a little, getting more comfortable. The city continued to pass by, and they eventually left it behind and got out into the countryside, where Harry found more things to look at.
“What about that? What's that?” Harry asked.
“That's a goat,” Alberto said.
“What are they for?”
“I dunno,” said Alberto. “The Paguros' goatfish lay eggs you can eat, but I don't think... hey, Luca,” he poked his friend in the shoulder. “Do goats lay eggs?”
“No,” Luca said with a yawn. “I think they give milk, though.”
“Cool,” said Harry. “Hey, what's that one?”
Luca groaned.
Late afternoon slipped into evening, and the train finally pulled up to the station in Portorosso. Reluctantly awake, Luca looked out the window and saw his parents, Massimo and Giulia, and Signora Marsigliese and Rocco standing on the platform waiting for them. His heartbeat quickened and he suddenly felt more alert. This was it! They were home, and he was going to be able to sleep in his own bed that night! He got to his feet, and helped Signora Marcovaldo get her back back onto the rack under the pram.
“In you get,” Helena said to Harry.
“But we're here now,” Harry said, and pointed to Luca and Alberto. “They said the humans here would be okay with me!”
“They said they could get used to you,” said Helena. “We don't want to spring you on them all at once. Get in the pram.”
Grumbling, Harry climbed in, and the boys prepared to help Helena bump it down the steps again. They were spared the trouble, however, when Massimo was there to meet them. He grabbed the other end of the pram to help lift it over the stairs, though he grunted at the weight. With that done, he turned to Alberto and offered his arm for a hug.
Luca didn't get to see the rest of their greeting, because he was all but bowled over as his parents came to scoop him up. Daniela Paguro held her son so tight Luca felt like she would squeeze the air right out of him, especially when Lorenzo joined her from the other side.
“I was so scared I'd never see you again!” Daniela said. “You are never sleeping in a room with a closet again, you hear me? Never!”
“I love you, too, Mom and Dad,” Luca said.
Daniela finally loosened her grip, and Luca was able to turn and see Massimo holding Alberto out at arm's length and smiling at him. Alberto grinned back with his eyes suspiciously watery – but he was spared the indignity of crying in public when Giulia tackled him from behind, putting him in a headlock and scrubbing at his scalp with her knuckles. This left Alberto laughing rather than in tears, and once she'd thoroughly messed up his hair, Giulia moved on to give Luca a much more gentle greeting.
“Are we done yet?” asked Harry's voice from the pram. “Come on, it's hot in here.”
Happy reunions stopped, and people looked at the blanket-covered pram warily. Signora Marsigliese had been told that Luca and Alberto were bringing a friend with them, and that this fried was even more monstery than they were, but until that moment everybody seemed to have forgotten about it. Now it was time to see if people in Portrosso really could get used to a monster.
“Everybody,” said Luca, “this is Harry Waternoose.”
Helena pulled the blanket off the pram.
Daniela yelped and thrust Luca behind her as if to shield him from an attack. Massimo was less dramatic about it, but he did step forward to be between the pram and his children. Signora Marsigliese gasped, and Rocco tugged on her sleeve and pointed as if to say, see? I told you so.
Tumblr media
This only lasted a moment, though, and then everybody seemed to remind themselves that just because something looked odd didn't necessarily mean it was dangerous: the very same lesson Harry's father didn't want the people in the monster world learning about humans. Daniela laughed nervously, and offered a hand.
“Hello, Harry,” she said. “Luca always makes such interesting friends.”
“This is my Mom and Dad,” Luca said.
“This is my Dad,” Alberto added, gesturing grandly to Massimo. “And I guess this is my sister.” He stuck his tongue out at Giulia.
“And this is Signora Marsigliese and Rocco,” said Luca. “That's where Louise found us, was in his room.”
Rocco licked his gelato and glared at Harry. He did not feel like being friendly to closet monsters.
“Will you be staying long?” Signora Marsigliese asked Harry cautiously.
“Yes,” said Harry. “I'm gonna find a new dad and stay here forever, just like Alberto!”

Ya my concern is also with the roster, a lot of people have said they’re loyal to Rossy so a lot might leave? Could this be better or worse for the talent? More dates? Better treatment worse treatment?
I’m still very new at this so I don’t 100% understand everything but, Tony K seems very happy that Rossy is gone because he may have been the reason that none of the talent were on the American shows. Could this mean more stardom wrestlers at a e w? Doesn’t sound like a win for them imo… Japanese wrestling has been crazy for a while, it’s got me kind of worried
I know some people tweeted thanks to Rossy after the show which was presumably when they found out before the official announcement today, but we really can't know how many people might actually be so loyal as to leave with him, or how many people even can due to contracts or other things. It's theoretically possible (BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT IN ANY WAY CONFIRMED) that the poaching Bushiroad accused him of could already be related to Giulia leaving, some people are saying it's related to Kairi leaving, but we don't know for sure and we can't know anything about anyone else.
It's probably not actually relevant to how the talent will be treated or what the schedule will be like. We already saw the low point on that front, Bushiroad already (at least started) cleaning house on the staff front because of those issues, and while we can't know for sure how the talent is being treated unless they speak out on something, the schedule so far has been lighter than it was for 2023, but we can't know if that'll continue. I hope so though.
Yeah I saw TK tweeted about it, it seems Rossy was the one who was against Stardom wrestlers showing up on AEW, and obviously AEW has a working relationship with New Japan which is also Bushiroad owned, so yeah, it's possible! I honestly don't super... care on that front, I don't like or watch AEW and their women's division doesn't get as much time as they deserve (100% of every show) so 🤷‍♀️
All wrestling has been crazy for a while now, like, the WWE stuff is still ongoing right now. It's an insane time in wrestling and I'm really glad I don't work in the field.

___________________________________________
Today was an awful day, Alberto decided.
His day was littered with small screw ups and he found himself feeling worse than he should about them. He hadn't even done that bad of a job today—all things considered.
He had just accidentally dropped people's food a ridiculous amount of times, accidentally hit poor old Bianca in the face with a fish, and accidentally tripped over himself approximately 8 times.
Oh boy, he really had screwed up today hadn't he?
And no he wasn't spatastrophizing or whatever that weird word Gulia had called him a few months ago was.
He was fine. Everyone has bad days like this. And he wasn't hiding in his room trying desperately not to cry because it's almost dinner time.
Who would cry about something like this? Definitely not Alberto, nope, no thanks.
But why would Massimo even want to keep him around if he kept screwing up like this? He wasn't earning any of this kindness, and he wasn't improving fast enough, and he had to get better better better before Massimo realized what everyone else already had—that he was sinking valuable resources into a lost cause.
Alberto had to work harder. He had to get better or get left behind.
Alberto was sitting with his knees to his chest, hands gripping his curly hair, and yep okay he was crying now.
The thing was Alberto was working hard. And he still wasn't good enough? Clearly, considering he failed over and over again at the most basic things.
Maybe that was his destiny? To try and try and try and never be good? Maybe he wasn't capable of being enough. Maybe that's why everyone left him.
But everyone hasn't left you! His mind tried. Massimo, Luca, Guilia, Luca's family, even the cat! They all stayed, they all care!
Pity, probably. They were all too charitable, too nice. Alberto knew he didn't deserve it. They probably did too.
No! Love, not pity!
If he realized he was a lost cause, it wouldn't be long before Massimo did too, Alberto realized, feeling panic crawl up his throat. This charade could only last so long. Massimo was getting rid of him soon soon soon.
Everything was feeling fuzzy and far away and so much all at the same time. He was gasping and gasping and gasping and getting no air. His lungs crashed up and down without his control. His fingers were suddenly yanking at his curls hard. The pain was supposed to be grounding but it quickly became another thing Alberto lost control over.
This was bad.
The steps up to Giulias old room creaked as a gruff sounding voice called out, "Alberto?"
Massimo.
This was worse.
Alberto clamped a hand over his useless gasping mouth.
What was he going to tell Massimo if he found him like this? Sorry, I just can't breathe because I know that you're going to get rid of me, it's no big deal though. Let's go have pasta! Yeah. That'd go great he bets.
Massimo would have to deal with another one of Albertos screw ups. Would this one push him over the edge?
Massimo called out a few more times, and Alberto sat in the corner of Guilias room, shaking, trying to desperately pull himself together.
Please don't come upstairs please don't come upstairs please dont—
So Massimo had come upstairs.
"Alberto..." He said, voice uncharacteristically soft.
Suddenly Massimo was crouched in front of Alberto, on the floor.
Alberto tried his best to be quiet, his dad before always got mad when he threw tantrums like this. He hated how whiney and annoying he sounded when he failed to hold back a gasping sob. He looked away from Massimo. He didn't want to see what face he was making.
"Look at me. You need to breathe, son." There was something incredibly comforting about Massimos way of speaking, and Albertos heart ached at being called son so easily. The fuzzy panic was still here, plaguing his insides, but it felt a little less oppressive. 'Dad is here, Dad is here, Dad is here,' his mind chanted.
Alberto looked up. Massimos face held nothing but concern and care and it made him want to cry for a whole other reason.
"Follow me." Massimo said, simply. He took slow deep breaths. Alberto tried his best to follow. I mean; he's gotta at least be able to breath right, yeah? Apparently not.
He choked on his breath. A few times. But Massimo looked at him with such encouragement that he just had to keep trying. And he did.
So now, Alberto was sitting here, feeling a lot more real and there, no longer drowning in the air. He would say that's a pretty good lifestyle improvement.
He was still shaking a little though, which wasn't very cool.
Suddenly he was wrapped up in warm, sturdy arms and he almoat started crying again. "What happened, my boy?"
Now was the hardest part. What was he supposed to say?
"I just...had a bad day, I guess." Alberto muttered into Massimos shoulder, cringing at the way his voice came out after crying. "M'sorry," he added lamely.
"There's nothing to be sorry for," Massimo said, in a way that made it sound like a simple fact. "Do you want to talk?"
Alberto nodded, and although Massimo pulled away from the hug, he kept a hand on the boys knee.
"Uhm—I just. I screwed a lot of things up. And I was thinking..." Alberto sucked in a sharp breath, "That you might not be a big fan of that? Or...really. Want me around? I know I'm not very—"
"Alberto. You belong here. That will not change."
"But—"
"You are a hard worker. Smart. Funny. Kind. Good."
"I don't deserve this!" Alberto said, and it was a desperate, broken sound.
Massimos expression was suprised, then steady. "You do."
Something about that broke Alberto all over again, and he was leaning into the other man's shoulder, shuddering with tears. He felt bad for getting his shirt wet, but there wasn't much he could do.
They stayed for a while, Massimo rubbing small circles on the boys back. When Albertos neck was sore from the way he was straining it. And when he felt stable and tired and a little sweaty, he broke away.
"Thank you, Massimo," he said, though it didn't come close to conveying how he felt.
Massimo just nodded, as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
"You know what I used to do with Guilia when she had a bad day?"
"What?" Alberto said, suddenly eager. Stories from Massimo were a rare and treasured thing.
"This." And suddenly large, warm, hands were scribbling all over Albertos tummy.
"Ah! Ahah! Mahahahsihihimo! Wh—Ahahah!"
Tingles exploded in Albertos torso, and he finally understood what people meant when they talked about butterflies.
"Yes?"
"Ihihit! Ihihihit TihiHihCklehehes! Hehahahaha!"
"Good."
As he squirmed helplessly under his father figures fingers, he realized that this was actually really nice.
Just laughing. Without a care in the world.
Massimo attacked Albertos ribs with a dexterity that said experience, and Alberto threw his head back with a squeal bursting into a bout of squeaky laughter.
"Ahahahah! Dahahahad! Ihihihihi—Ihihihihi Cahahahant!"
"Can't what?" Somehow Massimos quiet, blunt teasing was making Alberto more flustered.
"Ihihihihi dohohohohohnt knohohohhohhow!"
He was met with a hum and fingers creeping up into Albertos armpits, scritch-scratching with blunt nails.
Alberto screeched before dissolving into boisterous laughter. His arms crashed down and he wiggled around like some kind of teen-boy-fish-worm.
"WAHAHAHAHA! AHAHAAH—DAHAHAHAHAHAD!"
"Yes?"
"GEHEHEHEHT OHOHOHOUT! AHAHAHA!"
"I'm stuck."
"NAHAHAHAHA! DOHOHOHOHOHONT TEHEHEHEHAHASE!"
Massimo remained there a moment longer, before relenting. Instead, he brought his fingers up to skitter around Albertos neck and ears. Giggles poured out of Albertos mouth and he shook his head back and forth with mirth.
"Mhmhmh! Fahahahah! Ihihihihi—Ahahahaha!" Alberto didn't know what he was trying to say, but whatever it was it was beyond lost in translation. His brain was fizzling with giggles and butterflies.
If his eyes weren't squeezed shut with laughter, Alberto wouldve seen how Massimo was smiling down at him as if he were the most amazing thing in the world.
Massimo's fingers slowed, and Alberto caught his breath.
"You must be hungry."
"Yehe—" Alberto cleared his throat, "Yeah, I guess I am." He was still giggly and smiling with pink cheeks.
"Dinner is done." Massimo said, before getting up and offering a hand to the boy. Alberto took it, and was shocked to find himself not letting go after he was up.
"I...I love you papá," Alberto said, wearing an expression that looked so fragile, that Massimo was almost afraid to say anything at all.
"I love you too son. Don't forget."

Now that we know who killed Amycus, will we know how?? Excellent chapter as always!!!
Thanks anon!! To be honest, I have a headcanon as to how it happened, but I'm not sure it's information that the fic needs. It might or might not come up at some point, but I'm not certain that it needs to feature in more detail than was already given (i.e. an AK in the Slytherin common room).
My headcanon is that when the DE broke into the Castles, they crashed the Ravenclaw common room and freed the Carrows. I think Draco gets sort of caught up in the chaos until the Room of Requirement incident.
I honestly can't decide if he kills Amycus before or after the fire. On the one hand, I like the idea of him setting out to do it as soon as the battle breaks out and he realises he has an opening, but on the other, I like the idea of it being prompted by a near-death experience.
Regardless, I think at some point, he sets out to find Amycus, with the very specific intent of killing him. I see this as 100% intentional and premeditated. I don't think he has an actual plan, but that is definitely something he Sets Out to do.
I reckon that however, when Malfoy does find him, he gets lucky in the way that Alecto and Amycus have been separated in the chaos of the battle. I see this a little bit like the situation with Fred and George where two siblings who are Very Close (I see Amycus and his sister as very attached to each other, for better or for worse) got separated and one died "alone" (sad, I know). I think at that point Amycus isn't fighting anymore, he's just chaotic and frantic because he can't find his sister, and he's afraid she's dead (see chapter 8 as well where the cherry on the cake element that starts his assault on Ginny is that his sister was blown up by the Order's bomb).
I think Draco takes advantage of this to isolate him and go to a place where he knows Amycus will have his guard down and no one will see them. So, I think he says: "I found her, she's in the Common Room, she's injured, come quick" or something. Amycus follows him unsuspecting because at this point, Draco has enough credibility with the Carrows to be believed.
I reckon the moment they step in, Amycus looks around, turns towards Draco like: "where is she?" and Draco kills him. I don't think he hesitates a minute. I think it's one Avada Kedavra, straight to the chest, straight through. No second thoughts. I don't think Draco even feels bad about it, tbh. I think it's one of the things he never feels bad about, even years later. It's also a huge contrast (IMO) with Dumbledore where he couldn't do it. 1) He's been through a war and that changes people and 2) he had qualms about killing Dumbledore in a way that he doesn't Amycus. I think it's cold-blooded murder, with no hesitation, and he's glad he did it.
In my head, as a side note, it's actually very much like when Harry retaliates and kills Greyback after he killed Giulia, which frankly doesn't seem to weigh on his conscience the same way Tom's death does (oh, the thousands of thoughts I have about that haha). Obviously, I think there's arguments to be made on both sides on whether or not that killing was 1) necessary to protect the others (see the Internal Affairs conversation) and 2) justified. Just like Draco's killing of Amycus. So, idk, make of it what you will I suppose.
But thanks again, anon, and everyone, don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions 😊.

Oh btw lil story i did with my ocs lol
A date over the alps
Back in 1999, Dan and Abba were going around in their Panda when Dan asked the driver: "dude... you know you look so cute when you're driving..?"
The driver responds with: "That is so sweet of you, but i can't elaborate because i'm trying not to crash here". It was 1 am.
How did they get there?
It started the day before that. It was 7 am. The two were with Giulia and Gio having breakfast, when dan proposed to cross the country border and kill some time in France.
Gio and Giulia said no, because they had something else in mind for the day. Abba said yes because, well... He likes driving. Also he wanted to see France and taste an authentic crepe.
So the two boys hopped on the Pandino at 10 and went west.
"So, have you ever been in Monte Carlo?" Asked Dan.
"First time. It may seem weird, but i've never been there. There's a distant cousin of mine there, but he's the one that usually comes down for Christmas."
"Oh, does he know some french?"
"Maybe."
About 20 minutes later, dan said that he missed Paris.
"You miss what?" asked Abba surprised.
"Paris. I've been there once and i just miss going out in the street and see the "iron asparagus" pop up among the other buildings. I also miss the french."
Abba gave his boyfriend a concerned stare. "Dan are you good?"
"Yes, yes. I'm weird i know.
But still, i just miss the weird "r" and the u's that have like ten different characters after them that get ignored when pronounced"
"I guess weird al wasn't as weird as you."
"Thanks, Abba."
They laughed a bit.
"You know what i just realized? We still haven't changed our money"
"Aaaah don't you worry, Abba. We have powers!"
"You're right."
Silence.
After some time, they get to the border. They bribe the guards and wave them goodbye. They find themselves in Monte Carlo. They could go spit on some Lamborghinis or go buy something to eat. So they did both.
They went in a bar after the spitting and tire destroying session. Abba finally saw why Dan missed France. Dan's french was so fluid that the author's gender in comparison would look solid as cement.
He got one pepsi while his boyfriend got a lemon soda.
"Did you live in france?" Abba asked him, stunned.
"For uuuh... Three months..?"
"THREE MONTHS??? AND YOU SPEAK FRENCH THIS GOOD???"
"Yes, i had the full immersion. i also studied french in middle school."
"Oh."
And they spent one hour in there, casually chatting.
"How about we go in Paris?" Proposed Abba.
"We're not using the Panda, are we?"
"No, no. We'll use our magic universe bending powers."
So he just snapped his fingers and they found themselves in front of the Eiffel tower.
Dan was completly stunned, petrified. It was standing there, in all of its rusty glory.
"Why the fuck are there scaffoldings all over the asparagus?" Asked Dan, confused.
"Oh! I heard they're putting a gigant display for the new millenium's arrival!"
"Why are they doing it in august?"
"I guess that screen is as big as the next millenium."
"Plausible."
The two started walking around, they saw the Louvre (goddammit they forgot the mona Lisa), the champs d'eliseé (idk how to spell that), the metro signs and hopped in the Moulin rouge.
Much, much later, they were walking along the seine, watching the Eiffel tower shining and glimmering in all of its golden glory and the various lights reflected on the waters.
"Say, Abba. Don't you find this romantic?" Asked Dan.
"Yes..." Replied Abba.
"Dude you good?" Asked Dan, worried.
"Yes, yes... I'm just thinking...
I've been with you for a somehow short time now, and this is the most romantic thing anyone can ever do... why did you do this this early?"
"Well... Let me tell ya, Abba. 24 years from now, we might be sitting in a house, maybe in Pavia or somewhere else and you'll be thinking about this moment, this place, these very footsteps we took... a smile will appear on your face..."
They stopped, gazing at the golden tower.
"...and each time you'll see a picture of this landscape, you'll immediately think of this love we had."
"This is... So poetic..." Said Abba.
"Now, shall we kiss..?" Asked Dan.
Abba quickly turned his head to him. The two were looking into eachother's eyes, still seeing the lights all around them, and they slowly got closer... Closer... Closer... And their lips finally touched. A warm feeling captured the two boys, as they were feeling their touch and their smell, completly isolating them from the enviroment.
That moment... Was so long, yet short...
They slowly opened their eyes...
Then Abba hugged him thightly.
"I've never been this glad to have met anyone in my life before. Thank you so so much for being with me!" Said Abba, with a big smile on his face.
"You're so precious... I will protect you with every cell of my body." Said Dan, patting Abba's head.
So, the two spent part of the night there, walking hand in hand along the the river, until Midnight came.
Then Dan used his mighty powers to get them both back to Monaco and hop on the Panda.
And that leads us here.
What next..?
Oh, they Simply got home, shared some moments together and kissed eachother goodnight. Even if they slept in the same bed.

Chapter One of Ti Guardo le Spelle uploaded.
Summary- Luca has been adapting to school in Genova for the past month, and he's been thoroughly enjoying being here and learning all that he can beside Giulia. Other than the longing for the companionship of Alberto and the love of his family, he's feeling pretty good. The school was full of things for him to learn, and he even made a few new friends in his class. Adapting to living as a human being after thirteen years was hard enough, though. And if anything could make it worse, that would be a bully at school. Ercole was one thing, but this one seems completely different. He didn't single out Luca specifically, and he had Alberto and Giulia beside him to help him handle that jerk. Leonardo Armani was someone he was going to have to face on his own, or else the entire school would hear of his true nature. But here, nobody knew what was really happening. He had to tread lightly, even around those he trusted. But despite his best efforts, Giulia knew something was wrong. And she knew the best chances of getting it out of him would be Alberto Scorfano. So with just one letter sent back to Portorosso behind Luca's back, Alberto shows up for class. But will he be able to figure out what Luca is determined to keep hidden from everyone?

Alberto Dating Headcanons
Request: Hi! I was wondering if you could write some general dating headcanons for Alberto since there's so little content about him :((( feel free to ignore my request byee <3
Tumblr media
We all know Alberto is more talk than he is walk, so he'd probably be really nervous to ask you out at first
And yeah, there'd be a lot of freaking out (much to Luca and Giulia's annoyance though they're too nice to say anything!)
Eventually it gets so bad though, that they just decide to set you up themselves
Alberto is definitely the kind of guy who would act macho around you, until he realizes you're not really into that and returns to his normal self
Definitely a cuddler, he is touch starved from being stuck on the island for so long. Hug him!
Because of the above point, he's actually a fan of all physical touch. Hand holding? yes. Running your fingers through his hair? yes! Kissing him (cheeks or lips)??? YES!
Definitely the kind of guy who swings your arms when you hold hands, can't convince me otherwise
He likes to drape his arm around your shoulders, especially when someone who makes him nervous is around you
Be prepared to listen to him ramble, because he barely shuts up haha
But he's supportive of you, whatever you want to do, he's always going to have your back 100%
Okay, I know this is cheesy and cliché but he loves pasta so you can't tell me you guys don't do the Lady and the Tramp noodle thing at least once
Swimming with him. If you can't swim, he'll teach you because it's an important part of who he is. If you can swim, he'll brag about how he can swim better (he is a sea monster after all!)
Whenever you hear him say 'Silenzio Bruno' you know it's going to lead to something potentially dangerous and you have to stop him before it gets too far
Hanging out with Giulia and Luca when they're around and not at school. The four of you basically tear up the town.
Having to teach him how things work because he's not the brightest when it comes to human stuff and although Massimo is teaching him, he's not a fast learner
Sleeping under the stars, curled up into each other and just imagining all the possibilities. You two can do anything, go anywhere, be anyone. It's all up to you.
He's definitely uses 'babe', sorry if you hate it but he's literally got nothing else
Definitely a hopeless romantic. He will play you music, buy you flowers and take you on fancy dates but you prefer the moments when it's just the two of you without all the extra stuff

A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman is their song I think.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I can imagine a very sweet animatic of them too, but I don't know how to make an animatic and I'm not that skilled as an artist.
But like imagine it follows Luca for the first verse, mostly just a recap of his old daydreams and maybe some new ones of just exploring the world and learning all the things.
And running away with Alberto bc OBVIOUSLY.
The first chorus shows the conflict between him and his parents and then him running away in yet another daydream transition, then a recap of the events of the movie.
And then it follows Alberto for the second verse, a few years down the line.
He's renovating an old house in Portorosso, and moving some of his old collection into it, like the Vespa poster and the magic singing lady machine, and some photos the Underdogs have taken over the years, remembering when he and Luca first met.
Second chorus starts, but the "they can say it all sounds crazy" part maybe is a more excited kind of phrasing, showing Alberto telling Giulia about the house over the phone, implying it's more of a surprise for Luca, and she's ecstatic obviously.
Also maybe some Alberto talking about it with Daniela and Lorenzo, they're unsure but ultimately supportive.
Also also maybe some curious looks from some of the Portorosso residents while he's moving boxes of stuff, with the help of some kids. Maybe Ciccio and Guido are helping him out bc I want them to be Alberto's friends while Giulia and Luca are at school.
Cut to Luca seeing the house for the first time and crying and hugging Alberto bc they're so fucking gay and in love.
Giulia and Massimo are in the background, also tearing up bc these are their BOYS okay.
And they just want to see them happy.
Cut to adult Luca waking up in the wee hours of the morning, in their house, getting up from bed to go get some water bc he's thirsty, or he's getting coffee to wake up.
As he's walking through the house, he sleepily looks at all the new pictures on the walls and the new trinkets and old postcards and collections of items from around the world.
After he gets his drink he's like staring out the window, or maybe he goes out onto a porch to watch the sunrise bc peaceful mornings are a treat and everyone should experience that moment of bliss, of being awake before the world.
When Michelle Williams starts singing the focus goes back to Alberto, waking up alone in bed and looking around.
For Luca obvs.
But he's not panicked okay this isn't abandonment angst.
That's for another post.
He just gets up and goes to find him.
He already knows where he is probably.
As he's walking there's a few flashbacks.
"Share your dreams with me" the train scene obviously.
"You may be right / You may be wrong" back and forth flashes of an argument, could be in the house, could be before they moved in together, or kind of ambiguous.
Alberto looks through the window at the same sunrise.
"To the world I close my eyes to see / I close my eyes to see" they both close their eyes serenely.
That transitions back to Luca, sipping from his mug.
The door behind him opens.
Out comes Alberto with his own mug of bean juice, or something.
They stand together in the light of the sunrise, Alberto puts his hand on Luca's hip. There's a ring on it(implied it's a wedding ring or a promise ring whether viewer hcs the existence of home of phobia in their universe)
Another daydream sequence or something, maybe of their wedding(also up to the viewer if it's a memory bc home of phobia doesn't exist and they can get gay married or a dream bc it does and they can't)
During the last line it focuses back on Alberto's hand on Luca's hip and Luca puts his hand on top of his. There's the other ring.
Outtro music with either:
Them silhouetted against the sunrise while sharing a kiss,
A close up of a picture of their first Portorosso Cup win for movie ending nostalgia, OR
A family picture of them with a small child, up for interpretation of whether that's a jump to the future like their next dream or something that's already happened.
This has been Late Night Thoughts™ with Nidhogg.

Oh my goodness, I love Alberto as an over-excited uncle! I'd never even thought of that before, and it's a great way to organically get to "Alberto wants to be a dad himself."
Right! Like, in a way, being an uncle almost absolves him of that potential existential crisis and the crushing weight of Responsibility having his own child might cause. Because Alberto's love language isn't just touch, it's also acts of service. Guilia is the one having a baby, and he can HELP her!
He would absolutely aggravate the life out of her by constantly fussing any time she picked up something or tried to go for a walk or do any household chores because she's growing an entire small human in there and her spine is literally bearing the brunt of that weight and she probably looks like she's going to pop, oh my god, please sit down and rest. Giulia would like, take a deep breath because baby is pushing its feet into her lungs and Alberto would SPRINT into the room to ask her what's wrong.
He would build a crib, and a dresser, and a cute little mobile.
He would make fun of the baby names Giulia picked out.
He'd get so wrapped up in all the little preparations and taking care of Giulia that he probably wouldn't process anything until the baby actually GOT THERE (because he wouldn't be able to see it, you know? seeing giulia's belly get bigger and bigger is different than seeing the actual baby) and then he would be looking at it's scrunched up baby face and it's itty bitty fists and he would be like OH NO THAT'S A WHOLE - THAT'S A REAL HUMAN BABY - and it's a lot smaller and more fragile looking than he was expecting, i mean come on it doesn't even have TEETH yet, it can't possible defend itself from predators - and he would probably be scared to hold it at first bc he wouldn't want to drop it or hurt it.
But then he would hold it and it'd be the best thing that ever happened to him and he'd have the BIGGEST heart eyes and he'd look up and Giulia and Luca and be like "We need a dozen more of these" and they'd both be like "NO berto lmao"

Morea random ideas for Luca stories
So I saw a post for a school art show and it reminded me of little stories that could be perfect for books or even a series. Just, basically, the adventures or misadventures of Luca at school. Like doing a science project, taking and cramming for a test, going on field trips, dealing with school bullies, going to dances and other school functions, learning the hard way about time management and realizing he can't take and say yes to every class, group, activity, etc, maybe trying something new like acting in a play, and, this may be difficult cause of the implications, but maybe after gym classes he has to shower off, and he's incredibly nervous to shower off cause he'll turn into a nude sea monster in front of his male classmates; maybe instead they'll have swimming classes for a few weeks in gym, and either Luca gets bullied cause his sea monster form gives him an advantage, or he deals with discrimination because his students and teachers ask him to sit out because he'll be too good at swimming, so it wouldn't be fair to the human students
I also thought how cute it would be if Luca went to a summer camp for two weeks, and worried that he's being robbed of his summer time with Luca, Alberto signs up too, and we have some misadventures with them camping or Alberto not fitting in or not doing well in more academic classes, cause you know Luca will go to a summer camp that'll not just have arts and crafts and camping and games, but maybe it's say also a math and science class with actual classes
I'm going to end this with a possible framing device for episodes of a Luca series, which will harken back to the credits and the Luca short. The episodes would be half hour long and split into eleven minute intervals, with one story taking place in Genova and the other taking place in Portorosso. And each episode starts, and usually ends, with Luca or Alberto narrating via writing a letter to the other. Then some episodes will take place in the summer at Portorosso, and not start and end with a letter writing animation, as both Luca and Alberto would be in Portorosso. And maybe, to shake things up, once in a while, the narrator of the letter being written would be someone else such as Giulia, Luca's parents, Massimo, maybe Ercole.

Chapter 4 is up!! Time to write some one-shots for the soul. <3
Luca has been adapting to school in Genova for the past month, and he's been thoroughly enjoying being here and learning all that he can beside Giulia.

He is surprised when the telephone he keeps on his desk, that is usually kept silent, rings sharply, disturbing his concentration on his reviewing of the dry balance sheets in front of him. A grey cloud chooses exactly that moment to pass through the sun, making the noise that much more mysterious.
He is even more taken aback when a familiar voice comes out of the contraption, echoing with a pleading voice.
"Dante…You've…You've got to help me. It's Lili… Something happened… It was an accident, a terrible… We're at the hospital in Bari, on the fourth floor. Please, please, help me."
The line goes silent before he can manage to respond to anything it was said, and Dante stares at the telephone in shock, demanding it to ring again.
That was his cousin. That was Nicola. That was the one person he had not spoken to in months, all because of a stupid argument, and now, his cousin's fiancée was in trouble. Hurt, it seemed.
Dante does not know what to do for a second, just sits in his chair, staring at the dust floating on the claustrophobic air of his office. Suddenly, he jolts to his feet and then he feels himself grab his hat and coat, jumping into the automobile and ordering the driver to speed his way to Bari.
When he gets there to the first floor, he walks straight ahead to the receptionist desk, coming out of his daze.
"Excuse me, my…" Dante pauses for a millisecond.
He does not know how to word it, because she is not exactly family. A girl he knows from church? His God-inducted duty? The person he is in love with? The girl he thought he would marry ever since he was six?
"My… Sister-in-law is here, fourth floor I'm told, but I don't know what room. Could you help me?" He asks the wavy-haired woman with glasses falling off her long nose.
"What's her name?" She asks, popping her tongue.
"Liliana Adornato."
The receptionist looks at the constantly-changing patient log for the fourth floor. "Ah, Adornato. Fourth floor, room twelve."
Dante takes off, thanking the receptionist, and heads to the fourth floor. Once there, he looks up and down the halls, before finding room number twelve. A young man, with dirty blond hair, sits in a chair outside, hunched over, pressing a hand to his head.
Dante approaches with caution, before recognizing the face. "Nicola?"
"Dante! Oh, thank God!” The usually undevout man seemed to be falling back into old religious habits.
“Nicola.” Dante acknowledge, not quite sure how to proceed. “What happened? Why is Lili in there?”
“She was going out for the market, she wanted to bake some stupid pastry.” He spats the word. “A driver didn’t see her when she was crossing the street and ran over. She’s hurt, and in so much pain! They say… T-they say it's l-life-threatening."
Dante does not know what to say as a thought to mention their argument leaves him with shame burning on his face and disgust in his mind.
Don't talk about that here, it's not right.
He murmurs out, then, a timid 'sorry'.
"I'm terrified, Dante. I…I don't even know why I told you about this…hell, how am I going to tell Elena? Sister Sofia? The damn Church?"
Dante does not even know why he came. Maybe it is just for Lili. Maybe he is evil, and wants the assurance that this would not have happened if she had stayed with him. Maybe he is just human, and is saddened and scared for two people he loved more than life itself.
"This is of no concern now.” The younger man said, even-voiced. “It's best to wait for the final results before you panic."
"Right… Yes, you’re right. I knew that." Nicola sighs deeply, in a frantic mood his cousin did not remember he ever having. "They won't let me in… I don't know how long…"
The door opens as if on cue, and a man with shadowy stubble and square glasses steps out, wiping his brow.
"Mr. Francesca?" He asks for Nicola as Dante watches.
Nicola perks his head up and stands to his feet quickly. "Yes? How is she?"
"She's awake and talking a bit. She wants to see you." The medical doctor says.
Nicola nearly barrels him over and enters the room, leaving his cousin and the medic alone. Dante wanders over to the medic, peering into the room to see his underling kneeling down by Lili's bedside.
"How bad is it?" Dante asks him in a hushed tone, looking at the medic in full concern and seriousness.
"Wherever she got hit, it did some major damage to her internal organs.” The man explains with cold detachment. “If you want my honest opinion, I'm surprised she's even lasted this long. Many don't."
"So…” He stutters. “So how long do you give her?"
"Not long. Even less if the surgery was unsuccessful."
She is on borrowed time. Lili is going to die soon. Soon, Nicola's heart will be dead, too. Dread stirs in his body.
"Thank you." The medic leaves and Dante stands, hovering at the frame of the door. Should I tell him? It'll just hurt him more, right?
The argument comes back, nagging at his brain. He's right, you know he was right. You just didn't want to believe it.
"H-hi Dante."
The high, weak voice brings him out his thoughts and he found himself staring at the bed-ridden blonde girl with a smile. She looks absolutely dreadful and Dante feels positively awful, but seeing her still alive brightens his heart.
"Hi, Lili. How do you feel?" Dante tries to manage a soothing expression.
"As if… As if I am dying.” Her breath was wheezing. “I…I could be better."
"You're going get better though, right, Lili? You're going get better and then you'll get out of here and then you'll marry Nicola, and we'll finally have another member in the family." Dante tells her, trying to reassure not only her, but himself also. She'll overcome this, right?
"That's the plan." Nicola responds as Lili nods a bit.
"Great. I just wanted to see you, I'll be outside. See you around, Lili." Dante leaves the room, leaving the two alone.
"Nicola." Lili addresses, with a hint of seriousness. "I…I have to tell you… Something… That I heard."
"Yes?"
"T-they said… I only have… I am not going to make it, Nicola." Lili is on the cusp of bursting into tears.
"You’re not going to? To…to live?" He asks tentatively.
Lili nods her head.
Nicola is speechless, tears brushing the corner of his eyes. "You'll prove them wrong. I know you can!"
"Yes." Lili suddenly coughs and blanches, the small freckles on the bridge of her nose standing out in stark comparison.
"Lili?" Nicola asks, panicking inside. "What's wrong?"
"I-I don't feel good…"
"Do you want me to get someone?"
"No. I'll be…" She coughs. "F-fine. Believe me."
The blond man stands up. "I'll believe you when you get out of here. I'm going to go get someone."
"If it's time, it's time, Nicola. God waits for no one.” The blonde pointed out, as she was used to hear such things on the services held for the departed during the time she lived at church. “I've…I've thought about it all my life, especially with the way my parents were taken away from me, how we have lived our lives, so… S-so there's no way changing it! You can't have life without d-death, just like you can't have day without… N-night."
The colour in her lips suddenly leaves just as quickly as the colour in her face did. Death is just steps away.
If this was going to happen, if this was really near, reality seeping in, then Nicola decides he is going to tell her exactly how he feels.
"A day without sunshine is like, you know, night." Nicola says quickly and perfectly before losing it. "And… A-and you're the… The… S-sunshine to my… Day… To my life. Please, please, Liliana Adornato, don't leave me. I love you."
"I-I… Love you… Too." She smiles, the colour in her lips still fading fast, with a sad look in her eyes.
Her hand reaches out slowly to him and she takes his hand in hers, raising it to her shaking lips. She presses her lips to the back of his pale hand and she smiles again.
"I…I heard that… That your dreams came true… Did they r-really?" She asks, weakly.
"Yes, of course, love. They…"
Nicola stops and looks at her, realizes it is too late. He searches her face with his eyes and finds no life there.
"No, no, no, no, no! This… It… Can't… Come back! Come back!"
His throat is tightening and it's making it harder to breathe. He gulps for air, tears pooling in his eyes and spilling over, squeezing the hand holding his and he screams.
Outside in the hallway, Dante hears it. His heart pounds in his chest and he almost panics. To anyone else, it could sound like his cousin is being murdered, but Dante knows what it is.
It is the sound of a heart shattering into a million pieces.
He races into the room, and stops halfway when he realizes completely what has happened. His eyes look between his cousin's sobbing face to his was-to-be fiancée's, her pale face still with the etch of a smile on it. Dante thinks she looks just as pretty in death as in life.
"Nicola, I…"
"Just go away, will you?"
"Let me…"
"I said go away!" Anger is taking him over, before it was sorrow, grief, worry. His cousin's different emotions are now like an invisible animal farm, multiple feelings penned up in a corral deep in his mind.
"No." Dante takes a deep breath and blurts, "You were right. I spent too much time on work, and I screwed up every relationship I ever had. I'm sorry."
Dante knows this is the most inappropriate time he could ever say this, but now he cannot take it back.
He breathed out, trying to recompose himself into an indoor voice. "And sorry about your loss. Our loss. The family's loss."
There is a silence between them, with only Nicola's sobs echoing in the air and then there are rushed footsteps. The nurses arrive to take away the body, as Giulia, Leo and some other members of the Family come into the room, having rushed from Burlone, too. The matron wails stridently, and the medical professionals try to contain her.
As the nurses are preoccupied with their other duties, Nicola is still in his kneeled position, and Dante knows he will not let them take him away under no pretence whatsoever.
He walks over cautiously and says in a quiet, soothing voice. "Hey… It's time to go."
His cousin does not say anything, as Dante lays a hand on his shoulder gently, bending down slightly and gripping his arm, pulling him up from the ground. Nicola lets Dante guide him up, clinging onto his cousin's shirt, as Dante is half supporting Nicola's grief-stricken body.
"I-I… I told you… I was right." Nicola says quietly.
"Shh…" Dante replies, drawing his family member closer to him. "Not here. We'll talk about this later, okay?"
Nicola falls silent again, snuffling a few times, sobbing freshly. "My… S-sunshine's gone…"
Dante feels tears well up in his own eyes, as he and his twin step into the hallway filled with sobbing Family members. She is gone for all of us, he thinks. It is like the sun is covered with clouds and cannot break from the darkness. It leaves everyone down and heartbroken.
He is smart, and he knows his place. He knows what he has to do, and he will perform it famously. No one will ever know that it shatters his own heart to millions of pieces.
No one will know that his sunshine is gone, too.

So, I’m exhausted, but Chapter 3 is up! Writing is harder than I remember. Or maybe it’s the ADD. It also sucks when you’re trying to build the plot up slowly, but you’re also super impatient, ahaha. Anywaysss... Go read it? UwU
Luca has been adapting to school in Genova for the past month, and he's been thoroughly enjoying being here and learning all that he can beside Giulia.
