Barry M Summer 2019 Nail Launch + 4 Ways To Wear It

Barry M just launched 5 new summer nail shades and I’ve got some nail art ideas on how you can make the most of this colourful new range : 

The punchy new colours feature 4 new Gelly Shades (Tangerine, Blueberry Muffin, Pink Grapefruit and Banana Split) along with a new multi dimensional icicle effect topcoat called Fortune Teller. These all launched online in mid May and became available from  22 May in Superdrug stores nation wide : 

I absolutely LOVE the  new Gelly shades as they have a really intense colour pigment which makes for fun nail art. You can mix the colours together to create new shades as well -  below I mixed Banana Split and Blueberry Muffin to create a gorgeous new green shade : 

I’ve been feeling really inspired by all the abstract nail art trending at the moment and took inspiration from this image by nail artist @naildose_  who has a wonderful way of presenting interesting and unusual manicures : 

To get a similar feel using the new collection, I used this fluid application style with two coats of the new Barry M Fortune Teller Topcoat. After applying the glittery top coat, I used the Lecente S1 Striper brush dipped into Blueberry Muffin to create a random fluid line down the centre of the nail. I then cleaned the brush and applied  Barry M Black Nail Polish to the striper brush, dragging it along the previous line. It’s very easy to do and as it’s freestyle you can have fun without feeling any pressure to keep things particularly neat : 

Another really fun way to wear these popping new shades  is to combine stamping techniques with freehand art. Below I used the Maniology (formally Bundle Monster) Festival Coachella Stamping collection on top of the new Barry M Tangerine Gelly Paint. I applied two coats of Tangerine, then used the BM S303 Plate to get the palm trees and fair ground images on the middle of the nails. I then used the Lecente S1 Striping brush to create random coloured strokes on the two middle fingers (the green shade was created mixing the new Banana Split shade with Blueberry Muffin.) To get the pattern on the outer nails I stamped Barry M Gelly Paint Banana Split over the bottom middle Bundle Monster Cochella BM S304 nail pattern then roughly went over the design by hand with a striping brush and all the new shades to give it a more textured finish  :

Staying true to the colourful nature of the new collection I created two more sets of nails using these fluid strokes of colour applied with the Lecente S1 Striping brush :

For my recent manicure I brought back the crackle trend to combine it with gel polish from Gelish.  I used China Glaze Crackle Glaze in Cracked Medallion, thinking it would look nice with Gelish Gardenia My Heart. The final look is pretty cool, but I think a bigger difference in the base color and the crackle color would have been more eye-catching.

Ann Kristin • She had just bought a new caravan and was going to go on holiday with her husband and I knew the car she has. The rest was guess work but I hit the nail on the head – at least that is what she said! This kind of reaction makes me so happy! I used my Schmincke Horadam Aquarell watercolours on Fabriano Watercolor Paper. Also I used a tiny bit of my Kuretake White Ink 30 to set a few highlights, a gelly roll pen and some Pigma Micron pens for details. I then fussy cut out all the items and the grass, coloured the edges and mounted it all on a card base in sunshine yellow with matching envelope. Lastly, I had cut the name out with my Silhouette Cameo and glued some layers on top of each other to make it a solid piece. This glued card stock is as sturdy as chip board! I tinted the name with a little gold watercolour and also glued it to the card. As usual I added an inner part to the card out of matching writing paper which I cut with a pair of deckled edge scissors by hand to give it even more of a handmade feel. Product Review : Barry M Gelly + Under The Sea AW18 Launches

Ahhh Barry M are just bang on trend this Autumn with these tasty new colours! They’ve launched 8 more shades (4 in the Gelly Range and 4 in the Under the Sea Range) which are available now from Boots/ Superdrug and of course https://www.barrym.com

Gelly AW18

The four new gelly colours consist of four  beautiful warm tones and one cool shade. Above from left Spearmint, Nutmeg, Ginger & Rhubarb. These Gelly colours are super pigmented only requiring two colour coats : 

Under The Sea AW18

If you haven’t already tried these you’ll see below that they give more of a pearlescent finish - great for adding texture overlays to nail art. I tend to use these more pearl finishes over other colours to add dimension. On their own you would need about 3 colour coats to get a stronger more pigmented finish but they are meant to be quite sheer.

I’ve created a few manicures below for inspiration using the new shades and based on current nail trends. 

Abstract  Elements 

Abstract manicures are still very much on trend, but if you don’t have time to draw little triangles and shapes all over your nails *because really who does* why not try something like this split shape manicure? I chose to use a metallic silver base for this look, then using Mo You London’s Fashionista stamping plate, I created this fun Hounds Tooth pattern using Barry M Matte Black polish. Once completely dry I applied two coats of the new Barry M Spearmint Gelly  polish on one side of the nail only. This is a fun way to add a little bit of pop to your Autumn style and compliment more simple outfits : 

Animal Prints 

Animal print patterns are everywhere and of course the go to for most people will be classic leopard print, but if you want to stand out from the crowd without being too much of a walking cliche how about mixing it up with some Zebra stripes? For this look I used a neon orange base, followed by Barry M Matte Black polish with Mo You London’s Trend Hunter stamping plate. Once dried I added a layer of the new Pacific Flame Under the Sea Polish to give this slightly iridescent hue to the nail. I think it’s really fun and makes for a nice change if you don’t want to look like you copied your nails straight off the runway! The Under the Sea shades are perfect for creating quick and pretty iridescent finishes to nail looks : 

Autumn Patterns 

If you’re not opposed to a little bit of nail art but want to stick to a simple design, Hounds Tooth is a classic Autumn - Winter pattern. I used the Mo You London Fashionista Collection 10 stamping plate with Barry M Matte Black polish over a silver base and finished with a layer of the new Under The Sea Moonfish to give this pretty metallic hue :
