Self Insert Handplates BittyBones Story- ACT THREE- Getting to Know Each Other
The sizzling of eggs on a pan broke the tense and awkward air that was in your kitchen. Or, well, you attempted to, "So, uh, what do you guys like to do for fun?"
2-P's small eyelights lit up, "OH! WE DO PUZZLES! DO YOU LIKE PUZZLES, BIG PERSON Y/N?"
You shrugged your shoulders and sighed, "I have a few jigsaw puzzles in my closet. Other than that, I've never really been a puzzle person." Taking the eggs off of the plate, you places them on some mini plates you had lying around. Pouring milk into two shot glasses from your drinking days, you placed the plates and glasses in front of the boys. "There you go guys! Enjoy!" You looked around for a moment, you gasped, "Wait, I forgot forks!" You grabbed two forks and put them next to the plates. "There, NOW enjoy." They, unexpectedly, ignored the forks and dug in with their hands, which made you mentally face palm. 'Ugh, of COURSE! They're too small to handle forks! I have to get, like, tiny doll forks or something." You shook your head, looking to see cleaned plates. You smiled, "How was it?"
2-P beamed at you, "OH, IT WAS WONDERFUL. THAT WAS THE BEST MEAL I'VE EVER HAD!"
You blushed out of embarrassment, "Aw, dude, that's so sweet." You smiled, and his face just got brighter. His brother, though, was not as trusting. He just watched the interaction at a distance, not bothering to speak. At some point while you where spacing out, however, 2-P has brought his brother over.
"BIG PERSON Y/N! THIS IS MY BROTHER! HERE!" 2-P nudged his brother over to you while you were cleaning up.
"hey, bro no, cmon."
"NONSENSE BROTHER, TALK TO HER!"
1-S rolled his eyelights, sighed, and slouched, "hey."
You waved, "Hey." You paused, then got an idea, "You guys like video games?"
"never heard of 'em." 2-P just shook his head.
"Well that's no good! We HAVE to play video games together soon. I have a whole bunch of games on my computer. I also play Tetris, which, is also kinda like a puzzle in it's own way."
It had been a while after that. About twelve hours, to be more clear. Even though you didn't really know them all that well, you began to fall back on the 'husk' form you always knew. You weren't the kindness person, after all. Or that was what everybody you knew told you. Well, besides Jessica, but she lived so far away that the only way of contacting her would be facetime or her phone. You sighed and leaned by in bed. The skeletons were in the guest room were you found them, leaving the door open just a bit to where they could come get you if they needed something. Everybody in the city claims that you always looked, dead? "A husk of what you used to be," was what the lady a few rooms over told you. She, apparently, knew you long enough to know that. You stared at the ceiling, trying to process what had happened. So, you had two skeleton children, or, what you think are children, in your house. You now have to go out more to feed all three of you instead of just yourself. You need to look up tiny skeletons now, which is what you did. You pulled out your phone and typed in 'tiny skeletons,' but found nothing until you scrolled for a little bit to find a sketchy website. You clicked on it, which gave you a ton of info on what you were looking for. Apparently, these guys were 'selling' a small skeleton in a lab coat. The skeleton appeared to be older and taller than the two you found, and he looked BEYOND tired. You heaved yourself out of bed and called the number. Whatever they were doing to that poor soul wasn't good. You knew what abuse looked like, after all.
"Hello?" A scruffy voice on the other end answered after what seemed like endless rings.
"Uhhh... Yea, I saw the website for the skeleton and was wondering how much you were charging for him."
"Name?"
"Oh, shit, yea, Y/N's my name... sorry about that," You heard a pen collide with paper on the other end.
"Little shit's free as long as your don't say anything."
"Really? Oh, ok, then, when are you willing to meet up?"
"Now." You got a little nervous at his tone, but shrugged it off.
"Can I have the address, please?"
He gave you the address and you wrote it down on a post it note. "Alright! I'll be there as soon as I can!" A grunt was all you got as a response as you hung up and sped walked down the hall and into the guest bedroom. "Hey guys, I'm gonna be gone for a few hours or something, ok?" They nodded and you smiled, "Alright! Bye guys! See you later!" They waved and you ran down the hall and out the door. Running to your parking spot, you jumped into the car and put the key. You didn't give a damn about other people other than Jessica, but you DID happen to care about animals and, skeletons, now.
As you drove, a mom like instinct kicked through your veins telling you to huRRY UP AND GET THAT GOD DAMN SKELETON FROM THAT STUPID MOTHER FU- your thoughts were interrupted by your upbeat ringtone. You picked up and spoke, "Hello?"
"Are you almost there? I haven't got all day."
"Ah, yes, I'm just pulling into the place now. Sorry about the wait, mister um..."
"Eric."
You pulled in and got out of the car, trying not to seem nervous. You put on a 'husk' face and slouched. You put a hand out and he took it. He practically threw the cage he had, guessing it was the skeleton. It wasn't a squeak like you heard with 2-P, but more like a cut off scream that was heard when the cage collided with your chest. Before you could talk to him, he had already gone back in the house. You sighed, guess you have another skeleton now. Trying not to jostle the cage too much, you place the cage in the passenger seat. "So... uh... hi?"
...no response. Can't say you didn't expect that.
Gaster's POV
Cages were the new normal were he ended up. This... human girl was trying to talk to him. She seemed like a kind person, judging by her SOUL color. Kindness was sometimes contagious, or so he heard. He wanted to scream, cry, do ANYTHING! But... he couldn't. His spine hurt from the impact of the cage being thrown. He's practically going insane from the lack of nicotine. He's extremely tired from lack of sleep. His head was spinning and he felt like he was gonna throw up despite not having a stomach.
The girl's voice was kind of sad when she spoke, "I... uh, don't really know what happened with you, and a part of me doesn't really wanna know. But, I'm gonna help! Or, well, TRY to help. Don't, like, take that to heart though. Wait, was that offensive? Oh goodness, I'm not... I don't... I sorry." He peaked through the holes to see her slouching more than she was before.
Gaster spoke, "I'm fine, that statement was not offensive, do not worry."
She sighed, "Oh, that's a relief. Here I thought I completely soiled my first impression towards you." She laughed, albeit a small one. "I'm not really the most, sociable of people, so I'm not really good at the whole 'communicating' thing, ya know?"
He nodded, he knew what being nonsocial able was like. He was just like that back... underground... Wait, ARE THEY ON THE SURFACE?! He coughed, "Human? Where are we right now?"
She tapped her chin, "Uh, pulling into my driveway right now, why?"
"No reason."
She gasped, which made him flinch on impulse, "I never told you about the boys!" 'Who?' "I'm not sure if you know them, but they're really sweet! When... 2-P is most of the ti-"
"Who?"
"2-P! I found him in my guest bedroom. His brother's there too! You're gonna love 'em, I just know it! So, do you want me to carry you, or do you prefer the cage?"
"I... do not mind."
"I'm just gonna carry you, then." He didn't move when she opened the cage and picked him up. 2-P... and 1-S, were with this human this whole time? He'll have to check them for injuries, but he had a feeling that they were not. She pushed the door open and kicked off her shoes, slowly walking into the kitchen. She placed her hand on the table and he climbed off of it. "Alright! I'm gonna go get them! Be right back!" She waved and ran down the hall, leaving Gaster alone with his thoughts. He didn't even know where they WERE and that was the least of his problems. He didn't even know where to BEGIN when it came to finding answers for this... this... commotion that was his life right now! First, Eric. Now, some human girl who just happened to have his things! He sighed and buried his head in his hands.
This was going to be a... troubling experience.

Deltarune Theory Discussion
If you have not finished Chapter 2 of Deltarune and do not want spoilers I would suggest scrolling past a view other posts right now as this post will be VERY spoiler heavy.
So before I begin I kinda have to talk about my Chapter 1 theories.
We barely knew anything so I believed Kris was just Frisk but didn’t want player controlling them and so they removed their heart. I also believed Chara was the black knight even with no evidence. I was kinda swayed from Game theories video about maybe Asriel but when thinking about it, it doesn't make sense.
Okay onto my current theory.
From lines within the game we have a rough idea of what happened before the game started. First we know Kris has a pattern of sleeping in class but also taking a long in the bath with the subtext she is sneaking out 5 minutes tops(I say that because I think someone would’ve gotten suspicious within the household if Kris went out longer than that.
From subtext we can conclude a few things. Kris has made their soul leave their body before, probably sneaks out while their soul is not in their body. Currently we do not know why or what for but chapter 2′s ending shows up Kris is the Black knight making these dark fountains and so probably did this chapter’s one after they took their soul out at the end of chapter 1 and most likely before chapter 0.
We do know a bit of Kris MO as when being the black Knight. Make a form of a mess, have a door open and then boom. Now in chapter 1, this door was the door to the closet was opened. In chapter 2 it was the cords, the door being another closet. Now at the end it was the TV and opening the front door.
Now I don’t think Kris was in the dark world before us playing given by the fact that Ralsei has met Kris for the first time in chapter 1. What I think though is that Lancer’s dark world has been opened for a very long time. As long as Asriel has been away at college.
I think Kris has was hurt Asriel was going to leave her that she opened another fountain so they can play in the dark world together but asriel said no. So when Kris has to confront the dark world in chapter 1 with someone  she doesn’t know very well but ends up bonding with, she opens another one open to play, and now another one.
Or Kris has learnt about the Titans from someone who she has been sneaking out to meet who told her about everything and is either taught to take out her soul and do these things or Kris learnt to take out her own soul to do these things.
Whoever this person is wants to bring chaos by bringing forth titans. Kris is upset about her brother leaving so this person uses that and starts grooming this child to become the one who will bring forth the titans but knows that a souls need to be removed for this to go through
I think it probably was the day before chapter 1 Kris put the fountain up and her body was surprised we the player stumbled upon it. Funny thing player takes over her body and ends up undoing everything they did the next day huh.
I think player only was summonsed to take control over Kris’ body probably by someone else. They saw what someone and Kris were doing so they put play into the a human vessel to top the problem. This someone is the someone who starts the game off and is the only who will ask if we give up and if so the world turns black because you couldn’t stop the titans. They are probably the person who put us in Frisk’s body in the last game
Now, Voice Overcome and Someone who wants the titans could both be Gaster. Gaster who split himself into many pieces is either the only putting us in bodies to stop chaos or the person who has split himself into many pieces to do chaos and make sure chaos happens in every world so Humans could be fucked over. It could be either.
For all we know it could be Papyrus. He has been awfully quite and hasn't shown up lmao.

Note
5 and 14 from the DnD asks for Goop?
1. What influenced or inspired the creation of this character?
I basically wanted to make my own version of Gaster. The idea I started with was “he’s not good, but he’s not bad either”, and how to make that interesting. I’m pretty proud of how he came out. He’s gotta be the most fleshed out character I’ve ever had.
2. What is your character’s relationship with their family? Family is a word which here refers to biological relatives, close companions, and/or the individual(s) who raised them.
He’ll always love his parents, and he loves his sons more than anything. He also loves Kid too, although in a different way. Kid is basically family now too, and he’d do anything for him.
3. Who is the closest person to them?
Definitely his kids.
4. What were the conditions surrounding their formative years?
He grew up in a very loving, maybe a little strict household that nurtured everything good about him.
Of course when the war started he lost a lot of that. But if it weren’t for his parents he would have grown up to be a much more cruel person.
5. What creature would they like to have as a pet?
Chickens. He loves chickens.
6. Do they have any bad habits?
God where do I start? This bastard does not like to take care of himself at all, doesn’t like to talk things out, is afraid of disappointing those he cares about...
7. Is there anyone they’d die for? Kill for?
He’d die for his kids. He’d kill for them too. And Kid.
(Kid would definitely not approve tho.)
8. Who was their first love?
Sexually/romantically no one! He’s ace/aro. Kid gets close, but they’re more queerplatonic than anything more.
9. How would this character react to someone confessing their love for them?
He would be very confused and ask why. Maybe laugh, depending on who it was.
10. How old is this character?
... Old. He’s very old. lol
11. Are they normally peaceful or aggressive?
Aggressive. lol
12. How does this character handle stress?
Depends on the stress! Goop attacks things head on a lot, but if something really gets to him he has a habit of shutting down and then falling apart (literally) later.
13. Does your character consider themselves lucky?
Absolutely.
14. What is their favorite holiday?
He doesn’t have one. He vaguely remembers monster-specific holidays but can’t remember the specifics.
15. What is the best gift they could receive?
Companionship.
16. If they could instantly kill one person in the world without consequence, who would it be?
I mean, he’s already done that himself (Flowey and the anomaly). But those aside if he came across a Gaster that hurt his kids he’d do them in pretty quick.
17. If they were in possession of a trio of wishes, what would their three wishes be?
Oof... this one is hard.
A very, very large part of him would want things like... the war never happening or monsters never getting sealed underground, never destroying his own timeline, etc. ... But he knows if none of those things happened he wouldn’t be where he is today. He wouldn’t have a family he loves so much.
About the only thing he might think of would be to have his old body back, but the other wishes would be given to his kids.
18. What is their favorite spell or method of attack?
He loves his huge, ridiculous blaster.
19. What are their guilty pleasures?
He watches weird science experiment youtube videos for hours on end.
20. What is something this character is or could be addicted to?
Alcohol.
21. Have you actually played this character yet?
Yep! ❤ Was some of the most fun I ever had.

DELTARUNE
So, there are plenty of allusions/paralles to Undertale in Deltarune and some easter eggs. I’ve made a list of the ones that I managed to find/catch. I’m pretty sure there are more of them.
1. There is an easter egg with naming your vessel and yourself. Like in Undertale using names of characters from the game will trigger a special dialogue (and like in Undertale naming your vessel or yourself “Gaster” will close the game).
Tumblr media
2. When you look through the window in your room there is reference to Sans’ genocide fight.
Tumblr media
3. A reference to Tsundere Cactus from Undertale, but in Deltarune it’s just an average cactus.
Tumblr media
4. Recognizing yourself in the mirror.
Tumblr media
5. Toriel hugs Kris almost the same way she hugs Frisk.
Tumblr media
6. Alphys is still a weeaboo obsessed with Mew Mew ^^
Tumblr media
7. Temmie still has the EG, but this time she is a partner not a proud parent.
Tumblr media
8. If you try using your phone in the Dark World it will start making “Gaster noises”.
Tumblr media
9. Ralsei’s cloak resembels the one that River Person wears (could River Person be a Darkner?)
Tumblr media
10. Lancer’s bike might be a reference to Sans’ bike from the True Pacifist credit scene.
Tumblr media
11. How Ralsei introduces us to the game mechanics is like a combination of both Flowey’s and Toriel’s tutorials. Telling what a soul is and how the fighting works is “Flowey’s part” and usage of Dummy and sparing being a preferable option is “Toriel’s part”.
Tumblr media
12. Possibly a parallel to comforting a goatbro (Ralsei is a Goat/Boss Monster and a prince just like Asriel).
Tumblr media
13. The shopkeepr hints a secret battle with Jevil in the early stage of the game.
Tumblr media
15. The plush that Seam has on a shelf has is a reference to one of the Temmie Chang’s (she helped Toby create Undertale) characters, but I couldn’t find a picture of it.
Tumblr media
16. Seam also gives us hints that Jevil knows Gaster. Here’s a video with a full dialogue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PukI_JTyVg
Tumblr media
17.  The crown that K. Round wears might be reference to Super Crown, but the way it works is a ref to the big shroom power up. The sound that K. Round makes while growing up and shrinking is very similar to the sound from Mario games.
Tumblr media
18. It is surely a reference to Sans’ room door (the weird glow), but it may also have something to do with Gaster’s grey door.
Tumblr media
19. The sequence that Lancer and Susie perform is possibly a reference to Team R’s sequence from Pokemon series.
Tumblr media
20. Possibly an Undertale Yellow easter egg? (the main charater is named Clover in UT:Y)
Tumblr media
21. Even if you got rid of that tree you can still interact with it and get the dialogie box.
Tumblr media
22. Lancer misses his attacks on Susie the same way Toriel does that when Frisk has low HP.
Tumblr media
23. The theme that plays on floor ?????? inside the Card Castle uses the leitmotif of Gaster’s Theme. (can’t find a link with the theme)
Tumblr media
24. A reference to Patrick from cartoon “Spongebob Squarepants”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNZSXnrbs_k
Tumblr media
25. Another Pokemon’s reference.
Tumblr media
26. You can interact with these pictures, when you interact with all 3 of them they’ll make a splat noise. I’m not sure if it does anything else.
Tumblr media
27. Lancer has the same weird pics in his room, you can interact with them too, but they won’t make splat noise. But on the other hand there are CDs with recorded splat noises (the same that 3 previous pics make).
Tumblr media
28. She talks about the cake that Susie ate ealier.
Tumblr media
29. A missing pixel lmao
Tumblr media
30. The cards and chess are references to the enemies from Dark World. There’s also a plushie of Shopkeer Seam under the board.
Tumblr media
31. Kris looks similar to unused Frisk sprite.
Tumblr media
32. The word “library” is still misspelled.
Tumblr media
33. Temmie still wants to go to colleg. That’s the spirit!
Tumblr media
34. Apparently Alphys prefers Mew Mew 2 now.
Tumblr media
35. Heats Flamesman reference.
Tumblr media
36. Just Toby at work.
Tumblr media
37. He’s slacking off however.
Tumblr media
38. We finally know after which monster Gaster Follower 3 was modeled.
Tumblr media
39. Deltarune is definitely a different universe/timeline, cause Undyne doesn’t know Alphys and she still has both eyes. Also Bratty and Catty not only barely know each other, but they hate each other as well (in Undertale they are best friends).
Tumblr media
40. On the left - dude who bought Muffet’s donut and regreted that later on, on the right - that weirdo from Napstablook’s snail farm.
Tumblr media
41. Police station and Undyne’s house share the same doormat.
Tumblr media
42. The big mouth monster that was spending time at Grillby’s, also a possible reference to nurse Joy from Pokemon series.
Tumblr media
43. A reference to the absurdly tall sink from skelebros’ house. (also that blue bear might be inspired by 5.0.5 from Villainous)
Tumblr media
44. Gerson is dead in Deltarune, also his last name is Boom. The hammer on his tombstone refers to his “nickname from war times” from Undertale - Hammer of Justice.
Tumblr media
45. The tombstones of monster who were amalgamates in original Undertale, but since in Deltarune Alphys was never a Royal Scientist, all of this monsters just died. From left to right - Snowdrake’s Mother, the dog (Endogeny), Shyren sister (Lemon Bread).
Tumblr media
46. Hand Receptionist from MTT Resort and politics bear from Snowdin.
Tumblr media
47. That weird cube-dog-like monster from Sans’ crossword.
Tumblr media
48. A reference to Purple Guy from game series FNAF (in Deltarune Burgerpants works at Pizzeria after all, hello?! it must be it xD).
Tumblr media
49. A bunny shopkeepr from Snowdin, the guy who works in Core, the Ice Wolf (and he finally has pants as he wanted), Fuku Fire and Skateboard girl (but they already graduated), the lion monster who is a fan of Mettaton and gets a dress from him after his musical, and the dragon dude who couldn’t return to his family cause the elevator at MTT Resort was turned off.
Tumblr media
50. Sans’ store is literally Grillby’s bar, but the name “Grillby” was removed and Sans added “ans” to the letter “S”. But he didn’t remove apostrophe. Well done Sans, well done.
Tumblr media
51. A reference to Spider-Man, “I’m your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man”. Sans even calls Kris “tiger” which is how MJ calls Peter (I forgot to make a screenshot of it tho).
Tumblr media
52. F#ck you Sans xD
Tumblr media
53. “trousle of bones” - it obviously refers to Papyrus’ theme Bonetrousle.
Tumblr media
54. Little bunny in the window is a child of that bunny monster who runs Snowdin Inn.
Tumblr media
55. A monster from Snowdin who loves knocks lives there. And apparently Kris is not as good at knocking as Frisk is.
Tumblr media
56. In the alley where you meet Alphys again there is a painting of Everyman (attack of Reaper Bird - one of the amalgamates). You can’t escape from your sins Alphys, even in another universe/timeline.
Tumblr media
57. Asgore’s introduction dialogue in Deltarune is literally the same as in Undertale.
Tumblr media
58. These flowers are an obvious allusion/parallel to the souls containers. The golden flower in the middle might be representing the empty container for Frisk’s determination soul. If you remember, in Undertale Alphys used a golden flower as a empty vessel to inject determination and that flower became Flowey later on.
Tumblr media
59. RG01 and RG02 are still together, and for some reason they are still wearing helmets even tho the Royal Guard is most likely not a thing in Deltarune xD
Tumblr media
60. If you wait long enough by the lake Onionsan will appear. He will ask what’s our name and will want to become friends. He also doesn’t remember his own name due to being alone for too long, so we have an option to gave him one.
Tumblr media
61. He also might have a dark secret hehe
Tumblr media
62. So there is most likely Mettaton, but we have no idea what’s up with Blooky. I’m hoping that in chapter 2 we will find out Mettaton’s canon ghost form and maybe his real name. Also I doubt that in Deltarune Mettaton has machine body, since Alphys never was a Royal Scientist in this universe/timeline.
Tumblr media
63. Chara possession much? also a hint to the ending of Deltarune chapter 1
Tumblr media
64. After Kris locks his soul in the cage you can still move it, but you can’t escape.
Tumblr media
65. The glowing red eyes, Post Genocide Pacifist vibes are strong in this one.
Tumblr media
These are all the allusions/parallel and easter eggs I was able to find. I’m sure there are more. Also there are some that I forgot to screenshot such as “characters titles” in party menu change: - Kris has a title of Leader, but if you check all 4 beds in Card Castle he has a title of Bed Inspector - Ralsei title changes after giving him different scarf There’s also at least one Annoying Dog easter egg in the party menu. Not to mention the anagrams: Deltarune - Undertale Ralsei - Asriel So yeah, that’s all folks. Hope you enjoyed, bye!

Shortcuts are an exact science.
Shortcuts are an exact science. They move through the Void—an infinitely-collapsing nothing dimension that takes up no space and time, but at the same time is uniform all across whenever it is accessed. The Void is a constant, while Sans and anyone following him and the starting point and the destination and a couple other environmental considerations are the variables. Most of the magic cost of a shortcut comes of enforcing regular six-dimensional reality onto the Void long enough to use it as a path to a regular six-dimensional destination.
If it’s just Sans taking a shortcut, he can cut out most of the cost—a relative second or two in the void won’t remove him from reality like it would most folks.
Sometimes he remembers why that is, sometimes he doesn’t. But he always remembers that the Void will hesitate to destroy him. The Void is as safe for Sans as…well, a relatively safe space in a dimension of infinite entropic constants. If he’s gonna have trouble with a shortcut, it’s gonna be in the world of variables, in himself or where he pops out or what he did wrong in his calculations.
Sans is very fast and very accurate in his calculations. He hasn’t shortcut himself into a staircase or table since…he can’t remember when. There was one time in particular, he thinks…
He’s pretty sure it’d scared…someone…Papyrus(?) so bad that he’d gotten a strongly-worded lecture about respecting the seriousness of his studies and not using highly advanced, theoretical magic to save ten seconds of walking. And the dangers of the Void, which always makes him snort when he thinks about it.
Come to think of it, he’s pretty sure he remembers Pap also being there for that conversation, saying he’s sure Sans knew what he was doing, and Sans wouldn’t endanger himself carelessly, so it must have just been a mistake, right, Sans?
That had actually made him feel worse than the lecture.
And then Papyrus had taken him quietly aside later, and asking him Could You Have Fallen Down If You Did A Mistake? in the way that meant Tell Me You Care More About Your Life Than This, I Know You Are Better Than This, I Am Already Impressed By Your Accomplishments And Wish You Wouldn’t Show Off If It Could Hurt You. If Sans recalls correctly, he’d said something like…
“nah, paps, i was just—i was just being dumb, wasn’t thinking, forgot we moved that table, didn’t even hurt, right? just felt weird for a bit, it’s, uh, um.” He’d let out a breath and hung his head, unable to look at his brother’s increasing distress. “sorry. i shouldn’t have been showing off. i was just…yeah. that was stupid of me.”
He’d just been having fun with having a part of his studies he could show off to Papyrus and ****** without having to practically write a thesis to explain what it was and why it was kinda cool. Theory is great—Sans loves theory—but it was fun to have a practical application, and a useful one at that. He’d just gotten kinda carried away.
He’d thought he was being all responsible, owning up to what he did wrong (at least to Papyrus; he’d taken his brother’s out in front of ******) and apologizing for it, but Paps had seen right through him.
“That Was Actually Pretty Cool, Though,” Papyrus had said. Sans had perked up entirely, forgoing scuffing his shoes on the floor in favor of basking in his brother’s admiration.
“right? isn’t it? i can teleport!” he’d said. “i mean. maybe i should have…tested it out a bit more. it kind of was an ‘irrational and dangerous misuse of untested theoretical physics,’ and all. lab safety is cool. that was…kinda not that.”
Not to mention how the shortcut that had taken him halfway through a table in the lab hadn’t been his first shortcut—he’d shortcut straight to Papyrus once he had a decent idea of how to balance out his equations for it, and spent most of the afternoon tweaking his technique and teleporting circles around his brother. That had been the opposite of lab safety. Especially when he left the lab to do it.
Somehow, Sans had figured he was just smart enough that nothing would go wrong. “You’re never too good to make mistakes” is a lesson he’d learned later.
“I Was Not Really Encouraging Good Science Habits, Either,” Papyrus had admitted at the time. “It’s Very Cool That You Have Discovered This Neat Way To Use Your Magic! But! In The Future! Maybe We Can Make A Corner Of The Room That We Don’t Put Things In? And Then? You Use Your Cool New Magic To Go There? And Not In A? Table???”
Sans hadn’t said it then, because he’d had some sort of hang-up where he didn’t say it out loud, but that had been one of the many times that Papyrus had been so cool. Even when Sans had been, in hindsight, kind of insufferably proud of his scientific leanings, Papyrus always let him know that he thought what Sans was doing was cool and impressive, and that he was proud of his brother’s accomplishments.
Sans can remember that incident most of the time, even though it doesn’t really make sense with the memories he also has where he never told Paps about his interest in science, and told him he was going to dentistry school instead. The dentistry story is the one he always remembers, though, so that must have…ugh. It always gives him a headache to remember this stuff.
Not worth the effort. He’s never gonna get that past back anyway, so why bother sorting out what really happened? Better to take what he has now: the coolest brother in the world, some pretty good friends, some pretty bad jokes, the sky. The Surface.
He’d never been as impressed by the idea of the Surface as other monsters seemed to be—seemed like it couldn’t be that great when Sans already had everything he needed underground with him. Not worth risking that for some world they’d been cut off from for thousands of years, right?
Stars, he’s never been happier to be wrong.
What he has now is everything he’d ever had underground, plus an ever-widening world of friends and family; sights to see, foods to try, things to avoid doing. He sure is glad he did absolutely nothing while Frisk did all the work of getting the Barrier down.
At least, he assumes he did nothing. Frisk won’t say what happened, and no one else remembers.
There are a lot of things Frisk won’t say. And it’s not just because they don’t talk much.
Doesn’t stop them from being a curious kid, though.
Today, Sans is relaxing, enjoying his escape from Alphys’s “SELF-ESTEEM TRAINING!!!” with Papyrus and Undyne, when Frisk trots up to him and stops, staring down at him insistently.
“‘sup, buddy?” he asks. “you find a cool rock somewhere?”
Frisk sometimes brings artifacts back from their adventures—clothes, tools, toys; almost always human artifacts that they seem to pick up from where no human had any business being in the first place.
Doesn’t look like that’s what’s going on now, though. They just have their stick with them, and the locket they picked up somewhere Underground. They’re clutching their shirt hem.
“…home?” they ask, craning their head to look behind them. They scan the surrounding buildings and trees at the edge of town before they check on Paps and crew.
Sans scans the area, too. Frisk hadn’t gone far—he’d been keeping an eye socket on them, or at least their SOUL; they hadn’t been out of his sight for more than a few minutes.
Then again, they do get nervous when they haven’t seen Toriel or Asgore for a while, even after years have passed and their new parents have failed to abandon them. Maybe they’re just antsy?
Undyne suplexes a dumpster unexpectedly, and Frisk whips around to face the noise, one hand outstretched like they would shield Sans from Undyne’s reign of terror against his fellow piles of garbage.
A tense moment passes. Frisk stares at Undyne, who is attempting to suplex Alphys, who is being carried by Papyrus. It looks like they’re playing some sort of keep-away game.
“pretty jumpy there, buddy,” Sans notes. Frisk glances at him, before going back to scanning their (still perfectly normal) surroundings. “makes a guy wonder. what’s rattling your bones?”
Not even a huff. Frisk just shrugs uncomfortably.
“come on. you can trust me, right? tell your buddy sans what’s wrong.” He winks his right eye.
Frisk squirms. They’ll break in a second, Sans is sure of it. Just a little more pressure…
Frisk’s eyes dart away, focusing intently on nothing, and their body twists to follow their gaze. They trot towards it two paces without even seeming to realize it, before their movement is arrested.
They reach up to clutch at something—hard to say what, from Sans’s vantage point on the ground behind them. Their collar, maybe?
They back up a half pace, making the tiniest conflicted noise. They shake their head.
“uh. frisk?” Sans asks.
Frisk glances at him, turning to keep both him and the point of nothing that’s caught their attention in their field of view.
Sans doesn’t know a lot about human eyesight, but if he doesn’t miss his guess, they’re focusing far away. Are they looking at the end of town or past it?
He can’t see anything there, but Frisk sometimes knows things he doesn’t. He’ll have to come back here later and see if he can rustle anything up.
“Home,” Frisk insists. “We shouldn’t be here.”
They reach down towards Sans, and Sans forgoes jokes for a moment to let them pull him up. Frisk doesn’t seem like they’d take the old whoopee cushion joke too well right now.
Normally that wouldn’t stop him, but he doesn’t want to be the shout that causes the avalanche. Frisk is pretty fearless normally. Whatever’s spooked them could be pretty…spooky.
They don’t let go of Sans once he’s on his feet, choosing instead of grab his sleeve and tug insistently. He lets them propel him along, taking an arcing path towards the others.
If the kid’s keeping an even radius from whatever’s scared them, that puts it past a stand of trees. Nothing he can see right now, and they shouldn’t be able to, either.
Sans stares at the back of Frisk’s head. what’s going on here, kiddo?
Frisk doesn’t seem to notice, focused between Papyrus and the trees, until they glance back at him again.
“Do you…” they start. Then they shake their head, apparently deciding that whatever it is, he doesn’t.
“oh, yeah. all the time,” he says vaguely.
“No, no. Nothing. Nothing,” Frisk says. “It’s—did you ever—work with—nothing. Never mind.”
“i’ve had a few jobs, kiddo, i’ve worked with a lot of people,” Sans comments. “maybe a name would jog my memory?”
It’s not a joke, but Frisk snorts, only a little off-beat.
“No, it wouldn’t. Never mind. You should go home. Bring everyone. Game night.” They tug Sans forward and push him the last few feet, to Papyrus, Undyne and Alphys.
The training crew has politely paused midway through a game of catch with Alphys as the ball. Undyne sets her down by the head as Sans and Frisk approach.
“What’s up? Here to join in our EPIC TRAINING SESH?!?” she shouts.
The force of her passion generates a gust of wind that goes right through Sans. Frisk, on the other hand, has to cling to his hoodie to avoid being pushed back, at least until Papyrus’s blue magic anchors them more firmly to the ground.
“Brother! I Am Glad You Have Finally Chosen To Join Us, Instead Of Sitting Under A Tree And Being Lazy All Day! I Am…Surprised You Have Finally Chosen To Join Us! Shocked, In Fact!” Papyrus says. His eye sockets narrow. “…This Wouldn’t Happen To Be A Jape That You Are Concocting With Frisk, Is It? Human! I Have Told You Not To Succumb To My Brother’s Lazy Trickery! You Should Join Us In Training Just To Block Out His Tomfoolering Influence!”
Sans cuts in before he can get on a tangent—normally he has fun egging his brother on, but Frisk just might try pushing them all home if they dawdle too long, and funny as that would be, Sans doesn’t want to know what lengths Frisk would go to to get them all settled into a relative “safe” area.
“frisk just wanted to head home a bit early. too much fun out here, figured we’d ask who’s up for game night,” Sans says.
Frisk lurches and looks at him strangely, even though he’d pretty much just said what they had. Unless “too much fun” means something different to humans. Sans should remember to look that up some time after he stalks Frisk’s encounter with whatever’s out there.
It’s not stalking if you have parental consent, right? It’s, uh…temporary…guardianship. That promise he made to Tori all those years ago counts for that, right?
Welp. Too late to be quibbling over moralisms, anyway. Sans is in this deep, and it’s not like the kid is gonna let anyone else know what’s going on.
Papyrus hesitates, a bit thrown by the sudden plan change—they have a game night already scheduled for tomorrow, tonight was supposed to be relatively free so he could prepare a Meal of Epic Proportions for it—but Alphys is perceptive as Sans knows her to be.
After being placed on the ground, she’d gotten her bearings and read some part of Frisk’s frantic discomfort off of their posture. Their face has resumed a blank expression, but their free hand is clutching their locket, and they’re standing half-hidden behind Sans closer than usual.
Or, from the perspective to the point they’re avoiding, Sans is half-hidden behind them, with Papyrus and Undyne grouped behind them both.
While Papyrus is talking, Alphys makes a subtle gesture to Sans—??—and he shrugs one shoulder and tilts his head back—dunno, but i’m going along with it.
This is not the first nor the last time Alphys will be frustrated by Sans’s staunch refusal to get overtly involved in a puzzling situation, but she does trust him, and she knows him well enough to know he’ll be doing his own investigation later. She pipes up in support.
“I-I think th-” The weight of everyone’s attention makes her flinch, but not as bad as she was during the worst of the amalgamates mess. She steadies after a moment. “I think that that would be f-fun. We c-could bring over something to…”
Frisk’s grip on Sans’s sweater, still there, tightens a fraction—again on the word ‘fun.’ Their stick shifts against his back. Where they’re holding it it’s sort of like a weird seat belt, or some kind of really ineffective shield.
Frankly, if anything were to get through the human at his back, there’s not a lot that would make an effective shield, except maybe magic. Given that Frisk only has DETERMINATION, a stick is as good as anything else, Sans supposes.
Sans shifts slightly, not even enough to be adjusting his weight, and moves his hand a bit. nope. Hopefully Alphys’ll get his meaning—Frisk said they should go to Sans and Paps’ house, and they seem to want to keep everyone together. Whatever is suggested needs to fill both of those conditions.
Jeez, this is really straining his teamwork muscles. It’s been forever since he and Alphys have had to be this in sync. Last time they worked together on something sensitive was…uh…
“Actually, I think! We left off right before the series finale of Kissy Kissy Mer-mew! And even if it’s not! As good as the original! Th-that’s still at your house! So we can watch that! And try making popcorn again!” Alphys quickly course-corrects, and Frisk relaxes. Sans nods, and Alphys relaxes, too.
Oh, he is really not getting out of this without explaining something to her later. He owes her several favors for this one.
Well, maybe one less, with the popcorn suggestion. She has essentially sacrificed his kitchen.
“Good,” Frisk says, pushing at Sans again.
Undyne and Papyrus, watching this interplay like a particularly subtle ping-pong match, decide it’s not worth questioning. Except…
“Hey, isn’t you guys’ house that way…?” Undyne points back to their house, snowy roof clearly visible, a hundred or so feet from the Dreaded Copse of Evil Trees.
“don’t worry.” Sans winks. “i know a shortcut.”
Frisk jerks his shoulder back, and-
Sans takes a shortcut. Taking four other people with him is a bit more costly, magically speaking, than he usually prefers; but whatever’s intimidating Frisk will probably be disconcerted by the Void, right? Home field advantage.
He makes up the calculations for his shortcut on the fly, like he always does. It’s a short trip spatially, and he has a good grip on everyone’s magical signatures to pull them with him. It should be an easy trip. Something he’s so accustomed to at this point that it’s barely math, more intuition. He knows what the hit to his magical reserves will feel like, he’ll be a little hungry and a little sleepy; he knows where he’s going; he knows he’s going to dump Frisk in a snowbank because they could use a laugh.
It should be totally forgettable.
Instead, the Void bucks and writhes, around him and through him like a living thing, like drowning or being crushed or ripped apart into infinitude, and in that endless instant of travel, he grasps every atom, every scrap of energy that makes himself up, and desperately scrabbles for something to keep it together. What shape is he supposed to fit together in? What is he? He’s—
Magic. Magic, that’s what he’s doing. He’s using magic to travel, and he can use it to hold things, move things, can’t he? A stray photon attempts to escape form him and he grabs everything near him, everything he can feel, with blue magic, drags it to him—
Sans. He’s Sans. He’s Sans the skeleton, whole and in the corrupted void—it acts almost like a physical space, right now, flashing lights that he experiences as numbers and words, FUN on a little graph that spikes up and up. If he looked deeply into it, he’s certain that he would understand what went wrong, what happened, how it all works; the void could show him so many things he doesn’t understand.
Instead, he reaches out with his blue magic. someone, anyone.
Falling apart in the same way he was, he can feel his friends. He grasps for Papyrus first; he’s similarly resilient against the Void normally, but Sans isn’t sure “normally” applies right now.
It’s the work of an hour, the work of an instant to crush Papyrus’s magic back into a workable SOUL, and in that infinite moment he gathers his brother’s flaking dust and forces magic and light into it. Intense blue gravity fuses dissipating particles back into one being, and he reaches for Alphys. She’s the least DETERMINED, therefore, most vulnerable to harm.
His magic falters. It’s been a long time since it’s had this kind of workout. He grits his teeth and pushes harder. Time doesn’t work in the Void, so technically, he hasn’t spent any of that magic yet, right? He can use it simultaneously with himself. He’s only experiencing this in linear time because his mind is trying to make sense of what’s happening to him. As long as he doesn’t die or anything, he can reuse the same magic and the same moment. Right?
Sans is clumsier this time as he reaches blindly, messily towards Alphys’s relative direction. Her own magic should keep her alive as long as she’s not actively disappearing into the Void, right? He pushes her magic and dust into a general shape with a crack! and moves on.
Oh. That crack might have been him, actually. Ouch.
…so, turns out he does still have limited magic in nonlinear time.
Undyne isn’t falling apart so much as getting…gooey. Her DETERMINATION is trying to keep her together. Good, he just needs to get her out of the Void and hope it’s not too little, too late.
With effort, Sans searches for the other end of his shortcut, the inevitable finish to the calculation he’d based their path on, but…the Void is twisting, jerking around him—he can’t find it without looking through the Void, and once he looks, he’ll be lost.
Sans blindly tears a hole with a SOUL-deep tug that tell him he’s reached the end of his energy. Weakly, already falling back into physical reality, he turns back to find Frisk—
--who’s watching him, reaching with wide, wet eyes, as he and the others are saved, just a touch too far away to reach them.
Sans, out of magic entirely, reaches his physical hand back towards them, knowing already how futile it will be. Frisk’s mouth sets as they see something in his expression. He’s able to see an echo of their immediate future, how their hand will drop, how it will be taken up be an off-color afterimage of them, how both humans—human-shaped beings—will hold on to one another as they watch the tear in the Void close without them. Abandoned.
And then that future vanishes like a puff of smoke that someone put a bullet through, as someone else’s blue magic scoops Frisk up, sending them crashing into Sans and then both of them to Papyrus.
Sans’s brother is so cool.
Sans is able to see through his darkening vision that they’re falling through a dizzying expanse of gray and white, or at least that’s how it looks to him, before he passes out cold.
Paps can stick the landing for them.

Teddy Bear Sam
Note: Here’s some more fluff for everyone! Hope you all enjoy! Anyway, onto the fic!
Handplates belongs to: @zarla-s
Requested by: @randomstuff7739
Summary: While trying to keep a sleeping Gaster warm, Sam suddenly finds themselves trapped in a tight embrace with the unconscious scientist. Will they be able to escape their cuddly prison?
     It was another morning down in the True Lab and Subject 2 had just woken up. He yawned as he stretched his arms and tried to stand up to stretch as well, only to realize that he couldn’t move at all. Looking down, the skeleton saw the his brother has somehow trapped him in a hug while he slept. 2-P was rightfully annoyed at this. He tried to get Subject 1 to wake up and move.
    “BROTHER, WAKE UP AND LET ME GO. HE COULD COME BY HERE AT ANY MINUTE!”
    “zzzzzz...”
     But the little babybones just snored and continued his deep sleeping. Now Subject 2 was getting mad. He started calling out to 1-S, trying to get him to wake up and getting nothing but light snores in response. He began to loudly scold and rant at his snoozing brother, seemingly getting louder every second.
    “BROTHER! STOP BEING LAZY AND GET OFF OF ME!!”
     2-P screamed so loud that he startled Sam and Toby awake. Toby barked at the skeleton with annoyance before laying back down while Sam let out a sleepy yawn and ask Subject 2 if everything was alright.
    “NO, IT IS NOT ‘ALRIGHT’, HUMAN SAM. MY BROTHER IS BEING A LAZYBONES AS USUAL AND NOW I CAN’T MOVE!”
    ‘*You giggle at the worked-up skeleton before picking up 1-S, cuddling him against your chest and laying back down.’
     Sam closed their eyes, wanting to get a few more minutes of sleep. This caused 2-P to start scolding the Human as well, telling them that they’re being a bad influence on Subject 1. During his ranting, Gaster had came into the cell room and was standing in front of the beams with an annoyed expression on his face. He must’ve been working when Subject 2 started yelling out and came by to investigate.
    “2-P, what is all this unnecessary noise about? I could hear you all the way from my office.”
     That’s when Gaster noticed that Sam and 1-S were still asleep. Normally, he would allow the two of them to continue their slumber, but since Subject 2 was already awake, he might as well get the day started and have everyone else wake up too.
    “Sam, you and Subject 1 need to wake up now...”
    “*You loudly groan as you tell Gaster that you don’t want to get up right now.”
    “...If you’re not up within the next minute, Sam, you will not be getting any marshmallows and-”
     He didn’t need to say anymore as the Human was already up and heading towards the kitchen for breakfast with the brothers and Toby following not too far behind. The scientist just shook his head in exasperation before following as well.
~~~~~~
     After breakfast, Sam and the brothers went back into the cell room to play. Meanwhile, Gaster sat at a nearby table working on some work reports. In the game they were playing, Sam would pick up one of the brothers and then gently toss him into the air while the skeleton squealed in pure delight. Gaster would sometimes look up from his work to remind the Human to be careful and not be too rough with the babybones. The brothers loved the game though, constantly asking for Sam to throw them higher. Everyone had fun playing the Human’s game.
     After a few rounds of the game, Gaster suddenly got up from the table and began gathering up his work papers.
    “I’ll be in my office if you need me for anything, Sam.”
    ‘*You give him a nod in response before going back to tossing 1-S into the air...’
     Gaster then left the room without another word, leaving the Human and the brothers to their game.
(Later)
     Sam walked down the hallway towards their soulmate’s work room, a steaming cup of black coffee and a bag of mallows in their hands. Subjects 1 and 2 had tired themselves out playing and fell asleep. After making sure the two were sleeping comfortably, the Human made some coffee and grabbed some snacks before setting out to check on Gaster. Entering the office, Sam started to greet him, only realize that the skeleton had passed out onto his couch and was currently in deep sleep. Probably due to overworking as usual. Sam smiled at the sight though, placing the drink and snack down and grabbing a nearby blanket before walking over to him.
    ‘*You try to drape the soft blanket over Gaster...only for him to suddenly grab and pull you into his arms...’
     Sam suddenly found themselves trapped in the scientist’s embrace and it seemed like he wasn’t going to release them anytime soon. Gaster pressed them into his chest as he cuddled them in his sleep. As much as Sam loved cuddling with their soulmate, they still had babybones and a dog to look after so they were going to have to break free one way or another.
    ‘*You find a grip on Gaster’s arm and try to pull it away from...but you end up having no luck with that.’
     Gaster’s grip was way too strong for them to break free from, but the Human continued to fight against it until exhaustion. The sleeping skeleton’s only response to the failed attempt was to hold Sam closer to him and nuzzle into their hair. Sam was too tired to do anymore so they just gave up and fell asleep in Gaster’s arms. Hopefully the brothers won’t get into too much trouble while they’re in Dreamland.
~~~~~~
     Gaster woke up sometime later feeling a small weight on his chest. He blinked away his blurriness and looked down. Gaster saw the Human fast asleep on top of him. They looked peaceful sure, but the scientist still needed to get back to work. Gaster gripped Sam’s shoulder and gently shook them a little.
    “Sam, I need to finish up those reports so you need to move.”
    “*Zzzzzzz...”
     The Human was too far gone however so Gaster instead tried pulling them off of him. That didn’t seem to work either as Sam just cuddled deeper into him. He then began to try calling out their name in order to wake them up. Still no response. Finally, Gaster just decided to get his work done while carrying Sam. Finding his balance, the skeleton managed to stand up from the couch, cradling the Human in his arms as he did so. He then used his magic to move Sam onto his back, making sure they weren’t going to fall off. Sam just snuggled into the crook of his neck though. Letting out a sigh, Gaster walked out of the office to go check on the brothers, but not before making one final comment.
    “Who knew humans could be so clingy?”
Note: Yeah, Sam’s the clingy one Gaster... I hope you all enjoyed reading this fic! It was a lot fun to write it. Now, I’ll be working on the upcoming Halloween special so I hope everyone is excited for that! Thank you so much for reading! I love all of you! Stay tuned for more.

The Best Revenge: Ch 2
An Undertale Fanfiction
Chapters: 1 | 2 |  / AO3 / FF.NET / Characters: Sans, Grillby, Papyrus, Royal Doggies, Gaster, Undyne, Alphys, OCs Setting: Baby Blaster AU **Fic Contains: **Mentions of past child / medical abuse. Hurt / Comfort. Kids going through therapy. Healing. Dadby. Flashbacks to bad things. **Synopsis: **It’s been almost a full year since little Sans and Papyrus were rescued from W. D. Gaster. Scarred from their experiences, both children will need extra care to come to terms with what happened to them. Now as their father, Grillby needs to guide them through both their recovery and life outside the laboratories. Life is full of ups and downs, but Grillby will try his best. After all, they say that living well is the best revenge. Part two of the TRUST trilogy.
--------------------
001-S paced around their cage with careful, practiced steps. It was only a few cycles of light since they were able to move. Walking was a challenge and they didn’t receive help from the strange creatures in white. All they got from them was cold indifference, no matter how much they squeaked at them. They didn’t seem to hate them: they just had nothing to feel at all for them at all.
It was confusing, but then again, everything was. They were brand-new, after all.
They didn’t know how many cycles of dark and light has happened since they first awoke. They were in a clear place that was hard when he drifted close enough to touch it. It had all been strange. Blurry faces would press up against the clear place to look at them, but at least they were warm.
Until they took him out of the warm place and into the cold. The first sensation they ever felt was pain as something sharp and hot on their leg bit down. They had cried out but nobody answered. They couldn’t understand what the white creatures were saying and didn’t understand what they were doing.
The white creatures just didn’t care...and they felt it in their young soul. It was perhaps the thing that frightened them the most.
That was many light times ago. They had grown a little bigger and there hadn’t been a pain like the bite on his leg since. What a strange bite it was, all lines made by teeth they couldn’t even see.
They stopped pacing, tired for the moment, and laid down on the cold steel.
They had heard the creatures in white say something about an ‘ex-pera-ment’. They figured he’d find out what that was soon enough.
He sighed and closed his eyes.
.
.
.
Sans bolted upward with a gasp, clunking the top of his skull against something hard and wooden. Fingers gripped the carpet and blankets under him as he reeled from the sudden pain.
What?
Where?
He opened his eyes, expecting to see the bars of a cage. He expected to feel steel. He expected pain and sensations of cold.
But what he actually saw was half the world in darkness, and the other half showing carpet and fairy lights. The carpet was soft, and he was warm in a thick sweater and fluffy blanket.
He took a moment to think and realized he was home.
Not a cage. Not the labs. Home.
He calmed down at that, lying back down in his position under the bed to rub his cranium. Ow. His thump had knocked some pieces of candy and packaged granola bars stashed away in the support beams down. He remembered. This was where packaged food was stored, ‘just in case’. Dad had no problem with that, as long as what was opened got eaten so the crumbs wouldn’t get everywhere.
He thought back to what happened before he fell asleep to chase away the lingering visions of steel and harsh lights. He was playing downstairs with his brother and father. Papyrus ran him around as he seemed to have limitless energy. Then he got tired, and went upstairs to nap.
He couldn’t figure out how long he had been asleep; he’d been sleeping quite a lot lately.
But wait, where was Papyrus?
A cold start jolted down his spine in panic. He may have been able to wake up from dreams of his past, but the anxiety of his brother being elsewhere was one he had no defense against. He gasped and shot out from under the bed, faster than he usually moved, and nearly tumbled down the stairs in his haste to find his brother.
“pap? PAP?”
He tripped and took a small tumble, landing against the legs of his adoptive father. Thankfully, they were soft legs, as they didn’t have bones, just pure fire. Sans grunted, stuck upside down and wedged in between his father’s legs and the carpeted stair-step.
“Sans? Are you okay?”
Grillby’s voice was full of worry, and it was worrisome to see a distressed child nearly throw themselves down the stairs in order to get to the bottom faster.
“where’s pap?” Sans ignored the question like usual. He rarely, if ever, focused on himself at any given time.
“In the living room, just like he was an hour ago.” Grillby reached down and grasped Sans under his arms, lifting him up and setting the skeleton back on his feet. He began to check for any cuts or bruises. “I was just coming to wake you.”
“is he okay?” Sans continued as Grillby tucked him into his arms, turning to carry him away from the stairs.
“Of course he is. Why do you think he would not be?”
Sans didn’t have an answer to that. He just felt like he had to know. He didn’t know how to put his feelings into proper words, so he stayed silent as he was carried into the living room and set down on the floor.
Sans was instantly relieved to see that, indeed, Papyrus was just fine. He was having a blast with some rainbow-colored stacking cups, humming to himself as toddlers tend to do. He was also surrounded by a mess of other toys. Clearly, Papyrus was not about to run out of things to do.
“HI!” The little skeleton greeted the other with a large smile...before stuffing a cup into his jaws to chew on it.
“See? He is fine. I’m keeping an eye on him, after all.” Grillby did his best to reassure the elder skeleton.
Sans just nodded and watched his brother play for a moment. For a moment, he could almost see the casts and bandages on his tiny brother’s limbs as he toddled about. He had remembered how weak he would feel in the cage, unable to stop anyone from taking little P-2...Papyrus...away to do terrible things to him. Sans rubbed the rough semi-healed etched marks on his left radius. Sometimes it was hard to stop thinking of the times before. It was hard to truly feel safe.
Warmth touched his side as his adoptive father took a seat next to him, so they could watch the youngest play together. Sans didn’t say it, but he did feel better immediately from the close contact.
“It won’t be long until Papyrus can speak full sentences.” Grillby remarked.
“he’s smart.” It was an easy reply to that.
“So are you.” Sans could hear the smile on the older monster’s voice. Sans had nothing to say in reply.
Grillby continued after a moment of silence. “You know. I’m always here if you want to talk.”
“...talk about what?” Sans honestly didn’t quite understand what Grillby was saying. Sure, Sans didn’t say all that much, but he did make sure to tell his father if he wanted more to eat or telling Papyrus that he was good. He also made sure to tell everyone that he loved him. To him, it was plenty of talking, and all he really needed.
“Your feelings. Dreams. Whatever you like, I’m hear to listen.”
Sans thought for a moment. Here were things in the edges of his mind that he had questions for. But he couldn’t find the right words, at least for now, on how to express them.
“ok.” Sans finally said with a yawn.
They sat again in comfortable silence. There wasn’t much that could be said, but there was plenty to be felt. Right now Sans felt content and safe, and that was good enough for him. He liked the quiet. He liked how softly his father spoke. It was warm and gentle, so completely different from a life of cold and violence. Sans leaned on his father’s side, soothed enough that he felt like he could take another nap, right here.
That was, until he noticed something odd.
In the corner of the room, there seemed to be a patch of color missing. The yellow wall was faded to a light gray. But when he blinked, it was yellow again.
He shook his head. He must be tired. Seeing with one eye was more taxing than having two—all the more reason to get some shut-eye. He settled down to rest his head on the warmest and softest lap ever. Grillby smoothed his head gently with a hand of fire and Sans closed his eyes.
Once again, he was asleep, but this time, there weren’t any nightmares.
  --------------------
How interesting...
For a moment, Gaster could swear that 001-S had saw him. The creature looked right at him, but then quickly lost interest to be useless and lazy again. He had been trying to get noticed, after all.
He would need further testing.
He, for a moment, wondered if the chip he had implanted in 001-S was still active. He wasn’t aware enough to know the full extent of damage that 001-S sustained in the CORE. When he had somehow dragged himself back into reality, 001-S was already on the path of healing.
There must be something he could do.
He was in a place that defied all laws of reality and nature, a place worse than hell. He had no help, no codex or anything to help him figure out this place. He was on his own, with just the scientific method and time on his hands.
There must be some connection between him and his creations that kept him tied to this world.
He had used parts of his own matter to create the beasts. Skeleton monsters were incredibly rare, yet powerful. There were none stronger than himself; the ones that weren’t strong either died in the war or fell down years ago. It made sense to use his magical makeup as a template.
It was proven that monster souls, unlike humans, couldn’t persist after death. But he was surely dead, and still here. Maybe he still existed in the living world, as unlikely as that was. Maybe he could only truly ‘die’ once they both did.
Gaster’s mind spun as he considered the implications. He could find a way to end his creations, but there could be multiple outcomes.
One. His creations died, and he died along with them, no longer bound to them or this void. There would just be nothing, no more torment of being bound to his killer. It might be the most favorable outcome, to be honest.
Two. Nothing happens. They die, but he still lives. Still in the same situation as before, but this time, with nothing interesting to do. At least now he could still somehow apply the scientific method and get something useful out of this madness, something to keep his mind sharp. He would rather not stay trapped here if he could help it.
Three. His creations die, and end up with him here, in the void. An interesting predicament, but he was sure his creations would still obey him...after a bit of re-education of course. However, there would be nothing to do with them...at least, not without his tools. They’d just be as useless to him here as they were out there.
Four. They die, and somehow, he ends up back in reality. Almost like a trade, in a sense. He couldn’t theorize how such a thing could work, but then again this void defied all senses of logic and nature.
He hummed to himself, watching the fire monster interact with the beasts.
He needed more data before he decided just what to do.
It wasn’t like he was leaving them anytime soon anyway.
 --------------------
Snow crunched under boots on the undisturbed ground of the forest. Sans, Papyrus, and Undyne were outside again in the cold, marching off into the thick woods. Sans held Papyrus' hand in one glove, and a basket in another. They at least had a picnic basket with them with lunch that their father had packed for them all. It didn’t seem like Undyne was going to stop to eat any time soon as she ducked under the heavy boughs of pine trees.
“where are we going again?” Sans sighed, not quite in the mood to go traveling all over the place. When Undyne showed up at their door asking them to come out to play, she mentioned she wanted to take them somewhere. She had made sure to whisper that last part out of earshot of their father, which gave everything an air of mystery. Papyrus was instantly excited about an adventure, and wherever Pap went, Sans went.
“You’ll know when you see it!” Undyne was in the front, breaking a path through the snow. Sans was at least grateful she was doing that; breaking snow was hard. Undyne’s convenient habit let him walk in her footprints and travel easier.
“so far all I have seen are pine cones.”
“Trust me, it's a lot cooler than pine cones!”
“PINE KONES.” Papyrus happily chirped. He had a pine cone in one of his hands that he decided to keep. It smelled nice and interesting, so of course he had to have it.
“yeh pap, pine cones.” The elder brother made sure to sound out the word for the younger brother.
“PINE!”
“yep, you got it bro.”
Undyne snorted and continued to lead on. Together they crossed a bridge over a very steep canyon. Both boys needed some convincing to get across, but they could appreciate the view once they were safely on the other side. A whole underground valley stretched out before them. A vast ocean of snow was flecked by pockets of evergreen trees. A few houses in the dark had their lights on, which shone like jewels from far away. A river flowed through it all, streaming down into Snowdin. It was beautiful.
And then, they reached a wall.
A wall with an elegantly carved door. Sans recognized the symbol etched into the door, as he had seen it here and there. Usually King Asgore had it on him somewhere when he would come to visit. That was when he had to be ‘fancy’ and ‘official’, things that Sans had no clue about. Some of the guards had it on their armor. He never asked for the official name, but he did recognize it.
“that’s weird.” Sans looked up at the huge door, dwarfing all three kids in sheer size and height.
“I know right? I found this yesterday when I was exploring,” Undyne sounded proud of herself. “I had no idea this was here! This has got to be one of the end points of the Underground.”
“but why is there a door there?” Sans hesitantly reached up to touch it. The door was cold, and was filmy with grime and ice flakes. Clearly, it hadn’t been opened in a long time—there wasn’t even a knob or handle to open it.
“I dunno, but I tried to open it.” Undyne crowded besides the skeleton to examine the door further. “I looked all around for a secret switch or something, but found nothing.”
“maybe you need a password? like in the movies?”
Papyrus waddled to the door and patted it. “OPEN. PLEESE?”
The door remained firmly shut.
“oh well, it was a good try pap.” Sans patted his little brother’s head. “i don't think it’ll be that simple.”
“I haven’t tried... maybe you need magic to open it?” Undyne said thoughtfully. She then stood back and grunted as she concentrated hard, and with a little shimmer, a little blue spear was clutched In her hand. It wasn’t much bigger than a stick, but when it came to making something with magic, Undyne was way ahead of both boys.
She poked the door with the magical spear a few times. When nothing happened she dispelled it with a sizzle. “Darn.”
“maybe it wasn’t meant to open, undyne.”
Undyne growled and bared her sharp teeth. “But I wanna know what’s behind it! It could be anything! Something cool, maybe!” Her voice, however, was tinged with a bit of concealed worry.
Sans just shrugged and watched Papyrus tap the door with his pinecone.
There was a moment of silence, before Undyne turned to look at Sans, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “Hey...Sans...”
“yeah?” Sans wasn’t too sure if he liked that look.
“Can you turn into your dog thing and blast it open?”
“...no.”
Undyne sighed in frustration. “Ugggh why not? You can spit crazy powerful laser beams out of your mouth! It’s bound to take down this door!”
“because i don’t feel like it.” It was true: Sans just didn’t feel up to it. It was all he had to even walk all the way out here. Just imagining powering up a blast seemed like it would take more out of him then they would gain.
“That’s so lame Sans! It wouldn’t even take a lot of blasting! Just one?”
“no.” Sans furrowed his brow at his friend. “and before you ask, papyrus can’t either. he’s too little.”
Undyne groaned and gripped her hair. “Dude, seriously. You can do it. Dad said that you blew up a lot of stuff before! It would be easy.”
Yes, It had been easy. It was also easy to kill another monster. Sans’ eyes went blank as he thought about it. He was made to destroy. The last thing he wanted was to do so unless it was really needed. He wasn’t what he was made to be, he was different. His Dad said so.
“easy for you. but not for me.” Sans bent down to scoop up his brother, feeling tired all of a sudden. “come on, let's forget about the door for now.”
“But don’t you wanna know what's on the other side?”
Sans shook his head, tucking his brother up on his shoulder. “nah. it might be locked up for a reason, ya know? better to leave it alone.”
Undyne huffed and put her hands on her hips. “From what Alphys told me, if she didn’t break that weird lock in the lab, you guys wouldn’t have gotten out. I don’t....” She trailed off a moment, and rubbed her arm in thought.
That made Sans freeze in his steps. He wondered for a moment if Undyne was trying to manipulate him, but he couldn’t feel any malice from her. She was their friend, and she seemed to have gotten it in her head now that there could be something awful behind every locked door. Something that could be hurt and tormented children. After all, from what she had heard from her dads, there was more than just himself and his brother in that terrible place.
An inkling of doubt began to swirl in his head. Yes, there was a big, mysterious door out in the end of the underground. The scientists that made him were either in jail, or dead. That didn’t mean there couldn’t be more scientists in another secret place. Or, just more labs hidden around. Labs that could have more things like him.
“...you’re right.” Sans conceded and turned around. He’ll hold out Papyrus. “here, take him and i’ll see what I can do.”
He expected Undyne to whoop and holler at that, but surprisingly, she took Papyrus quietly and nodded. His little brother settled nicely in her arms and proceeded to start drooling all over them.
Sans shook himself out to get out some kinks in his bones, before they began to change and snap into new configurations. It didn’t take long for Sans to be on all fours again, shaking himself out again like his canine friends. He sneezed. The only bad thing about this form was that wayward snowflakes would find their way into his nose, which was very uncomfortable.
“You ready?” Undyne backed up with Papyrus to a safe distance.
Sans huffed, and padded up to the door to smell it. His nose worked a lot better like this, and he took his time touching his snout to the stone door and smelling deeply. A tickle of strong, but old magic made him back up a little. There wasn’t any smells of any other monsters around or even under the snow. He examined the door further, and scratched it a little with his claws. They left no mark on the stone. If anyone could figure out how to get this puzzle of a door open, it would probably be Papyrus. A much older Papyrus, and they didn’t have time to wait years for him to stop eating jigsaw puzzle pieces.
Sans backed up by about a meter, locking his limbs up and straightening out his tail behind him. Magic in his throat began to hum and glow a bright blue as his jaws split, rising in pitch before finally -
KSSSK!
The hot beam directly hit the door, sizzling and blinding in brightness. He poured on the magic he could spare for a good five seconds before he had to stop, coughing out steam and leftover magic.
When the brightness and haze of magic cleared, the snow was completely melted around them.
But the door didn’t even have a scorch mark on it.
Sans sat down on his haunches, surprised. Their magic beams were pretty dangerous and could cause a lot of damage, but he didn’t even leave a mark on the door.
Undyne started. “...huh? It didn’t work?”
Sans shifted back so he could talk, still sitting. “doesn’t seem like it.”
“Darn!” Undyne kicked at the bare dirt. “I was sure it would work!”
Sans wearily got to his feet and brushed off his pants. “sorry.”
“Nah, don’t be sorry Sans. I guess this just means we have to tell someone. My dad maybe? Or maybe yours? No offense Sans, but your dad is old. He might know about it.”
“Maybe…” Sans felt...wobbly. A sense of fatigue started to weigh him down. Just moving his legs was taking a lot of effort. “...maybe…”
“Sans?” Undyne sounded concerned and began to walk over.
Sans continued to wobble, his eye lights dimming in his sockets. He wanted to sleep so much. He couldn’t stop his eyes from closing before he lost all mobility. Unable to balance, he felt himself fall, and hit the dirt. The last thing he heard before everything went dark and silent was Undyne and Papyrus screaming.
He could just...take a quick nap. One quick nap. That’s all…
He fell deeply asleep, and heard and thought no longer.
 .
.
.
.
“Sans? Can you hear me?” Grillby knelt next to the children’s bunk bed, holding the small skeletal hand that belonged to his eldest son. Sans was tucked into bed along with his brother. No matter how many times Papyrus yelled at his brother, he still wouldn’t wake up. He knew something was wrong when a tearful Undyne nearly kicked down the front door, carrying both skeletons in her arms. Sans was deeply unconscious and between Undyne and Papyrus screaming, he had no idea what had happened.
The only thing he thought to do was call Undyne’s parents to the house and somehow handle the situation. The only thing that kept him from wanting to tear the underground apart was Undyne’s tearful ‘He fell asleep and won’t wake up’ explanation. So, nobody had hurt him. But something was still very wrong. He had a suspicion that something wasn’t right with how much Sans was sleeping and how much energy he lacked. He assumed he would perk up after several months of care, but he didn’t. He of course, was stronger and much more stable, but one could sense the fatigue that had settled into the little skeleton’s soul and colored all his actions.
It didn’t take long for Gnash and Frank to arrive. Gnash saw to his daughter, hugging and rubbing her back as she cried into his shoulder. Frank immediately got to work on Sans, working around Papyrus who refused to leave his brother.
Grillby had no idea that Frank knew that many diagnostic spells. It seemed like Frank wasn’t pulling any punches here, and was worried just like everyone else.
So here Grillby was, holding that tiny little hand in his own, hoping that the warmth of his fire could be felt. Maybe it would comfort the skeleton in his unconscious world. He didn’t seem to be dreaming. He simply laid there like a broken toy.
“Let him wake up on his own, Grillby. All you can do is wait.” Frank sighed and put away some of his tools.
“Please tell me what’s wrong with my son.” Grillby felt his soul clench with those words. He was beyond worried. He was scared.
“I can’t tell you what just yet, I have to do more tests…” Frank sighed and looked at the sleeping child. “We’ll have to take him to New Home Hospital. I don’t have the tools here for a proper scan.”
“He is not going to like that.” Grillby shifted a little to be more comfortable on the floor. “Are you sure it is necessary?”
“I know what you mean, old friend. I know it’s going to be incredibly stressful for him, but it’s not like we can bring an entire hospital here.” Frank sounded sympathetic. “Eventually he’s going to have to learn how to cope with medical environments, and he’s not going to be alone for all of it.”
“I know...but still…” Grillby exhaled a small plume of smoke, frustrated with the situation.
Gnash poked his head in through the open doorway. “Hello, how is he, dear?”
Frank shook his head at his husband. “He’s stable. He isn’t falling down. He just...won’t wake up. He seems to be deeply in sleep more than anything else. We’ll have to do more tests to find out why.”
“Damn...that sucks.” Gnash frowned. “Anyway, I got what happened from Undyne. Apparently, they were trying to break down a door in the woods, somewhere at the mountain border. He blasted it, but then collapsed soon after.”
“What door in the woods?” Frank rubbed behind his gills. “And why in the hell were they trying to break it down?”
“Undyne was worried there might be another...you know…” Gnash tilted his head at the skeletons in the bed. “Another situation like theirs. She convinced Sans to help her. Undyne is going to take me to the spot later.”
“How is she?” Grillby asked. “She was very upset when she arrived with the boys.”
“She’s feelin’ a little better. Still shaken but now she knows she didn’t accidentally kill her friend or anything. She’s downstairs with some hot cocoa.”
Grillby shook his head. What a terrible, frightening thing for a small child to experience. Not to mention, her thinking that there are more cases like Sans and Papyrus out there. “Gnash, did you find any more labs?”
“We did. But they were either devoted to completely different projects or neglected entirely. We combed those places top to bottom but didn’t see anything relating to the kids in there.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes Grillz, we’re sure. There isn’t going to be more kids in trouble like that. Still, I think it's time to have Undyne see a counselor about this.”
Grillby nodded to that. He didn’t know if Alphys was seeing one too, but he knew for sure his boys needed one. He just wasn’t sure how to go about it. They weren’t comfortable with strangers at all, and certainly not enough to tell their darkest and most painful memories.
Frank finished packing up his bag. “I’ll go ahead and get those tests ready. I’ll need you to explain what’s going to happen, try to get the kids comfortable, and explain that I’m just going to see what’s wrong and nothing else. I don’t want to scare them anymore than you do.”
“You can’t handle them with kid gloves forever though.” Gnash tilted his head to his husband. “They’re tough. It’s one thing to be careful, but they aren’t fragile anymore Grillby. You have to let them get scared once in a while. It's how they learn how to deal with things.”
“Within reason.” Frank replied.
“I understand...if you find a good therapist...please let me know.” Grillby bowed his head in thanks.
“I will. Please call if anything serious happens, okay? I think Sans will wake up eventually, but if he’s in pain or doesn’t wake up in 24 hours, call me.”
“I promise.”
“Good.” Frank looked at his husband and nodded to the door. Taking the hint, Gnash walked downstairs, and can be heard talking to Undyne a moment later. With one last goodbye, Frank waddled out of the room, leaving the father and children some privacy.
Grillby had yet to get up from the floor where he was holding Sans’ hand. Papyrus seemed fine with just snuggling with his brother under the cover. Despite the noise and presence of other people in the room, Papyrus had drifted off and snuggled under his older brother’s chin.
He was reluctant to let go for now, but he had to make food in case either of them woke up. He tucked the little hand back under the covers and gave the best equivalent of a ‘smooch’ as he could to the top of each of their skulls. He had no lips really, but his flames were warm and gentle, surely something comforting. He stood, and took one last look back, his eyes scanning for anything amiss. When everything looked fine, he ducked out of the room, turning on the nightlight and shutting the door. He left it open a little, so the hallway light could filter in and hopefully chase away any nightmares.
The clack of pans and pots echoed from downstairs, but for the boys, they only had silence.
Moments past where the only movement in the room was the drifting of household dust particles highlighted in the light of the nightlight.
For a moment, the corner of the room began to drain of color, and a soft, crackling noise, like static, began to hiss in the air. A glitchy black spot appeared, fragmented and thin. It only lasted for mere moments before color snapped back into existence. Silence was once again heavy in the room, interrupted by the faint sounds of cooking from downstairs.
All that was left was a tiny, black spot on the floor.

Deltarune Theory - The Red SOUL
It’s pretty clear that, in Deltarune, the person we are “playing” as is not Kris directly, but the red SOUL that is controlling them.
After all, when Kris tosses the SOUL out of their body, we can still control it.
So then, the question is... Who IS the red SOUL?
In this post, I’ll go over several theories, their main points, and evidence for them and against them.
It’s not Kris’ SOUL.
With the information we have, it’s nearly impossible for this SOUL to belong to Kris.
First of all, in the Dark World, Kris’ description describes them as follows:
Tumblr media
“Body contains a human SOUL.” Not “THEIR” human SOUL, “A” human SOUL. That’s just about the most suspicious-sounding way you could possibly word that.
Second, the first time we go to save the game, a save file titled “Kris” is overwritten by one with the chosen name of the “creator”.
Tumblr media
And, throughout the epilogue, everyone keeps pointing out how strange they’re acting, how they aren’t like themself...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re acting unlike themself because they aren’t themself - they’re being controlled by someone else.
... Someone who knows some things Kris doesn’t.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Because of the above two, I’m going to assume that all of the dialogue choices come from the red SOUL.)
The SOUL also seems a little, um, opinionated:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And they apparently don’t know who Rudy is, when Kris definitely does.
Tumblr media
So... who could they be?
Theory 1: The Player (“Player Theory”)
This is probably the most popular theory going around right now. In this theory, the red SOUL represents us, the “player”, as an actual in-game entity.
This is an understandable interpretation, as Undertale is known to be very meta at times. It’s not totally unthinkable that ‘we’ exist as an actual force in-universe.
Evidence against Player Theory
There’s a significant amount of evidence that the red SOUL has their own personality and is their own person, such as:
Tumblr media
They have their own opinions on Mew Mew 2.
Tumblr media
They can’t play the piano. I’d imagine a lot of players can, so it’s strange to put this here if they’re meant to be the player. It would be odd to exclude a significant amount of the player base (including Toby himself) for, um, literally no reason.
Support for Player Theory
According to Deltarune’s official website, Deltarune is a game “intended for people who have completed UNDERTALE.” Therefore, the “player” is supposed to know everything that happens in Undertale.
Therefore, these interactions make sense:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... Because the player knows who Sans is, and they know that Alphys and Undyne were dating in Undertale.
...However, there is someone else who knows all the same things about the Undertale universe that the player does.
Theory 2: Frisk
From Undertale, we know that Frisk has a red SOUL. This theory says that the red SOUL present in Deltarune is also the very same Frisk from the Undertale universe.
Evidence against Frisk Theory
Toby has said this about Deltarune in relation to Undertale:
Tumblr media
...so, that shoots a bit of a hole in this... but. Hear me out.
[EDIT]
On February 14th 2019, a FAQ section was added to the official Deltarune website. One of the questions is:
Tumblr media
Basically confirming that there are “connections” between the Undertale and Deltarune universes.
So... I guess there isn’t any evidence against this theory, now.
[END EDIT]
Support for Frisk Theory
Like the “player”, Frisk knows everything that happened in Undertale. They’re friends with Sans, so they would be excited to see him. They know Alphys and Undyne are dating, so they would be eager to ask Undyne about her girlfriend. And they don’t know who Rudy is.
And, of course... there’s the intro sequence.
Gaster prompts us to create a “vessel” to hold our SOUL...
Tumblr media
A vessel that just so happens to always have exactly two stripes on their shirt.
However, the person that interrupts the intro - Chara, if you remember my post about it - doesn’t seem very happy about this whole vessel thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... Which would make sense if the red SOUL is actually Frisk. Frisk is Chara’s friend, Chara wouldn’t let Gaster suddenly try to turn them into a whole different person. So... What if Chara was actually trying to say “Your name is Frisk”, but was cut off?
After all, in Undertale, there’s a scene that this is likely meant to be a parallel to...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... And, of course, after beating the game, we know the speaker of this line is Asriel, and he was saying, well, “My name is Asriel”.
Speaking of Chara... the voice of the narration in Deltarune is suspiciously similar to Undertale’s, and at some points, seems to almost intentionally call back to Undertale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(In case you’re not convinced by the above one - it matches word-for-word in the official Japanese translations, as well.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Which would make sense if, not only are we playing as Frisk once again...
Tumblr media
...But Chara is the narrator once again, as well.
Of course, Frisk themselves could just as easily be the narrator. It’s difficult to tell at this point. I’m personally leaning towards Chara, though.
Also, it’s probably just a bizarre joke, but this line would make a lot more sense if the person controlling Kris was actually a child:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My favorite thing about this theory is that if it is true, Toby would have tricked us into thinking Frisk is actually an in-game representation of the player not once, but twice.
Theory 3: Chara and Asriel’s Combined SOUL
This theory proposes that the SOUL is a combined human-monster soul - specifically, Chara and Asriel’s.
It’s said in Undertale that Asriel absorbed Chara’s SOUL, and then died. However, it’s never explicitly stated that the SOUL shattered. We know that a human SOUL can persist after death presumably indefinitely if preserved properly, and a boss monster SOUL can survive outside the body for a few seconds... But we don’t know how long a combined human-monster SOUL could last outside its body.
Evidence against Combined SOUL Theory
There’s no evidence in the game that the SOUL belongs to two people. In Undertale, Asriel states that when he and Chara were sharing a SOUL, control was split between them, and they were both actively fighting for control over their body.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There isn’t any instance of any sort of “internal argument” within the SOUL. Unless you interpret the differing dialogue choices as such, but even so, you’d think there’d be more of a hint that there’s actually two people fighting for control. But who knows, maybe it’ll only become more obvious in later chapters...?
Support for Combined SOUL Theory
The red SOUL is... odd. And I don’t mean their personality, I mean the SOUL itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(screenshot and gif from this post, which is what inspired this theory!)
When Kris removes the SOUL from their body... It glows red and white. White, of course, is the color of a monster SOUL.
While it could just be a visual effect... It’s at least one more thing to be suspicious about.
And, like I touched on before, we never know what exactly happened to Chara and Asriel’s combined SOUL. Some people think it could even be the red heart in this machine in Undertale’s True Lab:
Tumblr media
... and, with this theory... perhaps that machine might be somehow connected to the Deltarune universe.
Theory 4: Suzy
No, not Susie, Suzy! The one from Undertale. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, read this post.
This is my personal favorite theory, even though it’s quite unlikely. The premise of this theory is that Suzy is actually a human, and the red SOUL belongs to her.
Of course, a lot of people think “Suzy” is simply the Undertale universe version of “Susie”. That’s fair, and that theory certainly fits in with “fast approaching”. But I’m going to assume they’re completely different people for the sake of this theory. (Plus, why would Susie be the only character with a different name from their Undertale counterpart..?)
Evidence against Suzy Theory
This theory doesn’t have an explanation as to why the red SOUL knows about Alphys and Undyne’s relationship. (If you can come up with one, please tell me.) I mean, even though she exists in the Undertale universe, they only get together at the very end, and Suzy almost certainly wasn’t there. But who knows. Maybe she’s been shipping them the whole time. /s
Also, as much as I love the concept, it is quite unlikely that Suzy is a human. I do have a couple of explanations for it as you’ll see below, but I will admit that it’s still kind of a stretch. Still, what’s theory-making without a little fun?
Support for Suzy Theory
No matter whether or not Suzy ends up being the red SOUL, or even a human, she has to be in the full version of Deltarune. And, considering what we know... It’s not a stretch at all to think she might be in the very first chapter.
Tumblr media
“Don’t Forget.” The title of the main theme of Deltarune is a phrase that is specifically associated with Suzy. In Undertale, you can only see the “don’t forget” note in Sans’ lab after speaking with Clamgirl and, consequently, learning about the existence of “Suzy”. Therefore, the phrase “don’t forget” is intrinsically linked to her.
This note also gives us another hint about who Suzy is: She knows Sans.
Tumblr media
... Hm.
And, of course, her knowing Sans in combination with the fact that you only learn about her when you have certain “fun” values... it’s likely she knows Gaster, or at least of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, I think you see where I’m going with this...
Now, for the “Suzy is a human” part. I’ve actually had this theory since before Deltarune, but I never made a post about it or anything.
In Undertale’s No Mercy route, Sans says something quite... interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This line of dialogue implies that Sans knows or knew someone with Determination. A lot of people theorize that this line is referring to Gaster, who may have injected himself with Determination, which is a valid theory... However, I think Sans knew a human. Specifically, a human girl named Suzy.
Sans also knows a lot about concepts such as “LOVE” and “EXP”, and has secret passwords for “time travelers”. This implies that not only did he know someone with Determination, but likely with someone with the ability to “saving”, “loading”, and “resetting”... and, combined with what he talks about in his fight about “knowing our type”... it’s likely this person did a “no mercy run” in the past, or at least killed a significant amount of people.
Wait. If Suzy is a human, and she’s still alive in Undertale... How does she manage to survive in a world of monsters who need just one more human SOUL to break the barrier?
Well.
I have a few theories...
Sub-theory 1: LOVE
I mentioned before that if Suzy is a human, it’s possible, even likely, she has high LOVE.
And, well..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently, once you reach 20 LOVE, you become completely unrecognizable as a human being. Even to the king of all monsters, who would otherwise even compare Frisk to his own dead human child.
Sub-theory 2: “Goner” form
Clamgirl’s “fast approaching” line shows us that, apparently, some people can switch between their “normal” forms and their “goner” (grey) forms at will.
If a human had this ability... perhaps their SOUL would also turn grey? Then it would appear more like a monster SOUL than a human one. Sure, it would still be upside-down, but it’s an interesting thing to think about.
Speaking of “goner” forms...
Tumblr media
In the files, Deltarune’s vessel creation sequence is called “GONERMAKER”.
Sub-theory 3: She’s not fully human
Remember earlier how I mentioned how the red SOUL glows red and white in the ending sequence, and how that could possibly be a hint towards the SOUL being not fully human? Well, that could apply here, as well. It’s possible Suzy could be half-monster, but we don’t even know if that’s a possible thing. I’m thinking that perhaps she could have had her SOUL infused with monster magic or dust or something of the like, since it’s likely Gaster experimented with SOULs at some point.
Sub-theory 4: Someone is hiding her/concealing her identity as human
Since Clamgirl talks about Suzy being her neighbor’s daughter, it’s possible her parent is protecting her or even hiding her. I’m not sure how exactly this would work, but it’s a possiblity.
There’s also a few other things I’d like to mention about this theory that I couldn’t fit in:
1. Clamgirl tells Frisk that “In life’s grand scheme, [Suzy] might be why [they] came here in the first place”. This could be implying that Frisk knows Suzy from the surface, which would support the theory that she’s a human. However, it could just as easily be Clamgirl going on about how Frisk and Suzy are fated to meet, especially considering Clamgirl’s phrasing makes it seem like Frisk and Suzy haven’t met before.
2. Clamgirl’s “Fast approaching” line only appears in the Switch version of Undertale, which was released less than two months before chapter one of Deltarune came out. There are 3 possibilities you could take from this:
a. Clamgirl was lying (unlikely)
b. Deltarune’s release was a distraction from some more content coming soon that will actually feature Suzy
c. Suzy is in chapter one of Deltarune.
Conclusion
Anyway, those are the four theories I could come up with on who the red SOUL could be. It could also be a completely new character. Who knows.
Well, now that you’ve read this far... I’d actually like to gather some data. I’m curious what people think the most likely outcome is after reading this. If you could take a few seconds to vote on this poll, I’d really appreciate it!

Gaster Watching Us and Predictions/Analysis of Susie
I have a few theories about the game. A lot build off of the Youtube Channel Game Theory's ideas on what Deltarune is about.
1. The egg: you receive the mysterious egg from a man. Many believe that man to be Gaster. If Gaster was split across time and space when he experimented on himself, then his identity and form would be scrambled... like an egg. Game Theory has a great video on this, but Sans and Papyrus, two characters who move across the two games despite Toby Fox claiming the world of Deltarune is different than Undertale also move across time and space. I posit that Undertale becomes scrambled in deltarune. It is the same thing, but in a different form. Gaster is much like this. He became scrambled, and as is suggested by Matpat, split between Sans and Papyrus. That would explain how the brothers just "showed up one day and asserted themselves" in the community of Undertale and how they are doing the same thing in deltarune. The egg is a good symbol of this. Gaster gives you an egg, you cross a threshold back into the Light World. The fridge represents this threshold. You place the whole egg in the fridge, allowing it to cross a doorway, and then when you check again, there are two eggs. Sans and Papyrus. The sinks in the hospital also suggest this too. The sinks are called twins, but then the game suggests that perhaps they were once one big sink and split in two... and you have to wonder, who is telling us this? Who is the narrator that talks to the player and suggests this? And about the annoying dog making a game in the lab that perhaps shouldn't be disturbed? It's a meta-voice that is reminiscent of San's. Perhaps this narrator... is Gaster watching us. And when you call him out for it by typing in his name, he restarts the game. His presence is all over deltarune. Perhaps we will see.
2. I believe Matpat's theory that this is a game played by Kris and Susie to help them cope with their respective emotional issues. Kris feeling abandoned by Asriel makes up Ralsei and Susie wanting to be praised and fit in makes up Lancer. I want to draw attention to the fact that Kris has to show Susie how to play, since I believe she was too poor to have toys and her parental figure(s) are abusive and convinced her she shouldn't make friends (as we see Lancer's father do). #1 is that she doesn't know how she gained her axe. For kris, his pencil becomes a sword for his character, but Susie doesn't have the imaginative ability to come up with it. Kris makes up the tale and the bad guy, which are pretty generic archtypes that would come from a kid. Susie can imagine one thing that her mind is preoccupied with: food. She is hungry because she is poor. In the scene of her complimenting her enemies with things she wish people would tell her, she says "you are no longer banned from baloney (?) Sandwich day". Why was she banned? Probably from eating them all herself because she has no food at home. She only has chalk to eat, something she is upset Kris sees. Susie eats the cake but it doesn't fill her. Her and Lancer look at food in the tree trunk, and both can't reach it to taste it. If you get Ralsei to taste it, he is able to imagine the taste of honey because Kris knows what that tastes like, having been priviliged with a family that can afford food. Susie calls Ralsei out on only pretending to eat, and Lancer says "I do too!" meaning he pretends to eat just as much as Susie does. Susie lets Lancer eat the candy from the tree, which is also out of reach at first. Susie tries to imagine something cool for Lancer to do to reach the candy. She only comes up with him becoming a stool, but it is an improvement from before she gave into joining Kris in the game when she couldn't imagine a design for the creation blueprint, and so gets Kris to do it for her (and her pretend friend, Lancer) and then simply has it blow up because she can't imagine what it could do. When Susie gives the candy to Lancer she asks him what it tastes like because Susie doesn't know what sweets taste like since they are a luxory. The most she can imagine is in Lancer's (her creation's) response that they taste like friendship, another good thing Susie has a hard time imagining because she has never had a friend. That's why nothing she eats in the Dark World fills her, because it is all imaginary. Anything good is unobtainable and unknown to Susie. When Lancer joins the team, he stands behind and doesn't move to follow the group. Kris (playing as Ralsei) tells Lancer (who is being played by Susie) tells him that he can follow them. Lancer then slides along, as if the person playing him, Susie, doesn't know how to play or imagine a person walking correctly the way Kris is moving Ralsei. Lancer is an extension of Susie's psyche, which makes her battling him in the end and not wanting that soft and childlike side of her to be killed by her anger and friendlessness all the more emotional. She prevails in the end because she begins to learn how to play through Kris, solving puzzles on her own, eventually, when before she would suggest something simple such as imagining climbing over a fence instead of doing a puzzle before you can move on. Susie joins the party for real at the end. She starts having fun playing and expressing her feelings. This game is deep

DELTARUNE
So I’ve finished one (1) playthrough of Deltarune, and as a result I figured I’d go ahead and write up my thoughts. Note that I’m actually writing this at 11:53pm on Wednesday, October 31st; I’ve just queued it to post now. This is because I’m both respectful of Toby’s wishes to wait 24 hours, but also because I want to write up my thoughts before I forget them. (And it’s already been a few hours, so I REALLY hope I don’t forget anything . . .
So! Deltarune spoilers below the cut! You’ve been warned!
First, just to get this out of the way: I firmly believe this to be an alternate universe to Undertale, rather than a prequel or a sequel. Specifically, I believe it’s an alternate universe where the monsters were never sealed underground to begin with. I have a few reasons for this line of thought:
Asriel is still alive, and seems to have grown up healthily and happily. This is the biggest reason why I believe Deltarune can’t be a prequel or a sequel to Undertale. If it were a prequel that took place before the monsters were sealed, Asriel wouldn’t have been born yet. If it was a sequel, he’d be stuck underground as Flowey. While there is a version of Asriel underground(?), we know that Toriel and Asgore’s Asriel is off at university (. . . supposedly). He grew up happy and healthy, meaning that he never died and was turned into a flower. This could only happen in an alternate universe / timeline.
If this was an alternate history where they were still sealed but Asriel grew up underground, Undyne and Alphys would know each other (and be in love), but they don’t. If you talk to Undyne about Alphys, she makes it clear that she and Alphys have never met, asking who Alphys is and then assuming that she’s committed some sort of crime. While this is setting up for a Meet Cute™ between them, it more importantly tells us that nothing that happened in Undertale happened in this universe, which is why they don’t know each other. Along those lines . . .
Sans and Papyrus have only just moved in, and have only just met the other characters. Specifically, Sans has only just met Toriel and Alphys within the past day or so (if he is telling the truth), and Papyrus has apparently never met anyone (we don’t even get to have Kris meet him :’( a tragedy). If the events of Undertale had happened, they would all already be acquainted. Since they’re not, we can assume that this is not a sequel. Moreover, it also can’t be a prequel because we know that Sans and Papyrus “just appeared one day” in Snowdin; they didn’t settle there with the other monsters, meaning that this can’t be a situation where Sans and Papyrus went with the others to be sealed underground. They came later. So, not a sequel, and not a prequel.
Snowy’s mother, Shyren’s sister, and the leader of the dog pack are all just dead, rather than amalgamates. In Undertale, monsters who had “fallen down” (i.e. were dying) were taken to Alphys, who experimented on them with Determination. This resulted in them becoming amalgamates; they survived, but melted together and became deformed. But in Deltarune, if you visit the graveyard to the southwest of town, you discover graves for these monsters (and Gerson, RIP). It appears that while they were taken to Alphys for Determination experiments in the Undertale universe, they simply died in the Deltarune one, presumably because there was no Royal Scientist to take them to this time around (given that, instead of becoming the Royal Scientist, Alphys became a teacher here instead).
Toriel and Asgore are divorced. This cannot be a prequel, because while Toriel and Asgore did separate prior to Undertale, they separated after the banishment in Undertale’s canon. However, it also cannot be a sequel, because Asriel is alive and well. Therefore, for the two of them to still be divorced and Asriel to be alive, this has to be an alternate universe. What drove them apart this time one can only wonder, but this does tell us one thing: it wasn’t just the death of their child(ren) and their reactions thereof that drove Toriel and Asgore apart. Their marriage was never meant to last.
There are probably more things that point to this being an alternate universe rather than a prequel or a sequel, but those are the things that come to mind immediately. While I might not be exactly right about what specifically makes this an alternate universe (that it’s a world where the monsters were never banished, but instead continued to live on the surface), I still think that’s the case, and will continue to think so until proven otherwise. And honestly, I think this is the best thing Toby could have done. A prequel would have ended sadly no matter what Toby did, because the monsters would have ended up sealed underground and we’d likely have to witness the deaths of two children thanks to buttercup poisoning and awful humans. That’s a pretty downer note to end a game on, but Toby would have to if he wanted to make this a prequel. At the same time, while I’m sure there’s story potential in a sequel because I can’t imagine humanity will take the sudden freedom of monsters very well (it’s implied in Undertale’s prologue that it’s been long enough that most humans have forgotten monsters even exist, so to suddenly see a bunch of monsters running around would no doubt freak them out), a game that’s nothing but politics and peace treaties created by a child wouldn’t be very much fun to play. But an alternate universe gives Toby tons of creative freedom to make a new story, even if some of the characters are familiar because they’re alternate universe versions of themselves. This was a really brilliant move on his part (though that shouldn’t be surprising, because this is Toby Fox we’re talking about).
Anyway, enough about that. On to other thoughts!
I still think the mysterious being that talks to us in the beginning is Gaster. It has to be Gaster. First of all, we’ve always had reason to think of Gaster as a potentially dangerous person; that he was lost to his experiment and shattered across time and space aside---that he was a brilliant scientist, and the Royal Scientist before Alphys aside---the Riverperson tells us to “beware the man who speaks in hands.” That’s not specifically about Gaster, but I seem to remember something in the game’s code that suggests it’s probably a reference to him. The Riverperson told us to beware Gaster, and we should have listened, but our curiosity got the better of us. Curiosity killed the cat? No. Curiosity killed the humans. That said, we don’t have proof that it was Gaster yet, but I . . . I still believe . . . (Plus, the original pallet for our vessel was the Gaster Follower pallet, wasn’t it? HMMM . . .)
That said, the being that possesses Kris at the end is very obviously Chara. The red eyes, the smile, the knife . . . all of those things point to Chara. And it’s not that much of a surprise, in a way, because the shirt that Kris wears has the same colors as Chara’s shirt (and their hair is the same, et cetera), but I also have to wonder why. Why did this happen? I’m assuming it happened when Kris noticed their SOUL behaving strangely at the end, while standing in front of the fountain, but I don’t get why. I’m wondering if maybe I made something wrong, if I made a wrong decision, if I made this happen somehow despite that I didn’t kill any monsters (Susie did, once, but not by my will), and I never did a genocide run in Undertale at all, much less on this computer where I don’t even have the game downloaded . . . except . . .
Thinking about it, I don’t think this is something I (or anyone else) did wrong---I think that we were all headed toward this ending, provided all endings lead back to the town and Toriel’s house in the end. And the reason why I think this is that we were told twice that our choices don’t matter. We were told this by Susie when she stopped Kris from answering at the start, but we were also told this by the mysterious being at the very start of the game when he discarded the options we made previously. The only one who seemed to counter the idea that our choices don’t matter is Ralsei, but while I haven’t done multiple playthroughs to confirm, I think that might only impact what happens during the showdown with the king. If you’re kind to all the monsters, they come and save you, and if you’re not, they . . . don’t? I’m not sure, I’ve only done one playthrough. But it might be that your choices only have impact in the dark kingdom; in the surface world, your choices don’t. So while you can effect how your last moments in the dark kingdom turn out, you can’t affect the ultimate ending where Chara takes over Kris’ body and rips out their soul to stuff it in the birdcage.  I still want to know why that happened, though, even if it wasn’t through any fault of mine.
On that note, the anagrams. “Delta Rune” is an anagram of “Undertale” and we been knew about that for years now. Ralsei is an anagram of Asriel, and my friend SB pointed this out to me because I didn’t notice it at first (and she was RIGHT ON THE MONEY HOLY SHIT). But Kris . . . it looks like an anagram of “Frisk”, but it’s missing the F, and while “Frisk” does have more consonants than it’s easy to make an anagram from, I don’t think Toby simply tossed the F off without thought. I think he did it because while “Kris” can be an anagram of “Frisk” without the “f,” it’s also an anagram of “Risk”, meaning danger. There’s a risk of danger with Kris, and we encounter that danger at the very end, when Chara takes over. But why? Why did Chara take over? I need answers, Toby!
Speaking of answers that I need, I need to know what’s going on with Asriel. Asriel was supposedly off at university, yet he’s also very clearly Ralsei. Yet although she appears shocked, Susie doesn’t call him out on this, and you’d think she’d know given that she knows Kris’ mother, and therefore she has to be at least familiar with the sight of Asriel. Moreover, there’s no indication that Kris reacts at all, which is particularly strange since, although Kris is mute, Susie could have noticed Kris’ surprise. But there is none---there isn’t any reaction at all. So what’s going on there? Why is Asriel in the dark kingdom if he’s also off at university? What---what is going on??
Back on the Chara topic for a moment: I checked the mirror both at the start of the game and at the end. The flavor text was “it’s just you” both times. Nothing changed. So why did Chara take over Kris??
I love Susie. Really, all the characters ended up endearing (I would die for Ralsei / Asriel), but I loved Susie’s development. Toby does such a wonderful job of creating characters, and he really knocked it out of the park with Susie. I really love how it wasn’t spelled out that the reason she behaves so aggressively is because she’s lonely and no one wants to befriend her, so she pushes them away so she can act like it doesn’t hurt her, but rather shown with how she reacted to befriending Lancer, and how she felt when he wanted to be like her, and how hurt she was by his seeming betrayal. That we even got to see her development by her eyes becoming visible in the end was icing on the cake. Susie was a brilliant character, and I loved every bit of her development. Even in a game as short as this one, she really shined. ♥
Burgerpants continues to be an absolute fucking delight, and I love that he was apparently best friends with Asriel before Asriel went off to college. If there isn’t tons of fanart of the driving around town “picking up chicks” I’m going to be sorely disappointed.
Both of Lancer’s dads suck ass and I’m so glad that one is in permanent time out and the other is going to shape up his behavior (albeit for the wrong reasons, but we’ll take what we can get.
The gameplay is FANTASTIC. I love, love, love that it’s still recognizably Undertale, but that Toby has also made enough changes to it that it feels like a new experience. Because you know, that’s a problem with some game series: Either the gameplay is too samey and it feels boring, or it’s so radically different that fans of the original can’t enjoy it. But I feel that Toby struck the perfect balance with Deltarune, and I really love it.
The music is fantastic as well. I love the remixes of certain songs (THE UNDERTALE LEITMOTIF IN THE SAVE SCREEN MUSIC, HHHHHH), but the original songs are also great. From the battle theme, which is a bop, to that end credits music . . . is that Temmie singing? If so, her voice is BEAUTIFUL. And if not, whoever the singer is has a beautiful voice. I need to watch the credits again, both to hear the lyrics again (there’s something really soul chilling about the song ending on something akin to “I’m here with you” after seeing Chara take over Kris, gotta say), but also to pay actual attention to the credits this time, and just to hear the music again.
ALL OF THE CAMEOS HAD ME SO HHHHHHH IN THE BEST WAY!!! And the things that we learned about them! Actual, English language confirmation that Sans is the older brother! In-game confirmation that “Azzy” is in fact Asriel’s canonical nickname! SEEING MONSTER KID HAVING GROWN UP TO BE MONSTER TEEN!! All these things are so freaking great. But also, where is Napstablook? Because that was clearly Mettaton in the ghost house. If that’s Mettaton . . . where is Napstablook? Where are they, Toby??
I made this and everyone was wrong about it, it’s beautiful:
Tumblr media
There’s so much more I feel like I should say, but my mind is still buzzing and jumping all over the place. All I have to say is this: When I learned it was a demo, I expected it to take me thirty minutes, tops. But even allowing for the fact that I had to take a thirty minute break and also pause periodically to do work things, Deltarune took me my entire eight hour shift at work. Toby was right to call this “chapter one” at the end; even if it’s not completely polished yet, it already feels like a full (albeit short and with a cliffhanger) game. That Toby blessed us with this for free when there are plenty of indie developers that would have charged at least five bucks for this just goes to show how generous and kind he is to his fans. I mean, to be fair, the man has made a boatload of money off Undertale, to the point where he probably doesn’t have to make another game if he doesn’t want to (which might also be why this is so goddamn good; he didn’t make it because he needs the money, he made it because he wants to make it), so it’s not like he necessarily needs us to pony up the cash. I won’t be surprised if there’s not a Kickstarter for Deltarune (but maybe there still will be, idk). But he still could have charged, and we still would have paid, but he didn’t and so we didn’t have to. He did that because he genuinely wants us to play this game, and he really appreciates us as his fans. I mean, I’ve never spoken to him, so maybe I’m reading way too much into his actions, but this, combined with the fact that he’s never shamed or acted embarrassed of the fandom, leads me to believe that Toby Fox truly respects, cares about, and appreciates his fanbase, and that makes me even happier to support him as a creator.
I can’t wait for chapter two (or the full game), whenever it comes out. I expect it’ll be a while from now, but who knows; maybe Toby is farther along on the project than we know, and we’ll see it around Christmas time. Either way, this is the best Halloween present I could have gotten, and I’m so grateful. Toby Fox is brilliant, and I’m so happy that I decided to pick up Undertale three years ago (and that I purchased the collector’s edition for Switch despite already having it on Steam, and that I dressed as Chara for Halloween today---something which, mind you, I’d been planning for over a month, ever since the CE for Switch was announced and I preordered it, knowing I’d be getting the locket; truly, it was fate that caused Toby to release Deltarune on a day I was already cosplaying as Chara).
I love this series, I love Toby Fox’s creations, and I knew I was right to be impatient for the day Toby would announce he was working on a new project. I knew he wouldn’t disappoint, and I’m so, so happy I was right about that. ♥

A love story : chapter 3
AO3 link
Chapter 1; Chapter 2;
Well, here comes chapter three; one that I just made because damn school can be long sometimes (and because all my recent wish to write was put into Asgore's weekend). It will be cut in two parts considering how long it is...Hope you'll like it and have a merry Christmas/Hanukkah/whatever-party-you-celebrate (if you celebrate one) and a wonderful end of the year !
It was a bright day outside as the group was all together, preparing for a picnic. Considering it was almost December and so winter, Asgore proposed to Undyne and Alphys to hang out in plain nature one more time, resulting in Undyne inviting Papyrus who also proposed to his brother and both ended up inviting Frisk and Toriel. And so here they all were, putting the biggest blanket they had on the ground, starting to look for the food they brought.
As Toriel started to put out the food, Frisk felt their tummy growl. They came closer to the basket, looking at what was in it. It looked like everyone made something. They were spaghetti, packed noodles, tea bags with some cups, hotdogs and a pie. Frisk made a little chuckle, seeing how unique their friends could be, even with non-important things such as food.
“It is such a good day, us it not ?”, Toriel said, looking at her child. They simply looked at her, smiling.
“The weather's just perfect.”, said Undyne as she was standing close to Frisk, stretching while looking at the sky.
“Indeed.”, Asgore responded, eyes closed, taking a deep breath. “Birds are singing, flowers are blooming...”
Frisk froze, feeling very uncomfortable. They quickly turned to Sans and shivered even more when they saw him nodding at what the old King said before half-looking at the human child. They closed their eyes, trying to stop shivering without bringing the others' attention. Though, they started to have a memory. They remembered the first time they meet Asgore, how intimidated they were when he started to say that before they fought, how, with time, Frisk grew up to stop being afraid of him, how they sometimes even ignored what he was saying, trying to get directly to the end. They then remembered the time when they heard it from Sans, as they were on a rampage, determined to see what could happen in such a situation.
“Are you alright my child ?”, their mother's voice put them out of their thoughts; and they realized that tears were rolling down their cheeks.
“I...”, they quickly wiped their tears away, smiling. “I'm fine mom, don't worry. It was just...I was a bit looking at the sun without realizing it.”
“Be careful my child.”, she gently said, though she looked like she wasn't believing them.
“I UNDERSTAND YOU FRISK.”, Papyrus exclaimed. “IT'S SO GREAT TO BE ON THE SURFACE AND ABLE TO SEE THE SUN, IT MAKES IT HARD NOT TO WISH TO STARE AT IT !”
“Except that you can stare at it as much as you want bro.”, Sans started. “It's not like you really need to make puppy eyes for it not to hurt you.”, he winked.
“IS THAT EVEN A PUN ?”, the tall skeleton asked, grunting.
From where they were, Frisk could hear the quiet laughter of Toriel.
“A-anyways.”, Alphys suddenly said, getting everyone's attention. “Um...”, having all pairs on eyes on her, even friendly ones, seemed to make her uncomfortable. “H-how about we...s-start to eat ?”
“Yeah !”, Undyne answered, quickly sitting next to her.
Then, the group started to enjoy their combined meal.
The rest of the afternoon was spend calmly, the group talking and playing one or two games, one of them being Undyne and Papyrus training; and the evening soon came.
“It is getting quite late..”, Toriel murmured next to Frisk, looking at the sun rising down.
“Welp.”, Sans suddenly said, him and his brother looking at each-other. “Guess it's time for one last thing before we all part ways.”
Everyone was looking at the two skeletons, confused.
“THAT'S RIGHT.”, Papyrus said as he started to move away. “COME ON, JUST FOLLOW AND YOU WILL ALL UNDERSTAND.”, as he finished to say that, his brother appeared next to him, following him.
After some walk; none of them being rich enough at the eyes of humankind to buy cars; they arrived in front of the new MTT resort. Without hesitation, the brothers went to a “VIP only” door and Sans talked to the bodyguard for an instant before he let them all pass.
“I'll be back in a sec. Paps will tell you all where to go.”, he then said before teleporting further.
Confused, Frisk was about to ask Papyrus but Toriel outpaced them.
“Papyrus, what is the meaning of this ? Are we supposed to eat here ?”
“YES.”, he quickly answered. “IT WAS SANS'S IDEA. BUT DON'T WORRY, NONE OF YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING, IT'S ALL ON THE HOUSE !”
“Are you s-sure ?”, Alphys asked. “I m-mean; this place p-probably cost a lot, knowing Mettaton...”, she said that last part quieter, in an almost annoyed tone.
“YES. AND HEY, WE EVEN HAVE OUR OWN TABLE RESERVED !”, while saying that, he pointed a set of four tables in contact with each other and with eight seats in total. Suddenly, he took Frisk's hand and moved to the tables.
“COME ON, LET' S GET SEATED !”.
Frisk, even if surprised by his gesture, didn't pull away. When he arrived at the tables, he went to one of the middle seats, pointing the one in front of him for them to sit down.
“UNDYNE AND ALPHYS WILL PROBABLY WISH TO SIT FACE-TO-FACE TO EACH OTHER...”, he started to say as quietly as he could. “...AND I SUPPOSE TORIEL WILL WISH TO SIT NEXT TO YOU ?”
Frisk suddenly understood why the skeleton moved so quickly; though that didn't answer their questions about where did Sans go or how the two brothers got a VIP access. Shaking their head, they quickly took the seat before waving at the group.
“Mr. Asgore !”, they called, used to show him some respect despite him wanting the child to only call him by his name. “Come sit next to me !”, they said in a joyful tone, patting the seat from one of the two tables at their left. The goat monster looked surprised for an instant but still came next to them, ruffling their hair in an affectionate way. Frsik smiled at him, hoping to be able to make some conversation with him as they felt kinda bad for “using” him to make sure of something he may probably dislike.
They then turned to the others. As expected, Undyne sat next to Asgore, at the last table; and Alphys came to the seat facing her. Toriel made a bad look at both Asgore and Frisk before sitting next to her child. After a short time, Sans came back and, before he could choose his seat, Papyrus patted the one next to his right, the one facing Toriel. Sans slowly came to the seat, not seeming to realize or care about who he will surely mostly talk to. Despite it, Frisk and Papyrus shared a satisfied look.
Dinner was pretty great, talks as some people from the resort went on stage to perform. As they were either eating or talking, Frisk often gave looks to Toriel and Sans, who spent most of their time telling puns. Every once in a while, one of them may have a slight blush, probably caused by the proximity between the two; making Frisk smirk.
After a while, Sans got up and started to move away without saying anything. This let the entire group surprised; except for Papyrus who just kept acting as if nothing happened. However, after some time, he started to look at the scene with an expressions that seemed to be a mix of joy and annoyance. Curious, Frisk turned too, seeing the monster on-stage thanking the crow before going away. Frisk also felt the others turning by surprise.
“And now Ladies and Gentlemen.”, Mettaton's voice came from a speaker. “Let's greet our next comedian : Sans Gaster !”
Wait what ?
That was the first thing that came into their mind as they saw the skeleton getting on-stage, a mic in hand.
“Wait a minute Papyrus, you brother works here ?!”, Undyne asked.
“WELL, YES ! DON'T ASK ME HOW SUCH A STAR LIKE METTATON ACCEPTED HIM THOUGH.”, he answered, almost grumbling the second sentence.
The rest of the evening was spend hearing Sans making puns and, if Frisk didn't care much about puns, they admitted that it was a pretty good show. However, what made them laugh the most was Papyrus who was clearly making an effort not to just stand up and go away. On the other hand, Toriel looked delighted by the puns; and it seemed to Frisk that her presence and laughs made Sans more motivated.
After the show, the group started to get up, knowing that they were no point to stay now. Outside, they quickly met Sans who was waiting next to the door.
“So, had a good time ?”, he asked
“Why didn't you tell us that you were working here ?”, Undyne asked.
“Doesn't matter much.”, Sans shrugged.
“Still; at least we'd know where you are at some times.”, she said almost to herself.
“Well.”, Toriel interrupted. “In any cases, that was a really great show ! Thank you for letting us see it Sans.”, she said in a warm tone.
“Heh...you're welcome...”, he responded while putting his hood on and turning his head away.
“Anyways.”, Asgore said after a brief moment of silence. “I suppose it is time for all of us to go home.”
At that, goodbyes started to be said. However, as Frisk was about to say goodbye to Sans, the last person, they saw that he was already away, following his brother. Considering that they saw him say goodbye to everyone else, they started to feel a bit hurt and to wonder if Sans actually even cares about them.
“Are you ready to go Frisk ?”, Toriel's voice startled them.
“Y-yeah ! Let's go home mom.”, they responded, taking their mother's hand as they started the long walk back to their apartment.
It was the middle of the afternoon as Mettaton was waiting in the elevator, his box form on to avoid the possibility of being recognized by fans. When the elevator opened, he quickly moved, getting impatient. After all, he spend the entire first part of the day talking and dealing with his others employees and know he just wanted to have things done as quickly as possible. He didn't have that much time and he has to admit, choosing to set such a thing up during a month of important humans' vacations wasn't his best idea.
When he was in front of the door, he started to lift his hand to knock before seeing that the door was a bit open. KEEPING AN APARTMENT DOOR OPEN ? SUCH A BAD IDEA, ESPECIALLY IF NOBODY'S HERE. WHO KNOWS WHAT KIND OF PERSON WOULD COME. This last thought gave him some childish excitation as he decided to silently look on the apartment. He first thought that nobody was here but still decided to go in; until he heard a sound coming from the mini-kitchen's part. It was a feminine laugh, which directly made him curious. He quietly approached, trying to stay hidden while blaming this form for having a bunch of colored blocks instead of actual eyes. He then saw Sans, sitting at the kitchen's table with Toriel, both of them being in tears from laughing; and Sans trying to tell a ridiculous story between two laughs.
WELL WELL WELL, WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE. SUCH SCANDALOUS INFORMATION I CAN GET HERE ! The ghost-robot monster thought while deciding to stay hidden, both to wait and to enjoy the show.
After some time and once they both calmed down, Toriel looked at her phone.
“Oh, it is starting to get quite late. I will soon need to go take Frisk from Monster Kid's home.”
“So you're already leaving ?”, deception could clearly be heard in his voice, besides his look that seemed to try to stay neutral.
“I am afraid I do. But it was such an enjoyable afternoon. Goodbye Sans.”
“Heh, bye.”, he smiled at her.
Quickly and sneakily, Mettaton, came back to the door, leaving the room as if he weren't there at all.
“WELL HELLO THERE TORIEL !”, he said when the goat monster passed the door, acting as if he just arrived. “IS SANS HERE ? I NEED TO TALK TO HIM. THOUGH I DOUBT YOU REALLY HANG OUT WITH HIS BROTHER.”
“I...”, she seemed confused by his way of teasing but he could see a slight blush as the imply of her coming only for Sans. She shook her head before answering in a more confident way. “Indeed, Sans is here. And hello to you too I suppose.”
“MARVELOUS DARLING ! THANKS FOR THE ANSWER. NOW, IF YOU EXCUSE ME I HAVE AN IMPORTANT BUSINESS TO FINISH !” AND IT WOULD BE TIME TO FINISH IT. He almost sighed to himslef.
Without waiting for any answer from the other monster, Mettaton came into the room again. Sans was still at the table, looking lost in thoughts, a large grin in his face. Smirking, Mettaton sneakily came next to his chair and organized his red-colored buttons into a heart before saying out loud “OH TORIEL ! YOU ARE SUCH AN AMAZING MONSTER ! TOO BAD I AM TO SHY TO TELL YOU HOW I FEEL, MY BEATIFUL, MARVELOUS QUEEN; RULER OF MY HEART !”
Sans was startled by the voice. He quickly turned to the robot, his cheeks strongly blue.
“What do you want calculator ? And don't you know how to knock ?!”, Mettaton almost started to laugh seeing how pissed the skeleton looked after being caught like that. But he decided to go more formal. After all, he wanted things to be done as fast as possible.
“SANS, I'M YOUR BOSS, I COULD FIRE YOU FROM CALLING ME LIKE THAT.”
“Fine.”, the skeleton sighed, putting his hood on. TRYING TO HIDE YOUR BLUSH ? ~ , the robot almost teased.
“What do ya want then ?”, Sans continued.
“WELL, I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT PROPOSITION FOR YOU.”, Mettaton took a seat. “YOU SEE, EVEN IF IT'S BEEN LESS THAN A MONTH SINCE WE ALL ARE ON THE SURFACE, MY SHOWS HAS BEEN REALLY LIKED BY HUMANS. SO I HAD A THOUGHT, SOMETHING I MUST ABSOLUTELY DO. AND THAT THING...IS A BIG TOUR IN THE BIGGEST CITIES OF THE WORLD !”
“...A what now ?”
“YOU HEARD ME SANS. I WANT TO VISIT OTHER CITIES, GET NEW FANS, SEE HOW ALL HUMANS MAY REACT TO MY SHOWS ! MOST OF THEM WILL BE IMPRESSED OF COURSE. AFTER ALL, WHY WOULDN'T THEY ? BUT ENOUGH TALKING ABOUT ME.”, he then took his most serious voice. “LISTEN. YOU, LIKE SOME OTHER MONSTERS, ARE PART OF MY RESORT AND WORK A LOT IN IT; AND IF MY SHOWS ARE OBVIOUSLY THE MOST LIKED, I KNOW THAT YOU AND OTHERS PLAYED YOUR PART IN MY POPULARITY. SO, FOR THAT REASON, I WANT YOU TO COME TO THE TOUR WITH ME AND OTHER MEMBERS. AND BEFORE YOU ASK, OF COURSE YOU WILL BE HEAVILY PAYED ! BUT I MUST WARN YOU, WE WILL HAVE A LOT OF WORK AND TIMEZONES MAY MAKE YOU MORE TIRED THAN USUAL; BUT I WILL STILL LEAVE YOU ALL SOME TIME AT EACH COUNTRY TO RUN FREELY IN TOWN. ALSO, AND OBVIOUSLY, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO BRING YOUR BROTHER ALONG; I'M NOT PAYING FOR OTHERS TO COME. AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO BRING YOUR GIRLFRIEND EITHER ~”
“I don't see what you're talking about. I'm not dating anybody.”, he said, hiding again in his clothes.
“ANYWAYS.”, Mettaton responded, though feeling happy that his box form was so emotionless. “ARE YOU ON BOARD OR NOT ?”
“...To be honest. I dunno. It's a pretty big thing you're asking there. And going during the humans' Giftmas...”
“OH DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT DARLING, I PLANNED IT FOR THE 26 DECEMBER, WHICH MEANS THAT YOU'LL HAVE ALL THE TIME YOU WANT FOR THE HOLIDAYS ! AND WE WIL COME BACK TWO MONTHS AND A HALF LATER. AFTER ALL, I REFUSE TO MISS THE BIG SPRING CELEBRATION !”
“The what ?”, Sans asked, confused.
“THE BIG SPRING CELEBRATION ! HAVE YOU NOT HEARD OF IT ? IT WAS THE KING'S IDEA, MAKING A PARTY TO CELEBRATE THE FIRST SPRING OF THE MONSTERS ON THE SURFACE ! IT WILL BE A BIG FANCY PARTY WITH BOTH HUMANS AND MONSTERS !”
“...huh.”, he didn't look interested in it.
  “BUT ANYWAYS. NOW, IF YOU EXCUSE ME, I HAVE A LOT TO DO FOR THIS TOUR. I'LL LET YOU A WEEK AND A HALF TO THINK OF IT AND GIVE ME YOUR ANSWER. BUT DON'T FORGET ALL THE MONEY AND POPULARITY YOU MAY GAIN FROM IT ! AND ON THAT, HERE I GO !”, he then left the room without another word, hoping that all may accept his request to do the biggest tour ever made !
When the pop-star left, Sans stayed sit, lost in thoughts. Since him and his brother have been living on the surface, life have been mostly great but...How much could I win from this tour ? What if we could buy a real house ? A car maybe ? Man, Paps would be so happy about that !...But is it worth it ?
He stayed silent for a long time, still thinking, until he heard the door open.
“THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAS ARRIVED !”, his brother declared. This made Sans chuckle.
“Hey bro. Had a good day I guess ?”
“OF COURSE ! ALL DAYS SEEMS GOOD ON THE SURFACE. YOU ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING NEW TO DISCOVER !”
“Heh.”, he then looked away. “Say bro, can I talk to you for a sec ?”
“WHAT IS IT BROTHER ?”, Papyrus asked, sitting next to the short skeleton, looking more serious.
“Well...my boss came earlier.”, he started.
“YOU MEAN METTATON ?”
“Yeah. He told me that he kinda planned a...giant tour around the world. And he wants all his workers in i-uh, bro ?”, Papyrus was looking at him with delight in his nonexistent eyes.
“OH MY GOD SANS ! DOES THAT MEAN YOU'RE GOING TO VISIT THE WORLD ? THAT'S SO AMAZING !”
“I...guess ?”
“WAIT. ARE YOU SAYING THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO GO TO IT ? WHY ?”
“Well, a tour's pretty tiring; and it'll be only me and the others members and...how to say that I don't know any of them and don't really care anyways, 'specially of they're a bunch of weird celebrities like the leggy robot.”
“WELL THAT COULD MAKE YOU MEET SOME NEW FRIENDS ! AND FOR ONCE YOU COULD DO SOME EFFORT TO STOP LAZILING AROUND.”
“Heh. But still bro, it's right after Giftmas; which means starting my bag in no-time. And I'll be gone for like three months.”
“SANS YOU BARELY DO ANYTHING FOR GIFTMAS SO AT LEAST PREPARING YOUR BAG WILL HELP YOU PASS TIME.”
“Probably...”, he grumbled.
“SANS...”, Papyrus came closer to his brother, putting a hand on his shoulder. “WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE IDEA OF THIS TOUR ?”, he gently asked.
“I...I dunno bro. It's just...I know there's tons of advantages but...no really, I dunno...”
“MAYBE YOU'RE AFRAID OF MISSING ME OR OUR FRIENDS ? OR OF ENDING UP TOO TIRED ? WELL WORRY NOT BROTHER ! I'M SURE YOU WILL HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO REST ! AND IF YOU MISS ME TOO MUCH, YOU CAN ALWAYS TEXT ME ! BUT IF YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO GO...”
“...I'll keep considering it.”, he said in a shrug but with no smile. Suddenly, his brother pulled him into a hug.
“WELL, WHATHEVER YOU CHOOSE, I'LL BE THERE TO SUPPORT YOU !”
“...heh. You're the best, Paps.”, he responded, hugging him back.
Dinner was already done and eaten when Sans went to lie down on the couch. He pulled out his phone, looking for a certain number before sending a text. This may end up being long..., he thought as he started writing.
-“hey Al. didja know 'bout mtts plans for after giftmas ?”
-“hey Sans !”, the answer was quick. -“so i guess you'll go to the tour ? : 3”
-“not really. im actually not sure at all”
-“what ?! don't you realize how much you'll gain from it, both in money and experience ?”
-“so i guess youre favorable for it”
-“why ? are you doing a vote or something ? è_è
-“nope. but i still wanna know what others may think of it so thanks i guess and bye”
-“seriously ? that's it ? -_-”
-“yep. but we'll see each other for giftmas i guess”
-“it's christmas”
-“meh. t's the same thing. anyways, later buddy ! have fun trying to find anime with giftmas in it !”
-“you can definitely count on me for that ! have a good evening Sans ! \^o^/ ”
Al you're such a dork. , he thought, smiling, as he closed the texts app. He then stayed hesitant for an instant, looking at the screen he was about to open. The singing behind him was a sign that his brother was still doing the dishes and could easily hear him. Sighing, he teleported to their shared room, sitting on his bed before composing the number and putting his phone to his nonexistent ear.
“Hello ?”, a voice he knew oh-to-well answered.
“Hey Tori. Hope I'm not bothering you ?”
“Oh hello Sans ! And do not worry, I just finished the dishes and do not have much to do. So, what makes you call me so late in the day ?”
“Well, I kinda need your point of view on something.”
“I am listening.”, she kindly said. Sans started to feel his cheekbones getting a bit blue and hated himself for that. Of course I gotta be a lovesick mess all because she's being kind with me...
He shook his head before explaining what he knew about the tour and how he was insecure about it. Once he finished, he waited for her to talk. She didn't responded directly and Sans understood that she was probably considering everything before telling him her point of view.
“Well...”, she said after a time. “...as much as I understand how unsure you are, I believe that this is such an opportunity that you should not pass. And in the worst case, I am sure Mettaton would accept to pay you a plane to go back home. But the final choice is yours my friend.”
“So you also think I should go.”
“Indeed. But I will not obligate you to do so.”
“Heh; I know. Welp, thanks Tori.”
“Have a good night my friend.”
“Same. Bye.”
After hanging up, he stared at the phone for a time before heavily sighing while lying down. Welp, if all my friends agree that I gotta stay away from them, I guess I'll have no choice but to go.
Toriel greeted her child as they went on the kitchen, taking the calendar on the counter. Now that December arrived, everyone was preparing for the festivities. Frisk has told their mother a lot about Christmas, especially the differences with Giftmas, a celebration from Snowdin. Frisk talked about how they would decorate a tree and bring presents like in Giftmas; but they also talked about how putting socks in the apartment was part of the celebration, the same way children could have a calendar with one chocolates per day. This part seemed to be Frisk's favorite detail, seeing how happy they seemed to be when the opened the new case of their calendar. However, seeing them enjoying to eat chocolate saddened Toriel; making her think of how her first adoptive child, Chara, could have reacted if they had it at the time.
She shook her head. It wasn't time to think of the past. Smiling again, she went back to prepare breakfast, not wishing to be late for work. After all, the celebrations were still very far and children still had to go to school.
On the walk to school, Toriel saw a lot of people talking about the end of the month, humans and monsters alike. She noticed that the monsters who seemed to have been living in Snowdin were the most impatients about it. Some of them even had decorations in hands. We will have to start planning everything at home too , she though, smiling at the view of how happy some monsters looked.
In the school, most of the children were talking about the festivities and a lot of humans interacted with the monsters presents to ask how they celebrate Christmas. She also heard from the adults that some parties will be made and that monsters were invited to it. Seeing all of this made Toriel feel delighted. She saw that, no matter how some people may sometimes act toward monsters, most of them were accepted by Humankind and that, one day, it will be as if the war never happened.
“Thank you Papyrus for accepting to take care of Frisk while I do some groceries.”, Toriel said to the tall skeleton in front of her.
“WELL OF COURSE LADY TORIEL ! AND THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME INVITE FRISK HOME ! WE WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME; RIGHT FRISK ?”
“Yeah !”, the child happily exclaimed. Toriel chuckled a little.
“You two are welcome. Now, I should really go. Frisk, I will come take you at 4PM, alright ?”
“Alright mom ! Later !”
Toriel rolled her eyes before saying goodbye to Papyrus and leaving the skeleton's apartment.
“SO FRISK...”, Papyrus started once the door was closed and after having checked the room where him and his brother were sleeping. “DID YOU BRING THE THING YOU TALKED ABOUT ?”
“Yep.”, they said, putting down the bag they had and looking for something. They pulled out a mistletoe, snickering.
“A LEAF ? THAT'S IT ?”
“Yes.”, they started to move to the couch. “You see, there's a holiday's tradition saying that, during December, if two people are standing under a mistletoe, they have to kiss or bad stuff will happen to them.”
“OH I SEE.”, he started to have a vicious grin.
“Now.”, Frisk continued. “Can you help me to hang it  above the couch ? After all, I suppose the chance of your brother getting away from it is big, especially if he sees it while knowing what this is.”
“THEY ARE INDEED. AND I HOPE HE WON'T GET AWAY EASILY...”, he said that last part quieter before taking Frisk in his arms and lifting them so they can hang the mistletoe to a small rope that Papyrus already putted after Frisk first talked about a new plan. Once the mistletoe settled, Frisk kissed the skeleton on the cheek, making him let out a “NYEH” of surprise; before he putted them down.
“Now, how about we play some games while waiting ?”, they asked, approaching the table in front of the couch.
“SURE !”, Papyrus went quietly into the bedroom before coming back with a board game, setting it on the small table. “I HOPE YOU'RE READY; BECAUSE I'M NOT SHOWING ANY MERCY WHEN IT COMES TO PUZZLES !”
“I'm ready !”, they said, sitting on the ground, ready to the game.
After some time, they saw Sans coming in the room in a yawn.
“Hi Sans !”, Frisk said, hoping to get some reaction from him for once.
“Huh ? Oh heya kid. Whatcha doing there ?”, if Frisk was happy to see him talk to them, they noticed that he seemed more tired than anything, making them wonder if he was really realizing who he was talking to. Still, they decided to answer.
“Mom had some groceries to do so Papyrus invited me !”
“huh, cool.”, he then lied down on the couch.
“SANS.”, Papyrus suddenly said. “DON'T JUST STAY LIKE THAT ON THE COUCH ! YOU JUST SLEPT !”
Sans simply shrugged, looking at the game the duo were playing.
“So; doing some puzzles ?”, Frisk couldn't say if he was really interested or just faking.
“Yep !”, they said before Papyrus could say anything to his brother about his habits. “And I think we can do another game. Come on Papyrus, I wanna see what kind of games you have !”
“...ALRIGHT ?”, he seemed a bit confused but still followed the human as they went into the bedroom. It was the first time they went in and they almost laughed seeing the big contrast in it. On the left were a messy bed with stuff around everywhere on the ground whereas on the right were a bed made and everything was cleaned up. Frisk easily saw where the games were, considering everything was well put on this part of the room. Looking at it, they saw exactly the kind of game they were looking for.
“SO, WHAT WAS THIS FOR ?”, Papyrus seemed to have only understood a bit why Frisk rushed so suddenly. They took the game and showed it to him. It was a “puzzle” game, an actual puzzle, with apparently 500 pieces.
“You see.”, they started, taking a bit of a know-it-all voice. “We have around....”, they looked at Papyrus' alarm-clock. “...half an hour before mom comes back. In the meantime, we need Sans to stay on the couch, awake. And what's better than to occupy him with a game ?”
“YOU KNOW FRISK, AS MUCH AS I ADMIRE YOUR EFFORT HERE, MY BROTHER ISN'T REALLY THE KIND TO BE INTERESTED INTO A GAME; ESPECIALLY IF HE CAN NAP...”
Frisk grinned. “Oh you'll see.”
After saying that, they hurried back to the main room, followed by the tall skeleton, and opened the puzzle.
“Papyrus; let's see if we can finish this puzzle before mom comes. She would be so surprised if we do !”, they joyfully said. Papyrus looked at them in an understanding way before sitting back next to them, making sure that Sans had the puzzle in view.
“YEAH; LET'S DO IT !”
And so they actively started the puzzle, Frisk taking all the brims while Papyrus was sorting the others pieces by color.
“Kid, ya forgot one.”, Sans told them pointing a piece.
“Oh yeah. Thanks !” It's working !
“SAY SANS, DON'T YOU WANT US TO PUT THE TABLE CLOSER SO YOU CAN HELP BETTER ?”, Papyrus asked, looking like he wanted to hide a grin.
“Nah, I'm fine bro.”, he shrugged, not moving from the couch. Though, he kept helping from time to time, pointing some pieces.
After half an hour of puzzle, Sans suddenly heard a knock on the door. Before he could react, his brother ran to it, watched by a kid with a large grin. Man, what's with this kid today ? Heh, is Giftmas' spirit real to make them happy all day like that ?
“WELL HELLO AGAIN LADY TORIEL ! DID THE GROCERIES WENT GOOD ?”
“It did.”, responded the new voice. “Thank you for taking care of Frisk. I suppose you had a good time ?”
“Hey mom !”, Frisk said before Papyrus could answer. “We almost finished a puzzle that we made in only half an hour ! Come see !”
Sans couldn't see her, being too lazy to sit, but he was sure she was grinning to see her kid so joyful. He could hear her approach though and could finally see her as she came next to her child, looking at the 3/4 done puzzle.
“So you made this in only half an hour ?”, she didn't seem to really believe them.
“Yeah. We were really organized. And Sans helped too !”
“Sans ?”
“Sup ?”, he said, not moving from the couch. She quickly turned.
“Oh hello my friend.”, she said, looking quite a bit embarrassed from not having noticed him before now. Sans simply shrugged, smiling.
“Say mom.”, Frisk started, looking weirdly excited. “How about we made you a hot drink ? After all, you do just came from a long time outside. What do you say Papyrus ?”
“I SAY IT'S A VERY GOOD IDEA TO MAKE ONE FOR EACH OF US ! COME ON FRISK !”, then, both of them ran into the kitchen's part of the room.
Sans and Toriel stayed immobile for a second before Sans started to chuckle.
“Man, these two are such storms. And I thought my bro alone was already something big.”
Toriel quietly laughed. “Indeed. I do hope they were not much of a bother to you.”
“nah. Well, they didn't break anything so I guess we're good.”, this made her laugh again. Then, seeing that the two were probably about to take some time, Sans sat up, leaving some place for Toriel to sit. She did, murmuring a “thank you”.
After a short time, Frisk and Papyrus reappeared, both of them holding two mugs.
“THE HOT CHOCOLATE IS READY !”, Papyrus declared as the two settled the mugs down, next to the puzzle.
Before Sans could stand to take one, Frisk turned back and looked above him with an exaggerate surprise, gasping.
“Mom ! Sans ! Look !”
Sans looked up, confused, only to see a leaf with some red fruits above him. He heard another gasp, coming from his brother.
“FRISK, ISN'T THAT A CERTAIN LEAF YOU TALKED ABOUT EARLIER ?”
Ok, what are these two planning ? , Sans thought, starting to feel a bit uncomfortable.
“That's right !”, they voice still sounded fake, which made Sans really uncomfortable. “It's a mistletoe ! And if two people are below it, they need to kiss or bad luck will happen to them !”
Sans froze. He started to feel his cheekbones turning blue and this time, there was no way he could hide it. I swear to god kid if you and my bro really planned this shit...
He looked at Toriel who was blushing too, having the same panicked look as him. Wait, would that mean- no, she can't be in love with me...can she ?
“no but really.”, Frisk continued. “It would be a shame if you two ended up cursed just for that.”
You're the one I will curse about. , he mentally grumbled as the kid covered their eyes, probably thinking of how Toriel interrupted Undyne and Alphys once because the kid were there. Papyrus also looked away with a big grin. Bro I swear once these two are away we'll have a LONG chat !
After an instant Toriel cleared her throat, not looking at him but seeming less flustered.
“Well...if it gives bad luck...I presume we...have no choice.”
Wait what ?! , Sans didn't move as she started to go closer to him. He heard Frisk's excitation and Paprus' squeak but all he could do was looking at her as her face came closer. Oh god oh god oh god oh god !
Suddenly, she smiled, barely blushing anymore, before moving upper and kissing him on the forehead. She then came back to her place on the couch as Sans fell all the tension getting away. He heavily sighed, lying on the couch and murmuring a small “thanks” to her.
“Now Frisk.”, she said, turning to the other two who looked clearly disappointed. “It is time to go home.”
The kid complained for a second before saying goodbye to the two brothers and following Toriel as she left, saying goodbye too.
When they started to go to the door, Sans stood up on the couch, looking at them. Once the door was closed, he turned to his brother.
“THAT WAS SO CLOSE...”, the younger brother murmured.
“Yeah, so close; way too close ! Seriously Papyrus, what the hell ?!”, Sans was almost feeling the flames of his blue eye coming. He couldn't admit it but he was scared, terrified even. For him, this kind of situation could only lead to two thing : either the Boss monster shared the same feelings as him but the kid resets, destroying everything, or she didn't love him, transforming the friendship he worshiped so much into an awkward situation each time they talked.
“DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT, I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP YOU HERE !”, he looked saddened, which bothered Sans even more.
“Helping me ?! If ya really wanted to help me, you wouldn't be putting me into such situations ! Me and Tori aren't random toys that you can mess around with just because you don't have anything better to do ! And you should know it since we already talked about that !”
“SANS...LOOK, I'M SORRY IF IT BOTHERED YOU BUT I'M REALLY THINKING THAT THIS COULD HELP YOU. WELL, ALRIGHT, MAYBE ME AND FRISK WENT TOO FOWARD HERE; BUT I REALLY THINK YOU SHOULD CONFESS TO LADY TORIEL ! AND FRISK THINKS TOO.”
“Why does the kid cares so much anyways ?”, he asked, really hoping to get an answer while ignoring the all “you need to confess” part.
“TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST WITH YOU, FRISK IS THE ONE WHO THOUGHT ABOUT THE MISTLETOE. BUT AT THE VERY BEGGINING, I'M THE ONE WHO FIRSTLY TALKED ABOUT HOW YOU AND LADY TORIEL NEED TO BE MORE THAN FRIENDS !”
“So the kid's strongly in it...”, he started to feel a deep rage. So that's it kid ? You use my brother as a way to toy with me and your mom ? And what will happen if we get together ? You're gonna reset everything again and redo that ? Heck, will you try making our relation different to be less bored ?
“SANS ? ARE YOU ALRIGHT ?”, Sans looked up to his brother, realizing that his blue eye was on.
“I...”, he sighed, blinking to go back to normal. “Sorry for that bro. But seriously ! Stop with the romantic bullshit. Now if you excuse me I have a nap to take.”
Without waiting for his brother to respond, Sans teleported into their room. He took a pillow, screaming in it before holding it tight. He hated to get mad at his brother, he hated to know that the kid still probably wanted to play with lives; and he hated to know that he just appeared as a blushing mess right in front of Toriel.
He buried his face into the pillow again, hoping to disappear; only to end up falling asleep under the worried watch of his brother.
Note :  The mistletoe part was a lot inspired by the second chapter of “ 'tis the season to be blushing” written by ShadeDuelist; a Soriel mini-fanfic (with a last chapter that not everyone should read and that I personally didn't read)

Bonsai! A Sansby au created by @withtheworms and @illegalsekrit . The basic concept is that Grillby and Sans swap places. Wormy mentioned something about a certain character, and that got the creative wheels turning until they spun out of control.
A lot of this involves personal headcanons about tale Grillby that I just transferred onto Sans for this.
I spent about two hours starting at 1 am just non-stop writing on my phone, then had an equally tired friend give it a once over. There's probably extra spaces everywhere because of that. I'd add more detail, but I'm running on 5 hours of sleep because my cat woke me up (very important to pay attention to your cat. Very.) So I'm just going to go back to sleep after this and dream about this flame man. Please enjoy!
“SANS! SANS!”The skeleton in question turned himself towards that small, gleeful voice just in time to get barreled into and knocked to the ground by his enthusiastic younger brother. Sans was now laying sprawled on the floor and pinned under Papyrus. The older brother let out a playful groan and went limp.
“oh no,” Sans said in a teasing voice. “the great papyrus has taken another victim. what will become of poor sans?” He lifted an arm to his frontal to add emphasis to his play-demise. His grin grew wide when Papyrus started laughing.
“COME ON, SILLY BONES! YOU PROMISED YOU'D SHOW ME THAT THING FATHER GAVE YOU!”
“can't right now, bro. i'm still captured.” Papyrus shook his skull, then quickly got off of his brother and helped Sans to his feet. Once Sans was up, he summoned his magic and a large dragon-like skull popped into distance, hovering a few feet off the ground. Papyrus immediately lit up.
“WOWIE! IT LOOKS SO COOL!” The younger skeleton approached the floating skull and rubbed the top of its muzzle.
“yeah. not as cool as you though.” Sans smiled at his brother, only to dismiss the attack. He knew they were dangerous, so he didn't want to risk accidentally hurting Papyrus, even if it was just one hp.
“SO WHAT DO THEY DO?” Without the blaster in front of him anymore, Papyrus turned to Sans.
“well, they--”
Before Sans could finish, the front door opened with a crash as a third skeletal monster came charging through with no grace. He ran inside and slammed the door shut equally as hard as he'd opened it, frantically turning the locks.
“dad?”
“FATHER? WHAT'S WRONG?” Papyrus started approaching his father, but was stopped by a wave of the hand and some blue soul magic.
“Boys,” Gaster’s voice was tense, and he was visibly shaken from whatever was wrong. “We Need To Leave. The Humans Are Coming.”
~*~*~
 Everything went by in a blur after that. Gaster took Sans and Papyrus and half led, half dragged them out the back door and away from the center of town. The sounds of screaming echoed from behind them, and though they were scared and confused, they kept running...
They didn't make it very far.
An army of humans was there to greet them and several other monsters who tried the same escape route. Gaster cursed under his breath when he saw them draw their swords. “Sans, Take Papyrus And Run. You Remember How To Use Shortcuts, Right?”
Sans looked up at his father nearly shaking with fear. The humans were gaining, and going back meant certain death. “y-yeah, but--”
Gaster didn't wait for him to finish. He summoned his own arsenal of magic attacks, bones and blasters alike. “Go, Sans! Protect Your Brother!” He charged forward with the determination of a father.
“NO!” Papyrus started to go after him, but Sans quickly took hold of the younger skeleton. He flailed around in Sans’s arms to no avail. Sans took one last look at his father before stepping through a shortcut with a screaming Papyrus in his arms.
 ~*~*~
 Papyrus was in danger. Sans had only left their secret refuge to find some food for his brother, but on the way back from stealing some bread from the nearby human village,  he'd heard screaming. A shortcut later, and Sans was face to face with a human who had found his brother. They were locked in battle with Papyrus desperately trying to hold them back south blue soul magic and bone attacks while the human was trying to fight through the increased gravity and get in close. Sans wasn't about to let that happen. He summoned a blaster to add to the fight, then stepped in front of Papyrus. “i got this pap. just stay behind me.”
 Round after round, attack after attack, the human was still coming strong, but Sans was tiring out. He knew he couldn't last much longer. He cast a few blasters and fired them. Yes! The human was so close to death. Just one more hit! Their next attack was pretty pathetic too. Instead of slashing their knife at Sans, they simply threw it at him. Sans easily dodged it, and grinned. “You're out of knives, pal.” He threw the human down onto a bone, skewering them straight through their body. “get dunked on.”
The human coughed up blood, but looked up at Sans with a manic grin. “Burn in hell, monster scum,” they croaked out just as the life drained from their eyes.
 Sans sighed with relief, and was about to collapse when he hard a thump behind him. He turned, but the sight was something straight out of a nightmare. Papyrus had fallen to his knees, jaw gaping open in a silent scream, and his hands hovered around his sternum, right where the hilt of a knife had pierced the bone. He looked as mortified as Sans felt, tears of liquid magic spilling from his eye sockets.
Sans was on him in an instant, cradling him in his arms and trying his best to heal what was already irreversible. “pap pap pap, it's ok. it’s ok, look. i-i’m gonna fix this. i can fix this. i can heal you. i-- i-- i--”
“S-Sans...” Papyrus’s voice had never been so quiet, so fragile. “Could you… tell me a pun...? Please...?”
Sans’s voice broke for a moment, tears filling his own eye sockets. His brother's phalanges were already starting to break away. “why did the skeleton love his brother?” He paused, trying desperately to keep his voice from being overtaken by sobs. “because... without him, he'd be bonely...”
Papyrus smiled a weak smile. “I love you, Sans...”
 His arms were empty.
 “...i love you too, pap.”
 ~*~*~
 Sans lurched forward, effectively sitting up in his bed. He recognized his room, but the safety of it didn't register. His brother just died in his arms again. Papyrus was gone again. He was alone again.
He was always alone...
“Sans... Sans, it's ok... Look... Sans, look at me.”
Sans jerked his head in the direction of that voice, words not making sense. Was that another human? Was he going to be killed too? Would he get to see his brother again?
Warm. His cheekbones were suddenly very warm, almost pleasantly, and his vision was completely engulfed by fire, or rather the person in front of him who just so happened to be completely made of fire. “Sans, look at me... It's Grillby, ok...? It's Grillby.”
Sans blinked a couple of times, the rest of the world finally catching up to him. It had been another nightmare. Grillby had spent the night on his couch. “...Grillby...?”
The fire elemental nodded, his form hold on Sans’s skull relaxing a little. “I'm here, Sans...”
That was all it took for Sans to break down. He reached his arms forward and pulled Grillby close enough to bury his face in that familiar-smelling hoodie of his. He bawled and clung to the fire elemental’s hoodie, far too overwhelmed to do anything else but cry and listen to the soft pulsing of Grillby's core. Warm arms wrapped around his small frame and pulled him close, to which he was thankful for. He needed this. He'd talk to Grillby admit his nightmare later.  For now, he just needed to be held, and who better to comfort him than his best customer, closest friend, and secret crush?
 ~*~*~
 Grillby had no idea what kind of nightmare Sans had had, but if it was enough to get the pun-loving bartender to cry so violently,  it must have been bad. And what was that skull thing earlier? Grillby had been lucky enough that it hadn’t fired at him. He was surprised the wall hasn't taken any damage either, considering the size of the blast. He'd ask Sans about it later. Right now, Sans needed him. The elemental wasn't entirely sure what to do; it wasn't like he had much experience comforting others. Usually Sans was the one comforting him on his bad nights. It was all he could to to just hold Sans and rub small circles into his scapulae and murmur calming words. It broke his soul knowing Sans was hurting.  Grillby just hoped he was doing things right for his crush.

Every single Undertale ask you haven't answered yet. Heck even the ones you have.
I’m putting a hecking read more line because that’s a lot of shit
1. Who’s your favourite character from UT? Excluding the skeleton bros its Undyne. I love her I love her I love her she reminds me or Erza from Fairy Tail and did I mention I love her?
2. Who’s your least favourite character from UT? Honestly? Alphys. Its not that I think she’s poorly written (she’s very fleshed out) but I don’t really like characters that I have to feel sorry for. Pity’s not really an emotion I like. Plus she never really apologized to me or Mettaton. She only seemed to be concerned with how she felt. Which I think its important for people with anxiety and guilt to learn how to forgive themselves, but it would have been nice to hear her say sorry.:
4. What’s your favourite quote? Anything out of Flowey’s mouth
5. What’s your favourite soundtrack? Spear of Justice. So pumped up
10. Your first letter to Mettaton was:Leg so hot. Hot hot leg. Leg so hot you fry an egg
11. Your reaction when you saw Omega Flowey for the first time: CONFUSED AND HORRIFIED SCREAMING
12. Your headcanon about Frisk’s gender: Female, but I really don’t give a shit. Mae or gender neutral Frisk is cool too.
13. Which UT character reminds you of yourself? Sans, minus the badass stuff, but with the laziness, fashion sensibilities, and shitty sense of humor
14. Which UT character reminds you of your best friend? My best friend….honestly some bizarre fusion of the River Person and Asriel
15. Would you smooch a ghost? If the right one came along
16. Which UT character would be your best friend? Why? Like I said, Sans and I have a lot in common. I think I’d have an odd friendship with Mettaton if the right circumstances came along. And of course Papyrus.
18. Did you do sth in game you regret? I KILLED UNDYNE
20. Your favourite land in UT and why: (Snowdin, Waterfall or Hotland) Waterfall. The atmosphere and the music were stunning, and I loved the color scheme
21. Your favourite place in UT and why: (Undyne’s house for example) The Judgement Hall. Gorgeous colors, beautiful atmosphere, and I am a sucker for pillars and stained glass.
22. Your headcanon about River person’s gender:…..honestly, not a clue. I’m going genderless.
23. Your headcanon about one of the UT characters:……too many to count. But Undyne is afraid of thunderstorms and copes by going out to fight them.
24. Butterscouch or cinnamon pie? B-scotch, my dude
25. Your opinion/headcanon about six human souls: Not all of them are kids. And they are all salty lil fucks.
26. With who would you go on a date? The dates with Sans were always pretty chill.
28. Do you wanna have a bad time?….I mean not really
31. Would you want to fall into underground? I think only if I knew I could help them get out. While still being, you know, alive.
32. Describe or draw your undersona: I don’t really have one? When I think about self-insert stuff I tend to just view myself as a human who ended up friends with them on the surface.
33. One reason why you love UT: Story, characters, writing, unique take on old mechanics
34. One reasom why you hate UT: For a game that’s meant to be replayed a lot the puzzles are repetitive as shit. The steam vent puzzles in Hotland can go fuck themselves. I’m with Papyrus its a shitty place.
36. Your favourite amalgamate: Lemon Bread. I love them for no reason.
37. Your headcanon about Gaster: who do you think Gaster is to Sans and Papyrus? (Father, brother, uncle etc) I’m that basic bitch who lives for Dadster
38. Your opinion about bad puns: This game actually completely changed me. I was a well-known Pun Hater. Now I’m a piece of shit who lives for the groans that follow a particularly bad one
39. Do you draw fanarts from UT? If yes, then what do you like the most to draw? Can’t draw for shit
40. Which of human souls fits you the most? Patience. I kind of let stuff roll of my shoulders, and prefer to wait for the right moment. I’m also lazy as fuck
41. What would be the first thing you would to show to Sans, Papyrus or the rest of characters in human world? Why? Roombas. Just want to see Undyne and Papyrus gush about it and watch it for hours, Alphys try and reprogram it, Toriel use it to clean the house, Mettaton feeling oddly jealous of the attention its getting, and Sans laying his socks on top of it.
42. Which song reminds you of UT or one of the UT characters? Why? I’ve posted about this before but “Salvonic” reminds me of Frisk after a Genocide run and “Just Gold” by Mandopony makes me think of Chara and Flowey
43. Your opinion on underloid: Haven’t listened to much, but I’m down. I like vocaloid.
44. Do you forgive Asgore for what he’s done? Yeah, I love my Goat Dad, even if he makes poor decisions.
45. Did you pay for Tem’s college? Once, because I’m a filthy cheater and wanted Tem armor.
46. Have you seen any youtube letsplay of UT? Jacksepticeye’s play-throughs are what got me into the game in the first place. I also watched dan and Phil’s.
47. Do you listen to any fanmade songs? If so, then which are your favourite? Yeah dude. I really love the “stronger than You” parodies, and fishy love is my jam.
48. What are your favourite theories? Chara is the narrator
49. Who is your favourite enemy? (Not including boss monsters) Doggo. His yapping face fills me with glee
50. Do you have any headcanons about Chara’s past? (Why they hate humanity, why did they fell to the underground etc) I had a lengthy as fuck backstory written up at one point, but I think they had a neglectful as fuck dad. Not abusive, but he just left them alone and only paid attention when they did something wrong or “earned” his attention. Nobody in their lives did anything, leaving Chara to believe that you can’t trust other people to help you out or care about you. They ended up in the Underground by accident. They were walking late  night, fed up with everything, frustrated, crying and ended up tripping into the hold. What sucked was that they weren’t sure their dad would even notice.
51. Who is your favourite dog? Greater Dog. That little bark noise made the world right for a brief and shining moment
52. What was your reaction to true lab? Fuck this shit I’m out….
53. Your fabourite voice acting: tehrogue does good stuff. And FUCK supershadicx250 and crashboombanger’s Fell Sans’ voice FUCK ME UP RN
54. At the end of pacifist run did you stay with your friends or did you come back to your family? Did anybody actually go back to Frisk’s family? Other than for intellectual curiosity?
55. Who is older - Sans or Papyrus? For some reason regardless of universe I always see Papyrus as the older one.59. Your favourite puzzle: That one with Mettaton in the Dungeon
60. Which battle was the hardest for you? FUCKING WOSHUA I HATE THAT BATTLE I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS BUT I CAN’T FIGHT WOSHUA
61. Did you still hate Flowey after you discovered his true indentity? I never hated Flowey.
62. The saddest moment: The God of Hyperdeath begging me to stop trying to abandon him
63. Which ending is your favourite? True Pacifist, obvs.
65. Any post pacifist run headcanons? I love PTA!Sans as much as the next girl but PTA!Papyrus is where its at. Also Alphys is introduced to a whole new world of anime because the only anime that ends up Underground is the crap kind that people throw away.
66. Your favourite NPC: I’m guessing you mean side character? Gerson. Love me some cantankerous old people
67. Humans or monsters? I REFUSE THIS CHOICE
68. The funniest situation: Temmie Village released horrified and manic giggles out of me, but also the date with Papyrus.
69. Skeletonfucker, robotfucker, goatfucker or kinkshaming? *looks at Red*………..kinkshaming (JK total skelefucker)
70. When playing for the first time how many candies did you take? All of them. Fuck da police.
71. Did you kill or spare Flowey at the end of the game? Spared, but hot damn I wanted to kill him.
72. If you had to be one of the main characters, which would you choose? Undyne. I want that hair and muscle tone74. Which character(s) would you like to cosplay? I’m not much of a cosplayer but I wouldn’t mind doing Chara. I’ve kind of got the hair anyways.

Bumps & Bruises
Note: Since Sam is being stubborn on their ask blog, why not make them stubborn in the fic blog as well? Anyway, onto the fic!

Summary: After getting a serious injury from playing, Sam tries to hide it from Gaster. How long before will it be for the pain to become too much for them?
    “HUMAN SAM, WHY ARE WE IN THE OLD CELL ROOM?”
    “yea, we don’ sleep here anymore...”
     Sam’s heart fluttered when 2-P said that. ‘The old cell room’ were words the Human never expected to ever hear. Ever since Gaster made his tiny clones, he had needed a place for them all to sleep comfortably even though there were only there’s only half of the original 50 now. Where the other half went, Sam had no idea. According to Gaster however, some sort of mystery person had come and taken the tiny skeletons for some reason. The Human was too baffled to question anymore of that.
     Now instead of sleeping in the cell room, Gaster had move the brothers and them to a converted storage room. Even though the ‘beds’ were just blankets and pillows, it was cozy and now the three of them could come and go as they pleased since the brothers don’t really have a reason to run off anymore. The two babybones still complained about having to do tests.
    “*You hold up a red ball as you tell the brothers that you’re going to teach them how to play catch.” ‘*They look confused...’
    “WHAT’S ‘CATCH’?”
    “is it some sort of test? i don’ wanna do tests...”
     The brothers suddenly got really excited when the Human explained that catch was a game that involved one person throwing a ball and another person has to catch it. Sam could barely get through their explanation as Subjects 1 and 2 kept interrupting them with questions. After getting them to calm down, the Human had 2-P stand in front of them.
    “*You tell 2-P that he needs to catch the ball when you throw it, ok?” ‘*He nods and holds his arms out.”
     Sam, as gently as they could, tossed the ball towards the skeleton. The red ball bounced and proceeded to...smack the poor babybones in the face, causing him to start crying. Sam rushed over to him and began to check for injuries. Sans hugged his brother in an attempt to comfort him.
    “WAAAAAH! I DON’T LIKE THIS GAME, HUMAN SAM!”
    “*You kiss the spot where he was hit and tell him that you’ll let him and his brother throw the ball instead.”
     The Human picked up the ball and handed it to 1-S, explaining that he needed to throw it to them. The tiny skeleton looked at it confused before throwing it as hard as he could. The ball made a couple of small bounce before rolling to the opposite side of the room and hitting the wall. Sam applauded him though. They praised him as they walked over to retrieve the ball.
    “You praise Subject 1 and start to tell him to try and aim a little higher when Toby suddenly runs out in front of you.”
     Upon seeing the ball bouncing around, the little dog couldn’t help himself and ran after it. Sam, in an attempt to stop themselves from accidentally stepping on Toby, tried to quickly turn and move away. However, something went wrong and the Human ended up losing their footing and when they tried to regain balance, their right foot bent sideways and a ‘popping’ noise was heard as they fell to the ground. Sam cried out in pain as the brothers ran over to help them.
    “H-HUMAN SAM, A-ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!”
    “s-should i go get him so he can-”
    “*You interrupt him by saying that you’re fine and that it was just a little accident.”
     The brothers didn’t look convinced so the Human decided to show them by walking around. But when they got up and put enough pressure on their ankle, pain immediately shot up their leg causing it to start throbbing. Sam was determined though and started to walk towards the door despite the intense pain they were feeling. Tears pricked at their eyes as they limped away. Sam still refused to tell Gaster against the brothers’ insisting though.
    “*You tell Subjects 1 and 2 that everything is alright and that it’s only a small bruise.”
    “BUT YOU’RE REALLY INJURED, HUMAN SAM! YOU NEED TO GO TELL HIM!”
     1-S watched nervously as his brother and kind of parent began to argue back and forth about whether or not Sam should tell Gaster about their injury. That’s when he noticed the scientist walk into the room, having heard the argument from his office. The Human and 2-P noticed as well and promptly stopped arguing. Gaster had a stern look on his face as he began to scold the two.
    “What is all this noise about? I could hear the two of you from down the hallway...”
    “HUMAN SAM-MMPH!”
     Sam quickly covered Subject 2′s mouth while explaining to Gaster they just had a disagreement about something. The skeleton bought the excuse but noticed that the Human was standing a bit awkwardly.
    “Are you alright, Sam? Is something wrong with your leg?”
    “*You tell Gaster that you’re fine and that you’re just stretching...” ‘*He gives you a look but doesn’t say anything else...”
     After the scientist left, Sam limped towards the kitchen to get lunch started even though the brothers warned them against it. They were DETERMINED to keep going about their day though so they paid no mind to the warnings. The pain would probably down if Sam kept walking on it.
~~~~~~
     The Human usually never admitted that they’re wrong about anything, but now they were starting to regret not telling Gaster about their ankle. The throbbing and intense pain had not gone down like Sam thought it would. It only seemed to have gotten worse and the ankle looked a little swollen now. The Human almost cried tears of joy when Gaster told the brothers and them that it was time for bed. Subjects 1 and 2 kept giving them looks as Gaster took them all  but still Sam told the skeleton nothing about their injury. Hopefully things will be better in the morning.
(The Next Morning...)
     Sam was awaken by 1-S and 2-P shaking them. They both had a very concerned look on his face.
    “um, sam? your ankle doesn’ look too good...”
     Confused, the Human looked down at their ankle and almost cringed at the sight of it. The ankle was way more swollen than it was yesterday and an ugly purple bruise had formed as well. Not to mention the throbbing had increased in intensity. How were they going to hide that from Gaster?
    ‘*You struggle to stand up as pain shoots through your leg.’
    “ARE YOU FINALLY GOING TO TELL HIM NOW?”
    “*You tell 2-P that you don’t want Gaster to worry...”
     The brothers exchanged exasperated looks as the Human stumbled out of the room. On their way towards the kitchen to make breakfast, Gaster, who was too busy writing on his clipboard, accidentally bumped into them and hit their ankle. Sam’s breath hitched as their ankle throbbed harshly.
    “Oh, excuse me, Sam. I was just-”
    ‘*You hiss in agony as tears start running down your face.’
    “Sam?!”
     The Human gasped as they tried to stand up but the pain was just too much for them now. The scientist picked Sam up and carried them to his office despite their protesting. He sat the Human down on the couch and had them prop their leg up on his lap. Gaster ignored them when they tried to insist that they were fine. He rolled down their sock and winced at the sight. It looked really bad. He gently pressed against the injury, causing Sam to let out a choked cry.
    “Hmm...it doesn’t appear to be broken, just sprained. How did you get an injury like this anyway, Human?”
    “*You explain how you sprained your ankle playing with the brothers.”
    “Mm-hm...and how long were you planning on hiding this from me?”
     Sam didn’t say anything, actively avoiding eye contact with Gaster, who had a stern expression. They remained quiet as the scientist grabbed some compression wraps and wrapped their ankle and foot up. After that, the Human was told that they were to not walk on that ankle at all until it was healed. As Gaster carried them back to the room, he started to scold them for their carelessness.
    “Sam, you do know that your injury could’ve gotten much worse had I not found out, right?”
    “*You tell him that you didn’t want him to worry because of you...”
    “That’s not an excuse, Human. A sprained ankle can easily be healed as you just saw.”
     Gaster walked up towards the storage room and opened the door. The brothers were still there, obviously concerned about Sam. The skeleton had the babybones leave and head to the kitchen for breakfast. He then had Sam lay down and prop their foot up on a pillow. After making sure they were comfortable, Gaster got up to walk out when he suddenly turned to face the Human.
     “Besides, Sam, what kind of soulmate would I be if I can’t take care of you?”
     The scientist then left the room, closing the door behind him. It was a good thing he didn’t look back at Sam, otherwise he would’ve seen the massive blush spreading across their face.
Note: Aww, hopefully Sam’s ankle heals up quickly. Thank you everyone so much for reading! I had a lot of fun writing this one! I hope you all enjoy! I love you all! Stay tuned for more.
Summary: Gaster seems to be anxious about something. Will the Human be able to figure out what it is?
     The Human had notice it for a while now. Gaster had been acting weird for the past few days, tensing up whenever they gave him a peck on the cheek or were sitting really close to him. The Human wondered if they had done something wrong but couldn’t recall doing anything different from what they’ve usually been doing. Of course, that didn’t ease their worries any less. But whenever they ask him about his behavior, Gaster got really dismissive about it.
    “*You ask Gaster if he’s feeling alright.”
    “Of course I’m fine, Human. Why the question all of a sudden?”
    “*You tell him you’ve been worried about him because of how he’s been acting lately.”
    “What do you mean, Human? I think you’re very much mistaken. I’ve been acting how I usually would.”
     No matter how much questioning they did, Gaster wouldn’t admit to acting weird around them. He would also put them back into the cells if he thought the Human was being too pushy with the question. Still, they persisted with their mission to get answers from him or at the very least, figure out what was wrong. But seeing as they got nowhere doing it by themselves, the Human needed to enlist in some help.
     The problem with getting the brothers to help, however, was that they usually thought the Human wanted to play some sort of game. The Human didn’t mind though. It was probably better that way.
    “what kinda game is this? it seems really boring right now...”
    “SHUSH, BROTHER. WE’RE SUPPOSE BE SNEAKY SPIES!”
    “*You whisper to the brothers to lower their voices.”
     Subjects 1 & 2 were following the Human down the hallway. Gaster had to finish up some work so he told all three of them to stay in the testing room until he got back. The Human took at the opportunity to try and spy on him, along with the brothers of course. They reached his work room where the Human peeked around the door frame and saw Gaster writing at his desk. Maybe the Human could try to wait and see if he falls asleep soon. That seemed to be the only way they could safely look around.
     Sure enough, after a while of waiting (and petting the brothers to keep them quiet), The Human heard a small thud sound from the room followed by light snoring. That was their cue to hurry and search for clues. Gaster was pretty much unpredictable when it came to his sleeping pattern at this point.
    “HEHE, HE FELL ASLEEP AGAIN.”
    “*You cheerfully whisper to the brothers that it’s time to look around for clues.” ‘*Now they look interested...”
      The Human continued to act like this was still a game by telling them to search for clues. Subjects 1 & 2 nodded excitedly and begin to search around. The Human opted to search Gaster’s desk, being careful not to wake him. Even though they felt a little guilty snooping through his things, it was probably the only way to get answers. Besides, it wouldn’t be the first time they did it either.
    ‘*You look through an assortment of books when you find a black book...it looks like a journal.’
     Flipping through the book, the Human read through pages of written research logs. It was, of course, written in Wingdings, but the Human just translated as they read along. They only weren’t able to read the entry numbers. At first, it was mostly recorded observation of the brothers but after a hundred or so pages, they begin to see themselves being mentioned every so often. Then, after even more pages, the journal would sometimes contain entries only about them. Nothing seemed to stand out to them. That is, until the Human got to a more recent entry.
     They couldn’t make out the log number, but it was most likely written today. It read:
Entry #???:
I’ve been feeling very strange lately. At first, I thought nothing of it as it was probably nothing. But it’s been getting stronger with each passing day. I can only conclude this is once again the Human’s doing. It’s different this time, though. I feel neither annoyed nor threatened. In fact, I’m not exactly sure what this feeling is. I want to try something with them but finding the right time will be difficult. Maybe when we’re alone perhaps? Whether this is the best choice or not is to be determined...
     The entry ended there. However, the Human reread it over a couple times. It was vague at best but at least he had no ill feelings towards them. It raised one more question, though. What did he want to try with them? They could possibly do like Gaster mentioned in the entry and have him be alone-
     Suddenly, the Human heard Gaster begin to stir. In a panic, they quickly closed the journal. They motioned for the brothers to hurry and the three of them rushed back to the testing room. The Human and the brothers managed to avoid getting caught albeit at the cost of losing their breath. Subject 1 even fell asleep as soon as he sat at the table. Gaster didn’t seem to suspect anything when he entered the room to start testing.
(Later)
    “Alright you three, it’s time to go back to your cell-”
    “*You ask Gaster if you could talk to him...alone.” ‘*He gives you a wary look.’
    “I would ask what you want but I have a feeling you’re going to be vague in your answer anyway...”
     After putting the brothers back in the cell, Gaster and the Human walked back to the testing room. The Human begin to explain that they were honestly worried about him lately and just wanted him to be okay. While they went on talking, Gaster had turned his head away. He was feeling mixed emotions about what he should do now. They were both alone but that didn’t make it any less nerve-wracking. Gaster could almost hear Alphys yelling at him for not taking the chance. Well, not this time.
    “*You’re in the middle of talking when Gaster suddenly pushes you against wall.”
     The Human looked up at him with a slightly scared expression. Gaster was taking deep breaths as if he was trying to will himself to do something. He finally open his eyes after repeated asking to do so. The two of them just stared for the longest time until the Human started to ask what was wrong. Gaster couldn’t take the tension anymore and lean in towards the Human.
     Unfortunately, he leaned in with too much force and ended up accidentally smacked his skull into theirs...hard. Gaster recoiled back from them, rubbing his slightly bruised face. He glanced at the Human and realized in horror that he had made their nose to start bleeding, causing them start crying. Gaster quickly reached into his coat pocket, pulled out a handkerchief, and handed it to the Human. They graciously took it and held it against their nose to stop the bleeding. There was an awkward silence between the two of them until Gaster spoke up.
    “That...didn’t go how I wanted it to...”
    “*You ask him what he trying to do.” ‘*He looks uncomfortable now...’
    “...Let’s just focus on patching you up, Human.”
     The bleeding had finally stopped but blood was still present on the Human’s face and hands. Gaster used a damp handkerchief to clean off the remaining blood. Thanking him, they repeated their question.
    “Well, Human...I need to confess something to you. For years, I’ve thought of myself as cruel and uncaring. With the War happening, getting trapped in the Underground, and then finally with Toriel leaving. I distanced myself from everyone I cared about away. But then I met you.”
     Gaster placed a hand on the side of their head. They said nothing and continued to listen.
    “I’m still not sure why you care for me like you do. I’ve tried deny your advances yet you continued to shower me with affection and gift in an attempt to gain my trust. When you confessed your feeling for me, I wasn’t sure how to react. I won’t lie by saying I never remember the first time you kissed me. That’s what I was trying to do, even though I have no lips...”
     The Human didn’t need to hear anymore. They pulled Gaster down to their height, a clearly determined look on their face. He was surprised by this sudden action as he stood face to face with them.
    “*You tell Gaster not to wait any longer and to just go ahead and kiss you.”
     He certainly didn’t wait as he tilted the Human’s head up and pressed his mouth against theirs. They wrapped their arms around his shoulders, deepening the kiss. They didn’t want to let go. They wanted this moment to go on forever. Eventually, the kiss was broken from the Human needing to breath. They panted lightly as they laid their head against Gaster’s chest. The Human smiled and looked up at him.
    “*You ask him what he thought about the kiss.”
    “Hmm...1-S was right. Humans are really squishy and soft.”
     ‘*You’re not sure how to respond to that, so you bring him in for another deep kiss.’
     The two of them chose to stay in each other’s company for the rest of the night. Gaster was relieved to know that he no longer had to run away from his feelings. The Human, however, was just glad he never found out they had gone through his things.
    “By the way, Human, do you happen to know why my work desk is disorganized?”
     Welp...
Note: Thank you everyone and especially you @randomstuff7739 for the wait while I work on this fic. It’s been a really hectic week with me preparing to go back to school next Monday. Thank you so much for reading! Requests are always welcomed! Stay tuned for more.
