Yknow what though?
My day wasn’t all bad tbh. I got everything I asked for for Christmas - all my Paris Hilton cookware stuff lol. The barista who I thought ghosted me texted me merry Christmas and now we’re talking about all the cool stuff we got. I guess there’s a Hozier concert in my area that my parents offered to buy me tickets for so I could go with my aunt and my cousin.
All in all - could be worse. With any luck I’ll get my blog back and if I don’t - guess it wasn’t meant to be. Nothing wrong with a fresh start I suppose.

Nice ass(k) day
HOW WAS HOZIER? Was it your first time seeing him? Did you buy any merch?
I typed out a long, ridiculous answer to this question, attached a video for your enjoyment, and didn't save it as a draft. Three guesses what happened.
But anyway.
HOZIER WAS GLORIOUS. It was my first time seeing him — I missed out on the pop up show at Metro in May, I was out of town for someone's wedding (I'm looking at you, @finnglas) for our two Wasteland, Baby shows, and Lollapalooza and I don't get along, so I missed him there, too.
Honestly, I thought this tour was going to go the same way. There's no one I know locally who loves him on that level, not enough to buy a ticket (and pay the ridiculous fees) for a Tuesday night show. Then I just said fuck it at two a.m. one night and decided to go by myself. I mean, when you're surrounded by thousands of fellow fans, are you ever really alone?
Best decision ever. It's a venue I really enjoy, open air and wedged between the lakefront and the beautiful sprawl of the Chicago skyline. I treated myself to a cushy (read: cushioned) seat in a VIP box with a private bar and lounge and bathrooms, and made friends with my rowmates, who were also there solo. The new album tours really well — one of the reasons I love live shows so much is that they always give me a new appreciation for a song that's flown under the radar; here that was To Someone From a Warm Climate, which made its live debut with a gorgeous origin story to go along with it (but also, in a weird way, it was Would That I, too — the crowd turned the chorus into a call-and-response that he seemed to feed off of, and it was one of those perfect concert moments when you get the sense that you're connected to countless other people over this one thing). And not only did he do Nina Cried Power, which I wasn't expecting at all, he did it as an actual duet with one of his phenomenal background vocalists (with all props and praise given to Mavis, of course).
Merch-wise, I got the Eat Your Young tee (in tan)! I do miss proper tour merch, though, with all the dates and cities spilling down your spine like an unspoken "I was there."
(That said, something about hearing First Time live hammered home the full, ridiculous beauty of its second verse — the bittersweet life cycle of a flower — so I'll likely grab this one, too.)
Aaaand this was still really rambly, I'm so sorry. 😂
As penance, have the opening of Francesca.

Bestie how would you rank the songs on the new Hozier album? And where does it land in terms of your rankings of his other two albums?
well, now that i've let it marinate for a month, i guess it's time to answer this ask lol.
now i wanna say before i get Controversial maybe...this i a no skip album for me. everything on it fucking slaps. i do not dislike a single song. all are great. have i gotten my point across?

Son of Nyx
Album Rankings:
Wasteland, Baby!
This is going to be tough to beat. I like Hozier a lot before this album, but it did something to me. Idk how to describe it. Plus, Shrike is on this album, and the second I head that one, I just had this feeling of 'Oh, I've been waiting for this song my whole life.' I also saw him tour with this album and it was a truly special experience. Sure, I have tickets to see him tour with UU, but uh. I might be giving brith when he comes to town lmao.
2. Unreal Unearth
Another perfect album. Stunning songs, great messages and themes are being explored. I love this shit. Though I gotta say...what the fuck was his team thinking with the vinyl designs??? the one I got looks like literal diarrhea lmao.
3. Hozier
I also love this one, but there are some skips for me (sometimes). And the music on this one doesn't connect with me as much as his next two.
