Hot Fuzz (2007), Dir. Edgar Wright, Starring Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost.
Big cops. Small town. Moderate Violence.
And here is the next entry in the Cornetto Trilogy Journal Entries series (C. T. J. E.’s for short), and this time (a little predictably), it’s the phenomenal and timeless Hot Fuzz!
For this entry, you can see I went all in with the b&w with one specific colour highlight visual motif, but for this one, instead of using weird halo-ish shadows like I did for Shaun, here I used a bunch of little lines, not only to imitate cross-stitching (which I think is lovely) but to also, admittedly a bit shittily, imitate the look of action comics, the ones where cops always fight the bad guys. I didn’t quite succeed but it isn’t hideous.
I’m honestly very happy with how this one turned out! Not quite the same charisma as Shaun, but still on theme and it’s cute.
Shaun was the birth of my fascination for everything Cornetto related, and Hot Fuzz was the consolidation.
While I was already excited to watch Shaun and had heard a fair deal about it, before finding out about the Cornetto Trilogy, I had NO idea hot fuzz existed, so when I did watch it, it had no reputation to precede it, I watched it entirely blind.
So, it actually surprised me how immediately I was captivated by it, the opening sequence where the narrator describes the sleuth of qualifications and achievements by Nic’s hand had me glued to the screen! And the scene where Nic is transferred to the countryside, man. I must have rewinded that scene so many times that I lost count!
I loved Hot Fuzz to death and I hadn’t even gotten to half of the halfway point.
Simon as Nic was nothing short of amazing, despite him being incredibly uptight and strictly law-abiding, I never once found him tiresome or arrogant, hell, the scene where Nic age checks all the minor patrons in the bar was one of my favourite in the entire film. And that scene where Nic is riding the train out of London and we constantly cut to “WELCOME” signs for various towns and Nic’s phone signal decreasing with each cut, that IS true filmmaking.
And then of course, Nic’s shenanigans once he arrives in town are incredibly entertaining, there’s a certain charm to him taking everything way too seriously while being offered cake, and being screamed at about how long the precinct will have ice cream for. And there’s even more magic when you realise that amidst all that quirk and tomfoolery, Nic and Danny are already starting to build something together.
I was absolutely enchanted by Danny asking Nic all those funny little questions about what it felt like to be stabbed, or if there really was a spot in the head where if you got shot your head would blow up, like a child would with his parents, and that immediately set me on the Butterangel train ngl.
(and then, oh my god, the quirky little side quests Nic got sent to with Danny, like the old man with the bomb in his shed, that Nic couldn’t understand due to his heavy country accent, or the bit with the goose, which obviously is immortal to this day).
Hot Fuzz obviously has a plot of its own, and that plot is absolutely amazing and the twists keep you on the edge of your seat, but it also is mainly about the relationship between Nic and Danny. And I found every single step of it charming and heartwarming! I remember actually squealing with excitement at every little step forward they each took towards opening up to each other, like Nic staying up all night with Danny to watch his favourite movies, or Nic winning Danny that plushie at the town fair, or the fucking FLOWER SHOP SCENEEEEE, I have truly never felt so touched by an *action* film before, even just remembering all those little details makes me smile :)
Hot Fuzz may be about a big town cop getting sent and adjusted to live in a small countryside town where nothing *appears* to happen, but it’s also about finding the little silver linings in those moments of life where you feel betrayed or let down, and maybe you’ll find more than a silver lining, you’ll find a little nugget of gold, like Nic found Danny, and like I found this movie.

Was rewatching some LWA today.
Yes I ship SuAkko. And I’m gonna talk about them
“Adventures in Sucyworld” oh my god these two are gay and have no idea, poor souls
- Episode starts with Sucy referring to Akko as “her” Guinea pig, which I don’t really need to go into how we’ve all taken that to mean. Like. “I need *a* Guinea pig” no Akko is *hers*
- Sucy doesn’t want Akko to leave her behind as evidenced by her noting she doesn’t want Akko to become “talented and powerful” and while this might be a reach I feel like Sucy felt it would be better for her to leave instead of watching Akko leave bc at least that’s something she *can* control, and if Akko never has the chance to reject her, it wouldn’t feel as painful if she’s the one who never gives her that chance
- Akko doing everything in her power to wake Sucy up <3
- The angel and Devil Sucys my beloveds
- Something kinda stuck out to me regarding Angel Sucy’s terms of helping Akko. “Do my laundry for a month” is one thing but “carry my books” and “do my shopping” sounds an awful lot like “I’d have loved to do laundry and taxes with you,” “I want you to carry my books like people who are crushing on others do” and “I want to hang out and do fun things together”
- Small Sucy being a manifeststion of Sucy wanting to show affection to others (not just romantic but in general)
- Sucy not allowing herself to feel anything else or pursue anything else and Akko barging in to say she should do what she wants was just <\3 my heart
- The sceneeee the movie sceneeeee Sucy sees her best moments with Akko being a gorgeously rendered anime whereas she sees most of everything else as a slapstick cartoon, as if she’s above all that. But for Akko? She slows down and wants to appreciate the moment, Fashionable moviegoer sucy said as much when she said that particular film was her favorite
- Llama Sucy just makes me smile
- grandma Sucy (?) was funny
- THE ENTIRE DRAGON SEQUENCE HELLO
- Sucy being like “no don’t kiss me this isn’t right I want this to be perfect” (yes I’m interpreting this with a bit of a stretch) in both the real and sucyworld
- my conclusion? Sucy wants someone to pine for her like in a cheesy high school rom com and she sees herself as the tough on the outside soft on the inside bad girl

lawlight rant (somewhat incoherent; the hyperfixation has got to me and needs to be let out of my brain)
lawlight is the BEST ship EVER i fuckn LOVE them so fuckn MUCH
They are both enemies and lovers. They aren't enemies TO lovers, they never will be, because the love that they have (and don't get me wrong, they definitely love each other) completely relies on the rivalry. They fell for each other because they were worthy opponents - the only opponents that have ever been worthy enough that they can provide a real challenge.
As soon as they get close, as soon as they can honestly trust the other, the mystery of the other person will be solved, the spell will be broken for them, and they are never going to be able to have an actual relationship.
this means that no matter what happens, they are pining for eternity until one or the other gets killed?!!?!?!?!??!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are completely obsessed with each other. It's very toxic; on the one hand we have a 25-year-old investigator, on the other hand we have an 18-year-old mass murder suspect with supernatural abilities who said investigator has fixated on despite no conclusive evidence that he is guilty. Their relationship should never ethically be allowed to happen. They both know this and neither of them care all that much.

They are going to destroy each other no matter what happens. The moment Light kills Lind L Tailor, there is nothing that either of them can do to alter their outcome. L kills Light first and Light's successors get to L later, or Light kills L first and L's successors get to Light later. It is just a matter of logistics atp. Both of the characters are obsessive and stubborn enough, and capable enough, that that initial promise - "I'm going to find and dispose of you if it's the last thing I do" - is going to be carried through to its bitter end.
(They don't find out that they actually quite like each other until significantly after this, of course.)
They can read each other in a way that nobody else can - they see the truth about each other - so their relationship is very intimate despite the fact that they never speak honestly with one another, except in the few hours leading up to L's death.

‘Even now the Heart of the Commonwealth is failing,’ Aurum rumbled, making Carnelian jump.
Understanding, Carnelian almost gasped. The God Emperor was dying. He watched his father’s hand rise up to make the sign for grief. The other Masters followed him. Carnelian hesitated then copied them. He stared at his hand, making sure the sign was well made. He was relieved when the others’ hands flattened to palms. Alone, his father kept his hand raised, but then he too let it go.

THE GRIEF SIGN SCENEEEEE 😀😀😀😀 (and interestingly, i was able to draw his hand in this pose in one go, truly destined!)
so first i wanted to make the grief sign a broken hand heart (like those kpop idols do) but that looked awful, then i thought a half heart, but it wasn’t too good either, then i thought, a half heart but inverted 😮🤔😄 doesn’t it just ooze sadness? it’s even over Sardian’s own heart
obviously, the inaccuracy here is that he’s facing the fire so the shadow should be back but i didn’t want to draw him again 😞😞😞😞 shhh, it’s okay. shadows also don’t look like that, but that’s a given 😙

I've always had a fascination towards vintage clothes, accessories and almost everything (1940s or 50s western). I feel like Peggy Carter and my husband is Steve Rogers cause he's pretty muscular and strong. Ughhh I love the fact that we both stan Captain America. ❤️💙❤️💙
We danced on "It's been a long, long time" on our wedding day just to recreate that sceneeeee.
Also on a side note, we dated just for a year before marriage but it feels as if we already knew each other. Oh God I love him so much. 💙😭
Idk why I'm posting these here but yeas I'm reminiscing on our love.
