An 'Early' Analysis of Chainsaw Man Chapter 138
Woah hey I'm back, I didn't feel like talking about the past few chapters cause I didn't feel like I had anything to add since they all seemed pretty straight forward. That being said this chapter gives me alot of talk about. So we get a name for Sex Offender Girl. Boy this woman only gets worse the more we learn about her. Mifune is quite literally a government plant in denji's high school.
Tumblr media
It's refreshingly disgusting the type of shit these girls will put denji through. It's like Fujimoto keeps trying to one up himself each time he introduces a new "love interest" (Mifune is not a love interest she is a sexual predator let's keep this 100% clear). Maki was a groomer, Mifune is just a straight up Pedophile. She is going to have such a satisfying death I can feel it. This chapter goes on to confirm a few things. First off, Yoshida is apart of Public Safety. Which sorta debunks a previous thought I had of him being apart of another group. I am interested to learn 1. What Divison 7 does 2. Which Division Yoshida is in Given we know 4 was the rejects and 5 are hybrids. My best guess is that Division 7 is a sort of Espionage/Intel Division. Yoshida likely also belongs to Division 7 unless he's got some silliness going on, Which is very likely. Actually- I just now realized something. She calls it "Special Division 7" not Division 7. Looking through the list of Division members on the Wiki, That Special Prefix is very important. The Special Divisions are all full of freaks and monsters. This Sex Offender is more than likely a monster all to her own if she's apart of a Division we've never even heard of.
Tumblr media
Public Safety is just as fucked up as actual governments. It's great.
Tumblr media
I hate that she's winning me over. I want this woman dead stop making me think she's silly. Fujimoto is really good at humanizing horrible people. It mirrors real life monsters who tend to blend in with society and even seem charming on the surface. Moving on from this fucking Sex Offender. Asa continues to be the realest character in the series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I doubt I even need to say anything about how real she is. Asa is a deeply disturbed and neglected person who's shut off from the world despite her own need to validation and recognition. She and Denji are different sides of the same coin. While she tries not to show it, The fulfillment she receives from praise seeps through. This scene specifically resonated with me a ton.
Tumblr media
I wish we got a better look into Denji's thoughts in this scene. I can't even really get a grasp on what he must be thinking through all of this. In the last few days he's lost a major part of himself and has been replaced in face by a fraud and in action by a girl who he was forced to dump by his sister. There was a moment here before the reveal on this very page where I was thinking Swords was someone else. It was clearly someone from Part 1. He had a hoodie so maybe it was Violence? But that couldn't be real Violence was killed by Darkness. WAIT- BEAM? No I couldn't be beam he's been dead aswell. The Chapter is called Swordman so then maybe it's Katana man's return? No he wouldn't be on speaking terms with Denji after his testicles got mashed. So then-
Tumblr media
Turns out it's the Longsword Hybrid from the end of Part 1. Yeah turns out he's alive. Which as many people have pointed out, Means the rest of the Hybrids are alive. So is Reze alive? Certain fans seem to think she is. At this point she seems to be the only match for Denji who isn't a complete psycho. But she still tried to kill him. But then Denji was still willing to run away with her at the end of the fight. If she does come back I hope she and Denji don't rush into a relationship, Let them chill for a bit before getting into anything serious Fujimoto please. If Reze really is alive I'll talk about her more in depth when she shows back up. But I need to say my peace.
Tumblr media
The Whip Hybrid is going to be insane popular and so many of them are going to be just as Horny as Anime-Only Makima fans. I hope Swords ends up being chill with Denji and not another dickhead who tries to kill him. Denji needs another Male friend who doesn't treat him like shit. His only known ""friend"" in part 2 is yoshida and we all know yoshida has not been treating him well.

Another thing I like about Chainsaw Man: It has "fanservice scenes" that aren't sexualized. Alright, hear me out, I have examples. (Some of which are light spoilers, but I'm pretty sure I talked around anything serious.)
"Flashback to a naked devil chick wandering around the wilderness with a cat" sounds like a fanservice scene...but the framing of the panels/shots, the visible parts of Power, and the fact that Makima hadn't started hosing her down every other week means that it's not sexy.
"Said devil chick takes a bath with the main character" definitely sounds like a fanservice scene...but the framing, Power's emotional state, and Denji's lack of reaction (despite being an infamous horndog) means that it's not sexy.
"Mostly-human (it's complicated) chick turns her school uniform into a sword and fights a devil in her underwear" sounds like a fanservice scene, and it definitely comes closest out of these. You can clearly see sexy bits like her chest and midriff, for instance. But Asa isn't fighting in sexy poses, the panels focus on the action rather than trying to make her sexy, and of course it isn't long before she's splattered in devil blood.
Now, let's clarify what I'm saying. I'm not saying nobody could find these scenes sexy; I don't think it's possible to create such a scene. And I'm obviously not saying CSM never has fanservice scenes; Quanxi and her (harem? polycule? squad?) have multiple...lesbian orgy panels?* framed in a sexual manner. What I'm saying is, it's obvious that the orgy panels were drawn sexy for a reason, because they're contrasted with an extended sequence of a very un-sexualized naked Power.
Fanservice scenes are omnipresent—not just in Japanese media, but in the West, too. As a sex-repulsed asexual, this is very obvious to me in a way I assume it isn't for most people...but as someone who exists in the same world as all you allosexuals, I've grown numb to it unless it's really obvious. I'm used to artists in a visual medium leveraging any scene where an adult woman partially disrobes for titillating viewers who are into that, and I've made my peace with that. Fuck, I'm not even surprised when artists do that with sexual violence or minors or whatever. It's a bad thing, but it's a fact of life.
And here we have Tatsuki Fujimoto, with scenes of naked or near-naked women which aren't sexualized. And I'm pretty sure† it's not just my ace brain not recognizing what heterosexual boys are expected to like about the scene, or some artistic or technical deficiency obscuring the intent, because look at Quanxi.
Power being naked in the wilderness could have been sexualized, but it was just a signifier that she's wild and uncivilized. Power being emotionally vulnerable in the bath could have been sexualized, but it was just a signifier of that vulnerability. Asa stripping off her uniform to use it as a weapon could have been sexualized, but it was just a signifier of her desperation.
* Hell, even the Quanxi orgies have a purpose beyond titillation. She's obviously a foil for Denji, living the life he thinks he wants. The scenes with her fiends emphasize the lust that she and Denji share. It's not a creative decision I'm 100% comfortable with, but Quanxi's sexuality is obviously not just an attempt at shoehorning some lesbian sex into the manga to draw in horny teenaged boys.‡
In a world with so much female nudity thrown in for mere fanservice, I feel like it's worth pointing out artists who do better. Mangaka don't need to write pure Christian stories without anything vaguely sexy in them to appease us social justice warriors; they just need to have a point beyond sex appeal when they draw naked women. And it doesn't have to be a deep point! It just has to exist!
-
† Though not certain—part of me expects to hear back from people who're confused about how someone could think those scenes weren't sexualized.
‡Why are straight dudes into lesbians, anyways? Is that weird? It seems weird.
BELATED EDIT: Of course, right before this popped off my queue, chapter 110 had to have some panels of Asa's de-uniformed body that feel like they were framed for fanservice. I thought that it was a Denji's-gaze sort of thing and it would lead to his horniness driving him to do something, but it didn't really?
It could still be a Denji's-gaze thing and not a bog-standard male-gaze thing, but the only reason I'm giving this possibility any weight is the previous 109 chapters.

Just an idea:
The Blue Night is sadly remembered by many families, like the Suguros or the Miwas, but is glorified by the mob world as an undenaible victory on True Cross Police. In one single night a man alone slaughtered numerous officers and innocents, but what makes this event a tragic milestone of the city's story is that the killer was never found and the motive never ascertained.
There were suspects of course, in particular a 30 y/o circa man, Shiro Fujimoto, seemed to corrispond with the facial composite and he had police records too, but nothing too serious. His sudden disappearence, followed by the discover of the corpse of a woman who probably died giving birth, later identified as Yuri Egin, in the last place Fujimoto was seen didn't help his case, but the police couldn't arrest him for lack of proofs.
Anyway, the killer vanished for not being seen again and so did Fujimoto, the case was filed as "unsolved" but a question remained: what happened to Yuri's presumed child (or children)?
15 years later, Rin and Yukio became two splendid and beloved teens and even if life was never easy for them, they were happy. Fujimoto lived with his sons in a narrow flat in the cheapest part of the city, always wipeout but he made sure they didn't miss anything. Including a method of self-defense: in fact, he teached Rin how to use sidearms and Yukio how to use firearms.
Criminals flourished in the suburbs and you could easily disagree with the choice of letting children live there, but, in Fujimoto's defence, he didn't have the money for anything else.
Fujimoto still regrets introducing his kids at that world so early in their life.
Rin never had such academic achievements due to his instable temper, that led him engaging streetfights almost daily, and his suspected dyslexia. When Rin seemed to be a natural culinary talent, Fujimoto concentrated his efforts in assuring that his boy had everything he could possibly need for working in a respectable restaurant.
On the other hand, his twin Yukio was what's called a prodigy and his intelligence and predisposition to study allowed him to receive numerous scholarships in order to persue his scolastic path. When Yukio expressed his desire to become a doctor, Fujimoto swore to himself that he would have done everything to bring in the money for the university taxes.
His children would lead the lives of their dreams, Fujimoto would make sure of that.
Their peace was abruptly interrupted in one single night, like 15 years before. The killer of the Blue Night wandered in their city for a while at that point and wasn't hard for Fujimoto understanding why he was there. When the killer showed up at their door, demanding for his children, Rin and Yukio were already forced to hide away and warned to be silent by Fujimoto. The killer didn't give up and after knocking out Fujimoto with a stab at the stomach, he began his searching. Rin tried to exit the wardrobe to help his father, but Yukio held him back.
That short fight condamned them. Inevitably, they were found.
As the wardrobe door opened, Rin darted the killer while shouting at Yukio to run away, but he was defeated with no real effort before they could do anything. Wrathful, the killer lifted the knife up, ready to stab, and when everything seemed lost, Fujimoto pushed on with a last drill of adrenaline and desperation and took the shot in place of Rin. He couldn't allow his children to die before they had even begun to live.
Rin could only helplessly watch his father being cold-hearted killed just before him.
Yukio, always the most rational of the duo, saw their father's sacrifice as their last chance of escape and, dragging a shocked Rin, he ran in the dark night, leaving everything he knew behind forever.
That killer's actions affected so many lives and each one reacted in a different way. Ryūji Suguro thrived on determination to restore his temple, in which many adepts lost their lives during the Blue Night, and joined the True Cross Police and soon became a talented detective. Konekomaru Miwa, an orphan from the Blue Night, escaped the God-forsaken orphanage where he was imprisoned helplessly for 16 years and decided to sell his coding skills in order to raise more money than those he received working as a waiter at such young age. With time he became skilled in hacking too and with those abilities he wanted to find his parents' killer and hopefully, finally having peace knowing they had justice, that's why he left that damned orphanage.
The turning point in Konekomaru's research didn't accure until he turned 21, when he met Ryūji at the bar Konekomaru worked in. The two drew close and then Ryūji told Konekomaru about "The Imitator" Case he was working on. Konekomaru decided to find more about this "Imitator", hoping to get more informations to trace the original killer. He met Rin and Yukio this way.
The night of their escape they swore revenge against that man, more like a monster in their opinion and for this they nicknamed him "Satan". Rin and Yukio knew that Satan was after them, even if they didn't know why, and they took this as their advantage: they would draw him where they wanted him to be and then kill him just like he killed their father. There was a single problem: Satan vanished again. Until the moment he would show up, they only had to continue to live. But living as fugitives was hard and they had to juggle between a job and another to raise enough money to afford a tiny flat to live in. After a few years of living this way, the twins lost patience and decided to provoke him in order to motivate him to sneak out of wherever he was. They recreated his crimes but adding their sign: a burning cross with a phrase directed to Satan written on whatever surface with a liquid a bit too similar to blood. It has to be said that the twins never killed anyone. They only kidnapped their victims, so they assured a big profit with the ramson they demanded to the victims' families and the "ink" for their signature too. For this the police called the case "The Imitator".
Among the criminals of the city, many didn't approve twins' actions and tried to find and kill them (with poor results), so they could continue their affairs without always being observed by the police, but overall they didn't want to have anything to do with Blue Night's killer, now publicly known as "Satan", too scared to simply name him. Many others supported the twins, instead. After a couple of years the twins created a good net of acquaintances and they were nicknamed as "Exorcists" by those who knew their aim.
When Konekomaru faced them fearless and making clear his intentions of joining them, Rin and Yukio were shocked that he actually found them and by his audacity. They accepted him after hearing his motivations tho. With the Exorcists, Konekomaru could investigate about twins's past and their connection to Satan and Shiro Fujimoto with descreet freedom, in exchange Konekomaru offered his skills for everything they asked. Konekomaru even answered all Rin's questions about the handsome detective assigned to their case.
With all the informations he could need in mind, Rin approached Ryūji, covering all of his face except his hypnotic blue eyes by night and hiding them behind sunglasses blaming high photosensitivity by day. And somehow it worked. Rin knew two versions of Ryuji and he was madly in love with both, just like Ryūji knew two faces of Rin and fell hard for both, not like he knew that the two boys were the same person and all his pining and guilt sensations were in vain. It could seem that Rin was just playing around and maybe at the beginning he was, but time passed and he developed a sincere love for the grumpy yet serious detective, although it was threatened by this double-life Rin himself created.
He wanted to conquer Ryūji's heart for who he really was, no more secrets, no more lies (Ryūji hated them), no more hiding, but how could he when he was a wanted criminal and his crush was on his traces? When he was the spawn of the man that ruined Ryūji family's life? Rin couldn't just expect that Ryūji would accept him so easily when truth would come out. No, Ryūji surely would be mad at him and hurted by Rin's actions and wanted to have nothing to do with him again and their interactions would be limited at interrogations and threatens from one side to the other of Rin's prison cell.
So, Rin continued to play this dangerous game: at night Rin would offer to the reluctant detective a romantic dinner on the panoramic terrace of the most luxurious restaurant of the city (the owner owed him a favor) and at day Rin would bring home-made lunchboxes to the grumpy punk who likes spending his freetime studying languages in the library.
And hoped that this happy moment last long.

Background: Atsuko Suzuki grew up in a single child household.  Her mother and father were not very wealthy and could not provide for her.  They sent her away to live in a village at the foot of a mountain when she was 10.  While she was away, a demon had killed her parents.  She never found out about this.
Atsuko lived in the village, helping an elderly woman take care of younger kids.  It was a peaceful time for her.  2 years had passed when two new children came to live in the village.  Atsuko had assumed they were there because their parents could not afford to take care of them, but she found out the truth after talking to the boy her age.  While the kids had not trusted her at first, she did her best to help care for them.
3 years had gone by when the boy, Makoto, declared that he was leaving to become a demon slayer.  Atsuko could only watch as he argued with his sister, Amaya, about it before storming off.  She hoped that something like this wouldn’t happen again; she didn’t want any more of her family to leave and head off into danger.  However, that hope had shattered when Amaya announced that she was leaving too.
Atsuko wore a fake smile when Amaya had returned from Final Selection, saying that she was going to be away from the village for awhile.  The bi haired girl left the village a few months later in search of the siblings.  She wanted to bring them back home so their family could be complete again.  However, she did not run into either one.  Thinking her options were gone, Atsuko trained to be a demon slayer under the Flower Hashira at the time.
Passing Final Selection had been harder than she expected, but she was relieved to have been able to survive.  When Atsuko returned to the village, she was met with the scent of blood.  The elderly woman she had lived with had been killed.  She asked the villagers what had happened, and she was shocked to hear that one of the Kawaguchi siblings had murdered the elderly woman.
Refusing to accept this, Atsuko left to search for answers.  Once her nichirin blade arrived, she left the village without another word.  Eventually, she ran into the newly appointed Snow Hashira during an assignment.  The bi haired teen tried to talk to her, but received silence as an answer.  Atsuko soon got the answers she was looking for from the crow that traveled with Amaya.  The elderly woman had been killed by one of the other kids who had become a demon.
Taisho Secret(s):
Contrary to what people think, Atsuko’s hair color is actually natural.  A rumor is going around on how that is possible.
Atsuko grew up thinking that her appearance was freaky, making her insecure about herself.  She grew more confident when someone complimented how she looked.  Since then, she has never been afraid of talking to other people about fashion choices.
Atsuko blames herself for the death of her caretaker.  She believes that if she had never left, Eri would have never become a demon.
Relationships:
Amaya Kawaguchi - “If only she would talk to me again, then I can understand how she is feeling.”
Kasumi Shimizu: “While her kindness is appreciated, I think she needs to be more strict with everyone.”
Makoto Kawaguchi: “I have no idea what he is doing now…”
Misaki Fujimoto - “She seems friendly enough.”
Ren - “She is… interesting.  Ren-chan can be a very different person at any time.”
Sayuri Yukimura - “Sayuri-chan is a good friend of mine!  We talk sometimes!”
Yuka Yukimura - “A little sweetheart.  But… she has a little too much energy.”
Yoshi Yukimura - “Learning manners is a must for him!”
Yusuke - “He makes some questionable choices… too questionable.”
Kiku Inoue - “What an annoying brat!”
Eri Mori: “I never talked to her much, but I did help take care of her.”

Abel and Cain Chapter 2
Izumo will play a huge role in this story eventually. A lot of the dark Teen movies like Cruel Intentions, Heathers , a certain TV show with dragons and the Craft inspired this story. Yes, Rin is not hundred percent innocent folks and you are all in for a terrible shock here.  Both Okumura bros are batshit here just a fair warning. Some pretty dark and disturbing stuff guys.
YUKIO POV
I walk into the room to find it completely vacant. Heck Kuro is nowhere to be seen. I heave a sigh of relief because it meant one thing; either Mephisto took that bastard away or some Exorcists came for him. Either way I am glad that he is nowhere to be seen because what I am about to carry out is very dangerous and disturbing and Rin being Rin would get triggered by it thanks to how hyperemotional and sensitive he is.
Met Izumo on the way who came looking for Rin which I find highly surprising. Isn’t she supposed to be this cold, detached, high and mighty bitch who puts herself above others and only cares for that weak friend of hers. What is her name? Oh yes Paku. Yet here is Kamiki having some concern for my foolish brother. But then again, I have always noticed how flustered she acts whenever Rin was around. Which means that my hypothesis of her is true. Kamiki does have a crush on Rin. But that goes beyond that. She seems to be very understanding and sympathetic of the guy, lashing out at anyone that dares to make fun of him. Still I do not see her as a threat yet. Just an annoying little ant that can be dealt with eventually.
Anyway, I get out of the room and head off to the one place that Rin and no one in particular knows nothing about and that is my secret sanctuary, a special lab that I created in the another block of the dorm that no one knows about.
Yes I am kinda like Batman but worse because I do not care about humanity or anyone. I only care about serving my own needs. And in order to do so without anyone knowing, I have to control stuff behind the scenes.
I power up the computer system and sit and wait for it to boot. Once that is done, I then begin to connect to a secret database only I know. From there, I hook myself to the camera I have installed in Shura’s home. That’s right. I secretly installed in Shura’s home to keep a good eye on the bitch and monitor her every move. I now know her every move and now it is time to act.
“Everything ready boys?” I say into the microphone. Beelzebub then whines. “I still do not see any use in any of this shit.” I simply roll my eyes. Beelzebub is even more cowardly than both Amaimon and Rin combined and that is saying something.
“Quit your complaints and do your job.” I command him. Iblis then says “Pay him no attention boss.” I hear some scrapping which means that Iblis must have hit him. Thank God for Iblis. At least we have one competent Demon King that is hands on in more ways than one. I think you are getting the picture here.
I watch as the duo make their way to Shura’s place, masking their presence from her. Shura was in her bathroom having her bath. I smirk evilly at this. This should be easy if Shura does not put up a fight that is.
 RIN POV
“Let me get this straight. Not only were you an A-star student back in the day but also you were the IT boy?” Amaimon asked. I simply grin and nod at that. The ride of our destination has been enjoyable so far as all four of us have been chatting, mostly saying nasty stuff about Yukio hence the current subject of discussion.
“Boy do I miss being on top and having people kiss up my ass.” I smirk fondly at the memories. Mephisto simply chuckles. “Kissing up your ass? And in what way?” My evil smirk gets nastier. “I try to play nice and all but when the situation calls for it, I play bitches like a giant chess board, moving the pieces the way I want.”
That’s right folks. Rin Okumura, or at least the Rin that you thought you knew was not and still isn’t a complete innocent ball of sunshine. No. The real Rin is a lot more darker than that. You are talking about a boy that lost his virginity at a young age. Do not ask me the age. Not only did I get high grades that were higher than all the shit Yukio brags about currently but also, I was the quintessential bad boy of the hood that everyone and I mean EVERYONE wanted to be like and wanted to date. And boy did I shag a load of people along the way. Way more than Yukio.
If teachers gave me grades I did not want, I would wait till everyone else is gone, corner the teacher and seduce them into giving me what I wanted. Oh yes, I was that bad of a person and I miss being a  bad boy.
Yukio thinks he’s the shit but guess what? I was and will always be that bitch. That benchmark he aspires to reach but can never quite get to. Yukio and I do not have and never had a picture perfect brotherly relationship.
The mere thought of being friends with that imbecile sickens me. He is the true pathetic loser here not me. The true difference between Yukio and I is that I try to play nice with everyone except him. He is a total jerk to everyone and has always been since day one though I will admit that his acting has sort of gotten better.
I act nice and can be nice. However like everyone else, I do have a dark side which I reserve for those that piss me off. I can be cold, calculating and manipulative when the need arises, something that Yukio clearly has forgotten about. Yukio and I have been having this rivalry ever since we were kids over every little thing. Whenever Father Fujimoto or the other priests were around, we would act like normal kids who would play with each other.
But when none of them were around, we would immediately turn on each other. Our fights were vicious back then. I remember throwing knives at Yukio’s head and Yukio doing the same to me. Yes we have always hated each other as kids but hid it well enough.
It got to a point that that whiny pussified bitch Yukio went to report me to Father Fujimoto, accusing me of bullying him. Funny since I was out with my friends when he reported me to Dad. I got grounded and that was when the bitch blackmailed me into downgrading myself for him. Big mistake. Now after years of humiliation at his hands, I want that bastard to suffer for every single shit that he has done to me. And I will gladly make sure of that of course.
We soon arrive at our destination which was this massive black gothic like mansion. Said mansion from the outside was so large, kinda like a little luxurious castle shaped like the letter U with dark grey bricks. There was a large oak tree by the left. I glare at Mephisto. “Someone sure loves to live fancy huh?” I say. Mephisto simply laughs. “Oh come on. You can’t blame me now can you? I love luxury and therefore must surround myself with it at all costs.”
I snort. “Touché.”
We then get out and walk into the house. I take the time to look around. The mansion was so massive and clean with dark gothic décor all over the place, starting from the chandelier. And the exquisite furniture. I feel most at peace with this shockingly. Must be my inner demon.
“This will be your new home kiddo.” Says Mephisto. I simply grins. “Ah this is more like it.” At that moment, a butler, who seems to be an elderly male demon with white hair and demon horns sticking out of his head dressed in a black suit walks into the room. “Haruto please show Rin to his room.” Mephisto instructs the butler who nods and motions to me which I do.
NORMAL POV
Shura hums as she gets out of the shower, drying her hair with a towel. The past couple weeks have been stressful thanks to Rin’s situation. She does not blame Rin for his actions. If anything, it was bound to happen anyway. However she would have preferred a far more pleasant situation. She can understand how the others feel in regards to Rin’s Satanic lineage especially if one considers the Blue Night and its terrible aftermath.
Regardless, Rin is such a nice guy deep down and does not deserve the shit people are throwing at him. She and Izumo are the only ones so far that still care and like Rin despite his lineage. Ironically she and Izumo have been having private conversations and in fact, it was she that told Izumo to go fetch Rin so that they would take him off campus. But it seems someone had already beaten them to it.  Definitely Mr Pheles.
It was then that she stops in her tracks as she feels a very powerful presence in the room. Tch….demons.
Before she could dash over to grab her sword which was in her bedroom, Iblis flash steps behind her and opens his mouth, spewing out a mouthful of flames at the lady, causing her to fall back and groan in pain. She tries to get up but Beelzebub grabs Shura and throws her so hard in the wall that she feels her spine crack. Shit….
Both demons exchange evil smirks before taking it in turns to beat up and straight up torture her, making her groans turn into screams.
Yukio meanwhile watches this sickening act with glee, letting out a psychotic evil laugh. “Now this is a wonderful piece of beauty right there!”
Once they were done, the demons disappear from the scene, leaving Shura’s bloodied corpse behind. Hours later, Izumo arrives to meet up with Shura but lets out a blood curling scream once she sees the horrible mess that lay before her.
Meanwhile, Mephisto and the others were eating their dinner which was a massive buffet of various human food, obviously out of consideration for Rin. Rin would have to admit. Haruto is a pretty good cook though he doubts he would be able to beat him in that department. At that moment, Mephisto’s phone rings. Sighing, the Demon King of Time pulls out the phone and picks the call. “What now?” he says in an irritated tone.
Once the caller on the line tells him what had happened, Mephisto’s eyes widened in shock. “WHAT?!” Rin lifts up his head. Whatever this is, it has to be serious. Once he was finished with the call, Mephisto sighs. “What happened Mephisto?” Rin asked.
“I’m afraid we have to return back to True Cross. Something bad just happened.” Astaroth glares at their brother. “Will you quit beating about the bush and get straight to the point here?!”
Mephisto nods and then says, “I’m afraid to say this Rin but I was just informed that Shura your teacher is dead…..”
Rin feels the world around him collapse. “T-That’s impossible….no….” Mephisto sighs and nods, a grim expression on his face. “Unfortunately it is true. She was apparently attacked by some powerful demons who are yet to be identified.”
Rin then clenches his hand as tears flow down his eyes. Astaroth hugs his younger brother whilst Amaimon gently pats his shoulder. “Any ideas who could be attacker anuie?” Amaimon asked. “I wouldn’t know till we get to the crime scene.” he says. Rin then wipes his tears and then says in a low angry tone, “Whoever it is that killed Shura, that person shall be destroyed…”
Yet another cliffhanger. I know. Don’t get mad at me folks. So what do you think?

Do It Two ‘Em || GFS END III
Tumblr media
“Soooo…” Momotori starts, “I guess you guys are goin’ through your rebellious stage now, huh? I guess it’s natural! Teenage angst with all of the sneaking, around and gossipin’, and talkin’ about crushes? Our eagle eyes catch a lot, so we know you guys have been gettin’ maybe a little too comfy here~!”
The bird coos out to the gathered group, a dangerous glint in their eyes.
Tumblr media
“Don’t worry though! It just takes a swift correction to knock all of those silly ideas right out’ve your head! Though, before we get to the fun part - let’s announce our lucky winner!”
The judges waltz up to Mickey, pulling a box out from behind the three of them removing the top, the It Girl is presented with a [Custom Outfit Voucher] ! On the back, it notes how giving this to Ubasti will enable to giver to receive a custom made outfit just for them! With a couple of cheerful congratulations, the Judges return to their panel.
“Glad that’s out of the way! Now, on the matter of punishments…”
Momotori flicks their wing, causing three names to be displayed on a screen emerging behind them.
Red, Adeyaka, and Izumi
Tumblr media
“It seems you guys have really gotten brazen, haven’t you?”
Miryo-ke’s mechanical, grating laughter echoed.
.
“You know what happens when you drag your feet! Your end you’ll meet… or something like that. Maybe not aaaaas dramatic at the moment, but all of you are in for it. We’ll get to see what happens when you refuse to participate in a Group Fashion Show, hm?”
On a tri-colored wheel, each of the three names are displayed. With a frivolous pose from the judges, the arm in the center spins rapidly to decide the victim.
After a moment, the endpoints to [ IZUMI FUJIMOTO ] !
“Guess you’re our lucky ‘winner’ Fujimoto-san~! It’s okay, we have something just right for you!”
Without much warning, the three Judges literally spring towards the Musical Actor. So fast, in fact, that the boy is slammed clear onto his back. With a struggle and some cries coming from the oddly plush pile, it’s only a couple of minutes before the three mascots step away - seeming rather proud of their work.
Izumi is laying there in a daze with a thin, metal ring fastened around his neck. Miryo-ke made a show of gesturing at the device and mimed talking with a paw as they spoke.
Tumblr media
“You know what’s dearest and most valuable to nyall? All that can be taken away in the blink of an eye. Like Zuzu-kun here, I bet he’s furryous to know that this here collar is about as bad as a nasty sore throat. ‘s long as he’s wearing it… no talking, no singing, zip! All thanks to that Tacet Collar. Ahh, it’ll be so much more peaceful in here~!”
Tumblr media
“That’s more like it! Now, just one more order of business before we can move on with our final announcement~!”
What else was there to do? The way the Mascots grinned at each other in those moments was unsettling before they turned to you, a mischievous gleam in their robotic eyes.
Tumblr media
“We can’t have you guys forgetting your place! Some of you have been very bad as of late, y’know… So, we might as well give you another example - since Huang-Dummy wasn’t a good enough!”
From the back of the room, a sharp cry comes from a familiar voice. As you all turn, you catch sight of Mamoru - the caped security bot - hovering with their back to the crowd. After a moment, the bot turns to begin making their way across the floor. With one disembodied hand gripping her hair and a another firmly clentching her button up, you all lay witness as Mina is literally dragged to the front of the room. In her desperate attempts to free herself from their grasp, she doesn’t notice the end of the stage transforming.
Neither you or Mina are left with much time to process this turn of events. In the next moment, the chaperone finds her shoes just barely scraping the ground as Mamoru holds her above the edge of a trap door.
“Mina-chan has been the worst of yous, we have t’ say! Between her snooping in the computer and helping you guys hide your little ghost friends from us - she seems like a good candidate, wouldn’t you say?”
Tumblr media
“W-Wha- N-No! Stop that!!”
The scientist isn’t in much room to struggle, as she’s instead left pathetically gripping onto Mamoru’s metallic hand.
Tumblr media
“P-Please-!”
Tumblr media
“Uh-uh~! No whining, Mina-chan! It hurts my ears!!” The bird squawks loudly, chuckling a moment later. “Both action and inaction has consequences, so you can thank your lovely little friends for this!”
For a moment, the former Social Roboticist glances at you all with a pleading, pain-filled look - despite knowing there was nothing any of you could do for her. There’s another attempt by her to stammer something out before she drops backwards unceremoniously.
Within a second, she’s gone. The trap door slams shut with a fatal CLANG.
“Bye-Bye, Mina-chan~!”

Let’s talk about Astaroth for a sec
Because I find it way, way, way too freaking suspicious that he was the first demon king to appear, and then...poof. He’s gone, completely out of the picture. (well, until the arrival/revival of the Impure King, which is as close to Astaroth as we get in later chapters.)
TL;DR: Astaroth is just sketchy as f in this case, and there’s a lot of implications that he could be a bigger, far less seen bad guy than we yet know. Also a little bit of crack theory on Astaroth and Rin’s first meeting and how it’s a bit strange that, now knowing where Astaroth stands in the ranks, he would seemingly go out of his way to make sure Shiro didn’t interfere.
...Which is super suspicious, because as we know, he’s on Lucifer’s side - and furthermore, has intense loyalties to Satan, it would seem.
Which makes sense, given his mythology. Astaroth is depicted as a rather loyal, (and frankly obsessive) demon, who, when summoned, will obey his summoner without a lot of strife, provided that they offer him the right kind of incentive. Which isn’t hard, because he’s basically the demonic embodiment of the sin of Greed and Avarice (like envy mixed with greed).
But wait just a second.
Think about that.
He obeys and is loyal to his (even human) masters, and it doesn’t take much to persuade him to do stuff.
Now, I don’t have any evidence at all to back this up, but I strongly suspect that Lucifer intended for that confrontation between Astaroth, who is just coincidentally weak to fire type attacks, and Rin at the beginning of the manga. Why?
To see if Rin had A) awakened his demon powers, B) test how strong they were with the sixth king of Gehenna (who is stronger than Amaimon, a demon who, mind ye, Rin still isn’t strong enough to defeat, or so he’s under the impression of) or C) to test if Rin had the right personality to be easily manipulated or persuaded (which, if you recall, Astaroth did try to coerce him in a relatively gentlemanly manner, even if he was being a jerk at the same time...which is actually accurate to his mythology for once).
Now, that unto itself would not be super surprising to me, since Lucifer clearly wants Satan to have a vessel -- and so, I suspect, does Astaroth (with his apparent loyalties to Satan, it would make sense that the only reason he would be on Lucifer’s side in the first place would be to ensure his beloved Father get’s to have a body) and furthermore, seems to be aiming for the twins in order to obtain that.
But where I start to wonder is how, exactly, Astaroth ended up there in the first place, and why. (we’ll come to those details after a little info-dump on Astaroth as a character because...nerd.)
I mean, it’s possible that Lucifer just told him where Rin would be, but I have a feeling that his seemingly spontaneous possession of that bully boy wasn’t spontaneous at all, and that it certainly wasn’t random. (we’ll get back to that)
Tumblr media
Clearly, that boy and Rin had a bit of beef with each other -- enough to disturb that boy to the point where his soul and heart weakened enough to let fucking Astaroth in.
However, there’s something that always unsettled me about that scene, because Astaroth is, in strange mythological fashion, a rather well behaved demon (or demoness, depending on who you ask) that is not exactly peaceful, but does not generally go out of his way to start shit with people. In point of fact, he’s depicted as a little bit of a coward and/or pacifist, though he has a silver tongue to beat all silver tongues apparently and can usually talk his way out of a conflict or else resolve someone else’s if they’re in a bind.
Now, Katou is not well known for sticking to mythology, but damn does it seem super weird to me that a demon that well known for being anti-conflict would jump into the middle of, what? A fight? One that’s not even his?
Hm....
I guess it could be argued that that was just the best opportunity there was -- but it also raises a vital question about whether or not Astaroth has a clone body, since that scene, as well as his continual absence therein, implies that he either doesn’t have one somewhere, or that he’s intentionally being left out of one.
Now, why would he do that? So that he can come and go as he pleases, of course, and possibly be a superbly camouflaged spy hiding among the Order.
Like I said, I have no evidence to support this, but I find it just too weird that first, Astaroth appears to...negotiate, with Rin, and then just like that, he’s gone (technically killed, yes, but that never stopped a king so far) and there’s absolutely no trace of him anywhere.
Now, as for his not so spontaneous appearance...
The time and place of his reveal are just...too awkward. And I don’t mean in the teen-legginess kind of way.
Tumblr media
It’s late, Rin is relatively far from home, and by that measure, it’s implied that the paladin, Shiro, should not be able to find him that easily if at all (which clearly didn’t work out). So it can be implied that he was avoiding Shiro, somehow, on purpose.
But why should he?
Unless Shiro Fujimoto somehow earned a seriously bad rap among the Kings (possible with the things we have seen so far), a demon of Astaroth’s rank, and certainly his silver-tongued abilities, should not have the crap scared out of him by a Paladin to the extent that he would actively try to hide as far and as securely from him as possible.
Unless he wasn’t the one hiding.
I feel like, given Astaroth’s cowardice, Lucifer probably wouldn’t have trusted him to be there alone, provided Astaroth was working under Luci’s orders.
So who else was there, if anyone?
Hm....I have many, many questions now...

New Releases 6/27/17
Happy New Release Day! This weeks consists of robots in space, everyday life of a fledgling superhero, a trip across Europe, a power called Geass, a class made of assassins, and more.
In Books --The Adventures of a Superhero Girl by Faith Erin Hicks “What if you can leap tall buildings and defeat alien monsters with your bare hands, but you buy your capes at secondhand stores and have a weakness for kittens?” The everyday tales of a super girl as she saves people, as she updates her family on how she is doing, and as she tries to keep a part-time job but forgets to remove her mask before work. With an arch-nemesis who’s only superpower is letting our hero know she is doing the superhero thing wrong. This particular version of this graphic novel is a expanded edition. It was originally printed in 2013 but has been reprinted a few times since. This edition will include two new stories and new art. I have never read it before but I really wanna give it a try.
--Descender volume 4 by Jeff Lemire, artist Dustin Nguyen One day giant robots appear out of nowhere bringing death and destruction across the galaxy. As a consequence all robots are now outlawed and are hunted and destroyed by bounty hunters. Ten years after the attack an android named Tim-21 awakens to find his home destroyed and the human boy he was bought for gone. Tim sets out to find his human along with his robot dog and a mining droid. But Tim will be hunted down as his robot DNA might just reveal how to defeat the giant robots if they ever return. I love this series. This is probably my favorite release for this week. I started reading this series early this year. It is very good and the art is amazing. Dustin Nguyen did a wonderful job with the watercolor. There’s a great cast of characters but Tim is probably my favorite character. I would definitely check it out. I recommend it to everyone that I help in the graphic novel section at work. If you love robots, robots in space, and the exploration into what defines being human (there’s rogue robots who just want to live instead of being destroyed and will fight back) then read Descender.
--The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee I first wrote this down to research it because I was imagining the worst. I was thinking something along the lines of, ‘they are not publishing a book that says treating women in such a way is okay’. But then it became so much better. Henry Montague’s days of pleasure and vice; with both men and women, are rapidly coming to an end. His father is going to force Henry to start taking care of the family estate. As a final hurrah, Henry invites his best friend and secret crush; Percy, to travel across Europe with him. When one of Henry’s reckless decisions sends him and Percy into a manhunt it will have Henry questioning everything he knows. Including his thoughts about the boy he secretly adores.  The description of this book did not go at all the way I was expecting. I’m really excited to give this a try. I love everything about it already. As long as it doesn’t end up supporting treating people like crap, basically.
--Land of the Lustrous volume 1 by Haruko Ichikawa The Lustrous are crystalline lifeforms; each gem has unique powers, who are hunted by a group called lunarians who would turn the Lustrous into decorations.  I mostly want to read this cause I immediately thought of Steven Universe when I read the description.
--The Waking Land by Callie Bates Lady Elanna Valtai is fiercely devoted to her King who raised her like a daughter. But when he mysteriously dies, Elanna is accused of murdering him and must flee to her homeland full of magical legends. And to her birth father who was branded a traitor. Now she must confront the powers that have stirred within her and seem to grow as she connects to the natural world. Now Elanna must stop the threat that has chased her to her homeland and rebel against the kingdom she once called home. It reminds me of Uprooted by Naomi Novik and I really enjoyed that book.
In moives/tv shows --Assassination Classroom S2P2 The conclusion of Assassination Classroom is finally out today. The truth about Koro-Sensei will finally be revealed. But once Class E learns the truth, will they be able to assassinate the best teacher they’ve ever had? If you haven’t seen this series before or haven’t read the manga yet, you should. This series has had surprisingly good character development. When I first started reading the manga I thought it would just be this silly series but then it became so much more that just silly. It’s a really good blend of comedy, action, and can be very sweet. I haven’t seen the anime yet; although I own the first season, but from what I’ve seen and heard it follows the manga very well.
--Blue Exorcist Complete Box Set (blu-ray) For the first time the hit anime is out in a complete box set. Twin brothers; Rin and Yukio, were raised by an exorcists named Father Shiro Fujimoto. One day their home is attacked and Rin finds out his biological father is Satan. In order to avenge those that were lost during the battle Rin decides to train to become an exorcist in order to defeat Satan. Blue Exorcist is a really good series if you haven’t seen it yet. I’m not sure how well it follows the manga though. I think the end of the first season was different from the manga but I’m not 100% positive. I did flip through some of the volumes when season two started and it looked like the first part of S2 followed the manga pretty well. The set does cost $159.98 but the first season is available for streaming on Netflix and both are on Crunchyroll.
--Code Geass: Akito the Exiled The OVA series of the hit anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. It’s five episodes but each episode should be around 50 minutes. Characters from the series will make an appearance. I’m really excited for this release but all it has made me want to do is to rewatch the original series. Characters will be returning for this but I’m not quite sure how or what part they will play.
--Panda Go Panda (on blu-ray) A little girl who lives with a Panda and it’s baby. I didn’t know much about this title until it was mentioned in a panel at a con I went to this year. Afterwards, I found out that it was getting a blu-ray release. From what I remember our main character either thinks that PapaPanda is her father or PapaPanda offers to become her father while her family is away. Throughout the town tries to let her know that her Papa is a panda and the police and most the town try to catch them. It looks really cute. It’s only 80 minutes long. It’s two episodes.
--Sea Prince and the Fire Child (on blu-ray) One long ago fire spirits and wind spirits lived as one till one day the Lord of the Winds drove a rift between the Queen of Fire and her brother, the King of Water. Ever since then, the fire spirits and water spirits have been at war with one another. One day the Prince of Fire and the Princess of Water met and fell in love. Their only chance of living together means traveling to a distant star where fire and water spirits live in peace but they much reach the hill of Elysium by the next solar eclipse.
--Sword Art Online Box Set (blu-ray) One of the top favorite ‘getting stuck inside a video game’ series around is now available in a box set. All 25 episodes with some special features. The blu-ray is $159.95 and the dvd set is $69.98 BUT the dvd won’t be out until 8/1. Personally, I am holding out a small, small hope that I might come across the limited editions of the parts. I have the first one but missed out on the rest. If I break and buy the set someday, I’ll probably get the dvd. Unless the blu-ray set happens to have a good sale someday. I’m in no hurry cause my heart still heavily belongs to .hack//sign. SAO has some great fight scenes but I have stronger feelings toward .hack//sign.
--Yu-Gi-Oh Dark Side of Dimensions The original crew is back! Yugi and the gang are about to graduate from high school. Then trouble starts when a boy named Aigami arrives. He blames Bakura for the death of his mention; and former holder of the Millennium Ring, and it out for revenge. It’s up to Yugi to save Bakura and the rest of his friends. I managed to catch this movie when it came to theaters. It was great because I hadn’t seen Yu-Gi-Oh in a long time. Most of the original voice actors returned to dub it which I was very happy about. There was a minor change in a characters back story but it had been so long since I had seen the series that I didn’t notice it until someone pointed it out to me.
