"I feel like," Lup said, her head on Barry's legs, "we might be pushing it just a little bit. Like, just a little. Maybe we can tone it down a bit, or-"

"No, no, I, uh, I am definitely seeing the... issue with this one, no doubt," Barry said.

He had his legs out on their bed, a thick book leaning half on Lup's head and half in his hand. Next to him sat a notebook with, frankly, a little too many notes. That being said, it was a notebook for a reason.

Lup had her own set up on her lap, an even thicker book, deeply annotated (Barry had to remind himself he loved her every time she wrote something down in it). Covering that up, however, was a sketchbook she had promised to return to Lucretia three months ago and was now almost full. The page it was open to had a drawing of him in a very sparkly dark blue robe. There were flares and shiny stars and all sorts of associates on it. Sketch-Barry also had his hands in his pockets, but the erased attempts of hands Lup had done were still clearly visible.

Next to Sketch-Barry was a Sketch-Lup with an even more elaborate outfit. Lup tch'ed at it.

"I can make them," she said, stabbing Sketch-Lup with the tip of her pencil. "But deffo not in a year. And we're running out of time by the day."

"Yeah," Barry said. "Not that I don't appreciate the vibe-"

"Thank you."

"But we are kinda on, uh, a deadline. Literally."

"You're awful," Lup said, poking him with a boney elbow. "I wanna be kinda rad as a lich. Not that we couldn't pull the black robes off-"

"We totally could," Barry said.

"For sure, for sure," Lup said. "But it's so boring. If I'm gonna be a literal spirit of magic and bonds and shit, I wanna look cool. All of these losers-" she jabbed her pencil at the book this time- "are boring as shit. Oh, I'm a necromancer, that means I gotta wear black- we get it, Sheldon, you're a wanna-be goth. Get something good. Make a statement."

"Add some pazazz, Sheldon."

"Yeah," Lup said. "If I'm gonna be stuck in a singular form for the rest of my immortal life, I wanna be hot about it. Black is so three centuries ago. I'd look like Taako during his emo phase-"

"From what I know, that was a statement of some kind," Barry said and Lup snorted. She pushed the book off her lap and set the sketchbook aside, rolling until she was next to Barry's stomach. She bonked her head against this shirt. Barry ran a hand through her hair, flipping through his own book. Necromancers were so basic these days. At least add some color in there.

After a few minutes, Lup sighed, resigned.

"We might have to settle for red," she said begrudgingly. Barry could feel her frowning into his shirt. "It's better than black, I guess."

"With or without the IPRE patch?" Barry asked, massaging her skull now. Lup's nearest ear flicked in appreciation.

"With would be a little cooler," she said. "The logo does kinda kick ass."

"It does."

"And we could always like, magic ourselves cooler," she said. "As needed."

"Of course," Barry said.

"Alright," Lup said. She grunted, flipping herself back over and then sitting up. She twisted and her spine popped. Barry wasn't even phased anymore. "Red it is. Maybe we could, like, bedazzle them? Is that anything?"

"I love you," Barry said. "But I'm not going to be a bedazzled lich."

It really is too bad that so many people who love vampires keep just like... Assuming they know what goth music is instead of actually exploring goth music. Because so many of you all are obsessed with vampires, and there is no other genre with so many bands that write songs about vampires (or gothic literature like Frankenstein and Dracula) on purpose - and a lot of those songs/bands are genuinely good. But when you just decide emo/pop-punk bands like MCR or random metal stuff is goth music and argue with anyone who politely tries to correct you, you miss out on that. In short,

1609: Henry Hudson, Henrietta Hudson, and Frederick Storms set off to sea. Henry supposedly founds Sleepy Hollow and appoints Ambrose Van Tassel as mayor. Henrietta's ship, the Lichtgevund, also makes it.

1621: Anneke Storms, Juniper LeBouf, and the rest of their coven plan to cast the headless curse on Henrietta Hudson on Halloween. Anneke dies in the orphanage basement, though her fate is chalked up to a disappearance. The Headless Horseman is born. Anneke changes her children's last names to her mother's maiden name: Crane.

1622: Captain Gravy Davy Crowbones sees the Headless Horseman

1620s misc: Captain Gravy Davy Crowbones falls in love with Juniper Lebouf in Sleepy Hollow. He receives Juniper's necklace when she dies upon its shores, and buries it with his treasures.

1776: Battle of White Plains fought 10 miles away, Declaration of Independence signed

1777-1785: Cotton Van Tassel serves as mayor of Sleepy Hollow. Gets beheaded over soup that was "too wet".

Pride in the balance universe has to be amazing

The taaco twins have cook outs every weekend, full stop. They have streamers, pride flags, games, all of it for everyone to enjoy. The food is cooked to perfection because of course it is, it’s the twins after all, and their cooking is always done right. Taako always has something rainbow on and kravitz always has something fashionable to match. Lup wears a long shimmering cape with the trans flag on it and when she dances boy does it move. Most weekends Davenport and Merle will join the bluejeans and taacos as well. Merle sports pansexual face paint, sloppily done so it’s best to assume mookie or mavis did it. Davenport wears his favorite captains hat, one that is decked out with all sorts of rainbow patches and flags (he’s been collecting them from every world they traveled to). Carey and killian will come by a few times to get their grub on. Carey also makes a point to challenge taako to a dance battle. It’s about 50/50 on winning but killian can always be heard screaming “that’s my wife!” from the background. Lucretia comes by when she can, usually not wearing anything that would clash with her normal attire. However, she does change her bureau of benevolence bracer to the lesbian flag to quote “add a little flavor”. Magnus comes every single time, hell he practically lives with taako and lup at this point. He’s always there early to help set out food and make sure everything is working properly. He also lets angus paint fun designs of the bi flag on his face. Avi shows up every once in a while with a couple of trans and rainbow bracelets and lets mavis braid or mess with his long black hair. Lup tried to get him to wear her cape one year but he refused, saying it couldn’t possibly look as good on him as does on her. Every year they just have grand parties of happiness and love. Lucretia brings a girlfriend one year and they tease Lucy mercilessly saying things like, “this one cycle she did...” and “oh my gods do you know she used too...”. Lucretia went home very embarrassed but her date went home laughing. Some years they’ll even say something for those who have left. Avi will give a toast for Johann, saying how much he misses him but how greatful he is to have met him. Lup and kravitz worked together one year to try and play one of his old pieces. It went well but they couldn’t re-create Johann’s excellence, but everyone seemed to enjoy the sentiment. Carey and killian talk about noelle all the time, saying how much she would have loved these parties. They always leave two empty seats at the table just to let them join in spirit. The year after Magnus’s passing the party wasn’t as lively. Taako and Carey still had their annual dance battle and avi finally wore lup’s cape, but after seeing a 3rd empty chair everyone just ate in silence.

i don’t think that was a relic that got passed around a bunch, i think he found this fucked up dungeon in the felicity wilds and saw that it was run by two liches. two elf twins. like him and lup, like lup and taako. and he wanted to see the good in them, despite the warning signs. and they would at least hoard the bell, and keep it one place, so the damage would be limited, and he would know where it is so he could keep tabs on it.

he was probably thinking he could use the bell to help lup if it turned out she’d died when she disappeared. he was probably thinking he and lup together (and the rest of their family, if need be) could easily take edward and lydia and reclaim the bell.

and lucretia, when she was in wonderland... i think barry knew she was in there. i think he was watching her - this is pre-BoB, and i don’t think her security would be quite as strict - i think he was watching her like he watched the boys, but he couldn’t help her the same way because while magnus trusted the red robe, there’s no way lucretia would accept his help.

so he had to watch these liches, who had grown much more powerful with his relic, his gift, torture and destroy lucretia. he had to watch her age before his eyes. and he couldn’t do anything, except maybe try and rig the game a little bit in her favor. maybe that’s what allowed her to escape...without the bell. because he’d be watching for the bell, too; he doesn’t want her getting it, because that endangers the plan - his plan, lup’s plan - and as much as barry loves lucretia they are enemies now.

but that would weigh on him, so much - what happened to lucretia in wonderland was his fault. what happened to the boys in wonderland was his fault. he had to watch his relic kill magnus, he had to watch magnus die and know he would never come back this time - except the other boys saved him, somehow, and took back the bell, and barry fucking bluejeans remembered that yeah, this is his family who had survived for a century and change against the hunger and yeah. yeah. they could do this. they could win this.

and with the bell reclaimed, barry could use it to bring magnus back. he could use it to bring lup back.

the relics’ thrall isn’t supposed to effect their creators, but the bell snared barry, way back before he even made it.

how much do you think it killed lucretia to see her friends thrive without her? without any knowledge of the past century they’d spent together? was it bittersweet when she watched taako become a hit practically overnight, using skills that he’d used to sustain her and her family for so long? or to see magnus settled, stable, besotted? 

and how much worse do you think it was when she saw those joys ripped from beneath them, knowing that this world was cruel despite what they had done to it, despite what she was doing to save it, and knowing that it was her fault they’d suffer through it alone? 

headcanon that after they defeat john hunger the ipre crew goes to a tavern in neverwinter and gets absolutely tarnished just like they did the night before they left on the starblaster :)

hey y’all ever think about how lucretia is such a complex character like she’s seen as the serious madame director but she also said “hot diggity shit that is a baller cookie” (idc if that is griffin goofing it’s canon and I love it), like she has a great sense of humour, remember that old grape juice thing and “that what my jokes sound like” iconic. her character development is so interesting, from being the shy bookworm chronicler and going through hell for a year, hardening her. the fact that she is a morally grey character because she made decisions for her friends but it’s all because she loved them so much. the fact that she was still forgiven at the end. the pain she went through, the sacrifices. im just skdjdjdkkckdmfkdk
