Emily Davison
Emily Davison, a well-known British suffragette, was born in 1872 in South East London. She was a high achiever who received a scholarship to study literature at Royal Holloway College after graduating from high school. This was cut short when her father died and her mother was unable to pay the tuition expenses. Emily worked as a teacher until she had saved enough money to complete her studies at London University, where she earned a BA. She later spent one term at St Hugh's College, Oxford.  At the time, academia was dominated by men, and Emily developed strong opinions on the limited opportunities available to women in society. Emmeline Pankhurst's Women's Social and Political Unit (WSPU) piqued Emily's interest, and she soon became a radical member. Emily quickly rose to the position of WSPU head steward, and she quit her job to devote more time and effort to "the Cause." Emily was a suffragette who was discovered lurking in air ducts within the House of Commons, allegedly only listening in on Parliament (she did this three times); she tossed metal balls labelled "bomb" through windows and was taken to prison 6-7 times in four years. The 1913 Epsom Derby drew tens of thousands of spectators, including King George V and Queen Mary. Anmer, the King's horse, competed in that year's Derby. Anmer was third from last when the horses thundered around Tattenham Corner. Emily had pushed her way through the crowds and slid beneath the guardrail. As Anmer rounded the final corner, he couldn't help but collide with Emily, who was standing in front of him, holding the suffragette flag close to her. Jones was flung from his seat, and the horse fell, only to climb back up and finish the race alone. Jones was injured with broken ribs, bruises, and a concussion. Emily was transported to the hospital, but she died four days later from catastrophic internal injuries. Thousands of people filled the streets of London for her funeral, which was organised by the WSPU. Her body was then transported to King's Cross Station before being transported to her family's home in Northumberland for burial. Emily was buried in Morpeth, a little distance from her mother's home in Longhorsley, on June 15th, with her mother's inscription "Welcome home the Northumbrian hunger striker" and the WSPU motto "Deeds not words" on her gravestone. It is still unknown if Emily genuinely planned to commit suicide in the name of the suffragette cause on that fateful day. A return train ticket and an invitation to a suffragette meeting that night were discovered in her handbag, indicating that the act was not planned. However, Emily's prior actions may indicate that she was willing to murder herself for the cause.  Emily was persuaded that a selfless deed would boost the profile of the suffragette movement. This, however, was not the case. The public saw her acts as those of a "mentally ill zealot," and some former supporters of the suffragette movement were so outraged by the episode that they no longer wanted to be linked with "the cause." The media focused on the horse's and jockey's well-being (who never seemed to recover from the shame he felt) rather than the reason Emily died.

Thinking of Emily Davison today as we sit with Aaron Bushnall's self immolation . And countless others who have sacrificed themselves for a cause bigger than themself.
Emily was: "A member of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) and a militant fighter for her cause, she was arrested on nine occasions, went on hunger strike seven times and was force-fed on forty-nine occasions. She died after being hit by King George V's horse Anmer at the 1913 Derby when she walked onto the track during the race."
Reports aren't totally clear on why she did this but it did move the suffragette movement forward. I remember watching a video of it in hghschool (?)
Recently I made a post on Facebook about how ways to get through things is love and I'm afraid it may have been misinterpreted as this cushy post. I'm not talking about fluffy love. This is the kind of love I'm talking about. Loving so deeply you are willing to literally sacrifice everything to start a conversation. To make people uncomfortable. To fight for a better tomorrow.
I'm grieving tonight for so many people. Many unnamed Palestinians and people experiencing genocide across the world. Aaron. My own changed perceptions of the world. My altered relationships with those around me. And so much more.

someone on tiktok said that women had never done anything impactful in history so i listed some women, they then said that people like emily davison and emmeline pankhurst didn’t count because gender equality didn’t count???
so then i listed some more academic/science based women and they said this:
Tumblr media
(ignore the marie curie typo)
i’m not crazy right? these are some of the most famous women in history, famous for their discoveries and achievements
i’m sorry that you don’t know who they are but your ignorance does not mean that these amazing women did not do what they did??
tell me that you guys know all of these women and it’s common knowledge because i’m pretty sure it is right?
i’m so sick and tired of people thinking they deserve to win arguments using insults and belittlement even though they don’t have the slightest clue what they’re even talking about
edit: stop saying “i only know x but not y and z”. i don’t care, do better.

oh my god this footage restoration channel i follow posted colourized film of Emily Davison’s death and the comment section is full of stupid people saying what she did was dumb and dangerous
you’re right the suffragettes should’ve voted their way into having the vote they should’ve asked really really nicely. those mailboxes actually exploded on their own from the sheer power of democracy of strongly worded letters

[Reincarnation AU]
Luisa, scrolling through YouTube: I hate this. What do you mean “Isabela sings Surface Pressure” or “Camilo sings Waiting On a Miracle”? What the actual fuck?
Isabela: Lmao, I’d need your whole song to be higher for my soprano.
Luisa: Um, forget that, what about the fact you can’t relate to our specific traumas? You already have your own fucking song about your own trauma, why do you need mine?!?
Dolores: I completely agree with Luisa’s points. The songs were made specifically for each of you, not anyone else.
Mirabel: I too hate the fact that everything I have must be stolen from me. Thank God, I can sue people and have it taken down.
Mirabel: Jokes aside, we need to talk about the attention on male characters. Camilo has two minutes of screen time and zero plot relevance, yet is more beloved than the four of us combined. Why? Because he is male. The same case can be made for Bruno. Every female character in our film is completely villainised and any misstep is blown out of proportion. ‘Camilo’ singing our songs, being forced to fit our parts, is proof enough of that.
Mirabel: The erasure and hatred of female characters in this supposedly ‘modern feminist era’ is an actual joke - we had more feminism in our rural town in Colombia that was stuck in the 1890s! And that was before the feminist movement picked up traction. All this love for men, character or otherwise, drives me insane. I don't give a damn about Alexander Hamilton and his measly papers, where is the acknowledgment for Kateryn Parr as one of the first women to publish a book? Emily Davison is dumbed down to an idiot for what she did for the Suffragette movement, Mary Wollstonecraft's work for what became feminism is left unsaid, Simone de Beauvoir—
Dolores: Okay! That's enough history for today. Thank you, Mirabel.
Isabela, filming on her phone: No, let her keep going, Diane would love this

The Scottish Suffragette  Agnes Henderson Brown was born on April 12th 1866 in Edinburgh.
Nannie Brown, as she later became known as was born at 125 Princes Street, which is slap bang opposite the Castle. The street  in those days would have been mainly a residential one, as it was meant to be in the plans for the New Town, George Street was meant to be the main shopping are.
Their father was interested in social and political reform and the house became a centre of cultural activity. The Dad ran a number of fruit shops under the title of William Brown & Sons he trained his daughters, Agnes and Jessie, well and refused to submit to laws that he objected to, he was an activist for women’s rights. His opposition to taxes that differentiated between genders caused him to end up in Calton Gaol.
Agnes and her sister Jessie  were among the first women to be seen on bicycles in Scotland. The safety bicycle was the direct ancestor of today’s machines. With a slight adaptation they attracted thousands of women to cycling and some historians point to the safety bicycle as the beginnings of suffrage, women’s rights and feminism.
They first became active in the (WFL) Women’s Freedom League around 1910. Agnes was one of 6 women who walked the whole length of the Edinburgh to London suffrage march in 1912. It took five weeks and involved walking around 15 miles a day and attending a suffrage rally each evening. The marchers were dressed in russet brown jackets, earning the six women the name (the) Brown Women.
Following Emily Davison’s death at the Derby in 1913 a deputation of Councillors, JPs ministers, solicitors and barristers from Scotland and the North of England tried to see Prime minister Asquith, He refused to see them so they formed the ‘Northern Men’s Federation for Women’s Suffrage’ Agnes became secretary of the Edinburgh Branch.
Unlike the (WSPU) The Women’s Social and Political Union , the WFL welcomed male support in the struggle. They continued campaigning throughout the war years.
After the war Agnes was involved in setting up the (SWRI)  Scottish Women’s Rural Institute and was an organiser from 1917-22. She was also a member of the Edinburgh Women’s Citizens Association.
Nannie Brown wrote articles and plays and participated in societies such as the Edinburgh Dickens Fellowship, where she  learned women to type and ride a bicycle.
She continued to walk. Not content with the Brown Women walk she repeated a similar walk but this time she set off from John O Groats. As she travelled to London she reported on her journey in the Weekly Scotsman.
Agnes Brown died on 1st December 1943 and was buried with her parents in Dean Cemetery Edinburgh.  She was noted in the Scottish Saltire Society who published her obituary as an Outstanding Women of Scotland Community in 2014

Julian Fellowes's period drama Belgravia is an adaptation of his novel of the same name. The plot, which follows the trajectory of a family secret from a party in Belgium on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo in 1825 to England's Belgravia neighborhood in the 1840s, is a self-contained story, but in March 2023, MGM+ announced there will be a sequel series to Belgravia, aptly titled Belgravia: The Next Chapter. It will be set in the same world, but in a different time.
"I’m so proud of everything this dedicated team accomplished with the original Belgravia series. I cannot wait for the world to return to Belgravia for this new iteration, expertly crafted by Helen Edmundson," Julian Fellowes, Executive Producer, said in a statement. "Old and new fans alike will be swept off their feet with an emotionally engaging story, memorable characters, and brilliant production and costume design."
Here's what we know about season two:
The second season will be Belgravia: The Next Chapter.
Tumblr media
Hannah Onslow as Emily Dunn; Sophie Thompson as Mrs. Dunn; Harriet Slater as Clara Trenchard [MARK MAINZ/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+]
The show will pick up in 1871, three decades after the events of season one. Per Deadline, "the series tells the love story of Frederick Trenchard, who has grown up as the third Lord Trenchard, and his new love interest, Clara Dunn, who is a newcomer to London society. Unaware that his birth was the product of an affair between his mother Susan and the scoundrel John Bellasis, a troubled childhood has left Frederick deeply insecure, which challenges his courtship of and marriage to Clara."
There's an entirely new cast:
Tumblr media
Hannah Onslow as Emily Dunn; Harriet Slater as Clara Trenchard; Sophie Thompson as Mrs. Dunn; Sophie Winkleman as Duchess of Rochester [ROBERT VIGLASKY/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+]
Tumblr media
Harriet Slater as Clara Trenchard. [COLIN HUTTON/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+]
Harriet Slater will star as Clara Trenchard (née Dunn), "a young, smart, and striking woman, and a fresh face amongst the society of Belgravia, Clara is thrilled by her marriage to the enigmatic Frederick … but as she comes to learn more of her husband and the trauma he carries, Clara finds her marriage will not be as smooth as she first thought and is something she must fight for."
Tumblr media
Benjamin Wainwright as Frederick Trenchard; Harriet Slater as Clara Trenchard. [ROBERT VIGLASKY/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+]
Ben Wainwright will play Frederic Trenchard, "the young and handsome third Lord Trenchard, Frederick takes after his grandfather with a ferocious work ethic, having built a large business empire. Immediately smitten with Clara, he marries her after a whirlwind romance, but brings with him traumas from his past that threatens his newfound happiness."
The rest of the cast is as follows:
Tumblr media
Edward Bluemel as Dr. Stephen Ellerby [COLIN HUTTON/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+]
Tumblr media
Hannah Onslow as Emily Dunn; Toby Regbo as Reverend James Trenchard [COLIN HUTTON/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+]
Tumblr media
Liam Garrigan as Fletcher; Elaine Cassidy as Davison [MARK MAINZ/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+]
Edward Bluemel will play Dr. Stephen Ellerby, a young idealistic doctor captivated by Clara
Claude Perron will play French businesswoman the Marquise D’Étagnac
Toby Regbo will play Rev. James Trenchard, Frederick’s estranged brother
Elaine Cassidy will play Clara's lady's maid Davison
Hannah Onslow will play Clara’s older sister, Emily Dunn
Sophie Thompson will play Clara and Emily's mother, Mrs. Dunn.
Tumblr media
Benjamin Wainwright as Frederick Trenchard; Sophie Winkleman as Duchess of Rochester. COLIN HUTTON/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+
Plus, the show will feature Sophie Winkleman as the Duchess of Rochester, described as "the queen of Belgravia" who sits atop the social hierarchy. Winkleman, also known as Lady Frederick Windsor, is a member of the British royal family. In August 2023, Winkleman opened up to the Daily Mail about the allure of Regency-era romances. "Just the way you compose yourself, the way you speak the words, we are in such a casual era," she explained, "To go back to some kind of formality, you realise how oddly sexy it is, because everything's so out there in this current century. There's actually no intrigue at all, so going back to then, when everything had to be so covered up for the sake of propriety, everything ripples under the surface. It is quite a sensual experience."
Tumblr media
Alice Eve as Susan Trenchard. [COLIN HUTTON/CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION LIMITED/MGM+]
There's two returning cast members from the original Belgravia: Alice Eve as Susan Trenchard and Richard Goulding as Oliver Trenchard.
Belgravia was intended to be a limited series.
“For me, this is a completed story, although whenever I say this to any of the actors, they disagree with me violently, so I’m not sure we know the definitive answer to that, really,” Julian Fellowes initially said at a preview for Belgravia. “We’ll have to see. If anyone wants any more…”
“We definitely made this as a limited series because it’s really enjoyable at times to have a clear beginning, middle and end,” Gareth Neame, who also worked on Belgravia, said, per The Wrap. “And it’s obviously been adapted from a novel that has a clear ending. So that’s where we are right now. But obviously one never knows. If we find it does really well and we find another way to bring the title back in the future then I guess we would consider that. But right now it’s very clearly a limited series.
Belgravia season two premieres January 14, 2024.

There will be eight episodes in the season. Watch a first trailer:

Hi everyone, last year I wrote my second book, Silverlake.
Set in 1994 in Silverlake, an American metropolis in Minnesota, the story takes place in a world in which several animals on the planet are evolving drastically, becoming anthropomorphic. These animals are having human characteristics where they have acquired several human abilities like speech, much to the surprise of humans.
Due to this evolution, humans began to fear for these animals, generating hatred and prejudice against them. This started a conflict between humans and evolved animals, where tensions and hostilities between them began to increase at an alarming and dangerous rate. The story revolves around an unlikely friendship between Emily Hartwood, a lonely 12-year-old girl, and Nathan Davison, an extroverted 13-year-old fox.
This dramatic story was inspired by the film The Cure (1995) and the concept of animals evolving was inspired by the idea of the next stage of human evolution explored in Marvel Comics' X-Men. The drawing of the first image was done by my best friend, NOTG, and the arts for the second and third image were done by @isa-sketches. Thank you so much guys for the amazing arts ❤️

Oi pessoal, ano passado eu escrevi o meu segundo livro, Silverlake.
Essa história dramática foi inspirada no filme A Cura (1995) e o conceito de animais evoluírem foi inspirado na ideia da próxima etapa da evolução humana explorada nos X-Men, da Marvel Comics. in hindsight as a kid i was deeply fascinated by the victorian era and its immediate descendants in a way that was quite distinct. jack the ripper, the myth of spring-heeled jack, baby farmers, mudlarks, chimney sweeps, that sketch from horrible histories about nailing a boy’s ear to a factory bench, hulks, sweeney todd, emily wilding davison jumping in front of the king’s horse…. they’re all up here if you look for them. the only skipping song i know is a victorian one about mary ann cotton being hanged for murder

If I were on the fence about climate change I think these protests would make me less convinced about doing anything.
These protests are about making noise, the idea being anything that gets you looked at is good publicity. I've heard people mention the suffragettes chaining themselves to fences for votes and specifically Emily Davison who died when running in front of a horse, standing out and making a nuisance of themselves where they are seen. I'm sure the Vienna branch of vandals has their own justification along those lines, but they're likely inspired by the tomato soup Vs Van Gogh thing.
But here's the thing: the people who can make a difference are no more targeted by this than people who are going to be dying this winter due to cold. In fact rich people are probably less bothered by this because you can't get to their art.
Go tar bomb a private jet you cowards.
