Pairings:
Jay Halstead x Ella Bennett(original character)
Background:
Jay Halstead, a dedicated detective on the Chicago PD, had found his heart intertwined with the beautifully stunning Ella. At 28 years old, Jay couldn't help but be drawn to her magnetic presence, her genius-level IQ, and her exceptional skills as an agent. Ella's life had been shaped by harrowing circumstances, forced to join the FBI and go undercover at the tender age of 12 due to her physically abusive and alcoholic father's involvement in drug trafficking.
As they navigated the challenges of their respective careers, Jay made it his priority to keep a watchful eye on Ella, especially during their undercover operations. Ella's constant movement and struggle to concentrate on one thing at a time were reminders of her troubled past. Jay's protective instincts kicked in, knowing the vulnerabilities that lay beneath her stunning exterior.
Ella's reputation as the best undercover agent on her team and her powerful connections made her a formidable force in the field. Her expertise in hand-to-hand combat, particularly her use of pressure points, was unmatched. But it was her brilliant mind, running a thousand miles a minute, that truly captivated Jay.
Recognizing Ella's need for physical activity to combat her restlessness, Jay often joined her on runs, providing both a source of companionship and a way to channel her energy. As Ella danced around the room, Jay couldn't help but be turned on by her uninhibited expression of self. Her grace and fluidity were a testament to her vibrant spirit, and it ignited a fire within Jay.
**********************
One fateful day, while pursuing a suspect on the run, Ella found herself injured and in need of medical attention. Fear gripped her heart as memories of her traumatic past in hospitals resurfaced. Jay, knowing the depth of her trauma, was determined to be by her side and provide the comfort she needed.
As they arrived at the hospital, Jay held Ella's trembling hand, his touch speaking volumes of his unwavering support. Ella tried to muster the strength to convince Jay to help her escape, her anxiety heightening as they entered the examination room. A male doctor entered, ready to tend to Ella's injuries, but his demeanor quickly shifted from professional to inappropriate.
Jay's protective instincts surged forth, his jaw clenching as he observed the doctor's unwanted advances towards Ella. Jealousy flared within him, his grip on Ella's hand tightening as he prepared to defend her honor. Though Ella remained completely faithful to Jay, her cluelessness in such situations added to Jay's frustration.
In that moment, Jay stepped forward, his voice laced with a warning edge. "I think that's enough, Doctor. My girlfriend is here for medical attention, not for your personal interests."
Ella, oblivious to the doctor's advances, looked at Jay with confusion before realizing the situation. A sense of relief washed over her, knowing Jay was there to protect her from harm. She clung to his side, finding solace in his unwavering presence.
The doctor, taken aback by Jay's protective stance, hastily backed away, stammering an apology. It was clear that Jay's presence and unwavering protectiveness had set a clear boundary. The doctor quickly tended to Ella's injuries with a newfound sense of professionalism, leaving the room as swiftly as he had entered.
With the doctor gone, Jay turned his attention back to Ella, his eyes filled with love and concern. “I’m gonna get a new doctor”
Ella nodded, a mix of gratitude and affection filling her gaze as she leaned into Jay's touch. In that vulnerable moment, she realized just how lucky she was to have him by her side.
While they were deep in conversation, a new doctor entered the room. It was none other than Jay's older brother, Will Halstead, who had recently joined the hospital staff. A warm smile spread across Will's face as he saw his brother and Ella together, relieved to see that she was in good hands.
Will immediately sensed the tension in the room, noticing Jay's protective stance and Ella's unease. He approached them with a gentle demeanor, assuring Ella that he was there to help and would ensure she received the best care possible.
Ella couldn't help but feel a sense of relief knowing that Jay's brother was now attending to her. She trusted Will and appreciated his presence, given the difficult circumstances. As Will tended to Ella's injury, Jay's jealousy was replaced by gratitude for his brother's expertise and genuine concern.
With his medical duties completed, Will decided to conduct some routine tests to ensure Ella's well-being. As he prepared to draw her blood, Ella's playful nature emerged. She feigned terror, begging Jay to help her escape the dreaded needle. Her words were lighthearted and filled with humor, a testament to her ability to find joy even in challenging situations.
Jay couldn't help but chuckle at Ella's antics, his love for her radiating from his eyes. He played along, pretending to be her accomplice in a grand escape plan. Their banter and laughter filled the room, momentarily dispelling the tension that had lingered just moments ago.
Amidst the jovial atmosphere, Will returned to the room, a wide grin on his face. Sensing something was amiss, Jay and Ella looked at him curiously. With a hint of excitement in his voice, Will delivered the news that left them both stunned and elated.
"Congratulations," he announced, his eyes shining with happiness. "Ella, you're pregnant."
The room seemed to stand still as the magnitude of the news sank in.
“Holy shit, I’m gonna be a dad!” Jay's joy knew no bounds as he wrapped his arms tightly around Ella, his heart filled with an overwhelming mix of emotions. A wave of love and protectiveness washed over him, his focus shifting entirely to the new life growing within Ella.
As they basked in the joy of the revelation, Jay, Ella, and Will shared laughter, tears, and heartfelt embraces. The hospital room transformed into a sanctuary of love and hope, where the past traumas and present worries were eclipsed by the promise of a bright and beautiful future.

Hey, I know you read HR so I was wondering if you could give me recs that are not Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas,
Love by Numbers series, Sarah MacLean
This one might be mentioned more often, but I absolutely loved the first book. Follows identical twin brothers and their newly discovered half-sister as they fall in love. Can be read out of order. Three books.
Ella Quinn
I’ve read and enjoyed almost her whole catalogue of books. Series are The Worthingtons, The Marriage Game, The Lords of London, and a few novellas. Can be read out of order.
Rouges to Riches series, Grace Burrowes
This was an enjoyable series and I’ve read all but the one published this year. Follows the Wentworth family as they go from poverty to riches. One book features the depiction of a hero who most likely has epilepsy. Another book includes a hero who uses a wheelchair and cane. Can be read out of order. Seven books and a handful of novellas.
Hellions of Halstead Hall series, Sabrina Jeffries
I really liked this series. Follows the five wild Sharpe siblings after their grandmother gives them an ultimatum to marry or be cut-off and as they decide to investigate their parents’ mysterious deaths. Should be read in order. Five books + one that leads into another series.
Swanlea Spinsters series, Sabrina Jeffries
I enjoyed this series. Follows the daughters of the earl of Swanlea plus two others. Should probably be read in order. Five books.
Anna Harrington
I really like all of her work. I’ve read almost all of them and they’re quite enjoyable. Her series are: The Secret Life of Scoundrels, Capturing the Carlisles, and The Lords of The Armory. (The Lords of The Armory should be read in order.) One of her novellas features one of my favorite heroes, Hugh Whitby.
Sons of Sin series, Anna Campbell
I enjoyed this series. Follows three friends who are all illegitimate, even if they aren’t technically illegitimate. (It’s complicated.) Four books + a novella. Probably could be read out of order.
The Survivors series, Shana Galen
I absolutely loved this series. Follows the twelve surviving members of a suicide troop and their lieutenant colonel as they fall in love after the Napoleonic wars. Features a varied cast of heroes and heroines. Not all heroines are virgins and most of the heroes suffer from PTSD. Some heroes also bear physical reminders: a burned face, crushed legs, and near blindness. Most of the heroes also aren’t rakes and there’s at least one virgin hero! Twelve books + three novellas. Should be read in order, or at least leave book 12 for last as everyone prior makes an appearance. *Also, one novella focuses on a black character & a dark-skinned mixed race character. Other novels include characters of color being given side plots.*
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions: Jewels of the Ton, Shana Galen ; The Rogues of Regent Street, Julia London ; Rogues’ Dynasty, Amelia Grey
Note: Some of the books include sensitive topics, including heroines being raped prior to the book’s events in two books.

the halstead triplets
the halsteads are a small, middle class family native to the bayport area. the parents, grace and christopher, met during their second year of college, dated through another four years before marrying in a small modest ceremony. the triplets were born nearly a year to the day of their anniversary and were a very happy addition to the family. a little over three years after their birth, christopher died via car accident and left grace alone to raise the three kids. with one income, the kids always had what they needed, but were by no means spoiled. the family has always been close and protective of one another. they still get together every sunday for dinner at mom’s.
i’d love for at least one of the triplets to be a gal, but they can all be boys and/or identical. please, be lame with me and use names that start with ‘c’!!

Bay Area March Dance Checklist
[Theater] Betroffenheit
By Kidd Pivot and Electric Company Theatre
Tumblr media
https://calperformances.org/performances/2016-17/theater/kidd-pivot-electric-company-theatre-betroffenheit.php
Sat, March 11, 8pmVenue: Zellerbach Hall Price: Tickets start at $30
Two of Canada’s most renowned companies join forces in an emotionally visceral dance-theater experience that examines with unflinching honesty—through comedy and drama, poetry and movement—the shock that besets you in the wake of a disaster. While the work’s extended metaphors encompass weighty concepts like the inability of words to express suffering and the labyrinth of addiction, the overarching message is one of hope and the human capacity to endure. “Utterly compelling…one of the most visually memorable and emotionally powerful performances of the festival."—The Examiner, Dublin Please note: This performance contains strobe-like effects, nontoxic theatrical haze, and strong language.
120 minutes, including intermission.

“The dancing is always excellent: full-bodied and expansive, without being showy or brawny.”                                      ——– The New Yorker
San Francisco’s internationally acclaimed contemporary dance company ODC/Dance celebrates its 46th season with two world-premieres, live music, and the reprise of Brenda Way’s Walk Back the Cat and Kate Weare’s Giant.
PROGRAM
WEEK 1
“Blink of an Eye” (World Premiere) by KT Nelson
“Giant” (2015) by Kate Weare
Gala Special Program: March 24 only
Blink of an Eye explores our ephemeral place in time, space, and history, through the use of historical costume accessories, hand held theatrical lights, and music from divergent historical periods. It was influenced by Ms. Nelson’s six-week pilgrimage to the Camino de Santiago, a route to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great in northwestern Spain.
Blink of an Eye is made possible by contributions from the Amphion Foundation, Richard Grand Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Bernard Osher Foundation, and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation
Giant plays with perceptions of the heroic body by fantasizing out loud about potency and valor. Playing with scale and feeling, Giant flips from idea to idea, toying with our assumptions of where — and how — power lies. Dubbed “the voice of the ‘it’s complicated’ generation,” by Dance Magazine, Weare charts her own humanism by tackling head-on the violence, sensuality, and yearning for intimacy that mark our age. Giant is made possible by White Bird’s ‘Barney’ Creative Prize and ODC’s Artistic Venture Fund.
Celebrate ‘Women on the Move’ with an evening of cocktails, dinner, spectacular performances by ODC/Dance, and an after-party at the St. Regis and YBCA. This unforgettable night will feature the performance of Kimi Okada’s Two if by Sea, as well as excerpts of KT Nelson’s Blink of an Eye, Kate Weare’s Giant, and Triangulating Euclid, Brenda Way and KT Nelson’s collaboration with Kate Weare. More info here.
WEEK 2
“Walk Back the Cat” (2016) by Brenda Way
“What we carry What we keep” (World Premiere) by Brenda Way
Way’s Walk Back the Cat excavates the circuitous journey of the choreographic process and arrives in a world inspired by Thomas Hart Benton’s muscular and vital murals of American City Life in the 1930s. With live music by Paul Dresher, Emily Packard, and Doug Morton. Walk Back the Cat is made possible by contributions from The Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
