This is an experiment. I thought it’d be fun to have my own space for reviewing the stuff I listen to, so here it is. YouTube style reviews, inspired by luisa and Kpopalypse and TheBiasList and everyone who does kpop reviews.

ON&ON, Hong Eunki

Pleasant but doesn’t seem to hold much replay value for me. Won’t skip if it comes on though. [7.75/10]

In the Dark, Jeong Sewoon

A pleasant listen. don’t know why I never listened to this before now. I will reflect properly on my actions and make sure to listen more in the future. [8/10, although I doubt I’ll go back to this one a lot]

Fav Boyz feat. Thutmose (Steve Aoki’s Gold Star Remix), A.C.E

No one asked for a remix. [5/10]

CRUSH, MCND

Basic MCND formula, nice instrumentals and rapping with a chant for a chorus. Ice Age is still my favourite, but this might grow on me. [6/10]

MY TREASURE, TREASURE

Pleasant. Haven’t watched the MV but this is the type of song that would probably have the idols in white t-shirts, sitting around a fire, smiling and clapping. [7/10]

HWAA, (G)I-DLE

Hann 2.0, except I like Hann better. [7/10]

What I Said, VICTON

Started off okay, and then everything descended into basic boy group territory. For some reason I’m still listening to it. [6/10]

T1419, ASURABALBALTA

Basic boy group thing. You boys should sue your company for giving you such an unremarkable name. It’s better than DRIPPIN, I guess.

PERFUME, YUBIN

Points off for the ‘fume fume, fume fume’ line. [8.25/10]

Abittipsy, YOUHA

A great example of the retro trend. [9/10]

Thank U, U-KNOW

Very catchy, I can’t stop singing along. [8/10]

STAY YOUNG, AB6IX

Nice. The chorus was just nice at the start, then the second part made me decide to keep it. Or was that the prechorus and then the chorus? I think I’ll keep this one. [7.5/10]

No diggity, ONEUS

Not the ONEUS comeback we wanted. I’ll just pretend it didn’t happen. [5/10]

My Turn, CRAVITY

VROOM VROOM VROOM VROOM VROOM VROOM VROOM SKRRRT. That’s all there is to know about this song. It’s not unbearable for me, just amusing. The part after the vrooms and skrrts in the chorus make it better, but I don’t remember much of the verses. [6.5/10, points off for skrrrt skrrrt]

Time for me, Berry Good

Generic girl group song. Rated [G] for generic.

X, Chungha

Meh. Excited for the album though. [6/10]

Get You Alone, Baekhyun

Would have been an 8 but it doesn’t seem to have much replay value. [7/10]

Love So Sweet, Cherry Bullet

Love it in spite of the ugly MV. This song deserved a better video! [9/10]

Lemon Candy, Pink Fantasy

Generic girl group song. Liked it though. [7.5/10]

Only You, Saturday

Pleasant. [G]

Amateur Lover, Susan

Didn’t care much about it until the chorus hit. I like it. Reminds me a little of Rina Sawayama. [8/10]

Burn It, Golden Child

Golden Child can do better than okay. [7/10]

Eeny Meeny, U-KNOW

[U] for unlistened.

U Mad, Bobby

No Bobby, I’m not. YOU should be mad, for rapping so hard over such a weak beat. Sue your producer. The second verse is better, but the chorus is basic YG style. [5.5/10]

Odd Eye, Dreamcatcher

Sigh. Not the Dreamcatcher comeback I wanted. Where are the guitars? The rock? Then again, I said the same about Boca, and I love Boca now. It’s unlikely I’ll like this one though. At least Handong is back now. [7/10 because I’m biased] EDIT: Raising the rating to 7.5 because more listens have chnaged my mind, but that rap in verse two is still grating on my ears.

Celebrity, IU

It’s nice but IU can definitely do better. [7.5/10]

I’m Not Cool, Hyuna

This is a Blackpink song but sung by Hyuna. [6/10]

D-D-DANCE, IZ*ONE

OK, but I don’t care about this song. [7/10]

Jisung, Minhyun, Hyunbin, Jaehwan, and Sungwoon

Minhyun, Jaehwan, and Sungwoon were already known as great vocals, so they didn’t really surprise me, it’s what I expected from them. Jisung however, he shocked me, I didn’t expect that voice from the boy that became a meme from saying he wanted to get a kiss from a Nu'est member, this is the moment that made me realize he was more than some meme, and also why he quickly rose on my bias list. [Amazing Kiss by BoA was a close second fave.]

Zhengting, Insoo, Woodam, Kiwon, Sangbeen, and Jaechan

Zhengting the like loml, and the 5 little babies that didn’t chose dancing, dancing chose them. They were all great, especially for having a team mostly made up of people that don’t dance. [Shape of You is a close second fave.]

Jonghyun, Guanlin, Taemin, and Moonbok

This one hit me so hard, like especially Guanlin and Jonghyun’s raps, like I cried from it. [I’m Not The Same Person You Used To Know is a close second because WOO JINYOUNG MITOCHOJI, plus Euiwoong, like I didn’t expect that from him.]

Oh Little Girl by Slate

Minki, Gunhee, Euiwoong, Hyeongseob, Jinyoung, Sewoon, and Jihoon

Seven of my top 20 in the same group, yes, I love it. This song was great, the dance was great, the aesthetics were great, and I loved it. [I Know You Know is a close second. (IKYK deserved better, pass it on.)]

Super Hot

Minki, Daehwi, Samuel, Sungwoon, Jonghyun, Dongho, Hyeongseob, Guanlin, Youngmin, and Seonho

Like ten of my faves, yes, of course I loved it. I had hoped Minhyun would be in it so all of Nu'est would be in one group, but I’m not disappointed. Cheoro kings Daehwi and Samuel choreographed this masterpiece, and I love how they included so many elements from the previous episodes and stages. Guanlin and Seonho’s Troublemaker, the Showtime 3 hearts, and so many things. I say only deep lyrics get me, but then I was crying when Daehwi and Minki said “fashionista” and “funky sista”.

Yes, like I’d date my Wanna One, JBJ, Rainz, and just Pd101 bias so quick if they asked me, like -3 seconds to reply. Like Jisung, Donghan, Eunki, or Zhengting asking me out, like fuck yes, I need no time to think, like yes.

I’m back from vacation (and crying) so i wanna make a list of all the trainees i will truly miss from produce 101′s last elimination.

Kim Seonglee who has a beautiful ass voice and got very little screentime. his vocals would’ve killed in the top 11. You will be truly missed ;;; a smiling angel :(

Byun Hyunmin My flippy boy :( Who actually has good stable vocals (i mean even his evaluation at the beginning was stable and he sounded great?) even after doing all that dancing and those flips and his iconic (well at least in my books) pushed back hair in the Right Round performance (still dead thx)

Woo Jinyoung cute cute boy, such a talented rapper, personally my favorite rapper on the show. He showed his own unique colors in his rapping. he went from rapping cute in mansae to nearly killing me in Who You. Why y’all hate talent???? Even tho he wasn’t my like /main/ bias. I think i’m personally gonna miss him the most.

Yoo Hoeseung another boy with another beautiful voice. Also did i mention he was hilarious??? he makes me smile so much and laugh so much. him, haknyeon, and samuel with the pants laksdjf. lip swipe boy. Also another legendary meme. If he got more screentime im 100% sure the ‘national producers’ would love him more.

Lee Gwanghyun im gonna keep my cool and not write a 5 page paragraph its fine. Boy really all rounder????? how dare y’all seperate the starship boys im bitter, sewoon was upset when he didn’t see gwanghyun’s face on the screen for the 35th place, and gwanghyun told sewoon he’s gonna miss him??? y’all hate friendship and talent that much. His voice???? beautiful pls. Dance??? of course boy smooth. Rap?? boy said he gave himself a challenge with rap but made himself sound seem like he was a rapper. Went from replay to rhythm ta like no big deal, like lmao okay. ELMINATED TWICE!!!!! Y’ALL REALLY DONE THIS TO THIS SWEET BOY IM SO MAD!!!!!!!!! he’s so sweet and might not be the loudest, but how is that a bad thing? he proved himself with his skills and personality what more u want from him. im done i wanna keep going but....

Hong Eunki Shhh, can u guys hear that? thats the sound of my heart breaking into 12billion pieces. Do i need to even explain how much i love this boy to you guys? Dance king? King of waacking? he made his whole right round team waack like what a fuckin legend. Boy out there being a leader that could literally give two shits rather ur popular or not. He gave an Hwanwoong the position even though he was a lower rank bc he believed that he fit the concept more. Most people would go for more popular members bc it does give them a better chance for score, but boy knows what the fuck he is doing. He’s so loveable? he makes friends with so many boys and he loves to hold hands. Literally can go from booty bouncing to graceful dancing. Idk if any of y’all seen his predeubt videos of him dancing, or auditioning for a play, or of him in drag(and not as a joke, it was a role in the play and let me say he fuckin killed it), but that boy can fuckin do everything. i just ;;; my heart hurts so much. Boy gives us everything adn what do we give him :( i hope you all will support him in whatever he chooses to do, bc u can’t deny that that boy is talented

Jung Jung/ Zhu Zheng Ting I DIDN’T WANT TO WRITE ANYTHING FOR HIM BC MY HEART, IITS SO SHATTERED, I ;;;; SMILING ANGEL, KING OF TRADITIONAL DANCING, KING OF TUMBLING, KING OF LOVE, JUST A KING. BOY WAS CENTER TWICE!!!! WHY DID U GUYS NOT NOTICE HIM!!!! he killed it everytime too :( He fills my hear with so so so so much love. He loves his members so much and cares for them. He’s trying so so hard to learn korean better for he can interact with everyone. His voice is also stable? He really never got a chance to show his vocals but with his little oppurtunities he showed everyone how well he did. Boy was in a national chinese dance competition and placed 1st. He had so much more to show and he was cut so short :( thank you for voting him through this far everyone, he was one of the “lesser” popular members, and me being not able to vote for him once breaks my heart. Thank you again everyone. Good luck to him adn the rest of the Yuehua boys on their debut and don’t get to follow their instagram. Also pleas continue to support the rest of the Yuehua boys!

And to the boys that i didn’t mention! YOU GUYS ARE SO TALENTED AND DESERVED BETTER!! I HOPE ALL OF YOU GUYS LUCK ON UR DEBUT AND TO KEEP THAT CONFIDENCE UP!

Broduce 101: Episode 8 (Quick Livestream Recap)

This post contains spoilers.

Alright, I missed a bit of the first half which must have been fanservice, because I was tossed into eliminations straight up.

I recapped the first half here!

It was pretty awful, with the boys talking about their dreams and hopes with the elimination sword swinging above their heads. They keep talking about Jihoon and his number one rank. It was not entertaining.

What was entertaining, however, was the little segment they prepared with Hwiseung and to do that punching strength machine thing.

Kim Dongbin started it off and did surprisingly well.

Minki expanded his shoulders to go try knock him off the #1 chair. He’s really so good at variety, strutting and playing himself up, but his score wasn’t even near enough to beat Dongbin’s surprising 917.

Sunghyuk, the muscled dark horse topped it easily.

Of course Ong-ssi had to come be casually confident. He snorted derisively at the score, and went to the back of the hall to charge up his power run before punching the machine and....did not reach the 900s. He said sheepishly said he’ll try to be humble.

BNM are embarrassed of their Donghyun hyung and his gags, but the guy outpunched Sunghyuk easy.

A lot of the other trainees tried and got close, until Manly Man Real Oppa Sexy Bandit was hyped and brought on. He gets nervous about the burden before punching the machine hard.

Samuel: OH. MY GOD.

He tied with Donghyun. They both face off, Donhyun got 949 and Sexy Bandit punched to a cool 950. He did a shy little Nayana victory chant.

Thank god BoA is back. She’s perfunctory but not annoying. She’s also really bad at acting to build anticipation so it’s endearing.

Mnet doesn’t clean their audio very well. I keep hearing background audio from floor mics when they walk to their seats.

Yehyun got in in the early 30s (!!!!)

Kwon Hyunbin is in. He said some stuff about working hard (cut to shots of Jonghyun and Auntie Jisung), looking a lot like the Monsta X rapper with pink hair. BoA asked if he’s been working hard and the trainees said yes, because they’re polite kids.

I’m not sure if they’re trying to Brohye him, but he does have his own section of fans. I believe there were rumours some fans are buying spots for him from voters, but its uncertain how far his looks will carry him even with the helpful edits and apologies.

Jang Moonbok dropped to a petty 32. He looked beautiful though, they’ve started to style his hair instead of lazily flat ironing it. He had a half ponytail and large gold rimmed glasses. So pretty. His thank you speech was humble, he said he’ll work slow and steady like a tortoise to earn his spot. He’s actually good with his words, his raps mimic his speaking style a lot.

Kenta made it at 31! It’s a risk spot, but lowkey incredible how little screentime he gets.

RBW Lee Gunhee who was the Amazing Kiss main vocal, BoA points out, and he had the 110,00 vote benefit. His label mate, Hwanwoong, did not :|

Brand New Music Donhyun made it at 29! I was worried about him too!

BNW Park Woojin, who’s been getting really popular lately, was 14. He didn’t see Youngmin trying to congratulate him and ran up as though he was ignoring him and then had to run back to hug his hyung properly lol

God that awful music library with the mournful instrumentals.

Park Woodam made it at 28. He hugged his fellow HF trainee, Woo Jinyoung, whose face started settling into resignation as the numbers went up.

Noona killer Hunus Kim Sanggyun made it!!!!

Baby maknae Lee Woojin was safe too.

FNC Yoo Hwiseung was not, as handsome as he looked that day. It was awful because he kept smiling and playing around with the camera when it swung past him. I’m really going to miss him, he reminds me of Nam Woohyun so much at some angles too. When will Infinite comeback.

Ardor and Able Ha Sungwoon made it too, thank fucking god. He’s blond now.

I’m not as excited about that. Please don’t keep the frizzy bleach.

WH Creative Seo Sunghyuk, my unintentional meme boy, has been gaining traction and was safe. He cried a little at his rapid, unexpected rise through the ranks. Even the trainees were a bit surprised at his rank.

Yuehua Lee Euiwoong made it in the early 20s. Ahn Hyunbseob was in at 20, he thanked Woojin and gave him a heart, while also thanking the voters.

The Chinese Yuehua boys, Jung Jung and Justin, were eliminated. It’s a shame, they were definitely idol material. I’m keen to see what Yuehua has planned with the boys, hopefully after a few more vocal classes.

The Vibe Label Kim Tadeong, the vampire flower boy from SoY was in, along with his teammate Noh Taehyun, who was a rank above at 21.

Pledis Minki made it at 20

Brave Samuel’s dropped to 16 though they mentioned he had one of the highest views on his fancam (Auntie Jisung gave him that reassuring thumbs up). Samuel, thankfully, has gone back to chocolate brown hair.

Chun Arctic Fox Kim Yongguk was safe, so was Bae Jinyoung.

Starship Jung Sewoon dropped to 17, and clarified that he was not scared of Dongho (’Yes, well done!’ piped in Baekho, as he spoke) but Gwanghyun didn’t make it, my poor baby :(

MMO Yoon Jisung made it at 15 and all the trainees hugged him and called him an ajhumeoni lol. His weird clapping thing has become a gag for real.

I love you, Auntie Jisung, the only ray of sunshine in this mess.

Cube Yoo Seonho was 13. Baby Chick knew he was going to be safe, making BoA laugh. He chestbumped his hyungs on stage and called Guanlin a superstar, saying he knew the lower ranked Cube trainee was going to be him lol

Pledis’ “Power Sexy” Baekho was 11. He smiled like a big baby, even though everyone thinks he’s sexy and rough. BoA made him do aegyo and I, his noona, approve.

He sat down on his 11 chair and said, very cutely, ‘Wow, it’s so high.’

Cre.Ker Joo Haknyeon was 10.

Jaehwan was 9, he got embarrassed seeing his face on the big screen and said he’ll work hard to become a worthy vocal. BoA asked him to sing Sorry, Sorry to fill broadcast time.

MMO Kang Daniel dropped to 8. His wrist seems to be injured. Since he thanked his noonas in Busan satoori last time, he thanked his dongsaengs in Seoul accent this time lol

Ong Sungwoo was in at 7, and apparently he has predominately male fans (Yoo Seonho: I’m a fan too). He did an extra little thank you and reenacted his high note gag from the Get Ugly performance

Pledis Minhyun was 6. Everyone was shook by how handsome he is on that big screen. He picked Jaehwan as someone he wants to debut with.

BNM Im Youngmin was at 5 - he was trending the last few weeks but it’s been found out that he had a girlfriend this week, so it’s safe to assume he’s going to drop rapidly now.

He did his alpaca dance to celebrate his entrance to top 11. Cute.

BNM Lee Daehwi was 4, which is a relief. After being cyber bullied, he’s being very careful with his words, not revealing his ambition for being number 1. He thanked his mum in America and bounced to his seat, clearly relieved.

Lai Guanlin got ready to stand up as she spoke about handsomeness lol but Park Jihoon was number 3. He thanked his fans and said he loved his mum. We got an unnecessary peek into his journey like he’s being eliminated or something. He only dropped 2 ranks, geez.

Taiwanese baby chick Lai Guanlin shot all the way up to 2. He feels the burden of being a six month trainee, which means he’s self aware if nothing else because this is a disproportionate and totally unwarranted rise. They can’t actually debut this kid yet along the likes of Jaehwan, Daehwi and Ong-ssi, as much as I like him and think he has potential.

Hilariously though, he asked his CEO to buy them delicious food.

Nation’s Leader Angel GodJonghyun maintains his number 1. Good on you, Wartortle!!

He did his pose as a victory ceremony and apologised to Jihoon. Aw, he’s scared as much as he’s happy, he said.

OUI Kim Donghan was saved by the skin of his teeth at 35. The anticipation to have to wait till the end and the guilt made him cry (Kenta teared up instantly of course).

HIM Park Sungwoo, aka Tip Toe Oppa, was eliminated. He’s handsome but there wasn’t much to back up his hype, I guess.

Wings’ Kim Youngjin and Kiwi Media Kim Dongbin, who survived the last elims on the back of pity votes, were cut. Dongbin dropped to last after that embarrassing rap position battle mission, while Youngjin, who I think showed actual improvement, was eliminated while he was ahead.

Hong Eunki, Lee Insoo, Sangbin, S.How Namhyun, Yoon Heeseok were eliminated.

So were Kiwon, The Vibe Jaechan and my man K-Tigers’ Byun Hyunmin.

There shall be no more acrobatics.

MMO Joo Jinwoo was eliminated too. I mean, I’m thankful he made it as far as he did, but he was so handsome and such a good singer. I hope he gets to debut when MMO prepares their group :(

My poor boy Kim Seonglee too. His voice really was one of my favourites. It had real resonance, and he sounded so well trained, fully in control of his lovely tone. I truly believe he’s too good for this show. I mean, it didn’t even get him any screen time or hype of any sort.

I wonder how FNC will ruin Yoo Hwiseung’s potential idol career for me. He was another person I think could have made it to top 22 at least with more screentime.

Dongsu made everyone cry as he was eliminated at 36. The S.How boys have had a hard time in this industry.

All the tears. Far out.

Woo Jinyoung, he really deserved better, that boy was such a good rapper. Woodam sobbed as they hugged. I almost cried too, but my tears were of sheer bitterness and resentment.

Nation’s Leader GodJonghyun led the bowing to the national producers, with next week (re)splitting the trainees for concept evals.

It’s going to be interesting to see the rankings shift from now. There’s talk of a 2-trainee per voter shift for the system. It’ll throw off the rankings considerably, going off how turbulent this season’s been.

My top 11 after position evaluations

tbh I was randomly putting ppl I recognize after like 8th last time so since more people got screentime (yay), here’s my new list

Again there’s no particular order to this

Lee Daehwi - Incredibly glad that the hate had started to die down and there’re so many positive comments for him. PWF isn’t a great song to showcase vocals, but Daehwi killed it (and so did everyone else). Him trying not be extra and even refusing the center and leader position when it was offered to him is heartbreaking, but at least people are saying he matured. His reactions to the other perf are the most adorable thing ever. Fighting!!

Im Youngmin - Be Mine team 2 was my favourite performance after sorry sorry and I can’t believe I didn’t notice him and donghyun and sewoon were in the group. Boys and Girls was kind of an average perf their rehearsals were so so so much better all in all but he’s such a nice person I can’t help but take a liking in him.

Hong Eunki - Dancing is on point and I can’t express how much I loved that sudden collaboration between him and Jung Jung in ep5. Eunki’s dad needs to open his eyes and see the talents his son have. Really love him for pushing hwanwoong to become center because he deserves it so much more than haknyeon did.

Kim Samuel - Please save him. His dancing is good if nothing else. He might not stand out as much as the others did in Get Ugly but I don’t think he should be last? The way he was crying about thinking he doesn’t have enough talent even if he tried his best is sad. Believe in yourself you’re amazing!

Kim Jaehwan - I actually would have put sewoon but I think no offense he is more suited to debut as an individual singer. He’s a great vocal and they need someone who can hit high notes.

Kang Daniel - He tried really hard to help to fulfill his leader role after their disastrous dance check is really admirable not to mention that he was inspired by Jonghyun which is adorable. Also, have I mention that Daniel basically invented b-boying like wow mate. He’s quite an all rounder too.

Kim Jonghyun (JR) - His crying out of guilt after he was announced first because of the tiniest mistake mnet didn’t even bother to play up is heart-wrenching. I wish Jonghyun was happier. Really the nation’s leader and I swear he’s in a competition with youngmin to see who can be more saintly because their reactions were the same. More than wanting them to be in the final lineup, I hope they succeed with Nu’est after the show, but if one of them gets in I’m hoping it’s him.

Noh Taehyun - Did he deserve 1st in dancing? Hell yes. No matter what I still stand by Shape of You being the best dance performance, and he carried the leader/centre position well.

Ong Seungwoo - Another all rounder. His expression in Get Ugly reminds me of Somi’s Bang Bang lipsync. Put him here just because he needs to debut with Daniel or else my heart will legit break.

Yoon Jisung - He was one of the undecided ones last time, and I did say I don’t think he should be 3rd but the hate he got was undeserved. Plus he’s a good moral booster and his singing is quite decent too.

Jung Jung (Zhu Zheng Ting) - he’s a great dancer and I need to see more collabs between him and Eunki. Just saying. And he deserves higher than 50th.

Honourable mentions: Park Woojin (would have put him there but then everyone from bnm will be there and while I love them I feel like’s it’s slightly unfair), Kim Donghyun (pls save him he did really well in Boys and Girls actually and I’m not ready to see the bnm boys be separated), Park Jihoon (he’s talented but doesn’t have much screentime so i cant really judge?), Lee Gunhee (his big ass mouth and amazing vocals are great but I will have to see more first)

just watched ep 9 without subs bc i decided it was worth it and now i won’t be able to concentrate on anything else today. NEVER HAF ME SO SHOOK literally all of the members in that group are either in my top 11 or one of my faves. also the open it group 🔥🔥🔥 i’m really not ready for any of my faves to leave next week. and all the boys freaking out over hyuna 😂😂😂 and cube chickies with their labelmates  also i’m gonna give my updated top 11(bc lol eunki and jung jung are gone 😭😭)  so in no particular order:  -kim jonghyun (nations leader, cute onibugi talented and selfless i love this boy so much if he’s not the leader of B.O.I istg imma throw hands)  -kim samuel (plz knetz he deserves better than this, literally the trainers have done nothing but praise him (kahi especially) and also the ioi members and bae yoon jung praised him and he’s just so cute and precious)  -kim jaehwan (main! vocal! he’s so good it’s unbelievable pls pls pls)  -lee daehwi (a talented fluffy muffin who deserves the world pls protect him)  -kang daniel (hot hot hot and talented and a cute bunny and cat lover and also pls don’t separate ongniel)  -ong seongwoo (talented meme boy, broduce’s variety teacher 😂(thanks vj pwoojin) pls save him he’s too talented)  -park jihoon (i love my winkboy he’s so cute and also pls samuel jihoon and daehwi are a holy trinity of youth talent visuals and variety pls)  -park woojin (so good and everything and so fluffy and also the boy gave a KILLER performance while sick af pls save him)  -hwang minhyun (pretty voice pretty face v talented also him in the never performance 😭)  -lai guanlin (cute bby chick so cute, improving everyday, swagger rapper idk if he’s fully ready to debut but i love him and so do knetz it seems so i hope he can)  -im youngmin (even tho he’s had so many scandals come out, he’s so talented and a cute alpaca bby)  this was a mix of realistic picks and my faves, i love them all and i hope they can debut but also special shoutout to my bby choi minki who i hope can make it bc i need at least one jren moment before this season ends mnet, and yoon jisung the cute meme boy, and yoon seonho aka hyuna (that troublemaker vid 😂) aka 5 meals a day aka cute bby chick, takada kenta the talented japanese prince, sewoon aka ponyo, seo sunghyuk aka shownu and mingyu hybrid, kang dongho the sexy bandit, and all my other sons who deserve the world. also pls @ all their companies treat eunki, heeseok, jung jung, justin, taemin, woo jinyoung, and all my other bbys well.  i’ve gotten way to invested into this show that i was initially planning to avoid until @jeonwnwoo made me watch ep 1 and i was hooked for good. i’m gonna be a mix of happy and sad no matter what happens so i’ll cheer for my faves and love the final lineup no matter what.

The Future of the Trainees (Part 3)

These are just some opinions about the trainees whose position evaluation stages were already aired, their skills and their chances of passing the elimination/making it into the final group.

Right Round

Joo Haknyeon (Rank 10 -> Rank 9)

Chances – It really seems like Mnet doesn’t want him to debut in the final group. They saw how high his ranking was (#4 in the first episode) and made sure to give him no screentime in the subsequent episodes. Now they noticed that he’s pretty consistently ranking in the Top 11 despite not appearing on the screen for more than a second so they decided to give him an evil edit. Honestly speaking with edits like Haknyeon’s and Hyunbin’s it’s hard to deny that they did at some point make practice harder for the whole team. The problem is that it could’ve been something that lasted for less than an hour before they got their mind back on track or it could’ve been a nuisance for the whole time they had to prepare the stage and Mnet would’ve edited it the same way. My opinion on both of those instances is that tensions are high, everyone’s stressed and they are only human. They get into bad moods; they become uncooperative, bratty, act immature. None of these things are good things, they shouldn’t be encouraged and it’s good that both Haknyeon and Hyunbin got lectured for it. But there’s a difference between bad behavior and a bad person. No one is perfect, I’m sure everyone at some point in their life let their mood affect their work and others and I’m sure everyone hates looking back on those moments. So what Hyunbin and Haknyeon did wasn’t good by any means but it also doesn’t make them monsters that deserve all the backlash in the world. It’s okay if these actioned turned you off from these trainees (although remember that Mnet edits how they please) but there is really no need to spam anyone’s Instagram with hate comments. This probably applies more to Hyunbin’s situation though, because I am not sure how people are going to react to Haknyeon’s incident. I’ve seen some positive comments, I’ve seen some negative comments, but it hasn’t seemed to reach Hyunbin levels yet. Which is good, at this point I will take any number of trainees whose will wasn’t broken by this program. As for the actual incident, I cannot say that I don’t understand where Haknyeon is coming from. He is in the Top 11, sure, but he’s also noticed that he has slipped quite a bit since the first episode. He comes to the correct conclusion that it’s because he hasn’t gotten much screentime and he didn’t really get to shine in the group performance of “Boy in Luv’. He decides to rectify the situation by becoming the center but nothing goes according to plan as the other trainees choose another boy for the position. Haknyeon is 19, worried about his rank and probably (just like everyone else) very stressed. And it shows in his attitude. However, by trying to save his rank, Haknyeon actually gave Mnet the footage they probably needed to make him go down in ranks. On one hand, I cannot believe that he was this careless when he knows that they’re being filmed, on the other hand I cannot imagine how tiring it is to be careful about every move because you know you’re being watched all the time. He’s definitely making it into the Top 22 but I am not so sure about the Top 11 anymore. He got screentime but it wasn’t favorable but people haven’t shunned him yet. It really could go either way. But Mnet does not want him to debut in the final group and I think they will try anything to knock him out of the Top 11. And although I agree with that (explanation will be below), I do feel kind of bad because he does seem like a nice boy. In one fancam of the fanmeeting before or after their ‘Nayana’ performance Haknyeon was the only trainee to thank the staff for clearing out the area. However, I did hear rumors that Cre.Ker will debut a boy group so I’m sure that we’ll be able to see Haknyeon performing in the future.

Skills – I did say he was a sweet boy but I personally don’t think he’s at the skill level where I will be okay with him debuting in the final group. I honestly thought his rank evaluation performance was the worst one (although that’s partially due to his terrible choice of song – I love 1D but ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ isn’t a song for showcasing your b-boying skills). He’s a pretty good dancer and he’s good at his specialty – b-boying, although he hasn’t yet blown me away with it. But I honestly have no idea about his rapping/singing skills. He sounded pretty bad during the rank evaluation, got barely any likes during the group evaluation and is dancing for the position evaluation. I would’ve been able to overlook it if Haknyeon was an absolutely phenomenal dance but as it is I kinda feel like he needs a little more training. Maybe the concept evaluation will show a little more of his skills.

Yoo Hoeseung (Rank 56 -> Rank 36)

Chances – I was really happy to see the Hoeseung went up 20 ranks and was almost in the Top 35 until I realized that he wasn’t going to sing for the position evaluation and got no screentime in the episode. Honestly the first wouldn’t have been a big problem if Mnet had done for Hoeseung what they did for Woodam – shown that he was upset (I am sure he was), that maybe he was struggling but he turned it around for the performance. But as it is all we get is his lip swipe which I am thankful for. I honestly would’ve liked to see him practice for this round (more than the drama Mnet provided that for sure) because he is obviously not a skilled dance. If you pay attention to him, you see that he’s off-beat a couple times and looks stiff doing some moved. But what really impressed me were his expressions. For a person who probably had to really keep all the moved in his head not mess up – the expressions are on point. I am kinda excited for his fancam. I also get the feeling that he is a lot funnier than we got a chance to see and that probably could’ve come up during the concept evaluation episodes when the trainees are a little more laid-back but as it seems we are probably saying goodbye to Hoeseung after the next elimination. I am also not sure about his debuting prospects. FNC is debuting a new boy group this month and Hoeseung is obviously not part of it. Quite a bit time has to pass for the company to be ready to pop out another group so I am really not sure what their plans for Hoeseung are. I hope they don’t throw him to the kurb.

Skills – I mentioned that he is not really a strong dancer and he needs to train a bit more in that area but I would’ve forgiven him for that because boy can sing. I’m glad that they payed attention to it both during the ‘Nayana’ practice and the group battle but his skills were largely ignored by netizens. A real shame.

Hong Eunki (Rank 36 -> Rank 38)

Chances – He is consistent in ranks but also below the cut-off line. Before the first episode came out and I was busy watching the the introduction, eye-contact, meringue time and hidden box videos, I took notice of Eunki (8 minutes of not blinking!!!) but I kinda though that mnet wouldn’t give him much attention. But to my great surprise they actually showed Hongki quite a bit (partially thanks to the fact that he was the first to sit down on the #1 seat – that had to be aired and that probably got some people’s attention). They didn’t gloss over the fact that he was center for the group mission (they could’ve with the Taehyun-Woojin drama they were creating), they’ve shown that he’s a really good dancer and they aired his motional interview about his father and now they didn’t gloss over the fact that he’s the leader of his team (they could’ve). And the edit this episode was favorable to him. While I think it’s far from the ‘good leader’ edits that Jonghyun and Youngmin have received, mainly because the objective was to show Haknyeon in a bad light rather than Hongki in a good one, but it’s still something that allowed viewers to focus on Eungki. He’s so near the cut-off line that his chances of passing the elimination depend on how other trainees are edited. If he does pass I feel like it will be by the skin of his teeth and I don’t see him getting into the Top 22.

Skills – We’ve seen that he is great at his specialty – modern or contemporary (I can’t tell the difference – whatever it is, it’s beautiful) dance, he really shines through with it, him being Dancing King during the filler part of episode 5 was completely deserving. But I am also pleasantly surprised that Hongki seamlessly fits into other dance styles and concepts. He has good stage presence and from what I’ve heard his vocals while not spectacular and quite nice and also very stable.

Byun Hyunmin (Rank 52 -> Rank 44)

Chances – He got quite a bit attention with the ’10 out of 10’ performance because it was perfect for showing off his skills – flips and tumbling – which made him pass the elimination despite ranking in the 70’s in the second and third episodes. And he got to show off his flips again in this performance, and Mnet did show people’s reactions to it but I feel like due to the fact that we’ve already seen it the wow factor has worn off a bit as evidenced by the fact that he came in 4th in the performance. I also feel like the flips fit in a lot better in the ’10 out of 10’ performance. Here they threw so much at us that Hyunmin’s specialty got buried under it all. And it doesn’t help that all the screentime went to Hongki and Haknyeon’s conflict, leaving none for the other members of the group. It’s funny because in the video of the acrobatics class Hyunmin played the lead role, however not everyone is going to watch these videos. So while he did go up in ranking since the 5th episode, I don’t see him making the cut at the next elimination. I don’t know what plans K-Tigers have for this kid but I’m sure we’ll see him performing after the show.

Skills – He’s the best at what he does in the show. But also acrobatics, while a nice bonus for an idol, aren’t really a necessity. Otherwise Hyunmin’s a good dancer, sharp and powerful (probably not super versatile though) and a pretty stable singer. All in all quite well-rounded with a special trick up his sleeve.

Kim Namhyung (Rank 54 -> Rank 47)

Chances – He got no screentime and arguably the least focus during the performance. The latter is understandable as Namhyung’s specialty isn’t dance but I wish that the episode focused on that fact at least a little. They showed Woodam (the poor hamster) getting upset but completely ignored the fact that Namhyung and Hoeseung (and many other trainees but their performances haven’t aired yet) were in the same predicament. And while I think that Namhyung’s a pretty good dancer – especially when the dance required energy and feeling more than having sharp and clean moves as evidenced by the rank evaluation performance – this clearnly wasn’t his moment to shine. I never thought that he would get into the Top 11, I just hoped that he would get what he came for – a chance to get the public interested in Offroad. And while their ranking performance of a self-composed song (how could Mnet not highlight that!) was one of the best ones and Mnet did show it as such, neither member had much of a chance to showcase their abilities after that. Namhyung who’s a rapper wasn’t allowed to rap for ‘Sorry Sorry’ and Dongsu who’s a vocalist was put into the rapper position. In this evaluation Dongsu managed to snatch up a vocal position while Namhyung wasn’t as lucky. And considering, that Dongsu is currently 34th and might get some screentime in the next episode, it seems like the burden of introducing Offroad to the public on his shoulders. I do hope that apart from the experience and the attention from Korean viewers, Namhyung got something else out of the show – confidence in his looks. The blueish hair is such a fantastic look on him and I’m glad he finally ditched the beanie that I feel like represented his insecurities.

Skills – I don’t know much about rap and what makes someone a good rapper but the performance of ‘Goosebumps’ was so memorable to me that he is at the top of my list of rappers this seasons. It’s such a shame that that’s the only performance where we got to see that. I mentioned already that his dancing is perfectly fine and he knows how to put on a good performance. Also a decent vocalist even if he doesn’t need to be.

Yeo Hwangung (Rank 49 -> Rank 54)

Chances – It’s impossible not to be bitter when it comes to talking about Hwangung’s story on this show. He’s been slighted on literally every turn. At the rank evaluation he did a freestyle dance that impressed the trainers enough to give him a B but they only showed a fragment of it. He was one of the trainees (along with Youngmin) who helped the other guys learn the choreography of ‘Nayana’ but Mnet decided to focus on fan-favorite Daniel and we had to find that out from Junyoung (who was so fun and seemed like such a sweetheart). Hwangung was the leader for the group mission but you wouldn’t know that if you weren’t paying attention because he got no focus. Everyone always mentions him as a good dancer but he is mysteriously absent from all dance battles. And now he’s the center for the position evaluation and gets absolutely no screentime. That’s a lie though; he did get one scene – of him praising Noh Taehyun’s skills instead of showcasing his own. Bless Eunki, his heart was in a good place when he wanted to give a talented trainee a chance to shine but by doing that gave Mnet the footage they needed to completely ignore Hwangung. Also I am a bit upset that while Hwangung was in the center a bunch of times during the performance, it was Haknyeon who got a solo part where literally everyone other member was in the back and all eyes were on Haknyeon. No wonder he won first in that performance. And that fact that Hwangung’s rank keeps falling is the proof that viewers just don’t get a chance to see much of him. Is there a reason for this? I personally think that while Mnet allows viewers to see three trainees from companies like Brand New Music and Pledis and two from Cube, they’ve mentally put RBW as a company where only one trainee will get to shine. And they’ve picked Gunhee. In general I’d have to agree with that choice. There are enough well-rounded trainees and really good dancers with high ranks but not a great deal of good singers at the top. I just wish that it wasn’t all or nothing when it came to screentime – some trainees get all the time and all the good editing and others are stuck with nothing. The only silver lining is that RBW will probably debut a new boy group soon with Hwangung in it. Hopefully, they will follow the path of Mamamoo and not the path of the wonderful yet underrated Vromance, and Hwangung will get the spotlight he deserves. Because he’s probably not passing the next elimination.

Skills – Exceptional dancer although Mnet is trying to hide that fact. And just like everyone else from RBW he has good vocals that I would say are above average but not out of this world. Also he has amazing stage expressions.

PS. I already said that I feel like their performance threw too much at the viewers: acrobatics, b-boying, falling on your hands a couple times, a dragon made out of arms – it felt like a showcase more than a performance at times.I also wish that the stage didn’t have that many lights so I could see the dancing more clearly but it probably looked for the audience. It was still a very good performance but far from the ‘Bang Bang’ that Eunki hoped for.

Wow okay…my personal top 11 is comprised of ppl I foundenjoyable to watch and have fun cheering for, I’m a sucker for dumb fools and hiddenstorylines so yeah.

But, man if they put this group together I would screambecause noooomg it would mostly be a comedy troupe than an idol group. theymight as well be called 10gagmen1straightman (10G1S)

yoon jisung- I likedhim ever since ep 1. I think that most, if not all of the trainees were chatteringaway during the auditions but I find that he seems to not really censor hismouth. I think a lot of the trainees are very and tense image conscious (theyshould be due to mnet) and Jisung (and the other MMO guys) were more relaxed. He’s funny but not offensive funny…Iremember like when Daehwi was explaining his avengers team, Jisung was likeyeah, go ahead and eat up all the popular members, Dahewi and JKKSJDKSJKJKSTHAT MAN. He seems like a genuinely fun and nice person to be a round, judgingby how he seems close to both his label-mates and his 10/10 group-mates….anyways📢📢📢I LVOETHIS MAN AND THAT ANTI WHO DM’D HIM TO GET HIM IN TROUBLE CAN SRSLY FCUK OFF!!!📢📢📢

kim taemin - he was so cute in his intro vid but he was sonervous his voice was shaking so much lmao poor thing…. But im fucking….ifthere’s really a meme in this show, it’s taemin…everything they show of him, he’smaking a damn fool of himself. Him screaming in the hiddenbox thing, himfailing to do headstands, him dancing to nayana…yeah I lof the fool!! What reallymade me like him was him acting so surprised and happy when someone called hisname wayyyy back during the first nayana perf. Like….he seemed so amazed to have fans lmao what a gem. He’salso quite photogenic too.

Ong seongwu – THEBEST ALL ROUNDER IMO???????????? He’s a good singer ( hE WAS ONE OF THE 6TRAINEES THAT SANG PICK ME! WITHOUT HIM THERE WOULD BE NO NAYA NA), a great dancer, already has charisma and is hotwhile being complete dork? Amazing. I really adore him and his three moles and I’msuper worried for when the 1-pick voting comes because he doesn’t seem to havea lot of individual fans (someone prove me wrong pls)

Park Jihoon –yeah that wink got me shook. But yeah, srsly speaking, his wink did catch myeye but I thought he was going to be wayyyyyy to cute-ish for my tastes. I wassurprised by the way he carried himself (cute, but not too much, he seems to bevery calm too). Kim Yehyeon – He seemslike a really sweet guy and this story is what basically made me stan him (andgave him that 39+ rank rise) my boy is a fuckin saint he went to the emergencyroom because he was too overworked and he had to perform Be Mine will injured..T_T He did not almost die for no screentime and continuous repeats and zoom-insof ppl gulping….anyways he’s also dumb, you should support

Lee Junwoo – an actualbaby!!!!!!!! He caught my eye in episode 0 but I totally forgot who he wasuntil I saw his famous TATATA dance. What I liked about him was that he didn’t completelygive up after messing up and he kept on going hard @ the dance (he even made itto a C despite those mistakes!) he’s an awesome dancer and has good expressions!I really look forward to seeing his Shape of You stage (I think) I heard it wassupposed to be real good. I’m also screaming because he looks like a baby is ashuge as an elephant IRL 184CM HOOOLLLLLY

kim yongguk – I gotto know him because of that pann post and I support and adore him so much butnot as much as kim sihyun does!!!!! He’s a pretty nice vocalist and pretty goodsinger..but I think because baekho stole the entire stage, it’s hard to judgehis stage presence, I really do lookforward to seeing his stage and seeing him be more of a savage!

Ahn hyungseop – Ilove him, he’s such a textbook slyth, he even expressed disappointment ingetting a lower rank than before. I can see why ppl don’t like him (similar todaehwi) but I really do adore him and his quirky ways. While I think he’s agood performer, I do think he would be more a B-rank rather than A. I’m stillnot quite convinced of his singing just yet….

Joo Haknyeon – tbh,I feel like he was born to be an idol with a face like that, I think it has amore idol-ish feel than Jihoon’s. I find that he’s a really decent dancer too!I do wish he had a better audition song…like why’d u choose that song and b-boyto it omf. He seems to be a total sweetheart as well! Hanywayz…..i wanna seemore of his friendship with ong, they seem to be good friends as well Y_Y @mnetGIV EHIM MORE SCREENTIME.

Yoo Seonho – it’sa surprised to me how much I like him?? He’s so cute and harmless lmao. I can totallysee why he was casted, along with guanlin, and sent out despite being only trainees for 6 months. they will super popular in thefuture (if cube doesn’t fuck up). I’m not really expecting much from him, beinga 6 month trainee, but he did surprisingly ok in sorry sorry compared to hisexperience, I’m looking forward to seeing his next stage. He also seems to be agreat guy, judging by his fanaccs and activities.

Yeo Hwanung – he’sa great dancer and stable vocalist, why is he being slepton?????????????????????? He seems super sweet and patient with Justin too likegoing through the notes together…

hennyways……here’s my top final 11 AKA B.O.I. …sorta. I thinkit’ll probably change after the next eps as people come to prove themselvesmore!! But this group, I’ll be pretty comfortable with them debuting and confident that they will be able to handle different concepts, all can carry their weight, etc. (in noparticular order)

Ong Sungwoo – HAHAHAHA iLL SERIOUSLY QUIT THIS GROUP IF ONGDOESN’T GET IN LIKE SRSLY HE’S GOT IT ALL I’m SO FUKCING SCARED OF HIS FUTURE THAT’SHOW MUCH I LOVE HIM???

Kang Daniel – He’s another well rounder. So he seems like areal sweet person but he ( along with Ong ) don’t really seem to take shit fromppl and I like that they speak there mind, though I want him to be careful ofhis actions as well LMAO. He’s also a fuckn miracle worker, my friend went fromdisliking him in ep2 to being a full stan by ep5 so I think he seems to be aperson that would keep fans engaged for a long time.

Park Jihoon – Yeah, I’m kinda being biased, but he’d doreal well as a stan attractor! He dancing is good and I feel like he’ll improveon his singing soon….okay enough…

Kim Jaehwan – holyyy shit his voice is sooo good. All theguys in sorry sorry team 2 were good, but the dude carried the vocals for histeam, lbr. Im sincerely hoping he pulls up into the final 11, the vocals would get a huge upgrade holy shit son.

Im Youngmin – alpacaaaaa aaaaaa!! He’s growing on me somuch and seems to be a very kind person, teaching the be mine moves foreveryone. I love that group so much, they seem genuinely close to each other !! His rapping is good and he seems to be quitecharismatic on stage

Kim Taedong – His jump from F to A holyyyy shit whattaman!!! His moves are sharp and he’s astable singer, I’m really liking what I’m seeing from him so far. I think he’s real idol material and he seems likea complete dork too, I loff!!!!!!

Yoon Heeseok, lmaoooo he’s also another living meme. He’san excellent singer, I really want him to work on his dancing a bit though but heseems to be improving quite nicely, from F-B. his shoulders are also killer.

Lee Daehwi – Another all-rounder. He doesn’t deserve thehate he gets, I honestly hope he makes it, he has the skills and personality tomake it into the idol world. He’s a sweet boy.
