#Dublin riots

The far right have started serious riots in Dublin in response to a stabbing by an immigrant.
I don’t even need to go into how him being an immigrant is fucking irrelevant, and making this about your fascist opinions is taking away the attention from the actual victims. You guys are smarter than to fall for that.
Gangs of white Irish men are destroying the city; setting cars, buses, and shops on fire. They’re posting videos of them laughing as they smash out the windows of buses and shops and loot the place.
This is the right wing’s politics. “Immigrants are destroying Dublin”… says the people actively smashing the place to bits.
Please stay inside if you live in the centre. Especially for immigrants/ people of colour/ trans people / queer people/ any group that white supremacists target.

I am ashamed of this country. We preach how welcoming we are, how the Irish can get along with anyone. I don't feel welcomed. I am Asian. I am of Irish nationality. And I am afraid. You set your streets ablaze to send a message. What message? That you want to protect your women and children? From who exactly? From what? The Luas is on fire. The shops are smashed into. Small local businesses are barricading themselves. The night sky is orange and red. You are terrifying. You are filling this country with monsters. How do we move forward from this?

My sister had to walk home from town because there were no busses available due to all the violence. So this is your friendly reminder that the people rioting are only pretending to care about the safety of women and children because a lot of women and children were unable to get home safely tonight as a result of the riots. My sister was lucky that halfway home, her roommate was able to pick her up and drive her the rest of the way. You know who wasn't lucky? My brothers friend who happens to be a poc. She walked out of work today, completely unaware of what was going on, and some fella ran straight up to her, punched her in the face, and ran away. This woman did nothing wrong. She got up this morning, went to work and then the second she stepped outside, she got attacked.
The people rioting in Dublin today are nothing more than far right, fascist scum.

Ah lads.
What's happening in Dublin tonight is utter unabashed selfishness and utilising a tragedy in the name of lawlessness.
For anyone out of the loop, Dublin in Ireland had an atrocious incident today where people, including children, were stabbed outside a school. The male suspect was arrested. No one else is sought in relation to this incident.
A 5-year-old little girl is undergoing emergency treatment. There's no excuse nor reason for it. It was outrageous and horrendous. Rumours have spiraled of the male suspect being a so-called 'non-national'. So what? A criminal is a criminal, the back ground doesn't matter.
But the riots and protests in the capital city in the so-called name of that little girl are a charade for people looting and attacking Gardaí. The Irish police force are 95% unarmed; specialist units have firearms and a range of non-lethal weapons. Regular on the street Gardaí have pepper-spray and a retractable baton, that's it. But these allegedly 'protesting' people are isolating Gardaí, beating them up, assaulting them, setting fire to police cars, public buses, public trams, looting shops, setting off fireworks at officers and threatening to kill immigrants.
This is wrong.
And it's a sad day for Ireland when the people on the dole and job-seekers are the ones who are setting a reputation for our country, not the law-abiding people just trying to get by.
A little girl and others were stabbed by a man who was immediately arrested and prevented from doing any more harm. How does looting shops and assaulting people just doing their jobs really stand up for that 5 year old?

I’ve never felt patriotic. I’m just not that type of person. But today I feel disgusted. Disgusted at people who call themselves Irish and destroy the Capital city that they so desperately say “Foreigners are destroying” its fucking disgusting. The only people destroying Ireland are the Irish that have forgotten themselves. This is a country of immigrants. Go to Australia, Canada or the US what will you find? A fuck load of Irish people.
To anyone who might be out there feeling unsafe here. I’m sorry. I’m sorry my home has treated you like this. I’m sorry that the disgusting nature of some of the people in this country has made you feel like this. I’m just feeling so sad. Never patriotic. But I will say after tonight I’m disgusted to be Irish.

My country was set ablaze last night. I have opinions on the #DublinRiots, that I don't believe I can fully articulate yet. But to summarise:
Fuck fascists. Fuck Conor McGregor Fuck bigotry. The Alt Right is cancer.

I actually can't explain the sickness I felt hearing about the Dublin City riots last night. Absolutely so shameful to the Irish people. This is how we treat immigrants to our country, when there are countless Irish emigrants all over the world?
Rioting for the sake of rioting. Violence is never the answer. What kind of a country are we that people of non-Irish ethnic origin are now afraid to take public transport to work in Dublin City?
Absolutely disgraceful. Ruining the welcoming reputation of our country for nothing. Those riots benefited no one.
I feel sick.

It’s getting so scary in Dublin. Every other day there’s an attack. Last night there was a MACHETE attack caught on camera.
The perpetrators are all white Irish men, who think they own the city, of course. When they’re the ones actively making this city worse.
All there is to stay safe is to avoid going out late at night if possible. If you have to, walk with at least one other person.
Self defence tips are great and you can find loads of videos online. But it’s kind of hard to rely on them when you’re not trained directly by a professional. Not everyone can afford actual classes.
As well as that, a lot of the tips require you to have some form of strength training anyways to be able to put enough force into it. Which again, not everyone can go to the gym/ work out.
Also for people like me whose physical disability makes them much weaker than the average person. Like even with all the tips and tricks, realistically I won’t have the strength to fight someone off.
So weapon carrying can be the only thing to make you feel safe. I know this as a visibly trans and queer person, with other trans friends who do the same. Especially trans women. I swear if you need self defence tips go to them, because the unfortunate reality is they have to be ready at any moment for attacks. As a trans man it’s so much easier for me to walk the streets than them.
The issue with this however is that basically all weapon carrying is illegal in Ireland. Which I agree with, if it also came with preventing fascist white men from attacking people of colour/ immigrants/ women/ queer people/ trans people. If they’re attacking us with weapons, why can’t we attack back with weapons?
This is just what me and my friends personally do, so don’t necessarily take advice from me. But some of us carrying Swiss Army knives because they’re legal to buy. They’re really not designed for self defence, but it’s what we have!
I also have a fake switch blade that’s a “comb”. It’s pretty shitty as a comb. But yeah like it’s proper metal and heavy in your hand. And it flips up like an actual switch blade when you press a button. The comb is long, rectangular, and metal. It wouldn’t function as a weapon, but the point is it looks like one. Especially at night or if you just show it without flipping it up. You can get them on amazon, and they’re not too expensive.
The issue with carrying these things is that if you defend yourself it can be argued in court that you were a perpetrator looking to attack your attacker. But honestly if it means the difference between life and death, it might be worth it.
Feel free to add on with corrections or tips!

"You don’t get to be racist and Irish You don’t get to be proud of your heritage, plights and fights for freedom while kneeling on the neck of another! You’re not entitled to sing songs of heroes and martyrs mothers and fathers who cried as they starved in a famine Or of brave hearted soft spoken poets and artists lined up in a yard blindfolded and bound Waiting for Godot and point blank to sound We emigrated We immigrated We took refuge So cannot refuse When it’s our time To return the favour Land stolen Spirits broken Bodies crushed and swollen unholy tokens of Christ, Nailed to a tree (That) You hang around your neck Like a noose of the free Our colour pasty Our accents thick Hands like shovels from mortar and bricklaying foundation of cities you now stand upon Our suffering seeps from every stone your opportunities arise from Outstanding on the shoulders of our forefathers and foremother’s who bore your mother’s mother Our music is for the righteous Our joys have been earned Well deserved and serve to remind us to remember More Blacks More Dogs More Irish. Still labelled leprechauns, Micks, Paddy’s, louts we’re shouting to tell you our land, our laws are progressively out there We’re in a chrysalis state of emerging into a new and more beautiful Eire/era 40 Shades Better Unanimous in our rainbow vote we’ve found our stereotypical pot of gold and my God it’s good. So join us.. 'cause You Don’t Get To Be Racist And Irish."

as an irish person who, like the school attacker, is of north african extraction, I do wish foreign media would stop trying to frame the dublin riots as a race riot or proof that ireland is becoming far right.
perhaps a minority of people in that crowd were anti immigration right wingers (the ones who organised the "protest" in the first place), but I guarantee the majority were the usual anti social scrotes who saw an opportunity to steal and cause havoc and took it. far right events get abysmally low turn outs in ireland - like less than 100 in attendance. this, after all, is a country that was founded by socialists on anti-imperialist ideals with a long history of immigration. far right views simply will never appeal to most people who are proud of their country and history.
the inner city of dublin has had a problem with anti social behaviour for years. lots of young men (and some women, but mostly men) who have never had a job in their life, whose parents never worked either, who spend their days selling and buying drugs, robbing, and getting into fist fights. the majority of people who were in that crowd likely don't care about immigrants either way. these are opportunistic scumbags who have likely already mugged people, shoplifted, and vandalised property in the past and took their chance to loot and set things on fire. they're not trying to start a race war, they're just regular scumbags who used the anti immigration schtick for a night in order to cause chaos.
I feel no less safe here as a person of north african origin than I did before (in the words of my mama - "why the fuck should I be afraid to go to town?!"). I look forward to beginning my christmas shopping in dublin next week as usual

Well, Dublin has been burned by racist thugs. Any people of colour, immigrants and queer people please stay safe, more seems planned for today.
(Footage taken by a classmate unlucky enough to be in town at the time.)
What has this country come to?

There are riots going on in the streets
Prisoners tortured, mothers raped, children executed
The systematic genocide of a people is real and will not stop
"Yeah, not at the dinner table"
There are riots going on in the street
Like in Vietnam, like in Afghanistan, like in Chicago, China, and south Africa
They scream the cry of a people held down and ostracised
"Yeah, we get it. Would you ever shut up?"
There are riots going on in the streets
For the valient, the oppressed, the marginalised, and those who want change despite the greed of those in power
This is their push back
"Why are you always so negative? What about all the good stuff that's happening?"
There are riots going on in the streets
Some racist idiots got worked up over an unrelated incident
They wanted an excuse. I want them to shut up
"What do you mean you don't care!? That's right by here! What if they hurt us!?"

It’s real cute seeing Ireland riot over foreign immigrants when the entirety history of Irish immigration can be summed up in the phrase “No Irish need apply”
