Activity - August

In the last week of August, I went on a hiking trip across the Tatra Mountains with my father. We went from the polish side to the Slovakian side as follows: Dolina Pięciu Stawów, Morskie Oko, Rysy, Chata pod Rysmi, Ślązki dom. It was very hard because of the weather conditions (a lot of rain), heavy (about 20kg) backpack, and I hurt my Achilles tendons a bit during the trip.

1. Favourite place in your country?

I love Polish mountains. Morskie Oko, Dolina Pięciu Stawów, Dolina Chochołowska- breathtaking. Also places called open-air museums are so beautiful- the idea is to see how people lived ages ago and for me it's like taken out straight from the movies or books (or The Witcher game, just to give you the idea how it looks like haha). And I love Gdańsk, Wrocław & Kraków, I think they're the most beautiful cities, especially Gdańsk, it looks like Novigrad (damn, stop mentioning The Witcher!!). I love walking the streets of Old City and admiring the architecture or you can literally walk to see the sea or some of the forests here. Hard for me to choose only one but this is probably my top haha

7. Three words from your native language that you like the most?

I loooove Polish language and there's a lot of words that I like but probably kołysanka (lullaby), szept (whisper) and sztylet (dagger) are my faves.

16. Which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?

Apparently Poles are thieves- I have no idea who came up with this and why but if that was ever a thing- it's no longer the truth. Stereotype I agree with... hm, that we drink a lot? We're not drinking as much as we used to (speaking of history and reasons behind our excessive drinking + change of drinking culture here) but we still drink a lot in comparison to others. We're drinking only on occasions but we're masters of making up the occasions, so... and I think we have high alcohol tolerance, so we easily outdrink everyone and that may be the reason for this stereotype.

17. Are you interested in your country’s history?

Totally! I think our history is one of the things we can be proud of, there's a lot going on, constant fights for our independence and helping other countries... there's a lot going on. I feel like many people in Poland are interested in it, we celebrate a lot of historical events every year and I'd say it's just huge part of us as a nation. I really enjoy visiting museums and learning new things about past, so having my best friend- a historian and my brother- an archeologist helps with that haha
