Ok so when are you going to make a role swap of Disney heroes and villains?
Haha I had done them quite a while back on some other platforms but I definitely should re-draw them now that I’m much better🖤
I think once I’ve completed the Disney NextGen I’ll work on the role reverse series again.
Here were some previous ones, which came with its own altered story :

Sooo... I just got my Hazbin Trading cards...
And was anyone else aware that Charlie apparently wields an actual fucking PITCHFORK as her weapon?!!
Tumblr media
Yeah I am now entirely convinced that Charlie is, or will end up becoming, the actual DEVIL of the Hazbin-verse.
Tumblr media
And I think that is fucking awesome XD

[ID: a screenshot of a drawing made in procreate. The drawing is of Hunter and Willow from the owl house as Aurora and Philip from Sleeping Beauty. Willow is Aurora and Hunter is Philip. They're dancing, with him holding her from behind by the wrist. She looks surprised and he looks nervous. A filter is applied to the image to give it the grainy texture of a screenshot and the background is grey. End ID]
Also posting this before I forget. I watched sleeping beauty this week hehehe

Mermaid!AU where as a boy Fingon saves a wounded merman with long red hair who was beached and tangled in a net. He helps free the merman and return him to the sea, and as thanks he gives him a golden ribbon that has some of his brilliant red scales dangling from the end.
Fingon takes that ribbon and hides it, not wanting to share his merman with anyone else, and as he ages he would have thought the encounter was a dream if not for that ribbon.
One night, on his 25th birthday, he wears that ribbon in his hair, and he and his siblings and cousins go sailing around the islands that make up their home in celebration. The party is loud and joyful and the fireworks over the ocean are brilliant. Except something goes wrong and suddenly, the boat has caught fire.
Fingon, as the eldest, makes sure all his siblings and cousins are on a row boat and safely away from the blaze, but before he can jump overboard to swim to one, a piece of the mast falls and hits him in the head right before he jumps. Fingon slips into the ocean, unconscious as his family screams for him.
Unknown to the humans above, King Feanaro's seven sons circle underneath. Celegorm and his pet shark are more than happy to feast on the unlucky sailors in this shipwreck, Maglor prepares a sirens song to lure those in the row boats into the depths, while Caranthir, Curufin, and Ambarussa wait to loot the sucken vessel.
Maedhros, the eldest of the sons and crown prince of the seven seas, is the first to see Fingon in the water. At first, he is entranced by the beauty of the drowning human, how the fire light overhead dances across his unconscious face. Maedhros swims closer, and his silver eyes widen when he sees his ribbon and scales in the hair of this unconscious man, the very gift he gave away years ago to a young boy that saves his life. A boy that must have grown up into a man since then. This man.
Maedhros calls off his brothers, sends them back home as he drags the mortal back up to the surface. The least he can do for the man's valiant efforts is to repay them. He sings as he swims, urging thr waves to help the swiftly reach the shore, to take them for enough out that he won't be washed back in with the tide.
On the sandy beach, Maedhros looks down at the mortal man and feels something in his very soul sing out. He is no singer, not like his younger brother Maglor, but he is a merman and does have the ability to attempt to put that feeling into song. As he sings to this man, coaxing the water out of his lungs and to heal the wounds on his head, Fingon wakes a little.
Fingon hears the most enchanting voice as he comes back to wakefulness. His eyes are bleary with salt water when he tries to open them, but he sees red hair and glowing grey eyes and his heart swells. He almost forgot those features, hazy like a long forgot dream that they are. Weakly, he reaches up to brush a red strand away from sharp cheekbones. He hums along so the melody that is imprinting itself into his heart, not aware that the same is happening to the merman above him.
Hearing him sing, it unlocks something is Maedhros, something he didn't know he was missing. Impulsively, he bends down, breathing in the same air as this mortal, his mortal, and pressea his forehead against the brown skin under him. Nothing but breath and Song and the waves lapping at the shore.
Then, shouts in the distance. Voices calling out a name. "Fingon!" They cry.
The man, Fingon, Maedhros knows now, just blinks. Brought back to reality with the sound of his brothers and sister's frantic calling. Between one blink and the next, the being above him is gone, a splash the only signal of where he disappeared too.
Fingon scrambles to sit up, hoping to catch another glimpse. In the distance, highlighted by the red dawn rising, a flash of red scales glint before they vanish below the waves.

I hate that I saw the trailer for the Disenchanted cause I was so obsessed with Enchanted since I was a kid, but the trailer was stupid and basically summed up the whole story and I left right after she starts turning u-know-what but like there isn't much wiggle room from there on out anyway and now that the element of surprised is gone so is my excitement to watch it
and listen I've been waiting for this sequel for years, I was out there searching 'will enchanted have a sequel?' for a while

Pick a Pile / March Epiphanies
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Images from Instagram & @hikayelertukendii
PILE 1 - White Tulips
Pile 1 - 6 of Pentacles Reversed, Page of Wands, Knight of Cups, Nine of Wands, Ten of Swords Reversed
Miracles, Strength, Tenacity, Fortitude, End of Suffering
You are stronger than you know. I’m getting the image of the Disney movie, Hercules. He is raised by his mortal parents, always having to be careful with his strength and abilities. However, in this time, it’s like you are coming “online” to the fact that this is your authentic identity. No more “being careful”, no more hiding. You’re taking a leap in something, even if you’re scared. As soon as you take that leap, I see miracles being rained down on you! Yes, babe!! You are leaning into your strong leadership role. You’re being your true self, even if you’ve been told that you are usually “too much” for people. Let those people go find less. You are embracing who you are now. You are loving yourself. You are filling your own cup. You should be so so proud of yourself! I’m proud of you <3
Oracle Cards: Quiet Your Mind, My Heart is Open to Love, Radiate Confidence
These tell me that you should take time to regularly meditate or pray. Everyday. Your thoughts become things, so make sure you’re quieting your mind daily. This will bring out your best timeline. Grounding will make you more confident, less anxious. Embracing your authenticity will open your heart up to love. Loving yourself, loving others, attracting a romantic partner. This will all culminate for you, as you *actively* participate in bringing it in. Spirit and the Universe/God, is always here for you. They are cheering you on as you enter this new chapter!
Song for Pile 1: Can I Jump? - Freya Ridings
PILE 2 - Red Tulips
Pile 2 - Five of Cups Reversed, The Emperor, Three of Pentacles, Queen of Pentacles
This will be a month for you to release a toxic ex or situationship. This connection left you out in the cold. It was all you initiating and desiring (ie. You doing everything, and them not doing sh*t) Too one sided. You might have met them at work, like you two work together, or you went to their place of business looking for a service and met them (like the barista at your local coffee shop). But here’s the thing, your attention was only the first way they were *taking* from you. You were also giving your power away by giving their establishment money (examples that I’m getting: paying for coffee, continually going to them to groom your dog, going to them for some sort of healing service - chiropractor, reiki, massage). And they just kept taking! Bc they knew you liked them and their ego was getting stroked. But not anymore!! With the Queen of Pentacles and The Emperor I’m seeing you taking your power back! They were bleeding you dry, keeping you disempowered, until you reached a big mental shift and energetic upgrade (could be peaking this month!) Finally you are coming out of the cold (this pile is the only one where the flowers are in the snow - coincidence? I think not). You are choosing yourself. You are realizing that you are worth more. You are worth reciprocal energy exchanges. You are worth receiving as well as giving. You are worth the Sun being shone on YOU instead of the other way around all of the time. Yes, babe! I’m loving this for you!
Oracle Cards: I Release All Negative Energy, Surrender to the Spirit Energy, Strong Brave Bold, You Will Not Stand in the Shadow of Another
The Oracle cards even speak of this being a negative/toxic connection. Actively work on releasing it (cord cutting ceremonies, meditation, journaling), they are not worthy of you boo! You are strong, brave and bold and sometimes people see that, and instead of being *attracted* to it in a romantic way, they are drawn to it in a way that brings forth envy. They want to take it from you. But like these Oracle Cards say, You will NOT stand in the shadow of another! It’s giving…self respect okay! Move on and watch your glow up explode!!
Song for Pile 2: We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) - Ariana Grande
PILE 3 - Lilac Tulips
Pile 3 - Strength, Four of Wands Reversed, Six of Pentacles Reversed, Queen of Swords Reversed, Ace of Swords
3 out of your 5 cards came out reversed. You’re definitely laying something down now. “Laying down the struggle” is what just came through. In the deck that I’m using, even your upright Ace of Swords is showing a hand dropping the sword. You’re not fighting anymore. You’re done making life hard. I’m getting this visual of that old Disney movie The Sword and the Stone. In all of your cards, your swords and your wands are pointing down, they’re falling. I’m seeing them fall into the stone from that movie. And then you come along, with all of your innate intuitive power, and pull them out. You are making what hurt you, now *work* for you. You better get it, fam. Side note: when I looked up that movie, the year really called out to me. It was made in 1963, and when I look up the angel number 1963 online it says “Angel Number 1963 asks you to trust and believe that you will always have plenty to care for yourself and your loved ones. Know that you are able to confidently serve your life purpose and soul mission with your wants and needs being met along the way. The angels and Universal Energies will ensure that your material needs are always met in Divine right time. Trust that the Universe provides all.” [Sacred Scribes blogspot] Which brings me to the energy of the Strength card. On my deck, strength is represented by the bull. Very much like a Taurus. You may have a Taurus Mars {the planet of action and doing) or you may have a lot of Taurus or fixed energy in your birth chart. Either way, this is telling me that everything is going at the pace in which it should. Divine timing is at play right now. I’m feeling like some of you may have been feeling frustrated by how long this “healing journey” has been going on for you. Peep what the oracle messages had for you “everything will reveal itself in time”.
Oracle Cards: My Destiny Will Reveal Itself in Time, Surrender to the Spirit Energy, Consider All Your Options Before Acting, Let Go of Things That No Longer Serve You
There is healing happening here. You are surrendering. You are trusting the divine timing of it all. And if you’re *not* doing that, then the message here is for you to lean more into that this month. It is imperative for your growth and ascension. In life we must let go of things, people, environments that no longer serve us. It’s sad but it’s true, not everyone is meant to go with you on this journey. Consider your options. Trust your intuition. Don’t let others make your decision for you. Make the decisions and life choices that will make your heart happy. In doing so, you will let go of a lot of hurt and strife that you are no longer meant to be experiencing, love. You’ve got this!!
Song for Pile 3: Now is the Hour - The 1975
DM me for personal/private readings or if you’d like to dive deeper into one of these piles! Until next time -xo

Moments from "Once Upon a Studio" that I adored
Mickey kindly offered Oswald to take first place in the group photo, telling him "After you!". Oswald happily thanked him by tipping his head to him.
That entire ending was perfect. I love how the "When You Wish Upon a Star" number began with Alan-a-Dale strumming his lute on top of the building, and then Scat Cat, Mirabel, and Junior join in before the singing begins. The build-up to Jiminy Cricket was great.
Belle and Beast singing together! In the original film, they had separate verses in "Something There" so it was nice that they shared a small duet. Paige O'Hara and Robby Benson did a great job!
Quasimodo singing! I'm glad to hear Tom Hulce in the role of Quasi again. James Baxter did a terrific job animating him once again.
Scuttle interrupts Ariel's verse only for Baloo to shut him up and share a sweet bonding moment with Mowgli.
There's something incredibly poetic about Snow White holding hands with Mulan and Asha as they sing together. Disney Studios owes a lot of its success to its princess characters, and it was cool to see three generations of female protagonists (the original, the Renaissance era in the 1990s, and the most recent era).
Winnie the Pooh's presence in general. I love how Christopher Robin and the others have to help him out of the picture frame, recreating the rabbit hole scene. Also, Pooh singing "Fate steps in, and sees you through" at the end and Tigger pouncing on him really got to me.
Cinderella and Prince Charming going down the stairs and Charming loses his shoe. The role reversal was cute enough, but after snatches the shoe, they go into silly mode with Prince Charming shouting "Eric, get your dog!" and Cinderella enabling the situation by saying "Go, Max, go!" It's incredibly endearing to see Prince Charming have a sense of humor and Cinderella happily going along with the shenanigans.
Antonio with the other animal characters and telling Joanna not to eat Jacques and Gus. Pluto coming in to save the mice was nice too.
Incorporating the archival audio from Robin Williams's recording as Genie.
The fifteen puppies watching the "Night on Bald Mountain" segment from Fantasia and Chernabog pops out of the screen. I also noted the various "Art of" books of their feature films on the cabinet surrounding the television.
Hearing Nathan Lane as Timon again and calling Olaf "Frosty".
Robin Hood and Little John snatching Scrooge McDuck's money bags and reveling in their victory. Oo-de-lolly!
The Wreck-It Ralph cameos! Vanellope on her race car, Ralph calling Mickey "Garfield" and Fix-It Felix fixing Goofy's camera. All in character and perfect.
Mickey's gang having their time in the spotlight. Donald trying to go down a crowded elevator, Goofy working as the photographer (may or may not be a subtle nod to his occupation in A Goofy Movie), and even Clarabelle has a moment.
It was nice seeing some representation for their shorts (Ben and Me, Johnny Appleseed) and their overlooked films (The Black Cauldron, Home on the Range, Chicken Little, and Dinosaur). Even if they didn't have any dialogue, their presence alone certainly counts.
Highlighting the artists that contributed to the studio. Burny Mattinson's cameo at the beginning was nice, and though Walt Disney himself was very much a complicated person (staunchly anti-union being one of them), the moment of Mickey staring at his portrait was genuine enough (Mickey says a simple "thanks" before he joins the rest of the characters). The framed photographs of various artists throughout the halls was also nice (I'm sure the actual building has those framed pictures of their former employees). I would have been a lot more critical of the short if many of the presence of the other artists weren't felt in the studio.
Overall, it was a great short! It was a beautiful love letter to the animation studio and its characters. I'm glad that they didn't incorporate any Pixar stuff and even flaunt their acquired assets (Star Wars, Marvel, etc.). It was just about celebrating their original animated works and the large catalog of characters. The animation was also fantastic and it was cool seeing the 2-D characters interact with the CG characters in a way that felt natural. I greatly appreciate the effort and love that was put into the short.

Tangled Unbraided
For ages I've wanted to find a way to use the old fractured fairytale idea of "Rapunzel Unbraided" Disney was going to do in the early 2000s, and decided to just go ahead and show what I've got. So here's some sketches of how the main characters would appear in this hypothetical Tangled spin off movie:
Tumblr media
The original synopsis for Unbraided ran as thus:
“An evil witch named Lucretia despised fairy tale happy endings and plotted to change all that. Meanwhile in modern day San Francisco, Claire and Vince are two vastly opposite teenagers who cannot stand one another. Claire is a short haired, fashion obsessed teen who was concerned with her looks. Vince is a stocky and crude pizza delivery boy on hard times. The two of them get on each other's nerves which gets the attention of Lucretia in the fairy tale realm. Lucretia takes Rapunzel and her prince Beau and transforms them into a squirrel and dog, respectively, while Claire and Vince find themselves filling their roles. Claire and Vince eventually team up with Rapunzel and Beau to defeat Lucretia and return to their respective places in time. “
---
And I'd want to follow the basic plot of that, though with changes with what we have from the actual Tangled movie. But basically two teens from 2007 San Francisco (why not make it a 'period' piece with all this Y2K nostalgia going on that makes no sense to me, a Y2K kid x) get reverse Enchanted and find themselves in the Everrealm. Searching for a way home, mentored by a talking squirrel and dog that claim to be famous fairytale characters also trying to regain their human forms.
The reason the witch tries to recreate the Rapunzel story with two people who are unlikely to give it a happy ending is that she's trying to make a spell to warp reality and bring about another golden flower (so that we can have the one that eventually shows up in Sofia the First) and so gain immortality for herself.
My ideas for the growth journeys each character goes on in this hypothetical movie is of course that Claire and Vince both learn to be more comfortable with themselves/find their real potential, as well as learn that its ok to trust others emotionally, both in a platonic sense with Eugene and Rapunzel mentoring them, and romantically with eachother as they get closer.
Rapunzel and Eugene would have this be an opportunity for them both to work through the concerns they both have about being parents. Sure they both have better parental relationships now, but both grew up with either abusive or absent parents (and then hyper protective ones in Rapunzel's case with Frederick) and though they both want kids they're afraid they might still mess it up. So, getting to help these two teens find themselves and their way home gives them a sense of the type of parents they'll be, and that they'll be ok in the end.
(They also all eventually find out Claire is their many times descendent and thats why she looks like Rapunzel so much, and why the spell called her into Rapunzel's place)
For the Witch I decided to change her name from Lucretia as I already had a character with that name for the Bluebeard story. I still wanted her to have some actual connection to the og Rapunzel fairytale, and a way to know about the Sundrop flower, and while I know we already had Cass as Gothel's kid, per my DisneyVerse she did have more then one over those many many years 😅😬
We already had a benevolent version of another Gothel daughter with my rewrite of Ginny, so I decided this time we'd get to focus on a malevolent one, so our villain for this story is Azalea.
Tumblr media
(I based her looks on one of the tree nymphs from Gothel's backstory in OUAT, old Gothel/witch concept art and her name was inspired by Alice from OUAT being Gothel's daughter, just with a sharper sounding plant name x)
Also here's some original concept art of the Rapunzel Unbraided story treatment!
Tumblr media
(Some of these might technically be from the Rapunzel treatment but I feel they fit the story anyway)
Tumblr media
Also some video! A rough animatic overview of the whole story
youtube
And a more polished small clip of Claire and Squirrel Rapunzel
youtube
But yeah that's my rough little idea of how I'd incorporate the Rapunzel Unbraided concept/characters into the Disneyverse :)

Random thought:
With Disney's current obsession over challenging their old tropes and more active heroines who take control of their destiny, why haven't we had a role-reversal fairy tale from them yet?
You know, like a heroic princess who saves a young man from an evil villain. Disney has a LOT of dudes in distress, no doubt, but not any who are rescued in the traditional "damsel" sense by their love interest. They always either rescue themselves or are helped by their sidekick or both. The closest is MAYBE Return to Neverland, but that's stretching the idea. I'm honestly surprised they have yet to make a movie that completely swaps the roles.
Hey! People obsessed with rewriting their favourite childhood movies and tropes as fantasy romance fiction on booktok! Get on it!

Sydcarmy & Beauty and The Beast
So, The Bear is a story with many themes and messages in it. The process of creating a story a lot times is just frankenstein-ing other stories and elements you like plus your owned lived experience.
I don't really remember how I started thinking about it, I do remember it was like 3am so that definitely has something to do with it, but I started thinking about Beauty and The Beast. And then I started comparing certain elements of it with The Bear. And then I started reading the Wikipedia page for Beauty and The Beast. And then I looked at the clock and it was like 4am so I was like okay, I should sleep now actually.
I did notice a lot of interesting similarities between the two, so I wanted to compare some of them in this post here. I think it's a really interesting lens to look at the story of The Bear from.
Chapter 1: The Beast
So, while it would be cool to do some kind of role reversal with the two romantic leads, this story does not do that, and the obvious parallel for Carmy is The Beast.
Rundown of The Beast's character traits, via wikipedia:
"In the original tale, the Beast is seen to be kind-hearted for the most part, and gentleman-like, with only an occasional tendency to be hot-tempered. Disney's interpretation of the Beast made him more constantly angry and depressed, due to the shame from his unkind actions which led to his transformation, and particularly his struggle of reconciling his hideous appearance with his inner humanity which made him feel hopeless about breaking the curse. Supervising animator Glen Keane describes The Beast as "a twenty-one-year-old guy who's insecure, wants to be loved, wants to love, but has this ugly exterior and has to overcome this." Upon his reform under his love interest Belle, his personality changes to refined and more even-tempered, while naive about the world at the same time."
Obviously this isn't to shame JAW's appearance, he's a pretty attractive dude, I'm looking more at the personality traits here.
The Disney version of him is way more unhinged and animal-like, which I'm not sure perfectly fits Carmy, but I feel like the insecurity, anger and depression is pretty accurate.
I don't think the "beast" element is entirely irrelevant, however. Let's think about what the namesake of the show is: The Bear. In reference, or course, to the main family having the last name Berzatto. They do also refer to each other as "Bear."
It's Cousin Michelle who makes the connection between the Berzattos and literal bears:
Tumblr media
When she mentions this quote someone had said to her.
Stevie likens the Berzattos to bears later on in this episode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's pretty clear that the Berzattos = bears. Aggressive, but also kind and emphatic.
I also want to talk about the very first scene of The Bear:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carmy is letting the bear out of it's cage, walking slowly towards it. He says "I know" to the bear, trying to calm it, or maybe trying to empathize with it. The bear growls and attacks him, and he wakes up from the nightmare.
It's clear that the caged bear represents something in Carmy. His rage, his stress, his grief. And he can't control it, it escapes and it consumes him.
Backstory of The Beast, extremely paraphrased:
Disney version: A prince is spoiled, cold-hearted and extremely selfish. He's transformed into a hideous beast as punishment, and told he won't transform back unless he earns the love a beautiful young woman.
Fairytale version: The prince's father died before he was born, and his bio mother leaves him in the care of an evil fairy godmother. Things get weird and incesty, this was the 1700s ig, the godmother tries to seduce the prince when he's an adult. He rejects her and she curses him to become a beast and says the curse won't be broken until he receives a maiden's act of true love. There's then a lot of really irrelevant fairy-lore and other stuff that I don't really want or need to get into.
I feel like evil mother figure one might be more accurate? Especially because Donna's one of the people who gave him so much trauma that he still carries with him? Generational trauma and addiction is "a curse" in a way.
Chapter 2: The Beauty
So it's very clearly Sydney.
Beauty in the OG fairytale doesn't have a super interesting personality outside of "pretty, caring and kind." so I think we'll look more at the Disney version here:
"While the studio wanted Beauty and the Beast to resemble an old-fashioned film, the writers envisioned Belle as "a woman that was ahead of her time"."
"...  the screenwriter conceived Belle as a headstrong feminist to avoid creating another "insipid" Disney princess."
"Beauty and the Beast's story department was predominantly male. Woolverton often argued with the more traditional story artists over Belle's role and personality, but continued to be supported by Katzenberg and lyricist Howard Ashman, the latter of whom also lobbied for "a thinker and a reader" who "wasn't a victim"."
So, Belle was basically a strong and independent woman for Disney at the time. I wanna hone in more on these character traits they mention specifically.
Sydney is very intelligent, even an overthinker at times. She literally shows up to, like, week 2 of work with a full book written on how the business can be improved.
Tumblr media
We know she's a reader. Not only from the coach K book, she also mentions lending Marcus books at some point.
I also think Sydney fits the "not a victim" criteria. Sydney is shown pretty consistently to stand up for herself and fight back in situations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Beauty's backstory:
In every version of The Beauty and The Beast, Beauty's a daughter to a widower (much like Sydney is.) Beauty has many siblings, most notably her evil older sisters. They are omitted from the Disney version, and Belle is an only child.
In the Disney version, Belle is well known for her beauty, but looked down upon for not conforming to more traditional feminine roles.
Being a headstrong woman of color in the very white and male dominated world of fine dining, I can see how she fits this.
Her father has doubts about her career as a chef, she has had bad experience with chefs in leadership positions before, and the crew of The Beef really looks down on her at the beginning of the series.
Chapter 3: Beauty and The Beast
So now let's talk about the actual relationship of the Beauty and The Beast.
Belle/Beauty is lured into The Beast's castle because her father is being held captive inside. And interestingly....
Tumblr media
Sydney references her father as the reason for why she applies for The Beef.
In the fairytale, The Beast is immediately smitten with Beauty and asks her to marry him every day. That would be a very obvious HR violation in The Bear, so I think it might be better to look at the Disney version of this story.
So in the Disney version, The Beast is more annoyed that Belle and her father showed up at all, but he does know she's a pretty woman and allows the release of her father so she will be his prisoner instead.
Their relationship is pretty bad at first, like you'd expect a captor and prisoner relationship to be, but he does allow her a nice lavish room. He orders her to have dinner with him, and she refuses to leave her room to protest against him.
Carmy and Sydney were friendly at first meeting, but after The Stock Incident, their cracks really start to show. It's when Sydney really stands her ground and argues back at him. This is not the end of the arguments and tension between them.
Belle and the Beast end up getting in a fight when Belle snoops around his room. He yells at her more loudly this time, and Belle flees the castle on horseback. She gets attacked by a pack of wolves and The Beast saves her. She takes him back to the castle and nurses his wounds.
This to me matches with the final fight Sydney and Carmy have in season 1. Carmy displays the worst of his anger, and it causes Sydney to want to wipe her hands with him completely. She grabs her stuff and leaves, telling him she's quitting.
She comes back when he apologizes to her, and they have a real bonding moment when they decide to open a restaurant together.
The Beast and Belle start to have a better relationship after The Beast heals. They become more friendly, The Beast more docile, and they're both really happy for the first time in the film. There's a scene where The Beast shows Belle the castle library and tells her it's hers.
I think the equivalent would be seeing Carmy and Sydney plan the menu together. In those scenes they seem less like co-workers and more like friends. You can also tell it's one of the few things they get actual real enjoyment doing.
I think the main parallel I see for this relationship is how Carmy and Sydney improve each other. Like with Belle and The Beast, you can actually see Carmy learn how to better handle conflict and communicate more efficiently when he's placed with Sydney.
He's more vulnerable. He apologizes more. He's able to better control his temper.
There's two very concrete examples of Sydney being able to help stabilize his emotions, actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sydney is quite literally "taming the beast" in Carmy. Cognitive behavioral therapy would also achieve that, but Carmy is too much of a workaholic to attend a session, so Sydney will have to do for now. They didn't have CBT in 1700s France, either, unfortunately.
I will also say that this isn't a 90 minute Disney movie, so the slow-burn will be slow-buring for awhile until we get to the actual conclusion of the fairytale.
Chapter 4: Gaston
so I have two characters in mind for this role: Richie and Marcus. But def more heavy on Richie than Marcus.
Gaston is a villain made exclusively for the Disney movie. Here's some description for him:
"In direct contrast to his adversary the Beast, Gaston is depicted as physically handsome with an unattractive personality, both physically and emotionally embodying hypermasculinity. "
"Gaston has been generally positively received by film critics, as his lack of "magic power or political influence" means that his villainy tends to resonate with audiences who often identify someone similar to him in real life, although critics regard him as a less memorable villain than some of the studio's previous efforts."
"The Huffington Post described early drafts of Gaston as "a weaselly, sort of wimpy character." In fact, Gaston was originally intended to resemble more of an annoying than antagonistic character,"
So I think Richie kind of fits the "hypermasculinity" thing, in terms of some of his mindset and sexist behaviors.
Richie, for at least the first season, really looks down on fine dining as a concept. He makes fun of Carmy and Syd for their background in it and makes snide comments about it whenever possible.
Gaston also looks down on Belle for liking books, and encourages her to live a more "simple" life with him instead.
Here's a really interesting parallel I found with these two:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Making fun of the main character's book and then throwing it away? In the intro of the story? Very interesting.....
As far as the similarity with Marcus: it begins and ends with Marcus and Gaston both having unrequited feelings for the main female protagonist.
Other than that, Richie is way more Gaston coded in the grand scheme of things. Just not as evil. I feel like he gives first-draft Gaston with being "More annoying than antagonistic."
Chapter 5: What about Claire?
I see Claire fitting into this as almost like a faux-Belle. The love interest that's supposed to "fix" the main protagonist, but something doesn't work.
Again, there's two scenes I wanna look at specifically to showcase this:
Tumblr media
This reaction shot of Carmy. This is the last shot of the sex scene, and there are some other previous shots of the sex scene overlaying this at times. But I've been wanting to do a deep dive into it for awhile-- why have this shot? What's the purpose of it?
I think that this shot clearly tells us that Carmy is either pensive and/or dissatisfied with what has happened. Laying with his eyes open and just staring at the wall, deep in thought, possibly regretful. This isn't the expression a man who's just had sex with a pretty woman usually has. This is one of many clues that this relationship isn't something that he really wants or enjoys.
Tumblr media
Aaaand, the panic attack scene again. If Claire was his "true love", she would be able to quell his anxiety and panic, if this whole "beauty and the beast" story arc I'm putting together is to be believed.
Claire is the perfect girl. She's pretty, smart, talented. His family loves her. She loves him. But she does nothing to fix his problems. Because it's not true love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carmy not being happy at the thought of Claire vs Carmy cracking a smile because he looks at containers of radichio + fennel, ingredients Sydney cooked him once.
It is ABUNDANTLY clear that his feelings for Syd help his mental state in ways his feelings for Claire do not. Because what he feels for Sydney is closer to true love.
Conclusion:
Am I saying Christopher Storer took the plot beats and characters 1 for 1 from Beauty and The Beast? No, obviously not. Am I saying that maybe he sat down one day and this movie was on and he was like "hey maybe i can do something with this"? Possibly!
This is just speculation at the end of the day, but I really loved looking at all the possible connections between these two things. Tell me your thoughts on all of this: cool interpretation or am I just talking out of my ass?

Things I need to see in Willow season 2 (were manifesting it bitches)
I need to see Jade get hurt protecting kit, And then a role reversal where kit has to be soft and take CARE of her (AUGH I’m such a slut for hurt/comfort)
I need kit struggling to figure out how to take off the cuirass, freak out, give up and then Jade figuring out how to close it immediately.
I need to meet Boorman’s mother. They mentioned it twice. It feels like foreshadowing
I’d like to see kit and Eloras friendship still be a little rocky but continue to develop. I don’t want them to so starkly go from hating each other to being besties.
I really wanna see more of the twins relationship because honestly I really didn’t buy Airks character in season 1. I completely forgot the quest was about saving him. So I think if they move away from a romance arc with Elora and instead develop kit and his relationship it’ll make him a much more compelling character to me.
I’d also like to see jade and Airk interact, because I feel like jade has been important enough to kits life that at this point he sees her as another sister. I also feel like their relationship is combative as hell and it’ll be so funny.
I’d kinda like to see kit come out to Airk or Sorsha or both. With Airk it would be a funny moment because he’d be like “yeah no shit. You and Jade are not subtle.” then with Sorsha I really need a moment where Sorsha finally sees kit for who she is and acknowledges it not in a hallucination.
Just the whole dark Graydon arch. I think it’s gonna be so good, but they need to save him because him and Elora are end game. I will be upset if Elora ends up with Airk. Also it sets up a possible redemption arc if they save him and I’m a slut for redemption arc’s.
I need to know if Mims is okay. Because I feel like their foreshadowing a burning of the shire situation but That might be too dark for Disney. it could have also been willows doubt and the crone trying to make him afraid. I do think the burning of the shire is more narratively significant tho.
I need to know what the fuck is up with Grayson’s dad because he’s shady
It would defo be cool to see madmartigan, but I look forward to it specifically for kits reaction. It’s gonna be a gut punch in the best way possible.
BABY JADE FLASHBACK!! I cannot stop thinking about her little red curls 🥺. And maybe more baby kit and Airk on the side.
Moral of the story is I need a season 2. Please Disney. PLEASE!! 🙏

Reading the British Vogue article.
I find the space between these two paragraphs interesting. Like, what happened in the narrative there?
Keen to allay her worrying shyness, Zendaya’s parents, both teachers, soon had her in acting classes, learning scenes from As You Like It and Richard III. (She also joined a hip-hop dance group, Future Shock Oakland, the very cute proof of which is still on YouTube.) Regional productions of Caroline, or Change and Once on This Island followed.
By the time she moved with her dad, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, to Los Angeles for the Disney job, Zendaya knew what character, drama and costume could do.
Especially in light of this quotation many paragraphs down, from the Serena interview—
“I felt like I was thrust into a very adult position: I was becoming the breadwinner of my family very early, and there was a lot of role-reversal happening, and just kind of becoming grown, really.”

Why You Shouldn't Watch Loki S2
With Season 2 of that show making its debut tomorrow, I thought I would make one last ditch effort to convince people not to watch it. It's not just because it's a horrible show that makes a mockery of my favorite Marvel character. There are a lot of problematic elements that contribute to the long list of reasons why people should not give Disney their money or ratings.
I am imploring people, one last time: If you must hate-watch the season, pirate it. If you must watch with some lingering hope that the real Loki will somehow make an appearance (and based on the reviews I have seen, that seems very unlikely), pirate it. Please don't contribute to Disney's ratings. Disney isn't going to care if you're hate watching or if you are only watching it hoping to get a glimpse of the Trickster we all know and love. They only care about numbers, and high ratings might mean we'll get stuck with another season of this utter dreck.
That said, here are some reasons why you should rethink giving this show your views:
It glorifies abuse and torture
In this show we are treated to the sight of Mobius using torture as "therapy", emotionally beating Loki down to the point where he capitulates to the TVA's demands, punishing him for having a crush on someone else by sticking him in a room for hours (at least) with an illusionary Sif who kicks him in the balls and punches him on repeat while further hammering the whole "you'll always be alone, you don't deserve good things" message, and generally working for an organization that subjects Loki to mockery, bullying, sexual assault (being stripped without his consent--that scene wasn't hot. It wasn't sexy. It was horrifying and I really, really have to wonder about the mental state of anyone who is at all turned on by it. Think about it, if Loki were a woman who was being forcibly stripped, there would have been loads of hatemail filling up Disney's servers), and slavery.
That's even before we get into the atrocious way Sylvie treats him. I've gone into how she treats him many, many times, how she belittles, invalidates, silences, and oh yes tries to kill him for daring to ask her to reconsider killing HWR. If the roles were reversed and Loki treated Sylvie like that? You ladies who love the ship so much would be boycotting Disney. It's no less abuse just because it's a woman doing it to a man.
It glorifies fascism
The TVA is very much Nazi coded yet they are framed as heroes...well, except when they're picking on Sylvie of course, since she's all pure and good and can do no wrong (Mary Sue powers activate!) They torture a character who is very much Jewish coded, an effeminate man who is very much the Other in the home he grew up in.
And what the hell is this?
Tumblr media
As a Jew, I find this image deeply, deeply disturbing. It's a fucking gas chamber, y'all. It. Is. A . Gas. Chamber.
I don't know how anyone can NOT see how problematic it is.
It has Jonathan Majors in it
I really don't give a flipping shit if they're "only" allegations or if they wrapped up filming before the allegations came out. People boycotted Flash for Ezra Miller doing basically the same thing, so I don't see why it should be any different with Majors.
But then I know from experience that some of you so-called feminists out there are only about protecting or believing women when it suits you. Can't have a little thing like not supporting a domestic abuser get in the way of your wish fulfillment self-insert fantasies of beating the crap out of Loki before fucking him.
The first season was written by a total creep, and that same creep is producing the second season
Tumblr media
'Nuff said.
Selfcest/Incest
I don't want to hear how "selfcest doesn't exist", especially in a fictional universe where you have sorcerers, witches, men with super soldier serum running in their veins, magic plants that turn individuals into superstrong Cat People, and talking raccoons.
And even without the selfcest, that ship is a very problematic one, as I stated above, and have continued to talk about at length.
It's just plain awful
The plot is predictable, full of holes, and not even that original (it's cribbed directly from a script Waldron wrote that was so awful, even SyFy wouldn't produce it, plus see my post with the clip from Batman Returns). Loki is grossly OOC in it...seriously, there is not a single hint of the character I had grown to love from Thor 1, Avengers, and the Dark World. He's nerfed all to hell (an Asgardian god who can take on Thor easily is beaten up by human rednecks?), and he's lost all his cunning, wit, intelligence, and grace all in favor of turning him into a sophomoric slapstick clown and the butt of everyone's jokes. The newer characters are poorly mapped out and one dimensional.
It's just...bad.
So there, that's my last ditch attempt to convince people to boycott this piece of shit. I realize my pleas might be falling on deaf ears, much as Loki's pleas fell on Sylvie's, but I had to get it out there.
Other Loki show antis can add to this or elaborate if they want. I'm too tired to be too coherent right now.
