Daly went out of the race in his Tyrrell in a more spectacular fashion than he had done at Monaco earlier in the season. As he braked for the Tarzan corner to start lap 61 the left front brake disc shattered and tore one of the calipers from its mounting; the errant caliper flew out radially and punched a hole in the alloy wheel rim and went into the tyre. With no front brakes and a flat tyre the Tyrrell ploughed off across the sand, the wheel and hub assembly broke off, the left front corner dug into the sand and the car spun upwards to an incredible height and crashed down on top of the tyre barrier, fortunately the right way up. A rather shaken Irishman was helped out, with a slight cut on his leg and lots of bruises, justifiably wondering what had happened.
QUINNAN: Oh, sensational, she was, Tone. Even June said so.
ACKLAND: I did not. I said it was better than you two taking your clothes off at the nick party.
Ray Ashcroft in his second pre-Geoff Daly guest appearance as a burglar whose small children are taking after dad. The other, more amusing, plot is the station Christmas party, with Tony organizing a lap dance for Cato and Reg caring more about the Indian turkey dinner he’s ordered.
«Cover Photograph taken on the outskirts of Coalisland, Co. Tyrone, 17 February 1980. It shows one of the earliest marches organized by the National H-Block/Armagh Committee and features many of the anti-criminalization campaign's key activists. Soon after this march, John Turnley (second row, second left) and Miriam Daly (first row, first left) were assassinated. In January 1981 Bernadette McAliskey (first row, second right) survived an assassination attempt. Two months later, Frank Maguire MP (second row, first right) died, leading to the election of Bobby Sands. In May 1981, Fergus O'Hara (first row, third right) was elected to Belfast City Council on an anti-H Block ticket. Photograph reproduced by permission of Derek Speirs.»
