Do you headcanon that Pavel and Hikaru raised Demora on the Enterprise? If not, how do you have that working out?

In my own personal universe I want Demora to exist and be a thing but I am really struggling to figure put the logistics haha

I absolutely headcanon that they raised her on the Enterprise. My preferred way for it to work is that they married late in the first 5-year mission and had Demora via-surrogate between missions. Then after that they usually have her on ship with them. I haven't really figured out how things work with the movies. She's definitely on Earth during Search For Spock through The Final Frontier. But where and doing what I don't know.

Chapter 2 of my Chulu fic. It's the one where they raise Demora together and fall in love along the way.

Summary:

Everyone needs space sometimes.

Preview of the story:

Chekov holds his tongue. Asking, ‘how do babies exercise’ had only earned him a laugh the first time. Personally, he thought the joke could run a little longer, but Sulu had lost his humor to the exhaustion. Instead he asks, “What’s the plan for today?”

With a slow sweep of his hanging head, Sulu silently answers. Black bangs catch in the light as they hang down, nearly brushing the tip of Demora’s bottle. He needs a haircut. Sulu always kept his bangs swept neatly to the side, and his hair short. Gently divided around his ears. Now the shaggy strands were falling over his ears, having grown beyond them. When was the last time he enjoyed a long sonic shower? Chekov hasn’t gone out since coming over two days ago. How often has Sulu been able to leave and take a walk around the city? Probably just for groceries, if he hasn’t just been getting them delivered.

“You should leave.”

Sulu raises his head with an amount of speed Chekov hasn’t seen him use since their last mission with Captain Kirk. A look of well-contained ire sends a shiver down Chekov’s spine. The younger man tries to swallow. The spit barely pushes past the lump in his throat. Chekov raises his right hand and circles it around his head. “You need a haircut.”

A silent, oh, forms on Sulu’s dry lips. What he truly needs is a break. Chekov yawns and leans back against the couch arm he’d been sleeping on earlier. That was the one thing Chekov hasn’t really been able to help provide despite all his assistance. “And I need rest.”

Fucked myself up thinking about the fact that during the events of most of the movies Sulu and Chekov both just. Have kids back home.

Do you think they bonded over that? Talked about how much more terrifying everything is now, because dying isn’t just dying anymore, it’s your kid losing a dad? About how much more important their work feels too, to make sure their world is safe and worthwhile for their kids to grow up in?

Do you think, in near-death moments, they thought about their children? Hoped Demora and Anton could forgive them if they never made it home?

Do you think Demora and Anton were friends? Do you think they went to school and proudly told everyone that their daddies work in space? Do you think they got to talk to their dads on subspace like some kind of FaceTime call?

I like to think so.

Ok I just thought of this but I'm low-key loving it: what if Demora Sulu was Hikura's daughter? I feel like them raising a kid together on the Enterprise has tons of opportunity for being SUPER wholesome.

Honestly TOS Sulu and Uhura both feel too career driven to have kids to me. I mean I can’t explain it but I feel like TOS Sulu doesn’t have any interest in having kids. More like, wanting to be a really cool/good uncle, but having the option to be like “okay bye kids see you in like six months you’re your parents problem now byyyyyyye”. I mean, even when Uhotty becomes a thing, he and Nyota don’t decide to have kids.

Just feel like one of those couples that is not only too busy, but not really feeling the emotional or relationship need to have kids. Doesn’t seem like a step for them, unless they accidentally adopt like, an older kid or teenager through sheer exposure lol. Kinda like how Stamets and Culber unintentionally adopted Gray and Adira even though they weren’t really planning on kids.
