“food delivery drivers are so rude to restaurant employees!”
are they tho?
are they actually rude or are they just neurodivergent working one of the only jobs that doesn’t actively punish them for their support needs?
are they actually rude or are they just showing you the screen with all the information you need to know instead of going back and forth trying to give you that information verbally, only for you to mishear the name for the order and ask them to show you the screen anyway?
are they actually rude or do they just not know the specific protocol for picking up an order at your specific restaurant because they vary so wildly from restaurant to restaurant?
are they actually rude or are you making them the press the button that confirms that they have the order in hand before they actually have the order in hand or have even seen the order?
are they actually rude or are they reasonably upset that you just made their pay go below minimum wage by making them wait 20 minutes for you to take 5 seconds to hand them an order they can clearly see with their own eyes is already ready?
are they actually more rude to restaurant employees than restaurant employees are to them? because in my experience restaurant employees often treat us with extreme suspicion, act like we’re beneath them, and often make decisions that we are on the line for

This bullshit of people screwing with people’s delivery food orders because they don’t tip or don’t tip “well enough” is so extremely fucked up. What is wrong with people.
Look, I think we all understand being made about not being paid well - but you are getting mad at the wrong people. You are taking your frustration out on the wrong people. You should be trying to get the delivery company you are working for to pay you better, not screw over people just trying to order some dinner!
I have never gotten delivery much, because of extreme paranoia about things like this, and now people are really actually doing it. And in the times I have gotten delivery, I know my tipping has varied greatly. Anywhere from $0 to $15, depending on what I can afford! Not trying to be rude to people, but because delivery was literally the only way I was going to be able to eat that night and unfortunately all I could afford was the food itself. And I know I’m not the only one like that! I know some people are just being cheap assholes, but some are just poor and trying to feed themselves in anyway they can.
Also, I know my opinion on tipping has been changed since learning that it’s really just more American bullshit to put the pressure on the people instead of the company that should just be paying their employees well enough. But like, do more people need to learn this? Do people really not get that they are hurting and acting out at the wrong people? I just don’t get it. People (Americans) are really horrible sometimes.

For once a UPS driver came to the house instead of dumping a package at the end of the driveway, but..
Did they set it on the back porch where the door was blocked open? No!
Did they set it at the top of the ramp in front of the door? No!
Did they set it anywhere along the ramp? No!
Did they throw it on the very muddy ground next to the ramp a couple feet away where I had to climb under the railing to go fetch it?
YES!
We used to have such lovely UPS drivers. Friendly. Wanting to make sure packages were safe. Would put them either on the car or on the porch. Now they throw them on the ground. I have literally seen them throw them, just usually not off in the muck. Even when you need to sign for something they won’t usually come to the house, just slap a sticker on the side mirror of the car or something. And they sure don’t seem happy if you walk up during their “delivering”.
It’s a good thing I can so rarely afford to order anything, but a bad thing that what I end up having to order matters so much. Having packages mangled in shipping is one thing, but it’s so much worse to have it wrecked because the driver left it on the hood of a car in the rain while you waited all day for them to show up! (Actual incident) It’s Russian roulette any time I see UPS has a delivery!

The Invisible Hand of Commerce: How Logistics Gets You What You Need
Tumblr media
Have you ever taken time to consider how that box of cereal ended up in your home? That is a world of logistics that entails trailers, lorries, ships and meticulous planning. Although the term logistics may seem like a complicated thing, it all narrows down to the efficient transportation of goods from their point of manufacture to where they are demanded.
This factor is what facilitates commerce since it ensures that fresh produce arrives in every corner. It makes possible for you to reach everything you want to buy.
The Logistics Chain Reaction
Imagine you order a new pair of shoes online. Behind the scenes, a complex chain reaction kicks off. First, the warehouse receives your order and locates your shoes. Advanced robots or conveyor belts whiz them to a packing station, where they're carefully packaged to survive the journey.
Next, clever algorithms determine the most efficient way to get your shoes to you. This might involve a truck for land travel or a plane for longer distances. Throughout the journey, GPS technology tracks your package, keeping you informed of its progress.
Thinking Globally, Acting Locally
For international shipments, things get even more interesting. Your shoes might need to clear customs, a digital process that ensures they comply with regulations. International logistics is a giant game of Tetris, with cargo ships meticulously loaded to maximize space and optimize travel.
Finally, your shoes reach a local distribution center, where they're sorted and loaded onto smaller delivery trucks. This "last mile" delivery might be done by a friendly neighborhood driver in a familiar van or even a drone in remote areas.
The Future of Faster (and Greener) Deliveries
The world of logistics is constantly innovating. Self-driving trucks and automated warehouses are streamlining processes, while drone delivery is taking off (literally!) in some areas. This focus on efficiency translates to faster deliveries for you.
But logistics isn't just about speed. Sustainability is becoming a major focus. Companies are using electric vehicles and optimizing routes to reduce their carbon footprint. So, next time you hit that "order" button, take a moment to appreciate the incredible logistics journey your purchase takes. It's a testament to human ingenuity and a reminder that getting what you need, whenever you need it, is a truly global effort.
